Reading a chapter while my laundry gets dried (and hoping the dryer actually works today XD)

Though, first things first, I feel I should mention that thanks to @indiekidsupremacist and @the-bluebird-you-need, I now know that not only is there one Beatles movie, but multiple! I think I'll need to put time aside to watch them at some point. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. When reading Beatles fanfiction, watch Beatles movies. For research purposes. Obviously.

In the meantime, I did think of something else I could do. A few songs have been mentioned in the fic so far, and it seems a little silly to go on like this without listening to their music. How can you understand why people are fans of a band without hearing what the band's most known for? So, I picked the first one the fic brought up, "I Feel Fine".

This was so fun. The song itself is great (and catchy. Yeah, that's going to be stuck in my head for a week.) And at one point in the music video, one of them (the comments say it's Ringo) just?? gets on a bike?? and stays on it the rest of the song?????? Brilliant, fantastic, no notes.

Anyway, we're here for fic, and I absolutely have to share this passage that made me look away from my phone for a minute and just absorb it.

He did not have anything to tell him that he actually could say, anyway. Sorry I was an absolute wanker to you. Sorry I didn’t try to talk to you sooner. That I didn’t make more effort to patch things up between us. Sorry you died. I miss you. I have missed you for almost 40 years and I will never stop missing you. Seeing you so young and clueless is more painful than you could ever imagine. Talking to you makes me want to scream. It makes my head turn with happy fireworks and my belly burn with grief. He could not say any of that.

Just. Holy shit. That struck hard and fast, and the rest of the chapter didn't pull any punches either. I'm a huge fan of time travel related angst, so it's like this was tailor-made for me. With every chapter, I'm drawn more and more in.

(I think I mentioned before that I started this blog on a whim, half-joking. Not disrespectful, I should hope, as I didn't want to come into a fandom I'm not a part of and make a mockery of someone's hard work. I'm genuine in my desire to experience this and understand what draws people to it (and I suspect, will become a fan myself in time), but I won't lie and say I didn't come into this with preconceived biases about RPF. Which, to be honest, was a little hypocritical of me. Don't laugh, but my side projects are mostly Supernatural fanfiction, and I can see how easily someone might approach that with the same feelings I did this, whereas I, on the inside and putting my heart into it, take it very seriously. So, solidarity there, I think. We are all weird guys on the internet writing heartfelt love letters to things that matter to us.)

It's still fascinating to me getting little crumbs of knowledge, some of them devastating, chapter by chapter. I expect someone fully immersed in the history of the band and each member would take these in stride, facts they already know well, but some of them really throw me for a loop. The one this chapter was a mention that Paul didn't go to his father's funeral, or couldn't go. It wasn't specified why, and it's a drop in the bucket of this chapter, but it stuck in my mind nonetheless.

Oh, and I have a solid grasp of the distance between London and Liverpool now. The fic said a trip between the two would take about four hours by car, and Google provided me the helpful number of 354 kilometers. (Or, in American, for me, 220 miles.) That's further than the distance I used to go to visit my Grandpa in Mississippi.

RELIGIONVERSE: set in 1950s new york city following an angel named theodore who is very much not supposed to be on earth. other key characters are his wife (cecily) his weird priest situationship (elijah) god (deity) and luci (satan) ALSO I HAVE A GOOGLE DOC CHRONICLING MOST OF THE LORE THAT YOU CAN READ HERE

INDIE: weird loser named atticus stalks his partner from highschool (axel) because thats easier than addressing his deep-seated childhood trauma. other key characters are axels current girlfriend (mitchell) takes place from the time theyre in 7th grade (2012) to more or less present day (2022)

VARMINT: two twins named shad and shishka, following the long-term aftermath of their dad, damien, killing their mom, sam, and damiens subsequent outing as a prolific serial killer. and theyre also furries! ive had these characters since i was literally age 8 they are my oldest ocs and my dearest children. takes place in 2021

HOMETOWN USA: fucked up town where every resident is based on a song by tom lehrer. no real story just a bunch of guys existing. theyre going through world war III. set in a vague anachronistic alternate 1960s

