Tomorrow I'm going to take the bus without my wheelchair for the first time EVER and I'm gonna go get some food!!!!!!! I'm unbelievably emotional about it, the fact that I've gotten to a point where I'm confident I can walk a couple hundred meters.. So confident that I'll even do it without someone walking w me w my wheelchair as a backup.... Fuck dude how did I get to this point. What the fuck did I do to deserve this.
#Having a chronic illness w ups and downs is so fucking wild sometimes#Like I'm still very fucking disabled#But..... I'M GETTING FOOD AND I GONNA DO IT WHILE WALKING!!!!!!!!#I checked on Google maps and it'll be 400 meters total!!!!!!!#FOUR HUNDRED METERS YALL!!!!! I CAN DO THAT!!!!! I'VE DONE 600!!!!!!!!!!#😭😭😭😭😭#It's giving crazy emotions#Esp bc.. Lupus will always fucking be here and it'll always bite me in the ass eventually#But I'm taking real good care of myself and it's paying off#I'm still sick but I'm doing really good. That feels so weirddddd#I still get daily pain and I need to sleep if I've done the dishes or went to the store#BUT I CAN WALK 400 M!!!!!!!! (and then sleep w my feet elevated...... But still!!!!!)#Special shoutout to compression socks tho I could never do this without that queen 🙏

re: the ableism in Dot and Bubble
I understand it almost certainly wasn't Rusty's intention for the "can't walk without the arrows" thing to be ableist, but the implications are there and it was so, so hard to watch.
As I said while liveblogging, I've noted that reliance on tech like Google Maps has caused a regression in skills like navigation and a frustrating refusal to even try. I'm frequently faced with that fact as I live somewhere you have to use your eyes to see and most fast food delivery drivers just Cannot Find Us bc the GPS goes wild and they can't follow the directions I always give them so I inevitably have to go out to find them myself. Believe me, I know what he was going for with that part of the script.
However.
When you exaggerate that point to the tune of "she literally cannot walk" without the aid, and then instead of it being deeply disturbing to the two 'kind, helpful' characters (Doc n Ruby), they actively roll their eyes at her and it's played as an "omg how stupid is she" moment, you have to see how that looks.
Let's reframe it: someone you've met was raised in a cult. A very insular, very strict cult that they literally have never seen outside of. At this point in time you know nothing about them but you do know they're in a very insular, very closed-off society. One day they tell you they have no idea how to,,,,,, idk, wash themselves without assistance. If your first instinct is to laugh at them and roll your eyes like they're overexaggerating, you're an ableist.
I struggle to believe anyone like the Doctor wouldn't perhaps initially react with confusion/incredulity but then, after realising this person is 100% serious, go "oh my god that's horrible okay uh let me try to walk you through this and teach you how".
It's a horrible, cynical response that would maybe track if at this point the characters already knew she was an entitled pissbaby. But they don't and that's why it comes across so terribly.
Especially when there's no indication that this is a side-effect of her entitlement and she's literally insulting herself "I'm so stupid!" and genuinely upset and frustrated that she can't even walk in the face of actual death. And yes, she miraculously can walk again once she meets Ricky but it wasn't because she was ignoring the Doctor's advice because racism because he had not given her any. She had literally zero clue how to walk without assistance until Ricky guided her.
This isn't a refusal to learn a skill based on entitlement, this isn't a heavy-handed metaphor, you have given this girl a disability (even if it is psychosomatic, it is still a disability). And in a time where social media + youth entitlement is being blamed for an increase of ADHD, Autism, chronic illness and DID diagnosis-seekers (among other things, but those are the ones people are most aggressive against) that just does not look good At All.
Russel could easily have made it so that they just had no idea how to navigate without the bubble and refused to learn.
Maybe at first show it as genuine frustration on Lindy's part that she can't find anything without guidance but slowly show that no, she's perfectly capable, she just doesn't care to learn.
Hell, you could have everything play out the same way but have her genuinely get offered help to begin with by the Doctor and ignore it, only for Ricky to say the same thing to her later and she gets it immediately.
