I think a really underrated quote from chapter 3 of Six of Crows is when Van Eck tells Kaz that he can’t help but wonder what “a boy of your intelligence might have amounted to under different circumstances” and Kaz replies “I’d just be stealing from a better class of sucker” because whilst at face value this is simply a suggestion of this is who he is and circumstance wouldn’t have changed that it’s also yet again an insult of Van Eck and a continuation of Kaz’s direct assault of Van Eck’s performative morality and the philosophical conversation they’ve been having about murder and trade - such as when Kaz states that 1 in 5 if Van Eck’s ships never return to port because they sink or fall prey to pirates so “let’s not speak of violence” or of Kaz openly claiming that they share the same cause for both being murderers: “profit”.

just me thinking about how a man walking down a crowded road will check to make sure his wallet is still there, and in doing so tells the thief exactly where his wallet is. Kaz looked at Inej to make sure she was still there, and in doing so told van eck exactly who to take 😭😭

also i think about Wylan saying "Maybe you can pray to Ghezen for understanding, Father," when Jan was confused about the whole Kuwei situation about fifteen times a day. it's genuinely one of my favorite Wylan quotes like yes get his ass‼️‼️

I love thinking about how both Jesper and Kaz look completely different from other people's povs (Jesper like a flirty sharpshooter and Kaz like the guy with the plan), whereas when you get into their heads all they're thinking about is their love interests

meanwhile there's Matthias who's so incredibly bad at hiding how he feels about Nina, everybody knew exactly how he felt on the inside because it's what he showed on the outside

Every now and then I remember that Van Eck paid Rollins upfront for everything he did to the crows in crooked kingdom, so even though he lost income from his businesses and fled Ketterdam he still made millions of kruge in the process of that book, meaning he could theoretically move to a new city or back to the Wandering Isle and continue to use his wealth to abuse and profit off other children like the crows, and I get so frustrated. Bastard

am i the only person who gets so unexplainably angry when people call kuwei a crow? like no the crows actually care about each other, they don't manipulate each other, they don't steal each other's boyfriends, they wouldn't pretend to not speak kerch to avoid conversation with each other (maybe matthias, but only at the beginning).

if the crows are a family, kuwei is that obnoxious neighbor kid no one can find a way to get rid of.

I always find it weird when reading some Kaneji fics, and the pair are living a new life away from the dangers of the Barrel and all that, and yet have little to no contact with Jesper and Wylan. Like those two are framed as being the third person (people?) in their lives who is far removed, but yet Nina is an ever-present figure? Don't get me wrong, I love Nina, but it's so frustrating seeing some people act like Jesper and Wylan weren't/aren't important in Kaz and Inej's lives, that they wouldn't be even after they find peace in a new world. While I'm sure the pair care for Nina deeply, she would not be able to fully replace Jesper and Wylan, nor would she want to.

I like the headcanon that Wylan isn’t short, it’s just that he has terrible posture and Jesper, who is very tall as we all know, has perfect posture, so people think their height difference is crazy but it’s just. A normal height difference. Wylan just can’t keep his posture straight (pun intended)
