Powers in Camp Jupiter
Wow I’ve posted a lot today lol-
Finally! Another long, ‘Camp Jupiter general Hc’ post. I’ve just been thinking a lot on powers the more I’ve been dipping my toes into learning about Rome and its culture and how I want to incorporate that into New Rome and Camp (literally I mention it once so don’t get any hopes up for like in depth Ancient Rome stuff and it just affected my thought process for how the Romans might think similarly to powers as they did other things). Also this is another post going, ‘this is a weird thing in camp that is never explained but doesn’t make sense to me so this is how I’d go about explaining it’ post, enjoy :]
But first things first; I think Camp puts a heavy importance on physical skill, that powers are somewhat frowned upon. That Camp Jupiter would put a higher importance on someone’s capabilities without the powers, and that power usage is something that generally the Camp doesn’t like acknowledging- I’ll go more in depth on what I mean but first I wanna talk about how I got to this conclusion making sense in my mind,
This did make sense in my brain because it fills the little gap where we don’t see a lot of Camp Jupiter power embracing or whatever. We get Hazel being worried over her powers because of the like cursed aspect? Which is a whole other can of worms that I don’t like the plot point on- but whatever. Hazel’s thing feels weird that she wouldn’t explain it, now I am obviously not a Hazel analyzer- but I do have a pretty solid characterization of Camp in my head and I feel that is something that they would 100% want to and need to know. Along with the apparent lack of notable power usage in Camp Jupiter- we don’t see it in the same way that we see over at Half-Blood, now this could be because Camp has like 0 important characters. But I feel like during the war games there would be more people taking advantage of powers, where it’s specifically called out when Percy is doing it because it’s odd in the setting- it stands out (yes it probably was called out for Rick to be like “Look at how cool and powerful Percy is guys!” But whatever-) but that bleeds into the first gorgon chase scene, where it’s notable that again; it’s only Percy using his powers openly, it’s the legionnaires that are looking on in bewilderment, confusion.
Of course there are the 4 main outliers I think of about this power thing; Reyna, Jason, Octavian, and Bryce Lawrence. But I’ll talk about what I think their situations are.
Anyway, I believe this seeming power-aversion in camp Jupiter (was probably not planned and Rick just kind of forgot about Demigods and how probable it would be that they’d display them more often for the general quality of life improvements they’d give-) could be caused by a couple factors,
The abundance of Legacy’s at camp and at New Rome; we aren’t sure how legacies work (because they are all over the place and we never get set power levels on them) but it would make logical sense that powers became more niche or less potent through generations (this obviously has outliers, and its own holes but I’ll justify this take in another post probably just about legacies-) and this would lead to less and less importance on powers- because why would a community see them as important when the majority of them don’t have very potent ones, or very general ones and it’s more simple to just not use them than hone either a very weak skill or a very niche skill.
The importance of Strength in New Rome and Camp Jupiter’s community; based partially on Ancient Romes importance on Masculinity (which I will not be mentioning much because I am just a silly black cat on the internet and I don’t have the knowledge about Romes masculinity thing) and just what we see from the very concept of Camp Jupiter’s go through Lupa’s training and survive or die, Camp Jupiter’s no magic barrier of protection, the military camp. Conquer or Die. It all places a very big importance on one’s personal strength- their strategic mind, physical prowess, ability to work together as a unit in the army. That the powers could possibly be seen almost as a cheat- that why would you use your powers when you have your training, are you weak? Do you not trust in what you’ve been taught? The Societal idea were given for the Romans is strength- and why use your powers if you are physically capable enough. And everyone is physically capable enough to be a Roman, to Conquer or Die.
Okay on a probably lighter note (idk I was reading the upper passage and that sounded pretty intense-) but also the fact that powers just feel like they wouldn’t be a good thing in Camp’s military settings. Camp Jupiter puts its importance on their military and fighting prowess, their form, the discipline. It’s much harder to fight in coordination if everyone is doing anything that isn’t related to other skills. The fact that the Cohorts aren’t godly ancestor-specific adds to that. So it just doesn’t seem reasonable knowing Camps whole thing.
Okay those three all are my ideas on the surrounding factors that make powers less used and more taboo in Camp/New Rome. This could explain why camp doesn’t display their powers. While it gives more reason for the reactions to Percy other than everyone being suprised at how cool and powerful he is or something idk, it gives Hazel more reason to hide her precious riches power thing.
Now the Outliers, people in camp that comfortably and openly use and display their powers (not including Percy, maybe idk- we’ll see)
First Reyna; we know that Reyna openly used her Bellona strength, warrior spirit and bravery sharing powers that also take away pain? Idk how they explain it but we get that in BoO the knowledge that when leading the Romans into battle Reyna would use her powers. I think this can be explained away by 1st off it’s not that noticeable so might be likely that the legion doesn’t even know she did that, secondly it could be considered that they considered her ability a outlier to the notion- it directly helps them win so I guess they don’t mind, sure they’ll be upset about it but they won’t openly object to it.
Secondly Jason and his wild skill set; he’s Jupiter’s son, pretty much Lupa’s adopted kid and Camp’s prince. They’d let him do whatever, he’s Jupite’rs son! I think they’d be super hypocritical and think him and the powers make him stronger and cooler and whatever because he’s Jupiter’s son and canonically we know they put him on a pedestal and thought he pretty much could do no wrong when he was younger so I think it’s reasonable to assume legionnaires would go along with Jason pulling lightning bolts from thin air and just going, “That’s so cool Jason!!! Yeaaah you go man!” And then turning around and ostracizing someone that used like their water-bending because like- why not just use your actual skill, no need to be a show off, y’know Dave from the 3rd cohort could’ve done that just with his Pugio and a bendy straw.
Octavian; it’s his job. I think Augur’s generally get a pass because it’s their job to be all mysterious and otherworldly and do all the cool retelling prophecies and omens. And he needs the powers to do that so of course he gets a pass.
Bryce Lawerence; he’s a freak (nicely, I love him) but he gives 0 crap if people don’t like it. They can just go to the fields of punishment for all he cares. He literally murdered someone and lit a cat on fire. There is no way in Hades that this man cares about some power taboo. If he wants to do it he’ll do it and if anyone wants to say anything they can suck his spear handle.
Overall; Camp Jupiter are Hypocrites when it comes to powers (obviously, I feel like for many reasons they are hypocrites in many other fields-) and this gives better reason that Octavian and Micheal didn’t immediately drag Percy into the 1st cohort. Because like- you know they would’ve and I think that would’ve been more interesting than the 5th cohort underdog story (like, Hazel and Frank could’ve been the main pushers of that plot and I feel that would’ve been cooler-)
But if we want to stay with Percy being put in the 5th (which if anyone wants to know for my re-imagining he is totally put in the 1st because that gives us an opening to actually characterize notable characters a lot more-) this powers thing gives a reason. All the legion knows about this kid is that he’s got a mouth on him, attracts monsters like a neon billboard with a giant arrow on it, and relies on his powers constantly. And in Camp Jupiter where obedience and discipline are cherished, they don’t need to deal with any more monsters their hands are already full, and that everyone like collectively hates their powers from societal norms. It makes more sense that none of the more notable cohorts would want to tarnish their names or reputation by bringing him on board- so of course the 5th is forced to take him.
Okay that’s my rant on how the community of Romans don’t like their powers unless they can serve a purpose of aiding the army, your the child of Jupiter, or it’s your job.
I am sleepy and therefore I bid you all a good night.

