Merryweather Dawg: Sketch & Digital Coloring Practice

Character: Lucius Merryweather, Vtuber

Very much enjoyed sketching this furry version of Merry in a chibi kind of style. Although I haven't drawn chibi style much I love how the sketch turned out, especially the ears and paw feet! :)

After, I decided to transfer the sketch onto my tablet and give coloring a go. Not gonna lie, I did struggle. Coloring digitally took me a lot longer as I was trying to figure out how it works! lol :) The tones of the body turned out fine and is my favorite part of the coloring. However, I feel as though I was trying to over complicate the process when it came to the hair. Though I do like the strands of hair this could have been simplified to blend better with the coloring style of the body. Overall, coloring on my tablet was a good experience (despite the frustration moments!) that I want to learn more about.

As for the sketch, I plan to color him traditionally either with pencil or watercolor.

I'm not too happy with it, lack of motivation (thanks school), but I still want to continue this series.

I'll probably make some original stuff inbetween, so that I don't lose my enjoyment too fast, as a reminder that I don't have to do anything that I'm not motivated enough for.

Merryweather Dawg Fanart

Character: Lucius Merryweather, Vtuber.

Traditional pencil drawing & coloring of doggo version, Merryweather. Doesn't he look soooo cute? Woof woof! At first I was worried he'd look too much like a cat and less like a dog, I went for a schnauzer dog appearance cause I love those little beards they have and it all worked out in the end! :) However, I'm also drawing another piece which I've put on my digital tablet but because I'm not very experienced with making digital art yet it's taking me forever to color! LMAO

I don't mind coloring with pencil, I seem to be getting better with the tones between light and dark. The only thing that I find off puting about pencil coloring is the marks it tends to make on the paper. With more experience I hope to make the marks smoother when coloring, less rough and obvious.

Very happy with this piece! I'm starting to gain a better understanding of my art subject matter. It definitely appears I love drawing characters, animations inspire me. As I said before in my blog post: characters were the reason I picked up a pencil all those years ago when I was a kid. :)
