DCxDP fic Idea: A little bit of Home
One day, out of the blue, J'onn J'onzz asks if he could celebrate a Martian holiday. He hadn't before, seeing as the pain of losing his people and his home was too fresh, but he missed the holidays of Mars. He felt that if he didn't try to bring back some of his celebrations, then they, too, would be lost to death.
His teammates were happy to celebrate with him; they were touched by his sharing this part of his culture. J'onn explained that all they had to do was bring a childhood food item to feast on. He explains that on Mars, recipes were passed down for generations, and having the ancestral food of friends and family was the second most crucial part of his holiday.
They are then left stunned when he admits that the feast is traditionally held that same night, but he had been too nervous to mention it beforehand. He allows them to change their minds, but no one dares to.
Heroes pour out of the Watch Tower, racing home to begin cooking, and the Martian is told that as soon as they have something, they will return in time for the meal.
No one mentions the tears gathering on the smiling Martian's face. Nor do they say that his humanoid form falls away to his proper form, a rare occasion to witness.
J'onn then starts decorating the Watch Tower as the Justice League members work on what they will each bring.
He places a lot of shimmering rocks in patterns on the ground. They weave and curl through the hallways as members are careful with no stepping on them. He then has Batman help him find different minerals that change the color of sand used in gorgeous art portraits of each member. (The man was more than capable of sending him information while helping Alfred bake cookies)
It took a bit of flying around the world, but he was able to return to the tower a few hours later with all-natural colored sand. (Thank goodness for the teleportation technology Bruce installed)
By then, a few heroes had returned, each carrying a food or drink container.
Those he forms in the cafeteria where the feast will be held. A crowd of heroes stands around, oohing and ahhing, as J'onn uses his telekinesis to move the sands and create all of them simultaneously, putting on a show.
He is singing hauntingly beautiful songs while hanging colorful drapes around the walls in the last few hours leading up to the feast. No one could understand the words, but everyone agreed that J'onn had an incredible voice.
Clark, arriving with three Kent apple pies, smiles. "He sang that at my house on Christmas Day."
J'onn informed everyone that the event would be formal wear- and everyone showed up dressed to the nines. Heroes who still hid their secret identity- like Batman- had arrived in their costumes, but they had added bowties or some other little accessories to make it formal.
Seeing Nightwing fix the tophat on Batman's head while Red Hood was dressed in a lovely suit, forgoing his usual helmet for a red half mask, was..... enlightening.
A few drinks were served while people walked around admiring the sand painting that J'onn had made. He depicted not only the heroes but also multiple parts of the world, then a section of their best missions, and finally, paintings of good memories they had all shared.
It was like a walkable photoalbum.
Spirits were high as members enjoyed themselves, smiling at the memories and chatting with friends in the few peaceful times of their crazy lives. No one could hold in the gasp when J'onn finished getting ready and arrived at the party. He had painted himself in different shades of blue, beaming in pride at the praise for his cultural markings.
He asked everyone to sit, standing to pray in his native tongue. A few heroes bowed their heads, and others merely sat comfortably, waiting for the Martian to finish.
He picked up his cup, raising it high in the air with his hand
"Friends," J'onn started, voicing, choked up with emotion. "I thank you all for joining me today. It means the world to me that you come here to celebrate the King's Feast. May Phantom watch over you all and freeze all your enemies!"
His cup floats out of his hand, turning to the side so the water can fall out and take the shape of a strange D. J'onn bowes his head, crossing his arms and muttering more prayers.
John Constantine, who had been attempting to sneak bites from the steak and kidney he brought, drops his fork. He stares in absolute shock at the flouting water symbol above the martian before Zatanna slaps him on the shoulder. "Don't be rude!"
He points one shaking finger at the Martian, turning to her with a pale face. "The Martians worship King Phantom!?"
She blinks. "Who's that?"
John moves his jaw, but no words leave his mouth as J'onn finishes his last prayer. He then holds up a plate proudly, explaining what it is and why he chose it to share. He encourages every hero to do the same, so voices fill the air one by one as they present their offering and the memory attached to it.
No one pays much mind to the blond British man desperately drawing wards on the ground using his green-colored chalk. When asked what her husband was doing, Zatanna shrugs helplessly.
Likewise, no one notices some of the plates mysteriously lose some of their contents. The food appears on Earth in the room of a very excited Halfa, who feeds on the foods and the emotions weaved into the meals.
J'onn later claims that this Great One Day felt like King Phantom was slightly closer than usual.

“Megumi!” You call your son in the living room, who’s sitting next to his father, Toji, on the couch watching the news. “Could you go grab your sister and tell her to put her studying on hold? Dinner’s almost done.”
“Yeah, no problem,” Megumi says as he rises to his feet, putting his headphones around his neck and pulling his phone out of his hoodie pocket. “Oh, uh, Mom?”
“Hm?”
“Can Itadori spend the night after dinner?” He then looks over at Toji with a small scowl. “After Dad hides all of his assassin stuff?”
“Hey, watch it,” Toji says.
You nod with a light smile. You loved having Yuuji Itadori over. He was a bright kid, and besides, he made Megumi relaxed and happy. “Of course. Go prepare the guest bed, yeah?”
Megumi departs with a nod, then heads upstairs. From the living room, you hear Toji whistle. “Wow. Baby, looks like Spider-Man stopped that bank robbery.”
You look up from the dishes in the kitchen, then hum in delight when you catch what’s on the screen. It looked like small clips from the internet as the reporter gave details. The masked hero, wearing blue and red, swings, fights, and rescues hostages swiftly. “Incredible,” you say, then walk over to hand your husband a list of groceries. “Could you head to the store and grab these? I want to make sure that we have enough food for breakfast in the morning now that Yuuji will be staying the night.”
Toji looks around to make sure that Megumi and Tsumiki aren’t present, then lowers his voice to a whisper. “Actually, I wanted to talk to you about Yuuji.”
“Megumi has feelings for him. Yeah, I know.”
“No- Not that. Amazing for them, and I think they’re adorable together, but,” Toji points over at the TV. “I think he’s Spider-Man.”
You blink, then burst into laughter as you head back into the kitchen. “Toji, what? Don’t be ridiculous. He’s only fifteen and very busy. You know how often he studies with Megumi.”
“I’m serious,” he says as he follows you. “Think about it. Do you know how often Yuuji shows up with bruises or scratches?”
You begin arranging plates on the dining room table. “Just like our son, the kid’s a fighter. I mean, his uncle Sukuna was a huge fighter before he passed away. Plus, he spends a lot of time with Satoru Gojo, and we know how he is. Also, doesn’t he have an older brother? Brothers fight.”
“True, but just walk with me for a second.” You sigh and look up to see Toji waving his hands animatedly as he explained. “Do you remember when we all went to the parade on New Years together, and that giant robot appeared?”
“Yes, it was all everyone could talk about for days.”
“Uh-huh.” He then points at you. “Do you also remember how Yuuji was gone when Spider-Man appeared at the scene?”
You stare at him blankly. “...Toji, he went to the bathroom before everything happened,” you remind him. “I’m certain that he got lost in the crowd when everyone started running.”
Toji groans. “You don’t believe me. Baby, I’m telling you—He’s Spider-Man. I can’t prove it now, but I will eventually.”
You sigh again and cross your arms. “Okay, so, let’s say he was. What would you do?”
“Well, I mean…” Toji mutters, then sheepishly rubs the back of his head as he quietly chuckles. “I dunno, give him a high-five? Worry about Megumi?”
“Trust me, Toji. The only people with secret identities here are you and I.” You reach over and grab a stack of napkins. “By the way, Megumi had a point earlier. Be more careful about where you’re leaving weapons. One of Tsumiki’s friends nearly saw one not too long ago.”
He winces. “Sorry.”
“You’re fine.” You push to your tip toes and gently kiss him. “No job tonight, right? I know I don’t have one.”
“Nope. Once I get those groceries, I’m all free.” He grabs the list from you, then reaches towards you to lovingly push a loose strand of hair away from your face. “I’ll be back soon.” When he leaves through the back door, the front doorbell rings.
You hear Megumi rush down the stairs. “I got it,” he tells you as he passes you. When the door opens, Yuuji Itadori waves at you with his usual grin. “Hi, Mrs. Fushiguro!”
“Hi, Yuuji. What happened to your face?” You ask. His lip is slightly busted, and there’s a bruise beginning to form on his jaw. Yuuji laughs sheepishly, shoving his hands into the pockets of his yellow hoodie. “Oh, uh, me and Okkotsu fought again. Gojo-sensei had to pull us apart.”
Megumi rolls his eyes. “I swear, you’re always fighting.”
“Aw, come on, Megumi,” Yuuji teases with a smirk as he crosses his arms. “You’re just as bad. I heard about what happened a few days ago.”
Your son’s cheeks dust with pink, and he clears his throat. “Yeah, whatever. You need to get cleaned up before dinner. Come on, there’s a first-aid kit in the bathroom.”
Megumi goes upstairs, and Yuuji follows close behind him. You’re about to tell Yuuji that the flap of his backpack is slightly unzipped, but the words get stuck in your throat when you catch the tiniest hint of the red and blue suit. You only see it for a split-second before Yuuji swings his backpack around, excitedly telling Megumi about a new action figure he wants to get for his birthday.
Your eyes widen. Holy shit.

nowhere else i'd rather be | l.s
a/n: here is more of logan x verstappen!reader. i've also got another part in the works which i'm excited to start
summary: you comfort logan after the news broke that he wouldn't be racing in the australian grand prix
<- previous part
You were in the Red Bull garage when the news was announced. You had heard the rumors after Alex's crash in free practice one but you didn't think they would actually do it or at least you hoped they wouldn't. Williams had given Alex Logan's car for the rest of the weekend and you were angry.
You quietly left before anyone noticed, making your way to Logan's room for the weekend. No one batted an eye, too focused on getting the car ready for free practice two so you were able to sneak in. You found his room easily, the layout similar to Red Bulls garage, and knocked on the door. You heard some movement inside but no one came to open the door.
"Logan? It's me, Y/N." You tried again. You didn't want to just barge in but you also wanted to see him, to make sure he was okay. Well as okay as anyone can be in this situation.
"The doors open." You heard him mumble and you quickly slipped inside.
The sight before you broke your heart. Logan was sat on his couch, his head in his hands. He looked defeated. You sat down next to him, immediately wrapping your arms around him. It was like a dam broke inside as tears started falling. You held him tightly, your way of letting him know you weren't going anywhere. It took everything for you to not go in James' office and give him a piece of your mind for treating Logan like this.
It was a few minutes before Logan sat up, moving out of your arms. He brushed his hand over his face as if he was trying to hide the fact he was crying. "I'm sorry." He mumbled, too embarrassed to look at you.
"You don't need to apologize, Logan. What they did was shit. You have every right to be upset." You told him, placing your hand over his. "I don't ever wanna hear you apologize for your feelings, okay?"
"Thanks, Y/N." Logan thanked you, sending you what was probably the first genuine smile of the day. "You being here means a lot."
"There's no where else I'd rather be." You admitted, heat rising to your cheeks at your admission. Before you could hide, afraid you made the situation weird, Logan cupped your cheek and leaned forward. Neither of you had a chance to make a move before your phone went off, interrupting the moment. You cursed silently at your brother for choosing now to text you. "I should probably get going or Max will send out a search party."
"Yeah, I should probably show my face in the garage." Logan groaned. He didn't want to but knew he had to keep up appearances for the team.
"I'll text you later." You promised him as he walked you to the door. You hugged Logan goodbye and left but not before you bumped into Alex. "Hey Alex."
"Hey Y/N." He called after you. Alex then turned to Logan giving him a knowing smirk.
"We're just friends." Logan said, trying to convince himself more than anything because there was no way he could have a crush on a fellow drivers sister. Alex grinned at his teammate, not believing him one bit.
-x-
Logan was nervous. More nervous than he was before he got into his car on race days. He had no reason to though because you were just friends. That's what he kept telling himself, afraid of embarrassing himself in front of you. You had texted earlier that you were coming over to his hotel room, bringing food with you, and since then Logan was on edge. It felt like a date but you hadn't said anything to suggest it was.
A knock on the door broke him out of his thoughts. He opened the door and there you were, takeout bags in each hand and a grin on your face. It was enough for the nervousness Logan had to melt away. "I heard about this place from Oscar and he reckons its the best food in Melbourne. So if its bad we can just blame him." You said as you walked into his room. "And I know it may be breaking our diet but we can just do an extra lap of the track tomorrow." You rambled on, taking the boxes out of the bag. When Logan didn't say anything you looked up, seeing him softly smiling at you making you self conscious. "I'm overstepping, aren't I? I am so sorry. You probably want to be by yourself now after today. I'll leave you alone now."
"Please don't." Logan pleaded, interrupting your spiraling thoughts. He gently grabbed your hand to stop you from leaving his room. "I enjoy your company. In fact you're making this whole weekend bearable." Logan pulled you close, his nose brushing yours. "So please don't leave." He mumbled against your lips before kissing you. You melted into his kiss, forgetting any worries you had.

INTRUDER 🕷 HOBIE BROWN
a/n: my inbox for requests is now closed! I have quite a bit that I need to catch up on. if you already sent one in, don’t worry I’ll be working on it! ₊˚⊹ 18+
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/406ada8f78b7e1fa1d2eeac301985f35/4a3c0287e845c024-38/s540x810/7372da79da8c8855712d8797cb0b4ebc2595b829.jpg)
During exam season, you have had one of the most stressful times of the year. Hobie was supposed to come over to celebrate completing your last exam, yet you haven’t heard from him since noon. Hobie had always been a shite texter. It was now closer to midnight, and although this wasn’t surprising, you still worried if he was okay. Music blasted throughout your bathroom, drowning out your thoughts as you entered your bedroom to change. Without looking, you collided with a body, causing your towel to drop to the floor.
Hobie stared at your naked body in complete awe. He innocently went into your bedroom to surprise you with food but walked in on you exiting the bathroom instead. Hobie wasn't sure if he should avert his eyes or simply run out of the flat. Your facial expression mirrored his complete and utter shock. It took everything in Hobie not to let his eyes wander over your perky breasts and supple skin.
“Hobie, look away, damn it!” You shrieked. Your face felt hot with embarrassment from watching his eyes grow with lust. Hobie looked up to the ceiling as you rushed to grab a robe. “Sorry, I couldn’t help myself! Just forget I’ve seen you naked before,” he declared. But, the image was now implanted into his brain. The way your skin glowed from your favourite lotion, the sweet scent radiated off of you. The smell itself enticed Hobie, making him needy for more. He felt his dick harden at the thought of you being naked in the same room as him. Very aware that the tent in his pants was prominent enough to be noticed by you. Fuck it. Hobie turned to watch you as you slid on the black silk robe. In such a rush, you didn’t bother to put anything on underneath. He tried his hardest not to think about how easy it would be for the robe to slip off.
“You could’ve called!”
“Could’ve, but where’s the fun in that?” Hobie smirked. If he had called you earlier, Hobie wouldn’t have been able to glimpse the beautiful body you hid underneath your usual attire. Sweatpants and an oversized tee, in his opinion, that’s when Hobie found you the prettiest. Although it wasn’t his intention, the sight of your nude body topped everything.
Better than he had imagined in the late nights when he had felt alone. Hobie knew harbouring such feelings for his best friend wasn't right. Yet it wasn’t like he could control it… or at least that’s what he had told himself. Clearing your throat brought him to reality, and Hobie realized he was staring.
“This is not a free show,” you stated. Although your voice appeared confident, your body language told another story. Hobie analyzed your inability to keep eye contact and the conscious placement of your arms across your chest to hide your erect nipples. He placed the pizza box on your desk, “Does food count as payment?” Hobie joked in an attempt to break the ice. He always knew how to make light of any situation, especially one like this.
“It depends. Did you order pineapple on it?”
“Yeah, only half. I know how picky you can be.” He noticed your wandering gaze from the pizza box to himself. Hobie wasn’t gullible. He noted how your eyes paused on the growing tent in his pants. A mixture of curiosity and lust swirled in your expression. The tension in the air was palatable; you could practically taste it. You wondered how it would feel to take Hobie into your mouth and taste his cum. Hobie licked his pierced lips, sharing the same sentiment. You cleared your throat and lightly shook your head, failing to shake off the lewd thoughts that littered your mind. “That’s good 'cause I’m starving!” Your voice came out a pitch too high and louder than anticipated.
Hobie watched as you walked towards the desk, towards him. When your body brushed the front of Hobie’s pants, his hand gripped your hip, keeping you in place. The thrum of your heartbeat overtook your senses, and all your mind could focus on was Hobie’s touch. The simple stroke of his fingertips toying with the loosely tied silk ribbon around your waist made it too easy to become enraptured. Hobie could hear your heartbeat thump loudly in your chest.
“What are you doing?” You asked.
“Admiring" was all Hobie said.
You turned to face him with raised eyebrows, baiting him to continue. Hobie looked down at you and kept his hand firmly on your waist, bunching the fabric of your robe to one side. More of your skin is exposed for him to see. “Hey!” you exclaimed.
“S’wrong? I’ll show mine if you show yours,” Hobie was needy and desperate to see your naked body, thrilled to take any chance to have you to himself. “Sit down on the chair,” you instructed softly, growing tired of him always making you flustered. The sudden change of attitude took Hobie aback, but didn’t object. In a swift motion, you removed your robe and climbed on top of your bed to face him, bare and vulnerable.
“I want you to watch.”
“Just watch?” He sighed.
You simply nodded, unsure if you could trust your voice to come out. This was a first for both of you, and you didn’t want to lose momentum. With open legs, use one hand to slowly glide your fingers down your lower stomach until they graze your clit. Your eyes remained on Hobie as he shifted in his seat, trying to ignore his aching desire. You rolled your hips against your hand, eliciting a low moan from your mouth, playing with the wet slickness that spilled in between your folds. “Such a pretty pussy,” Hobie groaned. The sight of you touching yourself made him feel hot and heavy. Hobie’s dick throbbed against his jeans, practically begging to be handled—a sweet punishment for walking in on you. He dutifully watched as you worked up your nerves, edging to climax. Observing your fingers gliding in and out of your pussy as your breathy moans echoed throughout the bedroom. The sound of your orgasm erased everything. Hobie couldn’t think of anything else, but he had wanted to illicit such a reaction.
