Theory time again!

I already posted about my main idea of him disturbing timelines constantly, in the teaser given we already know he’s done this MULTIPLE TIMES so let’s go through the recent peeks while I wait!

Now from the beginning we’re already shown the merry has exceptional amounts of power(or ig mental mind power to even comprehend where he is ) even without the help of summer land powers as mention of him (I’m assuming) going beyond the veil a separation from the mortal world he’s meant to be in , and has mention of him keeping a watch on the barrier or the aforementioned veil that keeps the world apart and just silently waiting for its state to fully weaken ( and I have a feeling lumi’s lore plays a special role to it including her powers ) and with this it probably loops us back to the third lore of him just wreaking the barrier completely ( because why shouldn’t my dreams of mpreg come true I digress) and within all of this he’s still treated as a background character or more so just the narrator , some one you’d least expect to switch up the story and perhaps it is all a story to him , and this could be confirmed with the existence of Nick alone , his mere form being disillusioned to fit merrys story , a story I think isn’t as dark as it seems .

Why?

Well I don’t think he’s outright trying to harm them as shown through Nicks quote in the trailer “ We’ve been through every cycle with him because he chose us” ‘Merrys been picking this squad since dinosaur walked among men probably’ which is to say he has planned all of this however something always goes wrong to really mess with this ultimate motive and is probably the pushing point to why he wants fiction and reality to become one because let’s be real I doubt this is for “ humanities” sake if he just up and left the mortal realm that easily and to do it 9844 times I doubt this is just a bad streak day, so I think this is even beyond the time loops we’ve been shown as lumi even mentions further on “ even if they were friends once can’t they be friends again” leads me to belive something devastating happened to this cast and this could be him mixing reality as a last effort hope of saving his friends for their eventual doom because in reality even hero’s fall and how could a narrator kill the thing he loves the most ? This is probably just his last efforts to really make things right however, in the teaser like a butterfly effect because he’s so close and so far into believing that this is the loop that changes everything does infact change something, he speaks , well ofc he can speak but this time he’s speaking to the main cast he’s broken his previous method of staying in the shadows and perhaps this may the change that he doesn’t want but may need…

But that’s just a theory a lore theory

as someone who's an azul kinnie im curious why you placed azul on the slightly dislike list considering you like scheming characters

I think the easiest way to explain it is that I came in with the wrong expectations of him? I thought Azul would be similar to what Jade’s character actually was, so Jade ended up upstaging him in that regard. Essentially, not all scheming characters are equivalent; Azul has other traits which weigh him down for me.

I’ve mentioned this before, but I’ll reiterate it here because I feel it is very relevant for Azul. I… tend to not like “main” guys because of of how much they appear everywhere (including merch and marketing); it makes me feel like I’m being “pushed” to like them specifically rather than being allowed to think for myself about who I like. This is the case for dorm leaders, which includes Azul. Additionally, “main” guys tend to get more of a story focus (also true of the dorm leaders), and that in of itself can be a double edged sword. It means more information + backstory about that character, and while that’s great for lore and fleshing them out, it also means potentially polarizing the fans who were content with their perception of the character prior to the reveal. Once that change happens, it completely shifts how you see the character and then you can’t go back to how you felt before. This was a painful factor in what I call the “stock market crash” of my opinion of Azul Ashengrotto.

I actually quite liked him at first. I took his hand at the start when I first started playing TWST back in 2020 ^^! I even *gasp* simped a little??? (weird AU where Azul was my oshi instead of J word…) He was every bit an intelligent and calculating deal maker as I suspected he would be—well, at least that’s what the few vignettes available at the time and book 2 implied. Back then, only books 1 and 2 were available in full and book 3 was slooowly being updated in chunks. And really, I was liking book 3 a lot (he was still being a silly little scumbag, lol) and took no issue with it… UNTIL THE LAST PART DROPPED 💀 AND WE GOT HIS BACKSTORY…

Now 💦 I’m aware that the OB boys’ backstories usually garner sympathy and enhance the preexisting love we have for those characters but… Azul’s backstory actually had a very strong opposite effect on me. It was the moment I realized, “Hey, maybe I don’t like you as much as I thought I did.” I’d describe the feeling like having a pleasant dream and then you’re suddenly violently awoken by a loud alarm clock, a screeching parrot, and Sebek shouting in your ears at once.

