When Jon first told Kon he had feelings for Damian Kon's response was "Oh so you like them pretty and mean uh?"

When Jon first realize he had feelings for Damian the first thing he did was Google "Falling for your best friend reddit"

Damian fall for Jon slowly and overtime, he didn't realize it right away though just kind of thought he unlocked a new level of friendship, until one day he noticed how liked it when Jon held his hand and didn't want him to let go. He proceeded to have an internal crisis about it.

That being said though the one he actually is kind of intimidated by is Jason

Kon also tries to give Damian the shovel talk but Damian lowkey kind of scares him so he just decides that Jon is strong enough to take care of himself

One of Damian's favorite pieces of clothing is a hoodie he pretty much stole from Jon. It's far too big on him but he doesn't care, it smells like Jon and that's what matters

Damian never fully realized how much he actually liked physical affection until he started dating Jon. However he doesn't know how to ask for it so instead he just sits or stands really really close to Jon hoping that he gets the message

When they first got together they tried to keep it settled, try to keep it a secret, but they weren't subtle at all because to anyone with eyes it was obvious that something was up with the way that they would stand closer to each other more so than usual, the way that Jon would lean down to whisper something in Damian's ear to make him laugh, and the way that Damian would reach out and run a hand through Jon's hair and in a claim to quote unquote fix it and ask him if he's ever heard of a brush

Jon doesn't really remember when he started to have a crush on Damian. He assumes it was around the time puberty and hormones started to happen but what he does remember is that all of a sudden he would be out with friends or family and think stuff like "oh this would be a fun place to bring Damian to!" or he would see or hear something and be like "this reminds me of Damian!" and it just hit and he was just like "oh no..."

I'm just gonna leave this here because I feel like I should say something. Mizuki is trans, I still agree with the stuff I said a month ago. Did they say it in the story? No. Were they ever going to say it in the story? Well it seemed like I was but they just pulled the most insane 4 year queerbait.

Did people warn me? Yes, and I probably should've listened more, but from a writer's perspective what happened in Ena5 is very stupid so I had a little bit more hope for clpl. Confining any sort of actual coming out scene to a card story and fading to black over the actual reveal is honestly just cruel. Not to mention that Mizuki's bio is probably locked as "gender: ?".

Mizuki is still a trans character and trans representation, though the lack of actual confirmation really sours her story. Especially since the only indirect confirmation of her identity as a woman comes from student a talking to Ena about Mizuki (the whole Ena is a "normal girl" thing). Having Mizuki being robbed of her chance to come out by transphobes, and never resolving this so her bullies are left as the only credible source of her gender is atrocious. Mizuki being outed was a crucial plot point, to never resolve just leaves a bad taste.

It's still a glaring issue that clpl is trying to play both sides here. Which has always been an issue with things like white day and other marketing featuring Mizuki and the boys together. It's just gross that they're still trying to do it now, cutting off the actual reveal of Mizuki's secret and having the characters say "Mizuki is Mizuki", something that's often used by people who want to deny any trans reading, and a new area conversation about Mizuki's voice. Remember that old area convo about Mizuki having a lower voice. It gets referenced in a new one.

The reveal of the secret itself, transness aside, is comedically bad. Project SEKAI's writing isn't exactly amazing by any means, it's pretty basic in the grand scheme of writing, but this is worse than a lot of their other worst offenders. Building up to this big reveal of a secret that is incredibly important to one character's development, only for it not to actually be revealed, and probably never mentioned again, is ridiculous. It feels like a last minute change to ensure mass appeal but I don't know if it was. If it was, they still failed because some fans are dissatisfied that they never got told what it was, regardless of what they think it was.

And no, it's not corporate meddling. Probably. From colopale, maybe, from Sega, honestly probably not. Sega has other franchises and games with queer and specifically trans characters so it's not like Mizuki would be harmful to their brand image. If anyone interfered it was other staff at colopale.

Anyway, I'm not quitting the game and I'll still be running this blog for the time being. Not saying you have to continue playing and I totally understand people who are dropping the game over this. If anyone wants to add their thoughts to this post or send an ask freel free to.

well, to everyone, it's no surprised you've captured the hearts of majority of the student population in kamiyama high. you're literally the IT girl/boy/person of kamiyama and you aren't even aware of it.

you're even a great senior! he met you through toya, who was trying to find tsukasa since he wanted to confirm something and they found him talking to you, and he was instantly whipped! though, he denies it.

toya lightly teases him that he acts like a mess when you're around him and akito just barks back with lies, just to save his pride.

