I’m going to attempt to explain this in a way that’s not specific to the community but instead applies to animals in general. This is a thing for all creatures, not just those of us raised to be human. I promise, this is universal.

I, a dragon, have two guinea pigs. Guinea pigs are a very social species, so my two girls live together. They both adore me. Their relationship with each other, on the other hand, is complicated.

Luna is our local wildlife in this story. She was born as one of an accidental litter and was surrendered to our amazing local guinea pig shelter once she was fully weaned. She’s currently 2.5 years old and has always lived with at least one piggy friend except for a span of around two months after her first friend died and right before she came to us. She is very boisterous, though not dominant, and she adores Mousse.

Mousse, on the other hand, represents us. She was born in a plastic tank in a petco, taken away from her mother too early, and then sold for around five bucks to a family who knew almost nothing about guinea pigs and put her in what should have been a gerbil cage. She is currently 4.5 years old and has never lived with another guinea pig since her birth until she met Luna most of a month ago. Mousse is very friendly… and absolutely terrible at communicating with Luna. She does not know to raise her chin to express dominance, she rumble struts away from you instead of towards you, and in general she has no earthly idea how to tell Luna to back off. She’s taken to making a really loud noise every time Luna does something she doesn’t like, the same noise each time, because that’s how she told her previous humans to stop.

Luna recognizes Mousse as a guinea pig, because obviously. They look almost identical besides coat type, after all. And honestly, Mousse recognizes Luna as a guinea pig. But Mousse does not speak guinea pig. She’s slowly figuring it out, but it’s a long process, and she is still failing every one of Luna’s social cues, meaning that Luna cannot interpret her boundaries either. I act like a guinea pig around Luna so I can use her language to convey that she’s safe around me. I can’t do that around Mousse. For Mousse, I have no more idea what most of her body language means than Luna does, because she does not act like a guinea pig. I have years of practice at guinea pig body language, and yet none of it works for Mousse because she doesn’t know what I mean and I don’t know what she means.

So, my fellow therians, otherkin, fictionfolk, and whatever else - we are Mousse. We were raised by humans, and we do not inherently speak the language of whatever we might identify as or with. Neither does Mousse. It’s okay, it happens to all creatures. You just need to put in the effort, like Mousse is currently doing with Luna and I’m doing with her in return, to learn that language. Once you’ve done sufficient research, you can often communicate properly, but the research always comes first.

But you have to learn before you do anything, and you have to respect their boundaries if they decide they aren’t willing to deal with you even once you’ve learned how to interact properly. Know their boundaries, respect those boundaries, and then proceed with what you know. You can do this.

Tips for visualizing what clothes you wore as a divinekin, if applicable

Clothing and presentation has always been important to me as a God, so it's also always bugged me that my "appearance" in terms of clothing never felt right. After all, it's how I presented myself to lower beings! It's important they get the right impression, no?

So here's some tips I brainstormed on how to figure that more out. Could also be used as help for character design, I guess.

General Tips:

Throw away stereotypes. Not every god and angel wears flowy white and gold clothing, and not every demon wears dark reds and black. Go with what feels right to you.

Try to seperate skin and clothing. Maybe your skin has patterns on it or has fluffy bits/fur, and it's not a piece of clothing!

Trust your instinct. Often, your gut is correct when it comes to this type of stuff. If you look at an image and immediately go, "No, that's more something an angel would wear where I come from, so that's probably not at all like what I wore", congrats on the kin memory! But also, it's probably right.

Determine whether looking at external sources will aid you or not. For some people, looking at things like pinterest or picrews may help them visualize or trigger kin memories. However, for some it may give undue influence over what they're already trying to visualize. So, determine if you're more of an internal or external type of person.

Visualize. If you can visualize inside of your head, try meditation. While meditating, imagine yourself as a seperate entity to talk to. Imagine mirrors, imagine your "home." If you can't visualize inside your head, try pinterest, google, or character creators like picrews. Or, if you can, draw!