I want to be clear when I say I do not mean to demean or to diminish Azul’s experiences of being bullied. I also do not mean to shame Azul for being (rightfully) upset about his circumstances or for being emotional. When I say that I started disliking Azul because of this backstory, it’s for a very personal reason: I just don’t like stories where a victim of bullying becomes a bully, thus perpetuating the cycle. It’s sad to see someone go down that path, spreading more hate because of the hate they had received before… and I’ll never believe that revenge is a good response for an injustice 😔 Azul’s case is a little different, as he does eventually go on to recognize how far he has strayed from the benevolent ideals of the Sea Witch and is now actively trying to work on himself (which I appreciate and applaud him for). However, it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth that I can’t quite scrub away. I think it’s because I found myself relating to kid!Azul in some ways, so that personal connection amplified the disappointment I felt in the decisions he made. It feels like looking into an alternate reality where I, too, went down a dark path—and that thought is unpleasant, to say the very least. Now I view Azul more like a cautionary tale and keep a safe distance from him.

Haha for real, I think this is only event that I don’t want to conclude just yet I’m having so much fun watching it. No hate to the other events/Halloween events, I had fun for those too but like I wanted to see how it would conclude and was content when it did. But I don’t want this event to end yet, I fear for that inevitable “The End”

Yeaaahhh 😭 I think about the few events that I didn’t want to end. Beans Day 1 was the first event that made me feel that way, but that was also because it was the first event, and it was full of Octavinelle content ❤️ so I super enjoyed it. But the brief grief only came in at the end.

The other event that I was sad at seeing it end was Glorious Masquerade 🥲 but that was because Azul SSR content aside, that was genuinely one of the most compelling stories Twst’s events could have. I loved the writing for Rollo, I loved the way the stakes were raised high, I love how the characters stayed behind to let everyone else pass through. But at the same time, I don’t recall dreading the ending. I really wanted to see how it would wrap up (and by God I was so happy to see it. Because Azul’s UM chant was revealed to us the first time and the rhythmic had him, Idia, and Malleus singing honestly what a night)

But this is so different 🥲 I’m actually grieving about an end to a Twst event before it arrives, and the feelings are so deep, it actually kind of hurts. It’s probably because I’m accepting that Skully’s really going to be from a different time period, we’re going to comfort him, we’re going to give him the confidence he really needs in his beliefs, we’ll see the merit in some of his ideas and incorporate them into the celebrations, and we’re going to go back, with no memory of what happened. 🥲 And canonically, we won’t see him again. Maybe. Unless Twst pulls smth-

It’s so funny because I should be at the acceptance stage already, but I’m not. Hshsjssjjsjsjd fuck you Disney actually, I could have stanned Rollo or Fellow for Halloween boys, but I just have to stan the Halloween boy with the most complicated lore and backstory 😭😭😭

It’s ok, after this event, I’ll be back in business with my public Azul simping. There will be new SSRs of Azul that I will cry over like a wet sopping cat 😈😈😈 Azul is still my main oshi after all, I at least stan a popular NRC boy 🫶🫶🫶

Well, I feel like I've officially reached this stage in my feelings towards Magia Exedra:

It's not the game's fault, really. If anything, it's the opposite--it's not the game, it's the player. Lately, I see the trailers for the new game and go "that's cool," but in a sort of empty way that goes away after a half hour or so.

I have a confession to make, actually. I'm still on the fence about downloading Magia Exedra, about making that metaphorical contract again in this particular time loop. Let's talk about it.

For a bit of context, MagiReco was not my first gacha game rodeo. That honor belonged to Love Live, which I played pretty much until it died. LLSIF (as it's often abbreviated to) is a game I have extremely complicated feelings about. On the one hand, it's probably the one game I really consider myself to be any good at, the sort of game a streamer would point to and say "that's what people are gonna watch me for." On the other, it kinda fucked up my social life. I can't count all the times I turned down invites in college to tier events.

Tier culture isn't really something MagiReco had (thankfully), but it's basically this idea that if you grind an event enough and make it to the top 5000 in the server during that event, you get a fully buffed version of a special character as a reward, and if you didn't tier quite that much, you get the non-buffed version. From my experience, the unique combination of tier culture and stan culture that Love Live had was extremely toxic. Tiering in an event was a sign of love for your oshi, and if you didn't tier in her event, how big of a fan are you really? Add in the fact that tiering can take hours every day of work for over a week, and yeah, it takes its toll.

I can't remember exactly who said this, but I remember watching a video about Genshin where the person said "if you aren't paying with money in a gacha, you're paying with time." This is why I was extremely hesitant to play MagiReco at first, because LLSIF had eaten up both for me and I didn't want to fall into that loop again. So I compromised with myself to go F2P and give it a shot, and ended up loving it. There was a part of it that felt so free to me, to just be able to play a fun game without all the pressure (as long as I stayed away from Mirrors). The lore was amazing. Everything seemed perfect.