Idk, anything beyond literally disabling her. The show does a great job at humanising her before showing us that she was a monster all along, but I feel like Rusty himself forgot that he was still representing a Whole Entire Person (something that people on all ends of the political spectrum do All The Time: "person is bad therefore [___ism] is okay in this instance". Ableism especially)
#doctor who#dw#dw spoilers#dot and bubble#ableism#rtd critical#idk it was a good episode for the allegory it was mostly going for#but once again RTD has neglected the minorities he isn't explicitly thinking about#and it's not entirely his fault because he IS trying and he IS improvving#but he is SO white and able bodied and cis and old#and it reflects in his writing#this episode *needed* a guest writer so badly#or at least sensitivity checks#bc it's clear they don't have that even just from the heavy use of ableist slurs in the Unleashed ep

20 questions for fic writers
Yoinked from the lovely @sallysavestheday and @melestasflight!
1. How many works do you have on Ao3? 65, though one is a compilation of unrelated short pieces.
2. What’s your total Ao3 word count? 199,601
3. What fandoms do you write for? Mostly Tolkien, though I have a few older bits and bobs from other fandoms hanging around.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos? In terms of kudos, my various Kidnap Fam stories are overwhelmingly my most popular:
A Stitch in Time (Elrond's life as seen by a quilt)
And They Looked Up and Saw a Star (Early-days Kidnap Fam WIP)
Root and All (Kidnap Fam feat. Maedhros, Elrond, and botany)
Speak No Evil (Kidnap Fam feat. Orkish lessons)
Little Drop of Poison (Kidnap Fam feat. injured Maedhros and healer Elrond)
5. Do you respond to comments? I try to respond to them all, but sometimes my responses are very late, especially if the comment comes when I'm having a depressive episode or a chronic illness flare-up.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Leaving aside unfinished multichaps that will have angsty endings but haven't gotten there yet, it's probably either The Hearts of the Eldar (the Third Kinslaying and all that it entails) or Pain Unbearable (Maedhros' death).
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Probably Half Past Ten in the Rose Garden (Caranthir/Caranthir's Wife engagement rom-com). Still debating whether I should add another chapter or wrap it where it is.
8. Do you get hate on fics? Only ever on fics featuring Fingon's wife. Some people get real heated about those.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I don't, nor do I read it. It's very much Not My Thing. I think the closest I've come is The Bed We Share (Fingon/Fingon's Wife, Fingon/Maedhros), which does have a sex scene, but it's not particularly detailed.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? No, though I do enjoy reading them on occasion. I'm going to take this opportunity to recommend Evidence by Camwyn on FF.N, which is the single most delightful crossover I've ever read. (Silmarillion/Discworld)
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes! A kind reader translated Root and All into Russian, where it seems to have been moderately well-received, at least from what I can tell using Google Translate.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Nope. I suppose I'd be willing to give it a shot, but I do have Very Strong characterization opinions that might make it difficult.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? Maedhros/Fingon! Though Elrond/Celebrian and Caranthir/Caranthir's Wife are close seconds, and Glorfindel/Erestor and Legolas/Gimli are very old and longstanding favorites as well.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Things ain't lookin' good for The Longest Journey I Have Known (Fingon's wife and Celebrian travel to Valinor). I am Extremely Stuck.
16. What are your writing strengths? Worldbuilding, character dynamics, and description.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? PLOT. God, I am so bad at come up with interesting plots. Also probably pacing, I need to improve in that respect.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I do it rarely -- in fact I think Maps might be the only Silmarillion story where I've done it. I included a Quenya translation of part of a Yiddish folk song, and in that case I had help from the Lizard Council, and particularly from the esteemed and dearly missed Darth Fingon, who looked over my translation and corrected a few errors.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Star Wars, back in, uh, 1999, I think? I've been doing this for a good 25 years.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written? Girl, that's like asking a mother to choose her favorite child! But if I absolutely must pick, it's probably The Flight of Birds, which features Elrond, newly arrived on Balar, dealing with his conflicted feelings about his mother.
Tagging @thelordofgifs, @vidumavi, @cuarthol, @swanhild, @leucisticpuffin, @emyn-arnens, @polutrope, @welcomingdisaster, @zealouswerewolfcollector, @that-angry-noldo, @thescrapwitch, @spiritofwhitefire, @swanmaids, @hhimring, @elfscribe, and anyone else who wants to share -- @ me and say I tagged you!

okay okay so thoughts on unwanted guest. this is mix of my thoughts when reading and my thoughts thinking back on the overall thing afterwards. My later thoughts will just be distinguished by 'future notes/FN' and everything else is my initial read through.
See below:
Reading the first section and I'm having to tell myself that not everything is an Utena reference. Probably.
Gaudy masks aside from Palamedes whose mask is taped together? Well, that's sure not a metaphor wdym. Guy's been all pieces since GtN.
