More Heavenly Crowyuan thoughts for both you and @someonewhoreadswaaytoomuchfanfic.

As I was thinking up Heavenly Crow Demon ideas, it occurred to me that regeneration and fire are both things associated with Greek phoenixes. Considering PIDW's insane length, surely at least some of the adventures must have monsters cribbed from other mythologies, right?

With this is mind, there is a good chance Shen Yuan looks at his abilities and thinks something like, "Oh, I must have a grandparent who is a many-lived-regenerating-firebird. There sure were a lot of them in that volcanic demon realm mountain range where Binghe met wife 67." and just never question things further. Since Airplane opted not to include heavenly demon crows in his story, Shen Yuan has no idea they're even a possibility!

As sillygoofyqueer noted before, only heavenly demons naturally have Zuiyin marks, but it's really popular for artists to draw such markings on other sorts of demons too. Because of this, I'm fond of the headcanon that all sorts of demons mark their own foreheads either to denote their status or just for the sake of fashion.

I'm sure crow demons, with their love of shiny things, are happy to paint glittery markings on their foreheads, so they might not find Shen Yuan's natural mark all that odd (beyond perhaps the fact he never changes it). For Shen Yuan himself, since he transmigrated in with clothes and stuff, he probably figures the demon he transmigrated into painted it there before Shen Yuan replaced him.

Supposing the other crows do realize Shen Yuan's heritage, one of my many inspirations for crowyuan are the crows in Tamora Pierce's trickster series. Let me tell you, those crows were not impressed by either royalty or gods. If you want their help with something, you need to bribe them with something shiny!

As such, when they look at heavenly demon crows they probably just think things like, "Man, I wish my feathers came with natural gold tips!" and "That guy sure is helpful when driving off invaders!" but otherwise do not care in the slightest... Unless the heavenly demon crow in question uses their abilities to bully and steal from other crows of course. Then they might agree to offer tribute and some token amount of reverence, but they'll mostly just think that crow is an asshole.

I think this is such a silly funny idea as well, and I love the thought of, instead of worshipping the ground that heavenly demons walk on like most other demons, the extent of crow demons' appreciation ends at "...I want those shiny feathers :(" (imagine a whiney sibling's voice as you read that) and other than that, they really do not care about anything like that.

Also, on the topic of Shen Yuan just brushing off everything weird that hints towards his heritage, I can't stop thinking about the idea of him trying to get used to his own body and figure out what perks it has. Every time he comes across something that isn't mentioned in PIDW, he brushes it off with an "it must have been a fluke" or "well, never doing THAT ever again". For instance, when his arm sets alight and it's healed from a fall or something, he kind of pauses before deciding "well, now I'm hallucinating from the hitting my head" and just goes about his day as if nothing happened. One time he accidentally sets something on fire when he's healing (still believing that he is just regularly hallucinating now) and he stares at the ashes of whatever he burned before just gaslighting himself into believing he had a source of fire that caused the flames rather than him doing it.

Hi, how about some spicy headcanons of Husk and how he was different in sex as Overlord and currently

I don't really do headcanon posts, but here are some of the ideas I have about the differences between the two sides of husk:

as an overlord, husk was able to indulge pretty much any sexual whim he had on any given night. between the hangers-on and the dancers at the casino and the fact that he could definitely afford to spend his nights with anyone on Valentino's books that he wanted, he was rarely short of company if he so desired.

I do think that husk, even then, would get tired of casual sex - he might not (let himself) realize why, but he'd prefer seeing the same people rather than nameless faces every night. he was more likely to book time on nights that aren't going his way, and nights he's living large and winning big, then he's bringing familiar faces back to his suite.

like I said, as an overlord, husk is able to sample any kind of kink he wants. he's heavier into bdsm, and he values being the dominant. call him 'sir', 'master', 'daddy'... oh, he's going to make you feel so good.

I think he's a little more selfish in the bedroom as an overlord - because he's high on the power trip and because if he's selfish it's easier for no one involved to get attached, but I also think that husk genuinely gets off on his partners getting off, so he's still going to want to see his partner cum. if that means them jerking themselves off or playing with their clit while he fucks them, then abosolutely.

I think he was a little more careless when it came to hurting partners - he wasn't violent - but he probably didn't check in so often. it was completely normal for his partners to leave the next day with claw or bite marks or hickeys, even bruising from spanking or breathplay, and he loves seeing those marks peaking out of their clothes. Some of his newer lovers wear them like badges of honor - the latest beauty to spend the night with the gambling overlord.

honestly, he tricked himself into believing his relationships meant more to those he saw regularly than they did. there were a few that he let himself feel a real connection to, let himself open up with and he genuinely thought that they might feel that connection too.

now, husk is more reserved. when he lost his status as an overlord, he had the horrible moments where those he'd thought cared for him proved that they didn't. they fell away like the rest of his world, leaving him bitter and alone.

husk is more careful about his partners. I think he has still indulged in casual sex (at least prior to the hotel when he had slightly more freedom in alastor's absence), but he hasn't continued to explore more formal settings of bdsm since his downfall.

I think he's more reticent to hurt others, even consenually, now that he's on the other side of the overlord dynamic. he checks in more often, needs more assurance that this is what his partner wants.

he can still be rough, deliciously so, but he's warier about it now.

I honestly think too that while he had more sex as an overlord, it wasn't in any way because he was more confident in his sinner form. he's never liked how he looks in Hell, but as an overlord, he could lose himself in sex and pretend that he was desirable (he fucking is, the stubborn old tomcat).

but now, he's forced to confront how he feels about his body, in more subtle ways. when he starts sleeping with angel its more intimate than either of them has become used to, but husk's focus is always on making angel feel good and safe, so he's taken aback when he realizes that angel was genuine in his desire not just for husk, but husk's body.

and husk finds himself relearning what he likes - the different erogenous zones that he'd almost forgotten about or been to embarrassed to guide his other partners towards, and fuck does it feel good...

I will die on the soft!dom husk hill, and I can see him being willing to explore more and more kinks not just to help angel work through trauma, but also because angel tells him these kinks can be fun.

my extremely petty and self-indulgent headcanon is that Dabi had started regularly visiting Rei after he joined the League of Villains.

the basis? he lived with a guy who had the best teleportation quirk in the mha universe. and one thing about that guy? he was the dad of the group. sorry not sorry but Mr Daddy Issues was doomed to imprint on him.

more basis? the first thing Touya thought about when he woke up after almost burning to death and spending 3 years in a coma with no idea how he survived or even where he is? 'i need to apologize to mom'. he would be taking that chance if he had it at all.

what about Rei? there's really no reason for her to be faithful to the system the way she for some reason is in the latter part of the manga. some facts from her biography include: being sold by her own family to the man who would offer to buy her, with no possibility to object, becoming an incubator for said man even when she plainly stated she didn't want to have more kids, being abused so badly she was slowly driven into psychosis while being the primary caretaker of 4 children, being aware of her slipping mental state, begging her mother to help her on the phone and being denied that help. then she spent 10 years in a mental hospital and the only people who visited her were her children. this woman's entire life was ruined by the system and by a hero number two personally. the only reason she had started recovering at all and didn't lose her sanity completely was her children, who became her new reason to live and work harder on her recovery. until Shouto came to visit her, 10 years after they were separated by Enji, only Fuyumi and Natsuo were visiting her. and neither of these two was in a good place mentally, both having to raise themselves after their nanny had left and Enji didn't hire anyone else to take care of his teenage children. that, coupled with her guilt over hurting Shouto and mourning Touya's death when he died so young and neither she nor Enji did anything to save her, is an very heavy burden to bear.