Ghostface's accidentally hurting you during their murders headcanons
(1587 words)
Tumblr media
Billy Loomis
--- however, you ended up getting hurt if he was there when it happened, he would panic whether he was in costume or not. It’s a mix of hurting you and fears if hesitates to attack you it might make him look suspicious.
--- After whatever happened he would urge you to leave town or not go to Stu’s party since he uses the excuse it is a “breeding ground for murder” but since he’s going to the party you called him out for being a hypocrite.
--- At some point, he runs out of excuses and either drops it or confesses to being Ghostface to you. If he tells you the Ghostface before you can freak out, he tells you his whole story, but it most likely does not sway, you are not really. Depending on how close you were to him, you might have even agreed not to tell anyone or even help. As much as I would like to think that you wouldn't report him to the police you probably would, but you don’t really have any evidence.
Tumblr media
Stu Matcher
--- Stu is very protective of you before anything actually happens, but when something does happen however it does, he is very guilty. When you get injured if he’s the one who does it he tries his best to retreat. If he is not, he is the first to you if he's there when it happens.
--- After you are injured, he might not even throw the party or at least he would keep it smaller so you would not know about it, so you don’t come since he and Billy have plans with Sidney that night.
--- Billy would probably not be happy that he was reconsidering their plans because of you. Stu might even back out if he were to back out, he would probably be killed so he probably does not do that. Stu most likely still throws the party, just turns on Billy last minute, or tries to minimize the fallout of the murders for your sake.
Tumblr media
Mickey Altieri
--- It was never Mickey's intention to care for you so much no less care when he hurts you by accident during his murders. He starts to fear that his feelings for you will get in the way of his “efficiency” so he tries to find a way to get you out of the way without having to hurt you again.
--- he decides to take the risk and gets closer to you before continuing the murders, of course, Ms. Loomis is not thrilled but he has a plan, it requires him to be closer to you which he doesn't mind at all since he likes you.
--- At some point, you guys start dating for a while and he takes this opportunity to execute his plan. He confesses to being Ghostface and asks you to join him. Depending on your attraction to murder it might have worked or not.
--- If you do agree you two become partners in crime for the remaining murders and you guys might have even succeeded with the murder plot. Of course, Ms. Loomis would have still probably taken advantage of Mickey, but since you were there, you might have killed Ms. Loomis before that became a problem.
Tumblr media
Roman Bridger
--- As soon as you got hurt Roman panicked and started trying to find you a way out of town. Of course, it was not too hard to do that at least for him.
--- Roman offered to whisk you away on vacation he said that staying would not be safe and a vacation is always nice.
--- Of course, you agreed since you trusted Roman. Of course, later you found out he was Ghostface which probably destroyed your trust in anyone for a while. Therapy will be needed!
(Sorry I didn't have any ideas for roman)
Tumblr media
Jill Roberts
--- When Jill accidentally hurt you during the murders, she had to face the fact that she had to kill you or deal with you in some other way. She was trying to avoid the thought that it was not something she wanted to think about. Nevertheless, she decided to just keep you out of the way, so you won’t be an issue.
--- After the stab marathon was canceled and they go to the Kirby house for the after-party she tries to make sure you won’t know that the after-party is going on since she doesn't want you to be a problem and make it harder for her to execute her plans.
--- you end up showing up since Robbie live streams while he's there and you recognize the outside of the house. You show up a little after Jill kills Charlie. You see Robbie's corpse so you run inside to find Jill and Sidney.
--- Jill is a very good manipulator and you guys are really close, so she deters you from calling the cops. She tells you to go home instead of staying to aid in her story. Jill loves you but does not trust you to corporate her story, since of how carefully she crafted the timeline to work in her favor and she also didn’t want you getting cold feet last minute.
--- When the cops ask later you tell them you were not there that night, and they believe you but soon after it’s all for nothing since Jill ends up being caught in the end.
Tumblr media
Charlie Walker
--- you're the first person to ever acknowledge him romantically, so when you end up getting yourself hurt during his and Jill's little murder spree he feels guilty.
--- He starts being very clingy I mean more than usual since he wants to keep you safe, he finds that he can keep you safe if as long as he's not in the Ghostface costume he can keep you close, and safe.
--- He still helps Jill but insists that you are not invited to the after-party. First of all, part of the plan was to get romantic with Kibry so that when he is tied to the chair later she will want to help him.
--- you find out about the after party but just a little late. You show up just as the police do and they find Charlie dead and Jill the only survivor. Later you find out from the news and Sidney that Charlie and Jill were the killers.
Tumblr media
Amber Freeman
--- It was never Amber's intention to get you involved, she actually wanted you as far away as possible but it was not working out that way since you ended up in the crossfire.
--- At some point, she realized she had to do something with you, but she couldn't kill you. She didn’t want to, so she made a distraction.
--- she couldn't have you showing up to the party so she slashed the tires on your car and bike so you couldn't leave. She understood after she and Richie finished the job she would never be able to see you again, but she thought that was better for you and her own good.
--- you found yourself walking to the party, but it took a little while and you ended up showing out around the time the police did and you found out what happened with Amber and Richie, and it all made sense.
Tumblr media
Ethan Landry
--- Ethan did not like the emotional trouble he found himself in when it came to you. He loved you but he also felt a loyalty to his family, to his father. When you had accidentally gotten yourself hurt in the apartment scuffle, he could not forgive himself but for now, in fear, his father would kill him like his mother, so he kept his mouth shut.
--- In an effort to try to keep you safe he tried to keep you as far away from the main group as possible since Tara and Sam specifically Sam was their main target it was best if you avoided the group but of course, you didn’t listen since you didn’t know why he was asking you too you thought he was jealous.
--- When he, his father, and his sister revealed themselves at the theater he regretted it almost as soon as he did it, he hated the pain in your eyes. Later on in the scuffle, he turned on his father and sister in an effort to make up for what he’s done. Whether it worked or not is up to how eager you are to forgive a killer because he was pressured into it.
Tumblr media
Quinn Bailey
--- Quinn would get very quickly attached to you in a way that differs from all the others she slept with. She cared for you and wanted to keep you safe from her life as a Ghostface. She didn’t want to have to hurt you, but she ended up doing just that and she knew she had to take greater measures.
--- she would find reasons to keep you far away from her till she and her family were done with all the Ghostface things of course it didn’t keep you away for long. So, she faked her death; you can’t be around her if she was not “alive”.
--- Since Quinn’s “death” you grew closer to Sam, Tara, Chad, and Mindy. It was good for you to have friends while you are grieving, but not so good for Quinn's conscience. You were not allowed into the theater for the Ghostface trap. So, you had to find out secondhand what became of Quinn which was not great for you.