"I'm telling the truth, toya. I don't act weird whenever (last name)-san is around." akito denied his best friend's, toya, accusation. him? having a crush on the school's heartthrob? that's stupid. he would never-

"excuse me?" akito suddenly froze on the spot as toya twirled his head only to see you carrying a bunch of test papers. "oh? toya? and uhm.." you squinted your eyes, trying to recall the name of the frozen ginger beside toya, "oh right! akito, right? you're ena's cute little brother, hm?" you tilt your head forward a bit, smiling in his way.

in the end, toya had the last laugh as he watches his best friend being completely different around their senior, "I told you so." as akito clutches his chest, where his heart is at.

just innocently dropping hints to toya that he 'needs' help with a difficult math problem, that's probably a year above them level, and that he needs a reliable and amazing senior to help him.

he ends up having tsukasa and sometimes rui, it's rare having you to 'help' him since you're quite busy as well.

but, that doesn't stop him! he often has toya delivers his little gifts, after a long time convincing toya that it was his older sister's, ena, request to deliver 'her' gifts, to your desk when you're not around, some students may have thought that toya has a crush on you.

his little gifts consist of key chains of (favorite things), sometimes flowers and pins with your favorite series/anime/manga/etc.

how he knew this? he actually got information from one of ena's conversation with you and your post from your social medias, in which he secretly hearts everything on an alternative account.

he turns into a lovesick puppy the moment you walk in, if he were a puppy, his tail would be going crazy all the while his face would be a hot mess.

during the sport event, you were one of the mc's and it made akito's motivation in winning increased TO THE MAX!

he was running faster than ever, even ena was suprised to see her little brother like that, poor tsukasa who was on his back, tsukasa was holding onto akito's shoulders for dear life.

"shinonome-san is running as fast as ever! it seems like he's eager to win, don'tcha think, partner?" the other mc look at you, waiting for your commentary.

you chuckled, smiling as you watch the intense match between your juniors, mizuki and akito. "I couldn't agree more, partner! even poor tenma-san is holding on for dear life~" both you and your partner snickered.

after he won that match, he was congratulated by you over the mic and no one can image the furious blush appearing on his cheeks, like, YOU, out of all people, were to congratulate him first before toya can?????

he was on cloud nine that even toya had a difficult time in getting him back to his senses till they were in their band practice, an hand to shake him back to life.

he denies this for a long time but, on valentine's day, instead of the classic chocolates and flower, he actually got you special and that he's proud of but, never admit it was him.

he got the valentine's day special chocolate pancake with (favorite fruit) on the side from the place where he usually buys his pancakes, he bought it using his hard-earned money. he also made oragami flowers, bouquet of flowers actually, the flowers being all of your favorite kinds. he actually spent a lot of time and dedication on the oragami flowers and learned them from a lot of youtube videos.

of course, he remained anonymously.

though, he wasn't able to have a lot of conversation with you back then since you were more focused on your youngest sibling's, saki, health and was always in the hospital, in which he couldn't go, fearing that it upset his father.

despite not often having to chat with you, toya can see you as the loving and caring older tenma sibling, within the three tenma siblings, you're the matured and calm one, one of the reasons why toya and you got along pretty well.

him crushing on you came when you caught him tearing up a bit after an argument he had with his father, he was a little kid at the time, and instead of degrading him for crying, you sat beside him and comforted him, whispering nothing but sweet things to him as he cried in your shoulder. you comforted him like how you comforted tsukasa whenever he has his episode due to him thinking he wasn't a great enough brother for saki.

after comforting him, you gave him a small smile and encouraged him to go after what he loves the most, and at that moment, the thing, or person, he loves the most at the moment, till now, is you. he just doesn't realize it till his unitmates told him he was, in fact, has a crush on you.

he felt the warm and loving aura coming out of you that you always give to your family, especially to your younger siblings. something he had craved from his father ever since he was born and yet he never received.

after that day, this little kid was always following you around like a little duckling, except in the hospital, in which you find it to be amusing and adorable since you've ever known toya to be the quiet yet blunt stoic kid and seeing him following you around whenever him and you are inside your house.

upon knowing that fact, the book you gave to him now has its very own section in his bedroom shelf, it even has its own clear protection case to keep the dust away if he's not reading it at the moment.

now that you two, alongside tsukasa and saki, have grown into teenagers, you two have more screen time with each other now that saki is finally out of the hospital!

since you and tsukasa are the same age, meaning when toya was a freshman in kamiyama, you were a senior at miyamasuzaka, the same all-girls school saki is in.

despite being in different schools, you two interacted a lot! especially when all four of you hangout after school!

his feelings for you were rather obvious, at least to tsukasa and saki, he was so different from his quiet and stoic self.

whenever you're around, he smiles more often all the while talking to you, toya can't help it! you're just a beautiful scenery, it's a crime to not admire you. saki even called him out-

toya immediately snapped out of his daydreaming upon being called out, "o-oh.. yes, of course they are." he shyly nodded, feeling his cheeks warming up. saki simply chuckles, knowing damn well that she'll be the matchmaker alongside her older brother.

