シュミット／ローゼンバーグ『How Google Works』（日本経済新聞出版社）

グーグルの "how"、すなわち「グーグルは『いかに』働いている／（グーグルとして）機能しているか」を紹介した本である。だから、この本を読んでもグーグルのプロダクトやサービス、『ジェフベゾス果てなき野望』がアマゾンについて語ったような "who" や "what" は分からない。

グーグルのプロセスやツールについて学んだら、ぼくたちやぼくたちの職場がグーグルみたいになるだろうか。そういうものではないだろう。たとえばこの本は採用についていろんなことを書いているが、現にある企業文化を度外視してこの本の採用技術を導入しても成果は上がらないだろう。

だから、冷静になったときこの本から学べることはとても一般的なことに限られる気がする。たとえばこんな感じだ。有益だが、ものすごく一般論である。

どんな分野でも、他の人々に一歩先んじる最高かつ最も簡単な方法は、それについて知識を深めることだ。最適な方法は、文献を読むことである。忙しくてモノを読む時間などないと言う人は多いが、それは自分の仕事について知識を深めることを重視していないと言っているのと同じだ。自分の仕事について、誰よりも多くの資料に目を通しているのは誰か、ご存じだろうか。経営者である。だから経営者的な発想に切り替え、資料を読もう。

もうひとつ、「自分のいまの仕事を客観的に説明しろ」というのがある。グーグルではOKR（Objectives/Key Result）と読んでいるらしい。社会的にひとの協力あるいは助力を必要としている人はSNSでの自己アピールの指針になるだろう。

もう一つ、透明性の具体例といえるのがOKRだ。OKRとは個々の社員の目標と主要な結果である。すべての社員が四半期ごとに、自らのOKRを更新してイントラネットで公開することになっており、他の同僚がどんな仕事をしているか簡単にわかる。社内で会った人物がどんな仕事をしているか詳しく知りたいと思ったら、Moma（引用注：グーグルのイントラネット）に行ってOKRを見ればいい。単に肩書と仕事内容の羅列ではなく、取り組んでいる仕事、大切に思っている仕事を自分の言葉でまとめたものだ。その社員が何にモチベーションを感じるかを確かめる一番手っ取り早い方法だ。

I have had these thoughts bubbling away in my head for like...eighteen months or so now (it will become very obvious why shortly) but the discussion in this post has pushed me to write them down: I think societally we HUGELY underestimate how motherhood for primary caregivers, particularly first-time motherhood, can be a source of vulnerability to radicalisation.

There is obviously huge cultural variance here, but for a lot of cis women becoming primary caregiver to an infant in a capitalist Western society represents a time of immense vulnerability because in general you are:

Incredibly sleep-deprived (which has well-documented knock-on effects for your judgement, mental health, etc)

If you gave birth, recovering from a significant challenge to your physical health (even in the best-case scenario)

Isolated from your previous networks and communities of people in full-time work

Completely separated from the context of your prior career goals and achievements

Under huge amounts of stress to learn how to care for an infant (don't get me started on breastfeeding)

And on top of this, you are also be experiencing a huge amount of messaging about how all this is natural, wonderful, something you're meant to do, something you should love doing, and something that you must do for the welfare of their child. It's a huge amount of pressure and life change even when everything goes right and there's very little cultural space to express negative feelings about it.

Any group of people who offer community, support, and affirmation to cis women in this situation are going to have a really good shot at radicalising them into some very weird and dangerous headspaces and in fact we see this happen all the time - think antivaxxers and TERFs. It flies under the radar because of the hazy positive glow that associates with motherhood and babies and also because we don't take the radicalisation of women seriously I guess because they rarely shoot anybody, but...yeah. It is such a vulnerable time!

I just wanted to draw them being cute and seizing a sliver of a moment where they could have some PDA silly time without actually having any eyes on them. They're public figures and working adults with very clear boundaries between public persona and private life (to varying degrees of "in a sad way"), so while it may be in Aventurine's nature to constantly blur lines for various agendas and self-preservation (read: play "the flirt" without an aligned goal), I believe that in an actual relationship they'd be fairly private.

It's kind of fun to break your own rules, though! Ratio would be more upset about the consequences, though. He's a little bit of a hypocrite, which is devastating for someone of such discipline, but nobody's perfect.

