ultimately i think the appeal of daniel and armand to me is that it's very much a typical dark romance storyline where the heroine is kidnapped and tortured by an evil monster but using her wits she manages to seduce him and make him emotionally vulnerable to her, because she is More Special and More Clever than all of his other victims, and because of this she enjoys a level of dangerous favor and protection from him, except in This version of the dark romance it's two toxic old men who both have the worst fucking personalities imaginable. who truly just fucking suck beyond measure. like no pun intended, they are Garbage, one is the actual literal immortal devil and the other is just kind of a deadbeat with no moral compass, neither of them is willing to work on himself and neither of them has ANY reason to want to rail the other as bad as they do.

how do you think this expedition au would end?

Oh maaaaan ;; I think the ending of this one would be bitter sweet but technically the bad ending ;;

Cause the group is never able to leave cause they can’t be cured. One day a cure will be found but likely not during their lifetimes ;; (and this is likely a long time, I can see their lives prolonged and then having no idea how much time has passed) They are able to keep their sanity but their bodies are forever changed and cannot exist outside of the infected area, so they low key want to expand the barriers but also don’t want to turn on human kind. (No longer viewing themselves as humans ;; it becomes too far removed) But all of them becoming large ‘hunter’ versions of themselves. Like there is normal hunter large and then there is what they are here, very large. (I need to figure out a Hunter form for Frederick honestly) So da capo is together alive, but forever stuck within the bounds of the changed area , with the crew going into hibernation like states but can be easily woken up, except for Frederick. But a minimum of a decade down the line I can see Naib rolling in with another crew trying to find and see what happened to the lost team, only to find them massive like the rest of the changed creatures here and transformed in their unique ways. -With Norton all Fool’s Gold with his rocks, usually found sleeping leaned up against the mountain side, blending into it pretty darn well. -Alice with her feathers, usually curled up in a nest of trees -Melly being the queen of the insects here and looking like it, usually found buried under flowers, cause flowers bloom wherever she rests, making the insects happy. -but Frederick is usually in a coma like state, laying on his side, and hasn't moved since the day he was transformed, so nature here is overgrowing all over him (this is happening to the others as well, but since they wake up and move it’s not as ‘over taking’), but Frederick only wakes up here and there, every 3-5 years, complaining of a ringing sound that no one else hears (but when Naib shows up he will wake up and be alert for the first time since his transformation) and then there is -Orpheus, ever the problem that the other three (who can wake up easily) keep needing to deal with, to keep him from expanding the boundaries and trying to drag more people in. He doesn't sleep nearly as much and just tinkers in the dark underground system he is putting together, putting plans in motion. Goodness, the image of Naib scanning an area from on top of a rock only for it to move under him and it starts raising from the ground, lifting up Naib to a freshly opened glowing white eye. Leading Naib to look at what the HECK is he standing on and sees it’s a bunch of rocks in the form of a back of a hand. Norton/FG: “how cute….our little rescue crew has arrived….” Naib: “????????????”

I am tired of pretending Uravity is not one of the greatest heroes of all time and she initiated most of the good changes in society.

Her whole character arc truly began when Night Eye died while she was the one who brought him out of Overhaul's underground maze. This is the moment where the whole "who will save heroes" ideal was cemented in her character. I have seen many people Say that this part of her personnality is a little naïve and came from nowhere, but it takes basis in her pure kindness and empathy. It got cemented by experiences and failure to save people but mostly heroes.

Her speech at UA to let Izuku rest permitted people to think more of heroes as human beings too. She put emphasis on how saving people and fighting are heroes' responsibility and not civilians' but they should also have the right to be treated fairly like human beings during tough times. Her speech is what moved people to take the first step towards each other. Nezu qualified this step as the most difficult and hardest one to take, but Uravity closed this gap and successfully invited people to do it. It was a Big first step for a better, more understanding and fairer society.

And after the timeskip, she created the alter counselling agency, to help people understand themselves and their alter better. All under the basis of better understanding and open-mind.

And I hate that all of what she does is widely interpreted as a "romantic" gesture to save the MC. Of course she would never abandon Izuku not any of the 1-A 'cause they are her Friend. And as a genuinely kind-hearted person, she would always help them.