when vivid bad squad was formed, he immediately rushed to you and told you about it, you smiled at him, he was finally doing what he wanted and not what his father wanted, and you were proud of him.

whenever he's at band practice, he often unconsciously rambles about you to his bandmates, an and akito teases him about it, telling him that they didn't know toya has a crush.

that's when he furrows his brows, crush?

due to his oblivious self, an and akito, mostly an, explained to him that he has a crush on you, and he was like "oh...oh!"

now with this newfound information, he felt even more nervous around you, sometimes stuttering his words as if he's malfunctioning robot.

your (h/c) was shining, complimenting your sparkling eyes and dazzling sweet smile, he felt his heart was racing, racing fast.

he was so stunned that when you and your friends came up to him and his troupe members, he was fumbling with his words all the while his troupe members cheerfully, mostly emu, greeted you and your friends. tsukasa's eyes were mostly on you, though he did try to act normal and tried to look at your friends as well but, his eyes kept glancing over you.

rui, who noticed this, teased him after you and your friends went away. tsukasa denied it, saying you look 'familiar' to him though, rui didn't seem convinced.

over the time your there, his eyes were trying to find you again, wanting to see if he was daydreaming that time but yet every time he sees you, he malfunctions again.

on the other hand, you caught him spying you from afar and whenever he quickly hides, you find it amusing.

he didn't know why he wanted to find out more about you, though you were a random guest, you can be EVERYWHERE!

but, I guess lady luck blessed him after a couple of weeks, he was in front of saki's school, miyamasuzaka, and while waiting, he saw you again! alongside your friends.

once he and saki were back at home, he immediately bombarded her with a lot of questions about you.

and that's how you basically meet the blonde weirdo yet cutie from the theme park you visited a few weeks ago again. he firstly messaged you by introducing himself before apologizing for his behavior a couple of weeks ago, you honestly find it amusing and adorable. you two chatted with each other all day, and then the next day, and the next day-

after that, he invited you to hangout after school whenever your free, sometimes he brings along saki and toya, since you two bonded within the private messages you two have been sending each other.

honestly, he hasn't moved on from your first encounter, he still acts like a silly idiot around you. tsukasa doesn't even know why like, you're like everyone else, average yet has a certain charm around you making tsukasa even more invested into you.

whenever he's around you, he feels like very different that has him questioning himself about it. like, why does he feel funny around you but not to others? why does he feel the urge to impress you more with his charms and talents? why does he stutter his words out like a fool whenever it's you? WHY DOES HIS HEART YEARNS FOR YOU?!

I feel like he's seen a various of romance theaters, movies, dramas, etc (thanks to saki) so, he caught up with what's happening to him, it went like this;

"I'm in love..." the blonde muttered, finally knowing the reasons why he's acting differently to a certain someone. he had finally solved the mystery of his strange behavior whenever you're around!

"I'M IN LOVE- HAHHHHHHHHHH?!" tsukasa immediately stops himself upon seeing in the corner of his eyes, his troupe members all can be seen in the doorway, spying on their leader while rui was recording it with his signature smug cat-like smile plastered on his face.

in the end, let's just say rui, maybe emu and nene, got their blackmail for tsukasa.

he was quite shy at first but, he warms up since in his thoughts, he NEEDS to impress his crush, aka you, because the only way your crush is gonna notice you and wants to talk to you is to impress them! (tsukasa's words, not mine)

expects him to be a very, very, VERY gentleman towards you such as carrying your things, bringing you little snacks, escorting you to your house to your school along with saki, and many more that I can't possibly list down.

when he heard you were a fan of phenny-kun, he just has to impress you with his voice imitation of phenny-kun, he just had to. I mean, it IS his job, alongside his troupe members, to make people smile. his day brightens up whenever you enjoy his imitation of phenny-kun! doesn't he love you too much?

he probably made a play dedicated to you and have scenarios where you, the main character, and he as the love interest, he's too busy daydreaming he didn't notice that one of rui's inventions is coming straight to him-

he became a simp, your simp to be exact.

he honestly didn't expect himself to be having a crush on somebody, especially when his crush is oblivious foreigner such as yourself.

you were the infamous transfer student he had heard about from the juniors; it was quite obvious due to your appearance alone, so you stick out like a sore thumb. if that wasn't bad enough, you also had a hard time understanding and speaking their language. you usually kept quiet as you feared that you might sound like an idiot when speaking japanese.

so now, picture this, a transfer student from (country) that has a hard time understanding and speaking japanese in a japanese high school, seated next to the well-known troublemaker of kamiyama high, now surely it won't be chaotic? spoilers, it did.

rui honestly finds you amusing, he would chuckle whenever he would ask for something to you, and you would completely give him another thing instead what he asks for.

it was another day in class in this new high school of yours, if the lectures make your head dizzy because it's difficult in understanding the teachers a bit, the purple head boy next to you makes it more difficult.

