No bc why did Johnny just suffer non-stop for his entire fucking life - he was abused from a young age by his shitty dad, he saw his brother die and blamed himself for it, became disabled because of an extremely minor offense during a time period where being disabled was especially hard, was abandoned in an abusive hospital and disowned by his dad who should KILL HIMSELF, made a single (1) friend only to watch him die, had the chance to bring his friend back dangled in his face, the whole fucking ordeal with alt. Diego, fell in love and had 2 kids BUT THEN IMMEDIATELY his wife started to die, stole the corpse to heal her (going against his agreement with the only 2 people from the race he had left) but then his fucking son started to die instead, finally he died by getting his head crushed by a fucking boulder at the age of only 29????!!?!??!?!?!??!!
Like he just suffered constantly and never really won and never had the life he deserved but despite EVERYTHING he showed such remarkable resilience and KINDNESS throughout his life, he SAVED Lucy and his family and loved animals and hoped for things to get better despite it all and fought so hard and came so far and even missed and grieved for his ENEMIES because of how much the race meant to him and it was all destroyed at the end despite everything he did and his legacy continued on but they'll never know what we know and its been 100 years and he's been dead for so fucking long and has faded into an old folktale and all the characters from SBR are GONE and the world has moved on and time has passed and the inheritance of curses, burden and trauma through the bloodline and I miss Johnny so much and he unknowingly set in motion the curse of his descendants all to save his wife and then his son who he cherished despite being abused by his own father and how different would everything had been if he just received the love he deserved from his family and oh my god he's just like Jonathan and Jolyne and he acted out of pure love even if it went against everything he'd previously fought for because he is so incredibly human and even though he's gone and his descendants will never know him, his sacrifice and love and resilience persists through them and we know that but they can't and -

Hi can u pls do one where Carl and the reader first meet up at Alexandria and Carl doesn't like him but starts to warm up to him after seeing how the reader is very outgoing and fun guy pls🙏 ( u don't have to make it like this u can make it in any type of way u want and can the reader be a top🙏)
Oh. My. Fucking. God.
I love this so much 😭 I'll repeat what I did:
Internally silently scream, mental breakdown. Practically repeat, so you get the idea.🙇
Besides that, I'll start the actual thing.
'𝘼 𝙇𝙄𝙇' 𝙏𝙊𝙐𝘾𝙃 𝙐𝙋' (HAS AN ENDING, WILL MAYBE EDITED SOON)
𝘼 𝘾𝘼𝙍𝙇 𝙂𝙍𝙄𝙈𝙀𝙎 𝙓 𝙈𝘼𝙇𝙀 𝙍𝙀𝘼𝘿𝙀𝙍
➪➪➪➪➪➪➪➪➪➪➪➪➪➪➪➪➪➪➪➪➪
𝙒𝘼𝙍𝙉𝙄𝙉𝙂(𝙎): Reader can cook cause why not, I thought it would be cute 😒. (Sorta) Enemy to lover thing. Foul language. Possible bad grammar Stuff like that so be warned. When 'parent' comes up, it basically means parent of choice so you can use your father or mother for this case. Mentions of death will be in this story, nothing to sensitive. (SEASON 2 AND 8 CARL WILL BE USED, HE DID NOT DIE IN MY WORLD! ✊🧍) (IT WILL BE M/N INSTEAD OF Y/N WITH USAGE OF HE / HIM)

𝙎𝙏𝙊𝙍𝙔 𝘽𝙀𝙂𝙄𝙉𝙎 𝙐𝙉𝘿𝙀𝙍 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝘾𝙐𝙏
You both grew up together as good friends but parted as soon you started to take care for yourself.
Rick and your parent thought you both would never separate from the way you both treated eachother.
(Flash back time 😘) (SEASON 2)
The day he was shot worried you to the bone. Your face drained white and you saw him laying down on the bed, the others keeping their best to keep him alive while Rick was almost to the point of crying.
A few days past, huddled up to your parent. You both were out, Rick stayed with Carl.
"Is M/N alright?" Carl looked at his father worryingly.
His father took a deep sigh, "He's alright." He held his sons hand, reassuring what he said. It was a dangerous world, were you really okay?
The day got to him that he got better, he was more then relieved that you were okay.
"Carl!" You jumped, running at him with a fast pace, smiling and almost crying.
"M/N!" You both ran into eachother, which felt like it lasted forever.
You didn't want to leave him or this moment.
(Days pass because idk honestly.)
The days were long with fun, the sound of you two giggling. You, and Carl.
"M/N!" Your parent called out.
Your heart dropped.
You knew what was going to happen.
You didn't want it to happen.
Not without Carl.
It was the day you left.
Carl let out a simple "Awww." not wanting the fun to end. You just stood there, in defeat.
"Come on M/N, we have to.'
You never understood why.
Your things were packed, Carl got the hang on what's going on. There was a stuffed animal of your (Fav animal). You looked at it and hugged it one last time.
"Here." You still out your hand with the stuffed animal.
He looked at you, noticing the details he could never forget. Your (Eye color), (Hair color), and your (accessory of choice).
He took the stuffed animal and hugged it, soon pulling you into a tight hug. Sobs leaving both out your mouths.
You waved at everyone goodbye, and took your parents' hand while walking off.
"I don't want to go, I don't wanna lose Carl." You said looking down.
"It's not the last time we will see them, we'll visit again." Your parent hoped.
(Back on track, meaning Season 8)
"Alexandria." Your mind read.
The huge walls seemed to be covering something, you tapped your fist on the entrance of the sketchy place.
They slowly opened up, not gonna lie you thought it was quite creepy.
"M/N?" A man spoke out.
You couldn't tell who it was. It seemed slightly familiar.
You focused on the looks for a minute.
"Rick?" Your eyes opened.
"What are you doing here? Where's (Parent name)? Are they alright."
You gripped your hands into fists while slightly looking down, flinching at your parents name.
"Oh." He looked in defeat.
"Come on in, it dangerous out here."
You walked through the gate, revealing barely any familiar faces. It was a small little town. Enough for these people I guess.
"Carl would be happy to see you." He said walking off.
You tilted your head. "Carl?" You couldn't remember the name. Which made you somewhat worry.
You didn't know where to go, so you walked over to this house looking place and welcomed yourself in. No one was in there anyways.
People have you weird stares. The people that you remembered were most likely gone by now. So it was a weird feeling be stared at by the people you do not know or barely remember.
You sat down in a chair. Trying to claim what happened.
(Lil' flashback time)
"Go M/N!" It was the scream of your parent, you ran as fast as you could. Dodging any walkers.
The screams of pain made by your parent only made you run faster.
Your mind was so foggy since then.
You couldn't remember anything besides the regret and the screams of your parent.
(Back on track)
You heard thudding upstairs, taking out your gun for safety. You had trust issues since then. Yeah sure, you were outgoing. But you also had to keep on track.
Walking down a hallway, you cracked open the door to peek. Before opening it all the way pointing out your gun and whatever or whoever was there.
The male towards you stook his hands up with a shocked expression.
"Who the hell are you?" You pointed out, examining the room.
There's a thing you remembered. The stuffed animal you gave up as a child.
You don't remember who got it, but you certainly don't remember him.
He didn't look like a threat. You lowered the gun, putting it away and walking off.
He last sight of him was just him standing there all confused like 'What the fuck just happened.'
You walked out if the house, going towards who knows what. Something to get away from the place. There was a step, that your eyes caught.
You sat down.
He looked familiar. The brown hair, and the hat he never gave up.
"Is that the Carl guy?" You thought once again.
Repeating the name 'Carl' in your head over and over again trying to figure out who it was.
(Carl's POV:)
That guy was weird. Pointing up a gun at me like it was nothing.
I sighed and plopped down on the bed that was near. I took a glance of the stuffed animal next to me. He thought back of the guy who pointed the gun at me.
"It can't be."
"It's probably not, he was a child. He possibly can't make it out there with a single adult." I thought. "M/N."
I looked at him from the window as I sat up, comparing the child to him.
"Holy shit.." my eyes widened.
(Your POV:)
I can't just assume everyone is a threat.
You noticed a little rabbit ahead out you, standing on it's hind legs looking at you.
You smiled, sticking out your hand. It leaped towards you sniffing your hand, expecting food but nothing was there.
Still trusting you, it sat down. It was a beautiful white color, it was dirty the the dirt but oh well. Petting the small animal in front of you.
(Back to Carl's POV:)
"The smile is familiar." I thought. It must be him.
I walked out of the house, slightly walking fast to where he was.
(Your POV:)
The bunny got spooked and ran from a shadow approaching you quickly.
The man came across you, you looked up. Viewing details of him, it was the same guy you almost shot.
"M/N." He spoke.
"How the hell do you know my name?" You looked sternly, pretty scary for a funny guy.
"You're M/N L/N, son of (Parent name) right?"
"I said, how did you know my name."
"You don't remember your own childhood friend?"
"No, now who are you?"
"Carl, Carl Grimes. You gave me that stuffed animal of (fav animal) when you left."
"Your Carl?" You looked at him, realising his appearance of the brown hair, and blue eye.
It was visible that he didn't know how to act, so he came up with anger and stormed back to the house.
You finally knew, you were staring to remember once again.
(Time skip for my lazy ass)
Carl avoided you often, you never had anyone to hang with so you chose animals. You would cook your own meals, reload / sharpen your own weapons.
You went out hunting a couple of times, got used to the people around you, there was quite a few kids around here. (Idk who they are either, just make up random kids.) running around and laughing.
You played with them rarely since you were still new.
"You didn't tell me why." Carl finally approached you, as you played with children.
The children chattered off while you looked at Carl for a minute, clueless.
"Why you left, now fucking tell me."
He was visibly upset. "I don't know." Was all that came out of your mouth.
"I don't know why the hell I left, it was my parents idea." You didn't look as stern as before. It was a more of a 'calm' look.
He looked at you once before walking off again.
It became a normal thing, quick talk then walk off. Usually asking where something is.
You began to feel lonely, about no one to socialize too. Sure you've been like that for years. That only made it worse.
You decided to confront him without him walking off like he always does.
(Time skip for yet again, my lazy ass.)
"Why the hell do you keep walking away from me?" You asked.
"It's not important, never will be. None of the conversations are anyways."
"Tell me what's wrong." You looked at him, not joking around. You wanted an answer.
He took a deep breath before looking at you, "It's the fact you didn't recognize me, your own childhood bestfriend. I've been missing you for years, years M/N!" He shouted a bit. Silence fell in between you two.
"How about we make up for it?"
He looked up at you, "what?"
"Make up for it, we can practice our aiming while chatting. Maybe tomorrow?" You said smiling.
Your smile was his weakness, it was always so sweet. "Fine."
He said, but this time you walked off and not him.
(You called it, time skip)
"I'm here." He looked at you. "Great" you smiled a bit.
Taking out your gun.
(after a bit of practice cause I'm not describing shit today, it was stressful.)
After a bit of talking about his eye, any things you wanna you gathered from the journey until Alexandria.
"We should do this more often, it wasn't bad at all." The only thing he could do was look at you before nodding, and yet again walking off.
"He needs to quit that damn habit" You thought.
(Carl's POV:)
"Fucking shit, oh god." I thought aggressively while walking off at a fast pace.
I was a blushing mess, the way he looked so hot while shooting random stuff.
"There's no way I can like men, it's not possible right?"
(It is fucking possible welcome to gayness)
(-note from Soul)
I was playing around with my food until M/N showed up. I glanced away from him, making my hat cover my face. A quick "Hey." came out of him, I said nothing.
I was alone, and he sat across from me, eating whatever he had. It smelt better then what I had at least. Like something I haven't had in a long time but I never mentioned it.
(I might edit this later but after a couple of date like things please don't come after me I'm tired as fuck 🙇)
It was like I warmed up to him or something,
(hold the fuck on before I continue, something yellow came across me fucking FAST for a split second and my lights flickered. What the fuck 😧)
He laughed and smiled more often, and so did I. It couldn't possibly be because of feelings? Could it? Can't be.
My thoughts and feelings were to gathered up.
I wanted to throw up, but not in a bad way.
I felt and acted different around him. It was comforting around him apart from the hell- hole of an earth this is.
The way he smiled brought back so many memories, so many feelings, and bright sides.
I understood why he never recognized me at first.
It's the differences we both made.
"Carl?" "Carl!" A voice spoke out, clearly wanting my attention.
"Hm?" I looked up to see the one and only M/N.
"You're zoning out again, lasted longer then usual. You alright?" He spoke out it a little bit of concern.
"Just a ramble. Nothing to serious."
"What's it about?"
"Nothing you'd understand."
"Amuse me."
"I'm not telling."
"Why not?" The male said in defeat.
"I said you'd probably not understand."
"You said probably, maybe I will? Come on, please?"
"It's the same old him." I thought.
"It's memories-"
"About what?"
"Let me finish my sentence and maybe I'll say."
He just looked in boredom, wanting me to just blurt it out.
"Memories about the younger us, when we did all sorts of things. Remember when we first learned how to use guns?"
"Barely, but it's enough." He focused on his memory. He explained how his mind got blurry and couldn't remember much since his parent during the hang out a couple days back.
"Do you ever think your eye will come back?" He pointed towards my missing eye.
"Still dumb as usual." I yet again thought to myself.
"Probably not."
M/N was on a random ramble again about things he randomly thought, I pretended to listen. I wasn't really though. It's usually about dumb shit, or even things that are not even possible. I'm just glad he trusts me to speak about these things. Or even talks to me at all.
I snapped back out of my thought.
"Still on that stupid ramble." My mind spoke once again.
After a while he finally quit with a "I'm hungry." and left the room. I followed along and sat down at the kitchen table, just to give him company while he cooks.
"You hungry?" He asked.
"Could snack on something."
There was a whole bunch of ingredients on the counter, while he worked, measured, poured, all that stuff while I went on my ramble about him again.
"A bit of that.."
I hear him ramble on, not sure what he meant. But he placed a tray in the oven which looked like cookies or something. Pretty sure it was based on the sugary smell of chocolate.
"Smells good, what is it?"
"Chocolate chip cookies, it was my parent's recipe."
Minutes pass by, until a loud "Ding!" Passed through our conversation.
He sat up, talking out the tray. The fresh smell of cookies made my mouth water, I always loved sugary stuff. Especially when fresh.
He sat down once again, guessing to let the cookies heat settle down.
A chat came between us, as usual to cover the silence.
Sitting up once again, the cookies were put onto clean plates. Walking over, he placed a plate down infront of me.
Him sitting down and eating, I take one off the plate and taste it. A sense of satisfaction and sugar came across my mouth. Probably the best cookies I've tasted.
"Is it good?" He questioned.
I nodded, stuffing my mouth with cookies.
He chuckled while giving off that sweet smile of his.
-QUICK BONUS
My father came bursting into the house, making us both jump. Storming by he grabs a cookie off the tray and shoves it into his mouth with aggression before angrily stomping upstairs. Making us both giggle about his reaction.
(Back to story)
"What's up with him?" He laughs out
"Probably someone isn't co-operating with him" I laugh off.
"Still has the same short temper." We both laughed at that one.
As soon the plates were empty with only crumbs left on them. He takes the plates making his way to the sink.
"A lil' touch up."
I heard him say as he stops beside me, making me look at him in confusion.
And there it was.
A pair of lips on mine, his lips were soft. But I couldn't control myself but kiss back.
He pulled back and giggled, taking off my hat and putting it on top of his head, soon ruffling my hair.
I swear I was beet red.

Part 14 - Backlash
You had seen an enforcer before, but only from a safe distance, back then it had seemed so impressive and scary. This Marcus, however, seemed more like a wannabe, he was arrogant and at the same time you could see how uncomfortable he felt in Silco's presence and his gaze kept wandering nervously to Sevika, who was sitting next to you on the sofa.
Marcus' eyes fell on you every now and then while he was talking to Silco, but you noticed that only incidentally, since you had a book in your hand in which you were more or less reading.
He said, "I understand why Sevika is here, but this is a private meeting, why is she here?"
When you looked up questioningly, you saw that he was pointing at you.
"You better put your finger down if you want to keep it," Silco growled "She's here because I trust her unconditionally."
Marcus put down the hand pointing at you with a grim expression and said sternly "That may be, but that doesn't mean I have to trust her".
Uncertainly you gave Silco a questioning look, wanting to know if you should back off, but he shook his head barely noticeable.
"She's staying here. I want to keep an eye on her."
Marcus looked searchingly at his conversational partner.
"Why? I thought you trusted her?"
Silco sighed "Yes, I do, but I don't trust the people she might come in contact with in my absence"
The Enforcer seemed to think for a moment, then leaned back in his chair, crossed his legs, and finally asked snarling, "What was that disaster with the Firelights? Even in Piltover they talk about how Silco and his henchmen rip children's gangs to shreds"
He ran two fingers over his upper lip beard as if to tidy it.
"Why do you care?" Silco asked a counter question.
"Because it's making waves and could jeopardize our plans. If word gets out that you're slaughtering kids, it won't go over well anywhere. Neither with the authorities nor with the civilian population. Mere fear will not keep you in power," Marcus explained with a stony face.
Silco sighed.
"An exampel had to be made. It will be enough. Massacres like this are not commonplace, it was.... an exceptional situation. Let me worry about the backlash"
Marcus' gaze briefly shifted to you again. This time you had listened, after all this was more or less about you.
"I heard it was about a woman, someone you care about was kidnapped by the Firlights. I suppose it's the one you trust so unconditionally?"
You remained calm, trying not to let his words make you nervous. You didn't like the thought that so many people seemed to know about you and Silco.
Silco leaned forward, calmly took a cigar from the box on his table and said quietly but with a vibrant, warning undertone, "The details don't matter and shouldn't interest you."
Marcus sighed, there were a lot of sharp words on the tip of his tongue, but he knew how stubborn Silco could be and also how dangerous. It was better to adapt and let the matter rest for the time being, he knew that.
The conversation turned back to business and you picked up the book again. However, you couldn't concentrate, you must have read the same sentence ten times as you closed the book and looked at Sevika with a soft sigh. She shrugged her shoulders as if to say, I know, I'm bored too. But she had to be here, for security reasons, and Silco had insisted that you not go anywhere outside the office without him or Sevika, at least for the time being.
Later, as Marcus was about to leave, Silco walked him to the door. Something you had never seen before, usually Silco didn't get up to say goodbye to a visitor. You saw him grab Marcus' arm at the door and pull him a little closer. You couldn't hear what he was saying, but the scene seemed tense.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Don't even think about it," Silco spoke softly but authoritatively.
Marcus tilted his head to the side questioningly.
"Excuse me?"
Silco briefly gestured in your direction with a nod of his head.
"Trying to use her for leverage. I know it flashed through your mind when you realized how important she is to me. But I'll give you some well-meaning advice- don't even think about it. If anything happens to her, or if I hear that you're planning something like this, I'll get your entire family and anyone else you care about and pump them so full of Shimmer that they'll never recover."
The enforcer stared at Silco. Yes he had actually thought of that, of course. What was the best way to gain an advantage over Silco, a man without scruples who would stop at nothing? By taking something that really meant a lot to him.
Marcus blinked, but before he could really think about an answer Silco spoke: "Think about your daughter, I'll get her first".
The enforcer bit his tongue, swallowing the sharp comment that wanted to cross his lips. He knew Silco didn't make empty threats.
"I wouldn't stoop to anything like that," he finally said stiffly, yanking his arm free and leaving the office.
As Silco closed the door behind him and turned around, he saw Sevika and you both staring at him critically and questioningly.
"What was that all about?" you asked directly, something you didn't normally do, you didn't usually interfere, but you had a strange gut feeling.
"Business", he replied simply "Don't look at me like that, everything is fine".
"Didn't look like it," Sevika grumbled.
"Yep," you confirmed her statement dryly.
Silco sighed.
"Since when do you two actually team up against me?" he asked more or less amused and cocked an eyebrow at the two of you.
Before you could respond, however, the office door flew open. You all jumped to your feet in startlement, but it was Jinx who came strutting into the room, a big grin on her face.
"Everyone here? Nice," she said, her gaze wandering over each of the people present, as if checking to make sure everyone was unharmed.
Finally, she turned to Silco.
"Saw the Enforcer enter and leave the bar. Any trouble?" she wanted to know.
Silco shook his head, "No, not really."
She crossed her arms in front of her chest and glared at him, obviously annoyed.
"But there was trouble and you didn't tell me about it. Then afterwards I have to find out that Y/N was kidnapped by the firelights and you made a massacre without me!"
Silco sighed and gritted his teeth. He should have been expecting this, but he hadn't.
"Jinx, I had things under control-"
"No you didn't, she was gone, kidnapped, despite the ogre as chaperone," she growled pointing at Sevika whose eyes narrowed critically "and you didn't tell me a word, I could have helped! Even now after it's over you haven't said anything!"
Silco who usually always had an answer ready, looked over at you, helplessly for a moment, he knew no answer he gave her now would satisfy the girl.
"Y/N I don't blame you.“ she said pointing at you, then she pressed a thinger on Silco's chest, saying, „You've probably kept her locked up here since she got back, knowing you. It bugs you that you couldn't keep her from getting kidnapped so you don't let her out of your sight anymore"
Jinx looked in your direction.
"Isn't that right?"
"... well, I guess so" you said uncertainly, you had no interest in angering either her nor him. It didn't matter which of the two you angered, in an angry state they were both like powder kegs, only Silco's keg had a longer fuse.
Jinx looked at Silco again.
"So, what do you have to say for yourself?"
"Do you want to hear the truth?" he asked gently, taking the hand with the Figner pressed against his chest in his.