Also, there are heroes who win and there are some who save. But a type of heroes that are Always a little bit forgotten yet bring great impact into society are the heroes who sustain hope and actively create a better future. And that is Uravity. She is a winner, she is a savior, but most of all, she is Hope, she is a hero.

I know silvergifting is huge (and it has very much grown on me) but I think about the whole "Annatar went to Gil-Galad first and Gil-Galad and Elrond said hi your vibes are RANCID. Leave." basically daily. Like Tolkien says that and then never elaborates. How long was he there for? Was it like an instant thing (I have that in Tinuvion), or was he there for a while trying to wheedle his way into court? There is just so much potential for some interesting interactions here, which I am planning on exploring quite soon.

In any case what makes me insane about them is:

If we apply the transitive property to Arwen = Luthien and Arwen = Elrond then Elrond = Luthien in terms of looks. He is also Luthien born again. Which would freak Sauron the fuck out.

Okay but is he freaked out or turned on or fascinated? Part of me wonders if he would know whether or not he wants to fuck Elrond or kill him. There's a score to be settled here, he's just figuring out how he wants to go about it.

Something something Elrond could be king if he wanted to but he is intentionally subordinate to Gil Galad. Something something Mairon-Aule something something the temptation of Mairon. Something something "but you could be so much MORE. So much BETTER than him. Don't you want that? I could teach you so many things." something something mairon-morgoth parallels. (a theme which I very much like to continue with Silvergifting)

Does Elrond know this is a maia he's talking to or does he just know that he feels familiar? That something about him doesn't quite fit into this world in the same way that Elrond doesn't quite fit? Does he recognize part of himself in Annatar and wonder why? Is it something he hasn't felt since Elros left the world?

Does Annatar not realize at first who Elrond is, or not realize that the line of Melian and Luthien has diluted so little over the years? Is he taken aback by that spark of divinity and does some part of him want to refine it like gold in a furnace? To make something out of him? To turn Elrond into one of his greatest creations? To, perhaps, wake him up the way Morgoth woke him?

To perhaps feel less alone in this post-Morgoth world where he is cut off from all the others of his own species and can NEVER go back? To feel that connection to his own kind again? Does some part of him wish for Elrond to somehow be his redemption?

Ah, but the score to be settled with Luthien. No, no, what on earth is he saying? Let's come back to focus. He wants to break him.

Hugs make people feel better. Buck likes his friends, and he wants them to feel better. Buck, therefore, needs to hug his friends.

Look, he’s not naive enough to think that a couple of hugs are going to change the universe, okay? He knows things don’t work like that. But he can’t exactly build Bobby and Athena a new house, and he can’t bring Christopher home to Eddie, and he can’t take away Denny’s injuries or Maddie’s morning sickness. 

What he can do is brighten their days however he can. So Buck brings by baked goods, offers his services as babysitter, and he gives them hugs. That much, he can do. 

He starts with Chimney. Well, technically he starts with Maddie and Chimney, but he already hugs Maddie pretty much every time he sees her, so he’s already doing pretty well on that front. Chim gets a hug sometimes, and other times they just wave or fistbump or whatever. Well, not anymore. Ever since Buck saw that calendar fun fact, he’s been holding his arms open for Chimney just as wide as he does for Maddie, and he folds himself around his brother-in-law like a human shield.

I don't have 100% of the language figured out or anything and it is very much a work in progress (i tend to iron out + develop new things as i need them), but it- like all languages- is very tied into the culture of its speakers!

here's one of my personal favourite parts, the 'Reverse Possessive':

my version of Starspeak lacks pronouns and has limited possessives: one for yourself (ei), one for someone who you are actively addressing (eu), and one for Anyone/Anything Else (ey).

if you needed to refer to someone else in particular you would use their name, rank, or a relationship designator. Celestial culture is extremely hierarchal and formal relationship designators are very precise, which means they are quite varied and can work almost as titles or second-names

with only one word for all versions of a possessive, the location of it impacts the entire function of a phrase. to explain this I'll use a word I've previously introduced, Vaýtita, which also happens to be a relationship designator.

you could use this word on its own, like a name, though very commonly it is used with a prefix possessive; ei Vaýtita (my Vaýtita). you could also refer to someone else's gravity the way you might refer to a spouse or partner, eu Vaýtita or ey Vaýtita (your Vaýtita // its Vaýtita).

