As soon as James closes the door behind him, the broom cupboard is completely dark, and he reaches for his wand.

“Reg?” James whispers, stepping further into the cupboard. “Lumos.” He casts as soon as his wand is in his hand.

James and Regulus both startle when they nearly collide with each other. Regulus is about to stumble backwards but James is able to wrap his hand around Regulus’ waist to steady him.

“Hi.” James whispers once they’ve settled.

“Hi.” Regulus smiles.

James brings his hand up with the intention of tucking a curl behind Regulus’ ear, but apparently he forgot he’s still holding his wand.

“Could you not shine that right in my eyes?” Regulus closes his eyes and turns his head.

“Sorry. Sorry.” James says quickly and lowers his wand. “So…” He starts when Regulus is looking at him again. “What’s going on? You were very cryptic.”

“Well…” Regulus takes a deep breath and starts fidgeting with his hands. “I erm… I wanted to see… I didn’t know if it would be okay… and if it’s not, that’s okay, too… but I just thought… erm…”

“Reg?” James takes Regulus’ hand and Regulus takes another deep breath.

“I wanted to ask if I could still come home with you for the Hols?” Regulus whispers.

“What?!” James shrieks and lifts both hands in excitement.

“James.” Regulus squeezes his eyes shut again when James shines his light directly in his face.

“Sorry. Sorry.” James says quickly and lowers his hands. “But what?! Do you mean it?!” James asks, his voice overflowing with excitement.

“I mean… only if it’s still okay. And really, if it’s not—" Regulus starts but James cuts him off by lifting him off the ground in a tight hug and spinning in a circle.

“Of course it’s okay!!” James is smiling so wide his cheeks hurt. “It’s more than okay!!”

“James. Put me down.” Regulus giggles and James puts him down.

“You’re really coming home with me?!” James says, and it’s part question, part statement, and part of a little happy dance James starts to do.

“Not—" Regulus reaches out and grabs James’ wrist that’s right in front of his face. “—if you keep shining that light in my eyes.”

“Sorry.” James says softly and lowers his arms. “Nox.” He whispers before sliding his wand in his pocket and wrapping both arms around Regulus’ waist.

“Well, now I can’t see you at all.” Regulus whispers, sliding his arms around James’ neck.

“I think we’ll manage.” James says, leaning down to kiss Regulus.

“I thought you loved me?”

Arda grins the moment he separates from his teammates, approaching you with a smile you know he’s worked hard for. His arms are sprawled wide open, one hand holding a sports towel, and the moment he’s got a hold of you, he picks you up and spins you around, a loud laugh roaring in his chest.

“I love you most,” he retorts, setting you down after your happy shrieks, lightly hitting the base of his neck to be put down. Without wasting time, he hugs your neck, pulling you close to him while rocking your body back and forth.

“Shut up,” you whine, while wrapping your arm around his body. “You betrayed me, Güler. How could you?”

“Georgia put up a fight, you know,” he mumbles against your hair. Your nose scrunches at the sweat dripping from the strands of his hand, but you decide to rest your head against his chest.

“First time in Euros, and you embarrass us like this,” you mutter with a pout, “I can’t believe you.”

“First time in Euros with a banging debut goal!” He tries cheering you up, still burying his face against the scent of your hair.

“You’re just saying that to make me feel better,” you roll your eyes, and shift away only to be greeted with his grin, widening.

“Of course I am,” he gushes before shaking his head. “Sorry.”

Seeing his excitement, the way his eyes glisten with pride, you felt a pang of warmth beginning to spread in your chest.

“You’re so repulsive,” you mumble, gripping the collar of his neck so that he’d be closer to you. Arda purses his lips, though the smile never leaves his eyes. You lean up to press your lips against his. “I’m so proud of you.”

Arda pulls away, putting the towel he holds on his shoulder before placing both hands on your waist. “Told the journalists that I have more dreams to realise,” he muses with a beam, “do you think they’d find me annoying?”

“After a goal like that?” You smile, kissing his cheek. “There’s nowhere for you to go but up.”

The glint in his gaze, for some reason, lights up even more. “You think so?”

You roll your eyes. “I know so.”

He pulls you closer, “I love you.”

You press in a smile, acting disgusted at his sweaty jersey touching more of your skin.