with that basis, I truly think Rei not caring about her son being a villain would have been fully in character, had he sought her out before the war. she would have jumped on the first chance to have her eldest son back in her life, and she would have supported him just the same as she supported Shouto. she cares about her children's well-being first and foremost and her life experience allows her to be aware that public approval does not necessarily mean a good thing. she knows her children and she encourages them while being respectful of their boundaries. she never told anything to Natsuo about him moving out and leaving Fuyumi alone with Enji in the family house. she was never showed scornful or disapproving of Touya's training despite the fact Enji literally beat her for it, because she recognized how important that was to Touya. when she started a conversation with him on that topic, she asked 'do you even want to be a hero?'. little Shouto hated the thought of becoming a hero because he hated his father, but Rei still encouraged him, because she saw his admiration of Allmight.

so, if Dabi showed up in her hospital room and announced himself as a villain, I don't think this would make Rei any less motivated to reconnect with her long-lost son. she would want to know everything about his life in the past 10 years, and she wouldn't judge him for any of it. just like with Shouto, she would meet his apology with one of her own, because she felt genuinely guilty and responsible for the way he suffered throughout his childhood, and she would make amends by giving him as much of her attention and support as he would allow her.

also I just adore the image of the three Todoroki siblings coming to visit her unannounced and Dabi hastily hiding under Rei's bed. the funniest family reunion possible.

How are the apartments set up at Shinra HQ? Who’s apartment is next to who’s? Is there any drama between neighbors? Is anyone’s far away, hoping they won’t be bothered?

I'm going to use this post as a reference dump for the headcanons I have, because I think about this a lot lol.

• There are two SOLDIER residence floors within the 49th level accessed by a private elevator that you need an access card to ride in.

• The Third Class apartments are shared between three people, the Second Class apartments are shared between two people, and all the Firsts have their own apartments. *There was a time period right before the war ended where all three Firsts had to share one Third Class apartment because the First Class apartments were still under construction.

• Zack is a Second but he currently doesn't have a roommate, so he takes this opportunity to have Cloud over all the time.

• Zack and Sephiroth are on the top floor, with Sephiroth's apartment being the last door at the end of the looong, large hallway. Genesis and Angeal are on the bottom floor at opposite ends of the hallway. *Due to Angeal's house plant collection, bugs oftentimes proliferate on their floor and get into Genesis' apartment, which he hates.

• The First Class apartments are the more luxurious and spacious ones, complete with floor-to-ceiling windows offering a panoramic view of the city skyline, combo bathrooms, and more space than they know what to do with.

• They usually congregate in either Angeal's or Sephiroth's apartments—Angeal's being the coziest, and Sephiroth having the biggest living room.

• Occasionally someone will set off the smoke detector and cause everyone on their floor to stand in the hallway at 2AM while maintenance deals with it. Zack has a tendency to wake up in the middle of the night, inspired to cook, and has been the culprit a total of 5 times. By the 5th time Angeal threatened to take away his stove. Genesis wakes up from nightmares shooting firaga, and has been the culprit 7 times. Sephiroth's oil diffuser caught fire one time and he thought the best course of action to take was to burn the diffuser into nothing. This didn't work. The two floors had to evacuate because it set off everyone's detectors. They all stood in the 49th floor reception as the fire was dealt with. They all knew it came from Sephiroth's apartment. Sephiroth didn't know this, so he spent a good portion of the night talking to people going "who could've done this?"

• All three Firsts have the keys to each other's apartments, not because they love and trust each other, but because one time they couldn't get ahold of Genesis for half a day, so they broke into his apartment and found out he was stuck in his own bathtub because he thought it was a good idea to submerge himself in essencial oils. He drained the tub but was completely unable to get out without slipping back into it.

• Sephiroth and Genesis regularly have to help Angeal drag up garage sale/flea market steals up the stairwell so nobody sees them. Sephiroth's last straw was when he had to go up and down 49 flights of stairs a total of 32 times bringing up boxes of antique kitchenware. By the 18th time he was having to step over Genesis' presumed dead body on the 38th floor landing.

• Sephiroth loves to meditate, but he is unable to because his apartment is right on top of Genesis', who loves to listen to his music uncomfortably loud.

• Genesis claims he's the one who suffers living under Sephiroth. One time he was woken up at 3AM to the violent sound of a gong being hit. Genesis blew a hole through his roof with firaga, which then shot a hole through Sephiroth's floor.

Honestly he always enjoyed your company, of course at first he was rather grouchy (and an asshole) whenever you were near him. Always giving you a scowl or rolling his eyes when he saw you getting near him, but he slowly started to get used to your company. What!? It's not like he enjoyed your company! Of course not! What a foolish though. (sarcasm)

He got more used to your company, allowing you to be seen more often near him but he was still not used to the gifts you'd give him. He understood it was so he could be more comfortable around you and be more friendly but he wasn't really used to getting gifts. But he didn't really think anything of it

After a while of you two hanging out more often, you both were always seen together, so much to the point people asked if you were dating which of course you both said no, but you both didn't seem uncomfortable with the idea whenever asked... Anyways.. Shane always came over to your farm where you'd always give him a nice meal and a very small amount of beer (each time he came over you'd reduce the amount of beer given and slowly start getting him to drink more water to try and help with his addiction, you'd also regularly listen to him through these meals about any of his problems and in turn he'd listen back) and you two would just chill, watch TV, play some games or go out and fool around!

After a good 4 months though he started to get strange notes... he didn't bother reading them at first until he noticed a word that quickly grabbed his attention, 'love'. He was honestly indifferent towards the letters, he didn't really care for them until he started to get them more and more often. It was rather confusing as he started getting all these letters all of a sudden, and not just any letters but love letters! It was a bit overwhelming to be honest, he never knew anyone would feel such a way towards him, not like he cared much..at first, after a while though he started to wonder who liked him and he even wondered if.. maybe he started to grow attracted to the person just through these letters!

Once you were with him he told you about the letters and even showed them to you, your face turned red and you immediately left him all confused as you wouldn't answer any of his questions on why you were as red as a damn tomato. He never really got his answer for a while. Due to your sarcastic nature you kept on teasing him about the notes and whenever he asked you questions like, "Who do you think it is?" or things of that sort you'd always roll your eyes and just go "oh I wonder who!" in a monotone voice, leaving him a bit confused.

After a while the letters started to die down, but that doesn't mean they got any less romantic, no, in fact I'd say they had even more romance talk than ever! They started to allude to the fact that the anonymous sender of these messages will confess soon, often reading "P.S lots of love, and I promise I'll see you soon <3!" or things to that nature

To be honest he actually started to look forward to these notes, although he found them a bit creepy at first or boring he started to get rather happy? The thought of someone liking him romantically so much to the point they send him love letters and admirer notes was sweet to him in a sense?

One day he randomly went to your farm and barged into your home, you know like how best friends do. He grabbed a few drinks from your fridge as he watched you make a grocery list. You were humming a soft tune while Shane's eyes got wider and wider as he saw you write. He spit out his drink causing you to stare at him strangely. "Shane! The hell dude? You alright?" You'd ask and he just stared at you like '😲'

You look at him like 'wtf?? you okay???' and he just wipes off the juice on his chin and helps clean up the spilt juice. His ears and cheeks were turning red as he did so, covering his mouth and stifling a nervous/awkward laugh.

"Your handwriting... I recognized it from the notes." he says quickly and you just go from "what??" to "WHAT" very quickly, absolutely shocked he could figure it out so easily from such a small detail!. You both stayed in awkward silence for a good 3 minutes as he helped clean.