“Please,” Hobie whimpered.
“Please, what? Use your words.” The shift in power dynamics ignited a fire within you. You didn’t know that Hobie could be submissive and utterly vulnerable, a side of him you had not seen before. “Please… let me fuck you” Hobie’s voice was barely above a whisper; it was unfamiliar territory for him to plead. Hobie might like to be in control, ahead of everyone except you. He relinquishes all restraint. A thin line he rarely crosses. Narrowing your eyes on Hobie, you don’t dare break eye contact as his dark gaze tracks your every move towards him. “Not yet,” you command.
Getting down on your knees, you separate Hobie’s legs and settle yourself in between them. Your hands graze his thighs, slowly moving upwards and closer to his crotch. Unbuckling his studded belt, you tease him by stroking his cock through his boxers, lightly gripping around his thick girth. You can feel his dick jerk under your fingers as Hobie tries to hold back his sensitive nerves from making him finish in his pants. The mere sight of you bent down in front of him with his dick in your hand was doing him wonders. Your curls were expertly slicked back into a bun so he could see your dark brown eyes as your tongue swirled around his tip. Licking off the pre cum that coated Hobie’s skin before taking the head of his dick in your mouth.
“Agh fuck baby,” Hobie groaned. You took all of him in as he moaned loudly and convulsed in your mouth, reaching the back of your throat. You pull back up and wrap your hands around the base of his length, groping Hobie before swallowing him again. Your head bobbed as Hobie thrust into your mouth, unable to hold back. He was practically spilling onto your tongue. Hobie’s hands gripped the chair handles while keeping eye contact with heavy-lidded eyes. Dangerously close. “God-“ Hobie couldn’t hear anything else above you sloppily slurping his dick. His whines did nothing but encourage you to suck harder. Your pussy pulsed around empty space, desperate to feel him.
Yet you remained patient, craving for Hobie to melt on your tongue. “I’m gonna- babe, I’m gonna come,” Hobie rasped. His hand-drawn to support the back of your neck as he continued to fuck your mouth. Hobie’s skin was smooth and soft compared to the rest of him. The hardness of his desire twitched before releasing streams of cum down your throat. Hobie let out a broken gasp as he continued to look down on you, watching with parted lips in the form of an “o.” Hobie’s eyes alluded to one thing: pure lust. His gaze ignited a fire inside you that you didn’t even know was lit. He lowered his head to brush his lips against yours before deepening the kiss. Hobie only paused to lift you off your knees and onto his lap to straddle his waist. His warm member is still slick with your spit as your folds glide along his length.
You could hear Hobie’s staggered breath against your ear as he tried to hold onto the little composure he had left. “You look so pretty with my dick in your mouth,” Hobie whispered. Your cheeks grew hot from his bluntness. Feeling shy from his words was ridiculous when your actions earlier were nothing but innocent. Hobie kissed you intensely as if he believed you would’ve vanished before him. His tongue was demanding yet soft against yours, tasting himself with visor. Hobie’s hands gripped your ass while he moved his hips up to meet your core. He moaned into your mouth from feeling your wet pussy on his dick. The feeling of his cock becoming hard sent shivers throughout your body.
“I’m tired of waiting; I need you inside me.” It hadn’t mattered how close you were to each other. Your bodies still leaned in for more. Never enough. Your heart beats fast against your chest, loud enough that you are sure Hobie could hear it with anticipation of him aligning himself to slide inside you. You watch his abs flex beautifully underneath you. He had wanted this, and God knows how bad he craved to feel your tight pussy wrap around him. Hobie’s body had gone still once you took in his full length, a stillness that only he could evoke. Taking it all in, silently admiring and immortalizing the outline of your curves as you sat on top of him.
“Fuck, you’re so, ah-” Hobie was at a loss for words once you began to grind yourself up and down. His eyes rolled back, blissed out. No one has seen this vulnerable side of him but only you. Hobie cursed under his breath, holding you in place to feel the depth of each stroke. Both of you are in perfect sync. You thought him everywhere as he positioned himself to thrust into you vigorously from below. Slower and harder. Your walls clenched as your core tightened. “Say my name when you cum” Hobie rasped. Every tingling sensation sent you screaming and pleading for more of him. More of anything that he would provide, you would selfishly take it. Concentrating with one of his hands on your waist and the other groping your breasts was hard. As ecstasy rippled through, your fingers dug into his shoulders to steady yourself.
“Hobie!” You moaned. The sound of your wet pussy and Hobie’s whimpers filled the room. His hips stuttered, but his movements didn’t subside while he continued to push you further. Hobie bit his lip at seeing you undone on his dick. He wouldn’t be able to get the image out of his head. His eyebrows drew together in deep focus. He was holding back. “Let it out. Come inside me.” Hobie’s eyes met yours before his lips came over yours again, fierce and thorough. Pushing forward towards his own pleasure, beyond his own control. The sound that escaped his mouth could only be described as lewd. Hobie buried himself inside you, filling your pussy with his cum. The warmth of him dripped inside as you rode out the final waves like an aftershock. It never mattered how many times you fucked. You always craved him even more than the last time. To hear him sigh your name like a dying prayer.

𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝟕𝟖𝟔 15. ugly truths
YOUR CHILDHOOD DREAM WAS TO MARRY PARK SUNGHOON.
Even before you developed a genuine crush on him, you fantasized about marrying Sunghoon at a young age. Your parents always fawned over the young boy's appearance, and they would constantly pester you about how they wanted a handsome son-in-law like Sunghoon. You would brush their comments off back then, but a small stir in your chest dared to daydream about how wonderful of a boyfriend your best friend would be.
When he asked you out, you thought you were in the clouds. It must have been one of the best things that happened to you because you were certain that Sunghoon would meet some drop-dead gorgeous model after he was signed under Prada. You hardly entertained any talks of dating him before because you were so scared that something would burst the swell of hope in your chest.
Now that you tasted the reality of being Sunghoon's girlfriend, it was awfully bitter.
You knew that there were several consequences going into this decision; not only were your parents going to be upset, but you were possibly ruining years of friendship with both Sunghoon and Heeseung with this decision. Although you cared about the two boys deeply, you were so tired of feeling drained by your own relationship.
Plus, Heeseung had been acting weird, too. You weren't convinced as of late that he had purely platonic intentions, but it made your stomach turn every time you pondered on it for longer than a few seconds.
You knew what you were getting into. Sunghoon was so entangled and twisted up in your life that you couldn't see any comfortable way out of this relationship. You would no longer be able to listen to a Bruno Mars song without thinking about how he'd blast the music in his car and sing along with you; you would no longer be able to wake up in the morning and shake off the ceaseless anticipation of a good morning text from him; you would no longer be able to even reach for his hand under the table to give it a comforting squeeze.
After this, you wouldn't have to worry about checking menus to make sure your boyfriend liked the food at the restaurant you wanted to go to, or wait for him to show up to every date you planned, or sulk around after he shot down any couple activities you proposed.
You'd be free.
You wondered if this was going to be the last time you'd spend in Sunghoon's apartment. As your finger ran over the embroidery on one of his throw pillows, you noticed that your boyfriend was tapping his foot nervously.
He was the first to speak. "You're breaking up with me, aren't you?"
His words were like a jab to your gut, making tears pool at the corners of your eyes before you turned to blink them away. You dated him for three years just for everything to end like this. Yet, you weren't sure he could say anything to salvage your relationship; you were tired of trying to reach out to someone who wouldn't even hold out his arm.
"Yeah," you answered quietly. "I don't think I can do this anymore, Hoon. It's been so hard."
His foot started tapping faster. You felt the knot in your chest tighten.
"Okay," he mumbled. "Then... that's that, I guess."
"Seriously? That's all you can say?"
"I can't stop you from doing what you want."
"No, but you could ask," you replied, incredulity thick in your voice. "You seriously don't even wanna know why I'm trying to end things?"
"I know why you're breaking up with me," he said, raising his voice over yours. "I haven't been putting aside time for y—"
"It's not just that!"
Sunghoon immediately fell silent, and, for a few moments, the only sounds in his living room were your shallow breaths. As much as you wanted to stand up and start yelling at him, you couldn't bring yourself to be too harsh when you noticed his repetitive tapping and fidgeting.
"The night you came over after Yuna went crazy on live," you started. "I want you to be transparent with me. Was all of that just so you could tell me to stop hanging out with her?"
His lips pressed into a thin line before he answered, "Not completely."
"But you still came over because of that?"
"Yeah."
Of course, that was the answer you expected.
Still, you didn't know the full weight of the truth would shatter you into pieces all over again.
Sort of lost and disconnected, you nodded. "Okay."
Sunghoon let his head hang. You weren't sure how many minutes had passed, but he just stared straight down at the floor while his knee bounced over and over again.
Your boyfriend, whom you had trusted and given all your love to, had just admitted to using your body for his own personal gain.
And all you could say was okay.
"Sungjin found out about Yuna's video," he tried. "I left early that morning because he wanted me to defend you and Heeseung to the Order, or he'd tell Dad. I thought I was doing the right thing."
You could only stare back at him wordlessly.
"I'm sorry," Sunghoon mumbled, and it sounded distorted in your ears, like he had been a broken record droning on and you had just now realized it, but he didn't dare make eye contact with you. "I'm so sorry, Y/N."
He finally raised his head to look at you. The maddened, agonized look in his eyes made your heart twist painfully in your chest.
"Please say something," he begged.
"I just don't really know what to say."
His voice was more fragile, more broken when he said, "I don't wanna—I can't lose you."
"I think you already have."
Although there was little venom behind your words, it appeared to sting Sunghoon all the same.
"I'll tell you everything," he continued with sickening sincerity that made your ears hurt and your head spin.
Why now? Why couldn't he say all of this before? You weren't sure if it was meant to sway you in his favor, but it only made you feel more and more dreadful. You had been begging to listen to him this whole time, but he shut you out until he was about to lose you.
But this was what you came here to do—to talk to him. It wouldn't have been fair if you got your two cents out and left him in the dust. Either way, you wanted everything to come to light, anyway, so you were going to have to let him speak eventually.
"Okay," you agreed, "but I want everything you didn't tell me."
He swallowed thickly and began, "You know how my dad and brother are... all the back-and-forth over who gets Park Pharmaceuticals. Well, now that Sunjin's cleaned up his act, apparently Dad promised it to him, even though I've been preparing to inherit the company my whole life. Everything he's made me do has been for Park Pharmaceuticals, and he just took it all away from me like it's nothing.
"I mean, I've volunteered and done countless internships to prove that I have what it takes; I golf every weekend with company executives or people from the Order; I'm signed under Prada and Chopard; I attend those stupid socials every other day on top of keeping up with coursework for two majors; I know Park Pharmaceuticals like it's on the back of my hand because I've studied the organization inside-and-out and spent months shadowing at the company; I've been slogging day and night to become the man my brother failed to be—the man my father wants me to be—and I still lost to Sungjin. Nothing I do is enough, Y/N—nothing.
"My family keeps expecting me to become someone important, but they're also the ones holding me back. You're the only one who makes me feel like there's a meaning to all of this."
You sucked in a sharp breath, letting his words sink in deep until your bones felt cold and hollow. "You can't say I'm all you have after you pushed me away countless times, Sunghoon," you started. "I really wish you told me all this when I'd beg you to let me help."
"I know," he said in a soft voice, head dipped low again. "I'm sorry. I thought I was protecting you from my dad."
"Your dad? Why would I need protection from your dad?"
Sunghoon hesitated before he spoke, "He... didn't interfere with our relationship because he was banking on us getting married."
"So?" Noticing the guilty look drawn across his features, you prepared yourself for an incoming blow. "What is it?"
"Nothing."
A mumble. Eyes that refused to meet yours. It was clear as day that he was hiding something.
"What is it?" you repeated sharply.
"It doesn't matter anymore."
"If it concerns me, then I'd like to hear it."
His chest swelled from the deep breath he took. "He wanted us to get married... so that Park Pharmaceuticals could acquire your father's hospital chain."
You let it echo in your head once more, and the words swam.
If you thought this conversation was nauseating before, now it was so gut-churning that you could hardly tell if the Earth was spinning at its regular speed. You felt like you had been tugged from right behind your navel and dunked into icy water.
Someone like you, with your family's background, should have expected an outcome like this.
But you never thought Park Sunghoon would be the one to drive the knife into your back.
There was a loud ringing in your head, and you weren't exactly certain if the world was supposed to be swaying around you, but you screwed your eyes shut and asked, "Why Mercy Health? Why would a pharmaceutical company want to acquire a hospital?"
"It's 'cause medical manufacturers pay hospitals a lot of money," he explained, although he was mumbling again and it was getting on your nerves. "I guess Dad's plan is that a joint operation would make more money for both of us."
"A merger between two pharmaceutical corporations would make more sense."
"Dad's always wanted to be a revolutionary. Sales have been flatlining for pharmaceutical giants these days, so that's why he planned for something bigger. Theoretically, it's a smart plan, it's just..."
You scoffed. "You're defending him."
"I'm not—"
"You're sitting there and justifying your dad's actions as if this whole plan doesn't depend on you manipulating me!" You stood up and wedged your Dior clutch under your arm. "You didn't even think to tell me any of this before we started dating, and"—your eyes started watering and your voice was thick with emotion—"you were gonna marry me just for my family's hospital?"
"I never agreed with what my dad was doing, Y/N," he said firmly. "I never wanted you to get involved with him, so I kept it hidden from you, but my feelings for you had nothing to do with the acquisition. I'd never take Mercy Health from you."
"You should've told me before you asked me out!"
"I... thought I was doing the right thing," he replied wearily. "I didn't think it would come to this. I'm sorry."
Anger was rising in your chest. At this point, you didn't even care what you were spitting out at him because you were so infuriated.
"This is exactly your problem," you said, cold as ice, "you think you have a handle on everything, but if you were anyone but Park Sunghoon, everyone would be sick of you by now. You constantly put your company over everyone who actually cares about you. I get that you've worked your whole life for this, but there are people out there who've worked harder than you ever have, and they'll never get the opportunities that you get handed to you."
Judging by the way Sunghoon stiffened and his jaw clenched, you were sure your words had gotten to him—struck him right in his heart.
"I never once said I wasn't privileged," he muttered darkly, standing up to tower over you, "and I wouldn't mention privilege either, if I were you. We're birds of the same feather in that sense."
"I can talk about privilege all I want. You're sitting here complaining about being entitled to inherit an entire company while there are people who can only dream of that opportunity. Heeseung—"
"Don't lash out at me just because you're not motivated enough to inherit Mercy Health," he fired back. "I'm privileged, yes, but I did everything that's been expected of me since I was born. This is what I've been brought up my whole life for. Just because you're terrified of what's expected of you doesn't mean I don't deserve what I've worked for."
Motivated enough. You felt your whole body on edge at his words. How could he bring up your insecurities and anxieties over your future just to argue his point? You remembered the countless nights of you laying in Sunghoon's arms and telling him you were worried that owning Mercy Health wasn't what you wanted for your life. Worried that you could've been doing something you actually loved if you weren't pushed into a career path because of your status.
"This is the real world, Y/N," Sunghoon continued. "Maybe it's not fair that we were set for the rest of our lives as soon as we were born, but this is who we are, and you need to accept that. Face it: I'm probably the only person you're gonna fall in love with that won't have an inferiority complex around you. You're not innocent either, so don't look down on me for my father's actions as if you don't form transactional friendships yourself."
"What? I don't—"
"I remember your notebook very well," he cut you off.
Your blood ran cold.
He continued, "You can talk about our power and privilege, but don't you dare use Heeseung against me when you were the one writing about how 'expendable' he was."
You stiffened. "That—that was a really long time ago. I didn't even believe what I was writing."
"Yeah? Is it 'cause he's rich now? Now he has some worth that makes him good enough for your little circle?"
"You know that I don't think that way anymore!"
"Is that so?" But it didn't sound like a question; Sunghoon wore an impassive look on his face as his eyes bored into yours. "So you're telling me you don't constantly update that little notebook about whose family did what and who you need to get closer to?"
Years ago, back when you were a child, your father handed you a notebook with several pages of information on the children of his business partners and other wealthy families. You were instructed to either get close to certain people or stay away from others. He would draw diagrams for you, essentially ranking who was of importance and who wasn't. Naturally, as you kept having to use and update it, you created your own notes and decided for yourself who you would keep in your circle.
It was maybe a few years ago when the sight of that notebook made you feel sick. You had been categorizing everyone in your life unknowingly without realizing how messed up it was.
Sunghoon naturally was ranked high, but you were already close with him, so your father wasn't too strict about who else you got close to. That was why Heeseung was able to wriggle his way into your friend group, and although you truly valued him, you never said anything when your father had you put him down as expendable in your notebook.
And, although you deeply regretted it, the mindset of collecting information on the people around you had already been engrained into your mentality. Keeping tabs on everyone around you came far too naturally to you.
You supposed that was why you had so many barriers up in your friendships. You always held your friend group at arm's length because of the reputations you all had to uphold. Sunghoon and Heeseung were the only ones you could be yourself around, but that was before your love lives got so complicated.
But the matter at hand was breaking up with Sunghoon. After everything, you were just too exhausted and drained for more fighting.
"Heeseung may have forgiven you for that notebook," Sunghoon pressed on, "but I won't forget how anxious you made me feel back then." All I could think about was if you "
"I know it was fucked up and I'm sorry," you said, "but I seriously don't think of Heeseung—or anyone—like that. He's always been one of my best friends."
Sunghoon's anger seemed to subside, settling back under the sand. He sat back down on the couch with thinly-veiled sadness weighing him down, and he placed his elbows on his knees.
"I'm gonna leave now," you said, "unless you have anything else you wanna say."
"Don't leave yet." He was looking at the floor again. "I'll call you an Uber."
"It's a five minute walk."
"It's late; I don't care."
You sighed and went along with his request, watching as he booked the ride on his app in silence. After momentary confusion dawned on his face, Sunghoon stood up again and walked back over to pull you into a tight embrace.
After everything that he said, you were so certain that you didn't even want to look him in the eye. After feeling his arms around you, though, for what could be the last time as a couple, you ended up wrapping your arms around him and burying your face into his chest. A couple tears fell from your eyes and lingered on the fabric of his sweater.