Ooh the layout is literal script/theatre production? Nice nice. (FN: No wonder it went meta with audience interaction)
Palamedes soliloquy on social etiquette my beloved...
Ianthe playing multiple roles? This is theatre fr
"Almond room"? So... old-style butler, almond, is this a murder mystery ft. cyanide this time?
Coffins 1 through 7... there are nine houses so I'm blanking a bit on the meaning of this. Seven can be considered 'lucky' but somehow I doubt that's it
"A pair of leather trousers" we're losing historical accuracy for the sake of the Draco in Leather Pants reference. Fair enough. (FN: I googled how long leather pants have been around. It's been centuries. Oops.)
"Inspector"? Murder mystery vibes are growing
"You said that three visits ago". This is the second reference to Palamedes having done this before. I wonder how many attempts we've missed. Still, that provides context for his clothes earlier despite he himself being "uninjured"?
I would love to annoy Ianthe via an incredibly long-winded Pokemon battle
Well-timed middle finger from Ianthe
He asks if she's going to play fair and she's already there using genie wish rules 😔
"I'm kind of into the trousers though" Voice confirmed for either Palamedes himself or Muir self-insert (FN: lol)
"The soul is the only thing capable of supplying power without being consumed in the process" interesting. that goes against pretty much everything I know about science but Palamedes is still there trying to science it and that's why the conclusions he draws are so different from Ianthe's? Not to underestimate Ianthe. She was able to backwards engineer lyctorhood. Just, Pal is a STEM guy and it shows
Talking about decay makes me think souls as a radiation metaphor? I mean. To be fair. Nuclear war on Earth would definitely have upped the background radiation there for… quite some time. So it's literal in some ways too. (FN: in retrospect not quite sure I agree with myself about radiation metaphor given how souls having half lives would imply the initial rate of decay is pretty fast and then it slows down. which, yes sure, it could be? But the way it's worded seems to be more of a gradual siphoning so that the reduction in energy won't be noticed for millennia rather than a huge drop and then the rate of energy dropping decreases. That said, I guess if a soul contains so much power that even a tiny tiny bit has a lot of energy then it could still be possible. But eh, I digress.)
The voice???? Hey come back what does that mean (FN: this is at the "I believe in you." "You didn't always. I had to fight for that". Because it maps with what we know about Dulcinea and Palamedes' relationship but it makes their approach to trust more explicit? Palamedes spent a lot of time trying to earn his way into Dulcinea's mind/heart and Dulcinea had a lot of reasons to rebuff him (she literally spells out later that age was a factor but also the fact she wasn't particularly well and the idea of changing that.... well, hope is dangerous))
(FN: Also, knowing the voice is Dulcinea makes me think a lot about "my topic of expertise is putting on a show". Like, huh, she and Cytherea were more alike than I realised. I wonder how much of that is the shared chronic illness and how that impacted their approach to life?)
Courtroom battle time!
Not just courtroom but ace attorney specifically? She is avoiding the question!
"She and I both understand that the goal is always worth the cost". Oh wow, I think Ianthe misreads Harrow so badly here. I'm lowkey amazed at how they lived together for months and yet Ianthe has this perception of her
"I didn't know you smoked" the genre is catchy, can't be helped (FN: rip I missed this clue entirely as being a clue because I was too busy with the meta genre fun)
"she wandered around like she was the protagonist" because she was
These mini duels remind me of the student council segments in Utena. The knife throw one especially
Dulcinea voice? (FN: this was at "oh, you used to say this a lot" because, well, it narrowed things down a lot)
"Harry" pshh, going even more explicit with the drarry roots
Also wow did not call Pal being jealous of Gideon. Genuinely kinda puzzled as to why he was (probably missing something obvious here). Both Palamedes and Ianthe's views on Gideon are kinda eye-opening. I knew Ianthe looked down on Gideon but at the point at which this is set I thought perhaps her opinion would have shifted? Unsure if this is because she sees Kiriona as different or if she's just genuinely doubled down. They're both using past tense during this entire bit though
"I gambled on the truth" this is about the stoma theories? She says she died but that doesn't necessarily mean she was wrong. I am so curious about this. "Awful in the old sense of the word." Full of awe.
I'm just struck as always by the campaldulcie of it all. "I loved real, unfinished things. Gracelessly uncompleted things". Side-eyeing Paul so much rn
"I'm not in the River and I won't ever be again". Just adding this to my long list of questions. Speaking of, how is she even here?
