okay. OKAY.
The most logical thing for me to do would be to mash the Bodyguard AU together with.. Chosen Family.
LISTEN. LISTEN!!!
It makes so much freakin' sense in regards what I had planned for the AU and ultimately will probably never do so the following WILL contain SPOILERS FOR CHOSEN FAMILY:
• I planned for Splinter to have money reserves he still had access to from his former life as Lou Jitsu and he would have used that to buy a little house for Carol, April, the boys and himself
• They mostly grew up away from harm besides some incidents of Draxum and Big Mama showing up, with some events leading to them siding with Splinter (Draxum kidnaps Mikey at one point and grew a soft spot for the little guy etc.)
• Splinter was supposed to have a little working room with a sewing mashine where he would sew clothes for the kids but he would also sell them online with the name Sewer Rat
• In the AU Splinter never turns as small as he is in the show because his outside influences are a lot better (not living in the sewers + good mental stability with Carol's help)
• The kids still learn ninjutsu from Splinter, they still go on adventures together and save people left and right. The movie still takes place with some few differences
• Big Mama becomes president and lets yokai trickle into New York to mingle and enables them to have a world OUTSIDE the Hidden City, basically giving them the freedom that Draxum tried to get through force
• The boys become more and more famous. At that time Splinters brand "Sewer Rat" popped off and he's selling his clothes left and right.
• Mikey is an artist and model. Leo is an actor. Donnie is an inventor and tech specialist. I'm a little unsure what Raph would actually enjoy doing and I can see him being more in the background along with Donnie. April manages their PR
• Despite their powers Splinter deems it still necessary to get a bodyguard/multiple bodyguards for them (maybe after some incident? who knows, certainly not me at the moment)
AND THATS IT. I THINK. I PROBABLY HAVE MORE IDEAS BUT MAN, THIS IS ROTATING IN MY BRAIN RN.

I can’t believe we got an infodump on simple domains AGAIN over a Sukuna backstory.
More complaining under the cut.
Usually I am one to give Gege the benefit of the doubt and will read heavily into what little information we are given. But I can't defend this chapter themes or character wise.
Even if this turns out to be a fakeout, going in painstaking detail over a show-not-tell battle in a way that lacks characterization and heartfelt emotion sucks to read. Even if the new shadow style and simple domain debacle goes somewhere, having it the main focus after an extremely traumatic battle instead of characters processing their emotions sucks to read. Even if Gojo is alive and that's why they're this chipper, everyone ignoring his sacrifice and efforts along with Choso's sucks to read.
I'm happy Yuta and Higuruma are alive but why was their revival off-screened? Yuta was so defensive over Gojo and everyone treating him like an object just 8 chapters ago. What happened to that? Why is everyone treating this battle like it was no big deal? (Also why the fudge did Kusakabe tell Yuji, a 15 year old, to his face he should've been killed while disparaging Gojo for protecting the life of a child???)
After the Shibuya Incident, there was a whole segment dedicated to how this affected the average person. The Culling Games ended and there are still bloodthirsty freaks running around. What happened to them? Is Angel hunting them down and that's why Hana is missing? Infodumping on anything except the battle would've been better.
I doubt we'll get any more info on Sukuna, Kenjaku, and Tengen at this point. We'll be lucky if there's a funeral for even Geto's body. Shoko was absent this entire chapter which makes me thing she's still trying to save Gojo or she's preparing their bodies for a funeral.
Anyways. This is the worst JJK chapter for me hands down. My hopes for the final 2 are mostly dashed. Crunch and poor working conditions really do ruin art my goodness.

and for my most controversial take yet... i don't think Five/Lila was out of character either.
like... idk, Lila's always known that Five is an old man. he's physically a whole ass adult when they first get stuck in the subway, and even moreso when they spend years down there. they're trapped in Time Hell with no clear way home and only each other for real company.
they've always been sorta character foils or parallels to each other or whatever. they have very similar caustic senses of humor and strong senses of pragmatism and deep capacities for love that beget deep hurt that they hide under a veneer of cockiness.
in the circumstances they're in... i think Five sees Lila as a sort of Dolores, and Lila sees Five as a Diego-alike. and idk, they're both razor sharp and miserable and time-universe-displaced. i see the vision! i think it's compelling!
now is it weird that they're in-laws and in a romantic relationship? indubitably, more than Luther and Allison's love affair even. (somehow. to me.) but tua's fuckin weird, look what show you're watching, my guys.