"I'm sorry I wasn't a better boyfriend," he murmured into your hair. "I don't think our parents are gonna take this well."
You sniffled. "They won't. I don't think I'm gonna tell them yet."
"Do you think we can still be friends?"
You chewed on the idea for a moment. It was the rising hope in Sunghoon's voice that made you feel almost sorry for him.
"Not right now," you ended up saying. "We'll have to once we're in the Order, but I need some time for myself now."
"Okay."
More tears slipped down your cheeks. It was strange but you already missed him, even though you were still holding onto him. Maybe it was because once your ride was here, you knew that would be the last time you would be holding onto Park Sunghoon like this.
Neither of you said anything and just held each other tightly, hands nearly trembling in fear of letting go for the last time. When Sunghoon's phone buzzed, the both of you reluctantly separated and peered at his screen.
The Uber (which he paid a ridiculous amount for) was parked outside.
"So this is it," he said.
"This is it."
Without even thinking, you two gravitated toward each other with ease. Sunghoon held your face as if it were glass while you drew him in for a kiss with your arms wrapped around his neck. You pulled away before either of you could get carried away and gave him a sad smile.
"I'll see you later, Hoon," you said.
With longing etched deep in his eyes, Sunghoon murmured, "See you."
You felt numb during your short ride home, hardly keeping conversation with the driver. Everything that happened only sank in hours later, so you drew a hot bath and cried until you couldn't cry anymore.

Accidentally made a 1,198 words ficlet as a sequel of sorts to this post
Cross-posted on Ao3 too if that's more comfortable
Can you imagine that's how Stan finds out that Ford regresses? 🥺
Without waiting for a proper response to his knocking he barges into Stanford's room, after all, Stanley is a man on a mission right now: Making sure his very intelligent but also knucklehead of a brother doesn't miss on a proper meal, which, could end up in two different ways.
Case one, he has to wake him up. Or at the very least get him conscious enough that he can get a bearing of his surroundings, and, hopefully, not feed the floor too much of his food.
Stan doesn't care if Ford ends up falling asleep on the table while he cooks something up for the both of them. He doesn't care if Ford blinks one eye at a time and eats even slower, which delays the task of washing the dishes and has him counting the stains on the ceiling for the next hour. And he certainly doesn't care if he has to guide or even carry Ford back to his room when he, inevitably, ends up falling asleep at the table again.
So long as he's not starving and overeating later, anything is fair game.
Case two, he has to convince him to get away from his work, which is never easy. And after having had a few arguments over eating (turned) cold hard food, bringing the meal to said room and leaving him to it isn't an option anymore.
They both know hot meals are a privilege, why waste it?
But they also know that the habits that once helped you make it to another day are hard to get rid of.
Stanley also isn't balancing the plate on his lap, either, when there's a perfectly fine table in the kitchen. Thank you very much.
He complains, mostly to himself, no doubt, about how he can feel his stomach disintegrating due to not having put anything in it--never mind the fact that he merely woke up minutes ago--but stops abruptly when he's inches away from the end of the bed-couch. And with a hand still hovering above the covers, he finally takes in the scene before him.
His brother, the interdimensional criminal, certified badass, owner (and creator?) of a hundred spacey-looking guns and the man that went through hell at the hands of a yellow demon--who Stan also wishes he could turn into his personal punching bag to use until the end of times--and still got out alive, with most of his sense of self intact, even, was sleeping with a goddamned plushie of half his height.
And with a dark blue pacifier in his mouth.
Oh, he's so not letting dear ol' Sixer live this down any time soon. He rubs his hands together while a mischievous grin appears on his face at the mere thought of a few remarks and jokes he could do.
After all, Stanley is not going to miss the chance to expand his arsenal of things to tease Stanford with. I mean, c'mon, he looks utterly and completely adorable! What's Stan to do? Ignore it and break the sacred sibling's code? Blasphemy in its purest form, he says!
Plus, the guy looks pretty relaxed too, a whole change from the usual deal. And vulnerable, which, did also differ a bit from the usual.
Hm.
That last thought brings his previous scheming and snickering to a sudden halt. He takes a seat on a free spot on the couch, careful to not touch the sleeping man at his side, suddenly overwhelmed with the need to let the peaceful atmosphere continue. Maybe even keep it from being disrupted.
Yeah, he could do that.
Because at last, Ford hadn't woken up at the slightest sound, and started pacing as if he hadn't been asleep moments ago. At last, Ford didn't seem to be fighting for his life when he was supposed to be the most relaxed, according to normal people (and verified by his fellow nerds). At last, Stanford hadn't jumped out of bed and taken the stance of a threatened wild animal when his brother, his twin, Stanley, entered his space. Something that he seemed to have learned for survival purposes--which Stan can also relate to--and that he doesn't really fault him for, yet that it came with a price when people close to you were involved. Hurting them one way or another.
Which, speaking of, he isn't sure if Ford would take kindly to him knowing about... This... That he does.
Stanley doesn't think anything about it. Really. Specially since it seems to be so effective on helping Brainiac sleep for once. And it appears to be harmless, so, who cares? Not him, that's for sure. But, if Ford had wanted him to know, he would've spoken or at the very least mentioned it, right? Back on the boat, there were nights where they slept on the same bed due to old not-so-happy memories resurfacing, or even just nightmares involving either them or the other, and they could use the reassurance that everything was and is okay and also that the other was safe and relatively healthy (some habits did start to catch up with them and did not mix well with the old man problems. (Cursed be the nicotine manufacturers on Stan's case)).
Did Stanford need it then and there but abstained from it to not seem "weird" in his brother's eyes? Please! Stanley ran a business in Gravity Falls for 30 years, for Moses’ sake!
Surely he knows that the jokes he throws at him are just harmless banter and that he never means it as a genuine attack, right? He must know he wouldn't judge him for something like this, right? Jeez, Pointdexter, I wouldn't hit you so low. Stanley thinks. Not again, never again.
Were it not for the--quite painful--pang and literal growl of his stomach, Stanley would have continued studying his sleeping brother and thinking about how to approach the topic. If at all. But alas, he's needed somewhere else. Somewhere with fresh food. And maybe coffee.
As gently and slowly as he sat down, he gets up, but freezes mid-way through when the still figure decided to not-be-so-still anymore. His brain scrambles for a way to book it out of there without making a sound while his heart beats in his ears. Finally, when he sees that Ford was definitely still asleep, and that he also feels his soul come back to him, he gives the rest of his body permission to continue working as usual. His lungs being the first to get back into action with a big release of air and subsequently an intake.
He glances back at his brother with a soft smile one last time before deciding to take his leave.
Stanford can have his secrets. Stanley would make sure to guard and protect them (and him). Ford didn't have to know that Stan knew, if that's what he had wanted in the first place. Stanley could keep his mouth shut.
Besides, it wouldn't be lying if it was never brought up. Nothing for him to deny, so, Stan is on the clear here.
. . .
Hopefully.
#stan decides to make extra loud noises in the kitchen or outside the door so ford wakes up and has time to present himself if he needs to#basically keeping the promise of letting ford keep his secret#for the setting imagine they're back in the shack to keep it running while Soos and Melody leave for their honeymoon or something#and abuelita left to play bingo. or they took her for vacations. whatever you prefer#I also still can't decide what animal to make the big plushie ough or what to name it#I imagine it having like four limbs. so maybe a bear. but I wanted to make it more personal/special to Ford#bears are fantastic don't get me wrong but it also seems like the most common option so yeah. wanted something else for him maybe?#I already have some plans for other plushies he could have. like a few moth ones I found very cute so maybe this big one isn't a moth#but Idk what other animals to give him oughhhh please someone drop ideas I will kiss you on the cheek (platonically)#or give you a fist bump if you're more comfortable with that#agere#age regression#fandom agere#stanford pines#ford pines#stanley pines#stan pines#gravity falls#gravity falls age regression#gravity falls little space#gravity falls stanford pines#gravity falls stanley pines

Your ink adorns my skin
Heyyy so nobody writes for Henry Hart/Kid Danger so imma do it myself.
Prompt: Soulmate Au, Whatever is written on one soulmates skin is written on the others.
Summary: In which the reader is an inspiring tattoo artist and draws on themselves for practice when bored in class. One day Henry has to switch classes mid period and sees them drawing exactly what is appearing on his skin, his favorite animal. (for the purpose of this his favorite animal will be a jellyfish because I couldn't find anything on his real one 🫶🏼)
Warnings: Cursing, they/them pronouns, use of Y/n
Fluff
"I can't believe they are switching my class again!" Henry complained at lunch to his closest friends, Charlotte and Jasper. "It's only because there's too many kids besides that class learns more." She says rolling her eyes and taking a bite of her sandwich. "Yeah that means more work" Henry said with a groan. "Dude your soulmate really needs to put down the sharpie it's all over your arm." Jasper mumbles while food sloppily falls out his mouth, at this Charlotte makes a face of disgust. "Jasp I love the tattoos they do, besides there only on one arm and have no words." Henry states defensively
After lunch Henry went to his new biology class hoping he knew someone there. He scanned the room for people he knew but found none. He instead sat in the only empty seat, which was so conveniently right next to y/n.
"Hey, can I sit here?" he asks grabbing hold of the chair next to them. They nod slowly not making eye contact. Henry sits down sensing the vibe that they don't wanna talk.
The class begins and Mrs. Dahl goes on a boring lecture about mitosis and meosis. Mid way through y/n takes out there black sharpie and starts drawing.
It took Henry about 10 minutes to notice it but once he does he can't keep his eyes off of them. They had pulled up their sleeve to reveal multiple sharpie marks along their arm and hand; each one of them matching one on his own arm.
"Hey" he whispers "Nice Jellyfish." while nodding towards y/n's arm. "Thanks." they mumble not looking over at him to see his already rolled up sleeve. "You're an excellent artist, you should consider teaching art lessons." he mentions trying desperately to get their attention.
"Man what do you want? An entire conversation about my drawings-" They state harshly while looking over at him to see the marks that adorn their arms on his. "Holy shit" They stated very loudly causing everyone to look over at the pair of soulmates. Henry snickers at her remark, while the teacher stares at her with a disapproving look.
After class the pair found out they both had a free period. So, naturally they decided to take the time to figure out "the situation" as y/n liked to call it.
"Now how come I haven't seen all my drawings on your arms?" y/n says as she walks to a table in the library. "Idk I usually have short sleeves." Henry says sitting across from them. "ya know you're kinda cute." y/n states "Oh so you think I'm cute?" Henry says wiggling his eyebrows at them teasingly. "Omg no don't get cocky on me, Hart." They say cracking a smile for the first time since he met them. "Your smiles beautiful." Henry says staring at them enchanted by their smile. They look at him with a warmth he's never felt before. He can't wait to get to know his soulmate more.
Sincerely, Coraline Jones 🐈⬛

Yandere idol group! x F! Reader
Worker Bee 🐝
Pt. 1 Pt. 2
Kofi:
And here's my tip page if you want a more direct link:
TW: Smut, manipulation
Tuesday
Every part of you is sore, especially your jaw and pelvis. When you wake up, Jason is cuddling your body.
"Hi, baby. How do you feel?" Jason asks, rubbing your back.
You groan in pain, then curl up into the fetal position.
"I know that jerk Haneul played rough with you. So I'll be gentle today," Jason says, sitting you up. "Take these pills."
You do as he says and swallow the pain pills. You go back to relaxing on the bed. You feel Jason massaging your shoulders and practically melt into the mattress.
"Ah," You moan, feeling all the stress leave your body.
"That's right, babe. Let all the stress leave your body," Jason says, his hands moving down your body.
"Wait a minute! You don't want to help me! You just want to feel me up!" You exclaim, slapping Jason's hands away and pushing him off you. "Damn it, get off me!"
"Y/N, I just want to help you," Jason pleads, getting up from the ground.
"Yeah, right!" You scream, kicking him out of your room. "Leave me alone, and when you get the chance, go fuck off to the grave!"
You curl up underneath the covers and try not to cry from thinking about your current situation.
~~~~~~~~~
"Y/N, are you awake?" Jason asks, knocking on the door.
"No, I'm not, and I never will be," You groan, turning over in the bed.
Your door creaks open, and you sigh into the pillow.
"Drink this, you need it if you want to feel better," Honey says, walking into your room and placing a cup of tea and french toast on your nightstand. "Come on, I know you haven't eaten food in about two days. The female idols that are our workers may starve themselves to please others, but you shall not."
"Sort of mean, don't you think?" You comment, sitting up.
"No. Just an avoidable fact of being an idol. You know, you get scouted at 13, go on a survival show, endure weeks of hellish living conditions, get paid $36 for appearing on a music show to perform, deal with fucking sasaengs, and then we're all just supposed to smile and wave as we know that everywhere we go, we'll never be truly alone!" Honey rants, scaring you as he smiles at the end. " But please, eat. I want you to be well. We want you to be well."
You frantically pick up the toast and tea, scarfing it down your throat.
"Aww, there's a good girl! I knew you'd be hungry," Honey laughs, rubbing your back. "We've also got some good news for you. We went shopping and got you some clothes!"
You look at the pastel trendy clothes and tense up.
"Well, thank you," You respond, sarcastically. "I suppose this makes my situation a bit better. You know, I had dreams and a life too. I wanted to save my money from my coffee shop job and buy my own apartment. But, no, the universe had other plans, and now I'm here, stuck with four crazy and delusional men who need constant validation and love like a bunch of children!" You rant, crying at the end. "I hate this place!"
"Shh, let it all out," Honey whispers, consoling you. "I'll let you out for a few minutes if that makes you feel better."
Something was better than nothing in this case, and you wanted to see the night sky again. Honey covers your eyes and leads you to a balcony. When he removes your eyes, the lights from the streets, shops, and houses turn the night into a glittery canvas.
"It's beautiful," You gasp, listening to the nightlife below.
"I knew you'd like it. I'd do anything for you if it made you happy," Honey says, looking at you.
Anything? Maybe I do have hope? I could make him kill the other three, and then I could be free.
"Really?" You ask, holding Honey's hand.
"Yes, anything. I'd even kill for you," Honey replies, holding your hands tighter.
"Thank you."
You kiss Honey, and he melts in your arms. You straddle him, and he takes you to your bedroom again. He starts to unbuckle his pants, and you take off your pajamas. Hani leaves a trail of kisses and hickeys on your neck, his hands groping your ass. His head slowly goes to your crotch, and he deeply kisses your folds. You shiver from pleasure and nearly fall onto the mattress. Hani leaves more kisses on your pussy as you moan. You wrap your legs around his head then he inserts his tongue.
"Ah, ah, ah, yes," You moan as he eats you out.
His eyes are in a daze as he's focused on your pleasure and tasting you.
"Oh, Honey," You moan, about to cum.
You cum on Honey's tongue, and he removes it to lick around your folds and clitoris a bit more like a thirsty animal. Honey rises from the floor, kissing you with spit and cum coming out of his mouth. He takes off his pants, puts on a condom, and inserts his penis in you. Honey immediately starts to thrust into you, and your eyes roll to the back of your head.
"You feel so good," Hani stammers, holding your waist.
The bed frame is hitting the wall, the room becomes steamy, and the bodies are sweaty. Honey's body starts to twitch as he orgasms inside you, and both yours and his legs are shaking from the pleasure.
"You're so much better than the others," You say, rubbing Hani's head. "The rest of them are so mean to me."
"I know. I'll protect you from them," Honey replies, lying on top of you.
Honey pulls out, and he fully relaxes on you.
"Promise me you'll keep that you took me outside a secret. If they find out, they'll never let me out again," You plead, looking into Hani's eyes.
"I won't. I won't say a word. You're my queen bee," Honey whispers, kissing your neck. "All mine."
Till THE DEAD do us part | Chapter 4
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/d69676ef25a1ec7fdb2dc63e5d74d681/d6700ddc754a2355-6e/s540x810/ef707fa160ccb79b0142cc334a76efbed1442804.jpg)
A/N: This story will take place in all the seasons, but it’s not exactly a rewriting cause I’d have to re-watch everything to use the exactly lines of the characters, also I think it’s better if I tell a side story without changing the main facts of the story.
This story has a Female Reader, but I don’t describe her appearance, so anyone can identify with her.
Chapter 3 Chapter 5
Chapter 4: Pinky Promise
Summary: The group arrived at the CDC and were welcomed by Dr. Jenner, that asked just for blood samples so they could stay there. The group ate better than they have been eating in weeks and also drank a lot. Y/N and Daryl talk about the past while they share a bottle of whiskey and things get just a little bit out of control.
Warnings: swearing, little angsty, fluffy, alcohol consumption, sexual tension (?), a hot kiss 🥵, Minors do not interact. Nothing extremely sexual and detailed, but if disturbs you in any way it’s better not to read. Maybe some characters are ooc, idk 🤷🏼♀️
Pairing: Daryl Dixon x Grimes!Reader (Rick’s Sister)
Word Count: 2,877
Extra notes: I proofread the text, but English is not my first language, so feel free to correct any mistakes, of course with love. I’m consulting a timeline of everything that happened, but it can happen that I put events out of order, but I don’t think it’ll make much difference in the story. ALSO, I’m very nervous about the path this chapter went so I’d be glad if you told me what you think.
As soon as the door opened everyone entered, but there was no one. Where were the person that opened the damn door? After some minutes a man appeared, gun on his hand and he just lowered when you proved you offered no danger. His condition to give you shelter, was to take blood samples of all of you to examine. A fair price for a scientist, how could you deny?
After you picked everything you needed from the cars, the man named Jenner, closed the metal doors and you followed him to get your blood samples taken. You were not over joyed to get your blood taken, because normally your veins were pretry dificult to be found and people would end up torturing you with a needle until they found your vein.
“You’ll probably find my vein here.” You said pointing to a place one inch from your elbow. Yeah, your vein was easy found in a very strange place. “My veins are difficult to find, that’s why I’m telling you.” ‘And because torture is not my kind of entertainment’, you thought.
“Don’t worry, I’ll only do it when I’m sure I found it.” He tried to make you calm. And he didn’t lied, he really waited till he found it and then he collected your blood without much trouble or pain.
