H.R. 9495 is going to be voted on tomorrow, this Thursday
Find your representative here:
Call in with this phone number, which will cycle you through a list of Democrats who voted yes. Tell them to change their minds and vote no: 319-313-7674
Tumblr media
The FFTF link will do the same thing and also has a call script:
If you have a Dem rep, you can use this call/email script here:
"I am calling to urge my representative to vote no on H.R. 9495 . This is a dangerous bill that would give the Trump administration unilateral power to label any non-profit as terrorist supporting and shut it down without due process. I am calling on my representative to defend civil rights organizations and oppose this bill. Thank you.”
If you have a Republican representative, you can use this one here:
"I am calling to urge my representative to vote no on H.R. 9495 . This is a dangerous bill that would give the government the unilateral power to stifle free speech and our right to dissent by labeling any non-profit as terrorist supporting and shutting it down without due process. I am calling on my representative to defend civil rights organizations and oppose this bill. Thank you.”
I also urge you to fax your rep as well(Faxzero allows 5 free faxes):
Please keep up the pressure, make your voices heard, continue to leave messages to your representatives and make sure they hear you either through voicemail, call, etc.

Absolutely. Fucking. Disgusting.

(link to post) (link to Clerk House vote results)
(link to Business Insider's article confirming this)
From that article, Thomas Massive (R-Kentucky)'s comment on his no vote:
"Antisemitism is deplorable, but expanding it to include criticism of Israel is not helpful," Massie wrote on X.
I hope everyone of those islamophobic, arabphobic, Palestinianphobic, antisemitic 412 members of house lose their elections to people who actually give a damn about Palestine.
ALL of them put their seats in jeopardy with this shit.
Anti-zionism isn't antisemitic, Palestinians are native to the region AND EXIST and NONE of them are listening to anyone about that. Fuck all of them.

On the one hand, not having a Speaker of the House is indicative of very serious issues in the American populace. It shows a divisive political dialogue and a country in crisis. The last two times this happened both preceded horrible periods of disruption in our country by about 10 years, the Great Depression and the Civil War. So it's not a great look and does make one nervous about what is coming down the pipe On the other hand it is genuinely so fucking funny

Remember to vote down-ballot
If you live in the United States, you haven't been able to escape hearing about the presidential contest between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
But don't forget that there are other races on your ballot too. Research them before you go to the polls and decide how you are going to vote. You can find out who is running in your area on a local government website or at Ballotpedia.
Everywhere in the United States, you can vote on who to send to the House of Representatives.
In two thirds of the states, you can vote for a Senator.
In some states, various state and local officials are on the ballot. (In other states these contests are held in non-presidential years.)
Some states are holding referendums. You can vote for or against an amendment to your state's constitution, or for or against a law that the legislature has sent to an election.
In some localities you can vote on a bond issue that would authorize a local government to levy taxes for a special project.
If it's too much to remember, you can bring notes with you into the voting booth about who and what you want to vote for.
Some of you are not planning to vote because you hate both Harris and Trump. But you might find the other races to be meaningful to you. Get out and vote even if you leave the top of the ballot blank.

Guilty Of Genocide
Tumblr media
I will never back down in speaking truth to power.
The apartheid government of Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians.
Palestinians will not be erased.
Solidarity with all those outside of these walls in the streets protesting and exercising their right to dissent.

Hey
not only is the president up for election this year,
so is every member of the US House of Representatives and 1/3 of the Senate.
If you don't know who your congresspeople are, find out on the US congress website:
the congress we vote in is vitally important. If Harris wins the presidency, having a democratic congress will allow her to make the moves we want to see. If trump wins the presidency, a democratic congress will be all that can protect citizens against him. vote. vote blue. protect yourself and protect your community.
edit: 1/3 of the senate not 1/2

In a clear reaction to pro-Palestine protests, the House might pass legislation that would hand the government a dangerous tool to stifle free speech and punish disfavored groups. We must take action. This bill (H.R. 9495) gives the executive branch the authority to effectively dismantle any nonprofit organization it deems to have provided "material support" to terrorist groups and the potential for abuse under this law is staggering. We've already seen government officials conflate protesting students with Hamas or other terrorist groups. It isn't a stretch to imagine how this bill could be used to pressure universities to shut down student groups and further criminalize dissent in this country. Knowing the U.S. government's long history of abusive and discriminatory material support investigations and prosecutions in the post-9/11 era – disproportionately against Muslims and charities – we cannot allow this bill to pass. Tell your representatives to vote no on H.R. 9495.
As of ACLU's Instagram post 6 hours ago, the House could vote on this bill as early as TOMORROW, Tuesday, November 12th.
This bill "would give the incoming Trump administration a new tool they could use to stifle free speech, target political opponents, and punish groups that disagree with them."
Here is the link to the Intercept article the ACLU links to, titled "Congress Is About to Gift Trump Sweeping Powers to Crush His Political Enemies"

Ok, a Monday Update on Bill H.R. 9495
the House voted in committee today with several of the Democrates loudly opposing it (good thing). A full House vote is expected later this week, either Wednesday or Thursday (probably Thursday)
So it's important to keep up the pressure and keep on making your voices heard
Same thing as before :
Find your representative here:
Tumblr media
If your Rep is one of the Dems that voted "Yes" on this, tell them this is their chance to stop this bill and not give Trump more powers. Tell them you'll vote for them in the next election if they vote "no" on this bill.
If your Rep is Republican, tell them that this bill would also affect the Salvation Army as it is nonprofit.
If your Rep previously voted "No" on this bill, encourage them to keep their stand and stick to their "No",and thank them for this.
CALL TOOLS :
Here's the ACLU call tool:
FFTF 's updated call tool:
Don't forget to fax as well:
Call in number is 319-313-7674
Script you can also use :
"I am calling to urge my representative to vote no on H.R. 9495 . This is a dangerous bill would give the Trump administration unilateral power to label any non-profit as terrorist supporting and shut it down without due process. I am calling on my representative to defend civil rights organizations and oppose this bill. Thank you.”