III.
Viktor stood frozen, the voice that whispered those words echoing against the walls of his head as he gazed upon the creature before him, a figure blindingly bright yet of simultaneously all-consuming darkness. The sight obscured his thoughts and left him adrift in a sea of terror. How could he have been so blind as to believe that he could command such power without consequence? Or rather, was it the naivete of believing nothing would come of it that turned against him?
The very essence of his faith fractured—that earth-shattering feeling that had become all too common for him that day—threatened by this insidious presence. What had he unleashed upon the world? What horrors awaited him in the wake of his hubris? Viktor trembled, and his soul lay bare before the abyss, but something sinister took him out of this blossoming meltdown; she, the creature, looked familiar.
And achingly so, yet her form eluded him like a half-remembered dream. Faces swirled in the depths of his memory, merging and shifting like shadows cast by a flickering flame, but he was unable to put a finger on them.
"Do you not recognize me, Viktor?" Her voice cut through the air, eerily sweet.
Viktor recoiled in horror at the sound of his own name coming out of her mouth, the weight of her words crashing down upon him.
“I manifest to you as a reflection of your own desires, an amalgamation of every soul you have ever yearned for, sweet human.” She hissed as she offered Viktor a hand to help him stand, her touch oddly warm as they both sat on the bed. “Do you not see it? That young woman from the bakery, or the one you always look at for a tad too long while you buy turnips? You don’t even like turnips,” she smiled slightly. “What about that woman who comes to confess every week? The one with the slightly hoarse voice that you love, even that tan young man with the green eyes,. Yes, yes, I know about him too; I am him too.”
“Who…what are you?” He asked amidst a short-lived surge of bravery.
“My name is Legion,” she said with an off-putting tone of irony, “for we are many... or however that verse goes. Mawkishly sentimental if you ask me.” She chuckled and seemed to deflate in disappointment at her attempt at humor not being acknowledged. She sighed in oddly human-like resignation, “I don’t have a name, Viktor, but I know yours , and you know what I am.”
"I seek nothing from the likes of you, Demon, you don’t know me." he declared, though doubt gnawed at him.
"You do, and it is the truth that I know you; your biggest fear is to remain ignorant and blind to the truths that lie beyond the veil of your mortal existence; I can feel it. " She whispered against his ear.
"You are but a trick of the darkness; I will not succumb to your temptations."
"Oh, but Viktor, you already have ," she purred. "You summoned me here, drawn by your own curiosity. Your anger simmers beneath that stoic surface, against the silence of the heavens and the absence of answers to your prayers. But I answered, so why direct your anger at me ?"
“I have faith in Him; God will intercede in my favor.” He said, covering his face ith both hands, afraid his expression would betray something that confirmed her accusations.
“Yet you question his wisdom and his justice. You resent his silence, you doubt .”
“I love Him, and I will repent; I will.”
“Why? Faith without cynicism is a hollow shell. Will you let yourself be domesticated like a beast? A man of science like yourself?”
The spark of courage grew into embers inside Viktor’s chest at the mention of his work. Although he remained silent, not wanting to concede, she saw it in him, just like she experienced every emotion that grew within the transparent exterior that contained his soul.
“Embrace this fire, and you will obtain what you seek.” She said, gently laying a hand over Viktor’s.
His shoulders slumped in resignation, but even as he acquiesced to her demands, a seed of guilt still remained. What would God think of him now for consorting with a creature of darkness? Would he be cast aside and condemned for eternity for his folly?
"What do you fear, judgement?” Viktor nodded.
“Your god is nothing but an egregore," she declared, her voice a whisper. "A figment of mortal imagination, born from the collective beliefs of humanity, he only has power over you if you allow it."
“God is my shepherd, He…” He started to recite, but his voice betrayed him.
“Yahweh, Tetragrammaton, Adonai, El, Elohim, Shaddai, Tzevaot… it does not matter who you so fervently pray to! Ancient egregores hold no power over the ancient gods.” She started saying in a firm tone, her volume high in affront. “And you, my sweet, are so unfortunately Christ hunted…a lot of work to be done.” She continued, her voice tuning back down to her previously silky tone.
Viktor's breath caught in his throat, but simultaneously, the weight of her words lifted a heavy chain that had previously hung around his neck. Although this—his God’s identity and how much power He held—seemed to be a point of contention between him and his conscience, every word she uttered seemed to confirm things he had been long thinking about. But the smell of culpability Viktor emanated was pungent, and what she saw in his heart was a whirlwind.
She was proud that he had let himself be guided by his urges, that he had, even if only for a small moment, felt true freedom in pleasure. She felt his fear when he remembered he would need to face father Isidore and then she felt his rage. He felt so strongly against him that for a second she imagined he would be nothing short of a monster, his robust yet sweet face was an interesting sight to find framed in Viktor’s memory.
She felt sympathy and sadness and confusion, she felt worried for the young girl with the twin braids just like Viktor had, and felt intrigued as to how she had come in possession of her coin, but what mattered most to her in that moment was one problematic sensation; despondency. Viktor was close to giving up, he had nearly decided rage was useless and so was science.
“Let’s begin by working on the heavy guilt you carry.” She said, after a long silence. Viktor noticed an unsettling tenderness in her eyes when he, for the first time, looked directly into them.
“I made a vow.” He answered, his voice breaking as it turned into a whisper.
"Do not let the chains of guilt bind you, Viktor," she murmured. "The church may preach of purity and righteousness, but it is built upon a foundation of hypocrisy, and you don’t need me to tell you as much.”
“I know of the behavior of some members of the clergy, but why should...”
“I don’t speak of individual transgressions; the church as an institution seeks to negate eroticism and sexuality, yet it embraces them in its most sacred rites.”
The deeply puzzled expression in Viktor’s face prompted her to elaborate.
“Think about the things you do during sacrament; think of the smell of incense, the touching of beads, the kissing of sacred objects, the rubbing of oils... Think about consuming the physical body of the idol you adore, and think about what it makes you feel—enlightenment, apotheosis. Remember the deep pleasure you extracted from the pain of self-penitence? It’s nearly devine, is it not? That necessity to envelop all senses?”
Viktor nodded.
“And that feeling you get of being close to god in a way that nothing else will get you to—that sensation of being outside the perception of time and space—have you experienced it?”
“I have, in prayer.”
“Can I show you what true ecstasy feels like? One that starts and culminates in yourself without any divine intervention?
And once again, Viktor simply nodded. The air crackled with a tension thick enough to suffocate him, his breath shallow and rapid. A rush of anticipation surged through him, mingling with a primal curiosity that threatened to consume him whole as she slithered behind him. The shift of weight on the mattress gave him a strange awareness of the materiality of what was taking place, and the hot breath on the left side of his neck caused the last string of sanity holding him together to loosen.
For a second, he wondered if she was nothing but a very sly yet human woman that had somehow found a way into his room, but that idea was quickly quenched as both of her hands slowly glided along the sides of his still-clothed thighs, emanating that unnatural white glow that was clearly not of mortal nature.
Her touch was delicate and warm, her nails slowly creeping up to the hem of his cassock as she pulled it up to reveal the trousers underneath. If Viktor had any idea of what she planned on doing, he would have been of more help, adjusting to make his clothing easier to remove, but unaware of what awaited him, he sat there immobile.
After some mild struggle, she managed to get to the stubborn clasp, and the slight accidental touches ignited a fire within Viktor's veins, sending tendrils of heat coursing through his body. Soon enough, there was nothing in between them, and the cold air that came into contact with the streak of viscosity that had dampened his underpants sent goosebumps across his arms.
She hadn’t even made her way to his cock yet, but with each gentle caress around his stomach and thighs, Viktor's senses were heightened to a fever pitch, his body aflame with a hunger that burned brighter than any candle. With the first feather touch along his shaft, he felt as if he were teetering on the edge of a precipice, poised on the brink of a pleasure so exquisite it bordered on agony.
And then, with a slow and deliberate motion, her hand closed around him, sending shockwaves of ecstasy racing through every fiber of his being. A guttural moan escaped his lips as she began to move, her rhythm mechanic and intoxicating. With every teasing stroke, Viktor's breath hitched, his body responding eagerly to her touch.
"Ah…God!" he gasped, his voice a hoarse whisper of longing.
She froze on her tracks, drawing out a protesting whine from Viktor. “Do not call upon his name now; at this moment, you belong to me .” She spoke, her voice still sweet but laced with a tinge of resentment.
Viktor's mind swam in a haze, his thoughts fragmented and disjointed as he desperately nodded in agreement, before she resumed the pace of her moment. And then Viktor felt himself hurtling his head back onto her shoulder, his world reduced to nothing. She gently removed the sweat-drenched pieces of hair from his forehead and whispered words in a language he could not understand while her hand continued its path down to his neck and back.
For a second, he felt a reminder of the stinging pain on his shoulder blades, and then it faded. As he reached the climax of his arousal, he cried out desperate pleas, only this time to her and himself, finally surrendering to this intoxicating embrace. After letting him breathe for a while, she took one of his hands in hers and placed the copper coin on it. Viktor knew he was bound to her now.
And in that moment, there was no room for guilt or shame, only the unquenchable thirst for more.

i understand why the 'jesus was a radical socialist who hung out with women, preached wealth redistribution, and fought religious authorities' is a popular trope, especially as a response to the insane conservatism of american christianity, and i don't think factually it's wrong. but i have a few reservations abt the way it gets thrown around
main one is that it tends to become a thought-terminating cliche. if 'jesus was a socialist' is meant to be a clickbait summary of who Jesus was that encourages people to go back to the gospels and read with fresh eyes untinged by right-wing stupidity, great.
But I feel like it often gets used as a substitute for the text - and so rather than, say, going back to actually radical things Jesus said, people appeal to the popular construct of radical socialist feminist Jesus in a very vibes-based way. Jesus becomes defined as 'guy who shares all my exact political beliefs and can be invoked against hypocritical Christians'.
and i think that then means people don't seriously think about stuff he says that might actually be controversial. Is Jesus' hard-line anti-divorce stance harmful? Is 'turn the other cheek' endorsing silently submitting to abuse? Is his claim that looking on a woman with lust is just the same as adultery purity culture? Is 'carry your cross' romanticising suffering? Is the way the Gospel authors frame the Pharisees as corrupt religious authorities actually anti-Semitic and historically unfair? Is his relative silence about Roman colonisation problematic?
Obviously, these texts have historical context and are open to interpretation etc (as are the Old Testament and Paul, which get the opposite extreme from Jesus of being flanderised into consistently nasty). But I think the ideal socialist Jesus figure de-historicises him in a distorting way (for example, projecting anti-capitalism on someone who existed before capitalism did).
And lest it seem like I'm picking on Socialist Jesus, I think this is true of all the soundbite Jesuses. Meek and mild storybook Jesus, conservative 'love the sinner hate the sin' Jesus, unrecognisably mangled American Jesus, generic spiritual Jesus erased of his Jewish heritage. Some of these are outright wrong (American Jesus), some of these are entirely true but incomplete (storybook Jesus, who, in fairness, is aimed at literal children); I would say Socialist Jesus is by far one of the best.
But I think it's still a very static, flanderised way to understand someone who is a real, living person, who calls people into a relationship with him. and so i understand it from general secular society; I don't have strong opinions on the Buddha and so i generally stick to 'he seemed like a decent guy with weird ideas', so I understand people not having deep-dive opinions on Jesus either. but i think for Christians especially, we do have a bit of an obligation to go beyond just reducing Jesus to soundbites, even when they are true.