And then, somewhere down the line, I could feel it happening again. Playing MagiReco during the pandemic was one thing, when time wasn't as big of an issue, but I found myself going back to the event grind again, wanting to complete it before my mutuals. Thinking about it at work. Stressing about not having the new unit for my fave yet. This wasn't necessarily the game's fault. It was me.

Gacha games combine two of my biggest weaknesses: my love of collecting and my desire to be part of an "in-group." Like Shizuku, I wanted to belong somewhere, and felt that I had to prove how big a fan I was of something to get that feeling in fandom.

I thought I'd miss MagiReco a lot more over these past few months, but you know what really sealed the deal for me? Thinking that there's a reality out there somewhere where I didn't achieve any of the great things I managed to do this last month because I would've been too busy grinding for more Vampnagi and Darknagi slots. Because having all three Kanagis two-slotted isn't enough, right? You see all those other Kanagi stans with fully slotted Mirrors teams, right? It can't be that hard, right?

If you aren't paying with money, you're paying with time.

I can't say the post-MagiReco months have been perfect for me, but somewhere down the line, I just started feeling pressure towards the game, as if it was something I needed to be "good enough" at. And when that was gone, I realized I had a pretty good thing going without it. I explored other games, worked on my writing, started customizing another doll. Talked with my mutuals and realized they saw me as more than just a MagiReco creator.

Decided that maybe...I wanted to be more than that.

I love MagiReco for the lore, the community, the people it's brought to me. But I also recognize that it brought me back into old habits. I believe that there are people who are able to play gacha games casually without feeling this sort of pressure, but I don't think I'm one of them. Maybe it's the ADHD, maybe it's something else.

Maybe Exedra will be different. Maybe I'll have learned enough about myself to avoid my past mistakes this time. But, knowing that the game will likely come out right when I turn 30 makes me realize...do I want to pay with time again? Or would it be better if I sit back on the sidelines, read the lore, and talk about it on here without ever downloading the game.

To be honest, I still don't know the answer. I don't even know why I'm writing this. I guess I just wanted you all to know why I've been inactive lately. I still love MagiReco, and the whole PMMM franchise, but I'm not sure if I'm ready for the next step. And I think you all deserve to know that.

I'll keep this blog as a PMMM general blog regardless, and let you know what I end up doing. But no matter what, thank you for standing by me.

Hi so sorry if this is strange but I’ve been rping on tumblr for years and I’ve been in indie for awhile but I’m just dipping my toes into anime rp, and I just wanna know if you could offer some insight on what’s acceptable? If I can’t draw (but wanna rp as ocs) is using like, the AI generator (bing character creation for example) for concept art/ocs acceptable in the community? Or using other anime fc from different shows/mangas as an oc in a different series? Maybe not using icons but creating a Pinterest board with concept art as inspiration? I’m just trying to figure this thing out.

oh uhm, hello nonny. welcome to the anime side of tumblr rp. i must not have seen this bc i was at work, but should you ever see this i hope the following helps you.

well for one, using icons is totally up to you. there are many many anime rp blogs that dont use icons when they rp ( take my friends @koseigu & @avichor who have beautiful writing and imaginations that require no icons to express the character's emotions and such). i know back when things first began icons were such a huge thing but im glad people are more focused in the writing vs aesthetically pleasing icons (ignore mine im using here its a personal choice <3).

as for writing oc's in the anime rp space, i will let you know you may have a VERY difficult time getting interactions. personally, i love interacting with peoples ocs, always have and always will, but getting others in on your lore will be a shitton of work but very worth it when you find people who will love your oc just as much as you do. just please dont let getting few/little interactions bog you down or make you quit writing ever. for seeing ocs on my dash like @weepingmoonlight @maidmyth & @quietlyblooms on my dash and interacting with other and thriving is always a win for the RPC

now to address the questions you do have up there (sorry for the side tracking and long windedness), personally i dont really know if using ai art is a big thing? i dont think many people would like you using ai art but??? i dunno for a oc. i see why you would if you cant draw and getting commissions are costly these days. there are many resources available for icons if you ever want to use a characters likeness. generally people dont mind this, like say you have an oc and ai hoshino from oshi no ko is the perfect face claim, people tend to accept this more than ai art (i assume but do take with a grain of salt.) pinterest boards are a HUGE thing in the rpc! i highly encourage you to make and have one for everything regarding getting to know your oc.