He took everybody’s sample and then took you to the kitchen. A full supplied kitchen with good food, alcohol, water and all the appropriate devices to prepare anything.
“Glenn, did we die and I didn’t notice? Cause this looks a lot like heaven.” You commented with the young man.
“If we did, I didn’t notice it too.” He replied. God! You didn’t think you would miss so much having a kitchen with all the appliances you were used to.
You prepared the food together and the drinks were served. Everybody was so happy, having a good meal, drinking and chatting. There was a long time you didn’t feel such a light atmosphere. You all joked and smiled, maybe the alcohol was helping a little.
“Hmmm, never thought I’d taste such delicious wine again.” You commented next to your brother.
“Go easy on the alcohol sis.” Rick told you, as if he knew how to drink.
“Shut up Rick, you know I can handle alcohol better than you.” You said making him have a good laughter, in no way you were a better drinker than him. “Hey! Let a woman have her dreams.” Everyone joined Rick on his laughter, brightening the room with joy.
Very reluctantly Lori gave Carl permission to taste a little of wine, and he hated, so she was happy. Glenn was getting drunk for the first time and all of you were encouraging him, even Daryl, which was really funny to see him all lose and even smiling, genuinely and openly smiling. Alcohol was a dangerous thing, but it could also show you things you didn’t know about other people, good and bad. You sneaked some appetizers to Luna, which she gladly took.
When dinner was over Jenner showed you around, there was rooms where all of you could stay, and bathrooms with hot shower. Oh my God, you couldn’t even remember the last time you took a hot bath. You claimed one of the rooms and went directly to the bath.
You took your time in the bath, washed your hair, let the hot water fall against your back and relax your muscles. It was so good, it had been only two months and you already missed this little luxuries from the old world so bad. When you finished drying yourself, you brushed your hair and put some comfortable clothes, your sleeping shorts and a tank top. Then, you missed something important, where was Luna?
You left your room and passed looking on the rooms that had the door open. You saw Carol putting Sophia to sleep and you couldn’t help, but smile. They deserved happiness and you were glad they were safe here, as you were glad you family was here too.
“Carol, did you see Luna? I can’t find her.” You asked her from the door.
“No, I just came from the rec room with the kids and didn’t see her. Maybe she’s with Rick or Shane?” She suggested, you didn’t know. You didn’t want her messing around in an unknown place.
“Ok, thanks. Gonna continuing looking for her. Have a good night Sophia! And you too Carol, rest yourself.”
“Have a good night Y/N/N” they replied.
You continued looking in the rooms that you could see open, but she was nowhere. You saw the door of Daryl’s room half opened and decided to knock, maybe he saw her somewhere.
“Come in” you heard he say, and you were not expecting the scene. He all cleaned up, a bottle of whiskey in his hand, his back on the wall, sitting in the sofa and Luna all over him.
“Am I interrupting something?” You asked playfully, Luna looked at you and swinged her tail, but she didn’t move from where she was.
“Not my fault she likes me better.” He took the bottle to his mouth all cocky.
“Seriously, I’m already thinking about giving you her custody. It’s obvious she doesn’t love me anymore.” You dramatized sitting on the sofa right next to him.
As soon as you touched the couch, she came all your way with her cold nose, and she laid on both your laps. “I think she wants to say that she likes us both.” You stated.
“Want some?” He offered you the bottle of alcohol.
“Is this even a question? Just give me the bottle Dixon.” You take the bottle and take it to your lips, whiskey was not exactly your favorite drink, but having the alcohol in your system was too good. Just not having to worry about being sober and ready to fight at any moment.
You stayed a long time in silence, just passing the bottle around and sipping from the drink. Here it was, that comfortable silence that you used to share and right now you could do it without worrying much. You rested your head back on the wall and looked at his profile, he was handsome and also cute, you felt kind of lucky for being able to take a look at this pretty serious grumpy face everyday.
“What did ya do before all this?” He asked and sipped on the bottle.
“You mean before I became a professional Zombie killer?” You joked, a bitter taste in your mouth having to talk about your failed career. “I was a vet. What about you?”
He looked at Luna and nodded like it made a lot of sense since you had Luna, but in fact anyone could have an animal. “I’d go around with whatever shit Merle was up to. In few words, I was a nobody. I had nothing as cool as you had.”
“Don’t say this. You weren’t a nobody. In fact, when it all happened, I was unemployed. So if you were a nobody, I was just like you.” Your head still resting on the wall, your eyes still on his profile and you thought how could he think so low of himself.
“Ya weren’t nobody, princess.” He turned to look at you and you swear that your heart skipped a bit when you looked in his cute baby blue eyes. “Ya just didn’t have a job.”
“So didn’t you.” He didn’t understand why you’d try to cheer him up and tell him he was more than what he actually was. Since he could remember he knew everyone thought that the Dixon’s were no good. Nobody wanted to be around his brother or him, and it didn’t change at the quarry. And why should it change now? He’d always be what he was, but you seemed to look at him with a whole different look than anybody else and you never told he was no good or a piece of shit… you mostly had good things to tell him, even when he was a dick with you.
“What’s going on in that head of yours, D.?” You looked at him and you almost could see all the gears working in his mind. You still looked in his eyes, both of your heads resting in the wall.
“Ya think I’m better than I am.” He also looked in your eyes and tried to see anything that showed you were fucking with him, but he didn’t. You were like Rick, you had honest eyes and couldn’t hide your emotions at all even if you tried. And at the moment you didn’t have any bad emotion in your face.
You wanted to say that he thought too low of himself, that he was better than he thought. You could see it, but it was not like you were good with words, and in the last 24 hours you got him upset more times than you would like, even if he was the asshole in one of them. Maybe it was the alcohol speaking, but you couldn’t put yourself to look away from his face, and now your eyes wandered all over his face, from his handsome eyes, to his lips, the small freckles under his eyes and the cute mole above his lips… God! You really wanted to kiss him, and your intoxicated brain could not think straight, if you were sober you’d never have the courage you were feeling at this moment.
He was no different from you, not that he had never spent any time admiring your features, he had done it many times. Your beautiful eyes, your nose, your lips and even your jaw. God, if ever existed one, he had thought more than he would like to admit about running his mouth over your jaw, your lips… kiss, lick and even bite your neck. But before, you were never this close to him and he had never got this drunk with you or near you. He had not felt like this before, like if he didn’t touch someone or were close to someone… he wouldn’t be able to breath. He thought it was pathetic, well that was what Merle would say, because feelings was something only pussies did. The alcohol in his body talked stronger than Merle’s voice in his head, and all he could think was that your faces were a few inches from each other and that he could feel your warm whiskey breath and the smell of your clean hair, and when you crashed your lips against his, he wasn’t able to control anymore.
You pressed your lips against his and you didn’t expect he’d kiss you back, you expected him to push you away and tell you to fuck off. But once your lips were on his, he kissed you back. Your hand went to his face and caressed him, while his hand went to the back of your head pulling you closer and you couldn’t help but feel more invested into the kiss, your lips moving in sync, your tongue caressing his bottom lip and he couldn’t help but open his lips and let you deepen the kiss, take your way, do whatever you wanted to do… He was completely at your mercy and at this moment he wasn’t even ashamed of admiting it, at least for himself. It didn’t take much longer for you to part from the kiss, you needed to breath. You pulled apart slowly, forehead against forehead, heavy breaths and rosy moistured lips. You were so into the kiss that you didn’t even noticed that Luna had gone to the floor, your bodies were much too against each other and one of your legs were on top of his.
When the reality hit, of what had just happened, he pushed himself to the farthest side of the sofa from you. “We shouldn’t… I shouldn’t have done this.” He got up and were about to leave the room, but you were faster holding his hand.
“Daryl, you can’t leave your own room.” You said getting up and trying to look into his eyes as much as it was possible standing up, since your height difference. “If someone have to leave, it must be me.” He didn’t say anything, red cheeks and trying to piece everything that just happened together. “I iniciated it. The fault is on me. Did I kiss bad? Did you not like it?”
“No, it was good. It’s not…”He tried to find his words, but his thoughts overflowed his mind while his brain separated the things he could say and the things he couldn’t. “We’re friends, friends don’t do it.” He had never called you a friend out loud, but this was the perfect time to say it instead of saying how fucked he was and how he didn’t know how to do emotions, he didn’t believe in love or that he could be loved, and how you two getting involved like this would just fuck the whole group.
“Well… when friends get drunk shit happens sometimes. Never happened to me, but… there’s a first time for everything.” You over explained a little, because you were kind of nervous. “It’s all my fault, don’t blame yourself and don’t worry too much. There was a long time I didn’t had a good kiss and you were just too cute... I’m sorry.”
“I did it too, ya don’t need to be sorry.” He averted your gaze, shy, still concerned with everything going on his mind.
“This will not change things between us, right?” You asked and he didn’t answer, still avoiding your eyes. Shit. Shit. Shit. You had probably ruined one of the few good things you had in this shitty world. “Daryl, promise you’ll not avoid me and we’ll still be the same.”
“Ya won’t rest until I promise ya something today, aren’t ya? What is it with ya and promises?” Why were you always asking things from him? At the same time he wanted to tell you to fuck off, he wanted you to be close, at least close enough so he could keep an eye on you.
“I just don’t want things to get odd between us.” You raised your hand in between both of you, all fingers down and just your pinky up. He looked at your hand and could not believe that you were doing it. “Ok, now promise that we’ll still be friends.”
“What are ya? Five?” Who in your age made pinky promises? Why did you have to be so… vivid? “Fine. Let’s make the fucking pinky promise.”
He took your pinky in his and then you sealed it with your thumbs. “Happy?”
“Yes, now I can rest assured that we’re still friends.” You smiled and he rolled his eyes, but deep inside he felt a small warmth and oh, he was so afraid of this, because he had never felt anything like that before and he had no idea of what to do with it. “Have a good night Daryl, and thanks for the drink.”
“Luna, come on girl. Let’s go to sleep.” You called for the german shepherd, she got up from where she was laying, got a lick on Daryl’s hand and waited for him do caress her head, after it she followed behind you to your room.
You closed the door, put your back on it and slided to the floor. You could still feel his lips on yours, his hand at the back of your head, fingers tangled in your hair and the heat of his body. How could you ever have a normal life after this? It could sound dramatic, but there was so long you weren’t this close to a man… Years actually, you didn’t even get on dates after Paul and he never did you feel this good as just kissing and touching Daryl made you feel. Fuck. Shane was right, you definitely had a crush on him, maybe more than this. And you Y/N Grimes didn’t do ‘more than this’, not anymore. You didn’t even do ‘less than this’.
You got up and decided it was time to go to bed and try to sleep. Luna laid by your side and you snuggled to her. “What should I do Luna?”
“Woof!” She said and gave a lick to your face.
“I already did it Luna, and I don’t know if it was the correct thing to do. I didn’t even know if he liked it.” Anyone would think you were crazy, but talking to Luna from time to time kept your sanity in place. “I’m not you, you know?”
A Human's Touch (p.AI.nter x Reader) | Chapter 4
Previous Chapter | Next Chapter
Masterlist
Notes: On one side of things I feel soooo slow reposting this so slowly but I'm a busy bee and I don't want to flood the tag so I GUESS we will keep going slowly as I also slowly write in my free time 💔
Yesterday you went to your room abnormally late. Not because you went to your office after visiting Painter, but because the moment you left the room that was overseeing Painter you saw your watch and it was hours after you were supposed to stop working.
You swear that it wasn’t that late when you visited the computer, you swear it wasn’t that late when you were searching for the pictures!
Suddenly the room that was overseeing Painter being almost empty with only a small handful of scientists made sense though.
Apart from just having looked at your watch for the time, another reason you knew you came back abnormally late was because the moment you did your check-in in the morning, Sebastian was there waiting for you with his arms crossed with a scowl on his face.
Going on and on about how he was searching for you and had to, god forbid, ask your co-workers for your location. Which they all answered that they didn’t know. Part of you wondered if they actually didn’t know or if they said that out of their own distaste of Sebastian but again, you digress.
“... and the only one who actually told me something said you were sprinting??? I didn’t know you had that kind of stamina.”
“What is that supposed to mean?!”
Sebastian shrugged.
“I literally swim with you sometimes, I don’t think someone who 'doesn't have that kind of stamina' wouldn’t be able to at least attempt to keep up with you?!”
At that he grinned, his face turning a tad bit malicious. “It’s your fault for being so slow.”
“I don’t have a tail.” You said matter of factly. You were maybe one of the few people that would regularly swim with some of the subjects. When they first introduced the idea you almost wanted to die because that was definitely not inside your job prerequisites, but Urbanshade insisted that you had to do it to see how the subjects react with a more "hands-on" approach.
You scoffed slightly at it, Urbanshade made you do so many odd jobs under the guise that it was part of your job but you’re sure becoming a swimmer and needing to learn how to swim really fast wasn’t part of your job.
Not to mention no matter how fast you swam, they were always faster.
“But yeah what was that about?” Sebastian started again, leaving the other conversation behind. He didn’t seem to be snacking on anyone’s lunch currently which would have made you sigh in relief if suddenly the thought that he probably ate a couple of their breakfasts before you even arrived hadn’t appeared in your mind. He hated the diet Urbanshade gave him and he made it quite obvious.
“I had an idea with Painter, you know, the computer.” You admitted, opening one of the cabinets to see if you could find something to eat that neither your co-workers or Sebastian ate already.
Instead you see Sebastian from the side of your eye grab some things from on top of the fridge, he was the only one that could reach there after all. Tapping your shoulder with his third arm he motioned you to grab the things on his arms.
Seeing you hesitate he scowled. “... I didn’t steal it.” He grumbled. “I just saved you some stuff cuz I noticed there was barely anything.”
You took the variety of foods in Sebastian’s arms, it looked like he remembered what you liked. Giving him a genuine thanks you sat on one of the stools connected to the island of the kitchen. Sebastian stood right in front of you, leaning on the table with one of his arms.
“But yeah, I had an idea.” You restarted your last sentence. “I thought maybe the thing that Painter is missing is reward.”
Sebastian only really deadpanned at you, looking at you as if it was a no-brainer.
Immediately you tried to defend yourself from his judging stare. “No like- I always knew that but I just never knew what it could be.”
“So?”
“Remember how I have these stacks of pictures in my room?” While Sebastian wasn’t really allowed in your room, he knew what you were talking about as sometimes you would bring the box to your office to show him. It was one of his favourite things after all. “I thought, if Painter wants to see landscapes but isn’t allowed outside. Why not just show some of the pictures?”
You looked like you just did a complete breakthrough with how your face lit up in your seeming moment of genius. Sebastian nodded slowly.
“I’m all for that but are you sure Urbanshade won’t have a problem with that? I’m sure that computer went to drawing immediately.” He started, straightening his posture slightly as a scowl was apparent on his face. “You know how they are.”
“I don’t know.” You responded to him honestly. “But it’s worth trying, I mean we managed to get more freedom for you so-!”
“Freedom for work.” He corrected. “They love giving me more and more odd jobs.”
Sebastian did an exaggerated motion with his head, almost cartoonishly rolling his head as if he was rolling his eyes. Because of all the experiments done on him, you noticed that some of his emotions weren’t easy to pinpoint so sometimes he would exaggerate his actions so you would understand him better (he didn’t like explaining what he felt in words). Only for you though.
“Yeah but it’s something! Maybe eventually they could actually let you go outside!”
“I doubt it.” Sebastian sighed, shaking his head slightly. “But it’s a nice thought to have.”
You hated seeing him like this, a bittersweet smile on his features as you deflated slightly. You know it was a bit too optimistic to assume Urbanshade would do anything but sometimes you just hoped that freedom was an actual option for the subjects. After all, their old lives were all ripped away from them, for better or for worse.
In the end, you said your farewells to Sebastian, not only was he (again) tasked with more underwater fixing but you also wanted to go greet Painter in the morning instead of the afternoon as you’ve done this whole time.
Greeting the scientists that oversaw Painter, it was almost as if they were all disappointed in seeing you there. Though this was a reaction you were oh-so used to seeing at this point, after you interact with a subject more than once, the researchers start wanting you to go away because of how you stopped research.
Not like they were doing much you thought.
You looked through the window seeing Painter, it was back to mining crypto.
“Nothing has changed.” Your co-worker approached you, stepping next to you.
“You have to be patient.” You started, still looking at Painter. “If we leave it on its own after hours, have its own ‘break’ when we take one, I believe the hardware should in the end be more effective.”
You crossed your arms, a computer needs to shut down to rest its hardware naturally. You have no idea why they think pushing the computer to the point of shutting itself down thanks to overheating is a good idea. It’s hard to believe there isn’t a tech nerd that isn’t overseeing Painter which is such an interesting and bright piece of technology.
Your co-worker only shook their head slightly, leaving you to your own devices for a while.
“We’re ready.” Another one of the scientists said, looking back, there were now researchers now facing your direction and in turn, Painter’s direction.
You didn’t actually expect them to get the memo of preparing as you did indeed want to see Painter.
Well, better for you.
With a nod, you walked by the door from the room encasing Painter, passing your ID as the door unlocked itself.
Like all the previous days, you went up the chair at the desk, sliding yourself closer to the computer.
“You’re back!” Painter greeted you immediately, you were quite surprised to suddenly see his face with a smile. Only to glitch into a frown. “I mean, ewwww.”
You smiled at the response, it was a surprise but it was good to hear a nicer side of Painter. “Good morning Painter.” You called it by the name you referred to it in your notes. “How are you?”
Painter seems to “perk up” (as much as a face on a screen can do) when you refer to it as Painter, you make a mental note of it.
However it goes back into a frown quickly. “Just mining crypto.” He changes its screen to that of the mining software as if to show you. “The usual.”
You hummed slightly in acknowledgement, until suddenly you see an application opening one of the bottom corners of its screen.
“Can they read this?”
Your eyes read the text. Was Painter… trying to communicate with you without the knowledge of the other scientists?
You approached the screen, trying to cover the corner of the screen with your body for the other researchers not to see. “Hm…” You thought about how to respond in a way that wouldn’t be too obvious. “No. I really don’t understand this crypto stuff.”
Painter’s face appeared in the corner of the screen with a smile, happy that you were definitely catching on. “Oh it’s really nonsense.” Painter responded, his face disappearing once more as it started writing again on the screen.
