kind of insane how bad my body has been craving exercise
#got cleared two days ago to start driving and easing back into my usual routine#so i went on a nice walk today. it was about 10-15 minutes or so of pushing myself and i was worried i’d get tuckered out and have to#go home. but by 20 minutes i was feeling myself and my body wanted more so bad and it felt so good to just be up and MOVING again#i could feel in my hips and lower back how much i missed it. i was tempted to break into a jog but held back because my stitches were#feeling a little sore. probably for the best. then i went home and stretched and did some planks. can’t wait to do push ups again 💪#i only really started getting into exercise a few months before my surgery and was worried i’d be right back at ground zero being fucking#miserable about it and burning out 5 minutes in. i’m happy that’s not the case. obviously i’ll still take it easy but AAAAA

Broken Bones
pairing: george russell x reader
summary: George gets in a wreck and you happen to be the surgeon on-call.
a/n: i loved this prompt, i hope you love it ❤️
masterlist
————————
George was enjoying his home race, he was holding P3 with a comfortable lead due to some great defending earlier in the race. Unfortunately for him, mother nature decided to put her hand into the race and have a pop up rain shower come through.
“It should clear through shortly, let’s keep with the softs,” his engineer says, hoping to outsmart those pitting for inters. George says a quick response and continues focusing on the track, especially the dry line. With the rain pouring, he catches a wet line in turn 4, sending the car spinning and into a barrier.
You rush down a couple floors to where you have been paged. Being the only orthopedic trauma surgeon in the hospital and on-call, you have to make haste.
“Is there really no one else to take this?” you ask, looking at the chart that has initial images and the patient information.
“Big fan?” the nurse beside you asks as you mentally plan the procedure. Most of Britain is basically a fan of the racing driver.
“Yeah. It’s not ethical, but I took an oath,” you tightly smile, beginning the process of scrubbing in.
“You are a great surgeon, you will have no problem keeping the fan part of you out of your mind,” the nurse reassures you. You take a couple deep breaths before heading to surgery.
The procedure goes well, you repair the broken wrist and fix the damage as best you can. Of course, time will finish healing it, but you do your best.
Afterwards you scrub out, finish paperwork, and go home. You won’t need to check in until anesthesia wears off, and that can take a while. You return later in the day, dressed in business casual and your lab coat.
“Mr. Russell, how are you feeling?” you ask, needing to check on your work. You close the door behind you when you enter the room.
“You are so pretty,” George says, still a little out of it.
“Thank you. Mind if I check your arm?” you ignore your blush.
“You look like my wife. She’s a doctor too, soooo pretty,” George babbles.
“I know, love, let me see your arm,” you say gently, sitting beside him.
“What happened?” George asks with a confused look.
“You spun out and crashed into a barrier. It was raining, you were on slicks, and caught a wet line,” you explain, carefully examining the surgical site, removing the splint immobilizing the wrist.
“I know that much. Injuries?” he asks, eyes trained on your wound examination.
“Broken wrist. We are going to brace it rather than cast it,” you check his chart for other injuries noted.
“Thank you for taking such good care of me, I love you,” George says, moving his non-injured hand to grab yours.
“I love you too, Georgie,” you whisper, rubbing your thumb over his hand as he processes everything. You note things in his chart, making sure your observations and updates are written down.
“I’m glad you did my surgery, I wouldn’t trust anyone else,” he smiles, you can’t help but smile back. It’s not illegal, but it certainly is borderline unethical to treat your husband.
“I’m happy to hear that. Why don’t I go and see if your family is out in the waiting room?”you hum, needing to stay inconspicuous. Of course, those close to you know who your husband is, but since you don’t share his last name it isn’t obvious.
“One kiss before you leave,” George pouts and you hesitate. “Please, I was just in a crash and your kisses make me feel better,” he pouts. You playfully roll your eyes and lean in, giving him a quick kiss.
“I love you, I’ll be right back,” you reassure him. You find his family and Toto waiting outside in the waiting room.
“Family of Mr. Russell,” you say, calling them to you.
“Y/n, dear, did you do his surgery?” George’s mom asks, a little hopeful.
“I did, I was the only one here and on call. Thankfully nothing too major, he can probably get back into a car in a month if we rehab him correctly. Want to see him?” you ask, knowing the answer. You lead them to his room, but stop Toto before he walks in.
“Y/n-“ Toto starts but you don’t hesitate to cut him off.
“You got very lucky that the broken wrist was the worst of it. Keeping him out on slicks? Are you stupid, a win is not worth more than a life,” you fume.
“I know, I gave his engineers and strategists a talking to. I just wanted to check in on him, but knowing he is in your care is all I needed. I check in tomorrow then,” Toto stays calm, knowing you had to since George was brought in and you needed to yell at someone.
“I, um, thank you. He should only be here another day for observation. I’ll keep you updated,” you recompose yourself and watch as Toto leaves.
“She’s just the best doctor ever. So pretty too, and smart, and really good at surgery,” you overhear George tell his parents, he likely just got another dose of pain meds.
“Thank you, Georgie. You are a pretty good patient,” you smile from the doorway.
“Can you believe that doctor loves me? And she married me?” George asks his mom who laughs.
“You chose a wonderful wife. Why don’t you let her get back to work?” his mom asks, catching your amused gaze.
“Yes, I have another surgery scheduled. I will check on you in a few hours,” you walk over to your husband, giving him a quick kiss.
“I love you so much, I want to have babies with you,” George blurts, causing your face to flame bright red.
“Okay, let’s talk about that later,” you awkwardly say, stepping out of the room.
You are quick to return after your scheduled surgery. You know the nurses rotations and know that they won’t check in for another hour.
“There’s my beautiful wife,” George grins as you walk in. “You look so sexy post-surgery,” he eyes you up.
“Really? I don’t feel like it,” you slide onto the bed beside him, careful to avoid hurting him. You relax in silence for a minute before you address the feeling eating at the pit of your stomach. “Please try not to crash again. I know it’s unavoidable, but the feeling I got when I saw your name and didn’t know how serious the crash was. It… I don’t think I can describe the panic,” you take a deep breath, closing your eyes and focusing on the sound of his heartbeat under you. The cool hospital air is a stark contrast to his warmth.
“I’m sorry, it’s the one part of racing I hate too,” George is unsure how to respond. He looks at the blank hospital wall, as if it’ll give him the answer. “I’ll always come home to you, and I have a badass surgeon to take care of me,” he laughs a little, trying to lighten the mood.
“I can only do so much, like brain surgery? You are on your own,” you grin, happy to let the vibe change.
“You could do it, you can do anything,” George says, he always gets gushy when he’s tired.
“Okay, baby, you should get some sleep. I’ll go home and get you clothes. I will be back tomorrow morning to check on you,” you yawn, also needing sleep. George knows you can’t stay in the room too long, and he wouldn’t want you to stay up in an uncomfortable chair.
“I love you. Drive safe,” he mumbles, tiredness washing over him in waves. You fix his sheets and make sure he is okay before kissing him goodnight and leaving. It feels weird, to go home and not have him there. You burn the rest of your anxious energy by reaching out to some good physical therapists that you know to help with George’s recovery.
Under your watchful eye, he makes a recovery similar to Lance’s, even with you fussing the first few races post-injury. You framed one of his x-rays. George had to listen to you talk about how beautiful it was, you claimed it to be your best work. It allows for a good story when having friends over, and it reminds George to not let it happen again.

number 20 alexia putellas teen reader????
I can do it
Alexia x little sister reader
summary: waking up from acl surgery and Alexia being there for you and taking care of you.
~~~
The bright afternoon sun filtered through the curtains, illuminating the small hospital room where you lay groggy and disoriented. It had been a mixture of sadness and pain since your ACL injury during an intense match against Real Madrid. You had felt your knee buckle as you tried to get around a defender and instantly knew you had the same injury your sister had just recovered from and that every footballer feared.
You were 21 and had been playing with the Barca first team since you were 16. Your mom, Eli, and Alba were out of town, leaving your older sister Alexia to take care of you. She was quiet and reserved, but also fiercely protective of you. Despite her usually stoic demeanor, you knew she cared deeply for you and would help with your recovery as best as she could, even if you knew she would be a little overbearing at times.
~~~
As you tried to blink and get your eyes to focus, the silhouette of Alexia came into view. She was sitting in a chair by your bedside, her hair down, wearing a barca sweatshirt. Her eyes showed a mixture of relief and concern.
“Hey, you’re awake,” she said, her voice soft trying not to startle you.
“Alexia?” you croaked, your throat dry. "water please."
"of course, of course, here use the straw," she said as she scrambled to find the cup of water the nurses left for you and held it steady as you took a few sips. The cool liquid soothed your throat, and you could see her visibly relax as you drank.
“How are you feeling?” she asked, her eyes searching yours for any signs of discomfort.
“Like my leg got ran over by a truck,” you said as you tried to chuckle but ended up coughing.
~~~
Over the next couple of days you stayed at Alexia's flat and she made it her mission that you didn't move an inch, even after the doctor told you to start walking on your crutches and start adding some more movement into your routine.
On the fifth night at her flat, you got up off the couch using your crutches and started walking to the kitchen to get a snack haven not eaten in couple hours.
Alexia was sitting at the table working on something on her computer, when she noticed you hobbling into the room.
"Hey, what are you doing. You should be resting. You could have called me I can get you anything you need. What were you getting water, food. Go sit down i'll get it for you," she rambled as she shot up walking over to you and trying to guide you back to the couch.
"Alexia if you try to make me sit one more time I will leave and go to Mapi and Ingrid's, the doctor told me to move around more and I am going crazy just sitting on the couch. I am just getting a snack and then I will go sit back down and put my leg up as the doctor instructed."
Alexia’s expression shifted, a hint of defensiveness creeping in. She knew how bad the injury could be mentally and knew you weren't actually mad at her. She also thought that she was doing the right thing and helping you by doing everything for you. “I’m just trying to help you, Y/n. You need to focus on healing, and I want to make sure you’re okay.”
“I get that, but it’s a bit much sometimes, I feel like I can't even stretch or you tell me I'm overdoing it,” you replied, frustration bubbling up. “I’m not a child, Alexia.”
Her face fell slightly, and she crossed her arms, hurt evident in her eyes. “I’m just trying to care for you the best way I know how.”
“Yeah, but can’t you see I need some normalcy? Just a little bit of independence?” you snapped, your voice sharper than intended.
“I’m sorry if I’m being overbearing,” she said quietly, standing up from her chair. “I’ll give you some space.”
“Wait—”
But she was already gone, the front door clicking shut behind her. You lay back down on the couch against the pillows, anger and guilt swirling inside you. You felt bad for snapping, but the feeling of being smothered was hard to shake. You wanted her support, but you also wanted to feel like yourself again.
After a about an hour of silence, the door creaked open, and Mapi stepped in, her warm smile lighting up the room. “Hey, how’s my favorite patient?” she asked, her cheerful tone cutting through the tension.
“Just dealing with miss overbearing again,” you admitted, attempting to keep your voice light.
She raised an eyebrow, clearly curious. “Alexia being too protective again?”
“More like too much of everything,” you sighed, sinking deeper into the pillows. “I know she means well, but it’s like she thinks I can’t handle anything on my own.”
Mapi nodded knowingly. “I get it. She can be a bit… intense. But you have to understand, she’s worried about you. It’s not easy for her to watch you go through this, especially when she knows how hard it can be.”
“I know she cares, but I’m 21. I need some independence. It’s frustrating,” you said, frustration leaking into your voice.
“Believe me, I understand. I’ve been there with my own family,” Mapi said, sitting down on the edge of your bed. “But Alexia is just trying to cope with the situation in her own way. She’s always been your protector, since the day you were born.”
“Yeah, but it feels more like a cage sometimes,” you confessed, your voice softening.
Mapi smiled gently. “It’s a tough balance for her. Just give her a little time. She’ll come back around. Maybe a little chat about how you feel might help.”
You nodded, appreciating her insight. “Thanks, Maps. I really needed to hear that.”
“Anytime,” she replied. “You’re going to get through this. Just remember to take it one step at a time. And when you’re up and walking again, we’ll go out and celebrate.”
You chuckled, picturing yourself hanging out with all your teammates again. “That sounds like a plan.”
Just then, the door opened again, and Alexia stepped back in, looking a bit sheepish and like she had gone on a run. “Can I come in?” she asked hesitantly.
“Of course,” you replied, your heart softening at the sight of her.
“I’m sorry for how I reacted,” she began, her voice sincere. “I didn’t mean to crowd you. I just want to help, but I realize I might have gone overboard and we should both listen to what your doctor says first and foremost.”
You took a deep breath. “I’m sorry too. I know you care, but I need to feel like I’m still me, even in recovery.”
Alexia nodded, relief washing over her features. “I understand. I’ll try to give you more space. Just know I’m here whenever you need me.”
“Deal,” you said, a smile breaking through the tension.
Mapi stood up, sensing the moment was right for her to leave. “I’ll let you two talk some more. I have to get home anyways Ingrid is making my favorite dinner,” she said, giving you both a smile and a hug before she walked toward the door.
Once Mapi was gone, you turned to Alexia. “I love you so much and I know you are just trying to help me. I'll let you know if I need help for any reason and how about when I need to get up i'll let you know so you can be nearby in case I need help.”
“That sounds good,” she replied, her eyes brightening at the compromise.
With the air cleared, you both relaxed a lot more , Alexia only helping you after you tried something first or with stuff the doctor told you you couldn't do.
I love reading your random Boothill thoughts 🥲. Especially the one where he is a dad. Do you think he is a girl dad or boy dad?
Ahhh thank you! Ik you sent it before his story was leaked but man was this spot on 🫠 here’s some dad!boothill hc with reader because im starving
Warning: mentions of pregnant reader and all that jazz, SPOILERS FOR BOOTHILLS STORY.
I FELT IN MY BONES he was a girl dad before it was revealed to be canon! Boothill gives so much girl dad vibes it’s immaculate. He’d love to pick out pink clothes for his daughter, pink shoes, ponies and other plushies! Or rather, he loved.
That’s until you happened to get pregnant shortly before he left for his surgery. He came back a few weeks later with his new body, but no one was home. A small gift bag sat on the table, waiting for him; Boothill opened the bag and grabbed a piece of long paper, a black and white picture. A small bean present in the middle; the back of the picture held a tiny caption, that read: “I’m only a few weeks old. I can’t wait to meet you, daddy.”
Even though the wound was still fresh and open, since not long has passed since the incident on his planet - Boothill began to feel bitter determination to give his baby the best life they could ever have; this time, a life that wouldn’t see its end so fast.