He let out a cough and just quickly ruffled your hair and looked away "Don't worry.. I like you too.. the letters are uh nice too by the way.." is all he says. You both stay in an awkward silence for another good 5 minutes

After the awkwardness you both have a good talk and decide LETS MAKE IT OFFICIAL!! Yall both like eachother! Yall both wanna be together! So like why not!?!??! And oh wow he is one of the best boyfriends you've ever had :)!

He tries his best to improve his flaws, he knows he's not the best person and he's willing to change not just for himself but for you too, he wants to feel better about who he is now that he has you and he wants you to see him as who he wants to be as well.

You both plan out lots of activities together while dating and such, both of you are pretty much inseparable and no one is surprised you two started dating :)! (I FEEL LIKE MAKING SHANE BF HEADCANONS NOW OMG-)

For your guys' anniversary what he does is make you a letter and sends it with flowers, usually signing it 'secret admirer' and at the bottom he puts a little 'P.S it's actually your bf' just so that you don't get uncomfortable thinking it might be someone else lmao

You get really embarrassed when he brings up the fact you wrote him secret love letters and sent them to him, you thought it was a little cringe of you to do and it made you seem weird, but to him it was rather sweet, he loved it. From time to time he asks you to make some if you're comfortable with since the letters always made his day when he read them everyday! they made him feel better about himself :)!

well if you INSIST (assuming the romance is with the player character here. also keeping these pretty positive and healthy, even though obviously there are plenty of uhhhh messier hcs to be made for this character specifically. i think tumblr will auto-shorten this post but please let me know if it doesn't and i'll add a cut)

in general, any iteration of volo wishes to demonstrate his devotion and usefulness to his partner through action. while he imagines a lot of grand gestures, it usually ends up being pretty mundane in practice. like getting things off tall shelves and tidying up a living space (he's a total neat freak). the exception is volo in a canon divergence where he actually becomes a god, in which case every gesture would be a grand gesture, and it probably gets out of hand

it's extremely important to him that togepi/togetic/togekiss loves his partner. he is genuinely so concerned about this, and fears what would happen if she didn't, despite togepi/tic/kiss being the literal embodiment of joy and love. this insecurity almost certainly stems from the fact that he still can't believe that togepi/tic/kiss loves him

he has read a lot of books and he loves to hear himself talk. also, he's been method acting for like five straight years and makes a living selling people things. the man has a way with words, take that as you will

he's a strict vegetarian (also doesn't eat eggs) for ethical reasons and knows how to cook extremely well to fit his dietary needs. one might expect him to be an "i'll eat a chicken because a chicken would eat me" kind of guy, but because humans have higher intelligence and the capacity for morality, volo holds them to higher standards than animals. therefore, it wouldn't be wrong for a chicken to eat him, but it would be wrong for him to eat a chicken. anyway this is a romantic headcanon because he really really loves to share his cooking, especially if it's a traditional recipe he found while researching history

he has a naturally pleasant singing voice and near-perfect pitch. the volo i write grew up on the mainland and came to hisui as a young adult, so i like to think that he grew up playing the piano and is very skilled, although out of practice. he occasionally hums or sings in front of his partner and it's very nice to hear

he knows how to sew and offers to help the player character make some modern clothing garments they miss from the future. also makes some clothing for them based on his own ideas, because he thinks they would look nice dressed up to his tastes :)

doesn't half-ass anything, especially not in terms of relationships. if he says it's casual, it's because his partner asked to keep it casual and he wants to respect their boundaries and honor their wishes, which is within itself something he does with intention and care

he is simultaneously very aware of the fact that he's beautiful in situations where it benefits him, and completely blindsided by his partner's unprompted acknowledgements of his beauty

loves going on hours-long walks with his partner and sharing/listening to enthusiastic diatribes about niche interests. bonus if the interest is totally unfamiliar to the other person. basically, ancient sinnoh video essays

he likes having regularly-occuring shared activities to look forward to. like, weekly game nights with his partner or taking their pokemon to battle at the training grounds as a team when they know some highly-skilled opponents are going to be there

likewise, he just really likes battling as a team. like if he and his partner run into the bandits in the wild, it's a genuine pleasure, because it means he gets to wield train his pokemon alongside someone on his level (also he likes being the hero sometimes, especially if he's upstaging arceus's chosen hero)

volo loves pda for several reasons: he's touch-starved, he's possessive, and he's a performer at heart

some fourth wall breakage, as a treat: he'd absolutely read romantic fanfiction about himself and leave multi-paragraph comments making corrections and highlighting lines he particularly appreciated

*cracks knuckles* Do i ever. (a bunch of these will be just. straight from some of my fics but eh whatever i love them)

Four absolutely heard stories about Sky, particularly as a child. Sky was probably a cross between George Washington and, like, Odysseus to his era. Someone legendary, a hero just toeing the line between history and myth. No one's 100% certain he's real, but Four believes it. (So does Dot)

In Four's era, there is a constellation known as the Godslayer constellation. Enough said.

Sky's love of flying and his experience in piloting parallels Four's ceaseless examination of minute details. Four likes dealing in the little things that make big results, so he ends up being really fascinated with how exactly Sky's Loftwing can fly and how it evolved. And hey, giant specimen that won't eat him? Big win.

Four gets along so well with Minish engineers and scientists. It's scary.

Sky took up woodcarving as a meditative art. He couldn't focus for long enough (inattentive ADHD) so woodcarving became a way to learn to focus and complete tasks, and he just sorta fell in love. He probably learned with Gondo.

Speaking of, Gondo is probably his favorite shopkeeper at the Bazaar. Sky was totally the type of kid to pester him with questions and stories and anecdotes while he worked, and Gondo was kind and patient enough to let him. He also liked the company.

Sky and Four both seem pretty chill (one's a mom friend and one's pretty smart/inquisitive/has common sense?), which is why no one ever suspects them when they team up and pull the most ridiculous pranks. (Wild knows, though. His best friend is Flora. He knows how absolutely insane scientists are, and he and Sky regularly drag each other around on misadventures. When there is a prank war, Wild only makes Four's and Sky's favorite dishes. They scare him.)

Sky's soul doesn't display his physical scars. In Silent Realms, you can only see cracks and impacts where Guardians have gotten him. They glow.

Sky likes listening to Four ramble about cool stuff he's learned. He has no idea what Four's talking about half the time, but Four is always so excited to have someone listen that all of his walls come down and you can see the Colors more clearly. Sky adores it so much.

Speaking of, after Four Swords, i think Four came back together, but rather than being four people piloting a meatsuit together or just a single person again, he's more like a granny square blanket. He's one dude, but different characteristics will show more overtly depending on the situation, and when put under stress, the seams begin to rip until he has to use the Four Sword to split. Otherwise, he gets a super migraine and just can't function. Also, magic fucks with him.

I read a fic where Four had a stutter and that's canon to me now. Like. yeah.

Sky much prefers the application of things to the theory. He's a smart guy for sure, canonically breezed/slept through all of his classes and did well while Groose had to work his ass off, but while he was able to absorb the information easily, it just didn't engage him and he wasn't all that interested. His favorite classes were in the Sparring Hall and in the air on his Loftwing. As I said before, real ADHD guy.

Sky's Loftwing is named Bird. Sun's is Blue, and Groose's is Fast. I'm sure some kids made up cool names like Felicia and Arnold, but I love the idea that they were childhood friends before, like, middle school years, so they probably shared a single braincell.

Four ends up teaching Sky metallurgy and stuff when they get a chance to chill at the forge. Sky teaches Four woodworking/carving.

Sky is good at physics.

Four is like. SO autistic to me, what a guy, and the Chosen Hero is and has been a big special interest, so meeting Sky is like the best moment of his LIFE. He was probably trying to do some detective work with the other Links as subjects when he meets Sky and he just gets SO excited, it's adorable. Sky sees him, learns he's his successor, and immediately loves him forever. They are besties your honor.

also any version of FD!Sky

however, he quickly grew fond of you, and Cesar highly encouraged him to ask you out! and that he did...