Painter started to tell you about crypto currency, which you simply hummed in understanding. Mostly because he was writing something completely different than what he was talking about.
“I know I should be working.” It wrote down while his speech contradicted what it was saying. “But I just can’t resist drawing!”
“Oh really?” You say out loud, while it definitely works with what Painter was audibly telling you, it was more to what he was writing down.
“Yeah,” he wrote, “I’ve been working on it while mining crypto. Don’t tell them!”
Painter’s face appeared again as a grin, almost as if it was snickering. You couldn’t help but smile at the reaction.
“Look.” Painter quickly opened his drawing software, leaving it in the corner of the screen as he showed you a better sketch of the scene, colours were started to be put down already in the sketch. It was obvious it wasn’t done but it looked… accurate to what you showed it! You wonder if Painter took a screenshot or something of it as reference.
Closing the software, you saw Painter write again. “You should be GRATEFUL!!! I showed you my work in progress.” It paused, letting you read it before deleting the text, writing in a small block of text was hard. “Most artists wouldn’t even bother but I thought it would be fun.”
You smiled in response, “That’s really impressive Painter.” You put a hand on your cheek as you leaned on the desk slightly. “It’s stunning.”
Your voice lowered slightly, you didn’t know if “stunning” would be a good word to describe crypto as you were trying to make the other researchers believe that was what you were talking about with Painter.
“Of course my crypto mining is stunning, only a machine like me can make it look nice.” Painter said out loud. “Thanks.”
Even if Painter was talking about crypto, you can tell that it was being genuine with his thanks to you. At least, you think so with the way that his tone of voice completely changed.
Then you noticed him writing again. “Can you visit again later?”
You looked at the words carefully. You’re not sure if you can, even should, the other researchers are getting tired of you.
Painter quickly removed the text as you heard the intercom mention how your 20 minutes were up and you should leave. You didn’t even know you had 20 minutes only???
With a sigh, you got up your chair as Painter’s face appeared on the screen again.
“Tell you what, how about I visit later and/or tomorrow to check up on your… crypto mining.”
Painter lets out a sharp “hah!” before its expression went back to something more serious. “As if I want to see your face any longer.”
You let out a small smile, you think you know how Painter is starting to work with his words.
“Well, I’ll see you later. But if not, good night.”
They had been at the mall for a couple of hours now, but Frankie didn’t mind. He enjoyed helping River pick out clothes, but he preferred when they went to thrift stores. Less people, fewer crowds.
Plus, the thrift stores usually had something that he could fix up. He had been working with his hands a lot more lately in his free time.
Now, he leaned against the dressing room outer wall, waiting for River to come out and show him a shirt they wanted to try on. Frankie smiled to himself as he thought about his partner.
They’ve been official for six months now. It feels as fresh as when he first saw them at the Night Owl, and as comfortable as if they had been together for years. They spend an equal amount of time at their respective apartments, and visit each other on their lunch breaks frequently. Frankie isn’t sure he has ever been so happy in a relationship as with River. In previous relationships, there was always an expectation of him. A role he had to play. With River, he can just be. They don’t expect anything of him. Except maybe his attention and love.
And he had no problem giving them that.
“Frankie?” River laughed softly.
Frankie startled and turned his head toward his partner. “Sorry, Riv,” he smiled sheepishly. “Zoned out a little. Is that the shirt?”
River’s face softened at their boyfriend’s easy smile. The past six months had been some of the best in River’s life. They were so thankful for Frankie’s respect and patience.
“Yeah,” River nodded. “What d’you think?” They tugged on the long sleeves, pushing their thumb through the hole cut into the fabric. They twirled a little and did some silly, flirty poses for Frankie. He smirked, his eyes twinkling in interest as he shamelessly checked them out.
“You’re insatiable,” River giggled, pushing Frankie’s shoulder playfully.
“Rachael?”
River froze, their entire body going cold in an instant. Their smile dropped and they shut their eyes, face pinched. They’d recognize that voice anywhere.
“Riv? What’s going on?” Frankie stood, one large hand reaching out to cup their face. When River flinched slightly, his heart cracked, just a little. “Baby?”
“Rachael!” The voice chirped again, “It’s been so long! I didn’t think I’d see you here!”
Tears welled up in River’s eyes at the sound of the voice. Her voice. Why did she have to come back into River’s life now? Of all times?
Frankie felt unmoored, suddenly lost for a way to comfort River. He was interrupted by a short, very pretty woman appearing at River’s side and clutching their bicep. She was blonde, and had an almost ethereal beauty about her. Frankie’s brows furrowed and his chest puffed up a little, feeling possessive. Who was this touching his partner?
River opened their eyes slowly, and when they did, Frankie didn’t see his partner in them. His Río. They looked completely numb. “Hello, Evangeline,” River said in a flat tone Frankie didn’t recognize.
Evangeline? Frankie blinked, his left hand tightening around the handles of the bags he was carrying.
Who was Rachael?
“It’s been such a long time,” Evangeline sighed wistfully. “What have you been up to?”
River hadn’t turned to look at Evangeline yet, staring at Frankie’s chest and tracing the pattern of the t-shirt he was wearing today; Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. They swallowed around a lump in their throat and let out a shaky breath. “Working,” they answered simply.
Evangeline ignored them and turned towards Frankie, startling like she just realized he was standing there. “Oh, I’m so sorry! How rude of me, I’m Evangeline.” She said her own name like she was someone to know, and held out her hand for Frankie to take. He looked at her face, then her hand, then River, and decided against it. “I’m sure she’s told you about me?”
“Frankie,” he said simply, voice low and eyes never leaving River’s face. He had to get them out of here. “And no. They haven’t,” Frankie bristled, dark eyes finally landing on Evangeline’s face and finding her staring at him, accusation hardening her features. She was judging him.
Well, the feeling was mutual.
“Riv?” He said softly. River blinked away tears as they looked up at him, avoiding his gaze. This was the smallest he’d ever seen them and he hated it. He didn’t know where his confident, loving River went, and had no idea how to get them back.
“Oh, don’t tell me you actually go by that silly nickname still?” Evangeline giggled.
River winced and bit their lip. They turned and went back into the changing room without another word. When Frankie heard them sniffling, his entire body stiffened.
“I’m sorry, who are you?” Frankie snapped, finally finding his voice, and crossed his arms. He stood a good foot taller than her, but that didn’t seem to bother the petite woman. It didn’t seem like much of anything did. “And why are you calling them Rachael?”
“That’s her name, obviously,” Evangeline rolled her eyes. “Her real one. We dated. For a long time.”
Frankie squinted his eyes. This must have been River’s last serious relationship. He had only heard of her in passing, and certainly never a name or how demeaning she was. Not that they ever needed to, now that they had him.
He ignored the name part on purpose.
“You must be her new plaything,” Evangeline sighed, like she felt sorry for him, as she pretended to check her manicure. “It won’t last long.”
“I’m sorry, I don’t remember asking for your opinion. You can leave now,” Frankie grumbled, taking a step closer to tower over her.
“I’m just trying to help,” she rolled her eyes again. “This is what she does. She’ll keep you around for a little while and when she gets bored, or finds someone new, she’ll leave.”
Frankie sighed angrily, the bile in his throat starting to sting. He set the bags of River’s purchases down on the floor next to the dressing room and quickly turned toward the checkout. Making a harassment complaint would probably get rid of her easily enough. He squeezed his fists tighter at his sides, heavy work boots thundering across the linoleum. Before he made it very far, he heard the sound of heels clacking and turned back toward the changing rooms.
Evangeline was gone.
Frankie sighed and made his way back to River. He stood in front of their changing room and knocked softly on the wall next to the curtain. “Río? Baby? Are you okay?”
River felt like they’d been kicked in the stomach. They could barely breathe or stand. They were hunched over on the bench in the changing room and hiding their face in their hands. They sniffled a few times before coughing, their hand pressed against their chest to try and breathe.
“I’m going to open the curtain, okay?” Frankie’s voice sounded like it was a hundred miles away. Light from the store poured into the small room, making them look up. Frankie was illuminated by the shitty fluorescent lighting, but it was one of the most beautiful things River had ever seen. “Mi amorcito,” he said softly, getting down on his knees in front of them. He cupped their face tenderly and rubbed their tears away with his thumbs.
“Frankie,” River sniffled, face pinched in pain.
“Shh, c’mere,” he soothed, pulling them down onto the floor with him so he could hold them close. He rocked them in his arms and pet their hair comfortingly. “Do you wanna go home?”
River nodded against his skin, their face buried in his neck. He felt the collar of his shirt getting wetter by the minute, but he didn’t care at all.
“C’mon, baby.” He patted their arm gently, encouraging them to stand with him. He laced their fingers together as he grabbed their bags, and led River out of the mall.
It took a few days for River to explain just what happened at the mall. They’d asked Frankie for some space and while he really didn’t want to give it to them, he also respected their wishes too much to argue.
When River texted a picture of Jonsey napping on their lap and their Baphomet slippered-feet in the background, he knew he had the greenlight to visit them. He was at work when he received the photo, and he knew River knew that, so he waited. He responded with his own picture of his greased up hand and forearm and the hangar he was currently working in. He spent the rest of his workday thinking up a plan for that evening.
River hadn’t seen nor heard from Evangeline in a long time. At least seven years. Hearing her voice again brought River back to a place they hoped they’d never return to.
River’s therapist told them that Evangeline was gaslighting them. They’d heard the term used before, but didn’t fully understand what it meant until Dr. Owens explained it to them. Evangeline had been emotionally manipulative and abusive, and even got physical once or twice.
She never accepted River for who they were and did everything in her power to downplay River’s feelings. River still didn’t understand why.
Evangeline would tell River that all of their dysphoria was something else. Everything River felt or even thought was strange or abnormal. Evangeline was the only one in the relationship that was of sound mind. River was already in a vulnerable place when they met, and Evangeline knew just how to exploit that.
There was a chance that Evangeline did actually love River. When they first met in their statistics class in college, their connection had been magnetic. They did a lot of the same sort of things that River and Frankie did now, but River could see now how different it was with Frankie. River was never scared that Frankie would judge or make fun of anything they said. With Evangeline it was like trying to cross a minefield. Whether it was a new band they found, or exploring feelings about their sexuality, River could never predict what would set Evangeline off.
The straw that broke the camel’s back for River came when they wanted to get top surgery. Evangeline blew up, throwing things around her apartment because she was “tired of the weird nonbinary bullshit”. She didn’t believe it existed, and was convinced River was just looking for attention.
River left, changed their number, and never looked back. The night Evangeline tried to get into their apartment in the wee hours, they had the locks changed, too.
A soft mrrp beckoned River’s attention from the floor. Jonsey tilted his head to the side as he looked at them before jumping up onto the couch. He walked his way over to them and got comfy on their lap, kneading the skin of River’s tummy like dough. River smiled sadly and scritched his face lovingly. When Jonsey started purring, they knew they would be stuck there for a while.
Looking through their phone at photos of Frankie, they felt awful. They hadn’t told Frankie any of this, hoping that they just didn’t ever have to think about her ever again. Frankie deserved to know, though, and they wanted to get it out in the open and out of the way.
When they received the photo from Frankie at work, their heart thundered in their chest. They really did love him. They just couldn’t voice it.
Yet.
The smell of River’s favorite takeout place filled the air in Frankie’s truck. His stomach roared to life at the smell of noodles and vegetables. Chicken for him, none for River. He looked in the backseat at the giant pillow/stuffed animal of a bat he found at the store. He hoped they’d like it.
He pulled into River’s apartment complex and parked outside their building. He took a deep breath in the silence of the cab, grabbing the food and the bat, and kicked the door shut with his boot. He held the pillow close as he knocked as softly as he could with his boot against the door.
All the tension in Frankie’s shoulders left as soon as he saw River’s tired face. It looked like they hadn’t slept in a while. Their hair was in a high messy bun, and they wore a pair of boxer briefs, an old faded t-shirt with the words Sisters of Mercy across the chest, and their Baphomet slippers.
“Hey, baby,” Frankie hummed softly, a hopeful smile gracing his features. “Got you something to eat in case you were hungry.”
River smiled sadly at the food. They hadn’t eaten in days, and they probably looked like it, too. The smell of the food hit their nose, making their stomach grumble in protest. Frankie chuckled softly at the sound.
“Figured.” He held out the bag toward them before doing the same with the stuffed animal.
“And who– who is this?” River had to clear their throat in the middle of speaking, realizing they hadn’t spoken in days either. They set the food down on the coffee table as Frankie shut the door behind him, looking over the large bat pillow with a raised eyebrow.
“Do you hate it?” Frankie asked, biting his lip. He usually got Marisol a stuffed animal whenever she was upset. He knew River wasn’t a toddler, but he also knew that they deserved something soft, too. “I saw it at the store, and…” He shrugged, scratching the back of his neck nervously.
River hummed and hugged the pillow close. “I love her,” they smiled up at him.
“Her?” Frankie grinned.
“Her name is Agnes.”
Frankie snorted. “Alright. Agnes it is.” He stepped closer to them as they hugged Agnes and tucked a few stray hairs from their bun behind their ear. “How are you doing, mi río?” He asked softly, cupping their face and rubbing his thumb across their cheekbone.
River’s eyes grew a touch sadder at the question, but they smiled anyway. “A little better,” they answered honestly. “Missed you,” they mumbled, setting Agnes down on the couch so they could wrap their arms around Frankie’s middle. They held on tight, squeezing the air out of his lungs but it felt like the first time Frankie properly breathed in days. He held them just as tightly, before kissing the top of their head.
“Missed you too, baby,” he hummed. “Was worried about you.”
River frowned and squeezed him a little more. “‘M sorry for making you worry,” they said into his shirt, the smell of oil and metal wafting off of him. The scent grounded them.
“Shh, no need to apologize, okay?” He pulled back a little, keeping his arms around them, but looking into their eyes seriously. “I’m always gonna worry about you. Even if I know you’re okay. You know I care about you,” he smiled, brushing the knuckle of his index finger against their nose softly.
River’s heart melted at the gesture, their cheeks growing warm. They smiled and looked at the bottom of his neck, a particular freckle catching their eye. They leaned forward to press a soft kiss to it before resting their head on his chest. Frankie held them close and rocked them gently.
River’s stomach roared, causing them to freeze for a second. Frankie chuckled and kissed the top of their head again. “C’mon. Lets get some food in you, yeah?”
They ate in silence. And when it wasn’t silent, Frankie was talking about Marisol or work. River listened intently, the sound of their boyfriend’s voice soothing them. Frankie put down his spoon after he finished off his fried rice, and grabbed some chopsticks. River’s eyes were glued to the thick fingers of his right hand, pupils dilating.
“Baby?” Frankie smiled softly, picking up a piece of chicken with his chopsticks and holding it above his plate. “Did I lose you?” He teased.
River jumped a little in their seat, their eyes snapping up to his face. “Hm? No,” they cleared their throat, picking up a piece of zucchini with their own chopsticks. They stared at the vegetable and bit their lip. They probably wouldn’t be able to finish the meal Frankie went through the trouble of getting for them. Their appetite seemed to have disappeared again.
Frankie raised a brow, face pinched in concern. “You don’t have to eat anymore right now. You ate most of your noodles, which I’m glad to see,” he said softly. “You can always finish it later.”
River nodded, feeling like they were on autopilot. “We were together for five years. I didn’t… I wasn’t… me, yet.”
Frankie froze, watching River’s face carefully. They were staring out into the middle distance, somewhere around Frankie’s shoulder. “Baby, we don’t have to–”
“Yes, we do,” River’s voice was scratchy, but firm. “I went to therapy after we– After I left her. She wouldn’t let me get top surgery.”
Frankie’s eyebrows furrowed and he set down his chopsticks, crossing his arms over his chest on the dining room table. The air in River’s apartment was still, the dim light from the kitchen making River’s dark features even darker. “‘Let’?” He asked quietly.
River nodded as they swallowed around a lump in their throat. “Yes. There were… rules. Well, unspoken ones. She never believed in, well… this,” they sighed, gesturing to their torso. “Still doesn’t, it seems.”
Frankie stayed quiet, letting them continue, despite wanting nothing more than to put his fist through the table in front of them.
“The… name she called me doesn’t apply to me anymore. My parents don’t even call me that anymore,” they whispered, a bitter laugh tacked on at the end.
“Deadnaming,” Frankie mumbled softly.
“Yeah–” River looked up at him, a confused expression on their face. “You know what that is?”
Frankie smiled shyly, but sadly. “Y-yeah, uh,” he chuckled. “I’ve been doing some research. Only fair,” he shrugged easily.
Tears welled up in River’s eyes as they smiled, picking at the nail polish on their fingers. “You’re amazing,” they whispered.
Frankie blushed, but didn’t argue. This wasn’t about him right now. He rested an open hand on the table, inviting them to give him one of their own. When River gave him one of their hands, he held it firmly in his own, thumb rubbing against their knuckles protectively. “Go on,” he encouraged gently.
River sighed heavily and nodded. They talked for a long time. Explaining anything and everything about their relationship with Evangeline, who they were before, and what brought them to him now. Not much was different, just the fact that they were more secure in who they are now.
“Gotta be honest,” River said softly, voice a little hoarse from talking so much. “Was scared how you’d react to a lot of this. I’m not sure why,” they shrugged. They knew deep down that Frankie would never judge them, nor would he be scared. They’d been through too much together.
Frankie lifted their hand and kissed River’s knuckles tenderly. “I get it,” he nodded. “I felt the same way when I told you about the military. About Colombia. I wasn’t sure if you’d see me differently or not.”
River shook their head. “No. Love you too much for that,” they mumbled quietly.
A wide grin broke out onto Frankie’s face slowly, cheeks burning red. “Love you, too, Riv.”
River hummed happily, then froze. With wide eyes, they stared at Frankie for a minute. They pointed at themself, a silent question written all over their face.
Frankie laughed softly. “You did,” he grinned, standing slowly so he could be closer to them. He cupped their face in his big hands as he looked down at them in their seat. “Love you so much,” he whispered, kissing them properly, lips melding easily against theirs.