Boothill is very interested in your pregnancy! He’s sometimes unable to go to every appointment (whether be it the ipc who are hunting him, or the opposite), but he knows he can’t mess it up. Not again. He’s always holding your hand when you have an ultrasound scan, glaring at the doctor and making sure they don’t hurt you or the baby, and giving your tummy so. many. kisses. He assists you in the bath, just talking to you can keeping you company, since water, cords and a pregnant human aren’t a good combo. He wants you to tell him everything.
That’s when you finally tell Boothill that you’ll have a baby girl - his mechanic heart shatters and swells with love at the same time; it’s such a strange feeling, that makes the cowboy feel a little guilty. Both of you fall silent, until Boothill makes a move and closes the distance between you, smiling sadly at you and softly caressing your stomach with his hand, “I’ll treasure her forever.”
There are days when Boothill truly feels like the hole in his heart cannot be healed after your first daughter, but he knows she’d love to have a little sister. Yet he’s here, now a cyborg and the only memory of her is just one, lonely picture. He makes sure to never let her existence fade away by telling your round tummy that he’ll love them both until the end.
On a happier note, Boothill is just. Such a good dad, but also a chaotic one sometimes, especially if your daughter inherits her dad’s personality. They’re doing everything together - if she wants to have her hair braided, he does so, and lets her braid his (even if his hair gets so tangled at first, to the point he has to cut it 😭), good god! He loves her so much and always hugs her so tightly when she runs up to him after she notices her dad is back home.
Boothill just loves hearing her little giggles and always makes her laugh! Sometimes he tickles her so much she throws her plushies at him.
Boothill wants all her milestones to be forever preserved. He has tons of pictures of her, a few photo albums - it’s never enough. He’s so proud when she says her first word, when she takes her first steps by herself, her first drawing for him (even if she drew it on the fridge with a black marker), her first birthday. He wants to give her everything she could ever have.
Boothill might've cried the night when his little baby drew him a family portrait - with you, herself, her daddy and older sister. He's injected in her every possible good memory about her, and she never fails to appreciate her older sister even if she isn't there, knowing her dad still loves her just as much.
When Boothill’s little princess cancels the weekly tea party he’s always attended, it’s HIM who feels sad about and pouty about it.
Boothill buys his daughter tons of different hats! They’re always carefully picked and he makes sure she likes them waiting for her approval, but most of the time she wants to just wear his. She doesn’t care she’s drowning in it, it’s the best because it’s Boothill’s hat.
Even though Boothill never mentioned her anything about playing guitar, one day she started to play him a tiny bit of song she learned at school - although clumsily and due to stress, Boothill listened to her and threw her in the air in happiness when she finished - he knew it was your job and couldn’t be more thankful. Once again, he made yet another guitar in his life - this time to finally listen to his little one’s music and teach her many, many other songs they’d later play and sing together.
Oh god, when Boothill’s daughter announced her “boyfriend” she met at daycare, he just stared at her with wide eyes. This is also an instance where he cried that night and you had to calm him down. Later on he insisted to be the one to take her to daycare, and gently threatened the said toddler, “look, stinker. Don’t ya dare GET NEAR ma lil’ angel, or else.” This was his last visit without your supervision. And also, your daughter just laughed at him and left… so yeah, plan failed successfully, I guess?
Mandatory naps with daddy after daycare. Well, Boothill only pretends to sleep when she looks at him - but once she falls asleep on his chest, he looks at her with so much love, gently resting on his chest and stroking her hair, that was just like his and adoring her tiny face, that he thought was the most perfect mix of you and him. Boothill shushes you with his finger quietly, when you ungraciously enter your home. A content smile appears on his lips when you give him and your daughter an apologetic kiss on their foreheads, still hearing her snoozing tenderly.
Researchers say the average length of a dream is two to three minutes long. But many people experience their dreams as hours, days, or even years if they can remember them at all.
The science of dreaming has been questioned for hundreds of years. Some hypothesise that dreams are our way of processing real events that occur when we’re awake. They also serve as an outlet for repressed hopes and desires. Neuroscientists introduce a new theory every few years. But honestly, no one knows why we dream.
Or why we have nightmares. We just hope that after the dream, we wake up.
“We’ve gone over all the risks, weighed up all the possible outcomes, dotted I’s and crossed T’s. Today is the day, Mrs. Seresin.” Doctor Morrison was hopeful in his consultation. The white coat-wearing man reassured you as he placed your chart back where it belonged. “How are you feeling?”
The question went unanswered for a moment or two. You felt like you were in a state of shock. Unable to truly express how you felt just hours before going into what could be life-changing surgery. You were giving everyone in the room a thousand-yard stare. Mentally and physically, you had checked out. Like you’d been stuck in a nightmare that wouldn’t stop torturing you.
“We had some bad news last night. A close friend passed away unexpectedly,” Jake answered on your behalf. “Is there any way–”
“We need to do this now, Mr. Seresin, or we won’t be able to revisit this for a few months,” Dr. Morrison explained with an emphasis on the matter of now or never. “I understand personal circumstances may have changed. However, knowing everything you know about risk and recovery and survival rates after double mastectomies, I recommend we stick to the organised care plan.”
“Can we have a moment alone?” Jake asked cautiously as his hand came to rest gently on your shoulder. You hadn’t moved from what could only be described as a catatonic-like state for the entire duration of the conversation.
“Of course,” Dr. Morrison nodded. “I’ll come back after I’ve checked in on a few patients.”
It didn’t take long at all for the oncology crew to exit the room. But the second they did, you felt like you could breathe again.
“I can’t go through with this surgery Jake,” you begged. Fear of the unknown had taken over your entire being. “I can’t do this,”
“You are the strongest person I know, honey, the kids and I really need you to do this.” Jake tried his best to comfort you as well as remind you why this surgery was so important. “We need you, yeah? We need you to stick around and this fucking cancer, this disease, is trying to cut that time short.”
“But Jensen–”
At the height of the Great Depression, Harvard scientists started tracking students in hopes of discovering the key to a long and happy life. They looked at participants’ mental and physical health over seventy-five years. It’s the longest study of happiness to date. Seventy-five years and all they did was confirm what we’ve known since the beginning of time.
The most powerful predictor of health and happiness is the quality of our relationships.
Strong relationships protect us. Loneliness on the other hand…can be deadly.
“Would want you to keep fighting and have this surgery.” Jake could have said he thought Jensen was a coward. He could have said how angry he was at that fucker for leaving you alone in this world with no one to confide in who knew the struggle, who knew the feeling of being told you’re sick and need to get sicker in order to get better.
Jake could have told you how he wished Jensen had survived so he could kill him himself. Jake could have responded with the fact Jensen was terminal and there was nothing on this earth that could have saved him from his illness.
Jake could have told you that Jensen thought you hung the stars and the moon in the night sky every night just for him…but then Jake would also have to admit to himself and you that maybe, just maybe, you should have moved on.
“What would he say right now if he was here?” Jake settled on that question just to keep himself sane. He didn’t want to open yet another can of worms right before your surgery. This was all one big giant nightmare already, he didn’t want to make it worse. If anything, Jake kept pinching himself in secret just hoping that maybe he’d wake up on the couch and this cancer saga would all be some sadistic subconscious dream of his.
He’d always been deathly afraid of not being good enough for you.
“He’d tell me to do it,” you sighed as you let your head rest against the upright bed. “He’d tell me to be strategic about the battle, the war is the endgame.”
“Exactly, one battle at a time, step by step,” Jake agreed with a cheeky smile. That signature Seresin smile you so effortlessly loved. “You’re not gonna hand in the white flag before the battles even really begins, are you?”
“Kinda want to if I’m being completely honest with you,” you responded knowing Jake would appreciate the honesty. “But I guess you and the kids really need me to stick around, huh?”
“Oh, I can’t even begin to explain how much we need you to stick around, honeybee.” it was as honest and as sincere as Jake could be. He wore his heart on his sleeve for you. He exposed every nerve he had just so you could dance your feather-like fingers across the tender strings that made Jake, Jake.
“I’m so scared of being alone in the operating room,” you admitted as Jake leaned in to leave a gentle kiss on your forehead. “I’m so scared they won’t see me as a person,” It was an explanation that broke Jake’s heart even though he believed his heart couldn’t be broken any more. “That they won’t remember I’m me, that I have a life and a family and people who will miss me.”
Over the course of our lives, our relationships ebb and flow. We get together, break up, move away, or fall out of touch. It’s prolonged periods of loneliness and toxicity that wreak havoc on our health, our brain function, and our longevity.
“You’re never alone,” Jake replied softly as tears threatened to spill over his waterline. “I’m always with you, the kids are always with you, Jensen, your mum, everyone will be with you during that surgery, we’re gonna be waiting on the other side.”
“I love you so much, Jake Seresin,” you smiled brightly through a tight-lipped smile Jake wished he could save in his mind’s eye forever. “Let’s win this battle.”
“And the war too,” Jake replied as he reached for your hand, gave it a soft squeeze, and brought your palm to his lips. “Let’s fucking do this, Y/n.”
*************************************
Jake sat waiting by the vending machine as he picked at the small single service-sized packet of original Lays he’d nearly had to beg the machine to drop. His watch told him it was almost nearing the end of your surgery. He wasn't stressed, not when your surgeon had been so hopeful and calming. Jake had spent far too much of his time recently worrying about the what-ifs. He wanted to focus on the now. And that now was the fact you would have been nearing the end of your surgery. Which meant soon enough he’d get to see you again.
The only thing that kept Jake on his toes was the ever-looming doubt that perhaps the treatment plan wouldn't be enough. He hoped that you had enough fight in you to make it through the journey. He needed you to have enough strength to fight.
“She should be coming out of surgery soon–” Jake explained as he held his phone up to his ear and tried not to chew so loud. “The kids know that Rooster is picking them up to bring them home to Grandma Maz’s house?”
“Yeah, Mum’s not too happy about it but she won't keal over about it,” Jasmine replied as she watched her brother's kids play with hers in the backyard she and Jake used to make mud pies in. “Rooster messaged about an hour ago saying he was close, he shouldn't be too far away now.” Jas continued in her own little world. Jake was used to not being able to get a word in with his youngest sister. “I can't believe Y/n has fucking cancer–does her side of the family have a history or…?”
“Not that we know of, it's just really bad luck, Jas,” Jake sighed as he let his head fall back against the wall his chair was pressed up against. “But hopefully with this surgery and the chemo, she’ll be able to beat it.”
“Well, you tell her that I’m pissed she gets a boob job before I do,” Jasmine tried her best to keep the situation as light-hearted as possible. “Make sure she gets a good rack, not too small or too big, like a good handful that's just right.”
“I'll be sure to let her know,” Jake smiled, he really could count on his sister for that. “Oh, I gotta go, I see Y/n’s surgeon.” Jake sat up in anticipation as anxiety flooded his nervous system. “Tell the kids we love them for me.”
“Have been every day,” Jasmine replied quickly knowing her brother probably had his phone down from his ear by now. “Bye.”
Jake was quick to pocket his phone and wipe the crumbs from his shirt as he stood to greet your surgeon. However, something seemed off about the man who had seemed so confident before your surgery.
“Mr. Seresin–”
“How is she?” Jake asked. He didn't mean to interrupt, but he needed to know first and foremost before any medical mumbo jumbo. “My wife, how’d the surgery go?”
There was a very telling pause that accompanied the sober look that Doctor Morrison wore, but Jake tried not to read into it all that much. He knew you would be fine.
Right?
“Mr Seresin, your wife's heart was weakened by the stress of her recent stroke,” Doctor Morrison began to explain as Jake stood there expecting good news. “She, unfortunately, went into a cardiac arrest–” the air around Jake disappeared. Almost instantly, he felt as if he were floating in space. “We tried to revive her for the better half of twenty minutes while she was on the table,” There was a pause. A telling moment where reality and fantasy were trying to battle it out. Who’s version of events would win? When Doctor Morrison saw Jake’s mind short-circling with an inability to process the magnitude of information, he felt as if he needed to continue explaining the severity of the situation.
“It was catastrophic, and I'm afraid we've lost her.” Doctor Morrison had told far too many loved ones over the years that they had lost family members, but never in all his years had he ever seen such immediate denial written in the lines on someone's face. “Mr. Seresin, your wife has died.” The words Doctor Morrison was saying were not sinking in as Jake stood there completely blind to the reality happening around him. “I’m so sorry for your loss–”
“Uh–” Jake frowned as the confusion kicked in. “I'm sorry, you must have mistaken me for someone else. My wife was fine before she went in for surgery, she was fine.”
“Yes, yes, your wife was fine, yes–” Doctor Morrison tried to keep his composure, but even after all these years the losses still hurt. It made him feel human to experience the emotions alongside the family members, but in the first few seconds of watching Jake Seresin spiral into a hole of denial that you were, in fact, gone, Doctor Morrison, knew this particular loss would haunt him for the rest of his career.
Speaking slowly, Doctor Morisson tried once more to explain what had happened in a way that Jake would understand. “The stress of the surgery along with her recent stroke…her body just couldn't handle the stress. Her heart experienced a cardiac episode and we unfortunately couldn’t revive her.”
The immediate silence between the two men was all-consuming as it was telling. Jake’s heart was breaking in two.
“Is there someone I can call for you?” Doctor Morrison tried to be as empathetic as he could be, this part of the job was never easy. The part where he was tasked with telling loved ones that the people they loved had passed on his table. They were few and far between, but the people he did lose would forever haunt him. He could name every single one and their family’s name too. Jake Seresin would be a name Doctor Morrison would remember for the rest of his life and into the next.
“Are you out of your mind?” Jake pushed back almost immediately as he tried to wrap his head around what he was being told. This didn’t make any sense, you were just here. You were fine.
“No, Mr. Seresin I–” Doctor Morrison tried to explain again, but it was to no avail.
“I–Okay, I think you must be mistaken,” Jake wiped his hand on his jeans as he stepped back. “I just need to ge–”
“Mr. Seresin, please.” Doctor Morrison tried to stop Jake from leaving the waiting area, but Jake just stepped further back with a frown of disgust and grief. He was still holding his packet of Lays.
“No, no can you just, can you back up?” Jake nearly growled. “Can you leave me alone?” Jake looked around as he tried to remember how to breathe. People were staring at him like he was in a zoo. A caged and cornered animal begging to be left alone. “Can somebody get this person to just give me some space please?” It was as heartbreaking as it was cruel to watch Jake walk down the hall towards where he knew your hospital room was.
“Y/n?” He called out hoping you'd be back by now. “You won’t believe this guy, honey. He just–” The moment Jake rounded the corner and saw your hospital room empty with no sign of you, he stood still. All the air had been sucked right from his lungs as his eyes scanned the room. Your Christmas lights weren’t flashing, your bed wasn't made, and your laptop sat open with a black screen, but just where you’d left it. You weren't back.