"Yes, of course I do!" rumbled Jinx as if it were a matter of course.
He sighed, "I didn't think about it. I was upset and angry and just wanted her back, so I acted. But even if I had thought about informing you, I wouldn't have done it."
"Why not?", Jinx wanted to know, pouting.
"Because you would have rushed off and put yourself in danger to save Y/N. But that's my job and you're my daughter. I have to protect you both, sometimes from yourselves"
Your brows moved up at the last words, but you remained silent rather than start a discussion.
Jinx was thinking about his answer, really not satisfied with it, but some of her anger had faded.
Tumultuous noises from downstairs in the bar, made you all sit up and take notice. Bar brawls were not uncommon here, but this somehow sounded different, more serious. With a nod in Sevika's direction, Silco murmured, "Go see what's going on."
Sevika jumped up and complied with the request. Silco stepped hurriedly towards you, pulled you up from the sofa and put Jinx hand in yours.
Shots were heard, more clattering noises, a few screams. You suspected bad things were coming. Maybe Silco's sins against the Firelights' kids had caught up with him.
"I want you two to lock yourselves in the bedroom," he said sternly.
"What, no! I want to help!" protested Jinx.
Your eyes went wide and your gaze twitched back and forth between the two of them and the office door. Fear slowly crept into your bones, wormed its way under your skin and settled like a heavy stone on your chest, making it hard to breathe. His serious, worried demeanor made you more nervous than any sound coming from the bar. Silco was never worried in his own four walls, but now- now he was.
" You are, Jinx, by helping me protect Y/N. Did you bring your revolver?"
Jinx pointed to the leather holster on her belt and nodded seriously.
Silco knew she needed a task, and he gave her one.
For the first time, he regretted not having emergency exits installed up here.
"Good girl," he spoke softly and pushed you in front of him to the bedroom door.
He opened the door and pushed you inside.
"You two stay in here no matter what you hear and you shoot anything that comes through that door unless it's me" he ordered sternly "I'm counting on you Jinx".
Silco gave you both a quick kiss on the forehead before closing the door and disappearing back into his office.
You just stood there your heart pounding hard against your rips.
Tumblr media
His pulse raced and his chest felt strangely tight. It was a familiar feeling, one he hadn't felt in a while though - fear.
Silco went to his desk, opened a drawer and took out the revolver that Jinx and you had made for him. He grabbed the ammunition lying loose in the drawer and loaded the gun.
The tumultuous noises from the bar were still raging. He didn't know what was going on, but the fact that Sevika hadn't come back yet wasn't a good sign. He didn't know if he could do much, but he was determined to confront anyone who came through that door to protect you and Jinx.
He sat down in his chair behind the desk, the revolver loaded in his hand on his lap. Silco listened to the sounds and waited for whatever was coming.
Tumblr media
Jinx looked around. She had never been in this room before. Her eyes fell on the bed, then she looked at you.
"I'd rather not sit there. You'll probably do all sorts of things together that I don't want to know about in this bed," she remarked dryly.
You thought that if she was bothered by that, she couldn't sit on the sofa either, or Silco's desk, or one of the bookshelves, or on the rug in front of the bed she was sitting on right now, her gun drawn in her hand.
"Hmm," was all that came out of your mouth, there was nothing you could have said to that anyway.
Your thoughts were circling around Silco in his office and what was happening in the bar. Was Sevika all right? Would there be really angry people storming the office and maybe even killing Silco?
The stone in your chest that was on your heart seemed to be getting heavier by the minute.
"What do we do if they really come in here?" you heard yourself ask.
Jinx cocked her gun and said dryly, "Kill them, of course."
"You say it in such an easy fashion."
Jinx looked at you.
"Don't worry, I'll protect you"
You smiled worriedly at the girl and once again you were surprised how brave she was, how strong-willed and determined.
"Please don't put yourself in danger unnecessarily" you said gently.
"Don't worry about me"
A noise behind the closed bedroom door made you fall silent. It sounded like someone kicked open the door to the office. A shot that made you wince. Then you heard Silco's voice muffled, but you couldn't make out the words. Your heart was beating wildly. Then you heard a voice that sounded like Sevika. At first you wanted to breathe a sigh of relief, but then you heard more voices.
Jinx and you silently exchanged an uncertain look.
Again you heard tumultuous noises, this time directly from the office. The next moment, green smoke poured from under the bedroom door. A gas.
"Fuck..." it came over your lips.
Hastily, you pressed your hand in front of your mouth and nose and grabbed Jinx's arm.
Jinx coughed, and did as you did, pressing a hand in front of her mouth and letting you pull her into the bathroom. Hurriedly, you closed the bathroom door behind you and tried to stuff the gaps between the door and the frame with towels.
For a moment it seemed like it was working, but soon the green smoke was seeping into the bathroom as well. You couldn't possibly hold your breath the whole time.
As you coughed, gasping for air, inhaling the smoke, you felt your limbs go limp almost instantly and an abrupt, heavy fatigue wash over you. Jinx was already lying on the floor with her eyes closed, but you could see her chest rising and falling. She was only unconscious.
Powerless, you sank to the floor, leaned against the base cabinet under the sink, and reached for her hand.
Slowly your senses weakened. You heard footsteps coming closer in the bedroom. The bathroom door opened, bringing another gush of green gas into the room. A man stood in the doorway, tall, dark skin, the color of milky coffee, blue, cold eyes looking down at you. You saw a scar on his neck and a breathing mask covered his mouth and nose, but you were sure, standing before you was someone who couldn't be here at all.
"There you are," the man said in a voice that sounded raspier than the last time you met.
It was impossible, and yet he was standing in front of you.
"Tavos..." it came faintly across your lips before you lost consciousness.

Blackmail – (13) A fresh start || [Alejandro Gillick x reader x Matt Graver]
previously: part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, part 6, part 7, part 8, part 9, part 10, part 11, part 12.
note: after several months, here's chapter 13.
Tumblr media
Your relationship with Matt changed drastically in the course of twenty-four hours. He only spoke to you when it was absolutely necessary, and even then he kept the number of his words to the bare minimum. People began to notice, but no one was brave enough to comment on it with either of you being present. Even Steve refrained from saying a word and escalating things during the mission which was a pleasant surprise.
But once you were done, he invited you for a usual farewell drink and you could feel he was about to bring it up then. Matt had already left so it was just the two of you from the team in the chosen nearby bar, therefore there was nothing that could stop him from snooping around in your business.
“What the hell happened between you and Matt? He’s being a bigger dick than usual,” he began a second after you sat down across from him with two bottles of beer.
Wow, he was truly eager to hear the details. You leaned back and took a sip of your drink as you thought about how much to tell him. “What makes you think it has anything to do with me?”
“Come on, Matt is… He’s obsessed with you, he doesn’t even try to hide it. And he mumbled something about you yesterday.”
By now you had already made up your mind. You’d soon leave anyway, why not tell him as much as you could now? Letting out a sigh, you began to tap your fingertips on the side of the cold bottle. “Alejandro is alive.” Steve’s jaw dropped when he heard this. “But obviously this has to stay between us. He contacted me soon after his alleged death because he needed help and Matt found out. We—and now you—are the only ones who know this.”
Steve raised his hand to stop you. “But that happened over a year ago, what does it have to do with anything?” he asked.
“Well, a few days ago he showed up and asked me to go with him.”
“For good?”
“Yes, for good.”
“I guess Matt’s angry because you agreed.”
Nodding, you fought back the smile that wanted to crawl on your lips. “Yeah, I think so. I’m leaving tonight. It’s so weird—I mean, I haven’t seen Alejandro in a year, and now I’m planning to move I don’t even know where with him,” you explained. He didn’t have to say a word, you knew Steve was thinking it was a strange decision as well. “I know we should take it slow, like, meeting every now and then, but at the same time I remember the time we spent together in the past.”
Steve shook his head as he took a swig of his beer. “You were planning to leave the team for him before he disappeared. Sure, you and Matt had fun, but that was never this serious. At least that’s how I saw it from the outside. I think you made the right choice,” he assured you with a smile.
“Thanks. I know it probably sounds weird since I’m leaving tonight, but I was still a bit unsure of my decision. A part of me still loves Alejandro, so I’m sure we’ll figure this out,” you told him with a smile. “Thanks for supporting me, Steve. You have no idea how much that means now.”
“I can imagine your conversations with Matt about this. I’m quite sure he didn’t make it easy for you.”
“You’re right, he didn’t,” you said quietly. “Anyway, I’m gonna miss you guys so much. We’ve been working together for so long that you’re like family. It will be hard to be away from you all.”
Steve flashed a smile at you as he raised his bottle. “Well, we’ll miss you too. I mean, I sure will. And I guess it means you’ll have to go no contact because of him. If they found out he was alive, I’m sure the CIA would send us to take care of him. And Matt would gladly do it,” he added with a sigh.
You shrugged. “I think despite everything they’re still friends. But who knows, maybe he wouldn’t hesitate this time around. Especially knowing Alejandro told me something before I talked to him.” Slowly putting his bottle back on the table, Steve gave you a questioning look. “He pointed out that Matt would never leave his wife for me. I used to be perfectly fine with what we had, but then I realized that I wanted more.”
“You want a normal relationship,” Steve finished for you. “No one can blame you for that. But what did Matt say when you pointed this out to him? Did he go ballistic?”
Letting out a thoughtful hum, you said, “Surprisingly, no. He even told me he would leave his family if I decided to stay with him. Can you believe it? He made a promise he sure as hell wouldn’t keep. I mean, what are the chances of him actually leaving them? I’ll tell you—zero.”
Even though he nodded in agreement, Steve didn’t say a word. With that you silently agreed to end the conversation about your upcoming departure, and instead you decided to help him pick up some woman for the last time while he was still here. It didn’t take long, and you had to leave anyway, so soon you were entering your motel room and sat on the edge of the bed as you waited for Alejandro to arrive.
It had been so long since you last waited for him to arrive after a tough day that you forgot about that excitement you had felt in the past. You knew things would be okay with him around, and now that you were about to leave with him for good, everything seemed to come back. Everything would make sense once he arrived, every question you had would be answered, and he would sure as hell would make you feel safe.
The knock on the door brought you out of your thoughts. With a smile you didn’t even know you had on your face, you jumped up and went to open the door for him, but once you were face to face with him, you didn’t know what to do or say.
“Can I come in?” he asked to break the silence. You nodded and immediately stepped aside. Once he was inside, Alejandro took a look at your suitcase that was right under the window. “Did you pack everything?”
You nodded again. “Yeah. I—I did. Everything I had with me. But what about my apartment? All the things I have there… What will happen to them?” you asked uncertainly.
Alejandro grabbed the handle of the suitcase and pulled it closer to his leg. “If it’s okay with you, I’ll have someone take care of that. Everything will be shipped to Colombia.”
“So that’s where we’re going?” He nodded in response. “It’s okay, but I’ll give you a list of the things I’ll need. The rest can go to a storage unit.”
“All right, I’ll take care of it when we get there,” he assured you. “Ready to go?”
“Yes.”
The two of you left the motel and you soon found yourself on the way to your new home. The last time you’d been to Colombia, the two of you were planning to spend the rest of your lives together. You could still remember the joy you felt when he revealed he was finally ready to let go of the past and move on with you.
But now? It was awkward. You hated to admit it, but everything was different. The corners of your lips instinctively curled into a smile whenever you looked at him, that didn’t change, but there was that small voice in the back of your mind which told you he was a stranger now. Who knew how much he had changed during the time he spent away from you. What was he even doing?
When you finally reached his apartment, you realized one thing hadn’t changed: he was still a minimalist. He kept the amount of furniture to the bare minimum, and there was no decoration that would give away anything about his personality or life. “You’re still now known for your interior design skill,” you joked once he locked the door.
“I like to keep things simple. But feel free to change this,” he added with a small smile.
He was trying. That was… good. “No, I—I just got here, I don’t want to change anything.”
Letting out a sigh, Alejandro stepped closer and took your hand. “This is your home now too. I want you to feel like home. Also, I think you’ll spend a lot more time here than me. Whatever you want, you’ll get it,” he said.
But this wasn’t all that good after all. “Please, don’t do this,” you asked him. Alejandro gave you a questioning look, and honestly, you couldn’t blame him. “You’re acting like things were the same as they were a year ago. But a lot of things has changed during that time. I need a little time and space, I—I need to ease back into this relationship.”
“What do you want me to do?”
“I don’t know. You shouldn’t offer to do anything I want for one. Or… I really, really don’t know,” you admitted. “Things are happening a little too fast. One day I’m on a mission with the team, and happy with… you know, and a few days later I’m already moving in with you.”
Alejandro nodded as he leaned against a nearby wall and folded his arms over his chest. “Do you want me to stay somewhere else until you get used to being here?” he asked calmly. You shook your head as you began pacing back and forth in front of him. You didn’t want him to leave, that you knew for sure. But at the same time you literally needed some space. “I have a guest room, I thought you would choose that for now,” he suddenly stated.
So he knew? Wow, he knew you better than you remembered. “That… would be great, thank you. And I’m sorry. I know the things I say don’t really make sense right now, but… Hopefully it’ll get better soon.”
“I know. I won’t rush you, don’t worry,” he said. “The room at the end of the hallway is yours. Feel free to decorate it however you want. I’ll go get some coffee nearby, if you need anything, you know my number.”
“Thank you.” You watched as he left the apartment, then grabbed your suitcase and headed to the room he mentioned. “That was awkward,” you noted to yourself when you stepped inside.
Being alone was exactly what you needed now. Just some time to think, to get used to the idea of living in a different country and having him around again. You should have known he wouldn’t push your boundaries right away. He’d always been like this, considering every little aspect of a decision like asking you to move in with him before making his move.
You put your suitcase on top of your bed, and carefully opened it to pack your things out. But what seemed to be an easy task, soon turned out to be a bit of a mystery. There was a phone—that definitely wasn’t yours—under two layers of clothing along with a handwritten note. It looked a lot like Matt’s rushed handwriting.
“I get it, you want to leave and have a fresh start with Alejandro. I don’t necessarily agree with that, but I’ll accept it,” Matt wrote in the letter. “But I don’t want you to live without a safety net. I saved my number and installed a messaging app for you, so you can contact me if anything happens. Or if you get bored. I’m sure he won’t always be there with you, so if you feel like it, just call me or send a message—I’ll answer it as soon as I can. Be safe, okay? And I’m serious, call me if you need help. I’ll go and get you, no matter where you are. I love you.”
Why did he have to make this so hard for you? Letting out a troubled sigh, you emptied the suitcase then put the phone and the note in it. You didn’t want to deal with that. You were with Alejandro. You were safe. You weren’t bored—yet. And you most definitely didn’t want to think about Matt right now. This was a new life. You had to focus on that.

A/N: Okay but this idea is so unbelievably cute?! I apologize for taking forever to get it done. I went a bit deep and overboard with the storyline on a request that is so simple and I’m pretty sure this is my longest one up to date actually BUT- it’s whatever. There’s plenty of fluff near the end, I promise. I enjoyed writing this and I hope you enjoy reading it too!! 🤍
(If this flops, I will be so sad omg)

Description: One day after having to escort Polnareff as orders from your boss, you begin to grow quite fond of him. During your usual hangouts, you jokingly offer to kiss him as a way to recreate one of your favorite fairytales.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You giggle as Jean pulls you into a kiss, you feel him smile as he holds your face gently. You’re happy to see the man you love not be as serious and hurt as he was when you first met him. Your expression reminiscent of the memories shared between you before this moment.
~A Year Before~
Your personal servant had drawn the curtains. Your eyes fluttered open, body awaken by the bright sunlight shining from your windows and murmurs outside your bedroom. You groaned in frustration as you threw a pillow at him, he managed to catch it and place it back by your bed frame. You huffed,
“Didn’t boss say I have the week off? I’m allowed to sleep in.” you stated blankly, remembering how you had the strong urge to strangle him for ruining your slumber. He shook his head as he sat by the edge of your bed and pointed at the clock that stood on top of your nightstand. You distinctly remember the screen marked 7:25AM exactly. You sighed as you thought you could’ve at least slept in by 10. You sat up and criss crossed your legs and played with the lose strings of your blanket as he replied.
“Technically you do, but today is last minute and different. Sr. Giovanna wants you to escort out a close individual he works with today by 8.”
Frustrated, you plopped your hands down onto your lap and rolled your eyes as you said back,
“Not to be bratty but...can’t he just do that himself or get one of you to do it?” you raised your pointers and middle fingers to create air quotations “This individual must be pretty important if not even the boss can take care of it.”
Your servant shut his eyes and sighed. After what you had just told him, deep down you felt bad about how much he had to deal with your bull on a daily basis- not to mention your constant grumbling in the morning whether he woke you or not. Either way, you were pretty grumpy most mornings. He shook his head again.
“It’s not that either. Sr. Giovanna could easily lead him out but he’s currently finishing business with other people in the country. Sr. Mista is with him as well so you’re the only one we have present. They both must attend all meetings, they are not to miss one.
“Okay, but that still doesn’t answer my question. What’s so important about him or her or whatever the hell they go by?”
“I’ll let you figure that out for yourself.” He said finally as he patted your bed as a way to non-verbally tell you to get ready.
You huffed when he exited the room, plopping your back down hard into the foamy mattress. You roughly grabbed at the pillow you had thrown earlier and placed it over your face, you screamed into it for a good 10 seconds.
Looking back, were you being a little too dramatic? Yes, sure- of course. It’d make anyone cringe if they were to had witnessed it though you didn’t really mind. You were still maturing anyway. You were still getting used to the life Giorno Giovanna and Guido Mista had offered and gladly given to you.
Before meeting your boss Giovanna and his right hand man Mista, you had been living life miserably at home. Though before anyone asks, no: your parents were not abusive, no: your siblings weren’t either, no: nor were your friends or teachers. You had just become very distressed with the life you were leading on. You didn’t like the person you were and were expected to become. Anxiety took over rather unexpectedly. So what did you do when you had enough? You moved on to drugs.
You were surprised to find out how easy it was for a person in their late teens to gain access towards those terrible substances. But none the less, you later learned your dealer was from the mafia known as “Passione.”
Was it dangerous for you to have figured out that information? Yes. However, you remained cautious and never told a soul...until one day you bumped into the now late capo, Bruno Bucciarati.
You were walking down your local dealing alleyway, hands in pockets and school bag still in sight. You usually dealt after school as many adults were distracted by the kids that filled up the streets. Thus making them barely notice the illegal activity going on as a large number of students would walk down alleyways as a shortcut to their home. You were swift in paying back and receiving your desired substances anyway.
All of a sudden you heard a distant call, a call out of your name. You stopped dead in your tracks and turned around to look at the direction from where the call was coming from, that’s when you saw him. He stood a few feet from you.
“I’m glad I was able to find you...my name is Bruno Bucciarati. Your parents sent me to look for you, they’ve mentioned to me that you’ve been coming home late from school lately.”
You only shrugged and completely ignored his claim. You began walking away but were stopped again when he said,
“Leaky eyed Luca deals with you, doesn’t he?”
You kept your gaze forward and your back turned away from Bruno. Turning your head slightly over your shoulder, you mumbled,
“If I say yes, will you leave me alone?”
Without having to look at him, you knew he had tilted his head when he answered.
“That depends. If you answer honestly, no trouble will occur. I’ll remain calm with you, that is a promise.”
You blinked, sighing as you kicked at the small pebbles near your feet, staring at your shoes as you thought about what he said.
You had been dealing with Luca and you knew that his business was risky. Though you didn’t care. You felt that you needed to get the drugs you wanted pronto and Luca was the only one who would give them to you quickly. You shook your head, deciding to give up as you didn’t want anyone to notice you both speaking. You turned to face him and quietly replied,
“Yes, he deals with me. He’s the provider, I’m the receiver.”
Bruno smiled, satisfied with your answer.
He followed up with informing you that Luca had been killed at a local airport and was told to investigate his death. He didn’t provide too many details as to the cause of his death but you didn’t feel like asking anyway. Bruno admitted he came to speak to you as hours prior one of your parents really did come to speak to him about your behavior. After connecting some dots, he suspected you had something to do with Luca’s death as you were not attending school and were gone for most of the day. Not to mention, your teachers had called your parents that day as well.
Luckily, he was able to clear you out as a suspect as you cooperated with him and weren’t sweaty or completely jittery. He also gave you a little talk about using drugs. He promised he wouldn’t tell your parents that you got yourself involved in that abusive life if you promised to not buy more again.
You truly felt at the time that he was the only one who understood and cared for you in just the short time you met him. Your eyes watered as you complied with Bruno, promising to do what he suggested. A promise you have held onto forever.
After some investigating of your own, you found out that it was your future boss that killed Luca. You were rather impressed than angry that he was able to kill him. You honestly believed Luca would never be caught.
Back to the day you had to escort this individual- after some more complaining and grumpy remarks towards everyone in the household, you were finally ready to meet them. Your personal servant led you to the front door. He made sure to quietly remind you to be polite.
Your attention turned to another servant walking down the stairs towards your direction. A pillow in hand with a piece of cloth covering whatever was on top it. You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion, laughing as you sarcastically remarked,
“Is this some kind of joke? It’s not April, is it?”
“No, but I guess this household treating me with the upmost respect is.”
Your eyes widen. ‘Did that thing under the cloth just speak?” you asked yourself.
The servant removed the cloth and there revealed a turtle. A turtle with a key-shaped hole embedded on its shell. You almost assumed that the turtle smirked at you when he added,
“I know, don’t be too surprised. I plan to get out of this animal once my soul decides to give up. I haven’t always looked like this, ya know.”
