Watching Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron again as an adult is so great because not only do you appreciate the nostalgia and joy of it, the stunning 2D animation mixed with early 3D techonology and well written tight story with a main character that never speaks.

But also you appreciate that the plot relies on horses, despite not being typical talking horses in cartoons, being extremely intelligent to the point that they are aware of their captivity and exploitation. And it involves a hyper intelligent horse dismantling (or, at the very least significantly delaying) American colonialism's expansion into the west.

This horse also very likely killed many colonialists when they were either launched at high speeds from his back, kicked in the head or blown up in a train explosion.

Good for him.

#I also love how the humans continue to severely underestimate just how much damage this horse can do #imagine the Colonel rocking up to the train camp with the whole place on fire #so many men killed #all the horses gone with some probably getting stuck along the way because they're dragging literal chains #and he sees that goddamn buckskin mustang that wrecked his whole shit #and that he last saw jumping into a raging river #what a day he'd be having #that horse? played dead so he could kick off the chains on the horses and then sent a whole train rolling down a hill into another train #set the whole forest on fire - killed so many bystanders and probably woodland animals #this horse is a liability he just keeps wrecking our whole shit every time we capture him #seriously don't go near that horse I think he might be a god or something

#kingdom hearts 0.2 birth by sleep a fragmentary passage #kh0.2 #the world within #dwarf woodlands #realm of darkness #scenery #my gif #this world is interesting because it's so different from the rest #the sky looks like some sort of dome with triangular screens that project a broken glitchy sky #almost as if it takes place in some kind of data simulation #which i don't think is the case but it adds to the feeling of aqua's experiences here not feeling ''real''#i mean this place hardly even resembles what the original world is supposed to look like #like it changed to match aqua's psyche. forcing her to look at her own reflection and confront her own fears; doubts; guilt; and sadness #actually now that i think about it this feels extremely fitting for this world #it's like when snow white was running through the forest and was so afraid that it made the trees around her look alive and dangerous #except aqua has to wander this broken world and face her dark thoughts that take shape by looking exactly like her #she's constantly running in and out of mirrors into rooms that make no logical sense like the endless staircase and the pillar maze #there are ghostly echoes spoken in her own voice that mock her by saying no one can save her and no one wants to. it's chilling #i can't even say for sure if the phantom aquas are actually physically there or if it's all in her head #similar to how she'd see visions of terra and ven #she's such a tragic character

I might be poking at a bear here but I kinda really dislike the "all or nothing" attitude the WoF fandom has. This character is evil the worst piece of garbage imaginable or is secretly a great character and you're just a fool for thinking otherwise. It's ridiculous at times

Like I recall the stuff with Secretkeeper a while back. Now, call me crazy, but I don't think she's some horrifically abusive and neglectful parent. She did the best that she could. Was it great? No, but she was trying to keep her daughter safe in a hostile world that she was terrified would reject or, worse, hunt her. Her leaving Moon alone for days was bad, yes, but she wanted to keep Moon free from the horrors of the volcano. She loved Moon and clearly took care of her a lot. You can't just look at a character and paint them as being a "horrible abusive POS" for something that, let's be real here, is much more forgivable and understandable than anything Coral, Scarlet, Diamond, Cobra, Jerboa, or Kestrel did

#Honestly– and I am quite sorry if this is obscenely rude or tone deaf of me– but I think a lot about that one anon #on the WoF confessions blog that kept sending long winded essays on why Secretkeeper was a bad mom #and it reminded me of when a fellow friend of mine said “y'know there is a time and place for criticism and analysis and it #should be considered and appreciated..however when a person is 10k+ words deep into how Moon betrayed Winter #and how Moon is a actually a horrible heartless monster while Winter is a helpless and innocent victim the analysis #becomes less about the topic at hand and more at the writer because it reveals how they perceive things and what they get fixated on“#Like Secretkeeper anon are you good?#sp-rambles #wof #Like of course you can argue and say whatever you want for her but eventually as time goes on you're just seeing the forest for the trees #When you go in hating Secretkeeper for whatever reason of course literally everything she says or does will be irredeemable

#i have a lot of feelings about ryoshu getting the spider bud ego #my horrible murderwoman who's also just a fantastic parent #my feelings about outis canto can also be copied over for ryoshu's canto. which is canto 9 #i need to see yuzuki. i know she is... probably dead considering uh.#“forest for the flames” is a reference to how she died (in a carriage that was set on fire)#(and a play on “not seeing the forest for the trees” which means focusing too much on detail not seeing the big picture)#(which is what the artist in hell screen was doing. he was so focused on each detail of the hell screen that. y'know)#(he didn't realize the man who commissioned the screen was going to kill his daughter. until it was too late)#and also considering ryoshu's cg from the tgs trailer is probably a nod to. how the artist hung himself after the screen was finished.#because of his daughter's death #i don't think limbus yuzuki survived. but we can hold out hope