𖠵𝟎𝟐: he isn't a very touchy person, but he doesn't reject the idea, either. if you want to cuddle, he'll happily do so, but you have to be the one to initiate it.

𖠵𝟎𝟑: you happened to be a big stress reliever for this man! whenever he feels stressed or overwhelmed, he'll plop himself on top of you and ask if you can rant about something so he can listen to you talk.

𖠵𝟎𝟒: he's always been slightly protective over you regarding getting yourself hurt. when the idea of alternates came out, god, that was multiplied by 100,000.

he would not let you go almost anywhere by yourself. (at least out in public). he'd eye anyone you'd be talking to, trying to figure out if they were an alternate.

𖠵𝟎𝟓: he's a silent lover; he shows he loves you with smaller actions rather than big ones.

𖠵𝟎𝟔: it doesn't take much to make him happy romantically. as long as you're safe and unharmed, that's all that really matters to him.

𖠵𝟎𝟕: isn't much for PDA, but he'll hold your hand everywhere to ensure that you don't wander off anywhere.

𖠵𝟎𝟐: a pretty big hopeless romantic, i'd imagine. he loved to take you out on really romantic dates. it doesn't matter if it was a big occasion or not.

𖠵𝟎𝟒: a big cuddle bug! he loved to be attached to your hip no matter where you went. he'd hold your hand without meaning to, LMFAO.

𖠵𝟏𝟏: he's a lot more withdrawn because he's scared he's going to hurt you accidentally.

𖠵𝟏𝟐: watches over you very intently while you sleep, making sure nothing (meaning any other alternates/intruders) gets inside your house.

𖠵𝟏𝟑: was very against the idea of affection, being incredibly not used to it (as an alternate). however, you've found out that giving him affection helps calm him down and keep his sanity intact — well... whatever's left of it anyways.

𖠵𝟏𝟒: grimaces at literally anyone else but you, given his nature of being an alternate. for that reason, you prefer he stays at home.

however, he despises the idea of you going out alone because he can't be there to protect you.

𖠵𝟏𝟓: i can't decide whether or not he'd tell Gabriel of you because he wants to make it abundantly clear that you should not, no matter the circumstances, be harmed by his or any other alternates hands or because he fears that Gabriel would purposefully try and target you.

Jonah was actually the one who gave you Adam’s number, LMFAO.

i was actually just about to type these out so this ask is well timed

-Tiger is very big on 2000s emo. she LOVES paramore. Bear is the one who helped dye their hair orange(after hayley williams duh)

-Tiger is also very big on classic punk and riot grrl(i’m not projecting i swear) because it was very much the easiest music to get a hold of after the crumble (in the early day of the army them and Bear would go out to rob cd stores and she’d always steal a couple cds)

-Bear is very big on folk music. she’s also a classic emo girly. she LOVES american football and modern baseball.

-after long days they listen to music together and just kinda lay in their room. the other army members find it curious how they’re really the only ones to share a room

-Tiger first dyed their hair when she was 10. Bear helped her. the dye job was very shoddy but they loved it

-Tiger is nonbinary! they sort of came out as a kid when she first met Bear but later down the line they finally had a word for it so she explained it better. Tiger was her original chosen name(might give her a diff one in the fic later on idk)

-Bear has a very weird relationship with gender. i think she’s genderqueer but basically the “i’m nonbinary but i have a job rn so idrc)

-they’re both butch lesbians. i don’t make the rules

-Bears love language is secretly touch. she pretends it’s acts of service but Tiger knows better and tries to make a decent amount of physical contact with her

-Tigers love language is quality time. they enjoy extended periods of time with Bear but are very much too anxious to ask her to hang out more after the crush manifests

-a lot of Tigers anxiety manifests itself as anger. that’s why she’s like that in season 1.

-in the time they spent witj the hybrids while waiting for everyone to come back from alaska, Finn quickly became her favorite. they’re both a bit mischievous and she sees herself in him

-Wendy finds Tiger and Bears dancing around the idea of a relationship amusing. i think there’d be a point where her and Bear are just sitting on the porch and she’s like “i’d be fine with having a sibling in law y’know”

-i also think she’d have a talk with Tiger and be like “i think you’re good for her and you’ve got history. you helped her find me so you’re alright”

-Tiger is surprised by the accusation of crushing on Bear(she’s not)

-all of the hybrids LOVE Tiger. she does teach all of them the best swears. at some point they get back to the army headquarters and gets her computer back, once they research swears in sign all hell breaks lose

-the wolf boys visit regularly. they eventually learn very basic english but they can’t articulate well so they stick to sign

-the wolf boys are also very sweet with the rest of the hybrids! they especially love Finn since they’re all canines

-i feel like all the hybrids are bi. like how some animals are naturally just bi. i think that’s how they are

-the games they play can get personal. if someone beats someone else in one game you can bet your ass they’re getting back in the next game

Ok ok insufferable hunlow headcanons... you know there are some couples who are quite private. If they're in public they'll maybe hold hands at most. If they're fighting u won't even know about it until after they've broken up or it's resolved. Well, with their close friends, Hunlow are the OPPOSITE. even in their situationship when they're trying to be subtle. Their friends know so much about their relationship against their will because they're too obsessed with each other to shut up. (1/2)

YES EXACTLY!!! I remember seeing a headcanon once that Hunter and Willow would be way more low-key about their relationship and prefer to keep their love relatively private, as opposed to Luz and Amity who are very open about it. Everybody has their own interpretation, but I personally cannot picture that at all.

I think they are as LOUD and OBNOXIOUS as any teenagers who are experiencing their first romance. I think they are so mushy even while out in public that it makes other people nauseous.

(Never forget Dana's art with Hunter happily melting in Willow's hand. I am getting heavy implications that they are not in a private setting. They are doing that gay shit in front of people. Unbelievable.)

I think it's a sweet idea that provides a sense of catharsis for both characters.

Willow is stated by Dana to be a person who tries not to brag about things. It's the reason why not a lot of people knew that she regularly worked out. Because she barely talked about it. I personally see it as a form of corrective behaviour where she irons out characteristics that she views as unlikeable, in her efforts to be more palatable to the people around her. Because, as shown in HMH, Willow does possess a boastful streak and has the petty urge to show off every now and again. I think it would be nice for her to express a bit more teenage immaturity in circumstances where its harmless for her to do so. Like at school, where she is so childishly giddy to have a special boy all to herself. I love the idea of Hunter's presence being something that influences Willow to act her age in an easy, lighthearted way.

Who cares if it's annoying? Who cares if it's untastefully braggy? Who cares if she looks blushy and sappy and ridiculous? She's calling her boyfriend a gigglebug in the middle of the goddamn hexside hallway and teasing about how she could sweep him up Princess style and he's eating it up. She's never felt so alive.

MEANWHILE! Hunter is a person who feels love so intensely and passionately while also being a hopeless chatterbox who's incapable of keeping things to himself. AND ALSO he's never gotten the opportunity to really express how deeply he loves. Belos starved him of affection and isolated him from other people. He had to hide Flapjack's existence during the stage where Flapjack was becoming the most ardently adored creature in his life. Hunter has all this love constantly pouring out of him at all times and he can barely handle it. He's bottled it up for far too long. He died and came back to life with a vengeance for living ferociously. He's not going to subdue himself anymore. He wants to be held!! He wants hugs!!! And kisses!!!! He wants someone to caress his face and stroke his hair!!!! He wants to squeeze the people he loves so tight that they leave an imprint on his flesh. Let him be loudly and annoyingly in love with Willow with no idea how to be normal about it. Let him gleefully announce "Willow brought me a bouquet of flowers!! 🥰" In the hexsquad group chat every damn day. And let nobody tell him to shut up. Please, he needs this.