"Was I cute?" "you're perfect" this feels so familiar to me but I can't place it and the closest I'm getting is the ice cream scene in Asteroid City (which timing-wise came out too recently to be it)
Palamedes' final question is such a banger.
(FN: I was trying to do this post blind but I did see a post about my dash about souls as grief and it is so on point. Ianthe's plan for the future has always had Corona in it as another individual by her side and she refuses to contemplate otherwise. Apple experiments for immortality etc etc. Of course, this is the one cost she refuses to pay.)
Ahhhh the genre. Babs is in him?
Babs is in both of them?
Oh icky he's everywhere
Murder mystery deduction time ft. Palamedes as the Inspector
The implications of the souls rubbing off in each other... messy is about right. This kind of thing applies to interactions with people in general to an extent, but the memories and not knowing what is yours and what is someone else's? Shifting preferences? I know this story technically is a side story, but it fits right in with NtN's whole deal about identity and loss of it
Also adds more context to Pal's decision behind Paul if he believed they would always end up like this and he just fast tracked it to ensure they'd live. (You can get this in Nona itself tbf but it's much more implied rather than spelled out?)
"She reaches out and places one hand against its closed lid as the curtain falls". Ianthe refuses to confirm and we as the audience do not get to see. We can take what Pal has told us, what Ianthe doesn't want to think about, but we are denied that complete confirmation.
#the locked tomb#the locked tomb spoilers#the unwanted guest#rip babs there's nothing about you here even though this has a lot to say about u

i feel like a bit of a loser admitting this but
because i'm chronically ill and stuff i don't know what the future holds for me, or for my ability to travel. even if i can afford to travel someday idk if i'd be able to yknow. and that feels far off and hard to reach too.
sometimes though
sometimes when i'm feeling really low and really isolated, and like the world is so far out of reach for me
i go onto google maps in countries and cities i want to explore someday in person but might never get to
and just slowly take myself on a little tour, admiring the street view and the shots of people just living their daily lives
feels a lot neater than just seeing what someone chooses to vlog about, a lot more private, personal, a lot more quiet

I'm half tempted to tell a fan "NEVER!!!" to their question of when my next chapter is coming.
I'd do it because I've already told the people over at AO3 that if they want updates on my work and progress of my work, to follow this blog.
I don't think they're following this blog.
Like srsly, I know that it's been a month since the last chapter. But unless I want the story to go to complete shit and watch all the work I've done just implode because of terrible writing or missing/misplaced scenes (like what happened w Chapter 6 Part 1), I said a million times, I'm not going to rush it.
While this main story is written, there are huge gaps and missing scenes still in my head and notes. I have had to draw a fucking map of the sequence of events so my story can fit in there with the fewest leaps of logic/thought, though I have to weave around the show's leaps of logic too, and for 7 and 8, that's a big thing.
But for those in the back:
Chapters 7 and 8 correlate with Episodes 7 and 8, which I find were rushed and terribly written (I'm not alone in this thinking). The first half of Chapter 7 takes place during the few days between AB Wednesday's breakdown and Mayor Walker's funeral, because funerals like that don't happen overfuckingnight like the show made it seem. There's not going to be much, if any, sex in it...or even direct interaction between Donovan and Wednesday (unless in flashbacks/memories); that will happen in Chaoter 7 Part 2. And I realize it's late in the game, but Chapter 7 as a whole will introduce action with two new characters (one canon, another purely Afterburn). I gotta do what I'm doing if the story's going to continue smoothly into After the Burn.
I won't let any rushing of half-assedness happen to my preciously perverted (😉) fic, its headers, or its extras (including more music and audio work).
And I don't want to pull the Poor Me card, but I have chronic illnesses (four regular hard meds...weed also helps). Sometimes it's hard for me to find the energy to feed myself (I forgot to feed myself the other day 🫣). But the one thing I haven't stopped doing since at least April (though my rough outline of the story goes back to about mid-March/around St. Patrick's Day) is write/create, and it's the first writing I've done since I got bashed. I often fall asleep with my phone in my hand and it scares me because I'm always in my Google Drive and I'm afraid I'll some day accidentally delete shit.
No wonder AO3 authors go nuts. I never had this problem here. I have a whole damn story on another fandom/Tumblr and never felt pressured to crap out the next installment.
Irritated now. Here, have Afterburn Wednesday from my Chapter 3 just for shits:
Obviously I wouldn't just tell them NEVER and not follow up w/a jk...bc I'm not a total asshole. Most of the time.