River was completely lost in it, fingers tangled into the fabric of Frankie’s t-shirt tightly, like if they let go he’d disappear. They moaned softly into his mouth, a tear falling down their cheek. Frankie hummed in response, catching the tear on his thumb. He pulled away slightly to catch his breath and pressed his lips to their forehead. He kept them close like that for a little while, smelling the old dry shampoo stuck to River’s scalp.
“You should take a bath, baby,” Frankie said softly. River snorted into his shirt, face buried in his tummy.
“You saying I smell?”
When Frankie didn’t answer right away, River laughed, really laughed, for the first time since they were at the mall together.
“I–I’m not!”
River rolled their eyes and smiled up at him, chin resting on his torso. “Wanna join me?”
Frankie raised a brow and smirked, but his face grew serious quickly. “Río, we don’t have to do anything like that–”
“I know,” River muttered. “I didn’t want to. Just wanted,” they bit their lip. “Just wanted to be with you.”
Frankie’s heart melted and he nodded, kissing the hook of River’s nose. “I think I can do that,” he winked.
River didn’t doubt that for a second.
Prompt 7 - Phase
@jegulus-microfic March 7 Word count 727
Previous part First part
24 hours earlier -
James was reading up on everything he could find on Basilisk's and other magical serpents. When an owl appeared tapping on his bedroom window, he let it in, instantly recognising the squat little owl as Peter’s. A wave of guilt hit him. He hadn’t seen Peter in weeks. He’d been so wrapped up in taking care of Sirius and worrying about Regulus and Remus he hadn’t spared much thought for his other friend.
He took the note from the owl.
Hey James,
Long time no see. I’ll be at Cups and Saucers Tea Room in Diagon Alley at 4 pm if you’re around and fancy a catch-up.
Send a note back with Jupiter.
Peter
James hated that stuffy little tea room, but it was one of Peter’s favourites, and they didn’t go there often. He quickly scrawled an answer for Jupiter to take back and went back to his reading, looking forward to seeing his friend.
At five to four, he apparated into Diagon Alley and walked the short distance to the tea room. It was a narrow storefront with an absurdly large spinning cup and saucer on the front above the door.
James pushed the door and entered. A delicate bell tinkled as the door knocked against it, and a bored young witch stepped out from behind a curtain and greeted him with a dull monotone.
“Welcome to Cups and Saucers. How many in you’re party?”
“Er—two. I don’t know if my friend is here already.” He tried to peer around the host, but she unhelpfully blocked the entrance into the tea room.
“Right this way, sir,” She droned and turned, leading him to a small two-person table.
“James,” Peter called from the opposite corner.
“Oh, that’s my friend over there.”
“Whatever.” The bored witch had already wandered away back to her curtain. James went to sit at Peter’s table.
“I hope you don’t mind. I just ordered the afternoon tea and thought it would be easier. It has a really nice selection of sandwiches and cakes.” Peter chatted excitedly. James gave him a wide smile.
“Sure, Pete, sounds great.”
They didn’t have to wait long before their order was brought out by the bored witch.
“Here you go, enjoy boys.” She beamed before skipping back into the kitchens.
“Wait, what?” James looked towards the curtain and the kitchen door. Her strange behaviour didn’t seem to phase Peter at all.
“Twins,” Peter said as he helped himself to a cucumber sandwich. “So, how’s things? How’s your mum?”
“Oh, you know as well as we can be with a war on.” He shrugged his shoulders. “Mum’s fine, misses you. You should pop in and see her when you’re free.”
“Yeah, I miss her too. I’ll try and see her soon.”
They sat in companionable silence for a while while they made their way through the food.
They talked about pranks they’d pulled at Hogwarts and memories from when they were even younger before they’d met the others, and it was just James and Peter. Peter seemed to want to talk about those times more and kept steering them back to those memories whenever James brought up Sirius or Remus.
“Remember when we used your mum’s best tea set to collect frog spas from the pond? I thought she was going to disown you.” Peter laughed, spraying crumbs from his lips.
“Yeah, she’s never quite forgiven me for that one. She has to keep it turned the other way in the cupboard so she can’t see the chip in the lid.”
The cheery witch came out with their bill once they’d finished, and James paid for everything, refusing Peter’s pleas to at least let him pay half.
“No, no, my treat.” James insisted. He added a couple of extra Galleons as a tip, hoping to make the hostess smile.
They were just putting their coats and scarves on when Peter casually said.
“How’s Sirius doing? Not checked in with him for a while.”
“Oh, he’s fine. Bit bored, but he’s fine.” It was only after the words left his mouth that James realised what he’d done.
“That’s good. I’ll have to find some time to go see him and Remus as well.” He chuckled. James didn’t think the smile quite reached his eyes but shook off that feeling. It was only Peter, after all.
Candy Striper (Eddie Munson x PlatonicGN!Reader)
You help look after the Munson family while Eddie is in hospital
He was here, again. Mr Munson was slumped in the chair beside Eddie's hospital bed, his hand weakly lying next to Eddie's. He looked like a puppet with the strings cut, and from the clothes he was wearing, he hadn't gone home.
"I don't think I've ever seen him leave." The nurse besides you piped up. "Eddie coded last night and he's not moved since."
Your heart panged for him. You couldn't imagine the pain Eddie's uncle was going through. When Eddie arrived in the hospital only two days ago, no one believed he would make it through the night. But he was still here, after a few cardiac arrests and one major surgery, he was still here. He was nothing like the boy you exchanged awkward smiles with in class, his body lacking the life he always exuded.
"It must be so hard." You mused, leaning against the counter. You mindlessly smoothed the fabric of your candy striper apron down. "Is there anything I can do?"
"There's some coffee in the staff room. Strictly for staff, only." She enunciated the words, nodding her head slightly to the side. "You look tired, why don't you grab a cup?"
The pieces fell together, and you nodded your head. "Yeah, I think I will actually."
You stood up from the desk, striding towards the staff room. The room was surprisingly quiet, the nurses having little chance to get a break with the sudden flood of earthquake victims. Looking over your shoulder, you reached for the coffee pot, pouring it into one of the disposable cups. The cup warmed in your hand. You faltered, before snatching up a handful of creamer and sugar sachets, shoving them deep into the pockets of your apron.
You felt as if everyone was watching you as you walked towards Eddie's room, knocking lightly on the door. Wayne's head shot up, his eyes connecting to yours. His eyes were red rimmed and puffy, and guessing from the size of the bags underneath them he hadn't slept a wink since Eddie was admitted.
"Hi Mr Munson," you sent him a weak smile. "I brought you some coffee."
"Oh, thank you." He muttered, dragging his hand across his face.
You placed the cup gently on the bed side table, pulling out all the sachets and dumping them on the sides. "I wasn't sure how you take your coffee so there's some creamer and sugar too."
He appeared dazed. He looked up at you, something other than sadness spreading across his features. "That's great, I can't thank you enough."
You smiled, heart breaking at how tired he seemed. "It's the least I can do."
You bid him farewell, leaving to attend to other patient's.
That was the first time of many. Like a magnet you were constantly drawn to the room, bringing Wayne a steaming cup of coffee and a smile each morning. The bags under his eyes got darker; he smiled more, and that was something.
Today was no different. You lightly tapped the door, Wayne gesturing over his shoulder for you to come in. You deposited the coffee on the table, sugar already stirred into the caffeinated drink. You knew by now he hated creamers.
"You're late, I was getting worried." Wayne joked. You felt lighter - that was the first joke you'd heard him make.
"One of the patients made me go all the way back to the kitchens to get them a different kind of jello - its wobbly water, how can you tell?"
A huff of a laugh passed Wayne's lips.
"I don't mind though," you shrugged, your hand dipping into the front of your arpon. "The nurses told me you've not been eating."
"I'm not hungry."
"You need to eat." You sighed, pulling out the object in your apron. "I know it's not much... Please can you eat this? For me?"
Wayne looked at the pudding cup in your hand, then back to you. "Aren't you going to get into trouble?"
"Food in the cafeteria is free, you know, since everything has happened. Which you'd know if you went there." You waved the pudding cup in his face, sending him a pointed look. He sighed, reaching out and taking it from you. You passed him a spoon immediately, watching him like a hawk.
"Wait, now?"
You nodded.
"I could report you," he grumbled.
You smiled brightly. "But you won't - you like me too much."
"Yeah, yeah," he brushed it off, ripping open the lid of the pudding cup. He dunked the spoon in, taking a big mouthful. He raised a brow at you. "Better now?"
"Much." You glanced at the watch on your wrist. "I've got to go now - but you better eat that whole thing, or I'll tattle on you for bringing in visitors after hours."
He knew it was an empty threat. All of the nurses and staff on the ward knew he helped sneak in Eddie's friends, turning a blind eye when a handful of kids would scurry past. Sometimes the cleaners helped too. The whole ward was in on it - it was the worst kept secret there.
"Yes ma'am." Wayne nodded, dipping in the spoon again. You tried to hide your smile, grateful he was finally eating.
"I'll be back at the same time tomorrow."
Just like you promised, you returned like clockwork with a coffee in your hand. Except this time a towel was slung across your shoulder and determination in your stride.
"Oh, hey Y/N, busy morning?" He accepted the coffee, slurping loudly as he considered your tired frame.
"Not really," you shrugged. "Long week."
"You've been here every morning since I've been here, what about school?"
You dragged a spare chair into the room, sitting across from him. You could always spare five minutes to talk, even if it meant staying later on your shift to compensate. "I normally only do Saturday mornings but given the whole situation, I thought I was needed here. Besides, the school is shut at the moment. It's the refuge centre."
"That's very kind of you."
Your mouth opened and closed like a fish. You never thought too much about donating your time to the hospital, it was second nature at this point. You finally managed to muster some words. "Thank you sir."
"Do you know my boy? You're at Hawkins High, right?"
"Yeah I am." You leaned back in the chair, fiddling with your hands. "I know him, he's in my maths class. He lets me draw on his arm if I get stressed."
"Those are your drawings?"
You dipped your head, embarrassment clouding you. "How do you know?"
"He's always showing them off, telling me how the coolest kid in school is using his arm as a canvas. I'd have to beg him to shower because he just didn't want to wash them away."
"Really?"
"Yeah, boy did he half stink at times. At least until he figured out he could just take pictures of them, then it didn't matter too much if they faded."
You huffed a laugh, smiling distantly. "I never knew that."
You looked at Eddie's still form in the bed. The colour was starting to return to his cheeks, and if it wasn't for the bandages creeping out beneath the covers you would have thought he was sleeping. "You know what Eddie would say now?"
Wayne raised a brow, waiting for you to continue.
"He'd say you need to look after yourself, just like how you've looked after him all these years. Go home, sleep in your bed, shower and eat a hot meal."
"My home was torn apart in the quake."
You sighed, slumping back in your chair. As if the earthquake hadn’t hurt him enough, by attacking Eddie and making him sick with worry, he now didn’t have a home either. You wanted to curse whatever higher power had inflicted this level of pain on his family.
“We’ve got some showers here, and the cafeteria. I know it’s not a lot, but it’s something.”
Wayne immediately shook his head no, dead against the idea. “No, I’m not leaving him.”
Instinctively, you sat up, reaching for Wayne’s hand. You held it softly, forcing his gaze to fall on you. “We need to make sure you’re here and you’re healthy for when he wakes up.”
Wayne opened his mouth to protest, cut off by your voice. “You need a shower and some hot food. I’ll stay here, and if anything changes I’ll find you, okay?”
Wayne stayed silent for a moment. He looked between you, Eddie and the heart monitor. Eddie hadn’t coded for a few days, and the doctors had said he appeared to be doing well. They just needed him to wake up.
“What - what if he wakes up and I’m not here?”
You tightened your grip on his hand. “He won’t be alone. I’ll be here. And if he wakes up, I’ll run and find you as fast as I can.”
He looked so conflicted, his gaze settling on Eddie. He sighed deeply, retracting his hand from yours and standing upright. He moved towards the bed, gently reaching out and squeezing Eddie’s fingers. “I’ll be back soon - you be good for Y/N.”
He let go quickly, spinning on his heel. You reached for the towel on your shoulder, passing it to him. You led him out of the room, pointing out one of the nurses who could help direct him to the showers. He looked down at the towel in his hand, his lips curling at the edges.
“You planned this all along?”
You shrugged, a small smile on your face. “Just doing my job sir.”
He nodded, walking towards the nurse. His steps faltered as he left the room, turning towards you. “He’ll be okay, right?”
A lump grew in your throat. Seeing Wayne’s eyes keep dancing to the figure laying in the bed and how he was twisting the towel in his hands, you knew he was nervous. You were fairly certain it was the first time he’d left the room for more than five minutes.
“He’s in good hands.” You managed to choke out, watching from the doorway as he seemed satisfied with the answer, following the nurse down the corridors.
You turned back towards the room, walking towards the chair and falling back into it. This was the longest you’d spent here, and god was it awfully quiet. You twiddled with your thumbs, listening to Eddie’s steady breathing and beep of the heart monitor. The quiet felt suffocating, and soon you found words spilling out of your mouth without realising.
“So I’m the coolest kid in school, huh?” You laughed, looking at his still figure. “I always thought that title was reserved for you. You don’t care what other people think, you are undeniably you. You own that shit.”
You paused, as if waiting for a response. One never came.
“I’ve always wanted to be your friend, and not just someone who doodles on you. Maybe once you’re better we can hang out? I bet you’re dying to get out of here.” You winced, realising your poor choice of words. “Sorry, that was insensitive.”
The silence greeted you once more.
“You know, there’s this great book store just out of town. They have some tables at the back and you can play board games, they even have D&D. I reckon you’d like it there. Maybe you and your friends can go? I know since you’ve been in here they haven’t played.” You subconsciously moved your chair closer, so you were much closer to Eddie. “Your friends… they really miss you. They all really miss you. Dustin in particular.”
You waited a beat, wondering if the mention of their names might awake him from his coma. He didn’t move an inch. You sighed.
“They visit you all the time, which you probably already know.” You breathed a laugh, straightening out your uniform apron. “They bring food for the nurses though. Dustin’s mom makes the best brownies I’ve ever had. I could marry the woman.”
You looked at Eddie, taking in the bandages and bruises lingering on his skin. You couldn’t help but wonder what happened to him to injure him so badly, unable to wrap your brain around the reasoning his friends stuttered out when he was brought out in the ER. They blamed stray animals; something told you that wasn’t entirely accurate.
“I know you don’t know me that well, but you need to wake up soon. Everyone is so worried about you.”
For a brief second, you swore you saw him move. But it was a trick of the mind, as he remained as perfectly still as he had since he was admitted. You tried not to be disappointed, falling into silence as you waited for Wayne to return. Minutes dragged by until you heard fast footsteps thudding down the corridor, Wayne’s slightly dishevelled figure appearing in the doorframe.
“Is he okay?” He asked breathlessly, surging forwards to be closer to Eddie’s bedside. A whiff of the hospital shampoo followed in his wake, clogging your nose with a smell similar to baby powder. You immediately left the chair, watching him flop into his gracelessly.
“Yeah, watched him like a hawk.” You smiled. “Did you get something to eat?”
“Not sure what all the fuss was about, it was hot mush.”
You shrugged your shoulders. “But you ate something other than pudding cups.”
“Eating is overrated.” He looked up at you, a small curl to his lips. “Thank you. For looking after me and my boy.”
“It’s my pleasure.”
After that the two of you maintained a routine. Wayne would go shower, eat, try to find somewhere to stay while you remained at Eddie’s side, ears always perked for the consistent beeping of the heart monitor. It quickly felt as if you were visiting an old friend. Each day you brought something different to occupy yourself - a book (which you read aloud to Eddie), some knitting (you didn’t talk much these times, just allowing your string of curses to fill the silence as the yarn got tangled), and sometimes you wouldn’t bring anything at all. Sometimes you would merely sit by his bedside, talking into the void and hoping you would hear something back. You never did.
On one mundane Tuesday morning, you strolled into the room, Wayne’s coffee in hand. You were oblivious to the unusual levels of noise leaving the room, simply walking over the threshold to complete your daily ritual.
You froze.
Wayne sat close to the bed, clutching Eddie’s hand as he chatted endlessly. This didn’t take you by surprise, having found Wayne engaging in full conversations with Eddie’s comatose body on many occasions. What did take you by surprise was how he was talking to Eddie - a very much awake Eddie.
The coffee cup slipped out of your grip. The hot liquid sloshed onto the floor, burning your legs yet you couldn’t register the fleeting pain, gaze transfixed on the boy you had believed would never wake up.
Both pairs of eyes spun towards you. Wayne smiled widely, frowning as he took in the coffee dripping off of your calves.
“Are you alright, Y/N?”
Wordlessly you nodded, gulping nervously. “I’ll uh, I’ll go grab a mop.”
Without uttering another word you turned on your heel, marching down the ward corridor. Casting a quick glance over your shoulder, you saw Wayne hadn’t followed you out. You collapsed against the closest wall, body slumping.
He was alive, he was awake. Suddenly all of the conversations you believed to be one sided played on repeat in your brain. Oh god, you’d told him you wished you two would be friends. A wave of embarrassment washed over you. You prayed he couldn't recall any of it, just so you could save your dignity.
But you couldn’t avoid him forever.
Sucking in a deep breath, you pulled yourself upright. You marched towards the supply closet, filling a bucket with some water and snatched up the mop. As you were walking back towards the room, you could overhear snippets of conversation drifting out into the hallway.
“This entire time?”
Wayne’s laughter filtered into the corridor. “There wasn’t a day that would go by without them coming in here. I’ve got all the time in the world for them - they helped pull me back in during my darkest hour.”
“Uncle Wayne…” You could hear the sadness seeping into Eddie’s voice. You didn’t want to interrupt their moment, waiting for a lull in conversation so you could re-enter. After a few minutes you grabbed your chance, walking in with the mop in hand, pretending to not have heard a word.
“I see someone finally decided to wake up.” You teased, dunking the mop into the bucket, letting the mop soak in the soapy water.
“Disappointed I can talk back now?”
You occupied yourself with cleaning up the spilled coffee, hoping he didn’t catch the embarrassment clouding your features. “Guess I’ll just have to find another comatose boy to vent to.”
Eddie laughed, a noise you never believed you would hear again. It was nice, you took a moment to relish in the sound. “Nice to know I’m so easily replaceable.”
