28. What are you proudest of?

Getting my BA in English and then getting my MFA in Creative writing. I mean, those degrees aren't getting me anywhere in the fucking world right now, but I'm the first person in my immediate family to not just get a Bachelor's degree but also a Masters, and I did it all in my 30s, so 'worthless degrees' or not (yes, a temp agency cunt of a worker told me that - that my degrees that I worked my ass off for were worthless because they weren't business or bankable or whatever), I'm goddamn proud of my accomplishing those, esp my last semester of undergrad when my ex decided that he was going to dump me for an ex from high school (she ghosted him right after he told her he was getting a divorce from me, so ha ha ha, motherfucker) so I was having to deal with depression, divorce, and getting my degree all at once, and not only did I get my degree, but I graduated Summa Cum Laude in the process with an almost 4.0 GPA.

It can't be overstated how powerful the catharsis is when a scene of a character connecting with their wounded inner child is done right. The key poses...the expressions...the timing...storytelling like this can help to provide some healing for so many people in the audience.

#(hear it from me as a former therapist --)#I basically have had many sessions with clients where it's WAY easier to visually show them what inner child work is like #rather than verbally trying to break down the concept and explain it to them in mere words #if you show them visually it hits the subconscious right away. bypasses the conscious mind and cold logic #to show this in the form of art drives the concept home that much more #that's why we need stories about healing done right #the How to Connect Lovingly part is soooo hard to do honestly (speaking from my own personal experiences too)#it's so easy to keep loathing your wounded inner kid and finding him/her/them pathetic #arcane spoilers #arcane s2 #jinx arcane #isha arcane #arcane #literally like...now that I have seen this scene I want to dig up the old photo of smol me that I used in my own therapy --#to connect with my own horribly traumatized inner kid

I love Tumblr because nothing matters here truly. There are no influencers. Having followers doesn’t mean anything. It’s just a site where people post their sporadic thoughts and rb pretty pictures. Anyone who thinks any of this matters is woefully missing the point

Star Trek AU - Scogan

This would be 100% bonkers cracky shit if I wrote it. I would write, first and foremost, a FIX-IT to the Star Trek Next Generation abomination episode Perfect Mate (it has Famke Janssen in it). Changing out Riker and Worf for Scott and Logan, I would have Kamala (Famke's character's name in that - fuck, I can't believe they gave her the name of a beloved heroine and the woman I want for fucking president) try her little "make two guys compete for her attention" bullshit (hey, she did that in this episode and had Riker and Worf fighting each other over her dumb ass) and have Scott and Logan totally ignore her ass rather than fight. And then they and Picard can yeet her into the sun. Any sun. As long as she's yeeted into it. And then Scott and Logan can go back to their wild sex with each other.

Bodyguard AU - Emma/Tony

This one has so many delicious possibilities to play with. I mean, I wrote a Scogan fic with background Emma/Tony that was a Bodyguard AU where Tony assigned Logan to his wife's cousin (Scott) after a nasty divorce and being fired, essentially, from his teaching post at the school.

But with a focus on Tony and Emma, there's always the idea of them both having bodyguards, but I think I'd go with something unexpected. Such as Tony, being the billionaire genius inventor that he is, he would need a bodyguard, and as Happy has sort of shifted over to driving Pepper and being head of security for SI, Tony now requires a new bodyguard. Being Tony, he doesn't want someone who looks like a bodyguard. The hiring process is exhausting, however, because naturally everyone and their dog wants to get hired as Tony Stark's personal bodyguard - the prestige! The fame! The money!

At the end of the day, Tony's ready to call it quits and forget about having a bodyguard, but Pepper insists that he interview the last candidate waiting.

In walks Emma Frost, smart white business suit, stiletto heels, hair pulled up in a ponytail that swishes back and forth across her back. Tony is extremely interested, but...bodyguard?

There would be a scene where she's allowed to trounce Happy in the ring without breaking a sweat.

And then out in public, of course, Tony is attacked after hiring Emma, but just when he thinks they're both goners when guns are pulled on them, Emma goes diamond form and steps in front of him, blocking all bullets. Once the bad guy is all out of bullets, Emma drops her diamond skin and uses her telepathy to turn the assailant's mind into mush until they can get him contained and questioned.

Eventually, employer falls for bodyguard and vice versa.

I do think Blazing Saddles handled its one depiction of native americans very poorly, and the full extent of its representation of chinese workers on the railroad is they were literally just there. not even one single speaking line. unclear if this is worse or better than the redface.

it's fucking phenomenal at lampooning antiblack racism though. extremely blatant, extremely funny satire, which is constantly and loudly saying "racism is the philosophy of the terminally stupid at best and morally depraved at worst, and we should all be pointing and laughing at them 24/7"

plus the main character is a heroic black man who has to navigate a whole lot of bullshit but is constantly smirking at the extraordinarily stupid racists and inviting the audience into the joke. the one heroic white character is a guy who was suicidally depressed until he met the protagonist and they just instantly became buds, and he's firmly in a supporting role the whole time and happy to be there. the protagonist saves the day with the help of his black friends from the railroad, and uses the position of power he was given to uplift not only those friends, but all the railroad workers of other minorities too, in an explicit show of solidarity.

anyone saying "Blazing Saddles is racist" had better be talking about its treatment of non-black minorities. it had better not be such superficial takes as "oh but they say the n-word all the time" or "they have nazis and the kkk in there!" because goddamn if that's the full extent of your critique I very seriously suggest you read up on media analysis. there is too much going over your head, you need to learn to recognize satire.