“Y/n?” Jake whispered under his breath as his eyes continued to scan the empty hospital room just waiting for you to appear from out of the bathroom or sneak up behind him. But Jake knew you weren't about to appear even though he wished for nothing more.
“Oh–” One step, two steps, three steps, four. Jake didn't know where he was but he was on the move. He couldn't stay here looking at an empty room. He had to find where you were. “Oh god, no, no no no no no, please no don’t take her away from me.”
“Jake!” The woman's voice Jake had come to know over the last few days broke through the fog that was clouding Jake's mind. He continued to stumble blindly down the ward. “I just heard,” Lydia explained as she rushed up to the man who she had come to know as your husband. “I'm so sorry, I wasn't expecting this to happen. I thought–” Lydia quickly reacted when Jake's knees buckled underneath him.
“Woah! I need a little help over here!” Doctor Morrison was quick on the draw as he made his way over to where Jake now kneeled on the floor unable to breathe.
“My wife–” Jake tried to talk as he hyperventilated. “Y/n!” he cried out for all to hear. “Y/N!”
“She's gone.” Doctor Morrison had to make sure the fact was sinking in.
“Oh Jake, I’m so sorry–” Lydia tried to console the six-foot-something man who had crumbled to his knees. “Your wife was an amazing woman.”
Jake still couldn't believe it, he didn't believe it, and he wouldn't. The pain he felt inside his chest, the burning hot sensation was excruciating. He’d never felt such a feeling of grief mixed with denial and so much love. You couldn’t be gone. He was having a nightmare, wasn’t he? This wasn't real. He was dreaming. This was all one big dream. It had to be. It had to be a nightmare his subconscious had concocted. A nightmare where Jake lost it all. His biggest fears were realised.
“I need my wife, I need Y/n,” Jake sobbed as Lydia kneeled on the ground in front of him just assessing his current state of shock. “I can't, she can't–no no no she's fine, please tell me she's fine.”
“I'm so sorry, Jake,” Lydia confirmed what Jake wished so desperately wasn’t true. “She’s gone,” Lydia’s voice became distorted as she held the broken man in her arms. “You need to wake up before it's too late.”
Bradley Bradshaw was accustomed to losing the people he loved the most in this world. He’d lost his father, his mother, and his grandparents. For a while there he’d lost the only man who had ever slightly filled the shoes his dad left behind. But the loss of someone who was still there was something he’d never had to handle before.
“Nat, he hasn’t gotten out of bed in days,” Bradley groaned as he cleaned up the kitchen. “The kids already lost their mother,” Bradley tried his best to keep his voice down, but the way little Lennox clocked Bradley from where he was sitting at the dining table made him realise he wasn’t one to talk on the quiet side. “They don’t need to lose their dad too.”
Jake stood just outside of Bradley’s eyeline, but he could hear everything the giant overgrown bird was saying. He couldn’t hear what Phoenix was saying but there was enough back and forth on Bradley’s behalf to easily fill in the gaps.
“No. No, he hasn’t been down since the funeral.” Jake forgot how to exhale at the mere mention of your funeral as he hid in the hall. He couldn’t remember ever getting ready or speaking at your wake. He couldn’t remember who drove them or if the kids cried. He couldn’t remember hugging your mother or shaking your brother’s hand. Jake couldn’t remember any details about the flowers he’d organised or the people who were there.
The anti-depressants weren’t helping. Nothing was. Nothing would.
Until today, Jake couldn’t bring himself to get out of bed. Without you, there was no point. He was begrudgingly okay with living a life in a world where you were still in it. But living in a world where you were no longer present wasn’t something Jake was willing to do. The kids would be fine with their grandparents. They’d be fine with Uncle Rooster. Lennox and Lucy and little Sammy didn’t need him. How was he supposed to look into their eyes and know he could never see the twinkle in yours ever again?
“I’m really worried about him, Nat,” Rooster sighed as he held his phone up to his ear with his shoulder. He was working on making little Samy some banana pancakes. “As much as I want to, I can’t stay here forever, but he needs someone.”
“No one is asking you to babysit me, Bradshaw,” Jake replied to the statement Bradley wasn’t expecting an answer to. “You can leave, trust me, I can drop the kids off with my mum.”
Bradley stood stunned into silence as he watched Jake round the corner and into vision. He reluctantly reached for his phone and hung up as Phoenix questioned what was going on.
“Hey man,” Rooster finally broke the silence as he watched Jake walk closer and closer to where Sammy sat in his high chair. “How you feeling today?”
“Well, my wife’s still dead, so that’s something,” Jake replied with a sigh as he picked up Sammy and placed him on his lap. Lennox could see the look of pure admiration in his younger brother’s eyes as Jake hugged the smallest of the Seresin kids. “Seriously, you’ve done enough for us, I got it from here.” It was the biggest lie Jake had ever tried to tell not only himself but his best friend.
“Uh,” Bradley wasn’t convinced. “Are you sure? I mean–I wanna stay as long as you need man,” Bradley tried to plead his case as Jake went about his business with Sammy. The business being nothing. Jake stood somewhat dazed and lost in the middle of the clean-ish kitchen. A kitchen he knew where nothing was. It wasn’t his. It was yours.
“I think the kids should come back to North Island with me,” Jake opted to ignore what Bradley was saying. Instead, he decided to continue with a vague plan for what the future holds. A future he didn’t want to have with you. A future he didn’t care about.
“You want the kids to uproot everything they know?” Rooster frowned as he looked over to where Lenny sat watching on. The kids were down, to say the least. Bradley could recognise himself in the permanent pout that had taken shape across Lennox’s face. The puffy eyes and saddened expression really tied the whole look of mourning together. They were just kids, they didn’t deserve any of this. “I don’t think you should be thinking about coming back to work anything soon either.”
“I don’t need you micromanaging me,” Jake hissed as he held onto his youngest son, all the while his eldest watched on with concern for his dad. “I need you to go home, Rooster, we’ve got it from here.”
“You don’t got anything, Seresin. Are you kidding me right now?” Bradley didn’t mean to come across as so defensive. But he’d seen Jake in this grief-fueled spiral long enough to know that his destructive and depressive mindset would end up causing more distress for the kids than intended. Jake was a good dad, that had never been questioned. Until now… Bradley wasn’t sure if his best friend could handle parenting three small children without a village to back him up. “The kids haven’t seen you in days–”
“Would you rather them see me at my worst or not see me at all?” Jake’s grief was eating away at him. So much so that Jake began to wish each time he closed his eyes he’d get to stay with the version of you his mind had envisioned. “I’m fine, I’ve got it from here,” Jake sighed as he hugged little Sammy with all the strength that he had. “I wasn’t, but I’m fine now and I just wanna spend time with the kids.”
“I don’t believe a word you’re saying right now man,” Bradley replied as he caught sight of Lucy coming down the hall. She’d been sleeping much like her father was. Great, all three Seresin children were present for their father’s impending breakdown.
“Get the fuck out of my house, Bradshaw.” This hadn’t been the first confrontation Jake and Bradley had gotten into while Bradley had been staying in Rhode Island as the Seresin kid’s personal live-in nanny. And it certainly wouldn’t be the last. It was becoming an almost everyday occurrence. The only difference this time was the kids were here to witness it. “I don’t need you here–”
“You aren’t thinking straight, just–how about the kids and I go for a walk or something and you sort yourself out? Have a shower? Shave? Drink something other than alcohol for–” Before Rooster could finish his sentence, Jake was placing Sam on the kitchen floor with a haste that didn’t sit right with Rooster. Lennox was the first to move from his chair. He was the spitting image of his father.
“I don’t fucking care, Rooster!” Jake shouted at the top of his lungs. So loud and with such rage that the veins in his neck were popping as his skin turned a nice shade of ruby red. He took fast strides across the kitchen until Jake was standing toe to toe with his best friend. The very friend who’d been taking care of his children since before your passing. “I have to live the rest of my fucking live without the woman I love, so, cut me some godman slack before I knock your smug ass head from your shoulders.”
Bradley didn’t move. He didn’t retaliate. He watched over Jake’s shoulder how his three children all cowered on the kitchen floor, scared of how their father yelled. Jake was oblivious to his surroundings. He couldn’t see the kids were struggling too.
“Jake?” Bradley sighed as he placed his hands on either side of Jake’s face. “When the fuck are you gonna get through all this?” Braley asked softly as he remained calm. “When are you gonna wake up?”
“Wake up?” Jake repeated as he pulled his face from his best friend's grip. “Wake up? Bradshaw, I died with my wife! There is no waking up from any of this!”
“Maybe–” Bradley shrugged as he walked over to where the kids had been huddled together. It was only as Jake followed Bradley’s trajectory that he realised how much he’d scared his children. Something he never wanted to do. “There's always hope though.”
“Kids,” Jake sighed as his tears began to fall. He dropped to his knees right then and there in the kitchen he wasn't familiar with. In a house that was now cold and dark without your constant radiating light to keep it warm and bright. “Guys, I'm sorry, huh–Dad didn't mean to raise his voice, he’s just–” Before Jake could finish his sentence, little Lennox was finishing his father’s sentence for him.
“You’re just sick, dad.”
“What?” Jake frowned as the kids made their way over to where Jake was kneeling on the tiles.
“I said you’re just sad, Dad,” Lennox replied once more as he gave his dad a hug. “We’ll take care of you.”
************************
December 31st
Jake Seresin tried his best to hide the wet tears that fell down his cheeks as he sat with his kids on the lounge of the home that he had tried his best to keep as tidy as he could. There was a lot of uncertainty, a lot of frustration, a lot of fear and unbelievable sadness that surrounded Jake and your three small children. The unknown was truly tragic, terrifying and treacherous, but Jake wasn’t about to let his kids see the way he so desperately wanted to cry.
Things had changed since Jake fell mind, body and soul into an unimaginably deep hole of depression. So much so that days had become to feel like one long dream. A paradox of grief and manic love. Your mother had told Jake to feel every ounce of emotion he had locked away. Maz had told him that grief was just someone’s residual love with nowhere else to go.
Once Jake was able to understand that the pain of losing you was his love for you, he understood why it hurt so deeply on a cellular level. He understood why it hurt to look at the children he’d created with you. He understood why the kids had wanted to sit and open the small, still-wrapped Christmas present Lenny had found in Jake’s bag when he was looking for his dad’s wallet.
Because it was one of the last things you ever gifted someone. It was one of your last acts on earth.
“What did Mum get you for Christmas, Daddy?” Jake held the small present in the palm of his hand, the present he had yet to open. The present he wasn’t sure he wanted to. It felt like something he’d held before, the weight felt all too familiar. It haunted him the more he carried it around, held it in the palm of his hand and contemplated the inevitable.
“I dunno buddy, you reckon I should open it?” Jake asked as he kissed his son's head. “S’not Christmas anymore.” The Naval Aviator had recently shaved his head, it had been the closest to a number one he’d ever had. It was in solidarity, union. A decision he made in the blink of an eye but one he did not regent or ever would.
“We haven’t taken the tree down yet,” Lucy added her two cents into the conversation as she laid her head on her father’s thigh. “Mum would be upset if you didn’t open it, Dad.” Jake knew that much was true, you probably would be pretty bent out of shape if he never opened it.
“Alright, I’d better open it then huh?” Jake shook the small perfectly wrapped box he could hold in the palm of his hand. He heard what sounded like a rock rattle inside. His heart nearly exploded inside his chest.
Fuck….Jake knew what it was and he really didn’t want to open it.
“Hey, Dad?” Lucy’s voice sounded completely different to anything Jake had ever heard before. She was looking right at him yet her eyes were trained on something one hundred miles away.
“Yeah, sweetheart?” Jake replied just as he was about to open the present you’d given him before his life was turned upside down.
“You need to wake up now,” Lucy’s voice sounded familiar, but it wasn’t her own. “You’ve had enough time here,”
“What are you talking about Lu?” Jake frowned as he looked at his daughter. An extension of himself and you. “Lucy? Are you feeling okay?”
“You’ll be a good dad soon,” Lucy smiled as she unwrapped the small ring box in Jake’s hand. The ring box that held what Jake assumed to be your engagement ring. But as little Lucy opened the wrapping, a blinding light burst through the cracks. A light so bright it forced Jake to squint.
“Please wake up, honey,” Jake heard your voice clear as day as Lucy opened the ring box to send a piercing white light into the living room. Jake was completely captured by the light around him. So much so the entire room was drowned in a light so pure it was crystal clear. He couldn’t see a single thing beyond the all-encompassing white.
“Please wake up for us,” again your voice was the only thing Jake could hear in the void he found himself in.
“Y/n?” Jake called out into the void around him. He could feel his ribcage breaking like he couldn't breathe. Every breath he took was agony. “Hello?” Yet he could hear your voice. A voice he longed for. A voice he had to get back to. Jake had to get to you.
“I’m here, you’re alright,” Jake once again heard your angelic siren song. His head began to throb. The feeling was agonising. Like there was no more room for swelling.
“Where are you?” Jake called out as he stumbled in the light. The smell of burning flesh mixed with jet fuel overcame Jake’s senses. His need to get to you was more powerful than the deep bone ache he could feel in his legs. There was nothing on earth or beyond that would stop Jake from getting to wherever the hell you were calling him from. His entire body ached with a pain so unimaginable it sent him to his knees. Crawling, Jake cried out for you just one more time.
“Y/n!?” Jake called out once more in a desperate attempt to find you in the void. “Kids?”
“Here he comes,” Bradley’s voice echoed out as Jake looked up towards where he assumed the sky would be. The glare was too much. Jake placed his forearms over his forehead to soften the brightness. Come on Hangman, don't leave us out to dry.”
Some people spend their whole lives trying to make a dream come true. They set a goal and make a plan on how to achieve it. It works for some people. But for others, it’s not so easy. As hard as they work toward the dream, it can feel like the whole world has plotted against them.
As someone gets further and further away from the dream, people begin to cling to any sign of hope. And the longer it takes and the more it costs…you start to consider whether you should give up. Do you find a new dream? Or do you stick to the one that started you on this journey in the first place?
For Jake, things weren’t as black and white.
As Jake closed his eyes and took one painful last breath in, he felt as if he’d fallen from cloud nine. When he opened his eyes, the light was still there….But he wasn’t.
Jake’s eyelids fluttered, the faintest hint of light creeping through the haze of his mind. He tried to move, but his body felt foreign as if it wasn’t entirely his own. The weight of unconsciousness clung to him, reluctant to release its hold. Slowly, he became aware of the sounds around him—
“Jake, It’s me, can you hear me?”