Consider your domain, if you know it. Fictional example, but, look at the gods of Kid Icarus. Palutena has white and gold flowy clothing, and a large pendant on a necklace resembling a sun. Her colour palette and symbolism make sense as she's the Goddess of Light. Contrasted with Viridi, who wears saturated magenta, red, and purple (much like that of a flower) with a more faded leaf-green. Parts of Viridi's outfit look like they're made out of wood, her shoes resemble leaves, and she has a flower crest on her dress. Naturally, Viridi is the Goddess of Nature. To put a long story short, your domain may have a heavy influence on what your outfit looks like.

Make a distinction between general feelings and specific details. Is that EXACTLY what your top looked like, or do you just have the general idea that you had a bare chest showing? Is your skirt EXACTLY that long and has EXACTLY that many layers, or do you just have the general idea that you wore a long flowy thing as a bottom?

The Senses

Often, the question you're trying to answer is "How did it look?" But if you're having trouble with that, we can turn to the other senses.

How did it feel? This is probably the most important one. What material was it made out of - silk, cotton, wool? Was it soft and smooth, or was it more fluffy and comfortable? Was it heavy, or light?

On the contrast, how DOESN'T it feel? Where do you not feel your clothing? If it was a cold or windy day, which parts of your body would you feel it the most in? This can help with narrowing down the shape of your clothes and where it covers and doesn't cover.

How did it sound, if at all? Is it silent, or do parts of your clothing make noises as you move? Maybe you have jewelry or adornments that clack together or jingle as you walk. If you were to rub against different parts of your clothes, what sound would it make?

Taste and smell are a little weird to talk about when it comes to clothes, but they have their uses. Maybe you're struggling to figure out just what part of your outfit you're imagining or being reminded of. If so, you could take this part and imagine what it tastes or smells like - if it tastes/smells metallic, it's probably jewelry, etc. Smell could also hint at the material, like if it smells naturey, maybe it's made out of leaves and wood.

And lastly, like I said before, trust your gut! Don't take everything in this post as absolute fact that must apply to you - these are just guiding tips to hopefully get you closer along your pathway.

PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES + PHANTOM SHIFTS

I do not experience phantom shifts very often but I do experience mental shifts frequently. That being said, I almost always see or perceive myself as having nonhuman physical characteristics. All of my kintypes are connected in some way, one of the ways is is that they all share certain physical features such as: green eyes, white strands of hair, pointed ears, fangs. i sometimes have a human body with fluffy black dog-like ears on the top of my head (think alastor from hazbin hotel). Im not sure what kin this is coming from, it may be connected to being a demon but who fucking knows atp.

note: my claws only exist during demon phantom shifts. I also have a demon ‘heart’ speared tail that matches my flesh color.

i don’t have a photo that accurately portrays my wings so here’s a description: they are approximately 5 feet in diameter. dusty lightly spotted white fading down the tips which are black. they are slightly burned in areas and broken and battered everywhere else. I wouldn’t trust them to hold my weight as there are gaps of missing feathers.

SHAPESHIFTING

the way i experience being a shapeshifter is a. saying I ‘shift’ between my kintypes feels right to me because while they are all connected they all have different appearances and mental shifts that come with them. and b. along with my more talked about kintypes i also frequently identify with and as fictional characters and both fictional/real animals at seemingly random times but they are very strong. (aka being otherkith)

Basically alterhumanity/nonhumanity is where someone identifies and believes they are not human or what is considered traditionally “human”. It is similar to furries; however, furries do not identify themselves as being animals (although many furries are alterhumans, such as myself).

It can be that they identify as an animal (called therians), mythological creature (called otherkin), deity/angel/devil, plant, object, phenomena/concept (like death, rain, love, etc. (called conceptkin)), fictional character/species (called fictionkin or fictives if the alterhuman is plural), or other things!

