Sometimes being disabled means you can't go to college, can't get a job, have to live with your parents and that's ok. For a lot of us it means not being able to go outside most days, not being able to get up or move at all. It can mean needing someone to wash us or feed us or help us with the bathroom and that is ok. It doesn't mean that we're less than or that we aren't worth anything.

And it's valid for us to be mad about it. Even if we can overcome some of these things with accomodations we're allowed to be mad that we're in this situation, and wish that we weren't disabled because I sure as hell hate this shit.

Being housebound and (partially) bed bound is a true test or resilience because what do you mean I’ve only left the house 3 times in the past 2 months and can only go outside in my back yard with help? What do you mean I have to have support just getting to the bathroom even though it’s right across from my bedroom? What do you mean all of my activities are done in bed because I can’t sit unassisted to do them? What do you mean I have to have someone cook for me because I can’t stand to do it on my own? What do you mean!!!

I wasn’t the sort of kid who dreamed big. I only ever wanted a normal, peaceful life. I thought I was boring for that. I never thought I would have to fight so hard for it.

And also remember that letting people work from home, and attend virtual concerts, and go to meetings via zoom, and go to conferences virtually, and go to religious services virtually, and go to all kinds of other events virtually and thus, allowing for disabled and chronically ill folks to participate in society like never before…

But now, folks want to take so many of those options away all over again…isolating disabled and chronically ill folks from society again. It’s cruel…taking something beautiful like that away from us after showing us that something like that was possible this whole time since we have had the technology. And now that we know for a fact that the technology exists, non-disabled and non-chronically ill people want to take that away from us?

It’s beyond cruel.

If you’ve never been house bound or bed bound for months or years on end like I have? Or like others like me have? Then you have no idea what this feels like. None.

yearning to be able to leave the house and go outside, we literally have chickens next to our house that we can see but it's too hot to leave, it makes us suck in a matter of minutes, and the only way to cool down is by taking a bath, and our bath tub is too tiny to bath in without pain. It's soul crushing to know the only time we'll be able to go outside is during winter, not even fall as it will still be too hot. Every year, only one season where we are free to leave the tiny house we live in. We wanted to travel as a kid, watching so many things showcase the beauty of the world. Now as an adult knowing it is out of reach. And as climate change makes it hotter, who knows if winter will remain accessible for the rest of our lifespan, for all we know it could get too hot in the winter eventually. We can only spectate the outside world for most our life. Depressing