"psst.. mind letting me borrow your eraser for a moment?" he whispered to you, not wanting to get caught by the teacher. rui watched as you confusedly scanning your desk, trying to understand what he wanted from you.

'okay, he clearly wanted to borrow something... but, what??' you were thinking a bit too hard that the lecture from the teacher is mentally blocked from your head, now focusing on the given task by your seat mate.

"um.. t..t..this?" you tried pronouncing the said word in japanese but, it only sounded broken a bit, all the while showing rui a sharpener.

and that moment, rui kamishiro knew, he'll be going to enjoy this year.

you being shy reminds him a lot about nene but, in your reason, you were afraid of sounding stupid while speaking his country's language. though, he'll give you the benefit of the doubt since you were learning how to speak the language.

he teases you even though you mostly don't understand all he just said, which amused him more while you were determined to learn about the language more to know what rui is saying to you most of the time.

eventually, it was one of your daily routines to have rui tease you every day, even though you don't understand half of it but, hey! you're at least getting better with your japanese.

and with that, rui and your friendship began to develop as time went by, the purplenette introduced his unitmates to you and you were thankful that they introduced themselves in english. p.s rui rambles about you to them.

sometimes rui say english words to help you understand what he or other people are saying. though, if someone was mocking or insulting you, rui wouldn't even try to tell you what they are saying instead, he just guides you away from them by wrapping one of his arms around your shoulder and distracts you, though you had a gut feeling that the person was saying bad stuffs to you, you pick up some of their words and understand soe.

I think rui having a crush will take a long time since he's more on focusing on his inventions and his performances with his unitmates so, catching his attention in you, romantically, it's going to be a long ride. though, if you did, in which is going to happen, congratulations then.

though, he did start to feel whenever your around as the days goes by, and honestly, dude was confused. I feel like he has no grasp of like love and crushes since he's probably more focus on his works and his unit's performances that he doesn't have the time to think about anything else like love.

so yeah, it took him a long time to solve this difficult equation on why he feels weird whenever you are around/mentioned. he doesn't know what's happening to him.

with that, he went to nene and intentionally drop a topic like "what if somebody feels weird whenever somebody's around them, like something's making your heart beats faster?" and nene just look at him with a blank expression of hers, already knowing what's up with her childhood (best) friend however, she won't say it just for fun.

even with his newfound feelings, he acted the same but, once you come closer to his chest area where his heart is at, you'll hear his heartbeat. his teasing is still the same though he increased it to the max, anything for you<3

within school/lunch breaks, he'll teach you japanese words and how you pronounce them while you teach him english/(native language) words and how you pronounce it. though, that doesn't mean he'll stop teasing you just because him and you are teaching each other different languages, from time to time, he says to you compliments in japanese and when you try to pronounce it, his smug cat-like smile widens even more.

but, he'll only get scolded by you after you search about the phrases back at home, he'll do it again and again even if he's going to get scolded by you and he'll probably get the silent treatment by you<3

although jokes asides, he'll calm you down whenever you're feeling really anxious about speaking japanese, especially in front of the class whenever a teacher calls you out for recitation. he's one good listener and advice giver, so any problems you have, please go to him and he'll make it better, especially for you.

fast forward to summer holidays and school was ending, with all the moments and days you've spent with rui, you finally made a decision, something you'll feel embarrassed about but, hey! rui someone that is dear to you. as rui finished packing

up his things and mostly every one of your classmates were outside now, you approach rui very differently unlike the way you've approached him before this.

"rui.." you muttered out, loud enough for the said person to hear and make his head turn towards you.

"hmm, yes?" his eyes went immediately towards you, seeing a letter in your hands, your gaze shyer than ever, and some sort of red tint in your cheeks.

"I.. uhm.. I.." you stuttered out, trying to find the words you wanted to say to him. rui, noticing it, gives you a pat on the head as a sign of encouragement as what he always did to you whenever you feel nervous/anxious.

eventually, you finally did as what you have planned the day before, "I.. just want-ted.. togiveyouthis..!" you quickly finished yourself, saying it all in japanese, while handing the letter to him before quickly rushing out, leaving rui with a dumbfounded with a letter in his hand.

the mad sciencetist, I mean, the purplenette boy stared at the letter the rest of the time as he walks home, wondering what you wrote in this. though once he had opened and read it, he lets out a smile, not his usual smug cat-like smile but, a genuine and gleeful smile.

with his heart beating crazily as he only thought about what you wrote in that letter, his thoughts filled to the brim with you, he honestly doesn't know what's happening right now.

Why I Believe That Rui Has ASD (and ADHD)

First of all, I would like to say that I'm diagnosed with Autism and ADHD.

Anyways, let's begin with his ostracization and interests.

In the Revival My Dream event (this never made it to the global servers), Rui’s mother is telling Rui about how it is okay to talk about your interests (this does not go very well in the future, but whatever). His mother tells him, “People are people, and you are you!” He repeats this, “People are people, I am me!”.