Of course, we will discuss everything concerning your commission privately.
Please consider helping me out, whether by requesting a commission, or by sharing this post and my links as much as possible!! I’m trying my best to do all I can now that I haven’t got many options left.
As some of you might already know, I’m a dentist, but still at uni. Sadly, studying dentistry is extremely expensive, and I can’t rely on my parents to pay my fees for me for a few reasons.
The first being that my dad is a heart patient, and can’t work anymore. The pension he receives is literally less than the equivalent of 90 dollars. Of course, that doesn’t provide anything in terms of food and living (we usually can only afford a meal or two a day) except for some of his meds—not even all of them. His health is steadily declining.
My mother is extremely narcissistic and very, very abusive. I’ve gone through hell living with her because I have to, but even she can’t even afford to take care of us because no one wants to hire her at her old age, and she’s used up all her savings on my dad.
I’m also physically disabled, and can’t move around often. I also have to have surgeries every now and then because of the chronic illness I have.
I am in serious, dire need of money, both for my tuition fees, and hopefully to be able to live. I have to keep us afloat until I can get married in a couple of years, since I can’t live alone. Besides, my dad doesn’t deserve to suffer with his heart problems.
I tried working with dentistry last year, and that worked for a while, but this year no one’s hiring due to the terrible state of our economy. I have no skills aside from my writing, so that’s what I’ll have to work with. I’m getting seriously desperate, so I hope you guys understand why I’m doing this, and hopefully feel inclined to offer any support you can—even if not financial, but just by reblogging this post!
Not My Sister's Keeper Pt. 9
Roman X OC(Kara)
Jey Uso X OC (Tia)
Rating: 18+
Warning: Smut; sex, fluff, couple arguing, Jealousy, infidelity, pregnancy
Roamn’s wife recently left medical school and returned home to save her marriage. Upon her return, she finds out things are not what they seem. Her sister is pregnant by her best friend Jey Uso, who is also Roman’s cousin, and her husband is acting suspicious.
What happens when a conversation overhead on a baby monitor blows her world apart?
Boston Municipal Courthouse
Janice’s POV
“Mama, I’m ok,” Roman said as I sat there in disbelief as they took Tia out of the courtroom. “Son something ain’t right…..Why did they sentence her today? Why she got a short sentence, weren’t we all watching the same video because she needs to be up under the jail.”
“The Judge said it was because of the plea deal, her clean record and just wanting this over for everyone,” he said looking at Kara who seemed to be struggling with the verdict and I don’t blame her.
“Son something in the milk ain’t clean…..Regardless of the verdict he should have rescheduled a date for sentencing. That would have given him time to give a more suitable sentence for crime because that wasn’t it,” I said as Roman hugged me.
“Ma, can we just leave, I’m ready to get outta Boston,” he said as I sighed giving him a hug seeing Jey heading over.
“Aye, you ok auntie?” he asked as Roman moved and I gave him a hug. “Yes, baby I am, just can’t believe what happened in here today.”
“Neither can but we’re all bout to go leave and get some rest. We’re flying out tomorrow but planning to hit up the 16 East Bar and Grill in Pensacola on Sunday before we head back out on the road,” Jey said smiling at me.
“You’re inviting us?” Roman asked in shock as Jey sighed. “I’m still mad as hell at you, but I can’t help but be thankful you were there with Kara. You risked your life to save her and Trin…That what family do.”
“I love them both…I always will, it ain’t nothing to thank me for.”
“Well, the option is open, we’ll probably get there about 7. Trin reserved the patio, so we ain’t gotta worry about people,” Jey said as I smiled.
Hey, I will take those baby steps in the healing process. I know we will come back together in some shape or form.
“Well, we will meet ya’ll there Sunday,” Roman said as I tried to contain my excitement, praying this was a positive step in the right direction for us.
----
Kara’s House
Kara’s POV
I’m glad we did come back to the house alone and just chilled out. I don’t know how I would have reacted hanging out with my mom, I needed time to decompress.
“Girl, I love this back yard,” Trin gushed as I smiled wrapping myself up in my blanket.
“Thanks, when I saw the firepit I fell in love,” I said as she nodded roasting her marshmallows.
“I may have to talk Jimmy into getting us one. You know marshmallows are my weakness.” “That’s why I keep them stocked up ma’am,” I said as she smiled brightly at me.
“I know you had a lot of work to make up, did you finish?” Trin asked as I smiled. “I’m finally caught up, it wasn’t easy, but I have two A’s and two high B’s” I said truly proud of how I overcame and turned everything around.
“Yes! You know when you graduate I’mma act a fool…You know this right?” she said making me laugh as I looked at Jey flipping the meat on the grill as Jimmy was telling him some animated story. I loved their relationship so much.
“Have you told Jey?” Trin asked as I smiled at her. “Told him what?”
“Uh, that you love him, duh,” she said as I blushed. “I’ll have you know I told him the night I woke up from surgery.”
“That’s great…So are ya’ll together or what is we doing?”
“I’m scared Trin,” I said honestly as she nodded in understanding. “Do you want to be with Jey?” she asked as I nodded. “Yea, I really do.”
“Then be with him Kara, what’s the problem?.…That man loves and adores you,” she said gently pushing my shoulder.
“I can see the blogs now having a fucking field day. Imagine their us at family gatherings. Chile, did you hear Kara is here with Joshua like she wasn’t married to Roman.” I mocked as Trin shrugged her shoulders.
“Girl, fuck them bloggers and keyboard trolls, they don't know you and it ain't they fuckin' business. Plus, you knew Jey before Roman anyway."
"Ok, but like I said, what about the family gatherings. You know they always have parties and cookouts," I said as Trin smiled.
"Fuck their opinions too, but I don’t think it will be a problem, everyone loves you, especially mom and pops. They hate what Roman did and I think you’re overthinking it.”
“So much is going on, I just don’t want to hurt him Trin,” I whispered as she reached over and put her hand on my knee.
“It’s your time to be happy Kara and damn what people think. Life is too short, and you got a second chance at life.”
“I know I got a second chance, but I’m scared of screwing this up,” I said finally voicing my fears.
“Live your life Kara, tomorrow ain’t promised to none of us. You don’t owe anybody anything, ain’t no debts around here,” Trin said as I gave her a hug.
“I know and I love you, girly. Ugh, I’m so tired of crying,” I sniffed failing to stop my tears.
“I love you too, sis, it’s time for the happy tears now because you deserve it.”
“You really think so?” I asked barely above a whisper as she rubbed my back. “I know so, everything you’ve ever wanted for yourself in this life about to happen and I can’t wait to see witness it.”
“Ya’ll aright over there?” Jimmy asked as Jey turned to look back at us.
“Yea, just two sisters having our daily talk,” I said as Trin laughed.
“Ya’ll know how we get, let us have our moment,” she said as Jimmy shook his head. “Man, what we gon’ do with them two?” Jimmy asked as Jey chuckled handing him a pan so he could take some of the steaks off the grill.
“Love ‘em and let them do their thang,” he chuckled. “Yea, what he said!” Trin yelled as I laughed.
Trin was right it’s my time to put myself first and live my life. Anything or anybody that disrupts my peace from this point forward gotta go, because it’s a new beginning for me, for us all.
A Few Days Later
Janice’s POV
We been home a couple days, and it was my day to pick up Logan. I can’t place it, but I knew something wasn’t right. “Lord, uncover whatever it is because we’ve all been through enough,” I said aloud feeling nauseous pulling into Rebecca and Bill’s driveway.
Knocking on the door and getting no answer, I called and once again no answer. I saw Rebecca’s car and had talked to her ten minutes ago. I was getting irritated now.
“How the hell you gon’ tell me to come over to get Logan and not pick up the phone or answer the door.” I mutter looking under the rug for their spare key.
Opening the door, I looked around and there was no sign of Rebecca in the foyer or living room. I could hear Logan babbling on the baby monitor in the living room, so I knew she was ok.
“Rebecca!” I called out, no answer. “This how these damn horror movie start, I hope this fool is ok,” I mutter heading towards the kitchen.
“I can’t thank you enough Terry,” I heard Rebecca say as I stopped in my tracks.
Who the hell is Terry?
“Rebecca, this is the last time I’m taking your call. I did this favor for you and Tia, but I don’t want to be tied to the drama. I got too much to lose,” I heard the familiar voice say as she laid the phone on the table.
“Thank you for helping her, she really is anxious to make it right with her sister when she gets out,” Rebecca said grabbing Logan’s formula putting it in her baby bag.
The damn judge….She was the reason for that shit show the other day.
“That’s good and all but I put in a no contact order in the paperwork for a reason. I truly feel she meant what she did and her actions alone warranted life in prison, but I helped you for old time sakes,” he said sounding seemingly disappointed with himself.
“I---We appreciate this so much, she’s going to stay out of trouble when she gets out and we won’t bother you again.”
I was physically ill, this was sick.
“I don’t know what hold your daughter has over you…But if this goes bad, it’s on your head. It would be in her best interest to just leave Kara be,” he said as she shook her head.
“I will handle Kara; she will come around and see Tia was just going through a lot and didn’t mean to hurt her. I just know by the time it’s time for Tia to get out, they will have reconnected, and Kara will be calling you to cancel that no contact order.”
This woman has lost it, like needs to sit on someone’s couch…ASAP. Hearing enough, I quietly retraced my steps finally finding my way back in the entrance of the house pretending I had just arrived.
“Rebecca, I’m here to get Logan!” I said a little louder as I heard her scrambling round the kitchen.
“She’s upstairs, I’ll get her,” she yelled as I shook my head.
I can’t believe she sold out her own daughter to protect the other one that tried to kill her. She and Tia are really one in the same she just masks her dirt.
It seemed like it took forever, but finally she brought Logan downstairs.
“Oh, baby girl I missed you,” I whispered as she placed a dozing Logan in my arms. “I put her formula in the bag, and she’s already had a bottle. She should be asleep before you get back home,” Rebecca said as I smiled at my little light.
That’s what she was to us, no matter how she was conceived, our little light.
“You can pick her up at Roman’s on Thursday. I’ll leave you to your nana break and see you tomorrow at dinner,” I said grabbing Logan’s diaper bag quickly wanting to get the hell outta dodge.
“Ok, we’ll see you then and enjoy her,” she said giving Logan a kiss on the forehead.
“Oh, we will,” I said making my way out of the house, thankful she didn’t follow me out. After strapping logan in her car seat I rushed to get back in the car to call Trin but got no answer, then I remembered she had a signing to do today.
“Hey sweetie, I forgot you had a signing, and I know ya’ll gotta help out Josh tonight. I’ll just see you tomorrow at dinner. You and Jonathon be safe, love ya’ll.”
I guess I’m on my own with this one, but I know one thing, Kara will know about the shady shit her mama did and I’mma make Rebecca tells her if it’s the last thing I do.
Jey’s House
Kayla’s POV
Getting out of the shower I felt refreshed as I dried off. Looking at myself in the mirror I felt different.. Today was amazing, we had our balcony picnic date. It was simple, beautiful, and was everything. Pizza, wine, and some of my favorite snacks had been on the menu.
The ocean serving as our backdrop and music as the waves crashed upon the shore due to a storm heading our way. We even went on a walk on the beach and watched the sunset before we got rained out. Hence the shower I just took.
I still hadn’t told Jey how I felt but today just solidified it even more. I was deeply in love with this man.
“You ok in there Kara?” Jey asked knocking on the door as I smiled.
“Yea, I’m good I’ll be out in a second,” I said dressing my wound. Thank God it’s finally healing and not hurting as much. Slipping on one of Jey’s shirts, I cut off the lights as I headed back into the bedroom, frowning when I didn’t see him.
“Jey-”
“I’m out here on the balcony, wait I’mma come get you,” he said as I smiled at the thought of going back out there.
“What have you done now?” I asked as he smiled clad only in a pair of shorts. “This is part two of your balcony picnic date, Ma,” he whispered offering me his hand as I anxiously took it.
“Aww it’s so pretty….Wait where did all this come from?” I gasped as he led me back out on the balcony. “Told you I wasn’t done yet, do you like it?”
“I love it but how did you do it? We been out here all day and I know I ain’t seen no bed out here earlier.” I said as he laughed.
“A couple of lil birdies did it when we went for a walk on the beach. This is your new study area for when you come to visit.” he said as I blushed looking at the bed on the balcony surrounded by pillows and the beautiful string lights above it.
“I can’t believe you did all this,” I said as he smiled, laying down beckoning me to him with his finger.
“Come on down here, Ma, I owe you a movie.” Not needing to be told twice, I climbed in bed and got comfortable in his arms.
“You know, I’ve always loved staying here. I could fall asleep out here just listening to the ocean, and now you done put a bed out here. You know it’s a wrap right, I may never leave,” I sighed, welcoming his lips as he placed a gentle kiss on the hollow of my neck. as I wrapped my arms around his shoulders pulling him closer.
“Maybe that was my plan, kidnap you, and never let you leave,” he said as I relaxed wanting to feel more of him as his hands caressed my bare thighs.
“You can’t kidnap the willing,” I moaned, his fingers feeling so good but I winced slightly as Jey looked at me with worry.
“Are you ok?” He asked as I nodded not wanting him to stop. “Kara, let me can get up, I’on wanna hurt you,” he said trying to sit up as I grabbed his Cuban link holding him in place.
“I’m fine, don’t you dare move,” I said as he smiled, rolling over on his back wrapping me up in his arms.
“Ok, this is a good compromise too,” I moaned getting comfortable as the pain in my chest subsided. “I know it is, stubborn ass,” Jey chuckled, reaching up to turn off the lights and starting the movie projector.
“What are we watching?” I asked, as he gently pulled one of my legs across his lap before covering us up with a blanket.
“You’ll see,” he whispered stealing a kiss as I squealed hearing the opening credits to Dirty Dancing as he laughed.
“The stuff I do for you, woman.”
“I love this movie!”
“I know, I remembered how excited you was at the hospital that night it came on. Then you got mad and almost made me switch the channel.”
“Hey, I was ready for the love scene, and they cut it… Just plain blasphemous, but I took one for the team because one simply doesn’t change the channel when Patrick Swayze is blessing your TV screen.” I said as he raised his eyebrow at me.
“I’ll try to keep that in mind,” he joked as we settled in to watch the movie under the stars.
See Jey knew my love languages and I loved that. He knew what mattered, it wasn’t diamonds and pearls, or even money. It was spending quality time, it was physical touch, and creating memories with the ones you love. Jey’s love languages were a mixture of my mine. He loved to please and do for those he loved.