Hello Millie forthlin! You’ve written some of the best Beatles fanfiction I’ve ever read, and I hope you don’t mind me asking for some advice. Do you have any tips on how to write Beatles dialogue accurately, specifically John? i wouldn't say that i have any real insightful tips on writing dialogue for these guys but i can tell you about how i approach it? i've always Struggled with their voices (especially john's!!) but i try to find written material & transcripts surrounding the era i'm writing. i can then check that i'm catching onto their slang, inflections, etc. ofc i recommend the beatlesbible and thepaulmccartneyproject for finding relevant material. and then watching any video content helps with filling in the holes of body language!!

as for john specifically, i'm just always trying to capture the million emotions he feels at any given second as well as the clever (and sometimes Not Clever) nonsense he spewed. he was quick funny replies and sometimes just saying random things!! he was reactive, and charming, and soooo funny <3 i think that remained true throughout his life. they were all always teasing each other, but i think john was best at it… and he was also best at cutting out any number of insults, too. in an argument, when he thinks he's got the upper hand, he'll say cruel things and laugh about it. when he feels vulnerable, he'll shout and say cruel things and double down on it, even if he doesn't mean it. (sighs. i love him. #johngirl)

overall, as for dialogue between any of them, i think it's important to remember their telepathy. not even just john and paul, all of the beatles just knew each other so well that they spoke in a language of both verbal and nonverbal cues, y'know? reviewing get back scenes (george leaves, johnpaul cafeteria convo, etc.) helps enormously with this as well because you really get a feel for the weird communication rituals going on between these guys. my beloved four-headed monster <3

 Been a Beatle fan longer than I haven’t, my Mother is the Beatle fan, her favorite has always been George, and really super-stans him.

 She has seen Paul in concert but I have never heard a Paul post- Beatle song before 2022! Or John – aside of Imagine and, Live and let die and them christmas songs.

 My favorite is John because even before I knew anything about the Beatles or who wrote or sang what I liked John led songs. I still do. Don’t think he’s better that the others. In my world they where better together and neither was really better than the sum. I know what he did, I know he is bad and all that. Guess what I don’t really care.

 I have a type in looks and john fit there. My Dad and brothers are the musicians in our family but Dad and is more a Elvis fan, (he + a brother died some many years ago but see it's Paul in me talking of them ) my brothers likes them too but they are more hard rock/metal fans. (in music I have the 70-80's metal genre ! the favourite band I Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. GEORGE usually gets my vote post-Beatle look as favorite looking Beatle, old man is RINGO!

 I grew up in the late 80/90’s when rock music started to really to go down and rap took over. "Harry Potter" was huge, It was nice to be part of something like that but then Rowling happend... I even had a short boy band period. Eminem was the biggest artist on the planet. I like 80’s and 90’s rap too. I pretty much like older music and a big fan of 80’s pop music too, Prince, Michael Jackson. I really love music and not just the Beatles along with some other artists and bands has more song that I like or has grown on me with time. I guess it’s true that older music was better.

I sort of feel a bit lonely with my Beatles  nobody around me IRL cares or think they’re overrated. I can agree that sometimes the beatles fandom can be a bit too much with the ”The Beatles did eveything first” and hate other acts who also was very important for music. Ofcourse it matters that the Beatles was white, ”sic” as most of the fanbase.  I have so many favorites and I love that I do.

McLennon is what really got me into the fandom. I’m straight myself but I’d never like want to fuck a 80 + year old man but I would be a Beatle groupie back in the days and don’t care which one I would do all of them. However I don’t really care what and if something happend between them I just see what i see, I hear what I hear. J+P are not straight

 I’m a mclennon thruther they where in love with each other! They where gay for each other. I don’t push Mclennon on anybody but here on Tumblr I do. I don’t think I believe eveything I read here is true, I also think many trolling this fandom and some seem to make fun it and comes off as a bit offensive to them as IRL queers. I can understand why Paul’s not coming out. I wouldn’t either in this or as part of the older fandom.

However I’m all for RPF, Yaoi, Yuri and femme the hell out of them. They do have that humour. Also they did all of it themselves, Iol, meaning if they didn't act this way we wouldn't be here. And I don't mean it as famous people they get a queer card.

