Having to micromanage your entire physical battery day in and day out is so exhausting, especially when your ability fluctuates without rhyme or reason with every single day. I'm starting to have to reframe how I view and tackle my task lists because otherwise the grief and frustration becomes so much that I get nothing done. I'd love to complete the entire list today, but I'm gonna have to limit myself to ticking off two tasks just so I don't burn myself out to the point of being unable to do anything later...
#and even then thats no guarantee since i could feel super sick later without warning#OR maybe i feel superdupergood and can do them all no problem and THEN some#but then i also have to prepare for being bedridden after if i dont keep track of how much energy i burn#the event horizon of which ALSO changes daily lmfao#meanwhile people assume youre lucky or even privileged for this#as if being homebound for your safetys sake and spending most of the time being unable to really do anything#is anything worth envying. people assume youre resting when frankly youre just keeping your face above the water#i dont have a choice either. i gave up all my dreams and ambitions just for the sake of trying to survive for once#i WANT to have a life i WANT to have the power to be independent and not be at the mercy of others until the day i die#god sorry URGH its so hard to not feel sad and hopeless and almost bitter about this sometimes#its so hard not to feel alienated and embarrassed by the fact that you practically live in a different reality to people#people whose lives revolve around careers and working to the point where they cant comprehend you as a disabled individual#and what that means beyond the assumption that being chronically ill and overall impaired is a choice and moral failire#whether or not people are aware of that baseline assumption concretely#and i feel stupid and annoying for whining about this when i have so much to be grateful for#just. guhhhhhhhhh idfk. i SHOULD get started here but i can barely move out of bed#exhaustion is killing me i miss going on daily walks my house feels like a prison#i need to stop moping im already spiralling lmfao#trying not to close my eyes lest i pass out yet again despite having gotten more than 12 hours of sleep#cause apparently to my stupid body thats not enough to even stand up#silvi talks

Is it okay for people with agoraphobia to look and take some of the advice you have for housebound people on here? I'm not really great at picking up nuance so I'm worried that it'd be crossing some boundary or that it's not the intention of the tag
that’s completely okay, i appreciate your desire to be respectful even though i’m sorry you were concerned! i absolutely consider folks with agoraphobia my comrades + community members and i’d be super honored if anything i’ve shared is helpful (+ am always interested in hearing what that was if you’re comfortable!) the rest of this is not anything you need to answer your question, just thoughts i’ve been having on the subject
i haven’t had the opportunity to talk to enough homebound [due to chronic illness / “physical” reasons] people to know if this is a common experience but for me i’ve noticed that similar to chronic illness often carrying depression with it, since becoming homebound i’ve become terrified of leaving the house.
this is definitely influenced by the fact that it’s untenably painful, my photosensitivity (in the UV sense not the epilepsy sense), the ongoing pandemic, the fact that i only left the house to go to the doctor for over a year & i’m afraid of the doctors appointment itself due to medical trauma, etc etc but like. there’s also the very strong pull of habit – i’m an incredibly obsessive & ritualistic person – and what Goffman refers to as “the relief of self-isolation” for marginalized people sheltering from a hostile society, a phrase i read in undergrad 5 1/2 years ago that’s stuck with me ever since for how profoundly it resonates.
i’m not trying to say these are necessarily your or any other person with agoraphobia’s feelings & experiences, more to illustrate how the liberation of all homebound people & shut-ins & hermits is bound up together; any sanist strategy for oppressing agoraphobes can easily be leveraged against me, not least because as a severely underdiagnosed person, the medical establishment does not think there is any “legitimate” “physical” reason for me to be homebound. to respond to this oppression by arguing it’s inapplicable because i’m not crazy would be untrue + a cruel act of lateral violence.
i’ve been reading a lot of butch/femme history recently (i post about that on my main @campgender; followers age 18+ only please) & have found myself entirely reconfiguring my understanding of the queer art of isolation, the incredible ability of our ancestors to hunker down & survive under circumstances unimaginable to the average person. i absolutely don’t want to deny the deep pain – not only the aspects i experience but also the heightened isolation of people without or before internet access + the ways these circumstances / forms of oppression can foster abuse –
but my god, so many 50s butches didn’t leave their homes during daylight hours for years in order to not be hate crimed for their gender presentation, & that’s the folks who were making it to the bars. so many others – “discreet” couples who didn’t want to risk being outed by engaging in queer community; people assigned female who “passed” as men & their partners; butch sex workers & other people with identities perceived as contradictory or unacceptable – existed marginalized by both queer & normative communities.
every time i think substantially about homeboundedness i always get tracy chapman’s “subcity” stuck in my head. obviously my access to housing period is a huge position of privilege, & i’m in the most economically secure position of my adult life so far; the abjection i experience is nowhere near the scale of people in the position of the speaker of the song, who’s implied to be street homeless. but the line “people say it doesn’t exist ‘cause no one would like to admit that there is a city underground” is such a succinct & accurate depiction of living the kind of life society tries to convince itself is impossible. but there truly is a rich genealogy of homeboundedness especially in queer history.
again i hope some of my posts & such are helpful / resonant! wishing you all the best 💓💓