It can be voluntary (called otherlink) or involuntary, and can be physical, psychological, or spiritual in nature/reasons. Many alterhumans are queer and/or have some disorder/disability, and certain disorders/disabilities/conditions can cause alterhumanity or amplify the belief (such as clinical lycanthropy/zoanthropy). No matter the reason or degree of identification, all alterhumans are valid and should not be treated poorly due to their identity.

Hope this helps, and remember that I’m not at all a spokesperson for alterhumans, so anyone feel free to leave your own comments and experiences below, and please correct me on anything I got wrong.

Hi friends! 😸 While those who know me know my theriotypes, I thought it would be fun to share the therian, otherkin, and fictionkin types I have been questioning! Since I’m including details about them and pictures, I’ll add a “more” tag for y’all’s scrolling sake!

Questioning Theriotypes:

1.) Sabertooth Tiger

I am very drawn to the time period where they existed, and I often experience strong fang sensations where it feels like my fangs are jutting out of my mouth— similar to how Sabertooth tiger fangs are!

To be honest, I’m very close to just calling myself a feline cladotherian, as I see myself in just about all cats. Lol! (I’m holding off though until I can tell for sure though.)

2.) Gray Wolf

Fun fact: When I was 13 and first identified as a therian, I identified as a wolf! However, I think I strayed from it due to my thinking that I was more of a wolf otherlink as opposed to a wolf therian. Which may be the case, but who knows. Much of my favorite media revolves around wolves, my comfort trinket I bring everywhere is a howling wolf, and I think one of my favorite dreams was when I was a gray wolf running through the snow and exploring a new town with my pack. Experiences like these can definitely get you thinking you’re a wolf yourself!

Questioning Otherkin Types:

1.) Faerie

My outward appearance greatly resembles what one typically perceives a faerie to be. I am small and delicate. I walk on little feet. My golden hair is wavy and always down. I often go for a very natural appearance. I love flowy dresses of springtime colors. I love wearing flower crowns and dainty jewelry. I was born to roam amongst the meadows and the forests. Within the Pixie Hollow universe, I strongly relate to animal faeries who take care of the creatures. Truthfully, I think many of my friends do perceive me as a faerie.

Questioning Fictionkin:

1.) Laios Touden from Dungeon Meshi

I don’t know what it is about this guy that made me grasp onto him so easily, but he is me and I am him! See, while I kin fictional characters, I’ve never considered myself fictionkin, as no character out there is 100% like me, and in my head, they need to be in order for me to call myself them. However! Laios is the exception. While we aren’t 100% alike, I really do perceive myself like him frequently. And oftentimes when I complain about not having the kin of a “cooler” character like a massive beast or a mighty animal, I often realize how incredibly in-character it is and how I need to kick myself over it. I’ve also had MULTIPLE dreams where I have been Laios, one of which I could shapeshift from Laios into a massive yellow lion.. who could also form Voltron. Again, sometimes I feel like I kin him again my will.

How do I know if I am kin?

Regardless of if it's fictionkin or otherkin, this is a question I see a lot of people asking. The brutal truth is that no one can tell you that you kin or don't- It has to be you that comes to that conclusion.

However, I have put together a small guide on how I would personally approach a potential kin situation. It's all under the cut!

Note: If any information here is completely wrong then please lmk, although I've been in the kin community for a while, I am NOT an expert. Also, this post is written from a fictionkin POV, but I have tried to be as inclusive as possible.

Reminders

I know everyone is probably sick of hearing this but being kin is different for everyone, there is no definitive method of confirming your kins. However, it's important to remember this as some of the kinfirming methods and labels I describe may not apply to you at all- And that's okay.

I also want to say that it's completely okay to be wrong! I see a lot of people who are scared to be wrong about being kin with anything, but I promise that if you're wrong about being any kintype it's completely okay. Just explore and find what labels fit you.

Types of kin

Something that's helped me is remembering that there are multiple types of kin.

