I think that swords definitely talk to Mihawk and Zoro like not even just their sword but any sword of worth but especially the "cursed" ones. Like I mean full-sentences talking that only they can hear. And not the general hum of power or bloodlust that people like shanks hear -

And Shanks does not realize that Mihawk means he is having full conversations with his sword when he says Yoru talks to him. Until Mihawk translates something Gryphon says and Shanks is just like 'I'm sorry.....what???"

Isaac found himself, once more, in an odd situation

He was chained to a wall, he looked at his shackles to see that there’s no real chain here, but he’s glued to the wall by this odd blue glow

He liked around the room to see something straight out of a fantasy film, stone walls and wooden furniture, a shelf filled with beakers filled with the oddest parts from animals

And out of the corner of his eye he noticed a box with frilly clothes…

“Great one of those dreams again” Isaac thought

Fuck, he tried to say, but nothing came out…

His mouth was gone

This wasn’t like the usual dreams

Then in walked in someone familiar, the usual tormentor for dreams like this…

This time he’s clad in a big purple cloak, with a massive pointy hat covering his ears

Isaac tried to laugh at Jermiah’s goofy get up, but no sound came out, his mouth was still absent

Jermiah walked up to the for once silent Isaac

They stared at each other for a second, Jermiah glanced across Isaac’s body, filling him with fear, out of habit he tried to insult his captor, but he has no mouth, Isaac realised just how much comfort the distraction of insulting his captor gave him

They share a moment of silence, until Jeremiah speaks

“It’s nice to hear you silent for once”

Isaac is furious, but cannot retort

“You see pet, I’ve grown a little tired of your constant whining, insults and lies, so I decided you’d be better of with no mouth at all”

Isaac glares at his captor

“It was a surprisingly easy spell, and now doing that got me thinking, why stop there?”

“You see I know you’ve been lying to yourself, you keep screaming how you’re a guy, you keep running away from any association with feminity, but we both know you really crave it”

Isaac starts getting flurstered, his mind filled with all the insults and interruptions he wishes he could scream out right now, but he has no mouth

“Now you like feminity, and I think I’d like to be taken care of for once, so I believe we can reach a nice middle ground”

“I’ll use a simple spell to turn you into my doll”

“Dolls have a duty to look pretty, dolls have a duty to serve their creators, and dolls don’t have mouths to spit insults with, an ideal situation is it not?”

Isaac looks in fear his mind raising for what he can do to stop this

“Oh and I forgot to mention: I only know how to make female dolls, so I hope you don’t mind permanently being a feminine servant”

Isaac notices his tail starts to wag, how he who he’s he could just grab it to stop this humiliation, but his bindings are in place

He can’t even make any excuses… his captor can interpret this however he wants

Jeremiah silently smiles

“Now the spell is quite powerful, so as a first component I’ll need to ask you to now state it if you don’t want this spell used on you”

Isaac is relieved! He violently shakes his head, harder than he’s ever shook before, maybe the spell won’t be used!

“I’m not hearing a No, so let’s get started shall we my dear doll?”

Isaac feels his heart skip a beat

“First Lets change your form”

Jeremiah snaps his fingers, and suddenly Isaac feels his shackles release

He tried to run for it, but as he does he hears a SNAP and feels himself lifted into the air

“Now let’s get started” SNAP

Isaac feels his legs suddenly feel stiff, he touches his leg with his hand and feels… wood? plastic? He can’t quite place the texture, but it’s cold and-SNAP

His chest is plastic now too, he notices how he can’t feel his shirt anymor-SNAP

The transformation is up to his arms now, he looks at Jeremiah trying to scream at him to stop or at least wait one goddamn second before snapping again

“Am I going to fast?” Snap Isaac’s hands are now transformed, he glares at Jeremiah “well I thought we better get it over with, since I know you’ll love the next step” SNAP

Isaac’s head is transformed

He notices the lack of heat or cold most of all

Just a complete lack of sensation

“Now don’t you look lovely! It fits you a lot better then I dared imagine!”