A belated Hiatus Post
I have been rather inactive for the past 3 months & received a lot of notifs about it. I won't be able to answer all of them, sorry for that. Here's my attempt to try & lay open a little why I've been gone and what the coming months will bring. I have pondered long how to write this in the least hurtful way, while also expressing my own emotions & experiences.
Those of you, who have followed my journey on pretty much any other page, probably know that I'm chronically ill with autoimmune disease, homebound since over a decade, that I got cardiovascular damage as a side effect & that since 2021/22 my condition severely worsened & often leaves me mostly bedridden for weeks at a time. I shared about the numerous surgeries & medical treatments I had in the past year, how I've slowly lost the ability to digest food before & require parenteral nutrition via an IV port since September '23. As well as how I tested positive for GI cancer in March. I've been waiting for an appointment to remove growths, cauterize multiple ulcers & take tissue samples to test for malignant cells since & been gone for a 6 week long hospital stay with a number of surgeries after September 16th & was taking time to recover from that since.
My mental health has gone really bad in the past year as well, for a number of other reasons but also this. I've experienced the biggest cptsd relapse I've had in the past 20 years in the past 14 months. I went from stable & happy, despite my illness and a low-contact situation with family, after almost 2 decades of therapy & inner child healing to escape and recover from an abusive childhood home; keeping my cortisol low and my nervous system calm to prevent further autoimmune flares & to be able to cope with my fatigue enough to do my work and happily make art and write... ...to the point where since about a year I'm in the middle of a full blown relapse of complex PTSD, severe depression and anxiety that has little to do with my offline life. Despite numerous attempts to resolve or remove myself from the underlying situation in order to preserve my well-being and safety, requesting acute intense psychiatric care during hospital stays more than 8 times, as well as consulting regular therapy sessions in social psychiatric help centres since January and ultimately return to therapy since June, I've only started to experience relief more recently.
🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐
And this is where the good news start!
🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐
In the past 2 months, I have finally been able to take care of myself, my work, household and hobbies & properly rest again, without constant exposure to anxiety inducing situations. And while the time in which I had surgery was still horrendous for a number of situations related to this, I have at least started chemotherapy now, without having to constantly fear that something terrible will happen again when I'm most vulnerable right before, during or right after my treatments or other crisis in my private life. So far the treatment is effective, even though I have all the unpleasant side effects that come with it. Overall my life is much calmer now and I don't live in constant anxiety anymore, which is a huge win for me. Moving forward, I want to return to doing things that are good for me & were originally intended for this blog, now that I can finally rest, heal, take care of my health and actually thrive & be productive at my own pace in peace.
So despite the fact that I won't be super active, here are my plans for the future:
Make more original art and art dedicated to my own passions and projects again and actually post them. I had started a series on learning to do folkloric art as well as a series on intrudcing MBTI personalities, glimpses into their lives, lots of research, writing small articles and doing my own art for this, in 2022.
Return to my passion projects from 2022/2023 (all NSFW): - My 9-pieced fanfiction series "Lestat's Lovers" and Art for it - My 8-pieced fanfic series "Things I didn't tell Thetis" - My 4-pieced series "To love a thing Death can touch" I have wanted to continue writing for a long time. The plot for the first one has been with me for 17 years & is deeply intertwined with my internal universe. I've always hungered to write & share it with the world with the art I used to make for it, but never finished or even started. It was devastating to be unable to do that for so long.
Post about my journey as a native practitioner of Bohémien Romani Culture, Slavo-Celtic Shaman-/Druidism and Kabbalistic Judaism, as well as the taught believes of Hellenism, Christianity and Christian Satanism in the past 20+ years, present and future.
Translate & publish the vast knowledge I've assembled about herbs & other natural substances, their uses in historic and folk medicine, magic, alchemy, spirituality, etc, their historic significance and much more. It's been a big interest since my childhood, I was taken on hikes to collect herbs & materials for homemade remedies and other things and taught how to make them from scratch, since I could be taken out in a baby sling.
Make blog posts about my culture, including its folklore, mythology, rites, magic etc. and post them here. (I borrowed books about this from the library, so I can give reading recommendations and cite interesting sources! :D)
Create a side blog about my music recommendations, as I'm very passionate about a lot of genres and want to keep things more sorted. <3
Stop being scared to make posts for my mental health & healing journey again, even if they might still get misinterpreted. I can't take the responsibility to manage others' perception & emotions or literally anything else they should work out themselves.