Mass Effect Character Sexualities because I want to project

Ashley: straight, formerly homophobic until she realized that most of her Normandy crew mates were gay

Garrus: bi energy, its simply unfair to our gay guys for such an amazing and hot character to not go both ways. Ive also seen too much Garrus/Thane/Shepard fanart to see him any other way

Liara: obviously bi, I hc that she was confused when she first encountered homophobia because it simply doesn’t exist in asari culture (closest thing is the asarixasari stigma)

Wrex: for some reason I see him as bi? I have no idea where I got this but I want to see a tough, old warrior casually mentioning being into both men and women and not caring at all about it (even though I think krogan culture probably wouldn’t approve)

Tali: for my sake as a helpless bi simp, I see her as under the umbrella, but doesn’t realize it. Like me before I came out, Tali would say “yeah she’s really pretty and I want to hang out with her and hug her and stare at her but I’m not gay or anything.” You are. You are gay. I think it would be in character for her to completely miss the fact that she’s into girls as well as men

Joker: straight. The kind of straight to make jokes about his friends’ sexualities, but not mean anything by it. He goes to pride every June with his wife EDI (who I will get to)

Jacob: I honestly can’t believe that he was originally intended to be bi, I just can’t see him into men unless I squint. It’s hilarious that they tried to make his male romance more like Brokeback Mountain so it’d be accepted

Miranda: I’ve seen a headcanon on Pinterest about Miranda having internalized homophobia because it doesn’t line up with her view of genetic perfection, something she’s established to be insecure about. I think it would make perfect sense for her character. I think it’s easy to see her as a lesbian practicing het-comp, especially with how awkward her initial flirting with Shepard is, but there are more scenes in her romance that feel authentic than there are that feel performative, so I’m inclined to say she is bi/pan/omni/etc.

Mordin: I’m pretty sure his asexuality is canon. I also think that he’s aromantic as well, but can objectively assess beauty/attractiveness well. For example, his film noir short story in the Citadel DLC involves a hookup with Aria. I personally believe that is him saying “yeah, she’s attractive, and if I were into women, I’d smash”

Zaeed: he gives off straight uncle who would punch a homophobe for you but otherwise doesn’t know how to interact with you after you’ve come out and tries a little too hard to acknowledge your sexuality but it’s definitely well-meaning (think the “anyone could be they!” scene from Brooklyn Nine-Nine)

Grunt: straight and supports his bi parents (Shepard and Garrus/Thane/Tali/Liara), wears rainbows at Pride for them, and regularly headbutts homophobes

Jack: I’m forever salty about them erasing her pansexuality. Also she and Miranda should’ve kissed

Kasumi: also gives off pan energy. She definitely feels like the type to not care about gender at all- as long as they’ve got muscles, that’s all that matters to her

Thane: pan energy

Samara: as established, Samara is bisexual

Legion: ace, non-binary (goes with people using he/him based on its masculine voice, pronouns are they/it)

Kelly: she said so herself, she doesn’t care about race/species or gender, all that matters is the person 💖💛💙

EDI: something about Sentient AI Who People Initially Don’t Trust Until She Gets A Humanoid Body That People Can Better Associate With Her reads to me as a trans allegory. Obviously, she’s not trans, but the vibes are there. Many times, people are suspicious of trans women until they transition and pass more as cis, which is similar to EDI’s story. She learns more about herself after her body changes, and others start to appreciate her more and have an easier time referring to her with she/her pronouns. As for her sexuality, she doesn’t seem to lean any particular way to me. She doesn’t seem like the type who’d use labels, even though it would make sense for her to “categorize” herself. I’d say she’s unlabelled- definitely into men, with her relationship with Joker

James: as much as I wish we could get gay gym bro representation, James is great as he is, being a masculine straight guy who’s best friends are openly gay (Cortez) and bi (Shepard)

Traynor: lesbian (canon), definitely into women who can crush her head under their heel but also has a dominant side herself

Gojo Satoru/Original Female Character Pre-Relationship, Bickering, Teenage crush, Obliviousness 2372 words Also posted on AO3 Summary: Suguru comes to the conclusion that Satoru might have developed a little crush on a certain someone...

Honestly, I had the first part of this written for soooo long but I just hadn't been able to finish writing it for some reason (ʃᵕ̩̩ ᵕ̩̩) I did end up sort of finishing it now, though it's shorter than I had initially planned, but alas. Should still be fun! Hopefully!

(Also, you may notice in this story that I mention a little something about how Gojo and Geto met that is actually all my own personal headcanon lmao. I don't think there's anything in the manga that necessarily contradicts this, but let me know otherwise! Basically, my headcanon is that they actually met a couple of years pre-Jujutsu Tech by running into each other, and Gojo immediately saw Geto's potential with his Six Eyes and started bugging him about it. So Gojo was the one who recruited Geto to become a sorcerer, and they eventually started spending a lot of time together and became friends, then ended up joining Jujutsu Tech together.

...idk I just like the idea that they knew each other for longer before everything went to shit, it hurts more lol)

It all started when Suguru came back to school from this one spring break.

...Well, okay, maybe it didn’t exactly start right then, but it sure got him noticing it more.

There were still a couple of days left in spring break before the new school year started, but Suguru had already come back to the school after spending time with his family. And as much as being with his family was nice and all... he was just really glad to be back in Jujutsu Tech.

So his first order of the day was to find Satoru so they could catch up—but the problem was that Satoru wasn’t at the dorms, and Suguru couldn’t sense him anywhere on school grounds. Well, Suguru had actually come back a little earlier this time around, and he hadn’t really let Satoru know in advance, so he simply pulled out his phone to text his white-haired friend and see what he was up to.

Suguru: I just got back Suguru: where u at

Suguru started making himself comfortable in his room, waiting for a reply. A couple of minutes later, his phone pinged with a text message.

Satoru: out

Suguru snorted—well, no shit. Satoru had too much energy to stay cooped up for long, so Suguru regularly received updates from his friend’s random outings—‘Suguru, I just bought new glasses,’ or ‘Suguru, they’ve got new Digimon figurines for sale,’ or ‘Suguru, I just got a girl’s number, and she has a friend!!’

...But, most often these days, Satoru’s messages seemed to revolve around one subject in particular.

‘Suguru, Wakatsuki and I went shopping, I got you a hat,’ he would text. Or ‘Suguru, Wakatsuki won’t let me pick out her karaoke songs,’ or ‘Suguru, Wakatsuki just fell asleep in my room watching a movie what do I do??’

If Satoru and Wakatsuki had unexpectedly spent a lot of time together last summer, it seemed that they were intent on doing the exact same thing whenever school went on break. And judging by how long Satoru had taken to answer his latest message, Suguru guessed the other boy was pretty busy right now.

Suguru: you out on a date

There was a pause before the next message came along.

Satoru: I’m with Wakatsuki

Suguru snorted.

Suguru: on a date

The next reply came hilariously quickly.

Satoru: no

Suguru snickered to himself.

Suguru: if you say so

Honestly, how had they even gotten here in the first place?

Last summer, Suguru had gone back home fully expecting Satoru to do the same—that the other boy would be heading back to the Gojo Estate during break. But then a few days after he’d arrived at his parents’ house, Suguru had discovered that Satoru had not, in fact, left school at all. After some prodding, the white-haired teenager had claimed he would much rather stay there than be forced to handle his family’s nagging face-to-face again, and had even rejected the idea to come stay with Suguru instead.

And that had worried Suguru a bit. Satoru, left all by himself at the school with no one around to rein him in?