Your mouth gaped open as to say something, but you quickly shut it as you didn’t know how to reply. He chuckled,
“Hand me over to them, we’ll talk more when we get to my destination.”
You hesitantly took the pillow from the servant’s hands and remained in shock as you walked out the door. You were careful not to drop him as you got down to the front gates. Gulping as you asked,
“So...my servant wasn’t that specific on me having to leave you in the car or actually riding with you. It’s kind of my fault as I don’t like to listen and talk in the morning...”
You nervously laughed as he looked up to you. He replied,
“It’s quite alright. I was told you have to ride with me. But don’t worry, you won’t have to stay for long. It’s only around a 10 minute ride.”
“Yeah, okay.”
You sat behind the passenger seat and placed the pillow in the middle, right next to your side.
The ride was relatively quiet, you looked out the window as you kept a fist under your chin. Your expression showed that of concern. You were too nervous to say anything. Even though he had joked back earlier, you were afraid he didn’t like you as his voice stayed stern throughout your small talk. You were afraid you had offended him in some way.
Your mood changed when the driver alerted that you had arrived. You thanked him as he opened the door for you, your hands grasped the pillow tightly so the talking turtle wouldn’t fall. You asked him with a small voice.
“Is there anywhere you’d like for me to set you?”
“Yes... put me on top of that balcony over there. I want to look at the lake.”
“Of course.”
You did as he said and sat him on the balcony. Your eyes gleamed when you caught sight of the glimmering water and greenery of the setting. You’ve always known that Italy is one of the most beautiful places in the world but at that time you had forgotten and were fascinated all over again. Like when a child sees a playground for the first time.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” he asked, you nodded.
“Yes, it really is. It’s no wonder you asked me set you on here.”
“Yes... I wanted to look at one more beautiful sight before I go. Like I said earlier, my soul is no longer fit to be here, so I might as well admire my surroundings for now.”
Your mind quickly became curious after he said that. You wanted to know more behind what he meant. You weren’t going back to that car until you got answers. So to make things easy, you started off with asking his name.
“If you don’t mind... would you like to tell me your name?”
“It’s Jean. Jean Pierre Polnareff.”
‘So he’s French.’ you remember thinking, his accent wasn’t too thick but you assumed and your assumption was right. After that, you went on to tell him your name and your experiences before meeting boss Giorno Giovanna. He shared the same with you.
You talked for so long in fact that you paid off the driver of your assigned car to go back and finish his shift early, promising them that you’ll find a ride later yourself.
You ended off the chatty night with placing Jean under a nearby bench and waving at him. You were saddened but Jean said he enjoyed your company so much that he’ll try to stay for longer and that you’re welcome to come him visit him everyday.
And so you did.
For months you came by to talk to him. You were happy to see that his soul wasn’t giving up yet- you knew you would cry if it were to one day. You had come to realize that you love him but you didn’t know if he felt the same way about you. You had only seen his face once- that was the day he decided to show you the physical embodiment of his soul.
You thought (and still think) he was so beautiful. The missing of bottom limbs and blindness in one eye did not bother you at all. His white-silver hair, style and personality is what did it for you. What it did to make you fall in love with his vanity and him. Just him. Jean himself.
~A Year Later~
It’s been a year now and as per usual, you spent half your days speaking to Jean by that same lake you were ordered to drive him to.
Boss Giovanna and Mista have noticed how fast you are in missions since then. They appreciate that you get things done but they still remain curious as to why you’re more happy and less grumpy than you were before. Though they don’t bother to ask, as they’re kind and don’t want to ruin your pure joy.
Today isn’t particularly different. All you had done earlier in the day was speak to a few citizens in town and dealt with giving details to your boss about a certain drug epidemic at a school. Nothing too out of the ordinary, a situation like this occurred at your old school too years back. Your duties were basically done once you learned information got to police.
You drive down to the park where the lake is at, smiling when you see a familiar small green circle on the balcony, looking over the glimmering waters. You park in the nearest lot and lock your car after getting out. You excitedly run over to Jean and smile when he turns his little head to greet you.
“I’m glad you’ve come again.” he says with a smile.
“Of course, why wouldn’t I?” you reply in a genuine tone.
You go on to talk about random topics and subjects as you always do. The conversation moving onto favorite pieces of literature and genres.
You roll your eyes in embarrassment as you tell him your most favorite one- one that is a fairytale and goes by the name of “The Frog Prince.”
“Well... it’s very fem of me but I really enjoy fairytales. Especially the ones from the Grimm brothers. My favorite is actually “The Frog Prince”
You place your elbow on the rail and use a hand to cover your burning cheek. Hoping that the redness rushing to your face won’t be noticed by Jean and that the sunset covers it up. Jean only laughs and hopes to comfort you when he says,
“Oh, that’s fine. Who cares if it’s feminine? They’re very well written stories and people shouldn’t be ashamed for what they like. I admire that your favorite genre is fairytale, you don’t hear people say that as often, you know?”
His words do comfort you and you thank him for that. He welcomes you and you feel like you’re actually looking into his sapphire eyes. The ones you fell in love with so long ago. You speak up before you’re even able to fully think.
“Say, the frog prince and the princess kissing, huh? Why don’t we kiss and see if it turns you back?”
Shit.
‘Did I really just ask that?’ you ask yourself ‘What the actual hell is wrong with you?!”
“I don’t see why not...”
“Huh?”
You’re stunned. You thought he would get offended for spurting out such a stupid thing. Of course your request won’t work- that shit is from a story book. It’s pure fiction. This is real life.
He’s a turtle now and you’re a human. You can’t and you won’t kiss him. You raise your hands up in defense.
“Hey, no! No need to play along after saying something so stupid to make me feel better. I just blurted that out I’m so sorry-“
“No, it’s okay. And I’m not playing along, I’m being serious. Go ahead. I’ve grown to like you a lot, a small kiss wouldn’t hurt.”
This answer is not what you expected. You nervously fiddle with your fingers as you look around. You sigh as you give in.
“Fine. I like you a lot too and I’ll do it. Let me just-“
You lift up the top half of Jean, his front turtle legs up in the air and his little face staring up at you. You take a deep breath and close your eyes, you slowly lean in and- kiss✨
The turtle falls out of your grasp. You stop puckering your lips and open your eyes. In a panicked state, you frantically look over the balcony and both sides of you to find him. You look forward and gasp. You grab at the railings to hold you steady.
There sits a groaning man on his knees. He rubs at his neck as he silently curses to himself, blinking fast and harshly as he tries to understand what’s going on around him. It’s dark now but the moon shines bright enough for you to get a better glimpse of him. You furrow your eyebrows as you slowly recognize who he is- Jean.
He has that same white-silver hair, sapphire eyes, big stature though the only difference is no eye glass in sight and his “legs” aren’t made out of metal.. they’re completely real. Flesh and all and you know that blood flows right through them like the rest of his body.
“J-Jean?” you whisper.
The man doesn’t hear you. All he does is groan and cross his legs in front of him. He stretches his arms and looks over any possible injuries on him.
“Jean.” you say again, louder this time.
He finally looks up at you. And there they are, those sapphire eyes you love so much. That face you’ve grown to be so fond off. His expression more than surprised. Though that expression quickly changes and softens- his eyes crease and a small smile appears. He says your name. And you tear up after he does.
He attempts to get up but his legs give up on him. You sprint to his side before he falls, letting him use your shoulders as support. He blushes.
“I’m sorry... I haven’t had real legs in years. Apparently I forgot how to use them...”
His voice is softer than before, the sternness isn’t there. He sounds younger almost. You giggle, as you use a hand to wipe at the tears of your eyes.
“Okay, I think I can stand now. Let go of me so I can look at you fully.”
You do as he says and as you watch him wobble, you reach out to help again but he shakes his head, waving your hands off as he’s able to maintain balance. You grin proudly when he does.
Jean turns to face you, he clasps your hands together and brings them up to his lips. You blush as he proceeds to hold them over his heart. He looks at you with pure love in his eyes.
“Thank you. Thank you so much. What you suggested was silly but it worked.”
“Yes, you’re welcome...” you say softly, looking down. He makes you look up again.
“You’re the one, my love. You always have been and always will be. My feelings for you started when we first met, I meant what I said. I have grown to like you a lot though it’s more than “like”- it’s love. And I’m so happy to know you feel the same way.”
You tear up at this and hug him. He hugs you back and you can’t believe that he does.
The turtle is no more and you have your true love back to human form.
He raises your chin up with his thumb and pointer, he kisses you and you kiss him back. The kiss long and meaningful.
You’re happy to know that the man you love, loves you too.
hi :’’) i love ur blog so much!!!! can i request some random fluffy headcanons/lil scenarios of what a relationship with haruichi, ryou, and miyuki would be like? maybe childhood friend for miyuki only? ;v; i just feel like hes the type to go after his childhood friend lol
Falling for a childhood friend
⤷Includes: Ryousuke, Haruichi, Miyuki
Warnings: brief mentions of death, lil bit angsty
A/n: Hello lovely! It makes me so happy to hear you're enjoying the blog 🤧 I've already done dating hcs for both Ryou and Haruichi so I decided to include them in the falling for childhood friend req, I hope you don't mind! Also I don't know what happened with Miyooks, I threw in his mom as a small detail but then it turned slightly angsty
----------------------------------------------------------
Ryousuke
Please, Ryou has been introducing you as his s/o since he was 8 years old
You lived across the street from the Kominatos and being the same age as Ryou your parents set up play dates frequently when you were younger
Initially Ryou would tease you alot by tugging on your hair and occasionally shoving you
But when other kids on the street started to bully you and push you around like he did, Ryou defended you with his life
Only he was allowed to bully you 😤
One day he just casually asked you out while lying on the grass in his backyard
You were kids so you didn't fully understand relationships
You liked Ryou, he protected you and was kind so that was enough reasoning for you to accept
You were "dating" the last few years of elementary school
When you started junior high you were a bit confused on if your relationship was actually serious because it began from an innocent question on Ryousuke's part
Was he actually seriously considering you his s/o? Or was this just a silly thing the two of you had kept going for too long?
When you asked him this he looked at you like you'd grown two heads
"I asked you out didn't I?"
"Yes but we were barely 8 at the time. You couldn't have actually been serious."
"I wouldn't have asked if I wasn't serious. My feelings for you haven't changed, if anything I'm probably more in love with you now then I was then."
"O-Oh"
To prove his point he kissed you on the lips for the first time
(and then he made fun of how flustered you looked)
Anyways
When Ryou told you he was going to Seidou you were heart broken. You were already confirmed to attend a local highschool meaning he'd be in a completely different city from you for the next three years
The last thing Ryousuke wanted was to break up with you. You were probably the only person he had met that he considered as important as his family, it'd be even more painful for the both of you if he broke off your relationship before leaving
You eventually settled on calling each other every night to talk and then Video chat every other Saturday
Ryousuke would sneak off during dinner to avoid his teammates eavesdropping on your conversations
He ended up missing you alot more than he thought he would so he looks forward to your nightly calls all day
He's extremely happy whenever you take the train to Tokyo to watch one of his games
After the game he always meets up with you and sneaks away from the team so you could watch the next game together
He also looks for a secluded area to just hug you for 5 minutes straight because wOW did he miss being able to hold you!
Haruichi
Haruichi was so close with Ryou when they were younger and spent most of his free time following him around so the two of you most likely met at school
Haruichi wasn't the best at putting himself out there to make friends in elementary school. He was a bit too timid to approach anyone so he usually kept to himself or sat with his teacher when the class was given free time
Until one day you just sat down next to him and started talking
He was too shy to tell you to go away and he'd be lying if he said he didn't like having a friend to be with, so he let you pull him over to a different table to draw together
By the end of that day the two of you were inseparable
Haruichi was honestly sO excited to have a friend that wasn't one of Ryou's! Sweet boy went home and told his mom all about you
Fast forward to junior high and you're still best friends
It's actually during junior high that the two of you somehow get even closer as Ryou left to attend Seidou leaving Haruichi alone back home in Kanagawa
The two of you spent almost every free moment you had together and Haruichi started to find a different sort of comfort around you
He doesn't even know what triggered it, he just suddenly realized how cute you looked and ever since then his chest would get all tight and he'd have the constant feeling of butterflies in his stomach when around you
Ironically everyone thought the two of you were already a couple, including his parents who once asked how his date with you was to which he had to stutter out an explanation with a bright red face
In your finale year of junior high, Haruichi decided he had to confess at some point. The uncertainty of where he'd be going for highschool was hanging over him like a nasty rain cloud, and with how he was leaning more and more towards running off to Tokyo each day, he knew he couldn't just leave without telling you how he felt
So one day while the two of you were studying in his room he just couldn't hold it in anymore and told you everything
You immediately told him that you were harboring the same feelings he was and encouraged him to go peruse baseball at Seidou
It felt like a weight was lifted off his shoulders when you said that. He pulled you into a tight hug and hid his face in you shoulder as he muttered out thank yous
The day Haruichi left for Seidou you could tell he was torn between being disappointed about leaving you and being excited to open a new door of possibilities at the prestigious school
You sent him off with a kiss on the cheek promising to come visit sometime
What Haruichi didn't know is that your "visit" would be happening way sooner than he thought
A few months prior you had sent an application to Seidou and remarkably you were accepted!
Haruichi was significantly gloomy on the first day of classes. For the first time in over 10 years you wouldn't be sitting in the desk in front of his. He didn't think he'd feel so lonely this quickly, but here he was staring out the window desperately wishing you were here to ramble on about a videogame or what your mom had packed in your bento
The look on his face was priceless when you walked into his classroom and pulled a chair up to his desk like you'd usually do
"W-what are you doing here?!"
"I go to school here silly! Anyways, I started a show last night that we HAVE to watch together!"
Unsurprisingly the two of you were still attached at the hip while at Seidou
Although, Ryou seemed to find great pleasure in teasing the both of you now that you were in his proximity. He always took the time to send you knowing smiles or bops on the head when he passed the both of you in the halls
Miyuki
You lived relatively close to Miyuki but knew him more so due to the fact that your father worked at his dad's steel mill
When Miyuki's mom was still around she was always offering to watch you while you parents worked, so the two of you were kind of forced to become friends from your constant presence at his house
Those early days of friendship were spent in the kitchen with Miyuki gushing about baseball, pointing out cool plays and explaining the game to you while his mother cooked you both lunch
He'd also drag you and his mother to a park near by so the two of you could play catch together
(his mom would often have to remind him that sometimes you didn't want to play catch and to let you decide what the two of you should do)
When his mom died you slowly saw the effect it had on him
Miyuki lost the cheerful innocence he carried when he'd explain baseball games in his homes small kitchen. He became a little more closed off; a little less bright
There were days you would stop by to check in on him only to find Kazuya curled up on his bed clutching a scarf his mother had made him to his chest
He didn't cry, not once. Instead your friend became an empty vessel, a shell of what he formally was
Slowly his old cheery attitude would shine occasionally when making jokes or teasing you, a small crack in the calculative demeanor he kept up
Those small appearances of light-hearted behavior were your only reassurance he was still the same little boy you initially knew
Since his mothers death you took it upon yourself to be that little spark of light that seemed to have dimmed inside him
You pulled him to the park to play catch, encouraged him to continue being a catcher, you even helped manage your schools team so you could keep him company
You also became accustomed to carrying band-aids with you. Miyuki was a small kid for his age and had a habit of pissing off his upperclassmen which never ended well
When it came time to choose highschools Miyuki made it clear that you didn't have to follow him to Seidou to keep him company
He was going for baseball, making friends wasn't his top priority anyways
In the end you still went to Seidou with him (which secretly he was very grateful for, he felt better knowing you'd be there for him and vice versa)
I feel like Miyuki would unknowingly have had a crush on you for years but never realized it. He just played it off as you being his childhood friend
you knew him better than he knew himself so of course he'd feel this comforting love towards you!
Boy is his world turned upside down when Kuramochi asks him how long the two of you have been dating
He'd never considered seeing you in a romantic light but now the thoughts of holding you to his chest or kissing your nose WONT. LEAVE.
He becomes very awkward and goes through a mini crisis everytime he sees you
This would go on for a few weeks but everything seemed to peak after the summer tournament
You'd just gotten back with the rest of the managers and immediately went off to find Miyuki
He was in the dinning hall already watching their game against Inashiro when you found him. It was pretty late so the hall was empty asides from the two of you
When you walked over to him he just silently pulled you down to sit on his lap, propping his chin on your shoulder so he could continue reviewing the game. In return you ran your fingers through his hair
Kazuya would never admit he was upset with how the game turned out, but you could tell he was torn up from the outcome
Everything about this moment seemed to make his feelings boil over. He moved his head from your shoulder and stared you down
"I'm in love with you"
"About time you admitted it, dumbass!"
He pinched your side in retaliation, laughing as you slapped his hand away
And then he kissed you ♥️
Part 8
You have been back in New York a couple of weeks now. You had spent a few days recovering, at the word of Tony Stark, your boss, and then took on a few small jobs. They were jobs that didn't require you for more than few hours.
Standing outside nightclubs, escorting an official to a meeting, being present at an event. Nothing major like protecting a Baron from a group of individuals who wanted him dead.
If you were being quite honest, you were missing that assignment. You were missing him.
These little jobs were starting to feel dull. A part of you wondered if it was because you were worried. How were you suppose to carry on when you knew there were dangerous people out there?
Somehow, you just did.
Then one day things changed. You turned up at the headquarters at Stark's request. Everyone else was still stationed in Sokovia for the time being. You were beginning to miss them.
You check your suit out before entering the office, wanting to look your best for your boss. It always made you feel good to look good when working.
You knock on the door.
"Come in."
You enter the office and close the door behind you. Tony Stark is sitting at his desk. He had just got off the phone as you entered.
"Take a seat."
You sit down.
Tony places a folder in front of you on his desk. He sits back in his chair, links his fingers together, and looks at you.
You look at the folder, then at him.
"Open it."
You pull the folder open slowly and look down at the page in front of you. Now you were just confused. In front of you was a photo of Baron Helmut Zemo. The page looked pretty much the same as fine report you got last time.
You look up at Stark.
"What is this?"
"A job."
"You want me back on the assignment?" You ask, looking at him.
Tony shakes his head slowly.
"Read it."
You look down at the report and read it. The more you read, the more confused you became. The details were vague.
I, Helmut Zemo, request the presence of Y/N L/N at Castle Zemo, Novi Grad, Sokovia, immediately. Please note, they may refuse the invite and remain situated in New York.
He was asking for you.
You look back at Tony Stark. His expression doesn't give anything away as he remains seated in the same position looking at you.
"He is asking for me?"
"Yes."
"He wants me back on the assignment?"
"Maybe. I don't know. All I received was that file and strict instructions to show it to you."
You look back at the file.
"You can refuse."
You look at the Baron's name on the top of the page.
Helmut Zemo.
Was he giving you a second chance because he felt bad? The thought made your heart flutter.
You look up at Stark.
"I'll do it. I'll go."
Tony's expression doesn't change. You can't tell if he's happy about it or not. He just shrugs.
"Alright. I'll organise the flight."
He dismisses you right after that. You take the file and return to your room. So many thoughts are running through your head. Your should still ached, but you were confident you could go back and do the hob again.
You would happily take another bullet for him.
The very next day you were on the plane to Sokovia. Tony Stark saw you off himself and you sent a message ahead to your friends.
You: I'm coming back. The Baron has requested me.
You couldn't wait. You wanted to see them all, assure them you were fine, and most of all, find out why the Baron had sent out an invite like that.
You wanted to see him again.
The photo doesn't do him any justice. To understand just how fine of a man he is, you need to see him with your own eyes. It was incredibly unprofessional of you to be having such thoughts, but you couldn't help it.
The Baron is a very handsome man.
It was late in the day when you arrived. You had sent a message ahead to tell your friends what time you would be landing. Steve had replied to assure you the Baron was sending a car to pick you up.
Apparently, he had wanted to come get you himself, the Baron that is, but was too busy rearranging the meetings he was suppose to attend over the past couple of weeks.
Knowing that information made something within you stir.
The plane lands, you get your suitcase, and you head outside to find a sleek black car waiting for you. Bucky climbs out of the car with Steve and you hug them both, happy to be back.
Bucky takes your suitcase and Steve opens the door for you. You find it funny the way they are treating you.
"I'm not the Baron, you know."
"We know," Steve replies.
He doesn't say any more on the matter and gets back into the drivers seat. Bucky sits in the passenger seat and smiles at you over his shoulder. You get comfortable in the back.
"We are glad to see you back at work," Bucky says, smiling at you again.
"It's good to be back."
"Stark said he sent you on some small jobs."
"Yeah. They felt rather dull compared to what we have been through," you laugh softly.
"We've missed you," Steve says.
You smile.
"The Baron has missed you too," Bucky tells you.
You furrow your brow at him.
"He has?"
Bucky nods.
The Baron must really feel bad for the way he was with you. Everything indicates he was sorry. From him getting out of the car to check on you when you had been shot, to visiting you in the hospital, and now inviting you back to his estate.
You felt rather giddy.
The car pulls up the familiar drive with the bare garden and comes to a stop. Steve stops you from getting out on your own and opens your door for you.
You just roll your eyes.
Bucky grabs your suitcase and the two of them lead the way inside. They takes you up to Zemo's office, where Bucky then parts ways with you and leaves you with Steve.
Steve knocks on the door.
"Enter."
Steve opens the door and steps inside first. He steps off to the side and let's you enter after him.
"Y/N has arrived, sir."
Helmut looks up from the file he had been reading rather quickly. He stares at you.
Just as stunning as he remembered you.
"Leave us."
Steve nods and closes the door behind him.