Hi, my friend has a chronic illness that flares up sometimes and we've been wanting to hang out but it has gotten cancelled a couple times lately bc of her not feeling well enough on the day. I want to ask her how she feels cuz I care abt her a lot and want an update but 1, I don't want her to feel pressured or like I'm asking just to ask can we hang out now, and not bc I care abt how she's feeling (does that make sense? I may be overthinking this) and 2, I genuinely wanna know how she's doing but idk what to say if she responds with her not being better, sometimes u don't feel better and that's ok but I always want to offer comfort somehow or just convey my friendship? but I feel the same everytime and don't want to sound repetitive ?
Any thoughts?
this is really kind of you & it means so much to me that you want to support your friend & are putting so much thought into it! my response is inherently based in my own experience to an extent & everybody’s different, but a lot if not all of this is stuff i’ve heard regularly from other chronically ill people. of course, don’t say anything you don’t mean – if some of this isn’t the case for you, just adapt accordingly :)
i understand worrying about being repetitive but i think that’s totally okay to do! for one thing, it can be difficult to remember things period when you’re ill, especially during a flare, & for another, internalized + societal ableism is a hell of a force. it never hurts to have a reminder that not everyone is trying to force ableist expectations onto you + your friendship & that someone cares about you!
i think you can definitely tell your friend pretty much what you told me! like, “hey, it’s okay if you aren’t feeling up for responding but i just wanted to check on you! not trying to pressure you to hang out or anything, i just care about you & how you’re doing”
honestly the most important + supportive thing people have ever told me is that it’s okay if the answer is “bad.” i’m literally like surprised pikachu meme every time somebody offers to let me vent about having a rough time & then it helps me just to talk about it. it’s really socially unacceptable to talk about chronic pain & a lot of people get frustrated when you’re complaining about the same thing & there’s not really anything they can do, so just the opportunity to be like “yeah shit fucking sucks right now” means a lot.
obv the appropriateness of this depends on the person & their relationship to disability but most of the time i’m very like, radical acceptance / embracing / etc about the fact that i’m probably just gonna get sicker, so sometimes when i’m having a rough time emotionally & am like “what if i’m this bad for the rest of my life” my gf (who doesn’t have chronic pain / chronic illness) will say something like “then i can’t wait to be there with you ❤️” & it’s more meaningful to me than i can begin to put into words.
again everybody’s different but for me one of the biggest things is when disability stuff just… isn’t a big deal to the other person. which, it’s totally okay for you to need support from others when someone you care about is going through a hard time & when things change! but abled people are constantly horrified about like, every aspect of my life, so being able to talk casually about symptoms & somebody mirror the mood / tone i set – laugh if i’m joking, be upset about the ableism i experience & not my body itself if i’m complaining about people being weird about it, taking things as they come – is so affirming.
other things that have been helpful + meaningful for me are friends sending me notes, stickers, & art in the mail – having something tangible can make me feel more “real” & part of the world, something i struggle with due to being homebound – & peer support around medical neglect, which often just looks like talking to someone after a doctor’s appointment & them reaffirming my reality / experiences & saying i didn’t deserve to be treated that way.
oh one other change in language i’ve made over time & probably picked up from a few other ill people in my life is a sort of realistic encouragement – there’s not necessarily anything wrong with “i hope you feel better soon!” because like, i get that the message is well-intentioned, but it can be awkward & difficult to receive when you don’t know if that’s gonna happen. instead, i try to tell people something like “i hope you get a bit of relief soon” or “i hope things are a little easier tomorrow.” a 7/10 pain day may be horrifying for most people, but when you’ve had a streak of 9s, it can be a much-needed taking the edge off, & i try to make space for that breadth of experience in my language.
i’ve answered a few similar questions before so i’ll add my “asks” & “faq” tags on my chronic illness blog in the reblogs if you want to browse! much love to you & your friend and feel free to lmk if you have any other questions 💓💓