This morning I will go to church and I like the friends and feeling of belonging I have there, but I still have no investment in the faith or beliefs. The feel so hypocritical or just for display, instead of a truth. What I mean is this. For breakfast I am having leftover stale tortilla chips. Because that is all I have right now. And if I were to tell people I know there or almost anyone at church really, that I have no money and no food and I need medicine and help. The standard response is "Have you checked the church pantry?" or "I will pray for you" or "You should call the Salvation Army". All of which are fine responses. And suggestions. They may even ease my situation. But they are completely at odds with the teachings they sit and hear for 2 hours every Sunday. Jesus never said "If a man comes to you in need, tell them to ask someone else" and he never put responsibility for Christian charity or community on other people. He was very clear on what it is expected of his followers. That they themselves act on their merit and own actions.
Matthew 25:35-37 ‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
And Paul wrote
Romans 12:20 ‘If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.‘
And James wrote
James 2:15-16 ‘Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?‘ This is all right there in the bible. And even more so Jesus clearly talked about even bad people or enemies suing or stealing from you and still acting in Christian charity
Matthew 5:40 'If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also." But this is not what I see. I see all the hands in the air and the voices singing and the smiles and the handshakes and how are you's. But then thee actions, don't speak of belief or faith. And I want to be sure to say I am not entitled to fuck all. No one is. Nor does anyone owe me anything. And anything I may receive is grace of the kindest order. But if you are going to wave a flag, man. Be of the flag or be honest. The modern church is so full of people who think that dropping a few bucks in the collections dish (or e-pad) or donating at Christmas time is doing your duty to your beliefs and faith. And that is absolutely not true. There is now where in biblical teaching or dogma that says "If you throw in a an anonymous sheckle you have served your duty to Christ". No matter how much some may try to twist verses and slogans to say otherwise. Jesus the dude was very clear in his instruction and beliefs. I like the dude Jesus is reported to believe and I like the lessons his story sends. But I don't like the religion around his teachings. I left it for many years and I still have no real belief in god. I try but...I just can't re-ignite that. I just feel like it's all an act. All for show. And I want to find belief. And action. In the same person. Maybe I just want to feel like if I said to someone "I had stale chips for breakfast", they wouldn't hand it off or act like praying for me or anyone is enough. Maybe I just want to see people who live their faith and acting on it. Yeah i know I am sounding kind of crusty and probably a bit hypocritical myself. It is just how I feel right now. I have sat in the huge homes and businesses of too many church members who I never see actually acting in any way that could be called truly Christian. But I have seen the poorest of people who would give you their coat because that is the teaching. It all seems wrong.

TW: Sucide, toxic relationship, slavery, abuser and victim
My biggest pet peeve with stans regardless of the fandom they are in is always "you would've like female character if they were a man" No. Just stop.
If you want the biggest example of everyone hating on a male character even if they swap genders is none other than GOT Jeffrey.
That spoiled brat has no irredeemable qualities he's just a spoiled stuck up brat who everyone cheered when he died.
HOWEVER im not saying that there ISNT any misogyny towards female character/villains because no matter what fandom you are in there will be misogyny most towards fandom that has a large male fanbase (example Star Wars, Star Trek, Game of Thrones, Assassin's Creed, etc.)
Having a valid reason to hate a female character/villain is NOT misogyny. I hate Neo because the shows wants us to feel sorry for her because she didn't know what to do after Roman's death but are we forgetting an episode ago she DROVE RUBY TO SUCIDE USING PEOPLE SHE KNOW and then she redeemed herself by killing Cat?
FUCK THAT!
Regardless if Neo was a male anyone who drove someone to sucide will never be liked by me or anyone else.
Here's another one Leonora from Castlevanina is hated because she made Hector a slave and saw him as a pet yet she started to develop feelings for him the more time she spent with him. And many people are disgusted because 1) she enslaved Hector and then develop have feelings and 2) because of the obvious power imbalance/relationship of the abuser and victim.
If a character has a trait that triggers the audience or they don't like them for any actions then they can have a reason why they dislike not. I have many female characters that I hate with valid criticism just how much I hate male characters for that same reason.
Yeah, here's the thing, if I actually thought that anti-rwde posters were honestly concerned about misogyny, I would be very sympathetic.
Every single time a piece of media so much as passes the Bechdol test or has a woman that never wears a bikini, there are a bunch of misogynistic idiots and dudebros who hate it or those women. And in the modern day, only hardcore Trump supporters are out here out and out saying that they hate women and are misogynists and that's why they hate whatever it is they're ranting against. People do very much so use perfectly valid (or not so valid) "real criticisms" because they don't want to say the honest truth, or because they themselves wouldn't recognize their own misogyny. Recognizing that just because someone SAYS they hate a female character because of an action that they did doesn't mean they're not a misogynist is kind of important. The guys who harassed the actress of Rose Tico off of Twitter all hid behind 'valid reasons' for their criticism too.
But here's the thing:
1. It's important to be able to figure out what is and isn't actually a sign of misogyny. There's not a precise rule, but you can do things like see if the thing they hate is an exception or the rule, or see if they're hypocritical about their reasons, or see what kind of language people use. If they come around with "brat" "bitch" "cunt" for female characters, that's a red flag at best!! But yeah, ANY criticism of that kind of thing isn't automatically misogynistic. It's like yeah, a bunch of misogynists hated Taurial in the Hobbit because she's a woman and yes they disguised that by claiming it was for other reasons, but there ARE very valid criticisms and complaints about Taurial and you have to be willing to hear out those things instead if just blanket assigning 'misogyny.' Lots of things from Arcane to something as bad as Twilight has perfectly valid haters that are fine, and then also a bunch of misogynists that are going to pretend or really think they have valid reasons. Somone being unable to tell the two apart probably means that person is too close to the situation and too defensive, but these critics don't want to admit that maybe they're wrong.
2. If this was something like Steven Universe, then the defensiveness would make more sense. If it were a well written slow burn with a cast of characters with well rounded dynamics that the writers put work into and the show was about rebels trying to fight the system for a peaceful life and the show had never sexualized the women and there was hard-fought for groundbreaking queer rep and it was created by a Jewish bisexual non-binary woman, and there were mistakes and valid criticisms of the series, but also a lot of unjustified venom of nothing but bad-faith... Then we'd be having a different conversation. Instead it's a show about badge-carrying law enforcement officers, who fight the evil civil rights group from upsetting the status quo, in a show that has tons of things just 'happen off screen,' with a history of sexualizing some of the main female characters, that only recently confirmed any main character as queer years behind the curve, and that was created by and mostly written for by a bunch of straight cis men most of them having said or done misogynistic things. Anti-rwde posters like to pretend that there's no reason why a great completely non-problematic misunderstood stand-up show like RWBY made with love by the totally not at all a part of RT "CRWBY" should be hated, and therefore it must be because of misogyny, but they aren't living in reality.
3. Most anti-rwde posters actually don't really care about misogyny and they aren't actually basing this on - for lack of a better word - good faith. They don't care about Jaune harem fics or the fanarts of RWBY girls with giant breasts in bikinis, and they don't call out the writers or even RT for their bigotry, and they have quite literally Trump supporters that post anti-rwde stuff, but none of that matters. Instead they spend their time harassing a group of mostly queer women for *checks notes* criticizing a show written by mostly men.
So yeah. I've seen misogyny in rwde posters tbh, and I don't think that "I have valid reasons for disliking them" is always proof that there isn't misogyny at play, but the anti-rwde accusations are nothing, because not only are they blind to the flaws of the show and the writers and are unable to recognize the difference between misogyny and just criticism, but also they're only using these accusations as a screen anyway, because they only ever go after rwde posters with it and are unwilling to call out the blatant misogyny in the rest of the fandom, in the show, or in the writers room. I would take this seriously if I thought this was an actual concern of theirs, but it isn't. They don't actually care about misogyny, they just want their show to be above criticism.
(By the way, I've never seen Game of Thrones or Castlevania so I can't speak to it, and also I like Neo a lot lol. XD Personally for me, villains doing bad things doesn't typically blacklist them for me so long as they're entertaining.)