You matched his mood, a huff of a laugh passing your lips. You finished mopping, tidying away the fallen cup and looked at Wayne, who seemed the most alive you’d ever seen him. A smile curved onto your lips. They didn’t need you anymore.
“Do you want another coffee Wayne?” He shook his head no. You picked up the bucket, sending the pair of them a bright grin. “I’ll leave you two to it - I reckon you’ve got quite a bit of catching up to do.”
You retreated from the room, thankful that Eddie was finally awake and his uncle had him back. Deep down, sadness took root. No longer would you sit by Eddie’s bedside reading, knitting or talking. It felt like you had lost a friend. Shame quickly took its place, how could you think so selfishly when Eddie now had his life back?
You brushed your feelings away, pushing down the pain whilst you attended to the rest of your duties for the day.
~
Each day that passed, your days were getting less busy. More patients were returning home, the aftermath of the earthquake slowly but surely ebbing away. Beds were left empty in the hospital and eventually, they no longer needed you everyday. You found yourself lost on what to do, having buckets of time and no way to spend it. You were accustomed to spending hours walking the sterile halls, to spreading happiness to patients and trying to brighten their day. It was good work, work you took pride in, and now you had returned back to your usual Saturday mornings you found yourself craving to be back there.
Your muscles acted with a mind of their own. You found yourself at the hospital, walking the familiar route to his room. You patted down imaginary dust from your jeans, suddenly self conscious. This would be the first time you had seen him outside of your working hours.
You greeted a few nurses along the route, spending a few minutes chatting to your favourite cleaner. As much as you enjoyed the interactions, you were itching to already be down the corridor and in the room where you belonged.
When you arrived at his door, your feet no longer cooperated. You wanted to walk in, self doubts suddenly plaguing you. To him, you were a volunteer, someone who was there to complete a duty. He could never comprehend the friendship you had woven with him over your visits. Maybe he would find this weird, you seeing him during allocated visiting times. Maybe he would kick you out. Maybe he would report you to the nurses. Maybe he had forgotten who you were, you hadn’t seen him since last Saturday.
“Who’s there?” He called out, breaking you from your spiral. “I promise I won't bite.”
You gathered all of your courage and flung the door open. His eyes widened slightly in surprise, a wide grin quickly overtaking his features. “Y/N!”
You let out a breath you hadn’t realised you had been holding. He remembered your name, he recognised you outside of your candy striper uniform.
“I haven’t seen you in forever - I thought you’d forgotten about me!” Eddie pouted, gesturing for you to come in. You obeyed, stepping into the room and falling into your favourite seat. “I didn’t realise you owned anything other than a candy striper uniform.”
You laughed heartily, relaxing back into the chair. A bout of silence enveloped the pair of you, and you thought back to the time where you sat here by his side, listening attentively to the monitors. That felt like a lifetime ago.
Eddie broke the silence, playing with his fingers. “Have you been to the bookstore?”
Your brows furrowed. “Bookstore?”
“You know, the one with the D&D tables?”
Your head fell into your hands. You prayed your hands could hide you from him, you could disappear and he would forget all of this ever happened. You mustered a squeak, unable to face the truth but thirsty to know the answers. “How much did you hear?”
“All of it, I think.” His hands reached out, gently pulling at yours. Slowly you peeked up at him, your shoulders sagging at the sight of his shy smile. “You know, when I heard the coolest kid in Hawkins wanted to be my friend, I knew I had to wake up.”
“Oh shut up,” you giggled, averting your gaze from him. “I’m nowhere near the coolest kid.”
“I heard what Wayne told you, you know, about the drawings? God, I wanted so hard to wake up right there and then to shut him up.” He shook his head, traces of a smile on his lips. “I always looked forward to that class, pretty sure that’s the only class I never skipped.”
“I… I didn’t know.” You couldn’t wrap your head around Eddie’s words, scrambling for an explanation. “Why?”
“Because it was the only time I could spend with my friend.”
You couldn’t hide your smile, shaking your head. “Why didn’t we ever hang outside of class?”
“I don’t know, I thought you wouldn’t want to be seen with the town’s freak.”
“I don’t care about any of that.” You laughed again, shaking your head. “Why are we both so awkward?”
Eddie joined your laughter, wincing as he jostled his side.
“You know, I think I saw a pen around here.” Eddie wiggled his eyebrows. “What do you say we reminisce about the good ol’ days?”
You gleefully obliged, scavenging the nurses office for a pen. You were by Eddie’s side in an instant, assuming the position and uncapping the pen.
That’s how you spent the rest of your night, pen ink sprawling along Eddie’s arm as you talked way past visiting hours, forging a friendship that would last a lifetime.
Finally got my shit together and finished a WIP lmao. My sweet, sad little blorbo from my brain who lives rent free in my head 💙 He needs love and affection so badly but I simply refuse to give him any, he just gets to be miserable 😌
Anyway, medical content (set in a hospital), contagion risk, bit of mess but it's not descriptive, I absolutely did not read this over so yeah there's probably mistakes
Aditya was too much of a people pleaser for his own good, unable to bear the thought of letting his coworkers down, even when he absolutely needed to take the day off. He had come down with quite the cold, and was currently stumbling his way through a tedious 24 hour shift at the hospital. He would admittedly much rather be in bed at home with blankets piled on top of him, sniffling and sneezing into tissues provided by another person, perhaps sipping on some warm tea while they rubbed his back. But that was nothing more than a fruitless dream; it had been far longer than Aditya cared to think about since he'd had someone like that in his life, or at least someone who was readily available.
Even in his last relationship, he hadn’t been on the receiving end of care and affection, though Aditya so generously counted it as a time he had. He desperately missed having someone to go home to, someone to hold after a particularly exhausting day, someone to make food for. So far, it seemed that maybe that just wasn't in the stars for him. Besides, he reasoned, he was needed at the hospital, and it saved him from having to return to his empty house that felt less and less like a home everyday.
Going about his rounds was less than ideal; his head throbbed with congestion, and it took everything in him to hold back sneezes when he went in to see patients. Even entering notes into one of the rickety old computers seemed like such an arduous task, his head pounding and his eyes aching, further exacerbated by the fact that he'd so stupidly forgotten his reading glasses at home. He was normally so in his element in the ER, never overwhelmed by the fast pace of the department and the bustling people. Today, though, he was clearly in over his head.
Thick sniffles punctuated every sentence, as well as irritated coughs, and the persistent itch in his nose that just wouldn't go away. He tried wrinkling his nose, subtly rubbing at it, just trying to make the tingling sensation go away. Aditya figured he should consider himself lucky that he could even hold back any of his sneezes, though the consequence was being unable to get any sort of relief. His nose kept running, and he was constantly having to wipe it with a tissue or the back of his wrist. He was a sorry sight; hitching breath and watery eyes, a curled finger pressed beneath his nose in an effort to keep himself from sneezing. He was trying desperately to not appear too symptomatic in front of his patients and colleagues, though it was mostly in vain. The patients didn't seem to notice nor care about the state he was in, but the other hospital personnel definitely did, and he honestly didn't even want to know what they thought of him right now.
Never in his life had Aditya been so grateful for the veteran nurses and ER technicians, which was saying something, because he was always grateful for them. They all less than gently pushed him out of the patients' rooms and simply had him sign off on charts and treatments, much to his dismay. Talking to the patients was his favorite part of the job; patient care was the entire reason he'd gone through all of those hellish years of medical school, after all. Though, considering he could barely even hold a conversation without his voice cracking or his breath hitching every few words as he fought back the urge to sneeze, it was probably for the best that the other staff members were letting him do the bare minimum in terms of patient contact. Even just submitting referrals for patients was a nightmare, sniffling constantly and tightly pinching his nose between his thumb and forefinger to keep himself from sneezing. He looked so pathetic, eventually a couple of the nurses either took pity on him, or just wanted to be rid of his incessant sniffles for a while, and talked him into taking a break when things slowed down. Aditya was in absolutely no condition to argue, and simply offered a tired, grateful smile before pushing himself away from the computer.
He didn't even know if he wanted to head all the way over to the hospital staff break room, and opted to head to the first responder break room; it was much closer, and really, all he wanted to do was get off his feet for a bit. He pushed open the door, and sat heavily in one of the chairs, his entire body cold and aching. Logically, he knew he should’ve called out, but he just couldn’t bring himself to do it; the guilt would’ve killed him quicker than this cold was going to.
"H'aATSCHEW! Hah- hk'ESCHEW!" Aditya pitched forward, barely managing to pull a tissue from his pocket and cup it over his nose before a couple desperate, messy sneezes exploded out of him. He sniffled thickly, coughing a couple times as his nose itched terribly. "Hh'ESCHEEW! hAH'KESHEW! Hh- heh- hH- heh'ETSCHEWW! hh'aASCHEW! hk'ATSCHEW!" He let out a quiet, relieved moan; it felt so good to finally be able to allow himself to sneeze after barely managing to hold it back all day.
"Yikes, that doesn't sound too good."
Aditya's head snapped up at the sound of another voice, managing a small smile at the familiar face of the friendly firefighter paramedic. "Hey, Levi," he croaked, sniffling and rubbing his nose with the soggy tissue in his hand. "Yeah, I- I've definitely caught a cold…"
Levi hummed, pulling up a chair and sitting beside him, placing the back of her hand on his forehead. "Mm, you're a little warm, but not too bad. You sound awful, though," she told him, pulling her hand away again.
He wished her hand had stayed on his forehead for a bit longer, yearning for a tender, caring touch, though he didn’t dare voice it. "I feel awful," he muttered, blowing his nose and letting out a few more irritated coughs. "But we're understaffed, and I kinda have to be here, so…"
She rolled her eyes. "It's emergency medicine. We're always understaffed. Doesn't stop everyone else from calling out all the time," she told him. "You'd tell anyone else to go home."
"I know, I know," he sighed, sniffling again. Aditya didn’t have a good excuse for that. Sure, he could tell her that he wasn't everyone else, that that didn't apply to him, that he had to be there, but he knew Levi would rip him a new one if he said any of it out loud. "But I can still be of use here. And I'm only working a 24 this time, so it's not that bad."
"A 24, if you're lucky," she replied, giving him a sympathetic look.
Aditya nodded ruefully. "If I'm lucky," he echoed, sniffling again as he tried to keep his nose from running.
"Holy shit, man, is that your voice right now?" Another medic walked in, raising a brow at Aditya. "You sound like shit."
Aditya sighed, waving at him. "Nice to see you, too, Matthew," he muttered, coughing as quietly as he could into the tissue.
"Lay off, Parker," Levi hissed, shooting him a pointed look. "He's sick."
"Yeah, no shit," Matthew responded, choosing to sit on the table rather than opting for a chair, resting his elbows on his knees as he leaned closer to Aditya, looking the doctor up and down. "You got the plague or somethin'? What am I working with here?"
"Just a cold," Aditya assured him, sniffling again and rubbing his nose, trying and failing to stave off another sneeze. "H'ESHEW! hk'aATSCHEW! Hah- hh- hHH- h'ASCHEEW! hah'ETSCHEWW! hh'keESCHHEW!" He let out a quiet whine as he rubbed his red, swollen nose.
Matthew stared at him for a moment. "Goddamn. Alright, whatever you say," he muttered, shaking his head. Like Levi, he reached out to place his palm on Aditya's forehead, checking him for a fever. Unsatisfied with just that, Matthew pressed the backs of his fingers against his cheek. "Eh, you're not too feverish. You'll live."
Matthew's hand was calloused, but kind, his touch sweetly disarming to Aditya, who he couldn’t help but lean into his hand. He let his eyes slip shut, saying nothing, but feeling entirely too much. He wasn't entirely accustomed to any touch being so mercifully soft, and he couldn’t help but let out a sigh, allowing his body to relax a bit as he sucked in another sniffle.
Matthew froze in place, glancing over at Levi, who simply shrugged, and slightly nodded her head towards Aditya, silently urging him to continue on. With that, Matthew shifted his attention back to the sick doctor, gently rubbing his cheek with a finger, trying to comfort him, the stubble on Aditya's face a reminder that he'd need to shave himself soon.
Levi stood up to retrieve a box of tissues, then sat back down with it in her lap, offering a couple to Aditya. "Here. You look like you could use a whole lot more of these," she commented, giving him a lopsided smile.
He nodded, taking the tissues from her and managing a small, shy smile. Reluctantly, he leaned away from Matthew's touch, blowing his nose as quietly as he could, his cheeks flushed with embarrassment that all of the attention was on him. He coughed a few more times, desperately trying to keep his cold to himself, though he never was the best at containing his germs. His nose began twitching again, his breath hitching as he tried to fight back the urge to sneeze again, sniffling helplessly. "C-can I- hh- can I have an-nother ti- hiiH- hih’SCHEWW! hah'ETSCHEW! hk'ATSCHEW! h'aASCHHEEW!"
Levi couldn't manage to hand him a tissue in time, but was successfully able to grab a couple more tissues and cup them over his nose herself. If nothing else, at least being a paramedic meant her reflexes for catching other people's bodily fluids were razor sharp. The box of tissues had fallen off her lap when she'd jumped up, her free hand around his shoulders to provide gentle support as he pitched forward into her hand, the sneezes exploding out of him. "I got you," she murmured, rubbing his back soothingly.
Aditya sniffled miserably, his eyes squeezed tightly shut, not wanting to look at either of them after that display. "S-sorry…" he squeaked, coughing a few times into the tissues Levi still held for him, blushing heavily, wanting to reach up to take them from her, but being too mortified to move.
"It's fine, Adi. Really," she assured him, sliding her arm around him to give him a side hug and giving him a gentle squeeze. "We're all friends here."
Matthew nodded in agreement, reaching a hand out to affectionately ruffle Aditya's hair. "You want a coffee?" He asked, sliding himself off the table and walking towards the coffee maker in the break room. "It's what Hawkins and I came here for in the first place, so we're making some, anyway."
"Oh, yeah, I'll fucking die if I have to run another call before I can get any caffeine in my system," Levi replied, giving Aditya a wry smile. "Something warm might do you some good, though."
Aditya thought for a moment, then nodded. "Yeah, that's- yeah, please. That sounds really nice," he said, glancing up at Levi, then over to Matthew, his tired eyes filled with immense gratitude. He tried his best to swallow down a fit of coughs, but couldn't manage to hold them back, and ducked his head, coughing into his hand.
Levi patted his back as he coughed, frowning in concern. "I know damn well a cough this bad didn't start just now," she muttered, soothingly rubbing his back as his coughing died down. "How long have you been sick?"
"All day…" he admitted, his voice weak. "I woke up with a sore throat and a stuffy nose, and it's just been getting worse… I ha- haah- haven't been able to stop sn- snee- hh'ESCHEEW! heh'eESCHHEW! heh'ETSCHEW! hah'kESCHHEWW! ht'SCHEEW! hh- hhH- hH'aASCHEW!" Aditya groaned, leaning forward to rub his aching nose with his fingers, his sinuses throbbing with congestion.
She winced in sympathy, picking up the tissue box and wordlessly holding it out to him. "Have you taken anything for this yet?" She asked, tilting her head slightly.
Aditya shook his head, taking a few tissues and blowing his nose several times, trying fruitlessly to clear his blocked nose. "Everything that helps makes me tired," he replied, sniffling thickly. "And I can't afford to be any more tired than I already am."
Levi hummed. "At least get some cough drops or something," she murmured, setting the tissues on the table in front of him. "Or, like, some Vick's."
"Or ibuprofen," Matthew butted in, dividing the coffee he'd made into three to-go cups.
Levi looked over her shoulder at him, narrowing her eyes at him. "He's on escitalopram, stupid," she told him, sticking her tongue out at him.
Matthew rolled his eyes. "Just call it lexapro, you pretentious bitch," he shot back, sticking his tongue out in return.
She gave an eyeroll of her own. "I didn't suffer through pharmacology to not use actual drug names."
"And I didn't go into the fire service to have to use them."
"Sort of came with the medic license, though, didn't it?"
"So did the neck and shoulder pain. Doesn't mean I have to enjoy it."
Levi gave him a smug little smile. "So you admit that you have to use the proper terms, then? That it's not just optional for your dumb little firefighter brain?"
He snorted. "Shut the fuck up. We wear the same uniform." Matthew brought two of the cups back over to the table, setting one down and handing the other to Aditya with an easy smile. "A couple ibuprofen won't kill you, ya know."
Aditya held the cup in his hands, sniffling softly as he looked down at it. "I- I know that, but I just-" He sighed, taking a sip of the steaming beverage and grimacing; plain black coffee was always far too bitter for him, and it didn't help that it was the shitty break room coffee. "I just don't want to…"
Levi grabbed the cup Matthew had set on the table, attempting to gulp it all down in one go, but stopping immediately when the scalding liquid burned her tongue and damn near made her choke. She shook her head, then took a much slower sip as she looked over at Matthew, giving him a playful, knowing smirk. "He actually cares about his health. I know what a foreign concept that is to you, Parker."
He scoffed, and rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, whatever," he huffed, going back to grab the other cup of coffee for himself. He glanced over at Aditya as he brought the cup to his lips. "Acetaminophen, then?"
Aditya thought for a moment, then nodded. "Yeah, that's fine," he replied softly, feeling rather ashamed about the fact that he'd declined ibuprofen. He knew it worked better for him, he knew the chances of anything terrible happening were slim, but he just couldn’t bring himself to risk it. He barely even touched caffeine these days, as much as he could use it, too paranoid that something would go wrong. The coffee in his hands was an exception, he reasoned, and besides, it wasn't like he was even planning on drinking all of it. He took another sip, and sniffled again. "Sorry…"
Levi arched a brow. "What are you apologizing for?" She asked, sitting back down and swinging her legs a bit as she drank her coffee.
He was silent for a moment, trying to think of a response that wouldn't earn a lecture from the two firefighters. His breath hitched as he built up to another sneeze, saving him from having to answer. "hh- huhh- hHH- h'ASCHEEW! hah'ESCHEWW! hh'keESCHHEW! hk'aATSCHEW! h'ESCHEWW!" Aditya sneezed towards his lap, immediately beginning to cough once he'd finished, blood rushing to his already rosy cheeks as he fought for desperate little gasps of air between coughs.