Just put a deposit down on this gorgeous boy. I am obsessed with his gorgeous pattern. He's a Pastel Enchi Clown Ball Python. I wasn't even looking to add a new ball python to my collection yet, but I was browsing other local breeders, and saw this gorgeous guy from a local breeder, and omg, I couldn't resist. A cool-looking yellow and black snake has been on my wishlist for awhile (very generic; I love BPs, but don't breed or get into specific morphs, I just look for what I love.)
Currently I have a Banana Pied baby who I just love, and in the past I've had a few different rescues who were a mixed bag. I now prefer to get well-started babies and socialize them myself, after some nightmare rescue scenarios. I think my first snake ever was a bp, but it was so long ago, I can't really remember.
This guy will be named Herky, after the University of Iowa mascot, since their colors are also black and gold (clearly a theme for me, if you've seen my corn snake project).
Part of what I love about reptiles as pets is that they vastly prefer to stay at home in their enclosures, as opposed to dogs who need to go outside and love adventures and outside enrichment. I love my dog so much, and I've always been a "dog person" but the more my chronic illnesses and disability impact my life, the more homebound I become, and the more I want things in my home to be enriching for me. I could spend all day with my reptiles and be perfectly happy.
A big project I have for the summer (when I'm on break from my day job of teaching) is redoing my reptile room to make it more functional for me the human caretaker, more functional, and more comfortable.
This dude will be a great edition, and I'm looking forward to meeting the breeder and seeing his setup when I pick him up in the next few weeks.

I know chronically ill!Shen Yuan is just fanon (initially inspired by an overly literal interpretation of an expression, plus the fact that food poisoning is not usually lethal), but you can pry it from my cold, dead, chronically ill hands.
On the rare occasion that someone like me (in that regard) appears in fiction, it's never a story about them. They're a side character at most, someone's tragic loved one, possibly their motivation. Rarely do they even get a personality beyond "blandly lovable," let alone anything resembling depth or agency.
The most a severely chronically ill character can aspire to is "plot device."
By contrast, Shen Yuan is already The Most Character Of All Time. He is neither meek nor inoffensive and has a rich inner life, and adding chronic illness doesn't change that. He is the main character and the story, both in canon and the fics that take this approach, revolves around him. His decisions shape the narrative.
Shen Yuan gets to be a person. Chronically ill!Shen Yuan gets to be a person that has struggles like mine. The acknowledgement of his humanity is the the acknowledgement of mine. The authors and presumably the audience know that people like me exist and are human. That shouldn't be remarkable. It shouldnt make me cry, but here we are.
(I once saw another chronically ill person claim that it was condescending to write him as "a shut-in" due to illness, because chronically ill people also have a life, or something. Like... buddy. Friend. Pal. Homebound people exist. Homebound SY makes me feel seen like literally no other character ever has. It is actually worse than condescending to claim that depicting a homebound person is offensive. Can you fucking not.)