Margaret's courting of potential suitors began quickly and intensely. For Frankie, this meant a lot of sitting silently drinking tea or eating food while Margaret made dull small talk with the suitor and her mama made dull small talk with the suitor's parents.
Tumblr media
For Margaret, there were suitors with clear potential and others where their first meeting was clearly to be their last.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To Frankie, they all seemed equally hopeless: none of them were showing any real personality or interest; they were all saying the same polite things in the same polite way. In fairness to the suitors, Frankie hated that Maggie was doing the same; Frankie barely recognised the coy - to her mind, simpering - behaviour of her sister. She didn't tell any of them about her passion for leadership or growing Newcrest into one of the great regions of England. Instead, she talked about the weather and the fascinating points made at the last church sermon.
Tumblr media
One evening, as Frankie and Maggie readied for bed, Frankie noticed that Maggie was more subdued than usual.
"What's wrong?"
Maggie took a minute to answer, "Lord George Grove proposed to me today."
Tumblr media
Frankie searched her mind, trying to remember which one Lord George Grove was - she hadn't bothered to learn their names, instead giving them little nicknames for her to remember. "Blondie?"
Maggie shot Frankie a warning look.
"But you only met him a few days ago!"
"And? We have met a few times now and found each other suitable: he comes from a good, wealthy family of high status, yet not quite as high or as wealthy as ours. His traits are 'good' and 'family-oriented'. We are a similar age. His aspiration is 'soulmate'. He is handsome. His family follow the Pure Faith. Mama agreed that he is a very good choice."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Frankie shook her head, "'Well, doesn't that sound romantic! Who needs poetry and love when you can have a 'high-but-not-as-high-as-mine-status'?"
"The purpose of this courting process wasn't romance, it was marriage," said Maggie. Her voice sounded flat, as if her answers were what she knew the answer should be rather than what she was really feeling.
"So, did you say yes?"
"Of course I did."
Tumblr media
Frankie groaned.
"I wish you would stop doing that," said Maggie quietly.
"Doing what?" asked Frankie, indignant.
"Mocking and judging everything I say and do as being foolish," replied Maggie, tearful. "You just don't understand. I am making all the right decisions as a Lady of Newcrest while you are just a hypocrite. You roll your eyes and scoff, but you do as mama tells you. You follow the Pure Faith. You sit silently through all of my courting. When it is your turn, will you actually refuse mama? Or will you just talk about how stupid it all is to me, and then go ahead and do as mama tells you anyway?"
Tumblr media
Frankie tried to think of a retort to Maggie, but no words came.
"You're still behaving just like a child. When are you going to grow up?" spat Maggie, throwing the bed covers over herself and beginning to cry.

The thing about that Winter thing, just to remind, from her POV she killed James. The last she saw of him was was her making him explode. From her perspective she is the one who killed that guy. And she is not very Brocken up about it.
Its amusing because they give Adam more sympathy then this. Blake literally broke down sobbing after killing him and even the triumphant song they released had a note about how sad Adam's story was and how this boy lost his way being consumed by hate and spite.
It was not alot, but like...its more then they give Jimmy LOL.
Pretty sure I got this ask when we all thought Winter was writing on Ironwood's grave, but regardless...
Yeeeah.
Something I've been thinking about lately is how Ironwood is the one villain who is still irrevocably against Salem and how that should have made such a difference, but didn't. Even Adam, whose story-line became 99% about his abusive relationship with Blake, was working with Cinder earlier on who, in turn, was working for Salem. Every major villain in the show (that I can think of off the top of my head, anyway) did something to forward Salem's agenda: Cinder, Watts, Tyrian, Hazel, Emerald, Raven, Adam, Roman. That consistency means that although I might often side-eye the heroes' inability to forgive (or hypocritically forgive on a dime) it at least makes sense that they would look at someone like Lionheart, someone who was helping Salem end the world, and dismiss any goodness within them.
Ironwood, in contrast, was working against Salem up until the moment he died.
Did the writers give him a senseless, fucked-up means of moving against Salem via a 'just bomb civilians' plan? Yes and I'll forever side-eye that too. However, I think if the heroes should have forgiveness/sympathy/mixed feelings/an emotional reaction to any villain, it should be the one whose villains acts were all in the name of stopping their shared enemy. In debating the ethical and practical merits of Ironwood's plans, I think many fans have lost sight of the larger picture. He's trying to get the Relics away from Salem, keep their last army of huntsmen in reserve to fight Salem later, get at least one city of people safely away from Salem. No matter how messed up, no matter how misguided and OOC there wasn't a single thing Ironwood did that wasn't guided by his attempts to keep Salem from ending the world. In a better written show, that would have meant something. Even if we still had to get cartoon villain Ironwood, the characters would at least acknowledge that he (from the show's POV) did all the wrong things for the right reasons. Winter in particular was set up to be that nuanced insight, given his mentor-esque status and her unfailing faith in 99% of the choices Ironwood made. That the show would have her (from her POV) kill him and then just sneer at how she waited too long to do it is insane. Please write these characters humanely! Even if you come to hate someone for what they've done, years worth of love for them doesn't just up and disappear!! That's the one (1) snow scene moment RWBY got completely right: of course Ozpin is still going to care for Lionheart despite his betrayal.
For me, intent will always matter. It might not excuse everything (or anything at all), but it opens the door for forgiveness in a way that few other things will. Which is why the intent of other characters, in contrast, makes Ironwood's writing so much worse. You have Qrow teaming up with Tyrian because he refuses to go see Ironwood in handcuffs and Emerald who is "redeemed" because she was literally just standing beside Oscar post-realization that Cinder doesn't love her. The show says, "You're forgiven for being so stubborn you'll deliberately help kill your friend" and the characters say "You're forgiven for trying to end the world/destroying a school and then stopping out of selfish self-interest." But there's no "You're forgiven for taking extreme measures in a no-win scenario in an effort to salvage some hope against an immortal enemy." That's messed up to me! Especially given that Ironwood is (presumably) dead. If there's ever a time to let characters extend compassion in a way they may not be able to with the person still there and potentially still enacting wrong, it's when they've died for those heroic beliefs. Ironwood is the one villain who, methods aside, was 100% fighting the right battle and he's simultaneously the one villain that characters and story alike refuse to give even a smidge of sympathy for. Wild.

I'll probably post music I like. It's mostly upsetting mashups and ska. I'm sorry.
Professional ghostwriter/Professional editor; I write and edit romance novels
I write about people getting sad and fucking about it
I have OCs from my own independently published work that I might post about
Jey Uso stan. He's my ride or die. Babby child. He's always right and I got beef with anyone who goes up against him
Jey/Sami and Jey/Roman are my OTPs. I also ship Punk/Cena, Jimmy/Kevin, Hunter/Shawn, Hunter/Seth, any arrangement of the Shield, and early Sami/Kevin
My mom once said I treat boys like kittens and no one has ever called me out so brutally before or since

I don't have access to live episodes, and my work schedule ebbs and flows. I'm pretty much always late watching stuff
The only people I truly loathe at WWE are Cody and Riddle (WWE stop hiring rapists 2k23 challenge). I'm also not a fan of most wrestling until the mid-'00s (mid-'10s for women's wrestling). I try really hard not to tag anything negative without tagging it! I'll always tag hate with wwe wank
I don't like AEW's more '90s-inspired approach to wrestling, though I do really like a lot of the people over there (former WWE talent and homegrown talent alike! I love Orange Cassidy and Danhausen). If I complain about it, I'll tag it with aew wank
My feelings about CM Punk are complicated. I love CM Punk, but Phil Brookes is a hypocritical, performative bitch who talks a big game while refusing to actually do anything meaningful
I don't really care about wins and losses in wrestling beyond story implications. As long as I find a potential storyline interesting, I'm into it. I'm also very good at reading too much into things

The anon with why cant they shut up about ironwood. I have to say, honest to god, i think they need a character that people are excited about but oppose the girls so they can dunk on that character and the fans, cause they are insecure about their writing (especially regarding morally grey characters) and feel threatened by the popularity of said character. I was here since the trailers (thats why i still keep up with rwde cause i am curious about this train wreck) and people were really excited after the black trailer to see adam at the end of v2 and then in v3. The same thing with ironwood, folks were excited to see him again in v4 and then in v8! More then they were excited to see what team rwby is up to. And thats a big no no. For me this cartoonish villain turn was the writers saying: you are enjoying the media we created wrong! So now we make sure you cant enjoy it your way.
Also the other villains are way to underdeveloped or one dimensional to be good dunking material. But thats only my opinion.
Unfortunately that is very true. The behavior comes from a place on some level of them realizing the writing is subpar but not wanting to accept that because if they like something that is bad that makes them bad, which is not how this works but its how they think it works which is an issue.
It's an unfortunate symptom of the bad writing the show has. The mains are not well written characters, so people latch onto characters that actually are well written but fans don't like that because we're supposed to like the mains and follow the mains story and they're supposed to be our favorites but they're not well written, they're hypocritical and sometimes even cruel to people who need their help the most.
I would also have to agree that the writers are very self conscious and are trying to convince people they are good writers without putting in the work to improve their craft and punishing people who do not consume the show the way they have decided it should be. A good writer wouldn't have these issues but they're not good writers largely because they refuse to accept criticism and learn from their mistakes.
Back to James, he was accidentally written better then the mains and infuriatingly rather then embrace the well rounded character they threw a fit and threw him in the trash so they could delude themselves into thinking they're good writers and its so odd to me. Theirs nothing wrong with having interesting background characters, it makes your story richer and feel more alive. The issue is the writers threw out what made the mains fun and interesting and are surprised the fans are annoyed and latch onto a character that was still at the time well written.
Unfortunately most characters in the show have become boring and poorly written. The really fun characters are few and far between and even then some of the fun characters as you said are one dimensional like Tyrian or are now dead like Watts and Roman. I also cannot ignore the fact that since they're woman the fndm thinks they cannot be dunked on or criticized because that would be sexist not realizing that by refusing to allow woman to make mistakes and be held accountable for them you are being sexist.
The fndm is a train wreck that won't stop and it just so damn unhealthy.