Helmut stands up from his desk and gestures to the chair opposite him. You walk over and take a seat, looking at him.
He hasn't looked away once since you entered.
"I'm glad to see you have recovered," he says, starting off.
"Yes, it took some time, but I'm alright. Thank you for inviting back onto the assignment, sir."
He had discovered just how much he hated hearing you call him that. He wanted to hear his name fall from your lips, but even when he had requested it last time, you had said no.
"It is my pleasure, though I haven't officially put you back onto the team yet. I have a proposal for you," he says, sitting back down.
"Oh?"
Helmut pulls out a couple of pieces of paper that been stapled together. He sets them down in front of you and gestures to them.
You could tell it was a contract.
You pick them up and look at them. Silence settles over you both as you read.
He waits with bated breath.
When you have read the terms you look back up at him with a confused glint in your eye.
"This contract..."
"Yes."
"You want me to be your personal bodyguard?"
"Yes."
"To leave Stark Industries and work for you?"
"Yes."
You look at the contract again. He was asking for your employment, not just hiring you from your current status, but to be his personal bodyguard.
"You can refuse and I'll have you sent home immediately."
Though he didn't want that. He wanted you to stay. He knew, after that day, that in tour hands his life was safe. He also knew that deep down he didn't want to be parted from you.
Zemo didn't want to call it a crush, but there was definitely something brewing. He liked you, he really did. It was more than just a crush for him. He wanted to know you and he didn't know any other way to get that other than employ you.
You would be living here, working here, every day.
"The contract would be effective immediately," he tells you.
"What about Stark? He would have to know."
"Well, of course. Would you rather phone him before making a decision?" He offers you the phone sitting on the desk.
"May I?"
"Please."
You set the contract down and pick up the phone.
Helmut sits back in his chair and waits, watching and listening. His heart was hammering away in his chest.
The conversation over the phone is short. You glance up at him several times, agreeing a lot to whatever Stark was saying down the phone. Helmut tried his best not to let it show just how eager he was to hear what was happening.
You agree once more before hanging up the phone.
You look at Zemo.
He sits up straighter in his chair, looking at you with curious brown eyes.
You smile.
God, your smile was a beautiful sight, and you were smiling at him!
"Do you have a pen?" You ask.
That wasn't quite what he was expecting to hear, but he nods and takes a pen from his desk, handing it over to you. You take it from his hand, your fingers brushing against his. You didn't seem to notice, be he did.
He lowers his hand slowly as he watches you sign the contract.
Rather uncharacteristically he wanted to jump from his seat, smiling and cheering, but resists. You have no idea how happy you had just made him.
He remains composed.
You put the pen down and slide the contract back over to him, smiling.
"It's my pleasure to be your bodyguard, sir. I am glad to know you have faith in my skills to do such a job."
He smiles.
Helmut holds his hands out and you take it, shaking it firmly.
He was holding your hand. His heart was having a rave.
You let go.
He feels the loss immediately. Your hand fit so perfectly in his, he felt it belonged in his grasp.
Why am I thinking about you like this?
You stand up and straighten your tie.
"Permission to go get settled before I officially start working?" You ask.
"Permission granted. I shall see you later." He had no idea how he had kept his voice so calm.
You nod and take your leave.
Once the door closes behind you, Helmut drips his face into his hands and leans against his desk using his elbows.
You worked for him now.
He would see you every day.
Every day he would have to pretend he was falling for your charm. You had no idea the affect you had on this man and it was driving him crazy.
Would he be feeling this way if you hadn't saved his life? He had no idea.
All he did know was that he was over the moon you had taken the job.
If he could help it, he would keep you out of harm's way. That might be difficult considering the circumstances, but he never wanted to see you hurt like that again.
He still saw it in his nightmares.
You made your way to your given room. You would be staying here from now on. You would make it your own in due time.
You sat on the bed and smiled.
His own personal bodyguard. You had more than proved your worth.
You were proud of yourself.
Thank you, Baron.
You just had just break it to your friends. Speaking of, Bucky was standing in your doorway looking at you.
"What's on your mind?" He asks, smiling softly.
"Something happened."
For a moment he looks concerned and enters your room.
"What happened?"
You smile as you look at him.
"He hired me."
"I figured he would, that's why he invited you back, right?"
"No, he hired me. I work for him now. I signed his contract. I'm the personal bodyguard of Baron Zemo."
Bucky stands in silence for a moment. You can see him trying to work it out in his mind.
"He hired you as his personal guard?"
"Yes."
Bucky smiles.
"The man is so in love with you, oh my god!"
You stare at him wide eyed.
"He is not!"
"He definitely is," Bucky grins.
"Is not! It just means I proved myself. He doubted me and I showed him I could do it. Feel proud for me."
He smiles softly.
"I am proud, but I'm also not joking. I think he likes you. Zemo missed you while you were gone, and he had been cold and mean after finding out you had been sent home."
You shake your head softly.
"Coincidence. He had been attacked, he has every right to be cold and mean again."
"Y/N, listen to me. He missed you."
You shake your head again and stand up.
"You're delusional. He just trusts me. This does mean we are only colleagues while you're here."
Bucky sighs softly.
"That's a shame, but I'm proud of you. This is a big deal."
"Yeah, it is."
Bucky hugs you before making his leave. He was going to let Steve know about what happened.
You let him go.
You're not sure why, but you had an inkling things were about to change. Something was going to happen and you were going to be happy.
Perhaps it was because you were starting a new chapter of your life here in Sokovia.
Bodyguard to the Baron, what an honour!
I am not your enemy - Lance fanfiction part 8
This is the chapter of which I had published an excerpt the very first time, so here’s finally the full version ! This is one of my favorites, I hope this will also be the case for you 💕
(Link for Chapter 9 here)
Chapter 8 : Your powers are still there
The door slammed shut and I felt Lance's large body pass near me, brushing my arm nonchalantly as it passed. My stomach contracted in apprehension.
I had most likely just interrupted him during a workout because, without ever completely turning his back on me, he grabbed a towel and quickly wiped his abdomen before putting on some of his armor, completely covering his neck and chest.
- Are you afraid that I will try to attack you from behind again ? I said ironically to see him cover himself like this, especially the back of his neck.
The dragon smirked at my remark. He stole a glance at me as he finished covering himself.
- You know very well that it is you who would gain the most to protect yourself in my presence rather than the other way around, he replied as naturally as possible. If I wanted to, I could have killed you in the market place without anyone seeing anything.
Good.
- It's just that I never completely remove my armor in the presence of another person, just a matter of habit, he explained to me then.
An ironic pout on his lips, he added :
- And indeed, I understood that you were rather unpredictable, as a girl. I prefer to avoid the risk of attacks in the back.
- At least I'm making an impression, I continued in the same vein. Should I also fear for my survival by leaving the door closed ?
My question was meant to be amused, but his indecipherable gaze still gave me a slight doubt.
- For you to see if you decide to trust me or not, I could completely lie to you by telling you that you do not fear anything here.
Where was he, the sensible little smile to accompany this kind of thinking ?
- But you came on your own, so I take it you know what you're doing, he finally concluded.
If he knew how much I had no idea...
I looked away to observe the room around me (and potentially discreetly analyze my chances of running away from here in the event of a life or death story), never having had the opportunity to see in which type of place Lance could live well. Another detail ends up intriguing me. The room was really ... sober. Other than a bed, all kinds of weapons and armor, and a few books, the room showed no particular sign of singularity. Having probably noticed that I was inspecting his lair with my eyes, Lance explained to me with a shrug :
- I don't particularly like wasting my time settling somewhere, I have relatively few personal effects.
Much more than its sobriety, I was also surprised to realize that the room was perfectly tidy. Having arrived unexpectedly, it would have been normal to find even two or three things that were out of place, but nothing seemed to hang around despite my research.
- Why don't you like to settle down ? I asked him, genuinely curious to know his way of seeing things.
My question seemed to catch him off guard too, for he seemed to be trying to find his words for a moment.
- I just think I never really had a home.
I turned to observe him. Looking thoughtful, he didn't seem to have noticed me.
- I've always migrated quite a bit, and even if it's not the first time I've moved somewhere for a long time like here, I prefer not to get too attached to a place and be free to leave when I want. Moreover, as a warrior, you have to know how to be ready for any eventuality and not get too attached to such trivial things.
I pondered his words as silence fell between us. Lance really had a knack for turning everything into drama.
Or the bombastic.
- But every good warrior must have a home waiting for him somewhere, right ?
- When you have one, probably yes. But what connects me to this place is not one of them.
I thought back to what I had been told about Lance's return to custody. His need to redeem himself was probably the only thing holding him back here. The memories in that place were probably going to hurt more than anything to him. He had suffered a real emotional shock, even though he had totally sought it out.
- I think I understand what you mean, I started cautiously. Me neither, I don't really have a home anymore, with the difference that I already had one. When I got to Eldarya, I lost everything else. Everything that made Earth home to me.
Memories of arriving here flooded through my head, especially the potion Miiko had forced me to drink soon after. It was clearly not glorious, but at least it had made it a little less difficult for me to accept this forced new start.
- I finally managed to recreate a semblance of home here, but then...
Seeing that I did not continue my sentence, the dragon deduced it for me.
- I pushed you to sacrifice yourself and lose everything once again.
His words were harsh, brittle, yet he let no emotion betray his face. He pursed his lips as if to keep from adding something. I was confused.
- Yes, I breathed so low I doubted he heard me.
- Look, I'm not going to apologize again. If that's what you're here for, you can leave, nothing is holding you back and certainly not me.
His jaws were twitching as he spoke, which irritated me in turn.
- I'm not here tonight to blame you or try to make you apologize, so you don't need to make those kinds of threats to me. And I'm a big girl, know that if I want to leave I don't need your approval.
- We at least agree on this point.
It was my turn to cringe. Damn, why was he being so rude again ?
- I'm glad to see that you still have your bad temper anyway, I said bitterly.
He gave a sharp laugh that made my hair stand on end.
- People don't change fundamentally, Andraste. They each evolve in their own way, but their nature remains the same. Remember that living in redemption doesn't change who I am.
- So you're telling me that all the nice words I've been hearing about you for weeks are wrong ?
- That's not what I'm saying and I don't know what you've been told about me. Anyway, I don't want to know, even if I have my little idea about it.
- Oh, but I don't doubt that, no. You have to believe that you did a good job of putting everyone in your pocket.
I could see his jaws twitching sharply under his tanned skin.
- That's not what you think, Andraste.
- I thought you had nothing to do with what I thought ?
- Do not distort my words.
- So you have something to do with it ?
- That's not what I said either, stop playing it.
I put my fingers over my eyes, trying to calm the anger rising in me. He might be working for Eldarya's good now, but other than that he definitely hadn't changed. Lance might have been calmer and more thoughtful than before, but he still remained the same to some extent. It all reminded me too much of Ashkore.
- Look, I don't even know why I decided to come see you here, but what is certain is that it was a mistake. We are definitely not meant to get along, you and me.
Pissed off and frustrated, I headed for the door to leave this stuffy place, when his hand grabbed my forearm and stopped my gesture.
- Andraste, calm down.
I didn't answer. I just waited for him to make up his mind to let go of me, still turning my back on him.
- You still haven't told me why you came here, he continued.
- I already told you, I had no particular reason, so let me go please. I thought you won't hold me back.
- I won't hold you back when you explain it to me.
His tone was dry, but nonetheless he pulled gently on my arm to push me to face him. With our sleeves rolled up, this was the first time our two bare skins had touched each other, the dragon usually always wearing gloves, and that contact felt like pricking my skin. Feeling a strange sensation arise in me, I finally unwrapped everything for him, trying to hold back my tears of frustration in the process.
- I feel lost, Lance. I feel like I have to start all over again, except this time around, a chasm seems to separate me from those I already knew. I am tired, my body can no longer keep up. And I feel ...
I looked for a moment at his hand, which was still holding my forearm firmly, the paleness of my skin contrasting sharply with the tanned complexion of his, before looking up at him.
- Incomplete, I finally concluded. I feel like my body needs to regain its powers, but I can't.
Lance observed me for a long time before lowering his eyes in turn.
- Look.
I followed his movement to discover a soft light escaping from my palm held between us. I was speechless.
- How...
My voice stopped. Why were my powers awakening at this precise moment? Since that famous training with him, I had tried several times to use them again, but each of my attempts had resolutely turned out to be luck.
Lance's fingers grew colder and colder and soon, faint streaks of ice appeared on my skin and descended to the heat source in the palm of my hand. When the two elements met, I felt an incredible force spread in me and with the same impulse, the light which escaped from my extremity suddenly burst a bluish color. My hand and arm were almost completely covered in ice, but yet I only felt a slight chill run through me.
He released the pressure on my arm before sliding his fingers until finally let go of me. When the contact between our skins broke, my light flickered for a moment before disappearing. No more sign of magic marked my numb member.
- Your powers are still there, Andraste.
He paused before adding :
- And obviously, they seem to react to mine.
I didn't understand exactly where he was going.
- To react to yours, what do you mean by that?
The dragon had let go of me, but he still didn't back down. His large build blocked my view, I only saw him.
- I don't know exactly, I’ve never had this kind of reaction before. But aengels and dragons have a rather complicated common past, that would explain some events like this one.
I thought back to the fight Leiftan and I had faced him seven years ago. Our powers had as it were merged that day. I thought this only happened because we were both aengels, but was it possible between beings of different origins ?
- Have you ever heard of people merging their powers? I inquired, nervous at the thought of his answer which I certainly wasn't going to like.
His gaze remained impenetrable.
- Apart from Leiftan and you, no, not that I know of. But our races being extinct, we know very little about these kinds of facts.
A memory came back to me then.
- And Fáfnir, he could tell us more !
Lance didn't move but I felt him imperceptibly tighten, which made me anguish. I asked the question that nagged me cautiously.
- Something wrong with Fáfnir ?
He seemed to hesitate to answer me for a moment, but finally spoke, his tone heavy.
- Andraste ... he breathed in contrition and I thought I saw a few sparks of ice escaping from his lips. Memoria is gone, he said, and the dragon's eye too.
I was speechless in amazement. He gave me a few seconds to digest the information before continuing cautiously.
- We don't know where the dragon souls are at the moment. Shortly before you woke up, quite a few unexplained events like this happened. Fáfnir is ... nowhere to be found, let's say.
For the first time, the man's gaze in front of me seemed to waver slightly. The dragon never let it show, but yet I knew it disturbed him more than he made it seem.
- Lance ...
- It's not important, he cut me coldly. We will inevitably find them eventually but for the moment, we cannot count on the knowledge of Fáfnir. However, I would like to know one thing.
I looked at him questioningly.
- How come my ice didn't do anything to you? You didn't seem to feel the cold.
I was taken aback. Granted, only Lance was the only one who really knew what was happening to my body after seeing the miraculous healing of my wound, and my unexplained blood loss, but I hadn't told him all the details I had. had counted on keeping for myself.
- It's probably because of this merging of powers thing, nothing more, I argued with a shrug that wanted to be nonchalant. We do not yet know anything about this phenomenon after all.
Unsurprisingly, the young man did not seem entirely convinced by my answer. He was definitely a formidable adversary, even in areas other than combat. It was my luck.
Cautiously, he moved closer to me, his gaze fixed on mine.
- So, you know if you trust me?
Getting a little closer, he lifted his hands and slowly directed them to my neck, probably giving me time to decide whether or not to let him.
- Let me try something, he whispered to me.
Cradled by the calm tone of his voice, I let his hands reach the thin skin that covered my neck. His long, slender fingers encircled the entire back of my neck, he barely touched me, as if he was afraid that I would push him away. I plunged my questioning gaze into his, his gaze totally focused on his task, when the tingling sensation I'd had earlier on his touch began again, this time where his hands covered me in.
His concentrated face was now tilted so close to mine that I only had to whisper for him to hear my question.
- What are you doing ?
I suddenly felt the same streaks of ice run through my skin. Rising to the bottom of my face, they marked my skin with a slight tickle. Despite everything, I only felt a small sensation of cold.
Lance smirked weakly.
- Breath, he intimated in a deep voice.
Without really knowing why he was asking me to do this, I still breathed weakly into the small space between us. It was then that with amazement, I observed light crystals of ice escaping from my mouth, until gradually transforming into a sort of bluish flame. I widened my eyes at this phenomenon, it was his dragon fire !
His smile widened then.
- A real little ice dragon.
A light expression floated on his face as he gently removed his hands from my neck, removing the last traces of ice that covered me. Slowly, he pulled away from me as well, putting a distance of convenience between us.
I was obsessed with the feeling of fierce power that had invaded me for a brief moment. So that was the strength of the dragons? This feeling of invincibility so primitive. I understood better why they were so formidable, when I had yet tasted only a tiny part of his powers.
- How did you do that? It was amazing!
The latter observed me, his face suddenly slightly serious.
- To be honest, I didn't think it would work. This is the first time that I have tried to impart some of my power to someone else, I didn't even know it was possible.
We both watched each other silently in the stillness of the room, each realizing the extent of the communion of our respective powers.
And it was ... almost scary, to be honest.
The dragon's voice finally broke our silence.
- Andraste, I will advise you not to tell anyone about this phenomenon for the moment, I do not yet know what that could imply.
I nodded without batting an eyelid, I totally agreed with that idea. On the other hand...
I fixed his blue eyes with a determined gaze.
- Lance, I would like you to help me regain my powers.
I paused, hesitating on what to do next.
- But maybe ... out of sight, like here.
He raised an eyebrow in disbelief, a thin smile on his lips.
- The little human wants to make clandestine dates in my room ?
It's Positive (The Irreplaceable Charlie Weasley AU)
Warnings: nothing but fluff
Word count: 3,051
Characters: Charlie Weasley and my OC Nova from TICW which you can find here
A/N: Okay, so! I want to clear the confusion that some of you might have. Specifically, those of you who have read my TICW and know about something that happens in Part 8.
After I wrote the alternative ending my mind went crazy realizing that the story doesn't have to end now but I stuck to it anyway. I had some of you in my private messages asking me to continue the story with chapter and parts but I didn't envision it like that, sorry.
However! I did start getting one-shots ideas a few weeks back that are basically stories from their lives in the alternative ending. So because I miss Nova and that version of Charlie so so much and I can't help myself and is honestly keeping me from writing anything else I decided to create an Alternative Ending AU where I would have the liberty to write stories about different events in their lives.
This one is happening a few weeks after the Sanctuary was attacked by Death Eaters. I will try to keep the timeline as clear as possible and try not to jump up and down a lot. Keep in mind that Nova is safe and sound in the alternative universe.
There will be no stories before this point - meaning no more school days for them but everything from this point on.
I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Oh, it's good to have Nova back. 🥺💙
Charlie
“I can't believe we did it.” The biggest grin painted Andrei's face. “I mean, the trees are still burned, but it's better and in time for your wedding too.”
“It took quite some time but I didn't have the slightest doubt that we wouldn't restore the Reserve.” I bestowed him with a smile.
“It's never going to be the same is it?” Andrei asked after a few seconds of silence.
“No.” I shook my head slightly, the smile disappearing from my face. “Listen, Andrei, are you sure you are okay with us having the wedding here?”
“Of course! Why would I mind?” Andrei's brows furrowed. “You needed long enough to arrange everything.” He joked.
“Yeah.” I forced a laugh. “You know what I mean. The events that happened here not even 3 weeks ago are still leaving a bitter taste in a lot of people's mouths. We lost a lot of people. I don't want to rub it in everybody's faces how happy Nova and I are.”
“Charlie,” Andrei turned to me slightly, putting a hand on my shoulder, “that is exactly what everybody needs. Love brings people together and it gives them hope. You have been at the healing station and you have helped me out the most, so you know that we need something positive.”
“You sound like Felix.” My lips curved a little.
“Yeah, that won't go away anytime soon.” Andrei shook his head and looked at the ground trying to hide the fact that tears gathered in his eyes.
“Andrei, if you ever need anything... you know that Nova and I are here for you. I don't know what I would do if I lost...” I bit my lip, stopping myself from saying anything else.
Just the thought of something happening to Nova or me losing her like Andrei lost Felix, broke something in me.
“I know.” He gave out a small smile. “You two are my closest friends here and one of the few who knew about me and Felix.”
“One more reason for you to come knocking on our door when you need some company.” I pulled him into a hug despite him being my boss and us never doing that before. I knew he needed one even though he would never admit to it.
“So,” Andrei gestured for us to start walking towards the cottages, “what do you two have planned once you get married?”
“We barely planned the wedding and you are asking me that?” I chuckled.
“Are we going to see any fiery-haired little Weasleys running around?” His face beamed.
“Oh, no!” I shook my head quickly. “We're not that fast. We want to enjoy our marriage before we start working on having little Weasleys.”
“Whatever you say.” Andrei sighed, pretending to be disappointed as we stopped in front of my home.
“You'll be begging me to not make you babysit so be careful what you wish for!” I giggled.
“How is Nova feeling, by the way? Any better?”
“She has been fine for two days now but she said that she'll stay in for a couple of days more just to be sure the stomach bug is really gone,” I explained.
“That's great news. Say hi to her for me and I'll see you tomorrow, Charlie.” Andrei waved and started walking away.
“Nova?” I called her name as I stepped through the door.
I took off my shoes and listened for movement to find out in which room she was.
“Love? Are you still sleeping?” I checked the clock on our kitchen wall. It was a little past 11, there was no way she was still in bed even though she never was a morning person.
“Bath...room.” I heard her say before she flushed the toilet.
“Are you alright?” I knocked on the door and pressed my ear on it, concern in my voice.
“No.” She whispered. “It's back.” She gagged and I could hear her pushing the toilet lid back up.