“Now on to the next step: your Mind" Jeremiah smiles at Isaac, who's fear is no longer present on his face "we'll do 2 things, first we'll make you Obedient" SNAP

Isaac is gently dropped on the floor

He wastes no moment and runs for the do-"Stop"

Why does he like the sight? Must be due to fufilling his Masters orders and all the other magic his Bast- Wonderful Master has done for him

He returns, holding a notebook “here you go dear doll, if there’s ever anything I can do for you write it on here and show me the note”

He is too kind, too considerate, the doll feels she doesn’t deserve all this…

But maybe being the doll for such a kind Master isn't the worst thing in the world

And now she thinks about it her generous Master also mentioned that one of the duties of a doll was to look good right? She's now curious what other dresses the box holds

Also looking around the room she notices her wonderful Master did not keep it properly tidy, why hasn't her genius Master ordered her to clean it yet? She'd really like such an order

She's bouncing in place actually, she's really excited to clean

"Is there something you want doll? If so just Write"

She Writes

"Well if you want to, then sure Clean!"

She scurries off instantly, starting with dusting and planning ahead for how to reogrinize all the books and materials thrown around the room

"Hahaha, you can get quite passionate can't you?"

She's busy dusting the main table, but still listens intently to each of her amazing Masters words

"You know I've been quite worried about you, I never really knew what to do with you, or what you wanted, everything I did got a response with screams and slurs"

She is dutifully dusting the shelves, and her Master is too kind

"I'm not one to say this stuff normally, I think neither of us are, but I care about you, a lot, and I'm glad to finally see you excited about something, as a magician I can tell, you wanted this didn't you?"

She feels as if she would cry, if she could, but she can't so she continues dusting, she'll do anything for her Master

really love characters who have varied panic responses. kirk stating himself that he does not panic outright, externally, not in high-stress dangerous situations, but instead becomes tense and level like a wound string, on-guard: mostly because his role as captain necessitates that he maintain level rationality even when facing potential death as his training as 'the guy who tells you what to do when shit hits the fan' requires, but also because his childhood experiences taught him early that drowning in the desperate haziness of panic won't help you survive. especially as kirk already follows his intuition so deeply. he learned to grasp and contort the feeling. spock is the main person who represses his emotions, of course, but kirk does it to those deep-set, personal ones (this includes how he doesn't reveal anything truly personal about himself willingly 90% of the time, only what others already know/shallow anecdotes) in a much more subtle way that's really interesting to me. certified expert at avoiding the subject as long as he isnt caught out on the lie. professional bluffer.

in terms of past or parents we dont know much!!! hes known as the heart-on-his-sleeve guy!!! like yes he yells, he gets irritated, excited, hes a whirlwind of quick-thinking and plans and intuition, he goes out of his way to connect with his crew and shows it, when he puts on a little act or bluff he puts his heart into it and clearly enjoys the dramatics so much, at times he wears his heart on his sleeve, he laughs openly and is honest to spock about what he means to him, he's very sun-coded to me in a burning, passionate way, always intertwined with the stars and seeking them out, but when it comes to genuine deep-set turmoil? we dont actually know all that much about him??? hes so full of emotion and character (i love fics where spock characterises jim's mind/bond as a whirl of colour and sensations, hes a quick thinker!!! intuitive!! lively!!!) and yet its still so outwardly surface level. tarsus iv gets mentioned like twice? so especially here where kirk gets briefly jumpscared by the creature, because like:

its subtle but his eyes. his eyesss!!!!! kirk commands with his emotions but there's always some sort of level of control to it, or he transforms them into something that spurs on others or uses them to ascertain a goal: seeing unguarded fear/distress in his eyes even if its faint and brief (in this instance) makes me go insane every single time. like!!! its such a small moment!!! he isnt even panicking!!! really, he just got jumpscared!!! its insignificant!!!!!!! but seeing a two-second flash of actual, naked apprehension is just...oughhh,,,,,,,,,

oh god, and dont even get me started on the galileo seven episode where he assumes a tense level-headedness throughout the whole thing, irritated and apprehensive but not panicking, making sure he maintains intelligent rationality, even when he has to leave them behind, but when spock and the crew are confirmed safe and the bridge is occupied the camera pans to him and his eyes look like they're fucking watering and he's so achingly relieved. don't even talk to me. im. fuck.

he shows so so much but at the same time reveals so little.

It never ceases to amaze me about how many different dehumanizing labels Dream is cast in. The tyrant, the green boy, the bad guy, the wrong’un, the villain, a psycho, psychopath (which tbh are already rather kinda extreme for his supposed crimes especially at the beginning when they started). But then they go further, calling him a snake thing, pure evil, a monster [clip], a freaking ghoul [clip], even to the point of calling him Lucifer in the finale - The Biblical incarnate of evil [clip].