Rabbit aka PhonyMangaka Debunks Hbomberguy’s “RWBY is Disappointing Video” and explains why the Critics are wrong about RWBY.  Part 2 of 2
Insert Monty Fight Here Spends a bit talking about how the animation and the writing of the show is set up between Monty, Miles, and Kerry.
Kind of hard to tell if he likes the general idea of it, because he's using an example of Ruby vs Roman and the Club thugs.
Seems positive
Alright so a problem he listed out was how disjointed the scene of the two teams getting the relics and "Running to live another day towards the cliffs"
But it just cuts to another fight were the teams have to engage with the Deathstalker and Nevermore.
And he got it very wrong
He claims it doesnt connect, but Ruby clearly says "make it back to the cliffs" and you can obviously see that's what they're going to do.
It's the deathstalker and the nevermore that are clearly chasing them that they are forced to fight. Just didnt pay attention?
"Character arcs tend to start and stop...  Weiss was annoyed at Ruby being made a leader...  During the test Weiss said she was going to be nicer."
I do agree with this somewhat.
The Weiss racism plot was mostly offscreen, and I would have liked for the friction between Ruby and Weiss to have lasted an extra episode, but I'm not too hung up on it.
However, this reading can be a bit surface level.
Yes, Weiss agreed to be nicer to Ruby however that was done bc SHE thought she'd be made leader bc she believes she is better than Ruby both bc of her age and her status as the heiress of the SDC.
So no, it makes perfect sense why she's annoyed, it's just dishonest of you to really paint that picture when all it takes is just watching episodes that aren't even 15 minutes long.
And another thing is. It's not that Prof Port told- her to just "stop it" as he puts it.
He basically dresses her down and shows her how childish and unreasonable she is.
Weiss does let her feeling's and headstrong way of thinking get in the way of her, but it's not like she WOULDN'T reconsider her ideals/values. This is the same- person that was okay with Blake being a former terrorist in the end despite the things that the White Fang did to her family and her social life growing up.
"All Weiss needed was a man in a position of authority to tell her off"
If Glynda did the same, the same thing happens??
Like yeah...
This is the same person that wanted to call the police and trusts them to do their jobs, of course Weiss listens to authorities and values their opinions moreso over her peers.
"Her character arc is about her dealing with her abusive and controlling father so it- comes across as gross that they would let this happen."
.......................
Are you seriously comparing Professor Port to her Father??
Is that what we're doing?
That makes literally 0 sense lol?
Miles and Kerry talk about how they view RWBY as cool kids and not just female- mcs.
And the reason why he brings up those clips is to basically... idk call them a hypocrite because they made jokes about Yang?
He mentions the time Miles tweeted the Yang vs Tifa fight and says "My money's on the hot one" and also Kerry saying "Yang is the happy joyful on  Everything you want in a girl."
So basically using those two instances were they
1. Promote a Deathbattle video so they can get more views.
2. Have to explain who each character is on the team RWBY
Also please credit who you use for fact checking!
https://youtu.be/EmHM_0Mfe3g
That video was from  @NerdCaliber  from way back in 2013, not a bad interview and even if it was from way back then, i suggest giving it a like!
He now goes into Jaune and the Jaune arc. Which ok, once again I admit that a lot of people do have it's gripes with it. Gripes I can-
Very much understand.
If this volume was longer, and the episodes were too, I very much do believe that so many people wouldn't be so upset by it as they are.
The writing for Jaundice isn't bad either.
It's about a kid who gets bullied because he's weak but tries to deal with it on his own, despite the fact that he very much DOES need help.
We get to see his struggles and with the pep talk from Ruby and with him ACTUALLY standing up for himself in the end, it isn't as simple as "kill a monster that's threatening the bully and that's how you solve it"
As hbomberguy puts it.
It's
"You have to find the inner strength within yourself to stop being a doormat and stand your ground."
Jaune stands his ground, he gains that confidence, and he tells Cardin to never mess with his friends ever again.
He was determined and the facial expressions really hammered home to Cardin that Jaune isn't going to fold to him or his team anymore.
For the last time, I agree that it's weird to put it in the middle of an already short volume with very small run time.
Honestly RWBY SHOULD have had more to do in this Volume-
That I think could have been spent with Weiss's racism and her preconceived notions about the White Fang and those in it as well as just Faunus in general be explored in seeing how she deals with it.
That WOULD have been better and I admit to that fully.
"Penny and Sun just appear... Nothing you could have cut to establish these characters."
Tbcf, Their introduction is fine.
Sun hopping off of a boat that he illegally boarded?
Just Sun things.
Penny getting knocked over for standing in the middle of an alleyway?
Just Penny things
Like he said. it's the last two episodes.
They can be built upon more in the next few volumes.
It's like saying "Why is Cinder, Emerald, and Mercury are in the last episode.
Surely you couldn't have cut an episode or two to introduce them" those are ACTUAL side characters.
JNPR actually has importance over any of the tertiary cast.
Says things I agree with, like production being disjointed.
Don't really agree with the sentiment that the show isn't cohesive.
If anything, I feel like the volume is just too short. If CRWBY were to redo it today Most of the complaints would be nonexistent, obviously of course.
But that's what happens when you have more than when you first started out with.
"Lets not assume this is author self insert wish fulfillment... It's just really weird you picked Neptune... gets into love-triangles with female characters that you write... Just feels weird."
Like... Just say you think it's author self insert wish fulfillment.
That's obviously the picture you're painting.
You're literally not doing ANY amount of nuance to even dictate that you think differently.
The pussyfooting is just lame.
Like also implying Kerry is a creep because "Neptune hangs out with Yang" going back to that old interview were he calls Yang "anything everybody would want in a girl" with then a cut of him saying "she's 17".
Bro just stand your ground and call him a creep.
Because that's LITERALLY what you're trying to get at, at worse or Calling in his behavior as questionable at best.
Both of which, is so demented.
Considering it was Monty (the guy you're dedicating this video too btw) told them which character they'd voice.
Raises points about naturalistic exposition in regards to the prom and how it's all about prom (ignoring the B plot with Yang and Blake too I might add).
Major complaint though is that he feels like there's no plot going on... Which is the actual point?
The "plot" is being halted because Yang basically getting Blake to stop overextending herself with the White Fang and to chill out.
They're still KIDS, much like how Ozpin told Glynda.
They can have a moment where they're embroiled in small scale drama of love triangles and prom.
Besides, the end of the episode is still a thing, where the CCT is broken into and Ruby discovers a certain shadowy figure in that room.
Things are still happening.
The prom was a great excuse for the protagonists to chill for ONE night before a mission and the antagoinsts-  to do some dastardly devious machinations.
Claims Ruby fell into the plot, ie Mount Glenn, but also conveniently ignoring the worldbuilding (the same thing he harps on about earlier in the video) that explains Elder Grimm and what happened to the people of the settlement.
And the narrative reasons is that it's an old decrepit settlement, so of course their would be sinkholes.
Though, it's moreso a flimsy defense so yeah I could see why he wouldn't like how that happens.
But it also bugs me that he never mentions what happens BEFORE Ruby fell.
I don't really see the need to really complain about "it has a working rail system?!?!?!"
I mean yeah?
We don't know how long they've been planning this sort of invasion, but with all the material they gathered and the helping hands around them.
It's not farfetched to think- They could get it working.
Especially since the railroads weren't really messed up.
It's just, a nothing complaint imo.
And it definitely is organic??
Like what's more natural than
"Hey uh theres a bunch of terrorists and Roman Torchwick getting on a train leading to Who knows where. How about we board it and try to stop them?"
I mean that's a pretty damn good reason to get on the train.
One thing I can say about hbomberguy.
He will praise the ever living fuck out of Monty and Shane's animation.
(deserved mind you).
But will leave no room- for Miles and Kerry to even BREATHE.
This man has his foot on both of their necks and just keeps applying pressure like, damn dude
"It's objectively an awful song."
YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH THERE WILL BE NO CAFFEINE SLANDER AT ALL YOU VILE BEING!!
IT'S ONE OF THE BEST RWBY TRACKS AND I WILL NOT STAND FOR YOUR NEEDLESS MUDSLINGING!!!!!!
Also, if we REALLY wanna talk about side casts...
CFVY, depsite how fucking cool they are, are the literal definition of a side cast.
They came in, kicked ass and took names like fucking bosses.
They didn't need a whole biography before they came and what is it with people- mainly critics and youtubers, who believe every single person in the universe needs whole entire episodes and dialogues to understand every single character in existence.
Like damn maybe we should give Tock a backstory too
"Who is this guy, what are his-"
Bruh it's not THAT deep
"That's the story????"
Huh???
The... The story is that they "stopped" whatever plans that the White Fang and Roman have cooked up.
Like, this is all a set up for the end of Volume 3 where the complaints you're bringing up DO have consequences.
Because of the Grimm invasion- Atlas is allowed to bring in it's robots and even more of it's warships...
Know what happens next???
Exactly.
It's bread crumbs.
A domino effect.
Where things are leading up to the bigger picture.
"There is no build up for Velvet to put away her weapon at Coco's request bc-we haven't seen it".
No it's to keep the audience in suspense/garnering hype to what exactly Velvet's weapon could be. It's not supposed to be revealed just yet, but later on in the story.
It wasn't meant to be a joke or a play on OF a joke.
It's just a story beat/reveal.
"It doesn't feel right to speculate."
But spends a minute and a half speculating that Coco and Velvet were supposed to have bigger roles in the story because of how long and how much effort it took to rig her and fan submissions too.
Uhhh... Maybe that's just... How rigging- goes???
I'm pretty sure there were efforts similar that went into RWBY, JNPR, Sun and Neptune, Neo, etc.
Not everything has to be this big/large grandiose purpose you're trying to place on these characters.
And even if they were, ideas and plotlines DO get scrapped many times   Through production, either because it doesn't fit, or because they wanted to do something else entirely.
But this is ALL speculation.  You and me both are doing that.
He ends off this segment by saying that this was all production and execution angle and how the fights are great and everything else sucks and how it's mismanaged and poorly connected.
Even though I've gone through his "connections" and just found that he wasnt paying attention to most of the scenes and the dialouges is both funny and frustrating.
"Two full seasons of teething problems" yeah that's true.
I mean yeah lol, not gonna fight that there.
Are... We really comparing this too Jojo's??
Oh.. We are?? Aight then
And now we're comparing it to Cowboy Bebop.
just about the first robbery scene and characterization and things like that...
But... Have you ever considered that... maybe, just maybe, they were doing two different scene. If you're going to sit here and try to rag on- RWBY for "not understanding how the robbery scene works."
Then that sort of point can be used across every single piece of media that has a robbery scene in it. And even then you still were able to get basic things out of her "it's not much" and??
You still have about, 9-   volumes worth of content to get to know more about her.
"It's all coincidence driven story."
There isn't just one way to write a story bomber. literally, if you want to watch Cowboy Bebop so much then go rewatch it.
These shows set out two different types of vibes.
Not- Everything is 1 to 1. Just a lot of nitpicks mainly.
Nothing really substantial is said here besides just ranting about Ruby's lack of characterization. Blank Slate, making a stab at her for liking books.
Like, I dunno man, it's just cumbersome at this point.
So remember when I said it's going to be a 2 parter. I lied.
I only got through 27 minutes today and I'm already tired of this video.
SO part 3 tomorrow and that should be the end.
Goodnight Night City!!