I really am!  I’ll probably keep my existence here as a re-blogger  because Beatles fans aren’t always nice about "us nutcases here" ( but it's better here than on other forums) and too many trolls end up here on tumblr mclennon. all the Beatles have haters and super-stans. Both is just as bad in my opinion. I love them so much, all four of them so much I don’t really have a favorite in Beatles, JOHN still gets my vote I'm a John -girl but they are still so connected. I do like more John-Beatle-songs than by the others tho and was super gorgeous.  

McLennon is my secret sin. I can’t unsee it or explain in any other way. There's a hole missing in the Beatles history as much as in their lives (J+P but also George how he was "left out" tho Paul and him knew each other before. Wouldn't Paul be saying more insane stuff about him too?) things would fill the blanks with McLennon! How can people not see that is my biggest issue. But far too many still today would say like if you got kids, has a wife, has sex with girls, you can't be gay. Yes, they both married women. but Well.. It's mind-blowing. McLennon: Again!

I absolutly believe it was was real. They where in love. The end goodbye. Sex yes they had sex in many ways. But whatever, when how they did it or talked about it or kissed? I'm sure some of the answers is in fan fiction lol. Reality is worse than fiction. Lol. But sometimes  I don’t think they never thought it was a big deal, like it was part of a song to Paul or whatever, and John’s did something to do with glasses. Like that's not me, this is me look at me. No i don’t know but quite often I just think it’s exactly what they are saying and didn’t label it. Other times I think they knew perfectly well what they did and they made own words so only they would know. Now we have Paul's sane but !? version for 40 + years vs John's bat shit craze -like 6+ years. of course it gonna shape our version of them and what happend between them.

 I do think whatever happend in the end John left and walked out of it how, when, why again is another story. I honestly don’t think he ever was secure of anything in his life and Yoko didn't help. I can't or more like don't want to believe eveything that is written about her tho. But the way she looks at him in the beginning she did love him then and there. She has at least made good things too for the fandom, made hits herself, worked for peace and less guns etc.

Paul more like gave up. I don’t blame or think India caused it but it deffo did not help! But neither did think of themselves at least at that point that they would try to claim anyhing of course Paul wanted a family and John knew that. I don't really see how they could have "solved" in any other way. At that time.

I have more thoughts about it. Here's when my mind keep changing. Whos missed who the most? who's more depressed? Woah don't forget it also WAS and IS tough to leave friends and bandmates behind, please do include that. Not everthing is gay either! But I’m pretty sure more than we know knew about it or at least thought the same thing.

They where ALSO friends, brothers,close,bandmates and shared this magic connection with George and Ringo. Sometimes I believe they got jealous of each other’s closeness, especially post beatles and they did tried to re-create this with other people too and this is perhaps the most telling, besides quotes, interviews,pictures, videos and songs. Yeah many songs are about that and each other.

 I don’t push away the idea of other ships happening in the band or other male lovers but if it was only them, to either of them it may have add to some of the confusion. So I don’t hold that against it. Actually I don’t really care much about their lives or families outside of the Beatles. Lol. Neither of them.

My favorite Beatle girl is Cynthia. I just think she’s beautiful. And the only girl who didn’t marry a Beatle-Beatle. I don’t really think John would have stayed that long if he didn’t at some point love her. Or any of the other he "kept around but left behind".

Day 2 of reading Beatles RPF

I read this chapter while on my lunch break.

I'm realizing now that, given the length of this fic, a good portion of this blog is just going to be me reacting to this specific fic rather than a variety of Beatles fanfiction. This would probably bother me, except that A) this is a blog about Beatles yaoi and not a scientific experiment. (We weren't even approved by the board of ethics.) and B) I'm genuinely? invested? in this fic now?

I think a story about time travel was the best possible option for me to start with, because I am just as confused as Paul McCartney is as he journeys through his past life. Sure, he's got the names and some vague recollection, but I've got... uh. Well, I've been taking notes. I learned some new things this chapter.

First of all, remember how we know that John, the guy Paul will be doing the yaoi with in this fic, is dead? In the future, anyway. This chapter revealed to me that before his death, Paul and John got into some sort of blowout fight and only barely reconciled before John died. Now, this alone would probably have gotten me invested in this fic. I love time travel stories about regretting the life you never lived with someone, but at the same time, those hints being sprinkled throughout that going back in time doesn't get you them back, just a certain version of them. Is that enough? I don't think it would be for me, but what matters is, is it enough for Paul? He's still in denial he won't go back to 2019, so there's also that.