“Can I come in?” I asked gently, frowning.
I was getting more concerned each day. While I was out and about helping Andrei and the others after the Sanctuary attack, Nova has been spending most of her time in our bathroom. When the Death Eaters fled, we were both sent to the healing station for a check-up despite Nova saving us both with that protection spell. They deemed us healthy with minor scratches and I feel completely fine. Nova, however...
“Yeah.”
I slowly opened the door when she granted me access. She was leaning over the toilet. One hand wrapped around her hair to hold it back, the other hand hugging the toilet.
“Nova, you have to stop being stubborn and let me take you to the healers.” I couldn't hide the firmness in my voice.
“I'm fine.” She swung her hand.
“You have been spending more time with that toilet than with me.”
“You jealous?” She tried to chuckle but pushed her head closer to the toilet again and I jumped to her to hold her hair.
“Please, love. This isn't normal. A stomach bug doesn't take this long.” I pleaded.
She kept saying that she has the stomach flu and at the beginning, I thought so too. But she didn't have any other symptoms besides vomiting every morning.
“What else could it be?” She asked weakly, after flushing yet again.
“I am no expert in these matters, that's why I am begging you to go see a healer. Our wedding is less than 14 days away. If you won't be alright by then we are canceling the whole thing!” I tried threatening her but a mocking smile gave me away.
“Less than 14 days away?” Nova didn't react to my threat at all in the way she usually does.
Usually, she rolls her eyes and lifts one of her brows, and gazes at me with her arms crossed over her chest until I tell her that I'm joking. Now, her face lost all its color and her eyes widened as if the most terrifying creature was standing behind me.
“What date is it?” She asked, panic in her voice.
“27th,” I answered, puzzled.
“Twenty...” Nova's jaw dropped before leaning over the toilet again.
“Oh, no, no, no, no!” She got up, flushing again, and exited the bathroom.
“Nova, what is going on?” I rushed after her and stopped when I saw her pacing around the coffee table in our living room, her hands in her hair.
“I think I know what's wrong with me.” She said more to herself than to me.
“Love, you can't just diagnose yourself with something,” I said calmly, trying not to irritate her as she seemed to be seconds away from a panic attack.
“No, Char, listen to me!” She entwined out fingers, brought us to the sofa, and sat us down.
“Okay, I'm listening.” I brushed a lock of hair off her face.
“I...” Before she could continue, she put her hand over her mouth, looking green again.
“Should we rather have this conversation in the bathroom?”
“I think that would be better.” She nodded and before I could help her up, she was already running.
“Okay, so what do you think you have?” I asked, brushing her hair back after she was done.
“I don't want to say.” She was biting her lip nervously, us kneeling in front of the toilet.
“Love, we have been best friends since we were 11 and we celebrated our 5th anniversary in May and you can't tell me something?” I chuckled, trying to brighten up the mood.
“May!” She gasped and her eyes widened again. “Our anniversary!”
“Nova,” I blinked at her confusingly, “you have to give me more details. What is going on? What about our anniversary?”
“Okay,” she took a deep breath and waited for a second just to see if she will have to vomit again, “do you remember what we did after a very romantic dinner?”
“Yeah.” My cheeks turned scarlet, reminiscing on the moment.
“Do you remember what we usually do before we do that?” Nova pressed her lips together.
“We use the protection spell.” I nodded.
“Mhm, yeah, so...” Nova scratched the back of her head. “...do you remember how we could barely keep a conversation up in that restaurant because we didn't have the time to have sex for like 14 days and we couldn't wait to get home and once we did we were so caught up in the moment that we forgot something?” She squinted her eyes, her cheeks burning.
“Forgot someth...” Before I could ask what she was trying to say, my eyes mimicked hers from before. “No!” I said incredulously.
Nova nodded and hummed.
“No, we can't be. You can't be. It was one time!” I was pretty sure I was getting green in the face now.
“It's a possibility,” Nova mumbled. “This stomach bug of mine could be morning sickness.”
“I...” I suddenly forgot how to speak. “But it was one time.”
“Char, it doesn't need more than one time to get pregnant.” Nova giggled.
“So what do we do now?” I tried hiding the fact that I was getting more nervous by the minute.
“Well, I think that now I actually have to listen to you and go to the healer.” I tilted my head at Nova.
How was she so calm? This was huge! If she really is pregnant and we're going to have a baby...
I blinked. I didn't know how I feel about this. Ever since we first talked about having a family it has been our secret guilty pleasure. We both want a family and move somewhere where it would be safer to raise the kids but we want that in a few years. We are not prepared to have a baby!
“Let's go then.” I offered her my hand.
“Now?” Nova glimpsed at the toilet.
“Should we wait for another hour, just to make sure you're done for the day?”
“Yes, please.” Nova gave out a sheepish smile.
“Well, if you are vomiting and feeling nauseous every morning and your period is late and you forgot to use the protection spell, it's pretty safe to say that you're pregnant.”
Madam Finch had a slight smirk on her face saying that. The second Nova felt better we went to the healing station and found her at once.
“But, how can we be sure?” Nova asked.
“Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do for you here. We don't have any equipment like that, since we are in the middle of a Dragon Sanctuary. I am afraid you will have to go to St Mungo's or go to a Muggle drug store to get a pregnancy test.”
“A pregnancy test?” I furrowed my brows. “How does that work?”
“It's a plastic stick on which Nova would pee and if the window displaying the result would have a plus in it she is pregnant and if it would have a minus she's not pregnant.” Madam Finch replied.
“And how reliable are these tests?” Nova wanted to know.
“If your period is late and you think you conceived in May it would be about 99% reliable.”
Nova and I looked at each other and nodded. I knew she had the same idea as I did. We need to get to a drug store at once.
We walked to the Sanctuary gates in silence. Nova was biting her lip and looking at the ground, while I tried to calm down my nerves. It was obvious that we felt too awkward talking about this because we were both afraid of what the other person would say. I didn't want to tell her that I'm nervous, I needed to be there for her and appear strong even though I was pretty sure that the same thoughts were crossing her mind.
The second we walked outside the gates, we locked arms and apparated to the nearest Muggle town. Nova spotted the store and grabbed my hand, dragging me behind her. She tried hard to appear as if she wasn't trying to rush this but I knew she wanted to get it over as soon as possible.
“There are so many of them. How are we supposed to choose?” Nova's eyes were scanning all the different boxes, while she was biting the inner side of her cheek.
“Which one does seem the most reliable to you?” I tried helping her even though I had zero experience when it came to this.
“I wish my mum was here,” Nova whispered and I was pretty sure I wasn't supposed to hear that.
I bowed my head. I felt so useless. She was nervous trying to find out if she had a baby in her belly and I was just standing next to her, helpless. I wish this would happen when we were more ready and I wish I was more knowledgeable about this so I could advise her.
“I'm sorry I am so helpless.” I put my hand on the small of her back. “What?” She looked away from the boxes and locked eyes with me.
“I feel so useless. I should be able to help you with this.” I pointed at the boxes.
“Char, stop it, now. I am as clueless as you are about this stuff and you don't see me apologizing to myself. We are going to manage just fine! We are in this together.” She bestowed me with the biggest reassuring smile, grabbed my hand, and pressed it hard against her chest.
“You're right.” I nodded and turned my head to the shelf with the boxes. “How about this one? It says that it's quick and 99.9% reliable.” I took the box and showed it to her.
“Sounds good to me. Let's take it!”
“I am so nervous, I can't believe I was able to pee!” Nova exclaimed as she came out of the bathroom, her eyes on the pregnancy test in her hand.
“I am proud of you for peeing, love.” I gestured for her to sit down on the sofa next to me.
She put the stick on the coffee table and positioned herself in my arms. I tightened the grip on her as much as possible because I knew how much it calms her down. I took a deep breath, neither of us taking our eyes off the test.
“So,” Nova swallowed hard, “we didn't talk about how we feel about this.”
“About what?” I kissed the top of her head.
“About how we would feel if a plus shows in that little circle.”
There was a moment of silence. I could feel Nova's heartbeat against my arm.
“Well, we didn't plan this,” I said carefully. I knew she was nervous but I didn't know what she was hoping for.
“Yeah.” Was all she replied.
“And we aren't even married.”
“Yeah.” “And we said we wanted to enjoy being married to one another for a few years before we start a family.”
“Yup.” Nova nodded.
“And we wanted to find a nice cozy home where we could envision us raising our little rascals.”
“That we did.”
“And we are currently at war.”
“Mhm,” Nova mumbled.
“It's the worst possible time to have a baby.”
“Yeah, I couldn't agree with you more.”
“But how I wish that we would get a plus.”
“Me too.”
Nova shifted in my arms and we both sighed in relief when we saw the biggest grins painting our faces.
“I know it's not ideal but is it ever the right time to have a kid?” Nova pressed her lips hard on mine.
“Is it okay if I say that I don't care when the right time is? I am so excited to see the result, hoping that we're pregnant that I can't think of anything else.” I admitted.
The second we started staring at that test and I thought to myself that I hope we are having a baby I forgot about all our worries.
Was the timing good? No. But do I think we are ready to have a family? Yes. We might not know everything and we have a lot to learn but every parent is clueless at the beginning, right? If Nova got pregnant in May, we have quite some time to learn all the necessary things for us to be great parents.
“I feel the same. I want to have a baby with you, Char.” Her voice was so soft and her eyes were so hopeful that I couldn't stand it anymore.
I gently pushed her away and kneeled in front of the coffee table, trying not to peak at the test.
“Has it been 2 minutes yet?”
“I think so.” Nova kneeled next to me, her eyes going from the clock on the wall to the test.
“Should we turn it around?” I put my arm around her shoulder and kissed her forehead.
“Let's do it together.”
We grabbed the pregnancy test, one on each side, and turned it around.
“What does it say?” Nova asked.
“I don't know. I have my eyes closed!” I giggled.
“Me too!” Nova started laughing.
“Okay, we both look in three, two, one!”
We both opened our eyes, our gaze on the little circle in the middle of the stick.
“Love...” I whispered.
“It's positive.” Nova breathed.
“We're having a baby?” “We're having a baby!” Nova exclaimed, picked up the pregnancy test, and brought it so close to her face that it was almost touching her nose.
“We're going to be parents!” I helped her get up and we started jumping up and down around the living room.
“We're pregnant, Char!” She crushed into me, giving me the tightest hug. “And we're not even married.” She looked up at me, trying to see my reaction.
I couldn't stop smiling. Her being so happy and excited about it and me wanting to have a family with her ever since we got together, made this moment so perfect. I pressed a kiss on her forehead and one on each of her cheeks before I cupped her face and kissed her tenderly.
Before I could enjoy our pleasantly surprising news more, a thought came to mind and my eyes widened as Nova's did before.
“My mum's going to kill us.”
The Criminal Psychology Majors, Jason Todd x Fem!Reader Part 21/?
Word Count: 1.5k
Author's Note: Y/N - Your name
Hello! I'm back! Time for drama!
Idk if this is coming out at the right time, I deadass forgot what day it is and ughughughyh
Warnings: Swearing, Discussion of Mental Illness (undiagnosed), Injury Description, Taunting, Attempted Gaslighting, Attempted Manipulation, Kidnapping, No beta bitch we die like Jason Todd (I've missed saying that<3)
(Part 1) (Part 2) (Part 3) (Part 4) (Part 5) (Part 6) (Part 7) (Part 8) (Part 9) (Part 10) (Part 11) (Part 12) (Part 13) (Part 14) (Part 15) (Part 16) (Part 17) (Part 18) (Part 19) (Part 20) (Part 21)
Jason was stumbling over his words after telling Y/N that days were blurring together. When a decently loud crash was heard from the lower level of the Wayne Manor. Jason perked up, getting up and trying to stop Y/N from following him down the stairs.
Which was too late. When they turned to go down the hallway, they were both whacked off the back of their heads. Knocking the two of them out almost instantly. Y/N took a few seconds to catch up to Jason in being out, catching a glimpse of the fight going on down the hall. She thought it was Stephanie trying her best to fight off her attacker. But soon enough her vision blurred and blacked.
She fumbled herself awake in the room. She couldn't even take away anything from the room, it was just sawing and turning colours in front of her. She didn't notice anything in the room, the lights were blinding, she didn't even know if it was lighting.
"You're awake," she said.
And then it clicked. That was Aria's voice.
----------------------------------------
Days before the kidnapping of the Waynes.
Aria sat in her office. Clutching the book her twin gave her for Christmas. It was a journal, with details talking about the schedules of the Waynes. If only Y/N had known that the journal she lovingly gave her sister would end up the way it would.
She had doodles, floor plans, schedules. Everything. She wrote it all down from extensive stalking of the Waynes. She was not going to fail at kidnapping the Waynes. She was going to do it, get the ransom from Bruce, and possibly meet heroes. She was going to fight everyone to death who tried to rescue them.
She knew the morning after a Wayne Gala that the entire family would be off-guard. She knew they owned weapons from the fact of the attacks from September. So she had to catch them fully off-guard to pull off their plan.
She looked at her mask. She knew her sister had seen the mask, the cloak. She was still considering off-handedly that she should revamp it all, make it so her sister couldn't call her out. Maybe add a voice changer? She really didn't know.
If it came down to it, if she had the time, she would do it. If not, she would just hope that her sister didn't recognise anything. Crazy? Yes, she was. The brightest lightbulb in the box? Not a chance.
She went over her plans again, adding them to the massive board she already had of the Waynes. The red lines linking all of them, the paparazzi photos. She didn't realise she was that crazy. She didn't realise that she was that much of a cliche.
She thought this was normal. She thought this obsession was okay. She looked at the photos on the wall and the red lines thinking that this was perfect.
She didn't think her sister would even be bad at her for this. She thought her sister would understand, she would get it. She would forgive her and move on. She would understand her need to get close and with the vigilantes and the heroes. She would understand the need to befriend the villains and crooks.
She would. Aria swore she would.
She heard of the Wayne Gala occurring in a few days. She would prepare her weapons when she found out. Shine her scythe. Polish her guns. Polish her daggers. Clean her cloak. Only touch her mask with gloves on. Hour barely appeared in the sight of the vigilantes. They knew she was planning something.
She hoped that fact would make them come for her further.
"Ma'am?" one of her goblins asked.
"Yes. What do you want."
"Lexcorp is hiring," they shook.
"And? Relevance."
"Alter ego, ma'am."
"Noted."
"Ma'am?"
"Get... out!" she screeched.
"Yes ma'am," they said as they hurriedly closed her door.
Yelling was normal for the army she led. She would yell at them at any moment. For no reason.
She thought this was normal, too. She didn't realise people didn't yell at each other for no reason. She was raised to be yelled at. Y/N and Aria were always yelled at.
Y/N used the yelling to turn herself for the better. She thought of it as good parenting that she wouldn't replicate, ever, but she understood it.
Aria had a god complex. She only felt like she was worth it for 30 minutes of the day. And those 30 minutes were thrown into her work as Hour. She refused to work unless she was feeling her best, but if she was planning on kidnapping the Waynes, she'd have to learn to fake it.
Fake it all, fake nothing, fake everything. She was going to do what she wanted, maybe she'd extend those few and fatal 30 minutes of power into hours, into days. She didn't want to feel like this anymore.
She thought about how she was going to kidnap her own sister, her own flesh and blood, and possibly hurt her.
She pushed those thoughts away.
She refused to acknowledge the pain she was going to cause. She hoped there was none.
Y/N would understand, right?
---------------------------------------------
Aria groaned, getting up in her childhood room, the one she shared with Y/N. She blinked and tried to cling to her sleep, but to no avail. She was visiting their parents.
She looked over to Y/N's side. Her favourite colour painted the walls she had, all the woods matched. It looked far less messy than Aria's side. She figured it was because she was mentally ill, but not Y/N. But then she thought she wasn't mentally ill, and that Y/N was. Aria couldn't be mentally ill, she was doing the right thing.
The thought still pained her. In a few days, she'd be putting out a ransom for her sister in the news. She'd be threatening her life. She'd be putting her under stress and their parents under stress. If she was caught-
No, she thought. No chance.
----------------------------------------
Present-day.
"Aria?" Y/N questioned, basically in disbelief.
"Shut up!" Aria boomed back at her, "You," she said, lifting up Y/N's head with her long claws. "You are my prized possession."
"Prized," she echoed back.
"Don't worry, love," she said. Y/N winced, she knew her sister called her that. She didn't want to think this was her sister. "You will be just fine. If your parents pay up, that is."
"My parents don't-"
"Did I say you could speak?!"
She shut up. Fuck, she thought. Fuck this. Fuck you. I know that's you, Aria. If you can hear me, I hope you rot.
She didn't even know if that was how she felt. Her brain was spinning, like someone put her on a merry-go-round and left her there, to pick up the pieces. She didn't know how to pick up the pieces of her broken heart. She didn't want this to be her sister, her flesh and blood, the person she shared a womb, a room, parents, cousins, aunts, uncles- she didn't want it to be true!
"Maybe you want to know why I'm doing this," Aria asked the air while pulling Y/N's head up again. "Well, love.
"This is what happens when you date a rich man.
"This is what happens when you flip off the press.
"This is what happens when you find yourself wrapped up in the mess known as the Justice League Association, do you know who they are?
"Of course you don't. They're Batman, The Flash, Green Arrow, Superman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman, Black Canary, Aquaman and more.
"And their proteges, oh my God! Their proteges! You have Nightwing, Red Hood, Red Robin, Robin, Batgirl, Spoiler, Orphan.
"And then Kid Flash and Impulse.
"Arrowette and Speedy.
"Superboy, Supergirl.
"Miss Martian.
"Wondergirl and Artemis.
"Aqualad.
"These people, my dear. These people are my nemeses. And I want them gone!" she maniacally laughed, "Dead! All of them!"
"You're... You're Insane!"
"So be it!" she yelled back, striking Y/N's face with her claws. The blood running down her cheek along with her tears. "If I'm insane, then at least I get paid!"
She laughed and left the room.
And there Y/N was, alone in a room where she couldn't even make out details, with blood running down her face. While she was aware that her attacker may even be her little sister. She was terrified. Petrified. Scared.
She wondered where the Waynes were, maybe they were all together? So that she could use them for ransom, maybe she couldn't use Y/N for ransom, so she was left alone in the room.
She wanted to know if they were all safe. Jason and she had only been dating for 6 months, but she did care- love- every member of the Wayne family so much. And she knew that most of the kids struggled with mental illnesses.
She knew them being alone would be detrimental to their mental health.
She also knew that she had no way, no way, of getting to any of them.
Know The Risk.
Tumblr media
Summary: Jay knows sleeping with his CI is enough to get him fired, but when she’s needed for an job, Jay can’t handle it. Pairing: Jay Halstead x unnamed female character. Characters: Jay, Voight, Olinsky. Warnings: mentions of drug dealing, weapon threat (gun), the suggestion of sexual favours in exchange for work (incredibly brief and not in detail), brief mention of sex (with Jay). Words: 2092 A/N: I’m pretty nervous to be posting this, so I’ll hit post and then go and hide. While I’m not new to writing, I am new to writing for the Chicago world. Apologies if the characterisation isn’t correct, I’m still learning. Not BETA’d because this is my first time here, so all mistakes, errors and typos are completely my own.
This was a request from my patreon account.
Likes, reblogs and feedback makes me squeal with happiness.
______
Jay’s been on edge ever since she stepped out of the car and headed towards the meeting point. He’d personally wired her up as he’d tried to keep his cool. His fingers had worked meticulously, and he’d made sure the camera attached to her blouse button was hidden. They needed to see as well as hear but the thought of her going in there alone made bile rise.
“I thought you wanted to solve this case?” she’d questioned, staring him down as she’d ran her tongue over her teeth as she watched him fretting.
“I do but not at this expense.” He’d whispered back, thankful the mic wasn’t live yet. To the rest of the team, she was simply one of Jay’s informants, nothing more than that. He had a few, mostly men but there were a few women who he could call on for a favour, though she’s the only one who had managed to get under his skin. She’d left such an impression on him that he couldn’t get her off his mind.
“Admit it,” she’d grinned at him, “if you weren’t milking me for information every opportunity you have, you’d be trying to get something else out of me.” He’d held out as long as he possibly could before she’d been invited to his apartment, the two of them finally giving in to what has been building for months. Jay had taken her with such relish, desperate to savour every moment of it not thinking for a moment it would be repeated.
But it had. That first time had unlocked something within the two of them, making them unable to resist one another. They’d find a way to have the conversations at either hers or his, she’d tell him everything he needed to know with each swipe of his tongue. Jay made sure he learnt what she liked as quickly as possible. He didn’t have an ego outside of the bedroom and ensured that it stayed the same inside of it but he couldn’t help it. The more she gave him, the more he wanted to take. The more he needed to take.
She’d have given him the information regardless but the coaxing, slow drawing of it, the way she’d withhold details unless he gave her an orgasm was all part of their foreplay. And for every arrest made, every case closed thanks to her, she was rewarded with even more. When Jay reached out to her about this case, she had the right connections, provided details and information that proved to be vital. She’d managed to worm her way in, met their main suspect a few times and managed to get close to being trusted as an outsider could, enabling her to be able to slip between members without being stopped. Or at least not initially.
Which is why she was the perfect candidate for heading in there tonight. Jay sits with headphones on, eyes barely moving from the screen. He hates every word that comes from her mouth. He knows she’s putting it on, but the seductive tone to it makes his cock stir against his wishes, the words should be making him shrink back against the seat in which he sits. She’s flirting with whoever she needs, their faces show the level of interest in her, the way they lick their lips as they drag their gaze down her body and wipe their thumb over the corner of their mouth as they chuckle and click their tongue.