Monroe boys headcanons, with some canon facts to have all my thoughts about them in one place:
Trent: born in 2008; green-eyed and has Gerald’s curly hair; Linda’s least favourite; is learning her arrogance, intimidating charisma, boldness, ruthlessness, cynicism, ambition and desperate need for validation, which is exactly why she doesn’t like him, their relationship similar to her and Roman’s relationship when she was younger; easily bored; the worst-behaved at home; popular at school through fear and force of personality; resents all his brothers for having more of their mother’s favour than him, River most of all, whose ‘weakness’ he despises because it reminds him of the parts of himself he’s determined to extinguish; acts like an angel in front of and sucks up to adults besides his parents, partly out of pragmatism, partly out of hunger for approval that he refuses to seek from his ‘inferior’ fellow kids; skilled at tennis, badminton and archery: favourite colour is red
Seaton: born in 2009; not Gerald’s; brown-eyed; follows Trent’s lead and emulates him, having always been in his shadow; his submissiveness in that context belies a more patient, scheming, manipulative, vindictive cruel streak of his own that he saves for personal vendettas and small-scale harassment used as an outlet for his anger and dissatisfaction, happy to leave the bigger picture dominance to Trent and turn being underestimated in comparison into an advantage; the best at effective verbal abuse; prides himself on his social and strategic cleverness and envies Jordan’s academic and intellectual intelligence; secretly ashamed that he doesn’t do quite as well in his classes and feels the need to cheat to try to get perfect grades and make his parents proud; loves animals, especially horses, foxes and dogs, does horse riding and really wants a pet dog (Roman keeps trying to get him into pigs, to no avail); favourite colour is purple
Jordan: born in 2011; not Gerald’s; blue-eyed; the closest to Gerald, often found talking to him about plastic surgery; interested in science, mathematics, fashion and cosmetics; very intelligent and an excellent student, hence Linda’s second favourite; quiet, withdrawn and reflective, has learned to internalize his feelings to not inconvenience his parents and lose their love; the second most ambitious after Trent, but channels it into academic pursuits; joins his older brothers in bullying River only because they’ll turn on him otherwise for his sensitive and nerdy sides, and sometimes do anyway when River isn’t around; however, lacks internal malice (‘strength’ in his family) and is self-aware of this supposed deficit, so keeps himself useful to Trent and Seaton by giving them backup and ideas to be powerful and respected and torment people that he, at least independently, would never have the heart to act on; favourite colour is blue
River: born in 2014; brown-eyed; Linda’s favourite; kind and open thanks to his guileless innocence and being the happiest; the only one with genuine friends; though also spoiled and can be unthinkingly, accidentally insensitive to others’ feelings; creative and imaginative; loves cartoons, musicals and art, his drawings actually talented for his age and all over the Monroes’ fridge; favourite colour is green
In conclusion, they all need therapy and a healthy home environment. A theme with the older three, the eldest two most of all, is that they’ve been led to believe that love is fundamentally conditional. So River being showered in it when he ‘hasn’t done anything’ feels infuriatingly unjust and hypocritical of their parents. Somebody direct Duke Keane to the Monroes. Linda and Gerald may love each other, but they clearly aren’t good parents. I hope in one of the infinite timelines this family has a serious intervention and the boys get to grow up with good role models. They’re kids, guys, they deserve the chance to change.
And yes, Seaton is in Tim’s class (they hate each other).

Day 5 of reading Beatles RPF
On our way back home by Kathleenishereagain || 5/56
Reading a chapter while my laundry gets dried (and hoping the dryer actually works today XD)
Though, first things first, I feel I should mention that thanks to @indiekidsupremacist and @the-bluebird-you-need, I now know that not only is there one Beatles movie, but multiple! I think I'll need to put time aside to watch them at some point. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. When reading Beatles fanfiction, watch Beatles movies. For research purposes. Obviously.
In the meantime, I did think of something else I could do. A few songs have been mentioned in the fic so far, and it seems a little silly to go on like this without listening to their music. How can you understand why people are fans of a band without hearing what the band's most known for? So, I picked the first one the fic brought up, "I Feel Fine".
youtube
This was so fun. The song itself is great (and catchy. Yeah, that's going to be stuck in my head for a week.) And at one point in the music video, one of them (the comments say it's Ringo) just?? gets on a bike?? and stays on it the rest of the song?????? Brilliant, fantastic, no notes.
Anyway, we're here for fic, and I absolutely have to share this passage that made me look away from my phone for a minute and just absorb it.
He did not have anything to tell him that he actually could say, anyway. Sorry I was an absolute wanker to you. Sorry I didn’t try to talk to you sooner. That I didn’t make more effort to patch things up between us. Sorry you died. I miss you. I have missed you for almost 40 years and I will never stop missing you. Seeing you so young and clueless is more painful than you could ever imagine. Talking to you makes me want to scream. It makes my head turn with happy fireworks and my belly burn with grief. He could not say any of that.
Just. Holy shit. That struck hard and fast, and the rest of the chapter didn't pull any punches either. I'm a huge fan of time travel related angst, so it's like this was tailor-made for me. With every chapter, I'm drawn more and more in.
(I think I mentioned before that I started this blog on a whim, half-joking. Not disrespectful, I should hope, as I didn't want to come into a fandom I'm not a part of and make a mockery of someone's hard work. I'm genuine in my desire to experience this and understand what draws people to it (and I suspect, will become a fan myself in time), but I won't lie and say I didn't come into this with preconceived biases about RPF. Which, to be honest, was a little hypocritical of me. Don't laugh, but my side projects are mostly Supernatural fanfiction, and I can see how easily someone might approach that with the same feelings I did this, whereas I, on the inside and putting my heart into it, take it very seriously. So, solidarity there, I think. We are all weird guys on the internet writing heartfelt love letters to things that matter to us.)
It's still fascinating to me getting little crumbs of knowledge, some of them devastating, chapter by chapter. I expect someone fully immersed in the history of the band and each member would take these in stride, facts they already know well, but some of them really throw me for a loop. The one this chapter was a mention that Paul didn't go to his father's funeral, or couldn't go. It wasn't specified why, and it's a drop in the bucket of this chapter, but it stuck in my mind nonetheless.
Oh, and I have a solid grasp of the distance between London and Liverpool now. The fic said a trip between the two would take about four hours by car, and Google provided me the helpful number of 354 kilometers. (Or, in American, for me, 220 miles.) That's further than the distance I used to go to visit my Grandpa in Mississippi.