“I love you—” You shriek as he attempts to engulf you in a hug, “Wait— get away from me!”

I know you don't really talk about Tim and Jason but I wondered why you said that Bruce likes Jason more then Tim when I always viewed it the other way around

Anon it's a such a coincidence for me to get this because this was something I actively debated over while creating the ranking.

In fact, originally I had written "4. Jason/Tim (tie?) 5. Tim/Jason (tie)" before I got rid of the slashes and ties.

This is the one part of the ranking that I'm most confused on/don't have an exact answer for. The rest are solid and those I'll be explaining in a different post soon but these two gave me a lot of confusion.

I think what it comes down to is in which shitty way that Bruce treats either of them expresses more love. And to me they're roughly the same in equally but different bad ways.

Bruce obviously loves Jason but he's also not remotely proud of him. His relationship with Jason is always "I love you BUT-" kinda relationship.

There's always an opposing side to every good thing Bruce says about him. He views Jason as a failure but he still loves him and yet can't help putting him down. After Bruce dies, he leaves a message for Jason -

Like Bruce full on treats him like absolute shit. How could you as a parent tell your son straight to his face that he's a failure and then say that it's your fault?? Somehow this is adding more insult than injury than to just blame him directly.

Bruce and Jason had good and bad times when he was Robin. There many times when Bruce was like "Good job, lab!" and other times when he struggled to deal with Jason. There was one case in particular that soured their relationship irrevocably. Things became really bad between them after that such that Bruce actively fights with himself not to lose his temper at Jason more than he used to.

Things get worse and worse, Batman benches him, Jason runs off to Ethiopia, and then you-know-what happens. In summary of their Robin-Batman relationship, Bruce thought he found a good partner in Jason, was happy for a while, but then started believing he made a mistake when Jason used the skills he taught him to go past the limits of what Bruce was acceptable with. The secret Bruce talks about is that one irreversible case I mentioned - Gloria/Felipe - where Jason killed a man. Or atleast Bruce suspects he killed a man.

When Jason came back as Red Hood, Batman felt so guilty for the fact that he made Jason robin because then Jason wouldn't have died but also believed that Jason was beyond saving. When Jason was at the hands of the society because of Black Mask who wanted revenge on him for what he did, Bruce almost let Jason die a second time - this time intentionally - before he changed his mind last minute and joined the fight to help him out.

It's this type of relationship I struggle with because Bruce very much loves him and even says so -

Tough love.

Maybe, but I guess how I would make out their relationship to be is: if Jason acts within Bruce's expectations, then Bruce loves him. If he doesn't then Bruce doesn't hold back hitting and punching. I don't think their relationship is tough love as much as it is conditional love. There are conditions to the way Jason must act in order for Bruce to love him and if he doesn't act that way then he stops caring about his son. He's happy if Jason comes to gatherings but doesn't particularly care if he doesn't. He leaves Jason alone if he follows his rules but actively goes after him if he doesn't. Both in his Robin days and now, Bruce doesn't tolerate Jason if he acts outside expectation but still loves him and although it's not the kind of love you would appreciate, it's also not the kind you can set aside and call it nothing. It's complicated. That's Jason and Bruce's relationship.

Tim on the other hand, he's very proud of. He thinks Tim is excellent, smart, dependable, and loves him very much.

But I feel like Bruce takes him for granted.

Bruce was both neglectful and very involved in Tim's life.

Bruce means a lot to Tim in the sense that he was a true father to him.

Tim's dad Jack gets really worried that Tim might consider Bruce more of a father than him. "Maybe - But I'm your father, Tim. Not him!"

The developing relationship between Bruce and Tim was based originally on need. Bruce needed someone who he could work with and Tim needed someone who could be there for him. As time evolved that need turned into liking which turned into love.

After Jason, Bruce needed someone who listened to him completely. Someone who never questioned him or doubted his orders and Tim was everything Bruce needed and he loved that.

Bruce invested a LOT of time into Tim's training and he also depends on him heavily but at the same time I feel like he constantly brushes off Tim's words and worries.

The classic "I trust you but I know better than you" x 10. And it's this thing that gives me doubts because I get this inexplicable sense of distance in their relationship. Bruce loves, trusts, and cares for him but I feel like there's something missing.

