Doctor Leonard McCoy x Reader: Risks
Word Count: tba
Warnings/Notes: gender neutral, worried Leonard, minor angst, established relationship, red shirt security officer!Reader.
Summary: Leonard is worried about the Reader's upcoming mission. How can they reassure him?
Tumblr media
The starship Enterprise. Your home away from home, and your inescapable place of work.
Something else that was inescapable, was the risk of what your job might bring. But also, one other thing. The high risk of a certain someone giving their bias but completely honest input. Your partner.
Standing off to the side in your living quarters, you watched Leonard observantly. The chief medical officer paced in an oblong circle with his hands on his hips. It was not an unusual sight, but it was also not the best. He tended to act in such a way when you received news of an upcoming shift of yours. One that would take you off of the ship and out of his reach. The way he paced could last between a couple of seconds to a short medical procedure.
Abruptly, he stopped and turned to you. His brows were only partially furrowed. "Could you... Maybe... Not do something that'll land you in medbay?"
You hardly suppressed a smile. "I thought you liked my visits." It was not as if you went because of an injury. But, it was something that you both wanted to avoid if it came to that.
"You know that I mean," he said, pursing a frown off of his lips. "I can't have you running around after Jim like he's an accident prone toddler." He huffed, as if through sheer thought he could feel those emotions arise.
You adjusted your red security uniform casually. "Well, someone's got to keep the captain out of trouble." To reason with him would prove challenging, but worth it. As you stepped closer into his personal space, you kept eye contact. "Besides, I can't possibly have him taking up all of your time if he does. That would be outrageously selfish of him."
Leonard sighed, dipping his head down for a moment before looking back up into your eyes. "Just promise me that you'll be careful? Please?"
Placing your palms flat on his chest, you let a calm take over your voice. "I'll come back to you in one piece," you said, a smile perking up on your lips as his arms wrapped around you. "And I'll be ready to bother the daylights out of you when I do."
"How reassuring." Despite his words, there was no visible frown. A sparkle in his eyes perhaps?
He cared so deeply and passionately. But because of that, some times his words came off as rough or accusing. Not so much when he was with you though.
You likewise understood the dangers and risks of space travel and exploration. The passion and devotion you shared for helping others brought you two together. More specifically for a time, it was Jim Kirk, but still.

What on earth is going on in the Star Trek fandom today, it's like my dash exploded
lol 28 years ago today, the Star Trek Voyager episode "Threshold" aired. The premise of the episode was that humans cannot travel at or faster than warp 10, because if they do, they would be traveling at "infinite velocity" and would exist in all points of space time simultaneously. Tom Paris found a way to travel at this speed, and doing so accidentally hyper-evolved him and his captain (Janeway) into giant salamanders, whereupon they immediately reproduced and created 3 baby salamanders. They were then turned back into normal humans, and forced to leave their salamander babies on the planet they had escaped to.
The episode was long held as the worst star trek episode. Not just the worst Star Trek Voyager episode, but the worst episode, period, because it was extremely weird and people turning into salamanders greatly annoyed a lot of people who don't know what fun is. Tumblr, having discovered this episode like excavating an exciting fossil, has taken a shine to this episode and many people now produce art and memes and eat pepperoni pizza in celebration of its air date, mostly to annoy the episode's creator, as in a very Arthur Conan Doyle way, he hates this episode and wants it de-canonized.
Anyway, happy Threshold Day!

I know the holidays can be stressful, so this Threshold Day try to keep in mind what really matters. It's not about the gifts or the shopping, it's about breaking the warp barrier. Threshold Day is meant to be a time of transformation (into a lizard), love (for your captain/lizard wife), and spending time with your family (of lizard babies) before you abandon them on a planet forever and never think about them again.
Happy Threshold Day everyone, and don't forget to leave milk and cookies out for Tom Paris as he travels at warp 10 and exists simultaneously at every point in the universe!

People honestly portray Tuvok as far too "rolling his eyes, reluctantly going along with Janeway's silly little shenanigans" - he's literally so serious about being right there with her on every decision she makes. Janeway's like "I'm going to stay behind if the ship blows up" and Tuvok's like "I'm staying with you." Janeway's like "I'm going to deliver every member of the Equinox crew into the jaws of death via an alien revenge massacre" and Tuvok protests a grand total of one time before being fully on the bridge assisting her. He was the only one with her when she made the decision to honor the caretaker's wishes and save the Ocampa, dooming them all. He was willing to get court marshalled in order to fulfill a wish she couldn't grant by her own hand: Get them home [no matter what happens to me] <- wherein 'me' is Tuvok. This was the same wish that spurred him forward when he had to leave her on that planet and everyone left thought him cold for trying to fulfill it without her when in his mind it was akin to a dying wish, the last thing she'd ever express to him: Get them home [no matter what happens to me.] <- wherein 'me' is Janeway. He told Seven that the golden rule to follow is that the captain is "ALWAYS RIGHT" <- (His ACTUAL words) and when Seven asks if the captain should be followed even if someone KNOWS she's wrong he says "Perhaps." This man is perhaps the most ride or die dude in the universe about Janeway. Despite her labeling him her 'moral compass' he is by NO means impartial or unbiased. He'd defend her to his last breath. He canonically makes detailed psychological observations about her and has for years. He accounts for her luck when calculating the success of certain plans. It's implied in 'Twisted' that Janeway typically listens to Tuvok's suggestions and follows them nearly without fail - to the point that he's surprised and obviously irritated when Chakotay doesn't. Despite this they've been inside one another's quarters so infrequently that Tuvok can remember each instance. They call each other "Captain" and "Mr. Tuvok" even though they've known each other for twenty years. There's something wrong with them.