And what’s really interesting is the inconsistency in which Dream reacts - because on one hand he should stand up for himself, but on the other maybe he should just lean into it and maybe they’ll leave him alone. Maybe the fear and label can be his defense instead of their offense. And that gives him control over it, turns him from the victim to the victor.

In the disc confrontation, Tommy calls him pure evil and asks “how do you sleep at night”, to which he responds “just fine” [clip] {oddly, directly contradicting his comment to Techno about no sleeping btw lol…}. Later, he talks about building the prison with a “little bit of evil” but then counters Tommy’s accusation of calling him evil again with “evil is in the eye of the beholder” and “you’re evil to me” [clip].

In the finale, towards the end, Tommy talks about how he saw Dream as nothing but The villain but that isn’t true, and surprisingly Dream disagrees by saying “I am. I tortured you” [clip] {also contradicting what he says to Sam in Daedalus…}. Which is interesting. In the finale, he also makes statements like ‘we can’t because we’re soo evil’ and “we have done plenty of evil evil things” [clip] (which Punz actually counters with “not for no reason.”) But in instances when they call him a psycho and psychopath he has a different reaction saying “huh, I mean, I wouldn’t say that,” [clip] “I’m not a psycho. Everything I do is deliberate” [clip] and, in the finale, “you guys are psychos. You broke in and tried—and killed me in my own house—the prison.” [clip]

One of the keys here I think is the distinction of having reasons - he’s not evil for kicks, he has a reason and motive and logic behind it. Something, in the finale, he questions whether Tommy has, first because he broke in and killed him unfounded and then towards the end of the stream asking about why he constantly steals and griefs and stuff, “why are you trying to ruin everything all the time.” [clip] - What was your reason? Because that mattered to Dream, someone can do evil things but they have their reasons, it’s when they don’t that they are more so truly evil.

He may have done evil things, he may even be the villain, but in his mind he’s not a psycho or pure evil, or a monster because he has reasons, there is a reason he did the things he did, there is a reason he ended up here. Not that those make his deeds justified and less evil (like Sam and Quackity more so believe) but that just makes him a person, who sure does evil, but also feels, and has reasons, desires, and motivations…etc. Just like everyone else. He doesn’t even see Quackity, who confessed to being sadistic and spent months torturing him, as pure evil or even a psychopath instead saying sarcastically in Daedalus, “like Quackity ‘cause he’s full of feelings… He’s totally not a sociopath…” because that distinction between sociopath and psychopath in Dream’s mind is important. Quackity is a bad person but he isn’t the embodiment of evil, he’s just a person who did evil things.

During the first war, Wilbur calls him a little lizard snake thing, to which Dream responds “I’m powerful” [clip]. Which is strange and kinda sad to me that despite being called an actual animal(s), one more importantly often representing evil like Lucifer the snake, he doesn’t counteract it. Maybe because he’s tired of Wilbur calling him similar dehumanizing terms or tired of arguing with Wilbur in general, since everyone believes him anyways. Regardless, he instead rephrases Wilbur’s words - maybe I am a lizard or a snake but you better not step on me because I am venomous and powerful. Which aligns pretty well with his monologue [transcript] where he talks about “Do snakes just bite?” or is there a reason. Because maybe he can’t change Wilbur and Tommy’s metaphor and maybe he can’t change the label of evil despite his attempts because everyone believes them instead, but maybe he can try and use their own words to defend himself. Maybe then they’ll see him as an actual person. {or not…}

is it me or does prsk not really cater towards hardcore yuribait or yaoibait as much even when given the opportunity especially compared to other gacha games, like even the wedding events neither of them was focused on a popular pairing or even just in general with the stories (except for minoharu and vbs i guess?)

Yuribait and yaoibait are strong words that aren't exactly right to describe project sekai. They're just alternative ways of saying queerbait, which implies a marketing strategy of attracting a queer audience by falsely promising representation. While they didn't advertise queer representation, spn and sherlock were accused of this due to the way they wrote their leads (i guess spn did become genuine rep. Ish). Proseka isn't that, neither are similar franchises, like bandori or love live for example. Even if they rarely say things outright, which admittedly is in part because of corporate greed and appeasing fans, I wouldn't say it's queerbaiting, especially for this game and the two I've outlined (well LL has a complicated history but this isn't the time or place). The whole idea of falsely promising queer rep or marketing off it doesn't really happen here, especially in project sekai it feels very genuine and clear even if not labelled. I put this down to the writers saying on record that they want the characters, and their relationships and issues, to feel realistic and relatable.

