ooough guys...Quimby is SO good. 100% comfy with hands, I can even grab her in a pinch and she's not bothered by it because she knows she's gonna get millet afterwards as recompense. If there's someplace she wants to go but can't reach, she'll just stare at me expectantly until I offer my finger, and then she'll hop on to be taxi'd to her desired destination lmao
She's not a snuggly bird, and has a very independent streak. If she thinks she can solve a problem herself, she'll deliberately ignore my efforts to help--which I think is very cute haha. But she definitely appreciates having me around and will waddle on over to check in on me between her usual activities (once she's flighted again, I wonder if she'll actually fly to me as part of her check-up routine). When it's time to go back into her cage, she'll oblige me without any fuss. She's just--very good haha.
All I've wanted is a budgie that trusts me, and that's exactly what she is! Wilbur and Orville had been tolerant of my hand, and would approach me if I had millet to offer them, but never quite got beyond that phase (largely because I kept undoing my progress with them in order to move them to and from carriers for their frequent vet visits, since they both arrived to me as very sickly birds). And so they would not allow me to ferry them in and out of their cage the way Quimby does.
Unfortunately Orville is no longer with us, but Wilbur is. I wonder if he might grow brave enough to eventually approach me under Quimby's tutelage.
I also wonder how her behavior might change once she enters adolescence haha. I wholly expect there to be a few months where she'll want nothing to do with me for a while. Especially with her latently independent nature. It's fine if she does, I know she'll come back around with patience haha
