My Fasting Experience: Low Blood Sugar Moments and How I Handled Them
Fasting can be a tricky journey. At times, it feels like walking a tightrope. It’s not just about skipping meals; it’s about tuning into what your body is saying. I started my fasting experience hoping for clarity and health. Little did I know, I'd face some surprising low blood sugar moments that shook me up! Here’s how I navigated through the bumps and found my footing.
Understanding the Ups and Downs of Fasting
Fasting often feels like an adventure. You think you’re on solid ground, but then—bam! Your blood sugar drops. Moments like these can feel alarming. Suddenly, you're weak, dizzy, or even lightheaded. It left me wondering: How did I get here?
When you fast, your body is running on empty fuel. It’s like trying to drive a car on fumes. Eventually, you hit a wall. This happened to me on several occasions. I realized that understanding my body’s signals was key to managing those low points.
Recognizing the Signs of Low Blood Sugar
Low blood sugar can sneak up on you. At first, it might just feel like a little fatigue. The next thing you know, you're staring at your feet, wishing the ground would steady itself. I started recognizing my signs: the shaky hands, the foggy brain, and that annoying little sweat on my forehead.
Each of these signs was a warning bell. It’s like my body was sending me a text message saying, "Hey, pay attention!" The trick was learning to listen and react before things got serious.
Quick Fixes to Raise Blood Sugar Levels
When low blood sugar hit, I needed solutions fast. I learned to keep a stash of easy snacks nearby. Something as simple as a piece of fruit or a bite of granola could make a world of difference. It was like pulling a parachute cord when free-falling. Instant relief!
I kept small packets of honey in my bag. They’re tasty, easy to carry, and bring up my sugar levels quickly. It’s amazing how a little sweetness can turn your day around!
Planning My Meals to Avoid Low Moments
Planning became crucial in my fasting routine. I started mapping out my meals, making sure I had enough nutrients to fuel my body. Eating wholesome meals before starting a fast was like filling my gas tank to full before a long trip. I wanted to avoid running out of fuel halfway.
I learned the importance of including proteins, fats, and fiber. These kept me feeling full longer and helped maintain steady blood sugar levels. It’s all about building a foundation that can handle the ups and downs.
Finding Balance Through Fasting
Fasting is all about balance. There were days when I hit those low points, but they were also days filled with learning. Each experience taught me more about my body and its signals.
It’s not just about the act of fasting itself; it’s about how to balance your body’s needs with your goals. I found that adjusting my approach and listening closely helped me handle those low blood sugar moments better.
Conclusion: Embracing the Journey
My fasting experience was filled with highs and lows. The low blood sugar moments were unexpected challenges, but also valuable lessons. I learned to listen, prepare, and react. Instead of fearing these moments, I embraced them as part of the journey.
So, if you’re thinking about fasting, keep in mind that it’s a personal adventure. You may face your own struggles, but with a little preparation and awareness, you'll find your way. Fasting isn’t just about food—it's about understanding your body and embracing the experience!

thinking (and rewatching..) inside job again and i dont think rand is that bad of a father? i mean, he made a lot of mistakes and he doesn’t even feel bad ab it, even tho he traumatized reagan and a lot, but he was never absent. he acts like he cared ab reagan’s career just bc it could help his career, but that’s not true. he pushes her to be the best all the time and it’s bad, but he genuinely cares ab her so much. and the whole ‘creating crises to force her to hang out w him’ thing is fucked up, but it’s cute that he just wants to hang out w her that bad. most fathers literally don’t care enough ab their kids to do any of that. most fathers don’t even know their kids as much as he knows her. maybe my standards are just insanely low, probably, but he’s a better parent than 90% of the parents i know
#not just fathers. my standards aren’t lower for fathers than they are for mothers yk. they’re both low#he’s a better parent than my mom#he raised her being completely emotionally neglecting and putting so much pressure on her to be the genius she is#but i mean#my mom was just as emotionally neglecting as he was. i like telling the story ab how she had me stitch up my own wound when i was 8#and always mocked me for being ‘weak’. exactly like toxic masculinity except that we’re both girls. i couldn’t have feelings yk#rand isn’t as toxic as her when it comes to that. he neglects her feelings and even mocks them too but she still seemed allowed to Have them#if my mom thought i was being ‘weak’ she would scream at me ab how much she wished i had never been born. he doesn’t do that!!!!#like when she didn’t wanna skip 4th grade. if that were me my mom would have made me feel so guilty for being born#like i had to skip grades and actively pretend (i’m talking real acting here) to not be upset or she’d go on her rants#ab how life is difficult and depressing for everyone and i gotta swallow it and like it cause she sacrificed her happiness and health for me#cause my being born made her life so hard etc etc#i don’t think rand make reagan feel like her continuing existence kept him from being happy or healthy#my mom started blaming her diabetes on me when i was 10.#like im not fucking kidding#cause my expensive private school (that she forced me to go to all my life cause it was semi boarding so i had someplace to stay all day and#so she didn’t need to leave me home alone) made her work too much which made her stressed which made her eat more so being diabetic was a#sacrifice she made for my future#that’s just how it was#inside job#text