Along with that, there's the ostracization he suffered later on.

He went overboard with his shows, eventually leading people to despise and avoid him.

In the Wonderlands x Showtime story Nene describes this: “Rui tried to do shows with his classmates too a few times. But he becomes so absorbed in his shows that he loses sight of everything else, so that didn't go well. That's why he made robots for his plays, and decided to work alone. But… I don't think that's what he really wants…”

Losing sight of everything else because he was so absorbed in his shows sounds a lot like a special interest/hyperfocus. I have one myself (believe it or not, it's not Project Sekai), that causes me to be unable to think about anything else (it's actually quite scary when this happens). I also find it hard to pay attention to things I'm not interested in, to the point of zoning out. Rui also dislikes “menial tasks”. These are symptoms of both ADHD and Autism.

Rui: He lived happily...but not ever after.

Rui: The townsfolk told the alchemist they wanted to take part in his shows.

Rui: At first, the alchemist was overjoyed at their request...

Rui: However, each of his ideas was met with ridicule. One after another, the townsfolk began to avoid him.

Rui: But we must not blame either the alchemist for his odd ideas, nor the townsfolk for their lack of understanding. They simply had a different way of thinking.

Rui: Unfortunately, in the end none of the townsfolk wanted anything to do with the alchemist, and he was left all alone once again.

This alchemist is pretty obviously a representation of himself.

The things I have previously stated led to him spending middle school alone, because no one wanted to interact with him. This was how he met Mizuki.

In the KAMIYAMA HIGH FESTIVAL event story, Mizuki meets Rui on the rooftop once more. She states how she “felt some relief” when they saw Rui “getting along with people and having fun.”

We then see the flashback of their first meeting. Allow me to insert the transcript:

Rui: Oh, I wasn't expecting an audience in such a remote location.

Mizuki: An audience?

Mizuki: I was here first, you know. You got a problem with that?

Rui: Not at all. I didn't mean to offend.

Rui: Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Rui Kamishiro.

Mizuki: Kamishiro, huh? Oh, you're that notorious third year...

Rui: Ah, my fame precedes me. Will you tell me your name?

Mizuki: Nah.

Rui: I see. Well in any case, it would seem fate has brought us together here today. It's nice to meet you, Mizuki Akiyama.

Mizuki: Why'd you ask my name if you already knew it...?

Rui: Because I wanted you to tell me yourself of course.

Mizuki: You're pretty weird...

Rui: Hehe. Yes, I get that often.

Mizuki: Anyway, what did you come up here for?

Rui: I'm just enjoying the scenery.

Mizuki: During the School Festival? Don't have anything better to do? All you can see from up here is people milling around like ants down below.

Rui: You're right. But I like the view. You can see just how lively everything is. Everyone's enjoying one show or another.

Mizuki: If you like that sort of thing, why aren't you down there with them?

Rui: I wish I could. I would if I actually could…

Mizuki: Sigh…

Mizuki: I guess we're kind of two peas in a pod…

Lastly, I would like to bring up his dislike for vegetables. He claims that he doesn't eat them because he sees vegetables as living plants. This is a lie.

… I'm joking. I don't know if it's a lie. But it's pretty funny.

Anyway, in a Q&A, it was asked if Rui could eat fruit-like vegetables, such as strawberries and watermelon. The answer was that he can eat strawberries, but “can't eat watermelons because to him, they look and feel like cucumbers (or any other plants from the cucurbit/gourd family).”

The key word here is, ‘feel’. This implies that he doesn't like vegetables due to their texture. People with ASD already have problems with how foods taste, but also have problems with a food’s texture.

One time, I was eating yogurt, but I felt a… dot(??) inside it. I gagged twice and spat it out. I never ate yogurt again. Another time, I was drinking cafeteria apple juice, only to suddenly feel something lumpy, causing me to spit it out. I ended up throwing the carton away, however, when I looked in the trash can, all the other cartons were empty, so it was only me who had a problem.

I also don't like drinking orange juice that has pulp, and if there's skin (I don't know, the disgusting flappy part) on a piece of chicken, I won't eat it.

My aversion to foods and textures sometimes gets to a point where I don't eat at all.

Because of his special interests, ostracization, and his relationship with vegetables, I believe Rui has ASD, and possibly has ADHD as well.

In order to be complaint with Project Sekai in an area where I can sense its nessisity, I simply refer to my mother by "my bitch mother", due to the fact that we are not given the name of Mafuyu's mother in current lore.

