Merryweather Dawg: Sketch & Digital Coloring Practice

Character: Lucius Merryweather, Vtuber

Very much enjoyed sketching this furry version of Merry in a chibi kind of style. Although I haven't drawn chibi style much I love how the sketch turned out, especially the ears and paw feet! :)

After, I decided to transfer the sketch onto my tablet and give coloring a go. Not gonna lie, I did struggle. Coloring digitally took me a lot longer as I was trying to figure out how it works! lol :) The tones of the body turned out fine and is my favorite part of the coloring. However, I feel as though I was trying to over complicate the process when it came to the hair. Though I do like the strands of hair this could have been simplified to blend better with the coloring style of the body. Overall, coloring on my tablet was a good experience (despite the frustration moments!) that I want to learn more about.

As for the sketch, I plan to color him traditionally either with pencil or watercolor.

Ink dog headcannons

Just silly little headcannons about Lucius Mayweather's ink dogs

When the first ink dogs appears was after the first time loop

When they first appeared, merry was confused on what they were but quickly discovered that they were loyal to him.

He also discovered that they were very durable after accidentally stepping on one and panicking due to it just being a puddle of ink but it quickly regained it's doggo form

Ink dogs don't blink. Like ever they just stare 😶

Due to the ink dogs being well made of ink they leave little ink drops sometimes especially when it rains, merry had to replace a few nice shirts due to that

Older ink dogs can hold their shape better then the newer ink dogs, the main reason is due to the older being full of more magic then the new ones

During the fight between Fredrick and Merry some of the ink dogs became puddles of ink and others barked whined or looked for merry

Ink dogs sometimes change color. Why? Cuz magic that's why

All the ink dogs have names but due to there being so many, when Merry calls them he just yells dogs or dog army assemble

Only merry can understand the ink dogs. Sometimes the others can but mainly merry can

When the ink dogs get mad they get pointy

Back in September 2024 I done a sketch of Merryweather's furry form. From that sketch I transformed it into a digital piece by transferring the sketch onto my tablet. It's amazing to think that about two months ago was when I really started to learn how to color digitally, I feel like I've learn a lot since then and from that moment I've been taking more time with my digital art pieces. (Currently working on my own character - Roi the Ghost King.) But here is that very sketch from two months ago colored traditionally with pencils! :)

a while ago I managed to pick up 12 packs of the Astraline trading cards (equivalent to one box I think) and only recently got around to opening them

really impressed by the print and cardstock quality, and all of the art used is really good

sorted the cards by collector number

the collation on these didn't seem unusual aside from a couple of packs where every card was related to the same vtuber (got one like that for Lumi and one for Nick)

didn't quite get one of every card in the set, but the three foil stamp signed cards make up for that

really happy with these

it'd be neat if there could be a second print run of these or a second set that covers the new outfits and other changes that Astraline has gone through since this set was designed

the foil patterns on the rares and the gold stamps remind me of Cardfight!!Vanguard cards