Another new week starts.
How are we all doing on that most wonderful of days - Monday.....?
Ok, that was mostly sarcasm.
But Monday doesn't have to be MoanDay. Hey. I'm an actual genius, right? That just popped into my head.
I know I'm very lucky to be early retired, at least for now (I may have to go back to work eventually for morbid reasons, but that's another conversation, lol).
But when I was working up to last year, I had a pretty intense daily work life, and I still did my best to appreciate every day, no matter what particular day that was.
But anyway, my Monday morning so far has been positive.
Sleep? Don't be silly. Mucus? Yeah, I don't wanna talk about it. Insulin pump efficiency? Ha, nope. Getting there, though.
Oops, this is turning into one of my essays.....Reel it in, woman!
So even with all that nonsense going on, I'm on with life.
Right. On with my day......
Up before six. Out for my 30 minute walk. An early one, but I'm happy with that. Great way to wake everything up.
Upper body/ab workout soon after gettinghome.
I like this one. Not done it for a long while according to the app data.
I then got my Monday house chore put of the way. Cleaning the bathroom (no pic of that, haha), then time to sit on the floor by the big window for breakfast.
Favourite time of day. I love my frothy collagen/inulin decaff filter. And I have found I love breakfast, no matter what changes I keep having to make. Tomorrow will be keto porridge made with coconut "flour", cashew butter, frozen blueberries and more collagen.
I had to get moving again, as my blood sugar was running way too high this morning. It had actually been settling down, so that was a curveball. I thought it was possibly a faulty insulin pod.
I haven't done anything for my YouTube channel for ages, so I got on with a HIIT workout. Takes longer to upload than it does to actually do the workout 😅.
Monday's fitness ended with lower body pilates.
Before starting that, my blood sugar went in the exact opposite direction, so obviously not a pod issue. Just a, y'know.....ME issue, lol.
Anyway, meh to all of that. I feel good.
Basic 15hr fast as usual. Same high quality food as usual, and a good, positive day all round.
Hooray for a happy Monday 😊.

Take Control: Managing Elevated Blood Sugar Levels with Diabetes
Living with diabetes can feel like riding a roller coaster. Sometimes you're up, and other times, you're just trying to hold on. Elevated blood sugar levels can lead to complications, but managing them doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Let’s break it down into simple steps that make sense.
Understanding Elevated Blood Sugar Levels
When you eat, your body breaks down food into glucose, which is the fuel your cells need. Insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas, helps move that glucose into your cells. In diabetes, this system doesn’t work quite like it should. This can leave too much sugar lingering in your bloodstream. Think of it like a traffic jam; instead of flowing smoothly, everything's backed up and causing problems.
Recognizing the Signs
Ever felt unusually thirsty or tired? Maybe you've noticed frequent trips to the bathroom? Those can all be signs your blood sugar is too high. Other signals might include blurred vision or headaches. Paying attention to your body is key. It's like having a built-in alarm system; you just need to know how to listen.
Smart Eating Habits
Your diet plays a significant role in managing your blood sugar. Focus on whole foods that nourish your body. Think fruits, veggies, lean proteins, and whole grains. Picture your plate as a colorful palette. The more colors you have, the more nutrients you’re getting! Try to balance your meals with carbs, proteins, and fats to keep your blood sugar steady.
Regular Exercise: Your Secret Weapon
Let’s talk about exercise – it’s not just for fitness buffs or sports enthusiasts. Moving your body helps your cells use insulin more effectively. Just 30 minutes of walking, biking, or dancing can be a game changer. Think of exercise like a key; it opens the door for glucose to enter your cells. Plus, it lifts your mood and boosts your energy levels.
Monitoring Your Blood Sugar
Keeping an eye on your blood sugar numbers is crucial. Regular testing gives you a clear picture of how your food choices and activities impact your levels. Over time, you’ll start to notice patterns. Maybe you find out a certain snack pushes your numbers up. This knowledge is empowering, like having a roadmap in your back pocket.
Managing Stress: The Silent Saboteur
Stress can sneak in and cause your blood sugar to spike. It’s like an unexpected guest that makes everything chaotic. Stress triggers your body to release hormones that can raise blood sugar. Finding outlets like deep breathing, yoga, or even enjoying a hobby can help keep your stress in check. Think of these activities as a calm oasis amid a busy desert.
The Importance of Medication
Sometimes, lifestyle changes aren’t enough on their own. If your doctor has prescribed medication, it’s essential to take it as directed. Medications can help bridge the gap between what your body needs and what it can produce. Think of medication as a protective shield, safeguarding you from potential complications.
Building a Support System
You're not alone on this journey. Building a support system is vital. This can include friends, family, or join local support groups. Talking about your experience helps lighten the load. It’s like having a team behind you at a big game, cheering you on every step of the way.
Conclusion: Your Path Forward
Managing elevated blood sugar levels with diabetes doesn’t have to feel daunting. By learning about your body, making smart food choices, staying active, and seeking support, you can take significant steps towards better health. Remember, each small change adds up, and you have the power to shape your journey. Embrace this path and take control of your health today!