What are your political/life views? I just found your blog, you have so many varying ( yet valid) opinions
uduekzkskejejaldkz I am not a political person (I don't even vote lol) but I beefed with so many people who got so confused by my position because it's impossible to fit me in a box. I know some people are genuinely confused at me not being conservative. Or me orbiting around radfem...while being prolife. I may be Christian, but I'll NEVER be the token Black woman/Christian Candace Owens (lol) (though homegirl can have very stupid views i.e jumping on the Tate white knight bandwagon). Some White Christians are veeeeery transparent with their (cultural, racial) bias and I don't mess with them. I am actually very pro Black (pro Black WOMEN - I am very into "corrective promotion of Black women" Black feminity, hypergamy, etc.) but some Black people might dislike me bc I loathe rap culture, call out the one drop rule and Black women obsession with wearing Asian women hair... 🤫
I think the blueprint behind my mindset is that I am a VERY logical person.. I hate double standards and hypocrisy. I can respect a standpoint totally opposed to mine as long as it's consistent.
Some of my milestones 😹
💥 I beefed with Christians hypocrites seething on homosexuals while being spiritual adulterers themselves (watching witchy shows)
💥 I beefed with Calvinist for saying Once Saved Always Saved wasn't biblical 👀 when I came out as a Christian I called out a big/popular Christian/Calvinist blogger (I didn't realize how popular she was when I called her out lmao) and she freaked out and deactivated and all of followers went off at me lmaooo even today IDK what triggered her to react this way... I think she was mentally ill :/ (?) She came back though but blocked me. If it helps her feeling safer her I'm fine with that tbh. Then a pro OSAS/Calvinist Christian YouTuber challenged me (several times) to a d-d-d-duel but I said "lmao. No." The idea of a Calvinist Christian YouTuber having a one-sided beef with me cracks me up tbh lmao #papirougeexposed 👀
💥 I beefed with Cath trad nv crusaders for making fun of colonialism & slavery à la "it just taught these savages how to behave 😈" while being shook when people look up Communism (bc their grandpa died in a gulag or whatever). So it's ok to make fun of entire countries/civilizations being genocided and enslaved from centuries...but looking up a dead regime that made your family suffer soooooo baaaad is somehow morally corrupt? just choke already - and props to Stalin for keeping your ancestors on check considering how ugly their offspring turned out to be.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ see how bad it sounds? now WHY do those ghouls feel comfortable doing so for non Whites/non-Europeans? I HATE these demons.
💥 I regularly beef with pro gun Christians because gun culture is from the devil and unbiblical
💥 I regularly beef with radfem because they hate that I'm pro life (but otherwise love my takes which makes them ever more mad LOL)
💥 I beefed with (Christian) libertarians because they're stupid 🤷🏾‍♀️ Also you can't hate against governments authority (or simply existing) while being Christian. Governments are from God. Their dedication to act like Romans 13 didn't exist is hysterical.
💥 I beefed with kpop stans for saying kpop guys are ugly and were sending people to hell lmao

Tbh I think maybe the infantilizing of Roman is part of why I'm having trouble with the trans girl HC even though I support it conceptually, because it does feel like kind of a weird uncomfortable caricature just in the way I see some people writing about it. Idk if it's just me being a hypocrite or having shitty bias, but I think I just always find grown women acting like babies off-putting even if it does make sense for the character.
nah... i kinda get what you mean like, if tgirl roro wasn't too sexually repressed then she probably would be into ddlg or baby talk, and if she was as sexually repressed as she is in canon then she would still be very immature and probably model herself after a marilyn monroe character.
Roman does get infantilized by the fandom, but it's also something he does himself which is why his form of arrested development is so disturbing to me, like he does not act like shiv's older brother at all, which is why the fandom pretends that he is either younger than her or the same age as her, which is lame and also an easy way to admit that you're fave's canonical behavior towards his little sister weirds you out too much lol.
The only time roman actually acts like a normal big brother towards shiv during the entire series is, when he protects her from ken in the finale and that is more about ken losing his mind and physically charging at his pregnant sister in the first place.
Honestly, roman very much wants to be the baby of the family and is mentally stuck at 15, so tgirl roman would be similar and forever be a 15 year old girl.
I do get where you're coming from and no you're not biased for being uncomfortable with grown women acting like little girls because it makes me sick too.

Small but MIGHTY
By now, we all know these reviews have spoilers....DUH! But also, they're my own thoughts - so please watch the films and come to your own conclusions. Go to the cinema! Support indie films! I love big box office hits just like the rest of them, but boy - the indie filmmakers need our support. Movies will slowly be regurgitated nonsense with AI and Marvel/Disney hits if we don't show up to support.
I say all this, but this film is produced by big names like Cillian Murphy, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck, so what a hypocrite am I? I guess this story is what really moved me to stand on that hill. It's truly beautiful. Before we get into it here's the COLD hard facts: Title: Small Things Like These Director: Tim Mielants Writer: Enda Walsh (Screenplay), Claire Keegan (Book Author) Rating: 7/10
Set in 1985 in Ireland, we follow the story of a devoted father Bill Furlong. He seems to be a kind, caring, and compassionate man, but we discover that these traits have plagued him his whole life. As Bill is working the start of winter delivering coal to the local convent he stumbles upon disturbing secrets - the young ladies brought there to bare their bastard children are in fact being abused and their children ripped away from them. Does he do something about it or turn a side eye just like the rest of the town?
As Bill wrestles with this decision, it's bringing up stories from this past that you don't really understand until the end of the movie. His mother was just like one of those young women but instead of a convent, a woman with a large estate took them in and kept her on as staff. We follow his story as a child with the use of flashbacks, but instead of the audience being apart his life like most filmmakers would have us be, Tim Mielants kept us as mere observers. We see that Bill's mother was young and just providing for her son in the best way she possibly could. For example, all he wanted for Christmas was a jigsaw puzzle, but instead got a heating pad. We feel disappointed for not only Billy, but his mother. When it flashes back to current day Bill we realize that he's given everything up to be the good caring father and husband. If it weren't for the kind woman that took them in, he would have been just like the babies in the convent.
One evening, Bill is kept up by the abuse he thinks he saw at the convent, so he decides to make an early delivery. As he drops the coal off to the convent, he discovers that they've locked one of the pregnant girls in the coal room outside to freeze. Later the "Mother" Nun very discreetly buys his silence with money for Christmas. Bill is torn! He even goes to his local bar, and the bartender tells him to turn the other cheek, but he just can't. As he remembers his mother, and the kindness of the people who've raised him, he can't just sit idly by. He walks all the way to the convent and saves the same girl from literally almost freezing to death - regardless of the outcome it may have on the future of his family.
Unfortunately, these stories are all too true of the "women and children who suffered time in Ireland's Magdalen laundries" — horrific asylums run by Roman Catholic institutions for most of the 20th century, ostensibly to reform 'fallen young women'" "https://www.npr.org/2021/12/22/1065780684/claire-keegan-book-small-things-like-these-magdalene-laundries"
Technically, the use of colors, costuming, shots truly made you feel like you were there. It was freezing in the film, and by the time you leave the movie you may end up being cold as well. As far as the acting, something beautiful I'm just realizing is that we see Bill (Cillian) so distraught by this decision to go against the grain, that is physically weighing him down, his neck and face never seem to sit up straight (I wanted to lift his head up for him and rub is neck. Shit, my neck even started hurting). That is...until he follows what he knows to be true. The moment he decides to stand up for the weak, the strength in his body comes and he stands straight with a spark in his eye and smile on his face. I'm not sure if it's due to editing or a conscience choice from Mr. Murphy, but it was truly beautiful to feel that peace settle upon him. Wow just wow.
The only ding I might give this movie is that it was slow, and so riddled with tensions, that you desperately wanted a big crescendo and none came. Even with the lack of excitement, you leave the theater feeling like you've watched something of worth. To leave a theater thinking about it long after means it was art. You feel like your mind and soul just went through a carwash and was given the sustenance you need to keep going. (IMDB)
Please, if you've taken the time to read through this, go watch the movie! Stories like this are so important to be told.
Anyyyywhooo, that's all she wrote! Definitely recommend this film!
Cheers!