This being said, I realize that there's no clear explanation as to why I feel this way so I'll change the ranking back to "tie" for the two of them like I originally had. Because while Bruce loves Jason, he doesn't tolerate him and while Bruce loves Tim, he kinda disregards him in a way. And between these situations, I can't decide what represents more love or favoritism. I guess a part of me just felt really, REALLY bad for the way Bruce treated Jason. That post kinda shredded my heart so I gave him brownie points on the favoritism ranking list but in hindsight, after all this and writing it all out, I think Bruce loves Tim and Jason equally. It's entirely possible Bruce may actually love Tim more because unlike with Jason, I can't provide evidence of Bruce distancing himself from Tim in loving - only left with more of a sense. So in this case I agree with you, anon. It's very possible.

Ears Ringing

Dogday was known for his bubbly and cheerful personality, being the leader of the smiling critters! And the leader was supposed to be a role model, fearless and brave. Right?

Well, dogs had very good hearing. And that was a curse and a blessing.. During a sleepover, loud thunder was cracking outside and causing the poor canine to whimper and shake under his blankets. You frowned and gently got out from your sleeping bag, gently placing your paw on his back. “Dogday?” You asked softly, slowly pulling the blanket off his shaking form.

The dog was clutching his ears with all his strength as he had his eyes shut tight, whimpering and breathing raggedly with his tail tucked between his legs from the thunder. He couldn't hear anything besides the loud thumping of his heartbeat and the ringing that the storm had caused, sounding like a dog whistle that just wouldn't stop blowing. The noise was too loud, why couldn't it just stop? All he wanted was for it to stop. That's all he was asking for. He struggled to take a breath in, pitifully releasing it and sniffling as his stomach was sunken in and his chest struggled to come back down after puffing out with every gasp of air he took as his thoughts raced at the same pace of his heart if not faster.

You were shocked by the sight.. poor Dogday. He always acted so brave and fearless for the crew, always so happy no matter what. But everyone had their fears, no one was perfect. Not even the sun could always shine very bright. You carefully pulled him up into a sitting position, prying his hands away from his ears with tenderness. It hurt your heart a bit to hear him wince as soon as they were uncovered. “Hey, hey.. it's okay..” you said softly, gently pulling him against your chest. One ear blocked by your chest, the other by your hand. He was still unable to open his eyes no matter how hard he tried, as if he would see the noise that's haunting him so much.

You caressed his fluffy ear and rubbed his shoulder with your paw, rocking him back and forth with your own body and cooing softly at him. You heard one last shaky whimper from him before feeling his body slowly relax in your touch. “It'll be alright Dogday.. I'm so proud of you, it'll be okay.”

He finally got a moment of peace, drifting to sleep after a long while.

BNHA Chapter 425 - Thoughts

So I guess Hori did decide to just skip the end of the battle, my hospital academia and go straight to UA graduation?

It was teased back in Ch 360, so yeah it needed to happen and it seems like drawing Neijire is a special happy place for Hori (also the sketch he couldn't even wait until Sunday to drop, lol)

Mic DJ-ing right after ShiraGiri's death is sort of odd, but on top of the gags, there are some more serious moments.

What stood out to me was Mirio's comment about how the heroes' fight "is always for the sake of returning the negatives to zero on the whole." It reminded me of Ch 341 - The Story of how We All Became Heroes Minus ① which featured Touya, Toga, Spinner and of course Tomura suffering the transformation. So I can't help but feel it's related to the LoV's fate.

The class is together 😭 crying like a proud parent (whose tumblr handle just became obsolete).... and Aizawa is staying. Yay. After 400+ chapters they made it to second year!!!

Bakugou omg, out of the hospital in a tie which he somehow tied with one hand, being calm... (it's still odd to the others? - but I guess his apology happened like 3 weeks ago in-verse). It seems like he might end up with a scar, just like Izuku (and it's a bit like Kudou's, of course).

Aoyama leaving - I talked about this in one of the asks, but for me it's ok that it's his choice being respected and that the class clearly would be happy to have him stay. Though I wonder if his parents are just suddenly given amnesty for being "AFO's victims" and what that may mean for other villains.

Shinsou joins Class A long at last. Yay! Is he going to get Aoyama's room or join the 5th floor boys? I do wonder if the kids are still in the dorms even.