🛒✨ ⛔🧐 (I know the answer is YES but I'd love some insight) 🧠 (SNUFKIN)😬
from this post
🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics?
Already answered !
✨ Give you and your writing a compliment. Go on now. You know you deserve it. 😉
Already answered !
⛔ Do you have a fic you started, but scrapped?
Already answered ! But I will say there was an idea in “acacia & asphodel” that I wrote, decided to scrap, and then after some conversations with Lance, decided to put back in. It’ll come up in a few chapters, and is something I’m Quite Nervous about posting, but I think is another grounded and realistic progression for the story to take that adds more dimension to it
🧐 Do you spend much time researching for your stories? (I know the answer is YES but I'd love some insight)
DO I? I literally spent like three hours tonight poring over 2018 Illinois legal codes. I have a whole folder dedicated for every one of my fics just for research. I look for All Sorts Of Things. For a&a, I’ve spent a good deal of time learning about immigration and abortion legality and state benefit programs such as EBT (food stamps).
A lot of the disability stuff I write, I don’t have to specifically research; it’s almost entirely personal experience and research done for personal reasons, except in the case of my Infinity Train fics, where I did quite a bit of research on ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, PCD, and Kartegener Syndrome.
For various Moomins stories, I’ve also researched Finnish-Swedish political relations, local fish and plants (and their seasonalities), and herbal medicine (which is an online hellscape as a chronically ill person).
For "Black Cohosh", not only did I research period accurate train routes, but I did so using a Polish-langugae bicycle tournament map. I also studied the proper regional dress in that specific region of Switzerland—big fan of the hats there!—and even the local timber so I could properly describe what would be cheap furniture. It can be a lot sometimes but I really do enjoy it a lot.
I’m very good at Jeopardy fjxkldsa
A big thing I always research for the stories set in real places is the local geography! Google Maps is my best friend there, and I’m Constantly looking up local businesses and travel times. For a&a, I can also rely on my memory, but I’ve never been to Flagstaff, AZ or North Branch, MN, so Google Maps was really invaluable for me. Travel time is one of those things I Always think about when watching or reading something, but is so rarely accounted for, so I take a (perhaps disproportionate) amount of pride in always fitting it in.
I like to start with just a quick google search and some articles, but I very frequently fall down rabbit holes and read academic papers, medical studies, and sometimes whole books. For firsthand experiences, I also like to lurk in social media spaces such as different tumblr tags, or watching youtube videos, and reading old forums and blogs—that’s how you can see a variety of unfiltered Individual experiences.
Every once in a while, though, I get way too far into something that not only doesn’t matter that much but Also doesn’t interest me (hello, US-Finland tax treaties) and have to force myself to Stop.
🧠 Pick a character, and I’ll tell you my favorite headcanon for them
I always have a hard time with favorite, so I’ll just discuss a few I like.
Obviously, Snufkin Cripple King. His disabled vibes are off the charts. And we Know he is trans. That’s not even a headcanon to me; trans snufkin is just Canon in my head and my heart.
Big one for me is casual sex? Stopping in different towns for supplies he can’t get himself (medicines, tobacco, sewing supplies, etc), meeting someone, and spending a little time with them. It’s part adventure, part danger, and part a genuine seeking for human connection. He’s not good at talking to people. He’s not good at opening up. But he also craves connection, and this is a way that has a pretty set social script, is low stakes in his mind (will never see these people again), and doesn’t require him to converse much. He’s not comfortable with vulnerability, but he’s very comfortable with persona. And that’s key. There’s a certain Expectation from others when you’re seen as someone who is sexually available, as a mymble is seen. And anything you do is interpreted through this framework. And it’s very easy, especially for someone like Snufkin—a very reactive, fairly passive character—to go along with this. Is it good sex? Emphatically not. That actually requires communication. You don’t need love for good sex, but you Do need some basic conversation happening. And that conversation is not happening with Snufkin in a tryst. He is just like this the whole time:
[alt text: the tbh creature, cropped just to show the eyes. Image is tinted red, referencing the obama "then perish" meme]
No you haven’t found the clit. No, he’s not going to tell you that. Also no, he’s not going to fake anything. He’s just going to send psychic messages and hope you notice or at least get bored and give up/move on.
😬Which of your fics would you be most horrified for friends, family, or coworkers to stumble upon?