Hello! I am diabetic (type one, not sure if you’re type one or type two). I know it can be very disheartening as a diagnosis but I’ve been diabetic for almost twelve years and can tell you that it’s hard but manageable and if you have questions or need support there are lots of us out there. Good luck and I hope things go more smoothly for you from here on out
Anon, it's about to be a year since you sent this, a year since my initial diagnosis, and I want you to know that this message literally helped me push through the fear, stress, and anxiety that tried to drown me during those first handful of months where I had to learn what diabetes is, how it was affecting me, and how my life had to change to accommodate this new lifestyle. It's why I never responded to this until now, bc i wanted to be able to come back to it easily in my inbox and remind myself that I was going to be okay.
I was hospitalized twice for diabetic ketoacidosis, my doctors didn't even know if I was type 1 or 2 for the first 6 months (I've heard that's actually common for type 1s to be misdiagnosed as type 2 initially) until I was hospitalized once more this past June.
Im doing much better now. I'm getting the help I need. And I really do hope you are well and thriving. Thank you so much for reaching out when you did! Your words meant a lot to me 🫶
#inbox#anon#personal#what tripped me out the most was that i am average weight; within healthy for my age and height#and i didnt know that anyone could be diabetic; theres just this fatphobic stigma around type 2 that is so prevalent in mainstream media#plus how shit quality american food is;; depite the higher costs i only eat organic whole foods now#its been a struggle but i never want to be hospitalized again

Damn, I'm from Singapore and I really love the soya beancurd. But it super damn sweet and I could only eat one of em before gagging of the sweetness. And Apo didn't even buy from Mr. Bean where you can choose the level of sweetness you want. He bought from normal stores which is always 100% sugar :')
His sweet tooth is really no joke man. He ate three soya beancurd in one day and even bought two more before going back to Thailand. I hope there will be someone in Thailand that would open a shop to sell soya beancurd, to satisfy his craving for it.

Oh, the ongoing saga of my bad tempered blood sugars, lol.
So the last few days, they've been inexplicably high almost all the time.
Then last night....bang. Low all night. What the actual?? Anyway, mostly because of that, I've had a very bad night. Awake multiple times after taking much longer than usual to get to sleep. Then fully awake at 3.30am. Yay.....😳😩.
So I did what any normal person does in such a situation. I got up and did a glute/hamstring strength workout.
Then I had a decaff.
Soon after, back to the highs. Yeah....whatevs, lol.
And it's been high all morning once again.
So I did some cardio before my wonderful breakfast at 15hrs.
No discernable sunrise again, sadly, but still time in as much natural light as I can get.
Today I shall be surviving mostly on caffeine and cortisol....
It's a xmas eve tradition to open one present. And this is a perfect gift for me from my fabulous man. Decent coffee and walnuts! He knows me pretty well.
We're heading off in the morning to spend Xmas and Boxing day with family. Staying overnight in the motorhome. So I've prepared lunch and fruit for whilst we're there.
This is how I roll. I'll definitely eat more than usual, but I won't eat any less healthily!