She slipped through the crowd, searching for the one who they’d shown her the picture of until finally he came into view on the camera. Jay felt his body tense up, watching everything unfold on the screen before him. He’d seen what happened to people who got in his way, they were either in the ground or in the morgue and one wrong thing said, one tone off, one nervous hesitation and he’d know. The last thing Jay wanted was to watch her be taken down in front of his eyes, recorded for evidence and to be used whenever needed. The thought of it turned his stomach, had him biting at his nails with anxiety until he was sitting forward, his eyes widening as Darius played straight into her hand.
Jay knew better than anyone how good she was. She played the part incredibly well, and though he knew how she appeared to others, he was the one who saw her for who she really was. The version playing out on the screen for the team to see right now, that was flawless acting. Olinsky and Voight have exchanged glances at one another, muttered under their breath no doubt not wanting Jay to hear but he has. They comment on the way she held her cool, how convincing she appeared and how if they hadn’t had a conversation with her prior to sending her in there, they’d have believed her act. Pride licks at the edges of the raw anxiety ridden wound that festered with each passing minute.
“So you’re the one I’ve been hearin’ ‘bout?” his voice could be heard over the music, the way he looked at her made Jay’s stomach turn.
“depends what you’ve been hearing.”
His tongue slipped over his lips as he’d opened his legs, his hand resting against his inner thigh, the opposite leg swings open and closed as he watched her. “that you know someone who can take twenty keys and make me a lotta money.”
“That’s enough, we can get her out now, right?” Jay asked, moving the headset from one ear to look at Voight.
“Not yet,” his husky tone remained steady as his eyes stayed fixed on the screen.
“He just adm-”
“He didn’t admit anything. We need something concrete before we bust in there and mess up the whole thing.”
Jay clenched his jaw, kept listening and waiting impatiently for Darius to say something which could be used. He wasn’t a praying man but sitting there, with the screen having his full attention and her safety fully on his mind? Yeah, Jay was praying.
“listen yeah? Imma let your guy sell 8. See how that shifts. See if I can trust him.” Darius talks slowly, his eyes never leaving hers. What he means by trusting her buying is also seeing if he could trust her too. Jay knows how this works. You tell a small secret, or a lie, see what happens with it. Build it up until you decide if you can trust a person. If she delivers him the money for 8 and keeps the money coming in, she can be trusted with more product. “After that, we’ll look at somethin’ bigger yeah?”
Darius’s gaze drops down her body, takes in the curves of her body, the ones that Jay knows too well. His blood boils but he forces his hand to remain relaxed. If he clenched his hand, showed his emotion which could be taken exactly for what it is, he’d be packing his desk in a box and walked out of the building before the ink had dried on his paperwork.
Come on you son of a bitch, give me one good reason not to land a punch on you the second I get my hands on you.
“Like what?”
“Look at you thinkin’ big.” He runs his tongue back over his lips as he watches her. “I like the way your mind works. How bout that mouth?”
“What about it?”
“Wanna taste somethin’ on mine? You gonna be sellin’ it, don’t you wanna taste first? See how good it is” he asks, the fingers of the hand that rests against his thigh drums over his clothes.
“You’re giving me a freebie?”
“Bitch, ain’t nothing free here.” He scoffs, unable to believe she really asked that. “You want my H? You gotta show me how much you want it.” His hand moves, fingers tracing over his belt, snapping it open in one fluid motion. The explanation clear.
“We go now.” Voight’s voice rings out behind Jay. His headset is snapped away from him within seconds and he’s on his feet, out of the van with the others following.
___
“Jay?” Neither have really said a word since they got back to the precinct. She wanted to, was desperate to fill the silence with mindless chatter like they would usually but the look on his face tells her he’d rather have this than talk. “Jay.” She tries again and only now do his light eyes flicker up to her face. His hands still work, removing her wires, her camera and anything else which could pick the two of them up. Anything which could be used against them. “Are you not going to say anything?”
“I will once my heart leaves my throat.”
“I did ok though, right? You’d use me again.”
“You terrified me half to death, that’s what you did.”
“But did I do ok?”
He sighs, locks his jaw and stares at her as his hands drop to his side, the devices tightly fixed in his fist. “You did and that’s the problem.”
Her brow furrows, “pro-”
“Yes, problem. Do you realise how convincing you were? If we hadn’t come in when we had? He could’ve-”
“but he didn’t.”
“But he could have.”
“I knew the risk when I agreed to do this.” She lifts her face, angles her chin defiantly at him.
“So did I but that doesn’t mean I’m happy about the way he was or how it was playing out.” Turning his back briefly to put the device into the box it came from, he can’t wipe the memory of the camera from his mind.
They’re downstairs, away from security cameras, away from mics; the only two in that area are the ones Jay has just disconnected and put away. Alone, with no footsteps approaching, she steps forward and pulls him into a hug. “I’m fine. You came at exactly the right time. Maybe if you came in minutes after? That could have been a different story. Look at me, he barely touched me.” She says, ignoring the way her head throbs at the memory of how he’d grabbed her hair so tightly she thought he planned to rip clumps from her scalp as he’d dragged her to her feet and held a gun to her temple, using her as a shield. Her heart rate had only just calmed but the intense way that Jay stared at her made it pick up a little more. “I’m ok because of you.”
“But if I hadn’t.” His voice cracks a little and that one sound? That one sound breaks her.
“Hey,” moving his hand, she presses it against her chest, “see, I’m alive because of you and your team. Don’t beat yourself up over what could be. I’m here. Unhurt. And I’d do it again if it meant I could be of use to you.”
“Your information helps enough. I don’t need you almost getting attacked or killed just so we can take someone down. There are other ways.”
“If it wasn’t me in that position Jay, it would have been someone else. Would you have felt better having someone else have that gun pressed against their head just because it wasn’t me? Because I wouldn’t.”
When he says nothing, just continues to stare at her, she nuzzles her nose against his jaw, over his throat before pressing her lips to him, feeling the rough stubble as it grazes against her soft skin. “You’re feeling this because you acted as you should.” she presses more kisses, up the underside of his jaw and finally over the curve of it, her lips dragging towards his lips until he finally moves, dipping his face to meet her lips with his own and kisses her with all the pent up emotion he’d been keeping in, now barely to hold himself back after just a taste of her again.
“We can’t do this here.” He groans, forcing himself to pull away from her. Her eyes are dilating, her chest rises and falls from the rapid breathing. “You know where the spare key is for my place right? I’ll meet you there. You need to go now before I take you into the supply closet and get fired.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll make sure I’m naked.” She says, stepping towards him and pulling his lip between her teeth, nibbling on it just enough to draw a long groan from him before letting it go with a satisfying pop.
Things I want to see in the future of MHA
(not just post-war stuff, but also the entire series. Some of these are kinda self-indulgent)
1. Endeavor and Hawks’ judgment
I honestly don’t know if I want to see them punished or pardoned. I’m interested in both of those so I’ll just trust Horikoshi on that one. But anyways, there’s no way they aren’t getting shit for this.
2. Whatever the ‘fake heroes’ are gonna do after this
Going back to Stain’s ideology about fake heroes. I agree with parts of it, there are a lot of people that become heroes without the conviction. They get into it by treating it the same way as any other office job, not as a mission to be well, heroes. But I don’t agree that they should be killed or eliminated. Being a hero for money isn’t inherently a bad thing, it’s when you let greed take over you to the point that you forget what it means to be a hero. Some of those ‘fake heroes’ like Mt. Lady who was originally in it for the fame and money have grown to become real heroes. Others who really have zero conviction, will probably quit after facing this amount of despair, like the guy in chapter 296.
3. The Todoroki family’s image
How will everyone else see the victims of the situation, Natsuo, Fuyumi, Rei and Shoto after this? Especially Shoto. Now that his past is out in the public, that will probably affect his future as a pro. Would his classmates and peers see him or treat him differently after this? Like out of pity or sympathy?
4. The public’s backlash in general
How will the public start viewing not just Endeavor, Hawks, and the Todoroki family, but all heroes? Will they lose faith in heroes? We know they kinda already are when UA had a lot of backlash when Bakugo was kidnapped. UA as well, will it get shut down?
5. Bakudeku’s talk
I don’t think their relationship is actually gonna stay the same after this whole ‘my body moved on its own because I care for you and wanted to save you so I just got stabbed and risked my life for you and even told you to stop trying to be so selfless and do everything by yourself’ thing. All Might also did foreshadow that they were gonna talk soon. Maybe we could get the long awaited Bakugo apology scene ? Though it feels way too soon. And if Hori feeds us Bakudekus even more I think we’re just gonna combust.
5. Deku’s character development
His mindset and view of the world will probably be way darker and even more serious after this. I also want to see how Bakugo getting hurt for his sake and saying “don’t play hero all by yourself” will affect him. We know that he has decided to become a hero that wouldn’t make anyone worry about him when he had a flashback of his mom crying and being worried for him. He decided that the solution to that is to be stronger, but now maybe he can learn that selflessness doesn’t necessarily mean that he has to carry all the weight by himself. But then there’s the 4th user’s quirk that will probably push him to be even more selfless.
6. Ochako’s development
Please please PLEASE let this girl have more development. The way her fight against Toga ended, and her seeing the grievous side of being a hero? Probably a set up for her development.
7. Basically the rest of the kids’ development?
Obviously it’s not just the people involved in the fight against Shigaraki, or Ochako that are gonna view the world differently after this. I wanna see how they will deal with this. Kirishima and Mina will probably be some of the highlights. Also Momo, since Midnight meant a lot to her when she was the one that trusted Momo to lead their classes in the battle against Gigantomachia.
8. Aizawa and Present Mic dealing with Midnight’s death
Those two are especially highlighted amongst all of the other UA staff members because they have a past with her, as shown in vigilantes. We saw their anger and sadness about Shirakumo, what more when it comes to Midnight?
9. The villains dealing with their losses
Yes, know Toga went on a rampage after Twice’s death, but how will she and deal with it in the long run? How about losing Mr. Compress? How will Shigaraki react to both of those, and having the other Paranormal Liberation Front members like Geten captured? Not just emotionally, but how about the loss in terms of strength and power?
10. Prison break arc
People have been talking about this for years, maybe ever since we knew All for One was only imprisoned and not killed. We’ll probably see it happen next chapter. Will it cause the public to lose even more faith in the hero system? How will it affect the villains? Will AFO be their boss now, or will they resist him and stay loyal to Shigaraki?
11. All for One vs Shigaraki
Related to the previous point. We know Shigaraki really doesn’t want AFO bossing him around. They’ll probably have a fight. Maybe Deku and Shigaraki vs AFO? Then they’ll go back to fighting each other once the common threat is gone. This doesn’t feel very likely, but it could be a way of interpreting Deku’s “you looked like you needed saving” at the end of chapter 295.
11. Deku’s arms?
I don’t know if I want him to lose them and get prosthetics, or get healed by Eri. It would be great to see him experience a major loss, but ability-wise and emotionally? Not so good for him, though that’s kinda the point. Also he might not be able to use OFA in his arms anymore and I kinda don’t wanna see that. Even if he can, will he be able to use it at 100%? So far, we’ve seen that the level of technology in MHA aren’t enough to withstand 100%
12. Deku mastering One for All
I wanna see him consistently use 100% without injuring himself. I want to see him do more with black whip, float and the fourth user’s quirk. I’m also curious about the other three quirks left.
13. Power buff for everyone else
I kinda don’t wanna see the MC getting so ahead of everyone else, to the point that they leave everyone else in the dust. But I know that it’s been established way earlier on that Deku will surpass everyone in terms of strength. Even now, Bakugo, one of the strongest in Class 1-A could barely catch up with 30% OFA. But from his internal dialogue in chapter 293, I’m guessing he already had a quirk evolution when he saw Deku at the verge of death. I want to see more details on that though.
14. Everyone else’s reaction to Bakugo’s sacrifice
It’s gonna be a big thing for his character and all, but I don’t think this is gonna happen because of well, everything else being a mess. But maybe at least All Might’s?
15. Deku’s father
I don’t want him to be a really big famous, important figure, or someone involved in this whole AFO vs OFA stuff. It will kinda ruin Deku’s character of like, ‘just an ordinary boy that was lucky and so his character arc is to be worthy of that blessing’. If Deku’s father was someone like that, that would mean he was the fated or chosen one in the first place anyways? But what else can Deku’s dad be? I honestly don’t know.
16. All Might’s death
I see so many people complain that he should’ve died in Kamino, but I disagree because saving that big moment for later was actually a good decision. We know he’s gonna die, he has death flags everywhere. But I wonder how exactly he will die, when he will die, and how big of an impact his death will have.
17. The final battle
As in, the last battle of the entire series. Deku vs Shigaraki rematch, Ochako vs Toga, Shoto vs Dabi. And for Bakugo, well...... he doesn’t really have a villain nemesis? (Huh maybe I’ll talk about that some other time) But the best I could think of right now is Bakugo and Deku vs Shigaraki, like in Heroes Rising. If the Heroes Rising ending was the original series ending, maybe Hori was hinting that Bakugo and Deku will be fighting the final boss together?
18. Bakugo and Deku as a hero duo
Related to the previous point. Shipping lenses aside, I think there’s plenty of foreshadowing for that? Even if they wouldn’t officially be hero partners, I’m guessing they’re both gonna be important pillars. “Win to save, save to win”
19. The ending
I want to see how they will fix the broken hero society. I want to see Class 1-A as wonderful heroes. I want satisfying closure for the villains as well. What I don’t want to see is everyone getting married and having kids like Naruto, and those kids being the characters for a sequel series. I’m sorry but as much as I like a lot of the ships, I think that’s probably one of the worst endings possible. But a next generation sequel actually wouldn’t be that bad if the main characters were the established kid characters we already know and love, Eri, Kota, Katsuma and Mahoro. We can see through them how the new hero system/society works, and maybe all the smaller subtle stuff that they still need to patch up. Other than that, I don’t think there’s anything else good about it.
20. Deku becoming the greatest hero
Also very much related to the previous point but I only remembered it afterwards. We know it’s gonna happen, but how? Also notice that while Bakugo always says ‘number one hero’, Deku always just says ‘greatest hero’, which kinda aren’t the same thing. Maybe it’s just cuz I’m a Bakugo stan, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to just let the rival characters be content with number two? Either ‘Bakugo is the number one in ranking while Deku is the greatest hero’, or ‘Deku is the greatest and number one hero but their rivalry hasn’t ended and it’s a push-pull’ thing. Or just kill one of them (cough Bakugo cough) and it’ll be fine.
21. Other people finding out about OFA
I don't think it's going to stay a secret between Deku, Bakugo and All Might anymore. At the very least, the people involved in the fight against Shigaraki, like Shoto, Aizawa and Endeavor should be given an explanation on why Shigaraki was targeting Deku in particular. At worst, it becomes public news and Deku will now have to deal with a much a greater pressure of everyone expecting him to take up All Might's mantle. I'd rather go with the former, but the latter is also interesting I guess. Or if not those, they'd have to come up with a really good excuse.
Anyways that’s all I can think of for now? There’s probably way more at the back of my head. I’ll just edit whenever.
🚨The Rise of Skywalker Detailed Review and Spoilers Ahead🚨
Tumblr media
George Lucas: “If the boy and girl walk off into the sunset hand-in-hand in the last scene, it adds 10 million to the box office”
The “fairytale” we got: A long long time ago in a galaxy far far away, there was a curse of pain and death in a family that just went on and on.  They were never able to break it and they all die, the end.
Well, you did it JJ, you little punk...you ruined 40 years of cinema. Kids are coming out of theatres crying, they can’t understand. I guess this was the “fun and hopeful ending” you were speaking of during the press tours.  Are you on crack or something, or just sadistic....why would you promote it like that!? Did you forget Star Wars at its core is a story of hope, light, a fairytale in space for children? They did it...they united Reylo’s and Fanboys through hate.
JJ you do realize tragical romances are only tragically romantic if there was romantic buildup? Romeo and Juliet married in secret, Anidala did as well and flirted in the fields. How was this supposed to be satisfying? A five-second beginning, middle, and end. How this went through multiple execs is beyond me.... I would have understood if Reylo was Rian’s creation. BUT JJ LITERALLY was the one who told Rian to go forth with it...he created Reylo so you can’t say the last Jedi derailed things on that front. JJ wasn’t brave enough for his own vision. This movie was like “the crimes of Grindlewald”, a lot of stuff happening that made me feel nothing.
Okay, first things first. The OG trilogy was necessary, the prequels were necessary to set up that Vader did not start off bad. What was necessary about the sequels? They just dismantled everything the Skywalker family worked for. Why did we have to see ALL of our favorite characters die? Was the aim that a villain can only be redeemed through death? How original. I’m convinced what they were planning for since force awakens was a journey from villain to hero...but instead we got this a 10min redemption resulting in death a la Vader. Why call Adam Driver’s character a “Disney Prince”?When did Happy endings become so controversial? We go to the movies to feel hope, to escape reality...George Lucas understood that. JJ’s trilogy is uninspired, bland and contributes nothing to the saga. JJ went as far as to recon his own “The Force Awakens”.It had the chance to define generations but no. Literal and utter garbage. Rian made some odd choices but he was bold, unafraid and had the vision. HE knew emotion was at the heart of Star Wars.
WHERE DID THE SKYWALKERS RISE? MORE LIKE RISE OF PALPATINE,  HE BLOODY WON
BUT my problem is not with the ending, it’s the bloody entire movie. This movie made me realize that it's not Reylo that I am a fan of, it was Ben, Leia, Han, Ani, Padme, and all those other characters. I’m upset because this movie is not my Star Wars: of family, love and above all else hope. This is just a 2.5-hour video game with no emotions. This trilogy was all angst with NO payoff.
Okay, you will never ever convince me Palpatine was planned the whole time. This whole movie was retcon for the Last Jedi that pissed off the fanboys. Lucas films did not have an outline for the three films and Rian derailed whatever they wanted to do....except they didn’t even tell him what they wanted! This should be a cautionary tale of why you need to plan. Kylo ain’t bad, Snoke is gone....well pull out Palpatine I guess. This whole film is JJ’s mad scrambling.  Alright, I will humor you, tell me how Palpatine came back when he fell down a shaft and exploded....not *boom boom because of force*. The force in this movie is not canon George Lucas force, it’s just an easy out whenever JJ wants one.
1. Opening Crawl: As soon as I saw this I knew all the leaks were true, I wanted to bolt from the theatre. When I saw them in August I laughed cause it was so ridiculous it couldn’t be true. How could Disney let a whole movie leak? The plot seemed like a bad fan-fiction. Actually, fanfics are way more true to lore. Anyway, so Palpatine “announces” that he’s back. Is this the shrewd Chancellor Palpatine we know? Certainly, not...why in the world would he announce it rather than keep on the DL and just attack. Yo Palps ain’t this dumb why would you let them (the resistance) prepare?? Because of plot...well okay.
2. Did Last Jedi even happen:  this film is the sequel to the force awakens, like TLJ never happened...except it’s acting like there was some movie in between that JJ made. Okay, so why is Kylo trying to run Rey over with his tie fighter...he doesn’t really want to kill her. It’s just meaningless action shots.  And don’t get me started on exposition, the dialogue: “hey look its the Knights of Ren”. Except they do nothing. Cool cool.  Kylo’s character goes back to Force awakens era like no development had occurred...except he’s not even there he’s just messing around not even being a real villain.  JJ’s specialty is set-up and he does this beautifully....but he can not wrap up and follow through.
3. Rose Tico: yup last Jedi never happened, she has nothing to do. She and Finn are irrelevant. Finn has reverted to being obsessed with Rey. Cool Cool.  I honestly feel so bad for the lovely Kelly Marie Tran. How did you relegate a relatively big character into the sidelines?? Why introduce two new characters this late. Rose could have filmed in for them...but alas we must snub Rian at every turn because that’s just how petty JJ Abrams is. ( don’t get me wrong Jannah was cool)
4. The Rise Of Poe Dameron: Finn has been relegated to a side character who does nothing and just yells “REY!”. It was a great setup, a stormtrooper who was force sensitive but doesn’t want his life to be fighting for nothing. You could have explored trauma, the discovery of the light but nope nada. Tell me the point of his character journey. So flat and static. And with Jannah and the ex stormtroopers they could have gone with the arc of these lost, sad kids coming together to find family.
5. Leia:  Okay you’re telling me our Princess would give up on her son before he was born, just throw away her lightsaber and accept Ben’s fate? Cool alright. And she knew about Rey Palpatine and didn’t say anything...my princess would never.
6. Mary Sue Rey: Ahh Rey this girl feels no emotion in this movie...just like the audience. Sure she’s trained but she can just do stuff with the “force” that even Jedi masters can’t. Stopping a whole starship, something even Yoda could barely do...yup she can do it. Beat Kylo all the time except one, yup she can. Manipulate the force in mind-boggling ways, heal people...sure Luke couldn’t but Rey certainly can.  Cause she is the chosen one...hell even Ani wasn’t this talented and he had years of training. Poe and Finn have a genuine connection, Rey just seems disjointed (totally understandable why)...but if so the ending is even worse. She doesn’t even find peace with her friends. She’s not realistic and human like Luke and Leia were.
 Force sensitivity in the galaxy:  What a perfect setup, the boy with the broom at the end of TLJ that was force sensitive. The message is that the power to use the force was spreading through the galaxy. No longer confined to the elite. People were hearing of Luke’s battle of Crate and rising.