Fictionkin/Otherkin/Objectkin/Placekin/ect- These are all different types of kin. Fictionkin= From fiction, Otherkin= Animal, Placekin= Place, Plantkin= Plants, ect. You can kin pretty much anything.

Therian (also known as a therianthrope)- Is someone who identifies as nonhuman to some degree (ie identifying as a cat, or a dog, or a dragon, ect).

Spiritual (also known as Past Life and Multiverse) kin- As the name suggests it's a form of kin where you believe you were [kin] in a past life. However spiritual kin does not need to be 'past life' and could be involved with theories such as: The multiverse, alternative universes, ect.

Psychological kin- Is a form of kin when you don't believe you're the character in a past life, but you share a connection psychologically with them.

Fictionhearted/Otherhearted/Synpath- All of two words mean the same thing: they are referring to a kin that you identify with but not as. You can have a strong connection with a character to consider them a part of your identity but not think of them as you. (Definition taken from here). Note that otherhearted = animal and fiction hearted = fictional character.

Copinglink (also called c'link) and otherlink- Means that you are identifying as a fictional character or species for coping purposes. Those purposes are usually due to trauma, illness, disability, etc. (Definition taken from here) Note that again otherlink = animal and fictionlink = fictional character.

Kin for fun (also known as KFF)- I was hesitant to add this as a lot of kin folk (myself included) do not like this term. However, I decided to add it so people know. KFF is what the name suggests, they only kin for fun. However, the main issues arise as those involved with KFF tend to ignore actual kin folk, the community's history, and can be incredibly ableist (ie 'at least I'm not like those delusional kin' is a common sentiment I've seen) so please keep this in mind. Here is a redit thread explaining kin folks thoughts on the issue. (NOTE: Otherlinks and copinglinks are not KFF)

'Other'- As I said at the start of this post there are types of kins who don't fit any of these! For example there are kin folk with memories that don't class themselves as spiritual kin or believe in past lives and/or the multiverse- Kinning is entirely personal so even if you dont fit any of these categories you can still kin.

For more terms and better explanations, I would advise checking out this post on the therian guide and this post by fictkinhelp on tumblr. For other resources I will link the fictionkin and otherkin reddits, however I am unsure what the communities are like there.

I know that because there are so many definitions and types it can get overwhelming, however I personally find them helpful so I can classify my own experiences easier.

For example: If I look at a character with [trauma], I often link them to my own experiences and think that I kin them with no memories attached or the nagging feeling that it's more- Thus I know then they are a copinglink. However, if I'm looking at a character and I start getting the gut instinct that I kin them, then it's more likely to be a past life kin. Obviously, a kin can fit more than one of these categories (ie a character who has been through [trauma] and I get the Gut Feeling of, then it's possible they are a copinglink and a spiritual kin)

How do I know if I kin?

There is no concrete method that I know of, and these are just ones I use and/or have seen others use.

Dreams

Dreams are interesting, what I've found is that sometimes I'll dream that I am [character], but the dream at large won't make sense. Because of that I will look up the meanings of the symbolism in dreams and come to my own conclusions there. Another thing is that the dream may make complete sense and be very literal.

Divination

Divination is a great tool imo, especially for spiritual matters. For kinning I often use: a pendulum (if you can't afford a fancy crystal one then a paper clip or anything heavy on the end of a string will work) and tarot cards (here is a kinsidering spread by faetarot). However, you can literally use anything! I've also used music, rain, dice, idol gacha cards, I even have a friend who uses cards against humanity for divination.

However, I will note that I would personally take everything with a grain of salt, especially if you are doing the reading on yourself- Your own emotions can influence a reading, and all methods have limitations in what they can tell you.

Gut feeling

One of the main things that really guides me is gut feeling. I don't know how to describe it, it's like a large pang of emotion that often times feels like nostalgia, but it can also be much more negative and resemble shame or anger depending on what I'm looking at or trying to remember.

Of course, getting used to this takes time and practice, and I don't have many tips, it's just a skill you develop over time.