I'm of the mentality of, "If you're tired of working on it, then just post it!", so here are some fun peripherals that I didn't feel like adding:

So! I’m back to my usual fuckery, trying to make hand made figures instead of buying them like a normal human being. This time I’m making First Aid! Out of some action toy and plastic sheets because apparently rebuilding Gundams wasn’t hard enough

My starter pack is some white and red styrene sheets + the figure I bought off the shelf. I think these are called “Dummy 13”? Anyway

Drift figure left me with a lot of little cuts. Now I have cuts aaand burns. Nice deal~ I’ve never done anything like it before and my hands aren’t happy lmao

This thing is. Like. Super movable:D It’s neck has two joints, also it’s torso can bend in a bunch of places and ways. Even the tippy toes are movable hehe

Basically. I couldn’t paint anything bc. Well. Winter. So I decided to build out of details that are already the right color👍

It will probably need some painting anyway but not the dramatic amount and not enough to poison me

Dp x dc AU - If the Internation Space Station orbits the Earth 16 times a day, then so does the Watchtower.

Danny’s on track to move out of his parent’s house and move to Gotham for college (He swears that Sam bribed the board to let him in- and she wasn’t even going to that university!) but the dorms don’t open for another three days and he cannot wait to escape. Seeing his parents try to perfect yet another weapon to use against him while he changed out the ecto filters on the portal was too much. He’s completely over the idea of staying when he already has everything packed and ready to go.

The solution? Take all his boxes into his haunt in the Ghost Zone, leave them there and then spend some time in camping in space. He’s already explored the Infinite Realms enough to be bored of it for a minute (not to mention he wants to avoid getting more ‘favors’ to do from Clockwork) and hell, he just wants to see some stars.

He grabs his tent, a sleeping bag and all the food and things he could need and brings it into the atmosphere with him. Keeping it all tethered to him, Danny stays in a fixed position above Gotham (Cause that’s where he’s going next, duh) and treats himself to some quality Me-time.

Only problem is that several times a day he has to make himself intangible while he lets satellites and things pass through. Easy enough and honestly pretty interesting to observe as a wannabe engineering student.

He doesn’t know when exactly it happened the first time- but it turns out the Heroes of Earth all congregated in a satelite office building? It was bigger than the ISS! What the heck!?

Going intangible but not invisible, the JL spot Danny and are incredibly confused how an ‘Alien’ teen just happens to appear in their meeting rooms disappearing at the rate (slowly but surely) of the Watchtower moving through space. Was that camping gear? How was he roasting a marshmallow? Did propane camping stoves even work in space??

16 times a day they get the opportunity to ask Danny a few questions. He mostly ignores them or gives them joke answers. Eventually Martian Manhunter phases through the Watchtower to join him.

They talk about how hard transition periods in life can be and having strained relationships with family. J’ohn returns to the watchtower on its next cycle and reports that the kid is just fine, being an adult is just a hard thing to do.

Genuinely amused when people who don't know anything about Christianity try to draw on it as a source for their fantasy -- "Oh this is my half-demon OC who takes damage from holy things and is stuck in a church, better hope that communion wine in the back doesn't spill anywhere!" Apropos of nothing, here's my personal headcanon in regards to Mario and Luigi's surname.

Now, it's been generally announced and accepted that the brothers' last name is "Mario," shackling them with the somewhat awkward full names of "Mario Mario" and "Luigi Mario." My take on this is that the family's original last name was "Marianetti" (likely coming from the more common "Marinetti"). This name was changed to "Marionetti" when the boys' grandmother came over from Italy. (A common occurrence in record keeping at immigration at the time. Someone probably had bad handwriting and smudged a pencil stroke somewhere. It happened in my family for sure).

In Brooklyn, their father went by the last name "Marionetti," which ended up shortened to just "Mario," as oftentimes he would be addressed by his surname only. (Think, "Hey, Mario! Get over here!" as opposed to "Hey, Marionetti! Get over here!")

So, the boys are born and get their names. (Their father's middle name was Mario, and so our Mario, being the oldest, inherits his father's middle name as his first name. Luigi's name maybe comes from the middle name of some uncle who is long out of the picture).

So we have "Mario Marionetti" and "Luigi Marionetti." Which, their surname being a mouthful, gets shortened to "Mario" more often than not, just like their father. And thus we end up with "Mario Mario" and "Luigi Mario," culminating in the "Mario Brothers."

Let's all put on our thinking caps and see that there is no actual evidence that iskall didn't do anything but his own word. There is, however, massive amounts of evidence that he did.