Probably “acacia & asphodel” ! Jfadsl; idk I think making the modern AU (which I put in a setting—time and place—pretty clearly drawing on personal experiences), and also the subject matter, of teen pregnancy, the relations between sex and disability, about uncertain Jewish identity, and also some stuff that I’m going to put in later…. It’s a piece that I’m really proud of, but Also one that I think would just be a Little Too Revealing for people who knew me irl.

I'd argue that some of the reasoning behind those choices is due to demographics. Western European populations are quite a bit older than the US one on average, and get their children later (= bigger generational gap). With aging populations and the new "replacement workforce" less numerous, it's in the interest of Western European states that 1. people are able to work until an old age and 2. they need less specialized care for chronic illnesses and injuries. Hence the big governmental focus on preventive health measures and workplace safety, while also trying to increase the age where you can retire.
(random maps from Google that i scrounged up in 2 minutes, no clue from which year)
People rarely talk about this but the reason why countries have universal healthcare is because the powers that be understand that for society to work people have to work so when we or our family get sick it’s important to get us back to health. Harsh but true. It’s the same reason why European countries try to find a balance between work and paid days off. A stressed out worker who ends up crashing is no good in the long run.
Which is why it makes no sense that the US doesn’t have universal healthcare. I had no idea how overworked you guys are until I started watching videos were American’s abroad are baffled by “how little” they are expected to work. Some like it, some miss the grind, but they’re all like “Wtf? Why am I not even allowed to work extra hours?”
Universal healthcare just seems like the logical cynical choice for a society that expects its people to work so much, ya know?

Finding Your Ideal General Physician: A Comprehensive Guide
Understanding the Role of a General Physician
A general physician, often referred to as a family doctor or internist, is a medical professional who provides primary healthcare. They diagnose and treat a wide range of common illnesses, conduct routine check-ups, and offer preventive care advice.
Why Do You Need a General Physician?
Comprehensive Care: General physicians offer a holistic approach to your health.
Preventive Care: They help prevent diseases through regular check-ups and vaccinations.
Early Detection: They can identify potential health issues early on.
Chronic Disease Management: They assist in managing long-term conditions.
Referrals: They can refer you to specialists when needed.
How to Find a General Physician Near You
Online Directories: Websites like Google Maps, Yellow Pages, and local health directories can help you find physicians in your area.
Insurance Provider: Check with your insurance company for a list of in-network physicians.
Word-of-Mouth: Seek recommendations from friends, family, or colleagues.
Healthcare Facilities: Contact local hospitals or clinics to inquire about general physicians.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a General Physician
Location: Choose a physician who is conveniently located for you.
Insurance Acceptance: Ensure the physician accepts your insurance plan.
Experience: Consider the physician's years of experience and qualifications.
Bedside Manner: Look for a doctor who is patient, empathetic, and easy to talk to.
Availability: Check the physician's office hours and appointment availability.
Building a Strong Doctor-Patient Relationship
A good relationship with your general physician is essential for optimal healthcare. Here's how to build one:
Be Honest: Share your medical history and symptoms openly.
Ask Questions: Don't hesitate to ask questions about your health.
Follow Treatment Plans: Adhere to your doctor's recommendations.
Regular Check-ups: Schedule regular check-ups to monitor your health.
Communicate Effectively: Maintain open and honest communication.
What to Expect at a General Physician Visit
A typical visit to a general physician may include:
Medical History Review: Discussing your past and current health conditions.
Physical Examination: Checking vital signs, performing tests, and conducting a general physical.
Symptom Assessment: Evaluating your symptoms and determining potential causes.
Diagnosis: Identifying the underlying health issue.
Treatment Plan: Developing a treatment plan, including medication, lifestyle changes, or referrals.
Preventive Care with Your General Physician
Preventive care is crucial for maintaining good health. Your general physician can help you:
Vaccinations: Stay up-to-date on recommended vaccinations.
Screenings: Undergo regular screenings for common diseases like cancer and diabetes.
Lifestyle Counseling: Receive advice on diet, exercise, and stress management.
Health Education: Learn about health conditions and prevention strategies.
When to See a General Physician
While it's essential to establish a relationship with a general physician for regular check-ups, you should also seek immediate medical attention for:
Severe pain
Difficulty breathing
Sudden dizziness or fainting
Severe allergic reactions
High fever
Persistent vomiting or diarrhea
Remember: This information is intended as general guidance and does not replace professional medical advice. Always consult with a qualified healthcare provider for any health concerns.