To actually answer the question now my little media ramble is over, yeah it does feel less compared to other games, especially bandori which gives content to multiple pairings for the same characters. Like don't get me wrong prsk has quite a lot of ship tease when you really get down to it and track through all the stories, but it definitely feels limited to only a handful of pairings. While prsk does give moments for multiple pairings for the same character sometimes it's just... less ig. Again i think it's just to do with the intentionally realistic way of portraying the relationships, so imo it makes sense that they only pick a hanful to give much more obvious or outright romantic subtext to (aka mmj/vbs), even if they still give little moments here and there for other pairings for those characters, as well as giving less-fleshed out or explicitly romantic shiptease for other pairings that don't include those characters (does this make sense? it's hard to talk about shiptease in the game without explicitly talking about shipping. oh well...).

(Also as an aside: mmj is also a bit of a genre thing, and a lot of a Love Live thing. I'm not reaching by saying that either, it showed up on the results to a survey about media the staff at colopale like. mmj does take a few cues from LL here and there, (rooftop practice, genki orange leader, the white feather, airis character design and voice actress) so this is probably one of them)

Even though the wedding events don't usually focus on a ship (aside from the Honami/Kanade one (for context it's honami's most popular ship at least on pixiv, although it's still on the rarer side of things, and it's not that popular in terms of Kanade pairings)), they have always featured popular ships on the card lineups, aside from the most recent one. the first one had cards for the two most popular Akito pairings, and the second one had An/Kohane and Shizuku/Airi. The second one is particularly notable since the event didn't go lightly on the ship tease at all in some parts, though it makes sense since both pairings have romantic text and/or subtext in the story. Even the first wedding event had a tiny bit in one of the card stories, and this year's one managed to squeeze in a scene where Minori imagines Haruka getting married (presumably to her).

We also had the buddy funny spend time event back in 2021, which was explicitly a double date event featuring an/kohane and minori/haruka (again two pairs with romantic text), and we've had other events that follow a sort of similar concept of two popular pairings doing something together, without the double date thing attached, but you can tell what they were thinking lol. I don't really wanna elaborate on that bc I don't wanna start a whole thing but if you look through the event list you can probably work it out.

But then again, this is the Hatsune Miku friendship game. Friendship and community are two of the core themes of the game, which again explains why it might feel like there's less romantic teasing and such compared to other games. Because there is. The events and other stories prioritise writing the platonic relationships over giving ship tease. There's definitely events that you can come out of with little to no moments for the ships you like. This isn't saying that other idol games don't focus on the friendship by the way, I'm just saying prsk has much stronger and consistent themes. From an objective perspective it has the best writing of the major idol games on the market (maybe, idk what's going on in bandori nowadays I've heard MyGO and Avemuji are really good).

Yeah it's the hatsune miku friendship game which prioritises realistic characters and relationships that's about the best way I can put it.

(aside #2: back to the idea of queer content, while they don't write the game, sega is pro-lgbt and is a sponsor of tokyo pride, and offer protections for queer staff. Other sega franchises like Yakuza and Sonic have queer characters! And mizuki is about 5 events away from coming out as trans unless they fumble super badly. So it's a nonzero chance that prsk can and will include textual queer rep in future (i mean they already have lol). It genuinely is down to the realism other fan appeal. Again this isn't to hate on other franchises I'm a huge fan of LL and a casual bandori enjoyer, prsk is just Like This)

i just. love qpac and qcellbit and their weird complex relationships. like when I hear celltw i think of cannibalism and the prison and all the fucked up implications of just. everything that went on there. when i hear pacbit i think of cellbit telling pac e mike that he loves them and that he’s no longer cell and that that monster died, and cellbit telling pac after the happy pills arc that he’s not alone anymore and he’s a hero, and them raising a kid together and joking about their past. like. it’s insane that one character can change so fuckijg much that two different ship names can make me think of two completely different dynamics, even though cell and cellbit are the same exact character in different points in time and celltw and pacbit are essentially the same ship

LIKE cellbit has changed so much but pac has stayed more or less the same and i just wonder what the hell cellbit must look like from his eyes. yk. how one person can change so much that your entire relationship has flipped on its head and now you’re family but you still find yourself scared of who he used to be sometimes regardless of how he’s changed. the duality of these fucking guys. i’m going to eat the floorboards