He made sure every day to tell and show you how much you mean to him, and he only wanted the same in return and rightfully so.
“I’m glad you had fun and loved everything,” he said pulling me closer.
“I really did, and I hope you know I don’t just be hugged up with just anybody now,” I said as he looked down at me with a smile, catching on to what I was saying.
“Well, I don’t just do balcony picnics dates for just anybody either.” His lips close to mine as my heart pounded loudly against my chest.
“I have to warn you, I only do things like this with my man,” I whispered, as our lips finally meeting in a short, deep passionate kiss.
“And I only do things like this with my lady.” he moaned as our lips found each other once again as our kisses becoming more passionate by the second.
“For us,” Jey moaned against my lips as I whimpered against him.
“For us.”
“You sure?” He rasped pulling back slightly, watching me closely through low hooded eyes.
“I’m sure…I’ve never been sure of anything in my life,” I said as Jey caressed my face.
“Forever my lady,” he whispered as his lips descended upon mine as I felt like I was flying. We were finally here at last and it felt so good. Breaking our kiss to catch our breaths.
“Ma, we can wait…I-I don’t want to hurt you,” Jey moaned, his beautiful brown eyes growing darker as I moved his hand slowly down to the hem of my shirt.
“You won’t, I trust you,” I gasped as his resolve crumbling taking me in a searing kiss, only releasing me from his grasp to remove my shirt.
“Your so beautiful, he whispered in awe as I blushed under his powerful serenading gaze.
Like a moth to a flame, I craved his touch and trembled with anticipation as he towered over me. The pain in my chest a distant memory, laying on my back as Jey took his time exploring my body.
His powerful hands grasping mine, bringing them to his chest as I felt his heart racing.
“I want you to feel what you do to me,” he said licking his lips as I groaned, biting my lower lip as he thrusted my hips against his dick that was straining against his shorts begging for release.
His hands controlling every sensual buck of my hips against his dick as it continued to grow longer and harder.
“Mmm, I feel it,” I gasped, his lips capturing mine in an earth-shattering kiss as my hands anxiously helped him remove his shorts.
“Not yet aulelei,” he moaned grabbing my hands gently pining them to the bed. His kisses moved to my neck, my heart racing as he caressed my breasts, being careful of my bandage.
“Are you sure?” he asked again.
“Yes, please,” I pleaded entangling my fingers in his hair as he gently suckled at my breasts taking his time with each one giving them equal attention holding my gaze as I fought back a moan.
“Mm, you sensitive huh,” he whispered with a smirk as I blushed. His lips lovingly kissing and nibbling down my body, teasingly as I fought to get ahold of myself but I was gone…
“Jey, don’t stop,” I gasped, my body trembling in anticipation of what was next to come.
His eyes darkening as kissed the top of my mound gazing up at me with low eyes licking his lips as he descended lower. “I don’t plan too,” he whispered as I purred in appreciation.
Jey’s POV
Damn, I’m drunk…Drunk in love her intoxicating sent as I kissed the plush beautiful lips between her thighs, as Kara’s legs began to quiver.
“P- Please, Jey,” Kara as I groaned as I felt my dick get even harder.
"Fuck, all this for me aulelei? Tell me?” I moaned as her eyes met mine.
“Yes! Mmm, you know it is,” Kara gasped as I flattened my tongue and gently licked her slit, unable to stop the moan that rasped from my lips as the first drop of her sweet nectar coated my tongue.
“Mmm, I knew you’d taste like honey…. You done fucked around and created a monster, Ma,” I moaned, snatching her hips to my mouth as I swirled my tongue against her clit, commencing to drown in her.
“Jey, shit!” Kara gasped down at me in shock as I smirked. The beautiful catch in her throat as I pleased her had me on demon time. I needed more…Much more and only she could give me what I wanted.
“I- Mmm-” Kara moaned, trying to push my head away as I Ignored her plea intertwining our hands together, moving my tongue faster against her wet hot center.
“Stop runnin’, cause’ you deserve dis nut…..You understand me?”
Kara nodded, unable to speak. “Tell me you understand aulelei ?”
“I-I understand,” Kara whimpered as I moaned “Ain’t no stoppin’ Kara….Ain’t no stoppin’ till you nut in my mouth like a good girl,” I breathed against her pussy before going back to the task at hand.
“Fuck!..Oouu Josh, shit!” She moaned, her trembling legs over my shoulder as she sat up slightly panting in disbelief.
“Yea, you wit a real one now, moan my name baby. Damn, you makin’ my dick even harder just thinkin’ bout you nuttin’ in my mouth,” I confessed, knowing my words were encouraging her to get what she wanted…What we both needed.
“Mmm, I need it so bad,” Kara moaned moving her hips against my tongue. “Mmhm, so do I baby…. Dat’s it, you doin’ so good”
“Joshjoshjosh Mmhm!”
“Mmhm, get what’s yours. Fuck, you look so sexy chasin’ yo’ nut,” I moaned as she bit her lower lip, gripping the back of my head riding my face.
“Babe! Kara exclaimed as she exploded in my mouth. Her beautiful face and the swivel of her hips as she rode out her orgasm were a thing of beauty.
I couldn’t get enough of her as I greedily drank her essence with a hearty moan as she writhed on the bed trying to catch her breath.
Yea, I did dat…Fuck, I wanna keep her this way forever.
Crawling up her body, her flush face welcomed me as she grasped my Cuban link kissing me with urgency as I groaned nipping at her bottom lip.
“Mmm, you taste yourself?….You taste good, don’t you?” I groaned as Kara whimpered against my lips. Her trembling hand, reaching down between us grabbing my dick placing the tip at her entrance as I moaned trying to control myself.
“Mmm, tell me what you need,” I moaned, Kara pulling me closing whispering three words that made ignited an even deeper fire within me. “You inside me,” she gasped breathlessly as I gave in, her tight warmth surrounding me, welcoming me home.
“Shit, Kara,” I groaned trying to take my time knowing she was still hurt, but she was making it hard. I wanted to sink inside her and get lost.
“It’s ok,” she moaned, pulling me closer. A collective gasp of undeniable pleasure from us both filled the air as I filled her to the hilt.
Kara’s POV
The sweat gathered at his brow as he’s trying to maintain his composure slowly beginning to thrust inside me as I craved more. “Mmm, faster.”
“I don’t want to hurt you,” Jey moaned as I nodded not particularly caring, he felt so good, and I wanted him closer but I knew him.
“Your not,” I gasped as he gripped my hips gently once again surging forward as we both groaned at the sensation.
“I’mma take my time….Make love to you,” Jey whispered burying his head in the hollow of my neck, tilting his weight on his elbows, thrusting at a new angle that rendered me whimpering mess as he showered my neck with kisses.
“Damn, found my first spot,” he groaned as I began meeting his thrusts, feeling the pressure building with each caress, every lick and thrust we got lost in each other.
Something was different, this wasn’t sex like it was all those months ago on Roman’s bus. This was different, we were making love and it felt so good.
With each swivel of his hips, he went deeper and deeper, our lips meeting in a familiar dance as our tongues sensually stroked each other.
The smell of rain and the sounds of the waves crashing against the shore made the moment even more special.
Each second, body to body, skin to skin we climbed higher and higher together as Jey carefully rolled onto his back, shifting me onto my side, trying to take some pressure off of my chest but never stopping his gently thrusts.
A strangled moan escaped my lips at the new position as Jey wrapped one arm around my chest, the other placing one of my leg over his as I trembled in his arms.
“It’s just us…. Stop being shy, ma,” he rasped against my ear thrusting at a steadier pace.
“Mmm, you feel so good. I need it so bad, Josh!” I cried as he growled nipping at my neck as tears sprang to my eyes from the immense pleasure.
“I know baby, me too, I need you to cum for me…You gon’ give me what I want, ain’t you?”
“Yes! I’m close, don’t stop,” my desperate cries silenced as he grasped my throat bringing my mouth to his in a scorching kiss, as I writhed in need against him. His other hand to toying with my clit.
“You gon’ cum for me, like a good girl?” Jey asked already knowing the answer, his thrusts and breathing more uneven as I pulsed around him.
“Mmm,Yes.”
“Louder, Ma.”
“Yes! I’mma cum like a good girl, I promise,” I cried unashamed. He was dickin’ my ass down and it felt so damn good.
“Yea…Let it go, Ma. Damn, you so feel good,” he murmured against my lips.
“Josh! Fuck!” I cried coming undone in his arms. “Mmm, fuck yea look at you cummin’ just for me,” Jey praised pulling out, rubbing his dick against my clit. “Mmm, put it back in,” I begged truly drunk on him at this point, and I wanted all he had to give.
Jey’s POV
“Uh huh, I know baby, dat pussy quivering. You need some more of dis dick don’t you?” I groaned turned on as fuck as Kara reached down, moving my hand, grasping my dick rubbing against her clit before sliding the tip back inside her.
“Take what you want, I’m yours.”
“I want more,” Kara purred guiding my dick back inside her as we both gasped as we became one again….
“Fuck, yea…Put dat dick back in for daddy and get you another nut I moaned as we moved against each other in sync.
“I- I want you to cum now.” Kara whimpered against me as I felt a her tight pussy swallowing my dick like a champ. Fuck, I wasn’t gon’ last too much longer.
“Hold on, we both gon’ get this next nut together,” I groaned on a mission thrusting harder. “Josh- Wh-”
“Just breathe, ma…Let it take over, I promise its gon’ feel so good,” I whispered nibbling on her ear as I felt her relax. “Baby….Baby…Mm, Josh,” Kara gasped.
“Yea..I’m right here Kara, I got you.”
“What are you doing to me?” Kara groaned trying to hide her face but I refused to let her. Grabbing her chin, making her look at me.
“I’ll tell you what I’m doin’…..I’m makin’ love to the woman I love,” I declared, continuing to get lost inside her.
“I love you,” Kara moaned as our lips met in a sloppy kiss as she took my hand and placed it on her clit, and guiding my hand in a figure eight motion as she began steadily throwing her ass back on my dick to match my deep hard thrust.
“Shit! I love you more. …Now be my good girl, and cum for me…Fuck you doin’ so good, ma,” I moaned.
“Jey! Mmm, fuck!” Kara screamed as I felt her pulsing around my dick.
“Uh huh, I know it baby, I feel it.”
“Cum with me.”
“Can I cum inside you?” I groaned thrusting harder praying she would say yes. “Yes, I want you too Josh,” she whimpered as her head fell back against my shoulder in shock as she fell over the cliff of extasy, taking me with her as I groaned in triumph holding her trembling body against mine as I came and stilled inside her.
The sounds of the rain hitting the roof, along with our heavy breathing filled the night air. Neither one of us said anything for a few minutes, too stunned to speak.
“Damn, that was insane,” I whispered, finally somewhat regaining my composure as Kara rolled onto her back still trying to catch her breath.
“Best balcony picnic date ever,” Kara said with a relaxed smile as I gently kissed her lips.
“No regrets,” I whispered as Kara caressed my beard. “No regrets.”
Roman's House
Janice's POV
"Mama, I can't believe he posted this," Roman said as I leaned over his shoulder to look at his phone.
"Aww that was nice Joshua did that for Kara," I said as Roman rolled his eyes.
Mama-"
"What it's very sweet."
"What about the blanket hanging off the bed mama? He's being messy, in so many words sayin' he slept with Kara," Roman said as I frowned at him.
"Roman they could have been cuddling watching movies for all we know, but in the end, it isn't your business what Kara does."
"I know, but can people give me time to deal with what I lost? I lost my wife and now she's with my cousin." Roman said slightly raising his voice.
"Roman, Kara isn't going to put her life on hold to make you feel better. I had something to tell you, but I see you aren't in the right frame of mind to hear it right now." I said choosing to not pass on the new information I found out at Rebecca's today. He'll find out tomorrow like everyone else.
"No I'm not in a good head space, but I will be when I get some air," Roman said as I got up and stood by the kitchen door.
"No you ain't because you're going to end up at Josh's and I'm not letting you do that to Kara or yourself," I said putting my foot down.
"I just need some air, mama, please move," Roman pleaded as I refused to move.
"The last time you went out to get some air you ended up in Boston and could have got yourself killed, so no I ain't moving."I cried. Roman was at his breaking point, but he needed to get all this shit out. He was holding too much in.
"What do you want from me?!" Roman yelled as I pulled him into my arms giving him a much needed hug as his arms tightened around me.
"I want you to let it go, baby...Let that guilt go and free yourself, it's almost been a year." I said trying to get through to him.
"I lost her and I can't fix it," Roman said his voice breaking as rubbed his back. "Some things aren't meant to be fixed Roman...We just own up to our mistakes and take it one day at a time," I said as he pulled away wiping his tears.
"I know I gotta let her go, mama. My mind tells me that every day but my heart ain't caught up yet," Roman said sitting back down and looking at his phone.
"It will...Just give yourself time," I said as we heard Logan cry over the baby monitor.
"I got her, you went the last time," Roman said going to check on Logan leaving his phone on the table.
Picking it up I looked at Josh's post and smiled.
"Gon' head Joshua," I muttered truly happy that Kara was moving on and being loved how she deserved to be.
The thought of tomorrow suddenly crept back into my mind. I hated to disrupt the dinner tomorrow but I couldn't let this betrayal stay hidden.
Kara needed to know there was more than one enemy she needed protection from. I just never in my wildest dreams thought it would be her own mother.
Tomorrow Rebecca is coming clean or i'mma do it myself.
„Do you need anything else sweetheart?” Jay said squatting next to the sofa, his face plastered with genuine worry.
“Oww… Can I—can I take my meds now? Did you check the time?” You grimaced, trying to shift to a more comfortable position.
Jay quickly glanced at his watch, brows knitting together.
“Yup- you can. I’ll go grab them.” He stood up and headed towards the kitchen.
“JUST DON’T GO ANYWHERE!” he shouted once he left the living room.
“Oh, you’re sooo funny Todd.” You responded, as your upper torso sank back into the warm pillow.
He walked back in with your pills in one hand and a tall glass of water in the other.
“Here.”
“Thanks babe.”
Jay placed his hand on the small of your back and started rubbing your back to try and comfort you.
You closed your eyes for a moment, appreciating the comfort of his touch.
“Jay…” you said, your voice a little hesitant.
“I’m sorry, but can I ask you for one more thing?”
“’Course.” He straightened up, immediately attentive, his face softening.
“Ice bag?” you asked with pleading eyes.
“On it.”
“You’re the best,” you sighed, feeling both grateful and guilty for needing so much help.
Thanks to an unfortunate patrol the other week you were now stuck to your sofa with just half of working knees. One point for a hard landing, zero points for Y/N. Thankfully Jay was there to help you out after an ACL surgery.