i will say tho, i dont personally rp oc's myself as i tend to take canon characters and stuff so my advice might not be the best sounding, but i hope this helps and if any of my other moots has any advice they can add on to the replies to help out i encourage this and also please correct me if im wrong about anything! and once again welcome to the anime rpc nonnie <3

Made an oc for Akane because not many characters around Sora's age can fit the role. BTW kana is Jordana and Wildcat shipping( is that what Sora x Jordana is called?) might be cannon

so that lead is a dead end for her but she does deeply care for him

Satoru decides to help Sora and tries to understand Lloyd's mentality by mimicking him

Satoru tries to help Sora find Harumi but gets cut out by Sora cause she sees how detrimental this chase is to him and his mentality (Sora liked Satoru as himself too).

Satoru then sees that Sora is trying to cut everyone off and descend into darkness herself without hurting anyone.

So he now mimics Lloyd to try to convince Sora to get revenge

And about his and Jordana's rivalry

It starts as a basic fight for Sora ( which is more one-sided) but then they begin to admire each other (Jordana admires how Satoru is a quick study and is great with his power while Satoru admires how Jordana is smart and knows magic)

I might end this au with a threesome because I firmly believe in kana x Akane x aqua (even though aqua does not deserve any of them).

this year i've been doing a lot of stuff that i didn't mean to do, and not doing a lot of stuff that i did mean to do. i got involved with the kink scene, i deepened my familiarity with carbonated beverages, i ate a lot of fried chicken sandwiches, i started reading again, and i played a lot of gacha.

and speaking of gacha, the only one that stuck with me from the decent-sized crop that i sampled this year was mihoyo's zenless zone zero! what to say about it . . . it's a Real Game, for one. it manages to shed the unsheddable "rubbishy" feel that is almost universal to gacha. its premise is like if andy and leyley were normal and worked as shadowrun hackers in jet set radio tokyo, in a semi-apocalyptic world where the only people around are orphans, anthros, or both. there are also sentient automatons that have cool outfits, and chubby baby bunny robots, but unfortunately neither of them have rights. it's got a really cool soundtrack, a charming spiderversesque look, and characters i found surprisingly compelling.

new music! well, new to me at least. you know ben and jerry's cherry garcia (possibly the most prominent contemporary cherry-focused ice cream flavor)? well jerry garcia was a guy who had this band that old men loved called the grateful dead. and well, i don't really care for what i've heard of their records to be honest. but it must be said that they were a jam band, and the 16 minute terrapin station gives one a taste of what i assume was the sensory height of a real-life hippy's experience, and i can imagine listening to it for decades to come.

indeed, if one wants a meal in the proggy realm rather than a bite, it's best to look to the guys that do that stuff all the time across the pond. Morgan put me on to electric wizard and their impeccable self-titled album has been in heavy rotation since. jackie put me on to yes' album relayer, and the first track provides the rarefied pleasure of hearing the singer of the irrepressibly lighthearted and goofy jojo anime ED "roundabout" trill about bathing in the blood of one's enemies.

in more occasional listening i have to rep my oshi 星街彗星 (hoshimachi suisei). her consistently strong body of work ranges from saccharine, to heartfelt, to sort of diva-core. listen, it's increasingly popular to reference hatsune miku, and it's often done with a sort of surface-level appreciation of miku, riding off of the long history miku has in overseas otaku culture. i myself have participated in this. but step outside the bit with me here. miku is a synth, an instrument. miku has all the humanity of the DX7. in fact that's what her color scheme is based on (because yamaha made both miku and the DX7)! hoshimachi suisei . . . listen, maybe people aren't ready. but she really is a virtual pop star. she's iconic. she's got a sigma grindset. she has a favorite food and a sister and friends and it's not lore it's reality. she's not a prop owned by a company, but an autonomous performer! miku is a virtual girl. suisei has a virtual face, but she's a real woman with a real dream! won't you believe in it?

staying with japanese affairs for a moment, anime has been good too! gushing over magical girls, perfect show, hannibal for anime girls, delightful and heartfelt. i also watched the vexations of a shut-in vampire princess, which was frenetic, lightning fast and kind of stupid, but i eagerly await another season. both extremely lesbian.

looking ahead, i'm extremely excited for the release of the alters, a game whose demo caught me completely off-guard, and i'm also excited to try the early access release of marmoreal, a sort of isometric completely touhoucore game with so much charm and sincerity.