However, if I would have to transfer her a name with my true kin powers, I would assume it is something like "Gabriella". I do not know anybody in my life named Gabriella my bitch mother is definitely not named Gabriella stop sending me asks about my bitch mother Gabriella

Fun Fact when I was trying to find out where vivid street could be on the project sekai map I was cross referencing actual shibuya and I accidentally stumbled across an apartment listing in the miyamasuzaka building that looked eerily similar to toya's apartment. I can't find it anymore tho :/

Ps: My leading theory is that vivid street is in kamiyama-cho in shibuya (there is also a town somewhere else called kamiyama-cho). As in vivid old tale An hid inside a building that would become kamiyama high school. And a tiny An would not be able to run that far away. And it's not far away from scramble crossing. Because in the main story kohane went to the cd store (which is tower records for those that don't know) and was able to walk to vivid street and Google maps told me it's a 17 min walk so not that far at all.

Day 527! I had a dream where I was a ghost possessing project Sekai plushies.

So basically I was a poltergeist stuck at school, and obviously I was getting pretty bored of just sitting around watching lessons. So i decided to start possessing some plushies for fun.

First, I possessed a Kohane doll and went out to find the real Kohane to see her reaction. She was honestly amazed to see a living plushie version of herself, and was flattered when she learned I was a big fan of her. She actually sent me off to find An, who let out a loud “KOHANE!” Upon seeing me, very excited to see an itty bitty Kohane (she was never told her I was a ghost, it’s better she didn’t know.)

Then, later I decided to possess a Nene plush since I was in a classroom with Nene and Emu. Nene was a bit amused since she was already a witness to my Kohane plush shenanigans. I copied Nene’s mannerisms for a bit until I got bored and just started dancing to Glory Steady Go. Emu actually picked me up and started dancing along with me so that was fun.

Crazy Clock Crisis?!

Anyway, today's report is a bit of a weird one -

And it's the reason we're reporting a day late. Someone has been changing the dates and times of all the clocks in Shibuya. And not just the physical ones - even the time on computers and phones have been changed to a day and five minutes early.

I did notice that! I'd been waiting all week for the anime I'm watching to come out on Sunday, but when I checked the date it said Saturday, and I ended up missing the episode!

So the anime episode still released on Sunday... meaning we weren't all experiencing a weird timeloop!

Saki, I think you watch too much anime... timeloops aren't real.

And even if there are, we wouldn't know! Unless we were the ones trapped in it.

Urgh... kinda scary to think about, isn't it?

..We're getting off topic. The clocks and devices in Shibuya are probably not timelooping, as other Sekai's don't seem to have this problem. When I brought my phone to School Sekai yesterday, the time changed to normal - which is how I realized it was wrong.

The date change happened on Friday, I think. I remember that because Friday was unbearably long. I think when it was actual Saturday the date froze on Friday and the time moved back five minutes. But who was behind it? Did anyone notice anything strange?

Well, Onii-chan told me Wonderlands x Showtime's play got moved from Sunday to Saturday, but I don't remember there being an announcement about that... and he went to the Wonder Stage to perform on fake-Saturday-actual-Sunday. There were less people at that performance, but I thought that was because of the date of the play moved.

Well, if you think about it, it didn't really move. It was still on actual Sunday.

Kohane, did you go see the performance?

Yeah. Emu-chan told me the play had moved to Saturday on Monday. But, Saki, I didn't see an announcement on their social media or Phoenix Wonderland's... I guess they forgot to announce it?

I guess..? That's strange, though.

Hey, there's something I should mention. I was talking to Mafuyu - um, Asahina Mafuyu - last night, and Mafuyu said that her computer was still on the correct time and date, while everyone else's was five minutes early.

Ight im analyzing Bake no hana or “flower of transformation” cus its in my brain

Spoilers for mizu5 (obv but heres your warning)

This is mostly line distribution but feel free to add more

So the first lines are about mizuki (obviously)

Probably about people looking at them weirdly and how they’re used to it — and how they’re cute but its “wrong” its “a sin”

Also this is a music thing but enas lyric “its off” is off beat with the song as well

Then more about mizuki crumbling and breaking sown with their secret because it was revealed before they could reveal it themselves

Next, i find it interesting how every time this lime is sung its by kanade, mafuyu, or both (+kaito)

Which could be in reference to the fact that neither of them were there when everything went down

They also seem to take on more narrator roles like in the beginning

Following this, Ena sings this line every time as well — likely in reference to her not being able to say anything to mizuki and being unable to take back the look on her face when mizuki found her—a face that could be seen aa disgust or “ugly” - “makeup” because its not how ena truly feels

(Which btw—i believe was mainly in part to “oh shit i just found out the secret ive been patiently waiting for before i was told and now i feel awful” and not “oh my god mizuki is trans” or whatever your interpretation of that is considering THEY STILL HAVENT CONFIRMED ANYTHING—which is slightly frustrating but alas we can wait)

Next, either mizuki not wanting to go back because they are tired of running—or even (and im leaning towards this one) they cant go bavk to being a kid, to being “how they were”,

