Get Top Quality 24-Hour Nursing Care At Home
The need for professional healthcare services at home is growing rapidly in today's fast-paced world. More patients these days prefer to receive care in the comfort of their own homes rather than going to hospitals. This is where the 24-hour nursing care services come into play.
Whether it’s for elderly loved ones, someone recovering from surgery or a patient with long-term illness, 24-hour nursing care services offer the highest level of care and peace of mind. In this article, we’re going to explore the top-level 24 hour nursing care service at home. So, keep reading this article till the end to get the best service.
What Is 24 Hour Nursing Care?
24 hour nursing care ensures a professional nurse is available around the clock in a home setting. Unlike regular visits, this service provides continuous care day and night, meeting immediate needs like medication administration, vital sign monitoring, and daily activities.
It's crucial for patients needing constant monitoring or unable to care for themselves, ideal for those with complex medical conditions or recovering from major surgery.
Benefits Of 24-Hour Nursing Care For Homebound Patients
24-hour nursing care can offer numerous benefits, especially for patients who are homebound & unable to visit the hospital regularly. Here, I have pointed out some key advantages-
Continuous Monitoring
One of the biggest benefits of 24-hour nursing service is continuous monitoring of the patient’s condition. Minor changes in a patient’s health status can be immediately addressed which is essential for patients with unstable conditions. This reduces the risks of complications.
Personalized Care
Since the nurse is always present therefore the care provided is highly personalized. The nurse can focus on the specific needs of the patients which is not possible in the hospital area because there one nurse is responsible for multiple patients.
Comfort Of Home
Being cared for at home allows patients to stay in a familiar and comfortable environment. This can improve the quality of a patient’s life, especially for elderly patients who may feel more secure & happy in a home environment rather than a hospital environment.
Support For Families
The 24-hour nursing service also provides relief and support for family members who may be overwhelmed with the responsibility of caring for a loved one. They will become stress-free by knowing that a professional is available 24/7 for caring.
Reduced Hospital Visits
With 24-hour care, many medical conditions can be treated & managed at home. It will reduce the need for frequent hospital visits. This will be convenient for patients.
Choosing The Right 24-Hour Nursing Care Service Provider
Choosing the right provider for 24-hour nursing care is crucial to ensuring that the patient receives the best possible care. Here I mentioned some key factors that you need to consider:
Reputation & Experience
Always look for a provider with a strong reputation and experience in offering 24 hour nursing care service. Check their background, reviews, and other client’s opinions to get an idea of their quality of service.
Qualified & Certified Nurse
Make sure that the nurses employed by the provider are qualified and certified and also have the necessary experience to handle the patient’s needs. It is essential that the nurses are well-trained and capable of providing both basic & complex care.
Range Of Services
Different patients have different needs, such as some specialized care, some require post-surgical care and some others may require chronic conditions care. Just make sure the provider offers a range of services that can be tailored to the specific needs of specific patients.
Availability & Flexibility
Make sure that the provider should be able to guarantee that the nurses will be available for 24-hour service. Additionally, they should offer flexible care plans that can be adjusted according to patients' needs.
Communication
Effective communication between the provider, nurse, patient, and patient’s family is very essential. Choose a provider who is available to communicate any time you want.
Cost Transparency
Make sure the provider is transparent about the 24-hour nursing care service. They should provide a clear breakdown of the fees and whether there are any hidden charges required or not.
Licensing
Always verify that the service provider is properly licensed by the relevant health authorities. This will ensure that your loved ones get the top quality nursing service & top quality treatment.

Headcanons for the Shaw Pack’s Holiday Volunteer Work
Started by Gabe and preserved by David, the Shaw Pack has a tradition of incorporating extra volunteer work into their schedules as the season of many holidays approaches. It’s not mandatory or something they officially report, but the pack takes their responsibility to continue the tradition seriously.
David: Food Drive Organizer- David organizes a massive food drive that benefits Dahlia’s food pantry. Not only will he organize and promote it all himself (although according to the paperwork, he does so anonymously), but David also gives a huge amount of non-perishable food. Once everything is collected and ready to be distributed, David always ensures to set up distribution so that it is equitable and welcoming for everyone who uses the food pantry.
Angel: Writes Cards for Nursing Home Residents- Beginning as early as September, Angel writes hundreds of cards for nursing home residents who may or may not receive any visitors. They take special care to write different messages on each card, sometimes including little jokes or drawings.
Asher: Arranges a 5K Race/24hrs Caroling Event to Benefit Humanborn Acclimation Services and Programs- Asher’s annual “Holiday 5K/Caroling Extravaganza” has become quite a popular event among the empowered population of Dahlia, even if it is a bit eclectic. Racers in the 5K acquire sponsorships to participate. Groups of carolers do the same and provide some sort of musical entertainment (broadly defined to include all ages, talents, and interpretations) for 24 consecutive hours. All of the proceeds of the event benefit programs that help humanborn empowered people acclimate to their magic, which, as the son of two humanborn wolves, is a cause near and dear to Asher’s heart. The event is always a fun and festive success, with local businesses donating the prizes and restaurants providing food for everyone.
Babe: Gift Wrapper to Benefit a Homeless Shelter- Babe spends a couple weeknights per week at a department store as a gift wrapper. All of the donations go directly to a local homeless shelter. Babe wraps each gift so carefully and precisely that the clients feel compelled to double the donation they were originally planning to give.
