Ight im analyzing Bake no hana or “flower of transformation” cus its in my brain

Spoilers for mizu5 (obv but heres your warning)

This is mostly line distribution but feel free to add more

So the first lines are about mizuki (obviously)

Probably about people looking at them weirdly and how they’re used to it — and how they’re cute but its “wrong” its “a sin”

Also this is a music thing but enas lyric “its off” is off beat with the song as well

Then more about mizuki crumbling and breaking sown with their secret because it was revealed before they could reveal it themselves

Next, i find it interesting how every time this lime is sung its by kanade, mafuyu, or both (+kaito)

Which could be in reference to the fact that neither of them were there when everything went down

They also seem to take on more narrator roles like in the beginning

Following this, Ena sings this line every time as well — likely in reference to her not being able to say anything to mizuki and being unable to take back the look on her face when mizuki found her—a face that could be seen aa disgust or “ugly” - “makeup” because its not how ena truly feels

(Which btw—i believe was mainly in part to “oh shit i just found out the secret ive been patiently waiting for before i was told and now i feel awful” and not “oh my god mizuki is trans” or whatever your interpretation of that is considering THEY STILL HAVENT CONFIRMED ANYTHING—which is slightly frustrating but alas we can wait)

Next, either mizuki not wanting to go back because they are tired of running—or even (and im leaning towards this one) they cant go bavk to being a kid, to being “how they were”,

“Blossoming” into this flower, they cant go back and not be trans, theyve bloomed into who they are, even if its “off” and “a sin”

(Im trying not to push trans stuff (NOT /neg) and just look at it as it is but its really hard to see it another way for me /lh —a trans person)

Next, another song thing—when mizuki tells everyone to disappear—they do

No one else sings except kaito, and then when they sing “stay with me” they come back

Then they repeat lines with kaito which could mean something-but it may also just be adding kaito to make it different the second time around because music theory

Nearing the end—this may very well be 1: mizuki not knowing the future and mafuyu-ing into sekai

But it could also be a nod to the player—not knowing the future-and until they do mizuki not showing up in the “real world”

And finally—the curse of being born the way they are, they’ve had enough of running (away from their problems, their mistakes) and have essentially done the game equivalent of —well— disappearing

Overall i really want a full version and i think what we have so far is very interesting—i dont have jpsekai so im probably missing some stuff-but i have seen mizu5 so thats where most of this came from

One thing I wish I had gotten to experience is how it felt to witness the gaslighting simulator that is Mafumom lol How it felt when "Immiscible discord" dropped and she was suddenly there. And then Samsa dropped... How it felt watching the main story and being like "??? Is Mafuyu being severely abused?" because of the crumbs you get (her insane curfew gets introduced in the second or third part of main story... we already see her mother go through all her stuff in her room to get rid of things she doesn't approve of, it just doesn't get really acknowledged lol), and then going crazy bc it's both there and not there. Her mother has no voice lines and no sprite, no name, she feels invisible and unimportant while acting like an insidious creep basically every time she's in the story, but it never seems to be addressed. Yet all Mafuyu's motifs and behavior Hint at her being severely abused. The songs augment this to horrific implications. How did it feel to experience the gaslighting simulator lol

As a rebuttal to the Guiano hater anon: Yes, they WILL hire anyone. ColoPale aims to get as many producers as possible and with the way things are going they do a mix of new and repeat producers. Guiano's most popular song is Superhero, and the reason you might see him as not "groundbreaking" is because he wasn't here way back in 2010, hell his oldest song was in 2015. Since Superhero came out in 2018 (I think) he's gotten himself a fanbase and while not as big as Deco, Giga, and the rest, it's there. ColoPale probs just liked it (considering it was added to the game in September 24) and was like yeah we want more likeat.

Another trend in repeat producers issat most of them were commissioned for a different unit. This is because their style works for multiple units. For example, Harumaki Gohan for VBS and N25 (Gekkou/Empurple) and Yunosuke for VBS and MMJ (Awake Now/Supernova). The latter is also a case of MMJ branching out past typical idol music to do something that can only be described as wicked pissah. In Guiano's case I think it's a mix of both of them. His style does work for MMJ and VBS but also because Voice of the Beam isn't traditional EDM like most VBS songs. Lately I feel like they've been branching out, like see Blender (acid jazz) and Fuel (metal). Voice of the Beam gives off those vibes of one of those 00s summer songs that you'd hear when walking down Weybosset Street at sunset.

