The movement for uncapping the house could gain more publicity if people tried or states started debating giving assent to a forgotten proposed amendment that already has 11 states' assent.

Which amendment,you may ask?

This amendment.

I'm not contemplating seriously passing it in any event it needs 38 states to assent. So even if some states did assent it wouldn't affect anything. But it would get the national conversation and debate going.

A lot of people are unaware of this amendment but it exists and it doesn't have a time limit.

This is your daily reminder that Donald Trump only got 49.8% of the popular vote. And that the Republican majority in Congress is one of the most narrow in US history.

They might claim that the victory was “overwhelming” and that they have a “mandate” but that’s just not true.

More than half of Americans didn’t vote for this guy! We are in the majority!

This is also a good time to remind people about how the electoral college was specifically designed to give slave-holding states an unfair advantage over non-slaveholding states. The Reapportionment Act of 1929 made the number of representatives in the House of Representatives permanently set at 435 which disproportionately favors rural areas (and if it wasn’t around today, there would be over 1,000 members of the House). And that most states don’t have any concrete protections against gerrymandering.

Our system is unfair, and that’s how this regime won power. But it doesn’t have to be this way!

Reforming the electoral college, repealing the Reapportionment Act, and ending gerrymandering are real, concrete steps we can take towards change. And no they’re not easy. No, they won’t happen overnight. But as the saying goes, nothing worth having ever comes easy.

This regime wants us to think that only they and their support tech billionaires are the ones who hold the power. But there’s more of us than there are of them. The constitution begins with “We the people” for a reason. Because it is US, the PEOPLE, that hold the true power.

Remember to vote down-ballot

If you live in the United States, you haven't been able to escape hearing about the presidential contest between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.

But don't forget that there are other races on your ballot too. Research them before you go to the polls and decide how you are going to vote. You can find out who is running in your area on a local government website or at Ballotpedia.

Everywhere in the United States, you can vote on who to send to the House of Representatives.

In two thirds of the states, you can vote for a Senator.

In some states, various state and local officials are on the ballot. (In other states these contests are held in non-presidential years.)

Some states are holding referendums. You can vote for or against an amendment to your state's constitution, or for or against a law that the legislature has sent to an election.

In some localities you can vote on a bond issue that would authorize a local government to levy taxes for a special project.

If it's too much to remember, you can bring notes with you into the voting booth about who and what you want to vote for.

Some of you are not planning to vote because you hate both Harris and Trump. But you might find the other races to be meaningful to you. Get out and vote even if you leave the top of the ballot blank.

This is how you stand up for Trans rights and combat bigotry.

Representative Sarah McBride (DE) is a transgender woman. During this congressional hearing, Chairman Representative Keith Self (TX) purposefully misgendered her—TWICE.

McBride's response referring to him as "Madam Chairman" was not only the clapback of the century, but it also was a powerful way to expose the absurdity of bigotry. His goal was to demean her but she exposed Self's misgendering, like most bigotry, as the childish, petty, and deeply hypocritical tactic that it is. Go off girl!

But more than that, this moment is an excellent example as to why representation in government matters. When marginalized communities have a voice in the room, they can challenge these dehumanizing schemes both personally and in policy and bring visibility to them as well. McBride’s presence in Congress forces a system historically violent towards trans people to reckon with their existence—and their power!

Representative Keating's (MA) support shows how allies should act: by speaking up, calling out injustice, and using your privilege to protect those under attack.

These picks are not only bad since most of these picks lack experience in these fields, but some actually have written parts of the Project 2025 guidebook, like Russel T. Vought for example.

And although the Republicans took the Senate, they still need Democrat cooperation to confirm these nominations.

Another factor to consider is that not all of the Republicans are on board with these nominations, an example being Matt Gaetz, who ended up withdrawing his bid for Attorney General after facing backlash from fellow Repubs amid allegations of sexual misconduct