Memories

This only really works for spiritual kin stuff (at least that I'm aware of), however I want to mention that memories often follow an event. Ie, doing a divination reading on what your friend group was like may trigger emotions and/or memories of that.

Memories are also a thing that develops over time, when I was younger and first getting involved with the kin community, I couldn't get memories as easy as I do today.

I do want to mention that you can be kin without memories, and that memories come in many forms (emotional, tactile, ect) so not having visual memories (or any memories at all) does not mean you are faking or make you any less valid than someone who gets memories.

Other signs I didn't know how to categorize

There are other things, one is what I call 'kin similarities', for example you may have a pattern of being kin with characters who fit the 'angry ginger' stereotype, you may kin characters who just so happen to always be the 'evil mastermind' or even ones who are just 'dog coded'- All of these can help you work out if you kin someone similar, however this tends to only be a thing that people with multiple kins can do and isn't always reliable.

Phantom limbs are another sign, I know a lot of otherkin and therian folk who have phantom limbs such was wings or teeth or other body parts (ie extra limbs, tails, ect). I will note however that if your phantom limbs are causing you serious and constant distress I would personally go to a doctor.

The feeling of 'this is me'

Honestly this is (imo) the most important indication you can have that you kin. Most non kin folk don't think to themselves 'Yeah I am [character], [animal], ect' or if they do it's a fleeting thought. If this thought is repeating every time you see [kin] and/or won't go away even when you aren't looking at them, then I would say there's a high chance that you may kin them.

A piece of advice I found on reddit is to try and think 'Do I relate to [kin], or am I [kin]?' I know it's hard to work this out, so I would say that 'trying on' the kin for a bit may help.

For example, if I was kin with a dog I may try and picture myself as one, call myself a dog, even use the pronoun closet to change my name to my kins name, all of this to see how it feels for me personally.

Final notes

Remember that it's okay if it turns out that you do not kin a character, it's okay if you flip flop while trying to decide. Being kin is entirely personal.

i’ve been thinking about non-otherkin/non-therian alterhuman identities recently and i realized i haven’t really explored that yet in myself. i have a fairly good grasp on my kintypes (for now at least), but i’ve been ignoring or even in denial about some of my other alterhuman identities.

it started yesterday evening (march 26), when i began to officially question whether maned wolves are a kithtype or kintype of mine. i still don’t know, but today, as i was researching about what hearttypes feel like vs what kintypes feel like, i realized that i’ve felt non-kin alterhuman things before now.

first my mind went to cecil palmer from welcome to night vale. i hyperfixated hard on that podcast when i first listened to it last year. i still get unreasonably excited about it, especially about cecil.

i once briefly considered being fictionkin to cecil, but brushed it off immediately — one, because i don’t feel like i am him (which is a pretty tell-tale sign i’m not), and two, because our personalities aren’t similar except for a few surface-level things. i dismissed it as extreme gender envy and tried to ignore it.

but i still felt (and continue to feel) an intense connection to him.

i’ve related very strongly to characters before, and to characters much more similar to me than cecil is. yet even the character i’ve had an intense spinterest on for several years can’t compete with this flavor of feeling. it goes deeper than gender envy (although it does include that). i want to be him. i’m not distressed that i’m not, but i do thoroughly want to, if just for a few hours. that’s not the full feeling, but it’s the facet i can articulate best.

i denied the possibility of being alterhuman in any way about cecil for so long because i was worried that if i decided to call myself fictionkin, i might lose myself in trying to adopt the personality of someone so different from me. (for a long time i didn’t know how widely acknowledged it is that fictionkin don’t have to match the personalities of the canon version of the character.) i didn’t want to consider fictionhearted either, as i was worried taking that first step would be crossing some line.

i think — well, i know, i just like to allow room for uncertainties — that cecil is a hearttype. (kithtype? fictionkith??)

there’s nothing else he could be to me, honestly. hearttype is the closest i can succinctly come to describing this feeling, and by “closest” i mean pretty darn precise.

