When people say Jason is boring but that’s the thing, he was so forced into a position of leadership since he was a good fighter/son of Jupiter, he never got time to become his own person. He was just the fighter, then praetor, and I mean he’s not fully personality-less. But he was molded into the perfect leader from such a young age he never got time to figure out what he liked, or do silly teen stuff. He and Percy are/were both the male beacons of their respective camps, but Percy is more beloved for his personality as well as leadership and skills. From what I can tell, Jason was just a leader at camp Jupiter, not as much of a friend as Percy was. He was replaceable to them, but camp half blood didn’t see Percy as that.

i have ALWAYS promptly looked forward to jason grace's povs in the hoo books to the point where'd I'd flip the pages till I find the words "JASON" and would count the amount of povs he has in the whole book before I even finished reading, so I feel excited knowing that I'll get to his povs soon. there, I said it.

Sorry but Piper’s parallels to Helen of Troy (/Sparta - using the book for her ref rn) should’ve been played up WAY more. Like sure, she has her knife and charmspeak and that’s nice, but like?????

The sheer amount of stuff Rick could’ve gotten out of that parallel too if he made her a lesbian UGHHHH. Make her the most beautiful child of Aphrodite that’s ever been seen in Camp Half Blood. Make her get people to question their eyes when they see her, get people feeling UNCOMFORTABLE with how gorgeous she is. Parallel her relationship with Jason being forced to Helen and Paris being placed under a spell by Aphrodite, make that part of their relationship RELEVANT TO THE PLOT. Make her a lesbian on purpose and actually write some good conflict!!!!!!!!! The pieces were all there and he refused to put them together!!!

And like if he hadn’t fucked up her writing so bad in canon I wouldn’t be so upset but like GODDDD

the rage I feel when reading Blood of Olympus chapters 45-56 is almost equivalent in magnitude to the absolute joy I experience when reading The Last Olympian chapters 1-23.

remember when percabeth was good? when they meant the world to each other but had other people they cared about (nico, for one. both of them. so much), other worries and other storylines aside from their romantic plot? and when nico's completed arc wasn't repeated for no reason other than to dump more trauma on the youngest character in the series? when background characters were included in the story not for all the unnecessary last minute romantic subplots but because they were fun and fascinating to learn more about? and were actually friends with main characters? remember when grover was percy and annabeth's best friend forever? and antagonists were actually interesting and intimidating and had compelling goals? and the story revolved around friendship and family and loyalty? and death was definite and loss was palpable and battles were thrilling?

yeah. good times.

Why is it that most of the time they either make Annabeth seem like Percy’s mother or they make her a tool for him to be more angsty and dark and disregard all of her character and trauma? Can we normalize making them equals

y'know what we don't talk about enough? Hazel died. We talk about how she grew up in the 30's and 40's and we talk about how out of place she feels in the modern world, but! She died! She was dead! She has spent more time dead than alive, and not by a close margin!

How does that effect a person??? We got some of it in the flashbacks, but once those caught up with her present timeline and she shared them, they just kind of... disappeared. And she was a regular girl with some weird past experiences. That's one way of doing it, sure!

I think it would have been a lot cooler if she was just a touch creepier. If she felt a little bit Wrong. Yeah, in general she's more approachable than her brother, she's more sociable and less closed off, but. If you actually spend any time with her, it can be difficult to tell which child of the underworld is actually more unsettling.

Hazel is bright of personality and has a dazzling smile, but sometimes she'll just... shut down. She'll go completely blank for like half an hour and nobody knows what to do with it. Sometimes she forgets she's alive. Sometimes she'll spout the grimmest shit you've ever heard like it's nothing, she won't even notice it's weird until the room goes quiet. She spent decades in Asphodel, which is designed to make people forget about themselves and wander around for eternity, only she didn't have the luxury of forgetting! Wild! After she comes back to life, sometimes she forgets that she's allowed to Do Stuff now. She can spend so long sitting and staring at nothing. Sometimes she'll start crying on cloudless days because it hits her again that she can actually feel the warmth of the sun on her skin and she can hear birdsong. Every little mundane experience is a blessing and she will make you remember that in the most foreboding way possible.

honestly i freaking ADORE the jason and nico and percy dynamic, especially in canon where they’re like bickering cousins, but sit with me for a second, cause i had a great idea

percy, nico, and thalia on the greek side

jason, hazel, and if i really wanna push it, tyson(he lives in New Rome im pretty sure?)

anyway as much as i love my three crazy capable idiot boys goofing off together, the roman and greek little three trios have so much potential.

the only thing i’m not sure about is how we’d differentiate between the two Little 3 trios

and when you put them all together then the true chaos unfolds (thalia, jason, percy, nico, tyson, and hazel all sharing a table at CHB when they all show up?? yes please, that’d be iconic) (and jason and thalia can finally bond as Siblings and get to know each other please my heart is too soft for this-)