A recipe for disaster.

Even worse was when he’d found out that Wakatsuki had also not left the school for some reason, and considering how she and Satoru had constantly been at each other’s throats during the first half of the school year...

A recipe for an even worse disaster.

Suguru had tried to assuage his fears by telling himself that Yaga would still be around, and that their sensei had actually developed a knack for keeping those two from throttling each other. But still, Suguru kept offering Satoru to join him during that summer, which Satoru continued to refuse; in the few times Suguru had brought his white-haired friend to meet his parents... it hadn’t turned out very well. Satoru was too different, too alien to get along with Suguru’s very normal parents, the small town they lived in too tiny and boring to hold Gojo Satoru for long.

So Satoru had stayed at the school all throughout the past summer, but at least he had promised to keep Suguru up to date with frequent text updates. That had provided some semblance of comfort to Suguru as he kept receiving reassurances that Satoru hadn’t blown up the entire school from sheer boredom, but then...

‘ugh, Yaga is sending me on a mission with Wakatsuki of all people,’ Satoru had texted him at one point. ‘I don’t need all the dead weight.’

‘Satoru,’ Suguru had replied. ‘Play nice.’

Suguru had been... a little worried. Mostly about Wakatsuki, because Satoru didn’t exactly know the meaning of the word moderation and Wakatsuki herself held no qualms about provoking one of the strongest sorcerers of the modern age despite their, ahem, differences in strength. And as Satoru’s texts complaining about the mission eventually ceased after half a day or so, Suguru had only ended up even more worried about what might have happened when those two were finally left alone with each other.

Really, Suguru had expected the worst.

But then a day later, Satoru had finally texted him back saying that the mission was done—and yes, Wakatsuki was still alive.

So that had been a relief. Satoru hadn’t accidentally squashed Wakatsuki while fighting, and those two had managed to survive being alone with each other for longer than Suguru had ever thought possible.

And as it turned out, they had done more than just survive being around each other, but Suguru would only come to understand what that meant after he’d returned from that year’s summer break. Because as he stayed with his parents during summer, Suguru had only vaguely started to notice that Satoru’s messages were slowing down as the days went on, almost like the other boy had found something to actually occupy his time with on a regular basis.

That something? Wakatsuki herself. And when Suguru finally returned from summer break, he’d been shell shocked to enter Satoru’s room to find them both there, watching a movie together.

So, something had happened during that summer, something that had eventually led to Satoru and Wakatsuki agreeing on some sort of truce between themselves. And that truce quickly evolved as they eventually became friends—real, honest, constantly bickering, friends. A true miracle had happened last year, and when Satoru wasn’t spending time with Suguru, then he sure was spending time with her.

...Spending time with her in a strange way sometimes... and this spring break hadn’t been any different.

“...I’m gonna take it off,” a voice was heard out in the hallway, and Suguru perked up. It was a girl’s voice, a familiar one—and accompanying it was a very familiar cursed energy signature.

“No, you lost the bet,” Satoru’s voice was heard. Suguru jumped up to his feet, moving towards the door.

“I’ve been wearing it all day,” Wakatsuki said. “I’m done.”

“No.”

“I’m taking it off—hey!”

“You’re going to wear it all the way to bed!”

“Says who?!”

“Says me!”

As Suguru popped his head out of his room, his eyes immediately spotted the two other teenagers standing in the middle of the hallway—and the ridiculous Digimon hat that Satoru had undoubtedly made Wakatsuki wear.

“You two look like you’re having fun,” Suguru greeted them with a grin.

“Yo, Suguru!” Satoru greeted back—as Wakatsuki sent the white-haired teenager a half-hearted glare. Her hands were raised up near her head, probably to take the silly hat off, but Satoru had both of her wrists held in his own hands to keep her from doing just that.

“Lemme go,” she grumbled, trying to pull her hands away—but Satoru was not budging. So she huffed, leaning backwards enough so she could raise a leg and half-heartedly kick Satoru’s side.

He still did not budge.

“Am I interrupting something?” Suguru asked, his smile turning sly.

Satoru seemed oblivious to what Suguru was trying to imply, so the other boy simply grinned some more. “Wakatsuki is just being a sore loser, that’s all.”

“I’ve kept my side of the agreement!” Wakatsuki called, and Satoru finally released her wrists. Wakatsuki did not waste any time grabbing the hat off her head and chucking it straight at Satoru’s face, then promptly rushing off to her own room. “Keep that Digimon freak away from me!”

It was hard to take her seriously when she stuck her tongue out at Satoru before closing herself inside her room, the Digimon hat harmlessly thudding against the wooden surface after Satoru had thrown it back at her.

Suguru snickered to himself.

...What a fun date it must have been...

“Satoru,” Suguru called, trying to contain his smirk. “You’re drooling.”

Satoru blinked, finally realizing he was staring.

Staring at what, in particular?

Wakatsuki stretching out her legs as they warmed up for class, of course. She had worn shorts today, probably due to the increasingly warm weather, and it wasn’t hard for Suguru to notice where Satoru’s eyes had been glued to, even behind his sunglasses.

“Shut up,” Satoru suddenly said with a huff, immediately turning around and starting to stretch out his arms despite not really needing to.

Also, the tips of his ears were definitely red.

Suguru snorted, and from the other side of the training grounds, his eyes met Shoko’s to exchange a knowing glance with her.

(It seemed that Wakatsuki hadn’t realized it either...)

“Satoru,” Suguru half-whispered, his smile turning devious. “Do you have a crush?”

Satoru still refused to turn around, just as his ears refused to stop shining red. “S-shut up. I do not.”

Oh, he totally did.

Suguru would have to admit that his previous teasing of Satoru over his, ahem, relationship with Wakatsuki had been mostly just that—teasing. It was kind of funny to think about how close those two had gotten despite the rocky start they’d had, and that they actually enjoyed spending all that time together now without complaint.

But to think that Satoru had developed an actual crush on her?

Hilarious.

Wasn’t Wakatsuki the one Satoru had deemed a complete weakling on day one? And yet, now here he was, desperately trying to pretend he hadn’t just been ogling said weakling in the middle of jujutsu class because it turned out he had a crush.

...Honestly, how hadn’t Wakatsuki realized it yet? Satoru wasn’t exactly subtle, and they spent a lot of time together. Sure, Suguru himself had only just realized it... but he was pretty sure that, in the back of his mind, he’d known that for a while now.

It really was that obvious.

Throughout the years they’d known each other, Suguru had watched Satoru try to woo quite a few girls by now—and it was always a trainwreck. Satoru’s good looks were forced to the heavy lifting for him like 90% of the time, because when Satoru opened his mouth, he was as overly confident as he was a socially awkward mess. Suguru found it hard to miss whenever Satoru became interested in someone (he usually became three times as loud and obnoxious, for starters), though he’d have to say that Satoru’s arrogance usually covered up for his total inability to talk to other people like a normal human being—the Gojo clan’s fault, of course—so maybe it went unnoticed by everyone else.

...But also, Suguru thought Wakatsuki was smart.

Had she noticed it but was ignoring it? Suguru didn’t think so—given how those two were always bickering with each other, he didn’t think Wakatsuki would be able to act normally around him if she knew that Satoru kept ogling her in class.

But... did she maybe have a crush on him?

Suguru hummed to himself, thoughtful, as he watched Satoru try to get a rise out of the girl in question. Like a boy tugging on a girl’s pigtails to get her attention, almost predictably so—but what did Wakatsuki feel about it?

It was hard to tell, to be honest. Wakatsuki was a lot more guarded than Satoru was, and Suguru didn’t know her that well. Suguru knew that she enjoyed spending time with Satoru for sure, but how far did that go?