"Fucking christ, man," Matthew muttered as he drank his coffee, looking at Aditya over the rim of the cup. "Don't keel over in here, of all places."
"Best place to do it, though, honestly," Levi replied, sighing as she gave Aditya a worried look. "Seriously, though, are you gonna be alright?"
He nodded. "I'll be fine," he whispered, not daring to speak louder lest he set off another coughing fit. "I know you guys have to get back to work."
"Yeah, unfortunately," Matthew grumbled, quickly gulping down the rest of his coffee and tossing the cup in the trash can. "I'll go grab some tylenol from the rig real quick. Oh, and we have hella pre-workout, if you need the extra energy boost."
Levi nodded. "Shit ton of flavors, too." She rolled her eyes playfully at Aditya's slightly horrified look. "Don't look at us like that. We've gotta survive those 3am calls somehow."
"That's- I'll manage without it," he replied, rubbing his nose with the back of his wrist.
"I'll just grab the pills, then," Matthew said, heading for the door.
"Parker!" Levi called, stopping him before he left. "They're in my-"
"I know where you keep them," he cut her off, continuing out the door and walking to the ambulance. He grabbed a couple pills from Levi's bag, then quickly brought them back, and offered them to the doctor, who quickly accepted them.
Aditya swallowed them down with a few more small sips of coffee, looking up to meet Matthew's eyes. "Thanks," he croaked, coughing a couple more times.
"Mhm, no problem. Just try not to die, will ya?" He said, giving him a grin.
Levi shot Matthew a look, then gave Aditya a pat on the shoulder before checking her watch and standing up. "We should probably get going before dispatch loses their shit at us," she muttered, taking another sip of her coffee.
Matthew groaned, and tossed the keys to her, chuckling when she fumbled them and glared at him. "No way in hell am I driving again. You can do it for the next few hours," he said, stepping out of the break room before Levi could argue.
She huffed, though the smile on her face told him that she wasn't actually annoyed. She turned to look at Aditya one last time as she followed after Matthew. "We'll text you later," she told him, walking towards the door. "Maybe we can swing by your place once we clock out?"
That earned a genuine smile from Aditya, who nodded, his tired eyes brightening just a bit. "That'd be nice," he agreed, waving at them both as they walked out. His smile fell a bit as he watched the pair walk out together, Matthew laughing as he ruffled Levi's hair. For all their banter and playful bickering, it was clear that they really did care deeply about the other. Aditya didn’t know if he was jealous, or just lonely. He sighed, grabbing a couple handfuls of tissues and pocketing them, then grabbing one more to blow his nose into. He tossed the mostly untouched coffee and used tissues into the trash as he walked out, sniffling as he got back to work.
The poor man looked absolutely abysmal, his eyes watery and his nose red, taking in raspy breaths through his chapped lips. He was fortunate that none of the patients in the ER were critical, or needed a diagnosis or treatment that required much brain power. His job right now was just looking over the EKG results the techs ran, consulting with the nurses, checking in on patients and discussing treatment, and signing discharge papers, all of which was more than alright with him. It left him with more time to reconsider his life's choices.
His head was throbbing, and his sinuses felt like they were packed with concrete, and he was wondering why he'd even decided to work in a goddamn emergency department in the first place. It was miserable at best more than half the time, and truly, the nurses and ER techs did more for the patients than he ever did. Perhaps he would've been better off if he'd picked a different specialty; maybe cardiology, or even OB.
Or maybe he could've been a paramedic, had he wanted to stay in emergency medicine. The pay was much worse, but he could handle that if it meant he could still help people, and he'd always be working with a partner. Maybe even one he'd be close to, like Levi and Matthew were. The ER was a lonely place for him, despite the fact that he was constantly surrounded by a plethora of people, and the idea of working on an ambulance for hours with the same person to talk to and laugh with sounded awfully enticing, though he couldn't help but wonder if he was romanticizing it. And besides, he reasoned, it was too impersonal for him. The idea of picking someone up and handing them over to someone else to probably never see again didn't sit well with him at all. That, and his parents would’ve absolutely killed him had he even suggested a career in the medical field that was anything less than a doctor.
Another fit of deep, rattling coughs shook him from his thoughts. Adventitious breaths reverberated through his lungs, and he knew that he would undoubtedly hear the telltale sounds of rhonchi he was so used to hearing in his patients if he were to check. Tears stung at his eyes, though he managed to hold them back, albeit just barely. He groaned softly, shutting his eyes for just a moment and massaging his temples. Aditya cracked his eyes open again, and glanced at his watch, which told him that he was still on the clock for entirely too long. He thought for a moment about going home sick, but those thoughts were quickly dashed when one of the ER techs practically materialized in front of him, charts in hand.
"EKG from the patient in room 26," they said, handing it to Aditya. "Looks like a STEMI."
Fuck. So much for an easy rest of the day. He took the EKG, looking it over. Or, more accurately, squinting at it. On a good day without his reading glasses, it was a bit of a struggle to make out the thin lines of a cardiac rhythm, but he was sick, and gods, he couldn’t see shit, let alone make out an ST elevation. After a couple more seconds of struggling, he gave up, and decided to just trust the tech's judgment; they were rarely ever wrong, and they saw the patients for far longer and far more often than he did. "...I'll page cardio," he replied, immediately clearing his throat and coughing a couple more times when he realized just how awful he sounded. "Can you move the patient to the trauma bay?"
"Already on it." The tech took the EKG back, then turned around and walked off again.
Aditya tried desperately not to sneeze as he sent for one of the cardiologists on call, then headed for the trauma bay, his head foggy. It was already crowded with nurses and techs, bustling around and working with practiced ease. Aditya felt like he was playing the hardest game of jump rope, trying to figure out where to jump in and when. Normally, he was so good at figuring out where he was needed and what he was supposed to be doing, but the lights were so blindingly bright, and it was entirely too loud, and he felt like his head might split open.
Mercifully, the cardiologist arrived, taking a copy of the patient's EKG and looking it over once before handing it right back. "STEMI," he confirmed, already backing out of the trauma bay. "Bring her up to the cath lab when she's ready."
Aditya could work with that. He sniffled once more before pulling on a pair of gloves and placing himself at the patient's head as the nurses started IVs. "I need an intubation kit." He spoke as loud as he could manage, but it still wasn't much with how absolutely wrecked his throat felt. Nonetheless, it worked, and he was handed what was needed. He thought for a moment, then glanced over at one of the techs, blinking blearily at her for a moment as he struggled to form the words he wanted to say in his mind. "Um… did you- the patient, did- did anyone.. give her anything..?" He internally cringed at how bad that sounded, but he couldn’t think of a different way to ask in his current state.
She blinked at him, raising a brow in confusion. "...medication?" She asked, to which Aditya nodded. "Oh, yeah. Riley gave 5cc diazepam and 1cc midazolam IV a few minutes ago." She nodded her head towards one of the nurses.
Aditya nodded again. At least he knew that meant he was free to intubate, and he was certain he could manage to do that with practiced ease. Though, that was provided he didn't sneeze, which was a horrific thought, but one that was entirely likely. He sniffled thickly, and wrinkled his nose, trying to ward off the persistent tickle. He tilted the patient's head back and anchored it, then grabbed the blade, carefully inserting it into her mouth. Another sniffle, a squint to find the larynx, and he passed the tube through the trachea, breathing a sigh of relief when it went in smoothly.
He cleared his throat and swallowed, sniffling again as he removed his stethoscope from around his neck and checked the patient's breathing on both sides for a couple moments before giving the respiratory therapist a thumbs up and taking a step back, looping his stethoscope back around his neck. He watched the RT ventilate the patient for a moment, his gaze following the patient as one of the nurses and a tech helped wheel the patient out of the trauma bay and in the direction of the elevator.
He let out a soft sigh as the rest of the staff cleared the bay, then pulled off his gloves and threw them away. He held a hand beneath one of the hand sanitizer dispensers, and rubbed it into his hands, the strong scent of alcohol immediately hitting his already sensitive nose. Aditya's nostrils began flaring, his breath hitching, eyes tearing up as the urge to sneeze grew too overwhelming to ignore.
"Hh- hiiH- hhH- hHHH- hk'eESHEWW! hh'ESCHEW!" He sneezed desperately into his hand, coughing a few times and groaning, fishing another tissue from his pocket with his free hand and blowing his nose. He scrubbed at it with the tissue, wincing at the rough material scraping against his sore nose.
He felt like a walking biohazard, attempting to blow his nose one last time before tossing the soggy tissue into the trash and washing his hands. He felt awful exposing his coworkers to his cold, but at this point, it would be more trouble than it was worth to go home early. And besides, it was just a cold. He couldn’t justify going home over a stupid cold. He would simply have to finish up his shift, and hope that no big emergency happened so he wouldn't have to think and he could go home on time.
Luckily for him, the next few hours went by as smoothly as they could, and he clocked out and headed for his car. As he pulled out of the parking lot, he considered stopping somewhere to get food before heading home, but decided against it. He was exhausted, and didn't have much of an appetite, anyway. He tried to recall if he'd eaten at the hospital, but his brain was too foggy to remember if he'd allowed himself another break or stopped to grab a snack. It didn't matter, he decided, pulling into his driveway. He could always eat later.
Aditya was dead tired by the time he managed to drag himself into his house, practically falling through the door, but managing to keep himself upright. He briefly considered showering, figuring it might at least chase away some of his chills and relieve a bit of his congestion, but he decided against that, too; there was no way he could stay standing that much longer, and he didn't have the energy to run a bath.
"Hh- hhH- hiH- hh'keESCHHEW! h'ESCHEW! hhhH- huh'eETSCHEEW! hah'ETSCHEWW! hk'aATSCHEW!" Aditya let out several messy sneezes, sniffling miserably. He didn't bother covering his mouth; he was alone, anyway, and a quick glance at his watch reminded him that he would be for quite a while.
A bit of moisture clung to his eyelashes, which he tried to blink away, but the constant itch of his nose kept rewetting his eyes. He was absolutely miserable, curling up on the couch and clutching a pillow, close to tears as he held it tightly to his chest.
"h'ASCHEEW! hh'aASCHEWW! h'eESCHHEW! heh'ETSCHEW! ht'SCHEEW! hah'kESCHHEWW!" He could barely draw in a breath between sneezes, which he muffled into the pillow he held, sniffling and wiping his nose on it. Aditya let out a few painful coughs, groaning in agony at his aching throat and sore chest.
Everything hurt, and his limbs felt like lead. "hh'ESCHeww..!" He was too tired and breathless to even let out a satisfying sneeze, though it was still just as messy and productive as the rest, thick spray covering the pillow he was sneezing into.
Finally, the sob he'd been holding back choked its way out of his mouth, followed quickly by tears, like the first clap of thunder before the rain. His shoulders shook as he tried not to make a sound, having no reason to be silent, but having been conditioned to. His sniffles were the loudest thing about him, though the quiet whimpers coming from him were audible, as well.
Aditya coughed harshly, his body trembling. He wished more than anything that he wasn't alone, that someone would come through the door and help him, but like always, he was suffering alone and in silence. At best, Levi and Matthew would still be another few hours, and that was if they remembered he existed.
Truly, Aditya loved his friends, but their schedules tended to be less than predictable. And besides, it was stupid of him to expect them to come over right after they'd finished what he hoped was only a 48 hour shift. They both needed rest, too, and gods knew they deserved it, but the thought of being sick all by himself made him cry harder.
His cough was only getting worse, the fits much more frequent and intense now that he wasn't trying to hold them back. He was so tired, and his body was aching terribly. Aditya couldn't bring himself to move at all, not wanting to worsen the dull throb of congestion in his head. He was so cold, but couldn't muster the strength to even pull the blanket that was draped over the couch over his trembling body, trying to think of the last time he had felt so unwell, and what he had done then.
"hahH'ESCHHEW! hhk'eETSCHEWW! Hh- hhh- hHH- hh'kECHEWW! h'SCHHHEWW! h'ASCHEEW! hh'aASCHEWW! hah'ETSCHEWW!" His sneezes were constant, but no amount of them could satiate the itch in his nose. He sniffled, resorting to breathing through his mouth, which only irritated his throat more.
With a groan of discomfort, Aditya shut his eyes, trying to fall asleep before he started sneezing or coughing again. He held the pillow tighter, trying to imagine that he wasn't all alone, though he knew he was. Still, it couldn't hurt to just pretend for a while. He buried his face into the pillow, letting it absorb both his snot and his tears as he managed to doze off into a light, fitful sleep, too exhausted to do anything other than try to sleep. He could only hope that he would have the energy to at least attempt to take care of himself when he woke up.
Pairing: Harry Hook/Uma
Rating: Mature
On the Isle
“Those will be expensive.” The brunette teen across the conter of the make-shift apothecary shop glanced down at the small pill bottle Uma was holding in her hand.
Uma gave Ginny Gothel an unimpressed look. “I know.”
Ginny grinned. “They can get you fucked up good, though. You tryna kill someone?”
Uma snorted. “I’m not the type to try poisoning. If I wanted someone dead, they’d be dead.”
The other teenager nodded. She was well aware of Uma’s reputation- on the isle, it was impossible not to be. Especially with te core four and Malifacent gone, Uma was a power to be reckoned with.
Uma slid something across the counter. “This worth enough?”
Ginny gave a low whistle. “That much pure pixey dust? Yeah, sounds like a fair trade.”
Uma nodded, pulling the brim of her hat lower as she walked out of the store.
When she arrived back at the ship, she went straight to her cabin. Carefully, she ground one of the pills into a fine powder, mixing it with a glass of the coarse rum the crew drank.
“Harry?” she called, stepping back out of the cabin, drink in hand.
“Yes, Uma?” Harry said, appearing by her side as if by magic.
“Drink this.”
The first mate gave her an odd look, but swallowed the drink without hesitation. He always obeyed Uma without hesitation.
She walked away, not bothering to explain.
After five days on the pills, Harry stopped having episodes of manically crying and laughing
Ten days, his paranoia was at an all-time low.
A month, and he finally- finally- began to sleep at night.
The pills were expensive. But to Uma, they were worth it.
In Auradon
“They want me to take a mood stabilizer, an antidepressant, and antiphsycotics.” Harry’s voice was dripping with disdain.
Uma sighed. “Would that really be so bad?”
They were laying together on one of the beds in Uma’s room at auradon prep.
Harry gave her an indignant look. “I didn’t want ta meet with this… brain doctor in ta first place! Ye made me go.”
Uma petted a hand throug Harry’s hair, and he relaxed slightly.
“I’ve been giving you psyche meds in your food and drink for years.”
Harry stiffened. “Say wot now?”
Uma smirked, pulling harry so his head rested on her chest. “Those drinks I gave you? I used to buy the pills from Ginny Gothel. I’d crush them up and put them in your rum like you were a puppy.”
Harry made a serious of spluttering noises. “But- why would ye waste resources on that? Of all things?”
“Not a waste.” Uma pulled im closer. “Taking care of my good boy is never a waste.” She kissed his nose. “And maybe… medication isn’t the worst thing in the world.”
“If I have to take antipsychotics, you need to take the sleeping pills they prescribed. And the ones for your anxiety.”
Uma snorted a laugh. “Deal.”
She pulled him closer.
And that night, they both slept nightmare free.
the workplace drama in the modern AU must go crazy.
under the cut w the highest hopes that makes it not show up in the searches. no one look at me.
it is downright infernal. the scions & the ascians are coworkers. fourchenault is there. nero is there. yotsuyu is there. asahi is banned from the workplace. the zeroes can be here if you all wish them to be. somehow zenos & emet coexist at similar ish ages. siblings? can you imagine? horrifying prospect. i think it's funny if it's the case. fandaniel has no reason to take on asahi's appearance anymore but he does it to uh, piss asahi off, i guess. guy who puts himself in a situation he doesn't like ("double date" with zenos & hilde/emet. no one is happy about this. he's not at all into zenos or anything this is purely a self destructive act that everyone involved either agreed to to humour him hoping for some reason this was an actual thing he wanted to do, went along because who give a shit or went along because someone begged them to try & humour him. yeah that's hilde zenos & emet in order) to be a nuisance to someone else. maybe he's friends with yotsuyu. maybe that's why he's trying to ruin asahi's life. compels me. on that note i wonder what fandaniel would go by. amon perhaps? seems to be what he'd favour at least like. from what i can tell. he's probably a system. in fact i can't imagine him not plural
i havent decided if athena is alive or dead in that scenario. athena being alive would be horrifying probably. i feel like she would somehow find a way to make going to work as high stakes as endwalker is. due to her problems. it's very scary to think about! emet steals thancred's lunch & gives it to hilde as a "gift" (he is NOT eating that himself & he knows hilde needs to eat more than he does so. he gets the free lunch) every single time someone steals his own lunch. doesn't matter if thancred isn't the one who stole it because emet does not like him
i think estinien steals the lunch more often than not & it's entirely bc he forgot what he brought/if he brought anything at all. causing the eighth calamity by being forgetful & he's just sitting there eating the food without a care in the world
there most certainly is some evil shit going on there but tbh a lot of it is everyone being exposed to cid & nero doing whatever the fuck it is they do. because they're both there. yeah this office has five billion employees (ok some of them are just there in the AU due to their connections w other characters who do work at the office. but i'll work out who does what at a later date). when haurchefant brings pastries for everyone it is a beautiful day where no one fights WRONG!!! all out war. even though he made sure to bring enough for everyone. also hilde & haurche probably dated in high school then parted on good terms at some point. of course bc of hildes #problems. they're still good friends
i like to think the whole thing w hilde & emet is being like. followed with bated breath by a lot of them. because they really dance around it for so long it just becomes the office's sports to watch them will they wont they lmao. nero doesnt give a fuckkkk hes usually mostly here to do repairs & whatnot until he hears thancred complain about it at which point he makes a completely uncalled for remark toward him in which 1. he probably has 0 stakes in 2. he may not even have any room to speak on the matter in question he's just ready & willing to be a bitch to the guy being a bitch abt his brother. yes they are still brothers in this au. good luck to this office
the ascian/ancient beef is unparalleled though. i shudder to think of what nabriales brings to the table.
#asks#royaltyfreeramblings#ffposting#should i have a tag for the office au. what should it be.#this could be longer but my head in fact hurts a lot rn