“Here you go hun.”
You sighed in relief as the cold began to seep through, taking the edge off the ache in your knee. You finished your glass of water and handed it back to him. Jay placed it on the coffee table.
“Move your cute butt a bit.” He requested with a grin. You blink at him, too tired to figure out what he’s getting at.
“You can’t be serious…”
Jay snickered, shaking his head.
“Naah I’m kidding, don’t move.” Jay bent a little to plant a kiss on top of your head before he sat beside you. He chuckled slightly as he noticed the way you rolled your eyes at his remark.
With him sitting next to you, he gently tuged the blanket up to make sure you're cozy. Jay glanced at your exposed leg, his fingers lightly tapping on your hand. That was his usual way of asking to be held.
Your fingers intertwined with his, his rough palm grazing against yours. Your head fell to the side, leaning on Jay’s shoulder. His hair was still damp after a shower. The scent of his cosmetics mixed with his natural smell brought you much needed comfort.
Suddenly you straightened up, when you noticed your sleeve getting wet.
You glanced down at your arm and moved your gaze toowards Jay's. His dexcom sticker got wet and started leaking drops of water.
“You’re making me- wet babe.” you murmured, nudging him slightly.
Jay blinked all puzzled, then looked down at his arm and snorted.
“Oh—am I?”
“-- my bad pumpkin.” He apologized with a grin.
“Guess I didn’t dry it off.” Jay continued.
He playfully wiped your arm, not making it any less wet, earning a chuckle from you.
“No need to apologize, it’s not like I can be mad at my personal nurse.”
“Yeeaah you’re kinda right. What would you do without me, huh?” He leaned back, crossing his muscular arms.
“Not much, that’s for sure.”
Jay’s phone buzzed.
“Bruce?” you asked.
“Mr. Richard.”
“He’s asking if you’re still alive.”
“Sadly… wait what?”
“Wait what?” He furrowed his brow at your negative comment.
He placed his free hand on your uninjured thigh as he was responding to the message.
“Feelin’ any better?” His warm hand was sliding up and down your leg, as he was trying to comfort you.
“Yeah, a little.”
“Good.” He tossed his phone to the side.
“Do you need anything else?” he asked moving to the edge of your sofa. You grabbed him by his t-shirt, tugging him back towards you.
“No, no thank you. Please sit down for a bit. Do you feel like watching a movie or something?”
“Would love to, any ideas?” He took the remote and started looking through the channels.
“What about this?” he asked, motioning towards the TV.
“Perfect.” You sighed contentedly, leaning into him, your head resting against his chest. He wrapped his arm around you. His fingers started tracing gentle circles on your arm.
“Thanks for taking care of me-- I know I’m not the easiest patient.” You whispered weakly, looking up at him.
“You’re not so bad.” he said teasingly. You playfully punched his side.
“I might have to start charging you for my nursing services,” Jay chuckled, his arm tightening around your shoulders, carefully pulling you even closer to him.
“I know you love taking care of me, you’re a bad liar Jay.”
“I do, I do… now gimme a kiss.”
You happily complied.
Katsuki is so fucking sick of hospital rooms. He hates the heavy scent of antiseptic, the too-starchy pillows, the way the bed crackles every time he moves. He hates the white-popcorn walls that he’s forced to stare at through the haze of heavy medication. And he fucking despises the plastic tube shoved up his nose with the quiet, but constant, beeping of several machines keeping tabs on his vitals. Everything about it sucks. The only slightly redeeming quality about this particular hospital stay is that he and Izuku are sharing the same room. Apparently, after Katsuki’s tantrum the last time they both nearly died, the nurses figured it was best for everyone if Izuku was put directly in Katsuki’s line of vision. And so there he is, still knocked out in his hospital bed opposite Katsuki’s. Half his head wrapped in gauze, face swollen with purple bruises, he’s bandaged just about everywhere, but he’s alive. Katsuki is too riddled with pain meds to do much other than stare at him across the room. But at least Izuku is there, hooked up to a heart-monitor, softly proving that he’s still breathing. Which gives Katsuki’s battered heart some much needed relief.
Izuku still hasn’t woken up, though. Stupid, sleepy bastard. Always fucking sleeping when Katsuki is awake. How the fuck has Katsuki had three surgeries, one of them open-heart surgery, and he’s managing to flit in and out of consciousness, but Izuku is still out like a light? Katsuki thought Izuku swore to surpass him. Why the fuck does he think he can fall behind now? Katsuki scowls at Izuku’s tuft of fluffy green hair.
Wake up or I’ll kill you , Katsuki vows.
Katsuki knows he’s in love with him. He should have known a long time ago really, but having his heart burst put everything into stark clarity. He can’t deny it now. Not even if he wanted to. The next time Katsuki greets death, he will do so without regrets. There’s so much he needs to make up for; he still has so much atoning left to do. He has to show Izuku he will be better and do right by him. Izuku can’t fucking die before Katsuki has the chance to prove himself. Even if Izuku never loves him back, Katsuki must at least prove that he can be good. That he is worthy of standing at Izuku’s side.
Days pass and Izuku still doesn’t wake. Katsuki’s pleadings only get more desperate. Usually it’s just in his head, but sometimes, when it’s late at night and no one else is around, Katsuki will murmur to him aloud.
“You don’t have to forgive me,” Katsuki whispers into the oppressive quiet of their hospital room. Only the soft chime of Izuku’s heart-monitor answers him. “You don’t have to be mine. Just wake up. Don’t make me live in a world without you.”
Shadows dance as headlights stream through the curtains shading their window, and for a moment Katsuki thinks maybe--- but no. The car passes and Izuku hasn’t stirred. God fucking dammit. Katsuki doesn’t know why he’s surprised: of course Izuku can’t actually hear him. Tears prick at the corners of Katsuki’s eyes anyway.
It becomes a nightly ritual. Katsuki’s mind is too muddled with medication to make sense most of the time, but at least it gives him something to do. God, he can’t wait until he’s off all this shit and actually, you know, move and whatever. His arm was so bent and twisted when he was admitted that they had to implant metal poles to strengthen it, and fuck if it doesn’t feel weird. Recovery Girl comes by every day to heal him, bit by bit so as not to exhaust his limited energy, and there’s a quirk specialist flying out from the states to repair Katsuki’s damaged muscle. They have assured him that with time and physical therapy he should get all his mobility back, but it gives Katsuki little comfort. He would cut the whole damn limb off if it meant Izuku would just wake up .
“Please, for me,” Katsuki whispers, one night after a particularly exhausting round of visits from his parents, Izuku’s mom, and All Might. “Just this one thing. Just wake up. I won’t ask for anything else, just be okay.”
Katsuki must drift off. The concoction of sleep-aids and pain medications dragging him into unconsciousness against his will. He thinks he might be dreaming when he hears ragged breathing and a soft croaky voice.
“Ka— K’ch’n… Kach—”
Katsuki jolts awake, his heart-rate spiking and his head spinning. He can’t have— it couldn’t be—
“ Kacchan… ”
oh here’s another addison thought
reader and addison start getting on, reader helping and assisting in surgeries. reader isn’t an intern tho.
reader gets a feeling addison likes her, addison does but she is Scared™️
and then addison goes to LA :(
and reader goes to her, last ditch attempt. “why did you leave me?”
angsty.. i like it
why did you leave?
You were Addison’s fellow. You were in your final year of residency when Addison made her big entrance, and you stood idly by as you watched everything with Derek, Meredith and her go down.
As soon as your options for fellowships opened up, you made sure you were to study under the Addison Montgomery.
She was kind of rude to you at first, as she was going through the final stages of her divorce, but she did finally open up to you and let you in on surgeries. And then, the two of you were closer than ever.
You did a lot of the surgeries with her, led them too.
Addison and you ate lunch together almost everyday, because all your other friends ate lunch while you were in surgery, so Addison would offer to eat with you.
“But Callie is sitting over there. You should go sit with her,” You would shrug and take a seat in the back of the cafeteria.
“I can’t leave you alone,” Addison huffed and sat beside you. “Besides, Mark will sit with Callie.”
You smiled appreciatively, “Okay. Only if you want to.”
You’d also go to the bar with her, and sometimes even get dinner with her if your schedules aligned. The two of you even got together for Christmas and exchanged gifts. Mostly because neither of you had any blood relatives in Seattle, and found comfort in each other.
She got you a necklace, and you would play with it when you got nervous. Addison would notice and try to comfort you, but she was beginning to think it was her that did it.
“Stop,” She removed your hand from your necklace. “You’re going to make a mark on the back of your neck from tugging on that.”
You’d let out a breath, “Sorry. It’s just the nerves.”
“Oh?” Addison lifted her brows, sitting beside you on the abandoned bed in the hallway. “What’s going on today?”
“An old friend is coming down to see me,” You shrugged. “It’s not that big of a deal.”
“Sure it is,” Addison swallowed down the negative thoughts and her own anxiety. “How long did you know them?”
“It’s a she, and I knew her my whole life before I moved out here. She was actually my first kiss.”
Addison nodded, pretending to be busy with the hair tie on her wrist.
“Hey, listen,” Addison turned her head, and she thought she might have told you about her ongoing feelings, but something else entirely comes out. “I’m going to visit a friend in LA next week. Could you watch over my patients? You’ll work under another neonatal surgeon while I’m gone. It’ll only be a day or two.”
“Yeah, no problem.”
She was gone for more than two days, and she didn’t answer any of your messages while she was gone. She came back almost a week later and she was different.
Addison told you about how she met a guy down there and that she missed her best friend, Naomi.
You stood by and tried to be supportive, you smiled and pushed the jealousy down, because even though you didn’t want to, you felt the same way she did.
She was tanner than when she left, and her red hair was a lighter shade now.
“It was nice down there,” She told you. “I think you’d like it. Because you love beaches.”
Your heart throbbed at the fact that she remembered something you told her the first time she talked to you.
“Alright, I’ll see you tomorrow, Dr. L/n,” Addison threw her gloves in the trash.
She barely called you that anymore, but right then she did, and it hurt like hell. For some reason you didn’t believe you’d see her the next morning. And your hunch was right.. because you didn’t.
You didn’t even know what you were doing, honestly. You just got the urge to leave Seattle for a few days, and you took yourself to LA.
You were at a local market when you spotted her.
She looked amazing. She’d cut her hair, and it was now to her shoulders. She was still tan like she was when you last saw her, but her hair was back to her normal red color.
She looks at you, and you think she might not even recognize you at first. Because truth be told, it had been almost a year since she’d left, and she’d built a life for herself out here.
Or so you hear through Callie.
You look down at the blueberries you were messing with, suddenly trying to look busy.
“Y/n..” Addison approached you, but you didn’t look up. “What are you doing here?”
“Um..” Your voice shakes, and you’re not sure if you’re going to be able to talk. “I needed to get out of Seattle for a few days.”
“I know the feeling,” She chuckles.
The sound of her voice and laugh makes your body tingle from your head to your toes.
“I’m sure,” You say bitterly, picking up a carton of blueberries so you can hopefully leave this conversation behind.
She just follows behind you as you make your way to the vegetables, “So.. uh.. how are you? How’s— how’s Seattle?”
“I’m fine,” You shrug.
“Are you still working in the neonatal field?” You see her hoist her bag higher on her shoulder from the corner of your eyes. “Is that why you’re here?”
“No,” You grit your teeth. “I’m here because I needed a few days away from Seattle, I told you. I didn’t mean to drive here, I just put my brain on autopilot, and it brought me here. I didn’t even think about you being here until now, okay?”
Your voice is soft and it’s scaring you because you hold nothing but anger for Addison. So the fact that you’re speaking in a sweet tone..
“It was nice seeing you,” You attempt to get her out of your head again, but it doesn’t work.
“Do you wanna.. I don’t know.. meet for drinks tonight?”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” You clench your jaw, trying to keep yourself from saying something you know you’re going to regret.
“Y/n, look at me,” You hear Addison’s voice wavering like yours had only minutes ago.
You manage to pull your eyes away from the fresh produce and to her face, and it’s hard for you to look her in the eyes, but you manage.
Her hand comes up to touch you on the face, and when it does, you flinch at her soft touch. Your breath catches in your throat, and you have to swallow down the lump in your throat so you don’t start crying.
“Why did you leave?” Your voice breaks, and tears are beginning to fill in your eyes, much to your dismay.
“I needed a change of scenery—“
“No,” You all but growl, you sharply inhale and press your lips together. “Why did you leave me?”
Addison’s eyes flutter, and her own eyes fill with tears. You’ve struck her in a wound she was so desperately trying to heal.
“Y/n..” She wipes a stray tear with the pad of her thumb, her palm resting on your cheek. “I didn’t.. I didn’t leave you..”
“You did, though,” You try to turn your head, but her hold on you is soft and strong. “You left me, and I didn’t even get a goodbye.”
Next think you know, she’s pulling you into a hug, one of her hands now on the back of your head while the other snakes around your waist.
“I never meant to make you feel like that,” Her mouth is by your ear.
“It doesn’t feel that way,” You sob into her shoulder.
She pulls back, both her hands making their way to your cheeks, “I had feelings for you, Y/n. And I know it was immature, but— I— I was scared that you didn’t feel the same and I had to get out of there.”
As if your heart hadn’t broken enough times in your chest since this interaction had started, it somehow broke again.
“Addie.. I did— do feel the same. Didn’t you see?”
“I didn’t want to assume—“
You lean up and place a kiss on her lips, “Well stop assuming, and start living in the moment with me. This has been the worst experience ever. I hate the new head of neonatal, and I think she hates me too. I wish you would have just talked to me..”
“I will from now on,” Addison promises, staring into your eyes.
“What?” You smile softly, all of your pent up hate for her slowly melting away. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“You’re beautiful, am I not allowed to admire you?” Addison tilted her head.
“No, you can,” You draw your brows together in amusement. “I like it, actually. But you want something from me.”
“I want another kiss,” Addison shrugged, shyness in her tone.
You laugh, “You’re adorable.”
“Thank you,” Addison nodded. “Now come on, I have a lot of people to introduce you to.”
“There it is,” You throw your head back.
“Get to Med… Jay’s been shot.”
As she waits in the waiting room at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, the sound of her sergeant’s words echoes in her ears. Her heart is racing, her knee is bouncing, her hands are trembling, and dried up tear streaks run down her face. She feels like she’s been sitting in the room for an eternity, waiting for any news about her husband’s condition. He was already in surgery by the time she got at the hospital, which was a little more than two hours ago.
“Y/N!” she hears her partner, Kim Burgess, call out as she approaches her. When the brunette reaches her, she embraces her tightly.