and now my other revelation: hearthomes.

although i’ve got cecil as a hearttype, i don’t think i’d describe night vale as my hearthome. i’m fond of it, yes, but my chest doesn’t ache with the longing to live there. no, that honor goes to the world of tangled.

i don’t want to get too detailed, as this post is long enough already, so i’ll keep it short:

i’ve wanted to live in the world of tangled/tangled the series since i first watched the show. i don’t have any hearttypes or kintypes from there, not even an oc-kin. but it feels like home.

i’ve been asked what fictional world i’d live in if i had to choose one. i always immediately answer the tangled universe. for all the plot holes and underdeveloped lore, i absolutely love it, and if a portal opened up in my room right now to take me there i’d hardly hesitate. my favorite spot in disney world is that small tangled-themed section, even if it is just relegated to the bathroom area. it’s the closest i’ll ever get to actually being there. it felt bittersweet when i visited. my heart swelled looking at it all, and i think i’ve cried about it, but i don’t have any concrete memories of the latter.

sooo… yeah. i’m ‘hearted to cecil palmer and the tangledverse is my hearthome.

i’ll add these to my intro post soon. i don’t feel like i need a questioning period for these like i do for the maned wolf. they’ve been boiling in the back of my mind for so long that i already just… kinda know.

I was supposed to work on some pride month themed pieces, instead I'm out here creating a bisexual vampire, even tho I promised myself I wouldn't make more characters anytime soon.....

(random note: I don't typically make vampire characters as I find them over-utilized in fiction somewhat, but for Cornel it just felt like the ONLY thing that truly fit...)

TBF, he has an important role in the story that fills in lot of plot points. Also I meant him to be indigo themed but he ended up purple instead. *shakes fist at porple* I did have ideas for other outfits, but I kind of ran out of motivation for now and decided to just post this already; I can always draw him in those other ones later.

Name: Cornel Sala (His full name is Cornelius, but he prefers the shorter version, because his full name just reminds him of getting constantly yelled at or belittled by his parents)

Age: Unknown, he appears to be in his mid thirties physically, but has existed for at least 100 years.

A Natural born vampire currently hiding in the human world & working for a mob family

CURSED VS ETHER VAMPIRES

There are 2 types of these bloodsuckers in this story; the more classic, humans-infected-and-turned-into-undead-bloodsuckers, and natural born ones like Cornel. Natural-Born originate from Ether and are generally stronger and also immune to most common vampire fighting techniques, given they aren't really the same being even if they share similarities. No waving a holy cross or garlic to their face will work, though they are weak to light based magic, provided it is powerful enough. Cursed Ones come from a curse long ago, placed onto some humans that turned them into bloodthirsty monsters. Mostly they are created by fellow cursed, but sometimes a human can be turned by a Natural born, which then makes them a human-vampire hybrid instead of an undead creature. It is theorized that the Original Curse was inspired by Ether vampires still, just with their common ailments and weaknesses (Sun & silver allergy, tendency to be overtly polite, aversion to garlic dishes (either due to, again, allergy or just not enjoying the taste due to kind of a "cilantro" gene many of them have about garlic) turned up to eleven

Role: One of the antagonists for the Sterling family, often behind whatever chaos they are trying to solve.

Love interest: He has somewhat of a physical relationship with his boss Camilla, though its purely casual, neither she or him take it very seriously. There's also sexual tension between the long-lived Barone family guardian Soul eater Samar and him....

Comrades:  Vincent DeVos (A plaque demon) Samar (A Seemingly ancient Soul Eater, who turns out to be the brother of the Soul Eater King/Deity) His boss Camilla Barone (Human mobster)

Rival: Alexander Sterling, due to their previous run-in and roles as sort of protectors for their respective bosses.