7. Kylo/Ben: I still maintain that he, other than Ani was the most nuanced character in the whole saga. His arc from Force Awakens to Last Jedi had progressed. How great that even someone from the legendary line of skywalker and solo could fall to the dark again. He wasn’t flat, he was a tortured boy that was conflicted since the first movie. How great would it have been to see him as a conflicted supreme leader, which was set up in TLJ. But *gasps* a plot of his very own, no can do, this is the nature of JJ’s crush on Rey and Daisy.
Disney released comics that made us sympathize with him, to see that all along he was manipulated by Snoke, and Palpatine the voices in his head. Neglected by those who were supposed to love him. Adam Driver was cast perfectly, he had almost no lines that weren’t related to Rey’s charcater arc. If he were a woman I’m sure everyone would be offended. That single line’s delivery “Dad-”
Come on Poe had more lines than him, and Driver according to JJ was half of the protagonist. He was pitched an arc opposite that of Darth Vader that’s why he signed. Man JJ really did do everyone dirty.
8. Ben had no lines while redeemed other than “ow”...I am so sorry ADAM that this nasty ass JJ did this to you...this part was 100% improv by Adam, I am willing to bet my life on it. You know why “ow” was brilliant? Cause it meant he felt pain and emotion, he was no longer hiding behind the hardness of Kylo REN. Adam’s performance as Ben left me speechless, he was convincing as Kylo, intimidating...but as BEN he shines in the way only Solo’s can. The way his eyes become determined once he accepts he must give his life, and he does so happily for the love of his life. His soulmate. Star Wars and JJ never deserved the talent that is Adam Driver.
9. They are supposed to be equals in the force yet they missed the opportunity to fight Snoke together. Tell me how they are equals. He existed only to further Rey’s plotline.
Oh and the other Jedi including Anakin whisper and help Rey...when his own grandson has been asking for help in distress for like 30years. Nice real nice.
10. Finally Reylo:  it felt unearned cause there was no buildup, JJ just threw it in for kicks forgetting all the P&P parallels he was shooting for. An afterthought. Driver and Ridley’s acting saved the day, they had no lines.  Adam Driver is truly one of the finest actors. You could see the difference between Ben and Kylo in his subtle gestures...the sass was pure Han Solo.
11. And then the death: I wouldn’t even say we won, but at what cost. We won in no way. Had he died fighting I would have understood, but this death was so unnecessary and put in just for the fanboys. Let me say again I would have been okay with death had it been justified.  How is this any different than Vader x Luke. JJ can only copy not create. How crazy that you can just bring people back from the dead...Anakin is here like, am I joke to you? I could have brought Padme back say what???? What was the point of his whole fall to the dark. The force is infinite, that’s the whole point...once you know how to use it you can’t run out of it like juice. Oh, and Ben did not become one with Rey but rather the Force according to the Disney website. So why pray tell did he not appear as a force ghost? I’m convinced JJ was on crack.
12. No Mourning BEN no acknowledgment:  5 seconds! And then she moves on from losing her soulmate, half of her soul. She loses it over Chewie but nothing, no emotion not even a second over her other half. Seriously? No one ever knows Ben came back...nada. JJ set up Reylo, time and time again he has said that he crafted the story around the romance. He was left scrambling after Last Jedi and this was a last-ditch shock ending. No Reylo theme song, no across the stars
13. Last Jedi told us you don’t have to come from a powerful family to be important. THE WHOLE thing was that you could be force-sensitive and be a nobody. Nobodies can become somebody. A Hero is not born but made. The force lives in all beings, not just powerful families. It inspired me, what a great message to young guys and gals. Kylo’s line, “you come from nothing, you are nothing...you have no place in this story” finally turns out true. You have to come from something to have a part in the Star Wars story. And Rey had darkness inside her cause she was human. Because none of us are pure, we are shades of grey. But no, it’s cause darkness only runs in families. In the Last Jedi when she wants to see her family all she sees is herself and a shadow (Ben) who joins with her. Please do explain this JJ. And if this granddaughter thing was set up I would have had no problem...but they pulled it from their asses. You can have nothing but mean something. But no pander to the fanboys. In the end, a Palpatine lived and all the skywalkers ended....and we are supposed to have hope. Palpatine really did win.
14. Rey’s biggest fear was ending up in the desert alone, we were told “the belonging she seeks is ahead not behind” and “there’s someone who could still come back”. They mentioned she felt just as alone with the resistance. Only the other half of her soul understood her. This is truly tragic and sad...I am so heartbroken for her. And don’t tell me she isn’t there to stay...the soundtrack is called “a new home”. Enjoy the rest of your days being exactly where you started Rey....but hey at least you got a droid boo. I’m convinced this is not the balance JJ envisioned in the first movie. At one point in TFA Rey looks up sees an old woman alone, scavenging in the desert. This rattles her to the core and it starts her journey of wanting a better, different life. I am so sorry Rey. Okay so you may say she has the resistance and her friends...but let’s consult the last Jedi. In the end when everyone is on the ship...Rey is surrounded by friends yet looks more alone than ever. No one but Ben, maybe Luke, Leia, and Han understood her pull to the dark.
How sad that these two hopeless souls who had never known a moment of belonging and true love, found it for all but a few seconds.
I will quote: “preventing female characters with strong, compelling narratives from experiencing love, intimacy, and affection is just as regressive as reducing them down to sexual accessories. Assumes that women must choose between a romantic interest and depth of character”
Men really can not write good female characters, can they? A woman really can’t be a badass and end up with the love of her life
15. The Skywalker’s and Redemption: How truly truly sad that Han and Leia gave their life for their son who also died at a young age. ALL the Skywalkers and Solo’s have a tragic end. This is not what George Lucas wanted. What a tragic way to end this saga...they weren't able to break the curse. AND to all those troubled kids out there that lashed out and made terrible mistakes in their youth....doesn’t matter what you do dying is the only way out. You could have exiled him, made him pay in other ways. Nothing can be done to make up for your sins but death, no amount of good means that you can come home. To the young boys that get wrapped up in terror organizations, sorry the only way you can be redeemed is death...don’t bother changing and coming back. They could have exiled him, had him start an academy with Rey for Jedi kids. He could have spent the rest of his days redeeming himself. Why tell us he was literally preyed upon, haunted, and manipulated as a child. Even in a fantasy world, a victim of mental illness and abuse can not catch a break. Ben as a child could not fall asleep due to the demon-like voices in his mind. Everyone abandoned him in his time of need. Ben never desired power like Anakin, he went over to the dark because “the voice” of his grandfather promised belonging. I am shocked that this is the message Disney sends us. Oh and yeah you can totally take on the Skywalker name for kicks...the disrespect I swear
16. The worst bit is that I am 90% sure there was another ending that was scrapped.  There was a promo shot of Jannah in a field, soft lighting, lush planet. It was exactly like P&P. Daisy Ridley said the lasts scene was known to only Her, Jannah on that panel (Driver was away). Convinced Jannah was looking at Rey and Ben starting a new life away from the desert which she and Luke hate so much. Hence the production of “A New Home” soundtrack. Hence why the “Farewell” song played behind Reylo kiss was hopeful. Why Luke’s soundtrack when he became part of the force was not triumphant. Why the death scene was sudden and cut weird and no sorrow from Rey. CAUSE THEY SCRAPPED THE ORIGINAL ENDING LAST MINUTE.  Everyone knows JJ was still editing one month before. The concept art which was supposed to be released this month has been pushed to March. Why you ask? They need to remove the pages with a happy ending. He just didn’t have the guts, pandered to everyone and yet no one. He was successful in creating a beautifully filmed action-filled movie with none of the heart of Star Wars.
And then she goes and buries Anakin’s saber on freaking TATOOINE. He HATES Sand and Luke wanted to get away from there as soon as possible. Of course, a Palpatine would torture them that way. But nostalgia is the cash cow so. JJ can only generate nostalgia, not create original stories. IF he had any creativity she would have buried it at Padme’s grave.
Tumblr media
The fanboys say “leave the romance for the romance movies”....have you seen the original trilogy or the prequels? Star Wars has always had hope and romance entwined with it.
SO AFTER 40 YEARS...PALPATINE WINS...HIS BLOODLINE LIVES ON
...and people thought the prequels were bad
JJ you also said that your goal was for people to come out of the movie feeling more hopeful and happy then they went in...yet here I am. My roommate literally had to console me and buy me ice cream. I am just so numb. I am sure the casual fan will enjoy this, as seen from the rotten tomatoes ratings. I think the critics were too generous with this one,
Star Wars is very simple at its core, Good vs Bad and Dark vs Light. The kids are expected to understand that a Palpatine being the only one who lives is hopeful? That is the conclusion of three generations of Skywalker sacrifice...
This is how the Skywalkers are remembered...In Tragedy and Curse??
Taehyung must be superhuman. How he had managed to go to sleep with only a few hours left before college and still be awake and gone in time, eluded you.
You, on the other hand, were still tired as you tried to convince your body to crawl away from the warm covers long after the sun had risen. Not that you had anywhere to be. Once again, Taehyung had left food and water right beside you, and even the painkillers you took yesterday.
Groaning, you let your head fall back onto the pillow.
You inhaled deeply through your nose, then finally sat up, eyes still shut. Familiar pain lanced through your side at the movement, making you grit your teeth. At least your eyes were forced open in order to grab a pill.
Next, you figured there was no use lying in bed all day. Open the curtains which were still drawn. Great. What next?
As if in answer, your stomach growled a bit, so you sat back down to eat.
What next?
Teeth. Shit, you hadn’t cleaned your teeth in over a day now.
With dim hope, you made your way to the bathroom, but to your surprise, an unopened toothbrush sat by the sink.
Unfortunately, the surprise of a toothbrush turned out to be the biggest excitement of the day until Taehyung came back home. By that time, you had given in to lying down, mapping out the blemishes on the bedroom ceiling, so the moment you heard voices, you sprung up.
Peering around the door first, you saw Taehyung waving at someone on his doorstep. You waited until they had left and the door closed behind him to come down the stairs.
“Hey.”
“Hey.”
You followed Tae through to the living room where he dropped his bag carelessly beside the sofa, reminding you unwillingly of days when you were younger, waiting up when your dad was late home and latching onto him straight away.
So you hung back, chewing your lip without realising.
“How’s college?” you asked his back as he went to the kitchen.
“Yeah, it’s okay,” he said, coming back around the corner with a drink, “nearly fell asleep in Professor Han’s lecture though.”
“You still take his class? I dropped that the minute I could,” you chuckled.
“I think you made the right decision,” the corners of his mouth turned up even as he took a sip. For a moment he savoured the drink, then lowered it.
“They’re talking about you.”
“They are?” you took a step forward as he nodded, but he quickly held up a hand.
“Hey, curtains,” he reminded you, then tossed his head behind him, “you should come round to the kitchen.”
A glance behind you revealed wide open curtains, so you sped out of sight and down the hall, meeting him where he now leant against the island.
“Did you really think they wouldn’t notice you going missing?”
“Well, I guess not,” you shrugged, “them knowing, is it… bad?”
“Bad? No,” he grinned, “I’m still going to hide you.”
“Thanks,” you smiled back, then, “have you… has Jungkook, you know…?”
“Oh, um,” Taehyung’s grin faded, telling you all you needed to know, “that was him at the door, but he hasn’t had the chance to look for him yet. Sorry.”
“It’s okay.”
Staring at your hands, you mentally cursed yourself. Clearly the time you spent doing nothing had got to you, to make you so impatient.
“Hey, look at this,” Tae was suddenly smiling again, and you watched as he raised the now empty bottle like a dart in his hand before shooting it off towards the bin, where it bounced from the rim with a hollow clunk.
Unable to help the laugh that burst from you, you collected it from the floor.
“My turn!”
Taehyung laughed and stepped aside while you lined up your shot, but just as the bottle left your hand, he pushed your arm and sent it careering off into the wall.
“Hey!” you elbowed him as he creased in laughter.
The next thing you knew, he was running around the island towards the fallen bottle. Realising this, you took off too, shouting after him, but were too late to wrestle it from his arms.
“You cheated! Let me try again!”
Your shouts were in vain as he easily held off your flailing body and dropped the bottle into the bin at last, then proceeded to do a victory lap. Scoffing, you stuck your leg out to trip him up as he reached you again.
“Sorry, sorry,” he lied as he got his breath back between laughs, “draw?”
“No, you win,” you rolled your eyes, “what should be your prize? I could cook tonight?”
His eyes lit up, grin still wide as ever, and accepted your offer.
Really, cooking wasn’t a punishment for you. After the most boring day on earth, you were happy to be doing something with purpose, and it came with the bonus of treating Taehyung for taking you in.
Later, once you had stored in your memory the cupboard where he kept the pans, and where the salt was, you finally sat down to eat- on top of the counter.
Still being light outside, you both agreed you couldn’t sit in the living room due to the open curtains, and this had led to your current state. Your knees were touching as you both sat cross-legged facing each other to eat from the bowls in your hands. Unfazed, Taehyung was wolfing it down in enormous bites, but you hoped that meant it met his approval.
“I have to go out again,” Taehyung spoke, causing your heart to sink, “the food was really good, by the way.”
Jumping down from the countertop, he looked up at you.
“Want me to get anything while I’m out?”
“Oh, no, no,” you assured him automatically.
However, this made him stop, turning back to you fully.
“Really? I don’t mind getting anything. You pretty much live here now so you don’t have to be polite.”
You furrowed your brows, mind instantly going blank as you tried to think.
“Maybe a book?”
“Sure,” he nodded, then his eyes widened, “wait, should I get you two? Five? What have you been doing all day without a phone or going out?”
“It was okay,” you tried, but quickly conceded, “okay, I was sort of bored out of my mind but-“
“Okay, I am definitely getting books. What’s your favourite food? We can have it tomorrow,” he suggested.
“I love anything with chocolate,” you smiled, “and I like most things, but… Italian?”
He smiled back at you just as his phone buzzed aggressively against the counter.
“Oh, shit…” he muttered as he turned it over, “I really need to-“
But he was in the hallway by then.
Tumblr media
You fell asleep waiting for Taehyung to get back. Honestly, cooking had tired you out, as embarrassing as it was. Earlier you had found yourself needing to pause and catch your breath a few times while making dinner, but you supposed that was a minor side effect of being stabbed. It could have been much worse.
Washing up had been the final straw, after which you promised yourself you would find the energy to go and find the red pills after a short lie down.
A promise easily broken.
When Taehyung found you, you were sort of sitting, half slumped, against the headboard. As he shook you, sleep was reluctant to let go.
Therefore, by the next morning, you didn’t even remember seeing the boy. It barely crossed your mind that your clothes had changed and you were under the duvet. You were excited about the books, though.
Of course you hadn’t had time to give Taehyung any detail on what books you enjoyed, but anything was better than nothing, so after breakfast you began to read. It seemed he had been to the library at college given the stamps on the inside cover, but it was never open late and Taehyung had left in the evening yesterday.
Strangely, you didn’t feel too strongly about him having potentially broken into the place. Wow, your life really had got boring fast if even crime now counted as excitement. But if only you could go with him, break in somewhere for an adventure-
You shook yourself.
There was a small stack of books, non-fiction (being from a college library) and ranging from art to music to fashion.
Today, you didn’t run to Taehyung like a small child when he got back. Despite being later home than the previous day, he actually had to knock on the bedroom door to shake you away from the book you had almost finished.
“Oh sorry, hi!”
“Evening,” he smirked, stepping into the room to reveal a bag in his hand.
“Is that-!” you gasped at the smell wafting from it, and he grinned.
“Italiano,” he faked an accent, making a chef’s kiss with his free hand.
Practically bounding from the bed, you eagerly joined him on the kitchen counter again.
“I am so full,” you groaned after the last bite of pizza was gone.
“Really?” Taehyung raised his eyebrows.
“Yes, really! I just ate that whole thing!”
“That’s a shame…” he looked at you, amusement lingering at the edges of his mouth, “I guess I’ll have to have this by myself then.”
Your eyes grew huge as he leaned over to a drawer, pulling out an enormous chocolate bar. Paying no mind to your staring, he opened it and took a large bite, eyebrows drawing together in pleasure.
“Hey, wait-“
“I thought you were full?” you could barely make out his voice around the mouthful of chocolate.
“Can’t I have just a bit?”
“I don’t want you to be sick-“
Just then, you lost patience and took a swipe at the chocolate, but were easily evaded.
“Tae-“
Another bite.
Almost growling in frustration, you lunged forward, but he swiftly slid off the counter and took off down the hall, waving the bar over his head.
You had no choice but to give chase.
Taking the stairs two at a time, you caught up to him in the bedroom doorway and wasted no time in tackling him, throwing your arms around his waist.
“Hah! I win!”
You yanked the chocolate from his grasp and were raising it to your mouth at last when you saw his face.
As if he had burnt you, you shot up, taking your weight off him. All humour had suddenly gone from his expression, though an unconvincing smile appeared as he sat up, a hand hovering over his ribs.
“You won,” he laughed. But you weren’t having it.
His smile fell rapidly when you didn’t respond. Something was wrong.
“What is it? Did I hurt you?”
“No, it wasn’t you,” he looked down at the floor.
Lowering yourself to sit opposite him, you fixed him with a stare.
“Taehyung…”
“There was another attack tonight. Shinhyuk took someone out in one of our bars this side of town.”
“Wait… took someone out? You mean he actually-“
A grave nod.
“And… and you-?”
“I was there with Jin and Hoseok to collect something. Then, next thing, the bar goes into chaos, people saying we couldn’t get out. Shinhyuk caught a big dealer of ours as he was leaving, and shut the place down for… I dunno, dramatic effect? But we got in a fight with the men on the door to get outside…”
“Shit,” you breathed, “I’m so sorry, can I do anything?”
“It’s just bruised,” he shrugged, standing at last, “now eat your chocolate.”
Tumblr media
For once, you were awake early enough to see Taehyung leave, his bruised knuckles lingering on the door before finally it clicked shut.
Two books later he came home.
Although you had sworn not to go downstairs after last time, you had been thirsty enough to risk it today. Being out of breath after just one set of stairs was worrying, but found the red pills you had forgotten about in the kitchen as you filled up your drink. Gulping one down, you hoped missing a couple wouldn’t affect you.
Then your fears came true.
A click heralded the opening of the door, and you were instantly moving out of sight. Pressed against the wall by the side door of the house, you prepared to open it and run if you had to, though you knew you wouldn’t be able to keep going for long.
“Y/N’s upstairs, I’ll just tell her I’m back-“
Your eyes closed as you let yourself breathe again.
“Uh, Taehyung,” you spoke, making yourself known in the doorway.
He stood on the lowest step, Jimin and Namjoon standing behind him in the hall.
Hastily, you apologised and passed them to go back upstairs, complete with your glass of water. It became clear soon after that an important discussion was being had, their voices sounding serious even though you could barely understand them from up here. Luckily, it was easy enough to make a guess as to their topic of conversation.
“He’s fighting a war with no opposition right now! He’ll steamroller us if we don’t do anything,” Namjoon’s voice was rising, and now that your book lay discarded beside you, you couldn’t help but hear. Perhaps it was against your better judgement, but the situation was relevant to you, and besides, you needed some drama to liven up your boring life hiding away.
“But Jungkookie told us he might already be in danger,” Jimin fired back.
A loaded pause.
“You know I wouldn’t put him in harms’ way. Never question that – I would do anything to protect every one of you. But that’s exactly why we need to do something.”
Taehyung’s voice cut in here, lower in volume, shepherding the conversation away from your prying ears.
“We need a plan.”
Endeavour: Why Isn’t Fred Thursday in Morse’s Later Life?
https://ift.tt/3EkpSPm
Warning: contains plot details for Series 8 Episode 1 ‘Striker’
“A man only gets one father,” Fred Thursday told Morse in Endeavour series one, when the young officer was demurring about returning home to attend his dad’s deathbed. Of Thursday’s many sayings, this one proves the least true in Endeavour’s case. Morse had one father, yes – a strained relationship with an estranged man whose dying words to his constable son were that he’d never liked the police – but in Fred Thursday, he also had another.
Has another, that should say, as Thursday is still very much part of Morse’s life. It’s a hard-to-ignore fact though, that a separation between the two is inevitable and fast-approaching. Roger Allam’s DCI was invented solely for the Inspector Morse prequel and is therefore absent from Morse’s later years. Endeavour creator Russell Lewis built Thursday and Morse’s relationship in the knowledge that eventually, he would have to tear it apart. Whether in this series or the next, something is going to happen to make Morse never again mention the name Fred Thursday. The question is: what?
The seeds of a conflict between the erstwhile mentor and his brilliant young student had already sprouted in series seven, which saw Morse and Thursday at loggerheads investigating the case of the Towpath Killer. Morse criticised and undermined Thursday’s police work, and Thursday angrily reminded the erudite youngster that not every case is a crossword puzzle that can be solved using anagrams, opera, or the periodic table. Their animosity led to an embarrassing stand-up fight over the corpse of a victim, and a falling out only becalmed after a letter of apology and a Venetian canal-side shoot-out.
Though the series eight opener ‘Striker’ ends on a note of warmth, with Morse remembering never getting chosen for sports teams at school and Thursday remarking “I chose you,” the distance has already set in between them. The days of cosy lunchtime pints, when a word of paternal encouragement from Thursday was enough to lift Morse’s spirits, are gone. (These days, Morse’s spirits are more likely to be found in a hip flask, as the formerly teetotal new recruit has decidedly slid into the habits of the old gumshoe he’s to become.)
At one time, Morse and Thursday were a two-man team against the world. Driving the roads of Oxford, swapping theories and saving the world. Morse made solves Thursday never could have, and Thursday advocated for his unlikely bagman’s brilliance to Bright and others, having spotted the potential of Endeavour’s unusual mind right from the start. Much has happened since Thursday tenderly covered an injured Morse with an overcoat on the family sofa and let him sleep surrounded by the familial warmth of the Thursday home.