The Fuwa-stans are getting fed. But Class 2-A (can't get used to this...) will take a year long field trip around Japan. Reminds me of the 100 million tour newpaper sketches.

I liked Shoto mentioning AFO - how he was born in an era of turmoil (which I read as him saying that preventing the rise of such villains is now). It also seems to contradict what All Might said last chapter about Deku already being the greatest hero to everyone.

But also Shouto speaks. Normal speech bubbles. Has a normal voice! Yay! (still don't get it why he didn't speak in Ch 422 though)

Izuku looks troubled. Either because of what Shouto said or because of Fuwa senpai's comments about needing to experience a sudden death to understand why you'd want to be a hero. He certainly is not ready to run celebratory circles.

Watch them all walk together (TDBK covered by Iida's speech bubble, but I recognize them from Shouto's messenger bag and Katsuki's loose pants)

OMG, these guys are a total disaster. I don't know what Deku wanted to say, but Ochako obviously shut him down (and thought it was about her "let him rest" speech which apparently the class keeps teasing her for). Also Hori is using her to explain Deku's haircut.

And here, she looks weirdly happy compared to last time, but it could be just a front...

No idea who the new guy is, but looks like someone escaped / let loose from a medical facility. Could be regenerated Tenko I guess or someone similar to him who can be saved by Deku this time. I prefer it to be the real Tenko because I want to see Tenko Rising. I think he looks too young to be Deku's dad tbh.

TDDK scene !!! Yay!!! (I wonder if Deku tries to talk both to Ochako and Shouto because of his feelings about Tenko... I really badly want a saviour squad scene)

Todoroki looks hopeful but not sure if it's genuine (it could be putting on a front to stop Izuku from worrying). But his foot is like when he went to see his mom the first time, so I tend to read that right now as a good sign.

"っし" (?????) - there is definitely a shift of emotion.

Endeavor is sitting in front of a giant tank / or secure room window. (?) (Probably the same window Shouto was looking in last chapter.

From the context and framing it's clear that it's Touya. For now alive. Endeavor is finally keeping his promise and is watching.

And the editorial blurb also suggests we may get Hellish Todoroki Family 3 after the two weeks break. I'm very worried, but also since we are strapping in for a longer epilogue it seems, I don't expect things to go smoothly for them just yet.

As a person who LOVES the gruff parent adopting a random kid trope - I would give an absurd amount of money for a D+ show that focused on Doctor Strange and America Chavez solving mystical mysteries and multiverse shenanigans.

Of course there would be other characters like Wong, Clea, Daredevil & Spiderman (after every interaction with Spidey, Stephen is like “wonder who that kid is”).

Stephen’s arc would focus on him reconciling the effects of using the darkhold. America’s arc would focus on her finding her place in this universe (after having experienced so many) & acknowledging her trauma. They both help each other with their arcs. Taking America under his wing serves as a grounding force for Stephen. Stephen trains her and is also dedicated to helping her find her moms.

Some hypothetical headcanons for this hypothetical show:

* Stephen introduces America to classic rock n’ roll. She calls it “old music” to annoy him but enjoys the music nonetheless

* Stephen being like “I don’t want kids. I’m not good with kids” and then being the most protective person in the room. He’s constantly like “America don’t!” - despite the fact that he knows what she’s capable of. Whenever Spiderman and America team up, Stephen nearly bursts a blood vessel

* America & the Cloak of Levitation become very close. Anytime she’s missing her moms more than usual, Cloak is the first thing to comfort her.

* Stephen eventually downloads Duolingo to learn Spanish, mostly so he can understand when Wong & America chat in Spanish

* Wong comes to visit the Sanctum. He walks in with a wide grin and greets “how is her training going!!” And finds the place in total chaos, like that one Community meme. He’s like “…as expected.”

* Stephen tells her stories about Iron Man and all he’s heard about Steve Rogers & Natasha Romanoff. She, in turn, tells him stories about them from the universes she’s visited. It puts him at ease a bit, hearing that they’re happy & okay elsewhere.

* America is still stunned & confused by the stuff she sees in this universe. She’s like “you guys can carry video games in your pocket! Sick!” but is also like “you don’t have world peace? Earth-422 figured that out a long time ago.”

Just some thoughts :)