Powers:

Flight: He can turn into a bunch of bats to travel, or use shadows for it thanks to his occultism skills

Physical strength: He is naturally far stronger than any human could dream of being, able to rip them apart with his bare hands. (Among the Ether citizens though, his kin are considered average or below average in raw physical strength)

Blood magic: He can utilize his own blood to form weapons or shields, and ofc infect others with it, though unlike "cursed" ones his by default doesn't turn people, just poisons them.

Occultism: He can basically summon forth dead souls to inhabit objects and things to create an army to command, or even force a possession into someone. He can also bring people back from the brink of death, but the timing for that needs to be precise.

Immortality: While not a natural trait, Cornel has used an ancient rune spell onto himself that he discovered, where he basically cannot be killed for good unless one manages to undo this spell/his soul is devoured successfully by a soul eater (hard to do, due to his occultism magic he tends to "go down" very poorly). He always reforms eventually even if his body is entirely destroyed.

Charm: He has the natural vampire charm which he can utilize for feeding or getting people to generally do what he wants.

Turning: Cornel can turn others into vampires too, but it requires a special casting spell alongside the bite, AND consent. You can't forcibly turn anyone into half-blood Ether vampire.

Weaknesses:

His kin are naturally weaker against light based magic (nothing to do with holiness, just light as an elemental energy type) though how powerful this said magic needs to be depends on the individual vampire. (Example: Diojas' biological mother is a genuine dangerous threat to him, but someone like Hayden Faylune who is more present in the story, not so much)

Cornel has some of the common ailments to his kin that are also associated with the Cursed ones, though for entirely different reasons; he's not weak to sunlight, just allergic to it.

Alongside silver allergies, It is common for Ether vampires to have sunlight allergy in varying levels of severity. In his case it is a medium level case, where he'll develop rashes and nausea after thirty minutes of exposed direct sunlight, but can counter it by just covering up, and cloudy days he can be outside during daytime mostly without problems. (Worst cases absolutely can't tolerate it at all and come out only at night, and even then may have to avoid moonlight as it is reflected sunlight)

His occultism spirit tricks can naturally be countered by exorcism abilities.

Personality:

Cornel is a very calm and collected man with a somewhat clinical way of thinking, having been a doctor in the past. He has a scientist's curiosity, with somewhat lacking moral compass, though he still has some principles left; he doesn't feed from minors or pregnant women, and tends to refuse blood offers from those with mental illnesses like depression. (Now he if he doesn't know and finds out later, he tends to shrug it off though)

He is quite sadistic and enjoys toying with his targets, often terrorizing them half to death before actually killing them (he works as a personal assassin for his boss as well). That being said, if he respects you enough (like he does Camilla) he'll listen if told to knock it off.

Cornel can be quite charming and polite man to talk with, though he can also get very passive aggressive, and if he doesn't particularly care for you - but the dislike isn't strong enough for murder - his contempt will ooze out of every word, to the point his boss finds it funny.

He can hold a grudge for a long time, but is also an opportunist and a patient man, knowing when it is for the best to leave things be for now, and wait for a perfect time to strike.

BG Story

Cornel's early days are a mystery, what is known that he divulged information he shouldn't have to people in human world, and that led to him becoming a wanted fugitive, who violently dispatched his would-be-captors. (he has indicated his birth family was shit) Cornel ended up faking his death eventually to get away from the Shadowless. He ended up working with a mob family eventually in human world, the sister of the Barones family boss. (Barones were the family my MC Avane's boyfriend used to serve as well) He was eventually asked by Camilla to eliminate her brother who was going off the deep end with his obsession over his "ex boyfriend" who'd escaped his clutches two years ago, endangering the family business. He happily obliged, having never really liked the man in truth, given the curse he'd placed upon the "boyfriend" in question that Cornel had noticed. He'd never spoken out for Roman as he hadn't cared about the Grimmhound really, but had always found his essentially forced servitude rather distasteful.

Fun Facts:

His other hand is darkened and has a spiral-y pattern around his shoulder as a reference to his occultism powers & immortality rune spell.