In conclusion, yes, there are reasons Guiano was commissioned twice. His style isn't for everyone and that's okay. But you can't forget that he's groundbreaking to me.

Fun fact, this is the backstory behind the constellation of Aries, magic golden flying ram is kinda sick if you think about it. Okay, here me out, Dragon Duke. The kind of dragon that can see into the future and knows things it shouldn't and is real vague about it. They've got that natural armor, an iconic signal feature, and he's more batlike rather than birdlike on the dichotomy of batfamily member types. They can also make light if you count spitting fire as conjuring light. What is fire if not light that hurts you.

yeah! that one was done by famous vocaloid artist Rella, who also did RAD DOGS, Kanade Tomosu Sora, Worldwide Wander, and Mr. Showtime. She also did the in-game Vocaloid MV for Just Be Friends. kanade honestly really really really resonates with me as a character, and mizuki is MIZUKI, they probably woulda been higher but just got bumped out bc of other characters between them. ALSO THO i love their cohesion in the group & i love their relationships with others but i think they can feel kinda one note at times in ways that i personally don't really vibe with

mizuki is the first one to be all-but-word of god-confirmed to be trans and that's so awesome but idols whose central conflict revolves around gender (specifically even escaping masculinity) have existed forever she's just the first character to get the "full send" treatment

meanwhile kanade falls into a support role and i'm sure she'll probably be the next to snap if they keep hunting down the N25 members like that but until she does it just kinda feels like she gets pushed to the sidelines even as a very important & pivotal character. Empurple and its use of colours

In this essay I will explain the importance and meaning of every colour that Empurple shows.

It's incredibly obvious that the "crimson sky" the song is referring to is Niigo, seeing as Mafuyu tries to hide it at all costs but thinks it's beautiful.

Similarly, the "blue eyes" would be Mafumom's, since that is the person Mafuyu is trying to hide Niigo from. Blue eyes are "embedded" in her hand, that way she can't get away from them, they see her every move. "

An unknown shade of colour" could relate to Mafuyu not understanding her mother during their fight.

So Mafuyu, caught between wanting to be with Niigo but still being loyal to Mafumom, is purple, and her identity is a mix of both. Both are important to her and both have shaped her.

"the answer was rusted" could imply that Mafuyu slowly started to become biased on Niigo, and "what will you be, the Rebecca in the vase?" is very likely related to Kaito and Mizuki urging Mafuyu to run away and fight back.

Finally, the black dress is probably Mafuyu's fake self, because it's the lack of colour or light. Especially because it's preceded by "wondering what kind of person she'll become tomorrow" -> what kind of personality Mafuyu has to become next in order to please. Mafuyu is empurpling in the way she's letting go of her black dress and becoming something else.

As a bonus: Mafuyu's world is devoid of colour to the point she can't notice the difference in traffic light colour. Also, traffic lights only have the colour red -> Niigo is the only option to proceed.

Mr. Showtime and Ms. Nothingness!!!

This Mafuyu commission is slowly becoming my favourite Mafuyu commission so far, and honestly it’s well deserved. I have so many thoughts of her commissions’ progression.

For a long time it felt like [the themes] was getting lighter with every commission. Jackpot Sad Girl felt like the song was written for a marionette show, just like how Mafuyu was her mother’s marionette. Reborn is like a small reprieve, a balming essence to the soul, a cry for help perhaps. Bug was her finally realising. Engeki is her taking charge and trying to escape for her own survival. Empurple is her hope of reconciliation.

Yet, the new song felt like her heart has been broken, choked. She is relapsing into trying to please her mother and yet that is hurting her more, like the thorns and barbed wires she set up around her heart to protect it only to get hurt instead. The road to recovery is a long way to go, and it isn’t always easy, but I hope Mafuyu’s story will come to a happy end!!!

The song made me feel a lot of things. It is definitely in the same veins of Unpoison, and definitely feels like a song OWN, not Yuki, would write and compose. A choking sense yet it is her deepest and rawest emotions. It also somehow reminds me of Maretu’s and Kikuo’s songs and I love it.

I also love the 2D MV so much!!! I love the detail of for the first 2/3rds-ish of the MV it shows only Mafuyu and her being alone. Surrounding her are balloons of her different masks and her test papers. Someone pointed it out but at the end with the full group Mizuki is also the only one to be looking up, the only one to have her peace for now because her secret has been told.