After Jay and Y/N revealed their relationship to Voight, the two women became partners. They’ve been like sisters since they went through the academy together, and they got even closer after Y/N and Hailey Upton were transferred to Intelligence after Erin Lindsey left.
“Has there been any news?”
“I haven’t heard anything; Will just went to see if he can get an update,” she says before breaking down again. “I can’t lose him, Kim,” she cries into the shoulder of her best friend. “I can’t do it without him. We just got married. I can’t be without him.”
“Jay’s strong; he’ll get through this,” Kim reassures her as she rubs her back and squeezes her even tighter; it crushes her heart to see her best friend and chosen sister like this.
“Did you get the person who shot him?” she says, pulling away from Kim and angrily wiping away the fresh set of tears that are falling. The anger in eyes and voice wasn’t intended for her partner, or Adam who had been with Jay at the time of the shooting, or the rest of their team but at the guy who fired the gun at her husband and shot him. She begged Hank to give her five minutes with the person when they apprehended him, but Hank ordered her to stay at the hospital because that’s where she needed to be the most and swore he wouldn’t go easy with the guy.
Kim replies, moving to sit in the chair next to the one she was in, “He’s in custody. Voight’s making his life a living hell, I’m sure of it.”
She sits back down next to her and asks, “How’s Ruz?”
“He’s blaming himself,” Kim replies. “He’ll be here when he’s cleaned himself up, and the others will be here after they’ve finished with the interrogation.”
She nods, letting Kim know she heard her.
Minutes pass as they sit in quiet, Kim holding her hand and reminding her that she is not alone. Will eventually returns and informs her that there haven’t been any updates just yet before he leaves once more to grab them all some coffee.
Just as Will comes back with Adam following behind him, the surgeon walks into the waiting room.
As he approaches, Y/N and Kim get to their feet. As the doctor begins to talk, Will moves to stand next to his sister-in-law. “Surgery went smoothly. We removed the bullet, stopped the bleeding, and repaired the damage the bullet caused. Jay will make a full recovery, but he will need to take it easy for some time.”
Y/N exhales with relief, “I’ll make sure he does. Can we see him?”
“Two at a time,” the doctor says with a nod.
“Adam and I will go update everyone,” Kim says to her and Will before exiting the waiting room with Adam.
The doctor leads Will and Y/N to the room where Jay has been moved. Jay opens his eyes and looks sleepily at his wife and brother as soon as they enter the room.
“Oh, baby,” Y/N breathes as she walks over to his bed and takes his hand in hers, looking at him with tenderness. “Please don’t put me through that again.”
“I can’t make any promises,” he says drowsily with a small smile. He raises her hand and kisses the back of it.
“How are you feeling?” Will asks as he stands beside Y/N.
Jay jokes with a slight smirk on his lips, “Like I was shot.
Y/N scowls at him, not in the mood for jokes right now, and says, "Don’t joke.”
“You love me, and you know it,” he gives her a small smile letting her know he’s teasing her.
“I need to get back to work, but I’ll stop by after my shift,” Will tells his brother, stopping Y/N from that is retaliating. “I’ll make sure to bring you some decent food.”
“Thank you, Will,” she says as he exits the room. Looking back at her husband, she sits on the edge of the hospital bed, clutching his hand on her lap. “I was so scared I would lose you.”
“I’m not going anywhere,” he assures her. “We still have a lot to do together.”
She leans down and gives him a soft kiss while whispering, “I love you.”
“I love you too,” he replies as he kisses her again. “Now, come lie down with me.”
“You’ve just gotten out of surgery. I don’t want to cause you more pain.”
“They’ve got me on the good stuff, honey, and after what I just went through, all I want to do is hold my wife and remind her that us Halstead’s aren’t easy to take down,” he says and pulls her close to him, moving them so she can lay down beside him.
With his arm across her shoulders and her head on his, he presses a kiss to her forehead and whispers, “I promised you forever. I’m keeping that promise.”
Pain Relief
Tags - Giyuu taking care of his chronic pain gf, chronic pain gang wya? giyuu is best boyfriend, mentions of previous injury
There was an aroma of sea salts and aloe that had Giyuu hesitating where he stood in the front door. The lights around the apartment were off except the small lamp in the living room next to the chair you usually were sat in, curled up with the cat. Hazel sat on the chair, blue eyes blinking back at him as he turned to go to the bedroom, following the noise of the running shower. He dropped his work bag by the bedroom door and followed the soft melodies of the instrumentals you had playing from your phone. This was an occurrence that didn’t surprise Giyuu, but it hurt to know that you were in pain. The bath was usually your go to when you were dealing with a flare up, but this showed your exhaustion. It was something Shinobu had told the both of you would be a reoccurring pain. It could be managed, but you could have to be extremely careful. You tried, but your work ethic often had you doing more than you should. When you returned to work, taking a lower paying, part-time job that required less work, Giyuu was supportive. But since you left for work before he got home from patrol, he couldn’t be there to stop you from picking up extra shifts, spending extra days on your feet and irritating the nerves that had been damaged. He felt his heart ache at the thought of you in pain. The bathroom door was cracked, steam pillowing out of the bathroom. He knocked, only entering when he heard your soft ‘come in.’ You were sitting in the corner of the shower, your bare back turned towards the door as you leaned against the glass shower wall.
“Hi love,” you greeted, not turning away from the wall. He sat on the lid of the toilet, inhaling the shower steamer’s scent.
“How are you feeling? Do you want me to boil some water for your bottle?” You shook your head.
“No, I took some pain relievers. It’s not too bad. I just had to take a sower but didn’t feel like actually doing it.” He grunted in acknowledgment.
“when are you off?” “Tuesday and Wednesday, I work Thursday and then I have three days off”
He nodded.
“Time for some rest. Do you plan on picking up shifts?” you shook your head again, finally turning your head to face him.
“No, I don’t think I can. As much as I want to work and do things, I just can’t anymore. It’s been years since that fight Giyuu, years. My body will never be the same and I still can’t accept it” You moved, reaching to turn off the water. Giyuu was up in a second, unwrapping the towel you had placed for yourself, holding it open as you emerged to be wrapped in it. You gave him a soft smile. Even when you were exhausted, eye bags darker than yesterdays, movements slower and less powerful, you were beautiful in everyway.
“I’m sorry. I wish there was something I could do for you. I would take your pain away in an instant. I would make you a hashira again and personally tell you where to go, but I can’t.” You moved to sit on the stool in front of the sink, the same one you did your makeup on and brushed your teeth at night on.
“Did you eat?”
“M’not hungry,” you mumbled between toothpaste and water.
“So we’re ordering in. I’ll go look at what’s around. You get dressed and we’ll watch a movie. Do you have the good pajama’s?” You lifted the stack of clothing on the counter, the shorts and tank top set that came with a matching robe you loved. It wasn’t hot, but it was comfortable and easy to take off when giyuu’s body overheated. “Always ahead of me” Giyuu left after placing a kiss on your wet hair, wiping his lips with the back of his hand before he disappeared. If there was one thing Giyuu wished for in life, it would be to take over the mission that injured you. The surgery was tedious. You were bedridden for days before the surgeon deemed you strong enough to walk. The damage was too extensive for Shinobu to handle, plates and rods needed to be put in place of a couple of spinal discs. The team of surgeons were excellent, patient and informative as it came to recovery. The mental toll is what took the most from you. Demon slaying had been a part of your life since you were 14, training after school to join when you came of age. Your grandparents had been killed at the hands of a demon and after that, you vowed never to lose another person.
Straightening the sheets before changing out of his uniform and into something lighter, he turned on the string of lights you hung behind the bed and lit the candle you had been obsessed with. Giyuu shuffled around the room, straightening things before he climbed into bed and turned on the tv, going right to the pick of comfort movies you relied on when you weren’t feeling your best. He would let you choose which one as he scrolled through nearby restaurants that delivered. Maybe something sweeter? Breakfast for dinner? A warm stack of pancakes drizzled in syrup sweeter than necessary? Or maybe you wanted something spicy, to focus on the burn of your tongue rather than the pain in your spine and down your legs.
“How was work?” You emerged from the bathroom wrapped in your robe. The soft fabric made you look smaller, showcased the exhaustion in your body as you sunk into it. You didn’t remove it as you crawled in next to him, immediately tucking yourself under his arm and laying your head on his chest. It was small things that made him feel like the luckiest man, and being able to provide any comfort while you deal with these reoccurring pains makes him feel on top of the world.
“Nothing exciting. Rengoku leaves tonight to go south with Uzui. Something about a horde, something the two of them can handle easily.” You nodded, nothing exciting, reminding you that you weren’t missing the mundane. “Shinobu and Mitsuri say hi. They were asking me if I would ask you about a girls’ night. I don’t know why they go through me. They have phones. They know where we live.” You chuckled, you often joked that Giyuu was your own personal crow, he was always conveniently there when you needed to tell someone else something.
“It’s more fun using you.” He scoffed, lightly flicking your forehead before turning back to his phone.
“What were you thinking? I was looking at breakfast or spicy” you looked at both the options, scrolling through as he held the phone between both of you.
“breakfast sounds nice, Blueberry pancakes” He nodded, putting in order details and finalizing everything before putting his phone down. He pulled you closer, letting you entangle your legs with his own as he looked at movies.
“What about this?” The wind rises. It was an achingly beautiful story that always made you feel warm and fuzzy. You nodded, pulling the blankets up to your chin and moving it high enough on Giyuu that he was mostly covered. Your pain would never go away, and you would continue to manage it the best you could, but he was going to do everything in his power to make sure you never suffered alone. Giyuu Tomioka was determined to make you feel loved, safe, and comfortable until the day he died.
Caitlyn waiting for Vi to wakeup.
Warnings: Spoilers for Ep. 8
“She’s alive?”
The doctor looks surprised at her sharp, desperate inquiry. Caitlyn could care less about his opinions. For the money she’s throwing at him, he should have none. The doctor nods.
“Yes. She’s stable,” he continues, “they are going to clean her up—“
“No,” Caitlyn cuts in, “I’ll do it,” the doctor hesitates, “my father is a doctor,” Caitlyn reminds him sternly, “I know what not to touch.”
The doctor hesitates for only a moment longer before he nods. Someone leads her down a long hallway. Caitlyn reminds herself over and over that Vi is alive. Right now, that is the only thing that matters. It still takes her a moment to push open the door and step inside.
The room is silent except for the beeps of monitors and the hiss of oxygen. Caitlyn can categorize all the numbers. They are stable. Barely. But understandable for someone who has just come out of major surgery. She knows that but it doesn’t make it any easier to approach the bed where Vi is laying.
She looks like a stranger.
Tubes snake from under the blanket to carry away waste. One peeks out from her ribs and drains into a rust colored bag of fluids. Above her are more bags. Liquids, blood, antibiotics. They snake through the clear tubing and into her arm. All Caitlyn can think of is how much she would hate this.
Someone has left a tray with water and sponges. Caitlyn picks one up and wrings it out. She isn’t sure where to start. Brown antiseptic washes Vi’s chest, neck and face. It coats around the white bandage that wraps her head. There’s flecks of it underneath the oxygen mask that covers her face.
Part of Caitlyn screams that she has no right to do this. No right to touch her after she shoved her away. She’s spent as many nights cursing her as she has longing for her. What right does she have to touch her? But then Caitlyn thinks how much Vi would hate people seeing her like this. Vi trusted he enough to at least try to work together. Caitlyn focuses on that. Jinx is imprisoned, Vander is dead. She’s the closest thing Vi has to a friend. Even if she is a poor excuse for one.
She starts with her neck.
Underneath the black greasepaint is the pale, tattooed woman Caitlyn remembers—and it’s not. There are new muscles that coil under Vi’s skin. Vi has always been strong and spent most of her life existing on a diet of prison food. Now she is solid muscle. Caitlyn gently moves the hospital gown to wipe at her chest. She takes care not to disturb the tube that drains the damage from the Noxian spear.
She feels tears cloud her eyes as she works.
It feels like her fault that Vi is laying here. No, it is her fault. She went along with Ambessa. She wasn’t fast enough to outsmart her. The knot of anger that has been loosening in her chest unravels faster as she wipes Vi’s leg. The best she can tell Vi hasn’t been taking care of herself. Of course she hasn’t. Caitlyn wanted to hurt her when she dumped her there. Now she feels like a child learning her actions have consequences.
Before she can get to Vi’s shoulders, she turns to her hands.
They’ve cut off the bandages Vi always wears. It’s the first time Caitlyn’s seen Vi’s bare hands. She hasn’t been taking care of them either. Some of the marks on her knuckles are pink and bright, they are new. That cracks something new in Caitlyn’s chest. Vi’s entire life is in her hands. Literally and proverbially. And because of Caitlyn they are littered with half healed marks and patches of raw skin.
“Gods,” Caitlyn can’t quite contain the words, “I’m so sorry.”
She dabs at her knuckles. Anger has clouded her judgement for so long. All she has wanted is Jinx. But looking at Vi’s mangled hand, Caitlyn knows she would trade anything to undo this.
She slides a hand under Vi’s neck enough to clean the grease and antiseptic from her shoulders. Then her face. Until the only thing left is her hair. Caitlyn only hesitates a moment before she wipes the sponge across it. Of course the paint comes off. Of course it’s paint. Vi is right there under this hard shell. Just waiting.
She is such a fool.
She tucks the gown around Vi’s prone form and unfolds the blanket on top of that. She hopes Vi will open her eyes but she doesn’t. The puff of her breath against the oxygen mask and the beeps of the monitors are the only things that let Caitlyn know she is alive.
But she is alive.
Caitlyn doesn’t know why but she reaches into the cabinet and opens out a roll of gauze. She cradles Vi’s arm in her lap and winds it around the skin. Her forearms are the only unblemished part of her. Because they were locked around her sister as she covered her with her body. But Caitlyn wraps them anyway. If Vi wakes up she wants her to know someone thought of her preference. Even if she know Vi will be furious if she finds out it was her.
Caitlyn draws the blanket up and tucks it around one shoulder. Even though she can hear it on the monitors, she leans forward and places her ear against Vi’s chest. Her heart beats steady against Caitlyn’s cheek. Her chest rises and falls evenly. It’s a drugged sleep but Caitlyn closes her eyes and tries to match it. That way if Vi’s heart stops again, maybe hers will too. She hopes when she opens her eyes Vi will be looking at her. But she doesn’t.
Caitlyn lets herself look for just a moment. With the black paint stripped away, it’s the Vi she remembers who lays there. The Vi whose haunted her dreams since she left her. Everything in Caitlyn aches to touch her cheek. But she’s overstepped in so many ways. She settles for a press of fingers to Vi’s wrist before she forces herself up. She tucks Vi’s arm underneath the blanket and makes sure it is pulled all the way up.