“Blossoming” into this flower, they cant go back and not be trans, theyve bloomed into who they are, even if its “off” and “a sin”

(Im trying not to push trans stuff (NOT /neg) and just look at it as it is but its really hard to see it another way for me /lh —a trans person)

Next, another song thing—when mizuki tells everyone to disappear—they do

No one else sings except kaito, and then when they sing “stay with me” they come back

Then they repeat lines with kaito which could mean something-but it may also just be adding kaito to make it different the second time around because music theory

Nearing the end—this may very well be 1: mizuki not knowing the future and mafuyu-ing into sekai

But it could also be a nod to the player—not knowing the future-and until they do mizuki not showing up in the “real world”

And finally—the curse of being born the way they are, they’ve had enough of running (away from their problems, their mistakes) and have essentially done the game equivalent of —well— disappearing

Overall i really want a full version and i think what we have so far is very interesting—i dont have jpsekai so im probably missing some stuff-but i have seen mizu5 so thats where most of this came from

Animation Night 191 - Yuzuru Tachikawa

this is what it's like to play jazz.

OK, so, you know Mob Psycho 100? Maybe I don't even need to say more than that...

Yuzuru Tachikawa! If you're a sakuga type, perhaps a familiar name... if not, let's take a moment to rewind the clock to the strange ancient times of 2013, where there was a certain something called the Young Animators Training Project. Which was a project to train young animators. More substantially, as kvin writes here, it was a project designed to address the collapsing training processes of the anime industry... a project which fell rather short of its aims in many ways.

But in its earlier days, it did fund a couple of very interesting, unique short films. One of them was the original Little Witch Academia, which went on to expand into one of Trigger's flagship series. And the other... was Death Billiards, directed and written by a certain Yuzuru Tachikawa, rising episode director star, at Madhouse.

The premise of Death Billiards, and the later expanded esries Death Parade, is that the dead find their way into bars whose bartenders judge whether they should be reincarnated based on 'death games'. What's a death game? Well, standard bar stuff: billiards, darts... the title is in fact very literal. And it slapped. kVin writes:

Death Billiards was nothing short of a passion project for Tachikawa, who wrote, directed, and storyboarded it all. It was his opportunity to make a stance. To prove he wasn’t just a great ally for other creators, or even a suitable second in command, but rather someone deserving of helming his own titles as he pleased. In his second showing as director—the one fan of the 2012 multimedia project Arata-naru Sekai happens to be a friend of mine and he’ll kill me if I don’t mention it—Tachikawa held nothing back. Death Billiards’ exploration of ambiguity and moral failings that had always intrigued Tachikawa stuck with people all around the world too, and its presentation was so stylish that not even Yoh Yoshinari’s dazzling LWA managed to overshadow it. The OVA immediately put Tachikawa on the map, but truth to the told, that’s far from the extent of its success.

And indeed, Tachikawa - and producer Takuya Tsunoki - went on to do many great things, building up a strong gang of animators around them, many of them associated with the young Studio NUT. Of course, their best known project is Mob Psycho 100, a popular comedy-shōnen manga by One (same mangaka as One Punch Man) which plays around with chuunibyou (in the original sense) ideas of psychic powers in, ultimately, a very grounded, affirming way - and to this Tachikawa et al. brought a slightly sketchy, experimental style which led to some pretty crazy action animation. Mob was a crazy hit; later came their long-term passion project DECA-DENCE, a very fun scifi piece about humans trapped in an elaborate physicalised game, rebelling against the system and staging prison breaks, full of slick zero-g action sequences...

Course while we're talking about NUT, we gotta mention their first work Youjo Senki, perhaps the most outright loathsome anime I've ever seen. Not to beat this dead horse. I can only imagine that the staff working on it were like... somehow oblivious to the blatant nazi barely-even-subtext of what they were adapting? (In keeping with the unfortunate ways that otaku culture plays with nazi imagery.) I just can't square it with any of the other stuff they've made, Deca-Dence in particular. Tachikawa at least was only peripherally involved in that hot mess.

We're not actually here to talk about Mob or Deca-Dence though - they're both way too long for Animation Night. Instead we'll be rolling the clock forward to Tachikawa's most recent project at NUT: an adaptation of Blue Giant, about boys playing jaazzzzzz.

Blue Giant follows Dai, an aspiring saxophonist, as he grows up and toots despite the hostility of the patrons of his local music shop. The film adapts some of the later volumes of the manga, in which Dai has already made some progress in his playing. Dai falls in with two other jazz players: the experienced and arrogant Yukinori and novice drummer Shunji as they form a band. Before long, conflict brews over just how hardcore you should go.

The film is, naturally, a celebration of jazz, full of elaborate scenes of performance, described as being like "a full-blown music video" to really sell you on how moving and awesome jazz movie can be. Jazz and anime can be a great combo (just ask anyone who's seen Cowboy Bebop or Gundam Thunderbolt) and I am pretty curious to see what they come up with here.