The mob family Cornel works for was the one A Grimmhound named Roman was in, before he was rescued by his now girlfriend Ava (my mc).

DeVos initially develops an admiring crush on Cornel because he reminds Vee of his ex friend/friends-with-benefits Angus, but overtime Vee realizes that Cornel is actually really terrifying and awful, and not at all what Vee liked about Angus. (Cornel plays a role in Vee's somewhat-of-a-redemption arc before his death, by giving him this moment of enlightenment)

Cornel's boss lets him feed from her sometimes, though he doesn't really ask for it (it often leads to more intimate things too...)

Cornel and Samar don't really get along that well, but have a level of respect for each other's strength, knowing the other could seriously cause some damage to them. (Samar is also not exactly immune to his vampire charm, unfortunately...)

Cornel finds DeVos an amusing little 'child' due to his initial idolization and a level of naivety. (Cornel pretty much figures out instantly from Vee's stories why he got rejected)

Cornel and Angus are kind of parallels in general; both are doctors with feared powers that utilize blood, both had tough upbringing, and their colors are kind of complementary; Angus' main (accent) color is yellow, whereas Cornel is purple.

Cornel's style is very victorian goth inspired, though does include striking lighter colors for contrast like that light lilac coat.

i for some reason see homestuck as an "invalid" source to take muse from, which is bizarre, considering most of my favorite artists take characters from things i believe to have a similar vibe to them. i look at the political creepypasta comics i hold dearly, and art of cuphead characters and restaurant mascots taken for comics, and pokemon, and my little pony, and anyone who takes characters for their own exploration and feel myself growing jealous that they "have" that, while i don't. but what exactly am i wanting that i think they have? i don't know. i think what i want that i project onto them is the ability to create art with their muse that is still undeniably theirs. i've made this post so many times, but if i were to make homestuck art about the confines of the fiction itself, it's not going to be seen as meta art, it's not going to be seen as art made by my hands about my experience. it's going to be seen as fan art made by a homestuck fan. and it makes me feel sick. i wish i knew how i could get over this, because lets be honest. i want to make a fan adventure. that's why i'm so hung up over this. i want to make an ask blog/fan adventure that's about exploring shared childhood psychosis irg to kinning and childhood abuse, but i don't want that label to follow me. it's at odds with my morals: if you want something and crave something bad enough you have to exist as it without worrying about what others will label you as. but for some reason this ones really got me, i don't mind it in any other situations, but i don't want to go down in history as a homestuck artist. or maybe i do, but not in a fanartist way. i don't know. why couldn't i have a special interest in a vintage series no one cares about so i could make "fan content" about it and have it still be regarded as my own art and artistically driven instead of just fandom shlop? how can i save myself from falling back into a rabbit hole of fans going "lol what kind of drugs were you on when you were making this" or "this isnt even in character" like fuck.

My name is Gérard, or Renard.

This is a personal blog made for a headmate. Our system's main blog is @starholdsystem, you can check it out for some art we posted. I identify as a fictive and a fictionkin(d). And thus, I am (or at least consider myself to be) Gérard de Villefort from a novel called The Count of Monte-Cristo (tcomc).

Since this is the personal blog, while some of the posts here might be fandom or tcomc related, this is still mostly the place where I come to express my own thoughts and explore my identity, and a bit of my trauma.

Because its so cute! It's sweet, and kind, and forgiving, and just asdfghjk its just the best. Without FF we wouldnt have shows like The Owl House so think about that okay?

I mean, come on. A pair or group of people that know little about or nothing about each other become fiercely protective and loving towards the others. They consider each other family through shared experiences and traumas, loving and caring for each other as if they were kin.

Pacifist characters need more love, they often are either in stories that mock their conviction and get hated for it, or in stories that are contrived to reward them improbably for said convictions and also get hated for it, but it's very cool when a pacifist character can persevere and, even if they don't always succeed, make meaningful change in a world that doesn't hold their hand for it, because they are just that awesome and unflappable.