reverse possessives function a little differently, and usually tie into hierarchy. in Starspeak using the suffix -ei translates best to "which possesses me."

so when adding it and making Vaýtita-ei, the Vaýtita is put into a position of possessing the speaker, and it translates as the Gravity which possesses me.

you would only really say it this way if you were insanely fuckin' serious about the person you were referring to, because it implies that you are wholly and completely consumed by this force in your life. there are however other designators where it is much more common to use a reverse-possessive to identify that you are, in terms of relationship hierarchy and responsibility, deferent to that person

for instance, a powerful central rank of a Star System, Ílioz (the Sun) is quite frequently used with the reverse possessive by all orbiters or lesser stars. they would say Ílioz-ei (the Sun that possesses me) out of respect and/or love and/or fear

you could similarly add the suffixes -eu or -ey if you knew the formal relationship of the person/s you were referring to (ie: Ílioz-eu, the Sun that possesses you), or even derogatorily

this is getting long so i will wrap it up here, but if you'd like to know anything else please please ask!! i obviously delight in talking about it and could go on for paragraphs more, i just don't want to make too huge of a text wall! but i would be more than happy to answer any other queries about any words or specific phrases or grammar or so on!!

Dude, I gotta tell you how much I appreciated your cottagecore update. Honestly, it was just what I needed today. Any time I see an update from you, instantly i'm just ~~~my crops are watered, my skin is clear, my headache is evaporated~~~ Instant balm, Aquaphor for the soul.

I also love how you're blending the lovey aesthetic ~cottage~ material with the -they live in a shack in the woods and nature has a hit out on their lives- material. That's why hurt and comfort go so well together; you really need one for the other to make its fullest impact, and you've got that down pat. Mmmpf, it's the endurance, and the grit, and the perseverance- so inspiring!

(Also, as an additional aside, your style of writing to me is proof that you can be both poetic and characterized and elegant- and succinct. Important stuff for an overly wordy bug like myself.)

The cottagecore setting is actually pretty convenient, as writing goes, because it's historical + magic, which means I can make things exactly as easy or as difficult as I need to depending on what the narrative calls for. We get a little bit of sitting cozily before the fire with your embroidery and your whittling, and we also get bedpans and moldy hay.

I especially appreciate your comment about my writing style, because I honestly feel like I don't have much of one! I am not very poetic, by nature, and most of what I write feels very functional. Brevity it always something that I am striving for, though. A lot of my writing process is typing things out, reading it, and then finding a shorter way to say it.

Who else would you think would be part of Naib's team?

OOOOOOOooooooo~ I have been wondering myself 🤔

So far the idea is:

-Naib Subedar: the leader of the group. Doesn't particularly know much about this 'cursed' area, just knows how to track, retrieve, and get out. And fight if needed, but not expecting to find anyone alive in there by now. -Emily Dyer: the medic of the group and needs to collect blood samples of any wildlife that is found and is tasked with gathering the bones from the last expedition, all those years ago, to test them. They of course end up not finding their bones since the last team are 'alive' pff, but she will get bone pieces from the other creatures and test them there and be shocked by their biological make up. -Luca Balsa: He is the only one familiar with this place from his studies and fascination with the theories of what happened to the first crew that entered this place, and is there to find any electromagnetic readings and see if there is a way to start reversing the effects or just keep the barrier from spreading. Its been mostly contained since the first expedition, but the threat that it could begin spreading at any moment is still there. and also bombs, he makes electrical bombs PFF -Martha Behamfil: Is playing the part that Frederick did. The sharp shooter that keeps the group safe. She will end up finding his old rifle and be fascinated how old it is and still works so well, and will find that it works better than her personal one against these creatures. Which solidifies her theory that no one knows what is actually going on in here and the weapons they created hardly work at all, in here. "We've been set up to fail, just like they were.."

I feel like there should be someone else but I am not surrreee whooo

But they have the typical survival kits and rations and all that fun stuff, and were allowed a horse to help carry the extra equipment that Luca and Emily need. So their frustration would be palpable when they loose the horse 🙃 after it runs off (and ends up finding Melly to hang out with her lol So the horse did its job technically carrying the equipment to the place the first expedition is PFF)
