As children, twin brothers Jinn and Tchigri would always run away from home to embark on their so called 'expeditions' to ancient Turali ruins. Now in their adult years, they travel together as experienced archeologists, seeking to continue their mission over at distant shores. Years spent on the field using pickaxes and sledgehammers have served to help them develop new and refined techniques with their chosen tools, setting them apart from traditional miners who primarily hunt for ore. Whether it be ancient artifacts or hidden fossils, any remnants of the past are unearthed with utmost care and precision. It is not profit that drives the twins. Indeed, they merely possess an insatiable curiousity for all which came before them. To them, there's just something so very special about those who walked before not being all that different to those who now walk after. Every ruin tells them that same story; that people have always laughed, wept and bonded over the same things, then as they do now. Jinn and Tchigri hopes to compile all their findings into literature one day. Not for the sake of established scholars, but rather to introduce everyday people to the wonder of history and archeology, and thereby encouraging them to be curious about the world around them... and the stories that lie in wait, if you just know what to look for.

First attempt at writing for the so called 'background characters' (ie characters that aren't necessarily created to be fully fledged or detailed, but rather are just made for fun for me to play around with different designs and lore ideas without feeling like I have to commit wholly). I actually made their designs and gave them their names back in 2021 (and even drew them), but I just couldn't decide what their homeland should be and so they've kinda circled around aimlessly in my brain ever since then. Only now did it finally click when I realized how fitting Tural would be! Really helped them 'make sense' for me, which meant screenshot time!

I've talked before about how I've always felt disconnected from feminine culture and how it's made me insecure about my identification as a woman.

I'm reading some issues of Smile and it's hitting me even harder than I expected it to, which is saying a lot because I kinna expected it to be a devastating evisceration of my spirit purely in connection to my anachronistic displacement. I've always known there were aspects of late 90s, early 2000s teen girl culture I felt particularly drawn towards, like how I feel I "missed out" on being a fujoshi, but this is...I don't know how else to put it other than "hitting harder than expected."

I wish I could sound out exactly what I mean. These emotions feel clasically trans, in that I'm sure I've read a million times about people going through this same ordeal and that makes me somewhat happy to feel as strongly as ever that I am in fact right to label myself as a trans woman. Perhaps it was inextricable from my anachronistic displacement the whole time. Perhaps being trans and being temporally displaced are in fact the same thing viewed from different ends.

This is genuinely, soul-searingly painful, but also revelatory, this has a purpose.

🟨 VP SUMMARY : 2023

It's that time of the year again, can't believe we're already at the end of 2023! And for the occasion, I've decided to freshen up my VP template of last year :3 So many things happened, including the release of Phantom Liberty of course, and the final update (tm) signing the end of Cyberpunk 2077

I'm sad that it's officially over, tho I'm excited for everything already announced (live action, Orion...) and whatever else they have planned for us (new comics, novels? another anime? spin off games?? who knows)

One good thing with having the final state of a game tho is that we can go wild with mods without fearing any big change in the game's structure 😳👉👈

Idk where the differences comes from 'cause that's almost 150 words less than according to one of them, and 40~ according to another?

It's mostly just an odd of programming in my case but probably frustrating if someone were to try doing exact wordcount challenges, huh 🤔

writing is hard, yeah, but writing a new story after you've already written something you're proud of is a new genre of hard. you keep wanting to replicate the magic of your first story, and that's where you fall into a trap because nothing you do ever measures up to your expectations. the words feel stilted, the plot feels forced, and you feel drained with every sentence you churn out. you have to break free from the trap. and it is so damn hard to do so.

rereading Fairest bc I have my own copy now (yay $2.50 at a used bookstore!) and so far it's as lovely as I remember

but anyway I do like how Aza's "ugliness" is characterized by people actually treating her badly because of it. People talk about the stereotype of YA protagonists being like "oh poor me I'm so ugly" in an attempt to make them relatable but the narrative actually treats them like they are gorgeous and every character that isn't a villain finds them attractive.

Vs. here it's like. yeah her self perception is all tied up in cultural ideas of beauty and she's definitely not objective either, and a lot of what she thinks is inherent to her ugliness is all wrapped up her related social anxiety, etc.

but! It's very refreshing to see a book that deals so much with beauty standards actually commit to it! It's not like she's just vain and obsessed with looks! You can tell she wants to be beautiful because she wants to be treated like a person! The way it is just that blatant! Most people are rude to her or ignore her! And she makes it worse in her head and compounds the problem by letting her own insecurity draw attention to herself, but at the end of the day, she's right! People would treat her better if she looked different!

The details that we get about her appearance are not even "ugly" traits, either! Like we get the pale skin, black hair, red lips combo pulled directly from the traditional Snow White fairy tale, where those traits are supposed to be beautiful and desirable! But in this culture, apparently those traits are a part of her ugliness, which just perfectly highlights how the beauty standards are inherently arbitrary! And yet! They affect her life in real ways! It doesn't matter much how we, the reader, picture her; we believe that she is ugly because people treat her like she is!

Anyway I especially love how her insecurity regarding her size is portrayed. The combo of feeling small and meek and timid on the outside but being large and imposing on the outside. She feels like she takes up too much space. She doesn't want to wear anything at all attention grabbing. She doesn't know what to do with her limbs. Her biggest fear about demonstrating her magical singing trick is that she would have to show people how she moves her stomach (the horror!)

anyway everyone ever should read Fairest. I could write 12.5 dissertations on it. fantasy books for 12-year-old girls are the most serious fiction in the world actually