Honestly, while I've enjoyed Mob and Deca-Dence, I definitely feel like I'm sleeping a bit on Tachikawa - so tonight I hope to remedy it by checking out where he came from and where he's currently going, with a night of Death Billiards and Blue Giant! NUT's animation is always lively and stylish - they're also the studio where the master of anime-industry animation tutorials, Dong Chang, works - so I think we'll surely see something cool.

Writing Strengths: According to others, I'm very good at conveying a character's emotion. I definitely agree. I also think my sense of humor is something to be proud of. Was also told that I'm good at making the world feel alive. I feel like I tend to skimp out on additional worldbuilding, but apparently readers will just eat up whatever scraps you give them. Or is it just that I'm in the "eating up whatever scraps you're given" fandom?

Writing Weaknesses: Ugh I hate writing fight scenes so much they suuuuuuck. And I keep repeating phrases too. I think I kill them all and then they fucking come back the next time I reread it.

Do I Like Foreign Language Dialogue?: Idk I've never written it.

Favorite Fic I've Written: Unpaid Debts. I know I'm actively posting it right now so there's recency bias there, but trust me when I say I put my entire ass into this. I wanted Fumikado to have a breakdown, and like sure I could've just written a one-shot where they had a breakdown. But it wouldn't have been satisfying. I need to see the process; how their mental barriers break down so utterly that they can't cope their way around it anymore. After some failed attempts I finally concocted a scenario where this could happen, and I am so happy...

I haven't actually posted the part where they break down (and I won't for a little while) but I hope you enjoy it when the time comes.

From a fan of both, definitely Keter if it’s not some sort of super technologically advanced canon - Untitled just manifests on peoples phones without any prompting so it would be extraordinarily hard to contain, they’d probably contain SEKAI havers and tell anyone they might have told that they were just hallucinating as part of the cover story as the actual risk and disruption classes would be low (but that wouldn’t be perfect, so definitely Keter).

I am sorry for dumping a bunch of fandom stuff you don’t know about in your inbox project-sekai-facts guy….

may i ask what you mean on the themes of sexual abuse in pjsk? /gen

It's the objectifying way the male faceless students tend to talk about Mizuki that sets off an alarm bell for me. Like, you know how the project sekais don't get to use strong language, for marketability's sake? How they say 'disappear' instead of straight up referencing suicide, and how they use stand-ins for curse words, and the reader is kind of expected to fill in the blanks there with their Real Life Experience with those words?

I see the same thing in "You can't even tell", "Super cute, too", "Are you also a guy?" and similar lines. The first 2 lines are really as far as the game's allowed to go in terms of portraying Casually Objectifying Mizuki. I feel like, with lines like that, they're looking at the reader and going "So that's an example of the kind of shit they say to her, draw upon your own life experience to figure out the rest". And then you look at your own life experience regarding being trans, and you see that people saying things like That to the trans people you know tend to say them in a sexually charged way, and you're like Oh I See.

The third thing is a more glaring example, I think. Like I just don't think that is exactly what they said to Ena. While the first 2 lines don't feel like stand-ins for a worse sentence to me, I straight up cannot read that last one as anything other than a stand-in. Because when I see men giving a cis girl shit for being friends with a trans girl, they're usually either saying "Are you a [insert one of the slurs for trans girls that's most commonly used in porn] too?" or "So do you also have a dick?". 9/10 times it is one of those things. So I think that line from the faceless students was extremely watered down in the name of 4+ Rating and Clinging To Mizuki's Question Mark

In general I don't know how possible it is to separate the trans experience from sexual abuse. I don't think you can, with stories told in the way Mizuki's is. People are Going to be extremely weird about anything of yours that they deem a sexual charm point, and it seems like that's especially true when you are a trans girl and they are cis men with entitled attitudes. So I think that certain lines in Mizuki's story are showing readers the tip of the iceberg wrt what she deals with

my oc isn’t necessarily a project sekai one but I did have a couple ideas if she was in the prsk universe (I was thinking she’d probably do classical or jazz or smth. Not too sure bc I haven’t thought too much abt it)

if u didn’t know my oc’s name is Yuuki and her main storyline is (sorry if it’s cringe… I haven’t changed it since I was like 10 ..)

so from what I can remember, Yuuki’s main problem was that she didn’t have good trust with others. Due to a ‘curse’; a voice in her head that constantly jabbed at her actions and always told her to worst of outcomes, causing her to quickly ruin any friendships she had developed by being distant and keeping things from them. The curse ruined her life until she decided that the only one she could trust was herself. Until she met Aiya (future gf heheh), who didn’t care that Yuuki was distant and untrusting.

but anyways plot twist that’s probably easy enough to guess: the voice in yuuki’s head; aka her ‘curse’ is herself!! (I’m so genuisss wowwww!)