No small amount of what’s happened is between Endeavour and Fred’s daughter Joan, or “Miss Thursday” as Morse affectionately calls her. They grew close after Endeavour’s daily trips to the Thursdays’ semi-detached to drive Fred to work, and shared a terrifying ordeal in series three finale ‘Coda’, when both were held at gunpoint during the raid on Joan’s bank. Theirs is less a will-they-won’t-they relationship than an if-they-will-they-won’t-for-long romance. Once again, a Damoclean sword hangs over the pair. Fans know that Inspector Morse remains a lifelong bachelor, so any love they share is doomed not to end in anything lasting.
TV
Endeavour: Will There Be a Series 9?
By Louisa Mellor
Series eight sees Joan, now a social worker caring for neglected children, accept a dinner dance invitation from Morse’s former flatmate and future superintendent Jim Strange. That supports a theory held by some fans that Joan is destined to become Mrs Strange, a character about whom we know nothing from the Inspector Morse TV series or original Colin Dexter novels. Seeing the ambitious woman of conviction he loves settle for a man as pedestrian as Jim Strange may well be enough to break Morse’s heart and put him off relationships for good. Judging by the cynical, heavy-drinker Endeavour becomes, in that case Miss Thursday would surely have made the right choice, though that’s a chicken-and-egg situation if ever there were one.
One thing sure to drive an unmovable wedge between Morse and Fred Thursday would be if Morse were to mistreat Joan. Fred and Win love their daughter fiercely, and if Morse hurt her badly, it’s easy to imagine that no amount of affection or history between Morse and Fred would bridge that divide. Thus far, Morse has always been – to use Joan’s words – the perfect gentleman towards her. He covered for her when she snuck out to a club with DS Jakes, and warned Jakes to treat her well. When she left home, traumatised by the bank raid, and ended up living unhappily with a married man, it was Morse she wordlessly phoned for help. When that married man kicked her out, pregnant, it was Morse’s doorstep she showed up on. And when Morse saw the black eye her boyfriend had given her, it was him who could barely contain his rage, and then offered to marry her.
Heartbreak is one possibility, grief is be another. The terminus Endeavour is heading towards may not be Morse losing Joan to another man, but losing Joan altogether. Her social work role has already led to crossover with police investigations. Perhaps she becomes fatally entangled with a dangerous case, which is what causes Endeavour and Fred’s rift. After the murders of Constable Carter (whom Fred took under his wing in much the same way as he did Endeavour) and DC Fancy, we’ve seen how Thursday holds onto guilt. How might he react if Morse made a mistake on a case that lost him his daughter? The shame and pain would surely be enough for Morse to want to close a door on the Thursday family in his mind, while the grief could send Fred and Win away from Oxford and the memories it holds.
If Endeavour’s creator allows Joan to live, then there’s another choice of potential victim: Fred. After all, when the series seven voiceover told us “This is a love story,” we all knew it really meant the father-son love between Endeavour and Fred, not Morse’s operatic entanglement with Italian minx Violetta Talenti. To lose Fred, and to perhaps be responsible for Fred’s death, would certainly be painful enough for Morse to wipe the man from his memory. Though seemingly indestructible (Thursday has both taken a bullet and coughed one up, not to mention his rooftop near-miss, gangland scrapes, war years, and that tiger), there are only so many times Endeavour and Fred can save one another’s lives. Perhaps what we’re working towards is the moment when Endeavour arrives on the scene too late. (Actor Roger Allam, for one, is hoping that Thursday goes out in a spectacular death scene.) After all, some coppers never do get to hang their Winchester over the fire place.
Whatever causes the breach, when he loses Fred Thursday, Endeavour won’t just be losing a guvnor. When Fred asked Morse’s neighbour Monica to check in on him and call night or day if he needed him, he may have said he was just a colleague, but that’s not so. He’s family. To the end.
Endeavour series eight is airing on Sundays at 8pm on ITV.
Shelbys at Somme: Chapter 8
Thomas X Reader
3744
Summary: Tensions grow between Grace and Reader when Grace is informed one of her co-workers is dead. Reader meets Ada.
by @adventuresintooblivion
Grace was due for a rendezvous yesterday, but she hadn’t a moment of free time until the Garrison Pub closed its doors two hours after it was supposed to. She had called into the station, but no one answered, which led to her practically sprinting to the nearest cabby who might take her to see Inspector Campbell.
After an all too expensive ride, Grace strode into Inspector Campbell’s office, clutching her purse between herself and the world. At first he didn’t even look up from his papers. It wasn’t until Grace cleared her throat that he spoke.
“You’re late.” He slowly looked up. Something about his posture had changed since last Grace saw him. While before he had stood tall and proper, now he held a tension in his movements.
Grace glanced down. “The Pub kept me working late yesterday. Everything was closed by the time I was free to contact you.”
Inspector Campbell grumbled, “You could’ve come over.”
She raised her eyebrow. “To your house Sir? Isn’t that dangerous?”
Not to mention wildly inappropriate?
The Inspector ran his hand through his thinning hair. “Yes, I suppose you’re right. But your father would want me to look after you, so I can’t have you missing deadlines like this.”
“If you don’t mind my asking, why didn’t you send anyone now?”
It was his turn to break eye contact. “Something has happened. I’m not sure how big it is, so I didn’t want to endanger your cover just in case.”
“What happened?”
He grimaced, “We questioned that girl you gave us a picture of. We’d been keeping an eye on her, but when she contacted Thomas and stuck around we thought he might be trying to fence the guns through her.”
Grace felt blood rushing in her ears as the world dropped from underneath her. “W...Who did she turn out to be?”
Inspector Campbell shrugged, “Y/F/N. She was an old war buddy of his. Worked in his company as what they called a Runner. Distracted the Germans while they dug.”
“She joined the army and fought?”
The Inspector nodded but didn’t elaborate. He started shuffling through papers until finally he held one out for Grace. When she took it there was a list of names with Y/N’s picture next to it. Each name had a different occupation listed next to it along with locations.
Grace frowned, “Is this all her?”
He shrugged, “Supposedly, though she’s never done jail time for anything. I’m half convinced most of these she just made for fun.”
“So how did you get her to come in? I didn’t think she’d be the type to offer up information for free.” Grace folded the paper and tucked it away in her purse.
Inspector Campbell’s features darkened. “Oh, it wasn’t free. She gave us no choice, we had to corner her. When she tried to escape, she killed Matthew.”
She froze, “Matthew’s dead?”
He nodded. “The funeral is this weekend. Due to your current assignment, I can’t allow you to attend, but we are all pitching in to help his wife and son. At least until she can figure something out.”
Grace nodded and practically threw what little cash she had on hand at him. She’d always liked Matthew. They’d bonded during the late hours working to neutralize the IRA. When Inspector Campbell had offered to take them both to Birmingham, Grace had even helped him pack up his whole family. Now he was gone.
Something about the situation didn’t all she could think about was her friend’s tired smile. “Please tell me you at least got something.”
He paused for too long but Grace was desperate for an answer, “We have a possible location.”
She nodded. It was all she needed to keep going, to not run out of here right now and give Y/N a sound lashing.
The next day Grace wiped her hands on her apron, her foul mood having settled in to stay. Her mind kept wandering back to images of Matthew. While Inspector Campbell hadn’t gone into details about his death, her imagination provided plenty of gory details for her to mull over.
She knew Y/N was upstairs. Hell, the topic of last night’s search party was all she heard about all day. Details were fuzzy at best but from what she could gather Tommy had roused half the Peaky Blinders in the late hours of the night to track her down.
Grace tried to strike up conversation multiple times with her patrons, but they were all dead on their feet. Several of them went so far as to nap next to the pints they’d been nursing moments before. Even Harry’s stern glares weren’t enough to keep them awake.
Yet Grace was determined. If she couldn’t get information from them, she’d get it from Thomas when he returned.
It was late afternoon by the time Y/N awoke. For the first few moments she lay there perfectly still and enjoyed her last couple minutes of peace. Then she shifted and it was all over. Her muscles spasmed, causing her to lose her breath for the briefest moment.
“Well, damn, I was wondering when you’d join us.” Nearby a woman sat with a book splayed open on her lap.
Y/N slowly sat up, her arms shaky beneath her.
The woman stood suddenly. "Hey now, don't you think about getting up alright? Tommy gave me strict orders to keep you off your feet."
Y/N chuckled, "Thank you for the attention, Miss…?"
She waved away Y/N's feeble attempts to dismiss her, "The name is Ada Shelby."
A smile spread across Y/N's lips. "So you're Ada? I was wondering when I'd get to meet you."
She nodded proudly, "The one and only. Now listen here, missy. You'll not get out of this bed until you're healthy again. You hear me?"
"Yes, Ma'am." Y/N tried to hide her growing smile.
Ada ruffled Y/N's hair. "Don't be cheeky with me. You're the one that got caught by a copper of all things. Now, what would you like to do today?"
Y/N shrugged. "Just grab me a couple books and I'll be fine. If you need to go do something I don't need to be babysat."
"Well, while that might be the case I'm not supposed to really be out and about either." Ada fidgeted with the ties on her dress.
Y/N raised her eyebrow. "I'd ask how come, but it doesn't look like you're comfortable sharing."
"I know I can trust you, otherwise you wouldn't be living above the Garrison right now. No it's just… I haven't said it aloud yet. Not to anyone except Aunt Pol."
Y/N shrugged, "I mean, I'm not really sure where I stand. So really, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to."
Ada sat back, drawing her shawl closer around herself. After a moment Y/N noticed it was the same as Pol's just a different color. Wonder which one of them knits.
Then Ada spoke so softly Y/N almost missed it, "I'm pregnant."
The words hung in the air allowing their weight to settle as the implications slowly became clear.
Y/N bit her lip, "And you've only told Pol. Yikes."
She glanced down, "Yeah, he's missing too. Do you think.. He’ll come back?"
"I'm not exactly the expert on that. “Y/N paused for a moment. “But I did also come back from the dead. That’s a weird case though, so I’m not sure I’m the best person to ask."
Ada smiled sadly at her. "You really came back for Tommy?"
Y/N blushed, "Don't say it too loudly. You're gonna make me sound like even more of an idiot."
She burst out laughing, the color returning to her cheeks. "Come on, let's get you some breakfast."
"I didn't get a chance to buy any groceries yet." Y/N bit her lip.
Ada bounced back up excitedly. "Don't you worry about that. I stopped by the market on the way here."
"I hope you're not hurting for money then, because I have absolutely no way to pay you back right now." Y/N felt a pit forming in her stomach. Or pay rent for that matter.
Ada turned towards the kitchenette, the room so small Y/N caught herself checking to make sure the blankets wouldn't get caught underfoot. She rifled through cupboards and moments later the smell of food filled the space between them.
Ada finally answered, "Don't worry about paying for anything, Y/N. Tommy would lose his head if anyone asked you for a dime."
Y/N shifted around until she was sitting at the foot of the bed, closer to Ada. "Yes, making a deal with the Devil is the perfect way to never worry about anything ever again."
Ada threateningly waved a wooden spoon at her, "You calling my brother the Devil? Cause you'd be right."
They burst into laughter, an easy chatter formed between them. Ada remained for a large part of the day. Eventually the sun began to set and the two women were interrupted by a knock on the door.
Thomas waited barely a moment before slowly poking his head in. “I hope everyone here is decent.”
Y/N rolled her eyes. “It’s not gonna be the time you’ve seen me in my underwear, Thomas.”
Ada cast her a somewhat scandalized look but was quickly distracted by Thomas’ soft chuckle. “Yet you looked manlier than most the men you were changing next to.”
Y/N gasped dramatically as she clutched at her heart. Thomas’ chuckle rose into a full on laughter.
“What kind of sorcery is this? I haven’t seen you smile like that since you found out John tried to stick it in the wrong hole his first time.”
“John did what?” Y/N’s mouth fell open in astonishment.
Ada glanced between the two shrugging, “He said his reasoning was that ‘that’s how animals did it.’”
Thomas shook his head. “I still can’t fucking believe-”
Laughter filled the room, however the mood was dampened quickly as Y/N groaned. Thomas rushed forward, kneeling beside the bed while Ada stood nearby frozen as they waited.
Finally, after catching her breath, Y/N grimaced, “Oh stop your fussing. A good laugh is worth a few loose ribs.”
“You’re supposed to be healing,” Thomas growled.
She dismissed his concern with a small wave, “If I spend all my time healing I won’t have any left for living. Stop worrying so much about me Shelby, I’ll be fine.”
He shook his head before turning towards Ada, “Would you mind giving us some privacy? I have to talk to Y/N about a couple things.”
Ada huffed, but soon her steps could be heard receding down the stairs.
Thomas slowly turned back to Y/N. “How are you holding up?”
Y/N shrugged, glancing out the window into the abyss. When did it get so dark?
He took her hand in his, so gently she almost didn’t recognize his touch. “Y/N, don’t spare me the details. I can’t do my job if you don’t tell me how bad it is.”
“What exactly is your job when it comes to me?” Her voice was the barest whisper.
There was a long pause as the answer hung in the air, the one they needed to be said before either of them could move on. It was their last chance to escape from each other; if he pushed her away now, she would leave. Disappear. Once again becoming the ghost of his past.
Thomas bowed his head, pressing his lips to the back of her hand. “I’m going to look after you.”
Only the slightest tremor in her voice betrayed her, “You don’t owe me that, Thomas.”
“Not everything is about payment, Y/N?”
She raised her eyebrow. “Is this the same Birmingham that I left five years ago?”
He released an amused hum from somewhere deep in his throat, finally looking up at her. The dark circles had etched themselves deeper beneath his eyes. A tightness around the corners reminded Y/N of the darkest days in the trenches. Instinctively she reached up to cup his cheek and brush the worry away with her thumb.
“Rough day, Tommy?”
It was as if the whole room released a deep sigh, “It always is.”
Y/N gestured to the chair Ada had been using, “Wanna talk about it?”
Thomas ignored the chair and sat at the foot of her bed, his hip pressed against her leg and his elbows resting on his knees. Old habits die hard, don’t they?
He gathered his thoughts, but soon he was catching her up on a myriad of events. About the horse and the unfortunate turn of events that had taken place. The guns. Thomas’ meeting with Inspector Campbell and how close he had come to throttling the man. Danny’s head being payment for the death of a man he’d caused during an episode of shell shock.
For the most part Y/N listened, offering advice where it seemed to fit, until he brought up Danny, “They want you to kill him with witnesses?”
He nodded. “I’ve already taken care of that. A casing full of sheep brains.”
Y/N couldn’t stop the smile that played across her lips. “This is why I love you. So do you have a good hiding place for the guns or are they still at the docks?”
Thomas’s mind went blank, then suddenly every thought he’d ever had felt like it was clashing together as he registered what Y/N had just said. His heart was pounding in his ears. The room was too hot and not warm enough all at once. It took every ounce of control he had left to control his breathing enough to speak.
“W...what did you just say?”
“Hmmm? I was asking if you had a good hiding spot for the guns yet.”
“No...Um, before that.”
Y/N furrowed her brow, “I was asking if they demanded witnesses.”
Thomas finally let himself look at her. There was no indication that she was messing with him. No tell tale smirk or signature twinkle in her eye. She just sat there confused on why he was asking her to repeat herself. He ran his fingers through his hair.
His voice was gruff when he finally answered, “No, I don’t have a place picked out for the guns yet.” He honestly already had several ideas, but he couldn’t conjure up a single one right now.
Y/N glanced around the room thinking for a moment. “Why don’t you put them in Danny’s grave?”
“He’s not actually dead. I thought I made that clear.”
“Yeah, but if he was dead you’d dig him a grave come hell or high water. So you’ll have to dig him one anyways so that no one gets suspicious. Plus, this won’t be related to any other contraband that the Peaky Blinders deal with so if someone snitches on you, it won’t be there.”
Thomas blinked slowly before he nodded. “That is actually quite brilliant. I’m a little disappointed I didn’t come up with that myself.”
Y/N shrugged, “One of my many random skills, hiding things.”
Thomas wasn’t exactly sure what to say about that, but he had one last thing to tell her. After her slip-up in the previous moment, the words felt like poison on his lips. “I’ve also asked Grace to the races.”
“Did you just need her for a plus one?” Y/N raised her eyebrow.
Just say yes.
“No, Billy Kimber owns the race tracks, and we’re expanding. Making legal money and all that.” He pressed his lips against his clasped hands, wishing he didn’t have to answer what came next.
Y/N frowned, confused. “And what does this have to do with Grace?”
Thomas sighed. “Mr. Kimber is known to enjoy sampling the pleasures of women. She asked to work for me, so I plan on offering her up to him as part of the bargain.”
“Did you ask her if she was ok with that?”
“No.”
She smacked his shoulder, a sharp sting exploding from his arm. “Tommy!”
“Hey, don’t hit me, Ms. Cracked Ribs.”
She shook her finger threateningly at him. “It’s Ms. Broken Ribs to you, and I’ll smack you as much as I damn well please. You can’t just go offering up a girl’s dignity like that.”
Thomas turned and grabbed her hands in his, preventing any further retaliation. “She asked to work for me, Y/N.”
Y/N growled, “She’s not from the underbelly of Birmingham. Or any other city for that matter. You can tell from a god damned mile away. Shit like this ruins women.”
He paused. “You may be right, but I don’t have anything else he wants.”
She let out a deep sigh. “What were you gonna offer him?”
He told her, and she nodded. They sat in silence for a while as they mulled over what to do about all this. At the end of the day they both knew if he brought Grace she would end up having to go with Kimber sooner or later. He expected it to say the least. And it wasn’t just Grace, any woman Thomas brought would be offered up as a bargaining chip.
Finally Y/N spoke, “She may have to go with him, but she doesn’t have to stay with him.”
“And break the deal?”
She shook her head, “Save Kimber. Like tell him she has something.”
He smirked at her. “So much for preserving dignity.”
Y/N shrugged. “At least she won’t have to sleep with him.”
Thomas glanced away, “Yeah.”
Y/N glanced down. Her hands were still in his, though his grip had loosened into something more casual. A small thrill went through her as she realized how much smaller her hands were compared to his.
She stammered as she spoke, “It’s getting late.”
Thomas took a deep breath broken out of his thoughts. “Yeah it is. I’ll head out and give you some peace. If you need anything, come get me.” He stood, letting Y/N’s hands slip from his grasp.
The air was cool on her skin compared to his touch. She found herself following him with her gaze.“Come get you? I thought you lived at the Shelby house?” she asked.
He paused. “I’m going to be staying in the room next door for a while, until you’re better at least.” And with that he was gone.
Y/N awoke in the late hours of the night. Darkness had escaped it’s daily chains, exploded from every nook and cranny and coated the room in a thick film. It took her a moment to shake off the disorientation before she remembered where she was.
Then she heard what had woken her. Through the wall she heard a cry. She couldn’t tell at first what it was for, but then it came again. Thomas.
She stood slowly, pain shooting up her back with every step as she shuffled out of her room and down the hallway. When she finally reached the rickety door she pressed her ear against it.
“NO...Freddie!”
That was enough. Y/N pounded on the door. On a normal day with the noise of people, it would’ve been deep and resounding. But now it was so deafening she caught herself wincing as she hit the wood.
A bewildered voice answered, “Wha..Who’s there?”
“Thomas it’s me. Open up.”
A shuffling sound and rattle later the door opened slowly. Thomas blinked at her blearily with bloodshot eyes. Y/N waited patiently for him to come back to reality just enough.
He asked groggily, “Is everything ok?”
“You’re having nightmares.”
Thomas stiffened, glancing around as if the whole world might be listening. He was about to answer when Y/N stepped forward, gently placing her hand on his chest.
His skin was hot and damp, the sweat having left a small layer that made him glisten in the barest of light. The air inside the room was hot as it poured through the crack in the door, trying to escape.
He placed his hand over hers. “What’re you doing?”
She looked up at him, somehow finding his eyes in the darkness. “Let me in.”
“She says at the entrance of the Devil’s den.” A soft rumble rolled from deep within his chest, a sleepy laugh.
“If you think I’m not a devil myself then I really need to jog your memory.”
“Y/N.”
Every ounce of fight in him suddenly dissolved away. After so many years of nightmares. After so long in the darkness. After watching her die a thousand times in his dreams. He had no will left to say ‘No’.
Y/N pushed her way inside, careful not to bump into anything that could make her fall. The room was much smaller than hers, and the window wasn’t open even the slightest, accounting for the heat.
As she walked inside she let her hand fall from his chest to intertwine with his fingers. Thomas let her lead him back towards the bed. It was actually smaller than the one she had in the other room, but that didn’t stop her from laying down and pressing her back against the wall.
She waved for him to join her, “Come on, Thomas. Before the room becomes freezing again.”
His brows furrowed as he tried to process what was going on. “I don’t think this will help your ribs heal.”
“Just shut up and get in here.”
He crawled in slowly, careful not to jostle her. Thomas paused before laying his head down. Y/N finally got tired of waiting and slid back onto the bed proper and maneuvered him until his head rested on her stomach.
Her fingers ran through his hair as he mumbled, “This isn’t hurting you?”
“The broken ones are higher up. And while I’m pretty sure any doctor would be shitting themselves right now, I’m fine.”
“Y/N,” he protested.
“Hush now, and get some sleep.”
After a few moments he chuckled, “My feet are hanging off the edge a bit.”
She hummed as sleep reclaimed her, “We’ll just have to sleep in mine tomorrow.”
“The scandal.”
“Damn right.”