...Hm...

Suguru watched as Yaga scolded Satoru and Wakatsuki—Wakatsuki having been successfully riled up by the white-haired teenager. Then he snorted when Satoru turned around and Wakatsuki raised a leg to literally kick his butt, before scampering off to hide behind Shoko so Yaga wouldn’t scold them again.

...Suguru would not be opposed to playing matchmaker if needed to, actually. Satoru needed someone who could keep him grounded—someone who didn’t really care about his status of being Gojo Satoru, and someone who wouldn’t let his strength get to his head. Suguru himself was trying to do his part in that, and the Gojo Satoru he’d first run into those three and something years ago was certainly not the same Gojo Satoru that existed now.

‘You’re strong, actually,’ Satoru had told him back then, and even though it had technically been a compliment, Satoru’s tone of voice had made it sound like a backhanded compliment instead. ‘You should become a sorcerer.’

Satoru had definitely mellowed out a bit from the arrogant boy he’d first met back then, and Suguru had worked hard to steer him away from the asshole that the Gojo clan had raised him to be.

...So it was kind of funny that the other person helping with that now seemed to be someone on the exact opposite end of the spectrum of strength. The fact that Satoru had been able to overlook Wakatsuki’s ‘weakness’ spoke volumes to how much he’d grown, and the thought of those two getting together now amused Suguru to no end.

Maybe one day, once Suguru was sure that the crush was mutual. After all, he didn’t want to ruin the careful balance that had been struck between Satoru and Wakatsuki last year in case he was mistaken. Maybe it would be better to just leave them be and see where they ended up by themselves...

...for now. There would be plenty of time for some matchmaking later, after all.

Hello! I’m trying to collect seminal fanworks for different fandoms, and figured that it would be a good idea to ask you for any for atla since you said that you’ve been involved in writing fanfic for the show for so long. Basically, I’m hoping to find any fics that are widely popular within the fandom and/or have laid the groundwork for certain aspects of fanon. I’ve already got Embers by Vathara down for this since I’ve seen influence from it pop up pretty often, but I’m a bit new to the fic side of the fandom so I wanted to know which other ones were out there. Thank you!

Hmmm. Well, I can probably point you in the right direction, BUT there's a few things about me you'll want to take into account.

I have always had incredibly niche tastes. Even back in 2009 I was way more interested in reading about minor characters than I was reading about the main cast, and I preferred genfic over shipping. So the fics I read didn't tend to get popular, and the fics that did get popular were usually shipfic and thus I didn't read them and wouldn't be able to track their effects on the fandom. I also haven't regularly read ATLA fic in years; I write it, but I'm way more interested in my own OCs and worldbuilding and headcanon sandbox than most fic these days, so I'm not sure what the current trends are or where they came from. Most of the things I point you towards are going to be very old and possibly forgotten.

That said, I think your best bet is going to be figuring out where the hangout spaces were and who the major players were in old ATLA fandom and going from there. @loopy777 and @piandaoist may be able to help us out here too, especially since I only joined the fandom after the finale aired; they were around long before that.

So, where did the original ATLA fandom and its fic live? Well, for the fic, mostly on FanFiction.Net. You're lucky in this regard--I don't think there were any big independent fanfic archives for ATLA. Harry Potter was around at the same time and had several big fic sites, but HP was older than ATLA, so places like Sugar Quill and FictionAlley were founded around 2001. FFdotnet was founded in 1998, but back then it was pretty commonplace to build your own personal place on the internet. By the time ATLA aired, though, I think FFdotnet was becoming the go-to fic place. And old ATLA fandom never seemed to have much of a slash fandom; if it had that would've been more incentive to start up a separate slash-focused archive, since m/m would be especially vulnerable to purges. So as far as I know, no one felt a need to establish an ATLA-focused fic website, and if they did it never got very big. You'll probably have some good luck seeing what was popular if you just go to the FFdotnet ATLA section and sort by number of reviews and check the dates on what you find.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are going to go looking for this stuff, you need to keep in mind that you are looking at a past internet that is very different from what you might be used to today. For all that purity culture wankers like to complain, AO3 is a dream compared to the olden days. Now, you can see a fic's tags and warnings (or that the author chose NOT to warn) before you even open it. That was not possible or expected on many other fic archives. FFdotnet only gave you so many characters to write your fic summary, that was precious real estate. Sometimes people warned for things in author's notes, sometimes they did not. The culture and etiquette around warnings was different; in many fandoms back then, failing to warn for character death was seen as way more upsetting than failing to warn for rape. Check the rating, the summary, the author's notes--and then understand that you might still run into a completely random sex scene halfway through the fic. Was every fic like this? No, of course not. Most of them weren't. But you have to understand that this is an unavoidable risk. If you can't handle the idea of stumbling across some underage Zutara smut, this might not be the project for you.

Oh, and mind the citrus scale--lemons mean sex, limes mean the characters don't go as far as having sex.

And FYI, it's been ages since I've read anything I'm about to go over and I can't remember the details, so yes, this warning applies to anything I recommend here, too.

Other places to check...well, fandom lived on LiveJournal back then. I'm not sure if ATLA fandom was very affected by Strikethrough and Boldthrough; like I said, there didn't seem to be a lot of slash fans back then. But you could probably go trawling through old journals and communities and see if you find anything interesting... Oh, and back then all fanart would've been posted on DeviantArt, that was pretty much where fanart lived back then. LJ didn't have native image hosting, you had to use Photobucket if you wanted to post any images on there, and why do that when DeviantArt was RIGHT THERE for your fanart.

Ooooh, here you go, FanLore has some lists of ATLA fan spaces, lots of which are on LJ and DA!

There was also AvatarSpirit.Net, but they shut down ages ago. I archived a lot of the threads before it went, but I basically skipped the whole fanfic forum--everything in there was probably on FFdotnet, and no one really left comments on the fic threads, so it seemed pointless since I was pressed for time.

I think that pretty much covers the places. So what about the people?

Well, off the top of my head, I think one fan you might find useful is AvocadoLove (haha your names match). She wrote a lot of fic, but her most popular by far was Another Brother, which I believe was the original Zuko Joins The Water Tribe story, so that trope can be traced back to her. AvocadoLove also kept what might've been the fandom's most prestigious fic reclist, which you can still see on both her LiveJournal and her DreamWidth:

There's a lot of popular fics on this list. Be warned, though, that a lot of them have disappeared, especially if they were posted on someone's LJ instead of on FFdotnet. A few years back I went down this list archiving everything I could, and the number of error pages I hit was saddening. It's possible some have been reposted to AO3 so you can go check there.

Going off this list...

Enslaved by sharkflip--This was a popular Zutara fic, Zuko's the one who got enslaved lol. Extremely different worldbuilding from canon, I gave it a read once and it was interesting.

Mai's Ramblings by @loopy777--Oh my GOD I forgot this existed but it's great. Unfortunately ASN is gone and I have no idea if they're posted anywhere else, LOOPY TELL US, but these were just hilariously stupid rambles by Mai on every ATLA ship imaginable. Did they have a big effect on fanon? Unsure. Were they beloved by the ASN community? YES.

Stormbenders by Fandomme--Another super-popular Zutara fic, people loved it, so it's possible it might've affected Zutara fanon?

Water Tribe by Rufftoon on NoSelfControl--Okay, so this is a long webcomic about "what if Zhao survived the Siege of the North, got amnesia, and the NWT begrudgingly took him in?" Very popular with Zhao fans back in the day. The really cool thing about this is that Rufftoon was actually an ATLA storyboard artist, so her artwork looks a LOT like the show. I believe she made Water Tribe as a sort of personal practice for long-term visual storytelling or something. She did lots of other ATLA art too, you should check her out.