There are a thousand things Caitlyn wants to say.
But words are cheap and Vi won’t hear them. She pushes the cart of cleaning supplies to the side and washes her hands in the bathroom. The greasepaint is stubborn under her fingernails. Even when she tries to scrape at it halfheartedly. She hates the dirtiness but it’s also fitting. Vi doesn’t deserve the stain, she does. Caitlyn allows herself one last look at Vi’s prone form before she leaves the room.
“Commander?”
“We’re going to the bunker to see the prisoner,” she says, “tell them to expect us.”
A/N: a lot of this is under the cut; I don’t think the trigger warnings quite cover it, so I’m just going to say dead dove, read at own risk.
“The red room is your home now.”
Natasha vomits into the toilet.
“You are property of the Red Room. You do what’s best for Russia. Now take off your clothes.”
Nauseousness invades and she vomits again.
“Don’t look away.”
She spits.
Looking at herself in the mirror, she punches it, knuckles splitting immediately and blood breaking through.
“Come on Natasha.”
Anya’s quiet voice breaks through her memories.
The other girl looks at her hand, grabbing some paper towel, she tends to them gently.
Slow movements as she pushes Natasha back to sit on the toilet.
“Don’t send me back there,” she pleads.
Pain radiates from her abdomen.
“They’ve left you here, it means you’ve recovered enough.”
Anya looks her over.
“Are you bleeding?”
Natasha looks at her hand.
Anya shakes her head.
“No, are you… bleeding? Is there blood in your underwear.”
Natasha’s heart skips, her face growing hot as shame and worry become overriding emotions.
“What?”
Anya helps her to stand. Checking her clothing for blood she seems satisfied; returning to asking more questions.
“What do you remember?”
Natasha can’t think, can’t hold onto memories or thoughts of the last couple of days.
“Taking my clothes off in medical. Being… being strapped down and wheeled into… surgery?”
Natasha coughs.
Waves of pain float over her. She feels so dizzy.
“What… what happened to me?”
Anya touches her forehead.
“You’re burning up. Come and lie down.”
Searing pain emanates and she’s paralysed in the moment.
It feels like an eternity. Nauseous, Natasha tries to take hold of the pain.
She recedes into herself and hears Melina’s voice.
“Pain only makes you stronger.”
She forces herself to breathe. It does nothing to help the pain that lances through her.
“What did they do to me?”
Anya wets a hand towel, and gives it to her to wipe her face.
She takes her hand half dragging Natasha back to a bed.
“Rest, they’ll be back for you soon, to check.”
Natasha’s eyes widen.
“What did they do to me?” she repeats.
Anya holds her hand, and in the moment, it’s the only thing that Natasha can tether onto.
“They’ve taken away your period. They’ve graduated you. If you survive the next week, then you’ll be sent to Chechnya.”
Natasha feels herself panic.
The temperature inside her flares, her mouth going dry and she can’t stop the vomit that erupts from her lips.
“I don’t understand,” she moans.
Anya nods.
“You will.”
Gently, she wipes away the vomit, the acidic smell makes Natasha hold her breath.
“Mmmsorry,” she mutters.
“It’s okay,” Anya says quietly.
“You’re okay.”
Natasha’s body hurts, her head pounds and the rolling nausea makes the world tip.
“Just stay with me,” Anya asks, “okay? They’ll be back soon, and you have to prove that you’re doing better than yesterday.”
Yesterday?
Natasha doesn’t remember.
“I don’t remember,” she moans, a fresh waves of pain pulsing through her. She can’t think.
“I don’t remember.”
Anya looks concerned, but quickly covers it with a nod.
“I’ll be back,” she promises.
“Don’t make me go back there,” she says to Anya’s back.
“Please?”
Anya keeps moving.
She finds another towel, and some ice.
Natasha looks around. The room is small, the bed, toilet and shower all in the space. The door is noticeably locked.
They’re still in medical.
The bed that Natasha lays on, has handcuffs hanging down on each side.
“When are they coming?” Natasha asks, wondering just how long she’s got to pull herself together.
“Soon, I will need to go soon, I’m not supposed to be here, but Natasha? Just do as they say? Okay? Whatever they say.”
Natasha frown.
“Here,” Anya tells her, giving her the ice to chew on.
“It will help you stay centred, even if only whilst they’re here.”
Anya, wets the towel again and places it on Natasha’s head.
With a slight hesitation, she leans down and hugs her.
“Stay alive okay?”
As quickly as the touch was there, it recedes. It reminds Natasha of Yelena’s hugs and she wants to cry.
She crunches down on the ice; Anya is right. It helps to focus her.
She’s left alone with her pain, and she waits.
Slowly she lifts her top to find two incisions on either sides of her hips covered by gauze and weeping blood.
Lifting her hand she bites down on it to stop the tears at the violation of her body.
Something; another thing taken without her consent.
She doesn’t know how long she lies there, the pain a constant companion; she stands, finding her legs shaking.
Unable to find any position that doesn’t hurt, she lays back down and closes her eyes.
“Pain only makes you stronger,” she repeats to herself; the mantra calming her rabbiting heart.
.
Dressed from head to toe in scrubs, masks on their faces they enter the room loudly.
Natasha wakes from uneasy sleep, masking her fear and surprise at their intrusion.
“Stand,” says the one on the right.
Natasha schools her face.
She can’t stop the tremors in her hands, but she can maintain an air of dignity.
She stands on shaking legs and they untie her hospital gown.
Natasha holds her head high, as they look over her body. She hates them.
Gloved hands touch her body and she suppresses a flinch at the touch.
She imagines ways she would kill them, from the scalpel that sits on the trolley to the side to the ease in which she feels she could strangle them with her gown.
“Get on the bed,” they order.
Natasha lays down, wanting desperately to cover herself.
“Do what they say,” Anya had told her.
The bed is cold, her body is hot.
They pull her arm away from her body and she tries not to resist; they stick a needle in, drawing blood.
Natasha suppresses a groan and then panic. She can feel her heart rate climb, another needle is pushed into her skin.
She feels whatever it is, cool through her veins.
Another vial of blood is taken.
Then another.
Natasha starts to feel sick. She tries to breathe.
Another needle is pushed into her skin.
“Stop,” she says quietly.
They ignore her.
“Stop,” she says again.
She tries to pull her arm away.
She quickly learns what the handcuffs are for.
They don’t take chances and pull it away from her body, securing both hands.
Natasha flushes, her heart rate rising.
She can’t breathe.
She can’t move her arms, her body hurts and they’re still taking blood.
“Let me go,” she asks.
They look at her with expressionless eyes, ignoring her.
“I’ll be good,” she pleads, hating herself.
“Let me go,” she asks again, “please?”
The last needle is hot in her veins.
She bucks against the handcuffs, feeling them cut in.
Dizzy, she can’t catch a breath.
Her vision blurs.
She doesn’t feel like she’s here.
She’s in Ohio.
She’s outside playing.
She’s riding her bike.
She’s…
.
Anya covers her.
Natasha feels a towel over her midsection and another one over her legs, her body shaking with cold.
“Mmmsorry, let me go,” Natasha says deliriously.
“I’ll be good.”
Anya looks at the hand cuffs, and pulls a hairpin from her hair.
“They’ll need to go back on when I leave.”
They swing open and Natasha pulls her arms in, hugging them to herself. She doesn’t even care about the immodestly.
Not anymore.
“What did they give me?”
She looks at Anya.
“I don’t know,” she whispers.
“I said, just do what they want.”
Natasha tries to sit up, the searing pain doubles even as she pushes through it.
Anya steps forward to help and steady her, warm hands touching her shoulders.
“Your skin is hot,” she observes.
Natasha can’t take it in.
“Help me to the toilet?”
Anya almost carries Natasha, helps her with her underwear and pulls her hair back off her face.
She wipes Natasha’s face and aims for a halfhearted smile as Natasha looks up.
“Thank you.”
Anya waves her off.
“Yesterday was me, today it’s you, tomorrow you help someone else. It’s a circle.”
Natasha hates the Red Room.
She hates medical even more.
She feels almost certain that she couldn’t do what Anya was doing for her.
“I can’t,” she confesses, “I wouldn’t know how.”
Anya smiles sadly.
“You’d know, just be kind,” she replies simply.
She offers a new gown, and dresses Natasha easily.
She looks at cuts on her wrists and the healing knuckles from the mirror the day before.
“I think they gave you some serum to help you heal,” she guesses.
Natasha shivers.
She just feels numb.
“How long can you stay?” she asks quietly.
“We have some time,” Anya replies, turning Natasha to the side, she starts to braid her hair.
“He could have. Luckily he wasn’t near the vehicle.”
“If he had…” Chris mumbles. “I would have wasted all that time.”
Buck surges with guilt. Fear. What could have been, if he hadn’t chosen carefully. He needs to be incredibly careful, moving forward.
“You can’t think that way, Chris,” Buck says. “This isn’t your fault, and you couldn’t have known. The important thing is that you’re both together and okay now, right?”
Chris shrugs. “I feel really bad.”
“You know your dad isn’t mad at you, right?” Buck asks.
Chris nods. “We talked about it this morning.”
“Then you’ve gotta trust him, Chris,” Buck says. “It’s all going to be okay. You’re both going to move forward.”
“With you?” Chris asks.
Buck’s heart tightens. “Yeah. With me. You know you guys can’t get rid of me.”
“Good,” Chris exhales.
“No one’s going anywhere,” Buck promises. Ironic, considering Chris was the one who left. “I promise.”
⚖️
Luckily, the damage to Eddie’s leg isn’t too bad. He won’t need surgery or any serious intervention. Some time in a brace, and he should be as good as new. They have him on some strong pain meds that make him a little loopy. He sleeps most of the drive back to Los Angeles, spread out in the back seat for his knee.
“I love you both,” he murmurs before he falls asleep. “You’re both the best.”
Chris chuckles under his breath. “Dad, you’re high.”
“No…” Eddie yawns. “Haven’t smoked pot since I was seventeen.”
“Wow,” Buck says as Christopher bursts out laughing.
And Buck starts to feel sort of at ease again. Sort of.
⚖️
It’s late by the time they’re home. Really late. Buck helps Eddie into the house and into bed while Chris sort of lingers. Looking at everything. His room. The photos on the wall. Buck’s not sure how to process the expression on his face.
“He didn’t change anything,” he whispers to Buck when Buck emerges to grab Eddie a glass of water.
“No,” Buck says. “He didn’t.”
“Why not?” Chris asks. “I tried to change lots of stuff.”
Buck nods. “Did it help?”
Chris shakes his head.
“Then maybe neither of you was trying the right thing,” Buck shrugs.
Chris inhales deeply. “Yeah. You’re probably right.”
Buck smiles. “Do you need anything before bed? Anything I can do?”
He’s already carried Christopher’s bags in and changed the sheets on his bed to something fresh. He wishes Eddie were up for a proper goodnight, but he’s in and out of sleep, more or less zonked. Not that Christopher blames him, Buck knows.
“No,” Chris says. “I’ll come say goodnight to Dad. Then I’m okay.”
“Okay,” Buck says. “A-and Chris… I know I’m not… But I’m super proud of you. You know that, right?”
Christopher’s mouth scrunches to the side. Just like Eddie’s sometimes does.
“Thanks,” he replies, voice thick with emotion.
After Chris says goodnight to Eddie and goes to sleep, Buck finds himself sitting on the edge of Eddie’s bed. His eyes are sort of drifting open and shut.
“Cool if I crash on the couch?” Buck asks.
“No,” Eddie says. It sounds a little bit like a whine.
“Oh,” Buck frowns. “I mean, yeah. Okay. I-I can head home, b-but we left the Jeep at my place, so-”
“Stay here,” Eddie all but orders.
“Uh, here? In bed?”
“Yeah,” Eddie murmurs. “It’s better.”
Buck smiles. “Okay. Yeah, you’re right.”
Buck fishes his pajama pants from his bag and quickly changes into them. He climbs into bed beside Eddie, careful not to move the mattress too much and hurt his knee. He keeps a wide berth for that same reason. He doesn’t want to kick him in the night.
Eddie yawns a little then grimaces at Buck.
“Do I smell or something?” He asks.
“No!” Buck laughs. “What?”
“You’re about to fall off the bed, Buck. It’s okay. You can tell me if I smell.”
“I don’t want to bump your leg, dummy,” Buck rolls his eyes.
“Well, then lie still. But closer,” Eddie commands.
Buck sighs, but shifts closer to Eddie. “If I hurt your leg in the night, it’s your fault.”
“‘Kay,” Eddie agrees.
“Goodnight, Eddie,” Buck mumbles, reaching to turn off the lamp.
“Not yet,” Eddie says as the room goes dark.
“Not yet?”
“No,” Eddie says. “I need to thank you.”
“No, you really don’t.”
“You saved me, Buck.”
Buck chuckles. “Uh, I helped carry you up a hill.”
“No. Not that part.”
Oh. Oh he means the rest of it.
Buck swallows tightly. “Come on, Eddie. You know I’d do anything for you two.”
“I do. I know that. That’s… That’s why I have to thank you. It’s important.”
“Well, you’re, uh, you’re welcome. Anytime.”
“Can I ask you something?” Eddie keeps going.
“Man, how are you not asleep? You couldn’t keep your eyes open like five minutes ago.”
“What did you see?”
Buck inhales sharply. “For Christopher?”
“No,” Eddie says. “For Tommy. About me.”
Buck makes a small, uncomfortable sound. “Oh, Eddie…”
“Please,” Eddie says.
“It’s uncomfortable,” Buck warns. “And you’re on drugs.”
“I’m feeling clear headed,” Eddie says. “Really.”
“I don’t know…”
“Please,” Eddie presses again. “I need to… I need to know if it’s what I think.”
Oh. Okay, then. This is what they’re doing.
“Uh, wh-what do you think?” Buck asks.
“You have to tell me if I tell you.”
“Fine.”
“Fine.”
“Okay, go then!” Buck pleads, because he needs this to end.
“Trivia night?” Eddie asks.
“Yeah,” Buck confirms.
Eddie exhales shakily.
Buck gets nervous. More nervous.
“We don’t have to talk about-”
“It’s okay,” Eddie cuts him off. “Uh, I don’t remember it all. Or clearly.”
“Yeah, I, uh… I gathered as much,” Buck mumbles. “It’s fine.”
“I don’t know why I told him, but I told Tommy I wanted to kiss you, I think?” Eddie asks.
“Yeah,” Buck whispers. “He… You told him because he was trying to get you to kiss him. While you were plastered.”