(Time is a strange thing here. This fic sends the Paul of 2019 back to 1965. As far as I can tell, Paul McCartney is still alive here in 2023 as well. And me, I was born in 2002, 40 odd years removed from the time this fic takes place. Paul's unfamiliarity with the past he must now live in gels well with my own.)

As a side note, the chapter ended focusing on Paul McCartney looking at himself in the mirror, amazed at his own youth, and I realized that I don't think I've ever really looked at a picture of any Beatles. There's a vague image of them in my head, but nothing concrete. Here is a picture of Paul McCartney I have just found, so that you may experience in real time what seeing his face is like with me.

I searched "been getting really into beatles yaoi" on google to try to find a post (dont ask me why i was on google for that) and now and then was one of the first results which is Okay but the fact it said "doesn't include: yaoi" and then asked me if the search had to include yaoi made me laugh.

are there any specific eras, moments, or dyamics you're drawn to within the beatles [canon????????] that you haven't tackled in fic yet? or do you begin with an idea and work in their history based on what fits the vibe?

not really. I usually write '66-'69 cause that's the bits wot i like. specific moments within those periods tend to come with the idea like: jpy threesome had to be at some point where things were not the best cause the whole premise of the prompt was john's attempt to fix things with paul, but i chose get back era specifically because it felt like the last point where things could be salvaged, and where paul would be willing to try literally anything to keep john happy. but also i don't really like doing research so i tend to stick with stuff i already know about, or keep it vague.

i find it quite boring to retread anything that we already have an account for, though, so i prefer to make up an in between moment then, say, write a fic about the i love yous at key west, or paris, or whatever.

in terms of dynamics, i'd love to write something for paul and george but i haven't found an idea yet that tickles me (except for anthology old man yaoi, which i'm sure i will get to at some point).

I've said this before but people think john is the crazy one but no. He just had a personality disorder or two and did too many hard drugs. Paul meanwhile. You'd need to invent a whole new branch of psychology to figure out what's wrong with him.....

and LORD okay take this all w the "I'm american" grain of salt but! depends on the era you're writing them in really imo! like any of them, when he's younger, pre-beatlemania and especially in liverpool/hamburg, his accent was thicker. ur gonna be out here googling slang words in 1960s liverpool. but to get a better idea of His voice specifically, a lot of those early interviews and ahdn are good, but also keep in mind he was sort of like. cleaning up his accent a little for the cameras. but it's lots of contractions, but focusing on cadence/wording is better, imo, than focusing on trying to write out the accent which can get grating to look at if you have an apostrophe every other word (but that's just me). lots of glottal stops happening

during/post-beatlemania it seems like he tried to clean up his accent. out of the 4 of them, imo, his accent is the Least strong. it's turned a bit more posh as he's aged (again if I'm mishearing any of this british people you guys do have the right to kill me with hammers) & watching some of his more recent interviews or later beatles interviews gives you a good idea of that! BUT this has the bonus of- you can always have more of the liverpool accent slip back in when he's upset/excited/particularly comfortable/etc etc

if u mean Content....... what I always keep in mind is just that paul is very diplomatic. he says what he thinks will keep the boat from being rocked, esp once they hit beatlemania. so it's always fun to have him sort of think through his words, think about what he Wants to say, go hm yeah can't say that in any dignified way without Consequences, and say something else that may even be contradicting his actions. on the other hand, though, he can be a bit of a dick. esp when him and john feed off each other. lots of early days stories of him encouraging john being an ass to people and being one himself. his asshole-ry comes in a sort of blunt flavor OR a very backhanded sort of bizarre flavor. like sending people postcards saying "obey your school master" and telling people they're not good vs his weird little "who knows, yoko!" type of comments when he's Trying to be diplomatic but still wants to kick shins. I always sort of view him as being kind of oblivious to how blunt & dickish he can come off 😭 great for writing scenes w him and george honestly. so it's fun to have him say or do smth that just. from the outside is sooo shitty but since ur in his pov he's literally just not even thinking about it