Man.
I had therapy today, so I'm feeling a lot better about a lot of shit going on in my life atm, but I am so over life deciding to punch me over and over again.
Between my work having inconsistent power, my computer dying and my chronic illness flaring... fuck, I need a break.
It's not enough to keep me homebound or affect anything beyond just being bog-standardly tired... but it's a pain in the ass.
Am I coping better? Absolutely. Thank god for meds and being in a far better headspace as I have gotten older, but I'd also just like life to be kind to me for two seconds.

Someone shared publicly on my Facebook page in reply to an earlier post of mine about lying outside that this was their setup (in their last home) to allow them get outside which certainly looks like a nice setup: ---
Yep, I get it. I used to lie outside every day bundled up like that, I even had a great, radiant heater. An electric throw would have been good. I was fortunate that eventually I had a place where I had enough room for a $500plexiglass greenhouse. A friend built a platform for it, put a carpet on the platform, so it was a little 7x9 room. It was great to have a bubble like that. I put a heater in it and listened to books and music while looking out at the trees and feeling part of nature.
Best wishes to you. May we all find healing.
Actually it was only 6 x 8. Tiny, but it didn’t feel that way, since it’s completely clear! But this was sitting on concrete, so it would take a bit more doing to make a strong enough platform to resist the elements.
I was fortunate that I had a friend who was able to build a platform to sit the greenhouse on which made a huge difference.
Good luck! I spent most hours of the day for about 10 years out there. It was really great not to be lying down inside all the time. I didn’t feel housebound. It made me wonder why more people weren’t into greenhouses. There’s no room for a one where I am, but there’s a pretty secluded patio, and I live in AZ, so there are a lot of warm ( and hot ) days.

So I’ve been gone a while because of moving situations. Last time I was here was the pee paw polls tournament finally ending. (Which btw the comic made me bawl like a big baby, I loved it).
Now I come back and there’s a rabbit war going on? Everyone here are just bullying Usagi?? Idk what’s going on so I’m gonna instead ask something completely out of nowhere just for the sake of having something new/different for you to talk about. (And because I have no idea how to handle the Usagi situation here lol)
So Ame, would you hike to a mountain top to watch the sunrise or drive out of town to stargaze? :)
I would if I could! I'm disabled and chronically ill, and because of covid basically homebound. Driving out of town and hiking aren't easy things for me to do.
I'd love to go somewhere where I could see the stars, though. I've lived in cities my whole life so I've never really seen anything other than a few pinpricks.

it was kinda wild to me earlier in the pandemic how many people were like “yall should have no problem staying inside 24/7 not being able to work or see your friends or leave the house because theres tons of disabled and chronically people who go through life like that” like. im pretty sure it actually isnt ideal or easy or painless for the disabled and chronically ill people to live like that either..... even if its a medical necessity that isnt like. no big deal, mentally, to be homebound and banned from socializing

All of this, This whole thread, is so important to me as a autistic person. I don’t have the energy right now to explain my life’s story but I’m very withdrawn and have hard times connecting to people especially in the generic neurotypical way.
Autism is like having a different language and it takes work and care from other people to actually be on my level and feel seen. I’ve never had that even with other neurodivergent people.
Also being chronically ill and homebound friendship is impossible for me without someone else caring enough to put in more of the work. I hate that I can’t. I hate that people have to accommodate me if they want me around or reach out and do most of the talking because I have no energy, be willing to wait a few days until I have the energy to respond.
I know it wouldn’t be a very balanced friendship but I do still selfishly wish someone would care enough about me to do things like this so I could be able to be in their life. I don’t have any friends right now. Even when I was younger being seen has always been a deep desire, to have the hole of human connection in my heart filled.
These stories give me hope that people like that do exist.
This thread hits home so hard I wish I could make my family and other people understand that I’m feeling this way and I wish I could have a person who does reach out.
consider: teenagers aren’t apathetic about everything they’re just used to you shitting all over whatever they show excitement about

