unoriginal thought: it is actually really funny that probably the most well known gawain-centric story is sir gawain and the green knight. like it's an amazing bit of poetry, but that gawain is not the gawain you see literally anywhere else. your typical gawain probably wouldn't lose any sleep over going to the green chapel and he certainly wouldn't have any qualms about sleeping with a married woman.