TONYAH OCS TIME

let's start with my sonas

why do i have two? well... first one, tuna, was made literally just when i jumped into splatoon fr(before that i just liked comics about squid sisters i saw on my tl haha). they reflect me a lot more: a depressed mentally unstable bitch with nothing to do but hang out with friends. in the version of splatoon universe where they exist, they and their bestie formed their own 'squidbeak splatoon' parody (neo new squidbeak splatoon as we call it) and ended up doing basically what agents do in splatoon - war crimes /hj (im not willing to describe the entirety of splatoon story for this post im sorry). they're basically an agent 3 replacement, i think i lean into being a leader in my friend groups a lot too. they also write music, just like me!

second one, neon, is a little different. it's like they just take aspects of me from a different kinds of episodes. they are meant to be new agent 3's replacement(so they're canonically just splatoon 3's protagonist) BUT they don't have a smallfry buddy, because their buddy is my favourite salmonid - flipper flopper. they reflect the nicer part of me, they're also selectively mute because at the time i struggled a lot more with speaking and it was way easier for me to say something with gestures than to actually open my mouth without having words stuck in my throat haha. they are also an inktoling, a genetical fusion of an inkling and an octoling because i think both fit me well!! and tbh i would assign my mom octoling and my dad inkling they have such hardcore coding it's insane.

oshizushi and iwashi were probably my first actually thought out splatoon ocs.

in splatoon world creativity is a very(an i mean very) big thing, self-expression too. and oshizushi is another music person. while iwashi is a chaotic designer with her own brand going. oshi is also from the domes, it's just. a fact.

kaigara and hitodeko! so, in my splatoon ocs' geography there's a new town - Kelpton. it's a beach city with very unstable weather, and because of this they have turf war stages adapted for any weather. because idk if you know that but inklings and octolings dissolve in water, they fucking DIE in water. those two are Kelpton's idols! and of course they also have to do weather forecast since it's such a big thing for Kelpton. kaigara comes from a poor family from this town and worked hard to get money, and hitodeko is a daughter of an octarian elite soldier, she enjoys life to its fullest after leaving the domes.

then there's team family!

they're a bunch of dumb teenagers who play turf war in team. they're meant to be more coroika(splatoon manga) inspired . purble and vintage are like toxic older siblings to bucket and stripes who are innocent babies of their team. music is big in splatoon. all of splatoon music has lore, we have so-called splatbands - every track has an in-game band behind it. and so i had to make my own splatband.

sepia is a cuttlefish, elysia is a sea slug (you've seen this one before.), shinobu is a sea anemone, gui is an incognito gobi and ori is a tiger crab i think. sepia is like their leader and a vocalist, she's the most unbearable person ever but they vibe with her.

sepia also lives wth namihiko, her ex boyfriend who's...an octoling who thinks he's an inkling. he doesn't have anything going in his life except for that little confusion except for the fact that he's very chill and can take sepia's anger issues and wild temper pretty well.

this is reena(she/he/they)! they're an insanely talented inkling who can play a lot of different instruments and they usually work for others. he helped kaigara and hitodeko in fact!

BRANDA. she doesn't have TOO MUCH lore going on, but she was a technician in octarian military, then she ended up in kamabo co and was one of the sanitizing octolings based on a concept from haikara walker(an octo expansion artbook), and then somehow ended up FUZZY OOZED. AND NOW SHE'S A FUZZY OCTOLING. BRO DOESN'T HAVE NO MEMORY BUT PURE VIBES AT THIS POINT. i love branda.

here's also DJ duali38 or duali! she exists purely in one au where on winter holidays sanitized octolings just suddenly can't obey tartar and CHILL and CELEBRATE. she became a DJ after ahato/acht left and she's just a small goober..

another oc who's kinda from au is arctic (octoling on the right)! she's neo agent 3's girlfriend who studies linguistics and has a dictionary with a lot of attempts to decipher human language(s). in this version of splatoon 3 they both are agents and work together and all. i can't not point out how there was a fun period where i did an experimental ask thing for another au of mine and someone mentioned arctic and i blew up i actually don't think i'll ever recover from how cool that was

polpopic never had too much lore but she's a pro salmonrunner who's also almost just as tall as her main weapon sloshing machine and the fact that she's that efficient with it despite her size is terrifying to everyone around

also kurakka exists. i never gave them lore but they're a sanitized octoling who looks like they could be a manager who doesn't give a fuck. i wish there was a way to write their lore that way. (they just don't fit splatoon lore. but i mean.)