Get Top Quality 24-Hour Nursing Care At Home
Tumblr media
The need for professional healthcare services at home is growing rapidly in today's fast-paced world. More patients these days prefer to receive care in the comfort of their own homes rather than going to hospitals. This is where the 24-hour nursing care services come into play.
Whether it’s for elderly loved ones, someone recovering from surgery or a patient with long-term illness, 24-hour nursing care services offer the highest level of care and peace of mind. In this article, we’re going to explore the top-level 24 hour nursing care service at home. So, keep reading this article till the end to get the best service.
What Is 24 Hour Nursing Care?
24 hour nursing care ensures a professional nurse is available around the clock in a home setting. Unlike regular visits, this service provides continuous care day and night, meeting immediate needs like medication administration, vital sign monitoring, and daily activities.
It's crucial for patients needing constant monitoring or unable to care for themselves, ideal for those with complex medical conditions or recovering from major surgery.
Benefits Of 24-Hour Nursing Care For Homebound Patients
24-hour nursing care can offer numerous benefits, especially for patients who are homebound & unable to visit the hospital regularly. Here, I have pointed out some key advantages-
Continuous Monitoring
One of the biggest benefits of 24-hour nursing service is continuous monitoring of the patient’s condition. Minor changes in a patient’s health status can be immediately addressed which is essential for patients with unstable conditions. This reduces the risks of complications.
Personalized Care
Since the nurse is always present therefore the care provided is highly personalized. The nurse can focus on the specific needs of the patients which is not possible in the hospital area because there one nurse is responsible for multiple patients.
Comfort Of Home
Being cared for at home allows patients to stay in a familiar and comfortable environment. This can improve the quality of a patient’s life, especially for elderly patients who may feel more secure & happy in a home environment rather than a hospital environment.
Support For Families
The 24-hour nursing service also provides relief and support for family members who may be overwhelmed with the responsibility of caring for a loved one. They will become stress-free by knowing that a professional is available 24/7 for caring.
Reduced Hospital Visits
With 24-hour care, many medical conditions can be treated & managed at home. It will reduce the need for frequent hospital visits. This will be convenient for patients.
Choosing The Right 24-Hour Nursing Care Service Provider
Choosing the right provider for 24-hour nursing care is crucial to ensuring that the patient receives the best possible care. Here I mentioned some key factors that you need to consider:
Reputation & Experience
Always look for a provider with a strong reputation and experience in offering 24 hour nursing care service. Check their background, reviews, and other client’s opinions to get an idea of their quality of service.
Qualified & Certified Nurse
Make sure that the nurses employed by the provider are qualified and certified and also have the necessary experience to handle the patient’s needs. It is essential that the nurses are well-trained and capable of providing both basic & complex care.
Range Of Services
Different patients have different needs, such as some specialized care, some require post-surgical care and some others may require chronic conditions care. Just make sure the provider offers a range of services that can be tailored to the specific needs of specific patients.
Availability & Flexibility
Make sure that the provider should be able to guarantee that the nurses will be available for 24-hour service. Additionally, they should offer flexible care plans that can be adjusted according to patients' needs.
Communication
Effective communication between the provider, nurse, patient, and patient’s family is very essential. Choose a provider who is available to communicate any time you want.
Cost Transparency
Make sure the provider is transparent about the 24-hour nursing care service. They should provide a clear breakdown of the fees and whether there are any hidden charges required or not.
Licensing
Always verify that the service provider is properly licensed by the relevant health authorities. This will ensure that your loved ones get the top quality nursing service & top quality treatment.