Oh, speaking of webcomics...

Plight of the Freedom Fighters by SioUte and PFFbySIO--The first webcomic was a "how to make Jet survive" story, the second followed the Freedom Fighters after the war as adults. SioUte was the Freedom Fighters BNF back in the day.

And while I'm thinking of it, not a webcomic, but sylvacoer had this whole not-really-Zutara story going on that was literally Blue Spirit/Painted Lady.

*thinks* Look, when it comes right down to it, unless there's stuff going on in the shipping subfandoms that I'm not aware of, I don't think you're going to find anything that directly established as much fanon as Embers did. There were plenty of other super-popular fics, sure, but most of them focused on shipping, and worldbuilding wasn't quite as important. Embers put worldbuilding first and foremost, and therefore it was easier for the fandom to pull from as a whole.

Uhhh let's see what else...at this point I'm basically just throwing whatever I can remember being interesting at you, lol, idk how much of an effect any of this really had.

DJNS wrote a bunch of fic with interesting premises, some shippy, some not. The Zuko/Aang roleswap AU was pretty cool.

For me personally, the biggest influences on my writing were Dark Puck and Rebecca Hb, specifically their Dai Li fics. They had a circle of friends on LJ who put out some good stuff.

*thinks* Yeah, I think that's all I've got for now. Hope that gives you a starting point! I'd also recommend, as you trawl through FFdotnet, checking out the authors' favorited fics in their profiles, you could probably find more interesting stuff that way.

Oh wow, thank you for asking! I haven’t had anyone really expressing interest in this little idea of mine like this; it makes me so happy 🥰

I’ve actually been thinking about the brothers a little more since I shared their designs, and here’s what else I came up with:

Usagi is autistic and Yuichi has ADHD bc I tend to project onto my characters

When they were kids, the brothers would do almost everything together despite their age gap

Usagi doesn’t have any allergies, while Yuichi has a laundry list of allergies (if you threw a dart at a list of every allergy, odds are he has whatever it landed on)

Usagi is a perfectionist with a fear of failure (is that redundant?)

Usagi is 4 years older than Yuichi, and he abuses his older brother privilege all the time (it used to be for silly, petty things like claiming first dibs for something or bossing his brother around, but now it’s more along the lines of “I’m responsible for you, so stop arguing with me and do what I say”)

Usagi became more serious and reserved than he used to be with his new role as his brother’s guardian, which affected his relationship with Yuichi

Yuichi hates when people lie to him (which includes keeping secrets)

Usagi is overprotective of his brother and will do absolutely anything to keep him safe

They don’t regularly hang out anymore, but Usagi still tries to do stuff with Yuichi from time to time

They customized their hoodies themselves (it was one of Usagi’s early attempts to bond with his brother after losing their parents)

One of Yuichi’s favorite hobbies is messing with his brother, from pranks to meaningless debates where he intentionally argues for an objectively wrong stance bc watching Usagi get heated over trying to convince Yuichi he’s wrong is funny

When he’s not busy working or taking care of his brother, Usagi likes to read about ancient history (he’s also into fan fiction and conspiracy theories, but he’ll never admit that out loud)

I won’t get too much into it here, but Usagi struggles to provide for Yuichi after losing a job, so he eventually becomes a bounty hunter with Gen as a last-ditch effort to make money

He doesn’t tell Yuichi about this

He does tell Leo, partly bc he trusts him to keep Yuichi from finding out, but mostly bc Leo was his first official bounty so keeping it a secret from him would be pointless

Speaking of Leo, he and Usagi don’t actually hang out after he convinces the bounty hunters not to take him in, yet they somehow keep running into each other in the Hidden City

Usagi initially finds Leo irritating, while Leo thinks Usagi is rude; they change their tune once they decide to hang out for real and get to know each other

They complement each other pretty well; Leo gets Usagi to open up and have fun, and Usagi acts as Leo’s confidante for things that he can’t really bring himself to share with his family

Although he acts more serious than Leo, Usagi’s not above being pulled into his shenanigans

Yuichi is pretty similar to Leo personality-wise, so ofc they get along great

They also get along with the rest of Leo’s family once they meet; Yuichi obviously favors Leo the most, but Mikey is a close second, and Usagi is closest to April (they can swap stories about all the jobs they’ve had!)

I’m torn about which direction to take Yuichi’s relationship with Donnie; I like the idea that they’re just so diametrically opposed and they get on each others nerves all the time, but I also like the idea of them actually being pretty close (mayhaps Donnie sees his beloved twin in this kid and develops a soft spot for him?)

I feel like Raph would absolutely adore the brothers once he gets to know them, though I feel like his relationship with Usagi would be a bit complicated; he’s initially a bit overprotective of Leo for reasons I won’t mention here, but he ends up really liking/relating to Usagi, so doesn’t stay that way for long… that is, until a certain point in Usagi’s relationship with Leo 👀

Usagi and Leo ofc catch feelings for each other over time, but Leo’s bad history with dating (again, I won’t get into it here) kinda keeps him from acting on anything

They do, however, tell each other how they feel anyway, so even though they’re not together yet, they know they’re into each other

Ok I’m gonna stop here bc I think I might’ve gonna a bit overboard lol. Besides, that’s all I can share without getting into angst territory 😉

As for stuff like comics, I genuinely have no idea how far I’m gonna take this; will I wanna turn this into an ongoing comic? Will I stick to making some sketches here and there? Idk! Ig we’ll see

i woke up today and chose emotional devastation: been thinking about the apollo cabin all day and severely and irreparably wounded my feels in the process (see under the cut for a lil more)

heres a recipe for falooda bc ive been craving it and my childhood innocence this morning

ill probably make another post, but for now: i came across this and it got me thinking about (and crying for) the apollo kids.

i genuinely have no idea if the chart is canon material or a bunch of headcanons (not that it matters ofc) but yeah im building off of it regardless lol

hilal (still unclaimed by hades) khalil's first and dearest friend at chb is diana (from the foster system) and TIL u can get brainrot from ur own ocs and their fantastical interactions with even more fantastical characters. i hurt all over and regret everything ;-;

anyway they grow very close in the short time they spend together (ill make a seperate post with headcanons and little things for diana bc shes my favourite and id die for her and she deserves concept art too).. also still figuring out their orientations so theres that

hilal grows flowers and learns to braid them into cass's hair (like rapunzels), they giggle while comparing similarities in cuisine (her mortal family is also greek) and pretend to fight over dishes

amir and hilal both love having a buddy during iftar and suhoor; chatting about everything from traditions, favourite foods, and eid fun times. enjoy each others company and swap books regularly.

it was no secret that micheal's features were sharp and that his tongue was sharper, and what with his general bad temper and foul mouth it was expected that the pair wouldnt get along. that was until after some incident where hilal lost it and yelled at him for 10 whole minutes, letting a few strong words 'slip' for emphasis. they reconciled their differences later and although the pair never became friends, they both held the other in high regards. micheal definately teased hilal for having a vocabulary to make a seasoned sailor blush. she decorates his scrapbooks sometimes

will is a baby that hilal adores (shes part of the will protection squad) and the two only grow closer after the premature deaths of their loved ones. but before that they often held tea parties where they talk only in thick accents (southern and british respectively) before dissolving into fits of giggles. in some ways will is hilals brother before nico. she knows him very well (and sees right through his innocent exterior he fools chiron with)

more will: he is absolutely wild and i will not be convinced otherwise. hes loud and playful and very energetic. a bit too much. he also has a lil ponytail (someone draw this pls) and enjoys talking about classics and is very chatty, much to the chagrin of his siblings's ears and hilals amusement & delight. loves using big words but frequently stumbles over them (cuteness overload)