Milo: Plays Santa at the Local Library- He schedules weekend visits at the public library and arranges for a photographer to accompany him so that even families who cannot afford a portrait of their child(ren) with Santa have the opportunity to get one at no cost (plus a candy cane!) Milo works hard all year to perfect his “Ho-Ho-Hos!” and listens to every child as they speak with him. If a child does not want to sit on his lap or has sensory difficulties, Milo is always accommodating and makes sure that the visit is friendly and fun.
Sweetheart: Blood Donor- Sweetheart always makes sure to donate blood to ensure that the vampiric community will have sufficient blood bag resources to sustain them during a time of year where Clans often celebrate together and are in need of extra blood. They are proud to help support the vampire community any time of the year, but especially when many are missing their former lives and traditions.
Darling: Shifts to Serve as a Therapy Dog at a Pediatric Hospital- In their wolf form, Darling visits unempowered children who are currently hospitalized and are in need of some holiday cheer since they are fighting to get better and cannot yet return home. Unlike the parents, guardians, and other adult visitors, the children are never afraid of Darling as a wolf. They cheer and clap when they see Darling stroll through the door and jump on their beds. The children eagerly pet them and talk about whatever they want. To be able to do this, Darling proudly forged a “Therapy Dog Certification” document for themselves.
Sam: Secretly Shovels and Salts Sidewalks- Sam will often take his trusty shovel and bag of salt to neighborhoods of Dahlia that seem to be last on the list for shoveling and salting. He works under cover of night, able to make good use of his vampiric strength and speed to clear walkways and keep everyone safe from falling on icy paths.

3 minute read
Right now it feels like every public service employee is having to resort to strike action to gain acceptable standards of employment. Who’s next? If we’re talking about labour that is woefully undervalued and unsupported, it should be mums.
Statutory maternity pay, at £156.66 per week, is less than half of minimum wage (£384 for a standard 40-hour week). New mothers (and their child) have to survive on 41 per cent of the minimum we consider acceptable to live on. 30 hours per week of subsidised childcare is available for three-year-olds, but maternity pay ends at 39-weeks-old. During that two-year gap, nursery fees cost 65 per cent of the average parent’s wages, and many mothers are falling into debt, or dropping out of the workforce, as a result.
Moreover, 54,000 women lose their jobs in the UK every year because of maternity discrimination. Maternity is a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010, but only for the first 26 weeks. Any claim for maternity discrimination must be brought within three months – almost impossible in the midst of the physical and mental upheavals of matrescence. During which time, 31 per cent of mothers didn’t have confidence in their postnatal care. And, according to the Office of National Statistics, in heterosexual couples women still perform 77 per cent more childcare and 62 per cent of the domestic work.
Surely that’s reason to strike!
There is precedent. In Iceland in 1975, women refused to go to work, cook, clean or perform childcare, during what was termed “the long Friday”. Many schools and nurseries had to close, forcing fathers to bring their children to work. Banks, factories and shops simply couldn’t function. Even the next day’s newspapers were shorter than usual.
Ninety per cent of women in Iceland took part and the next year Iceland’s parliament passed a law guaranteeing equal rights to women and men. Five years later, Vigdis Finnbogadottir became Iceland’s president – the world’s first democratically elected female head of state. She insists this couldn’t have happened without the strike, which paralysed the country and demonstrated women’s importance to society. She served for 16 years, and, having introduced initiatives such as all-women shortlists and paid paternity leave ahead of the curve, Iceland became known as the world’s most feminist country.
Collective action amongst mothers is happening here. Women’s Strike asked women to refuse all work on International Women’s Day 2022. Then, just six weeks ago, charity Pregnant Then Screwed led 15,000 parents onto the streets across the UK in March of the Mummies. Founder Joeli Brearley told me, “There is such power in protesting. We were under no illusion that the Government would immediately fix the issues, but it is a signal that unless they act soon they will lose votes at the ballot box. Make no mistake – Westminster heard us that day.”
So, what do we want? I propose: maternity pay brought in line with minimum wage; childcare free for parents (and properly paid for by the Government) from birth until starting school; parenthood made a protected characteristic for life; and parents given 12 months to bring discrimination claims. When you consider that more mothers in work could be worth £28.2 billion to the UK economy, this is just sensible. The birth rate has now dropped below the level needed for a stable population, fuelling fears of economic decline. We need investment in motherhood.
As Iceland showed, when women stop, everything stops. In the UK, women are the vast majority of childcare workers, administrative staff, care workers, cleaners, hospitality staff, HR professionals, teachers and nurses. If they refused to work for just 24 hours, the impact for society and the economy would be crippling. Then there’s women’s domestic work, which is estimated to be worth 56 per cent of GDP. Strike once – that includes paid employment as well as cleaning, childcare, cooking, organising and so on – and it’s unlikely we would need to again.
What made Iceland’s strike so successful was so many women took part. But mobilising primary care givers is a nightmare, given the burden of domestic responsibility. We’re missing the cornerstone of effective industrial action – a union. Unions provide support, mobilise large disparate groups, and lobby for members’ rights. We need a union for parents. There are amazing campaigning charities, but unions are protected by legislation, forcing employers (or governments) to negotiate, and keeping workers’ jobs safe if they strike. Unions have teeth.
When do we want it? According to research from YouGov more than half of women say they do the majority of Christmas tasks, 51 per cent of women feel stressed at Christmas and according to Action for Children one in six parents said they would cancel the whole thing if they could. Ancient Anglo-Saxons celebrated Modranicht (“mother’s night”) on 24 December. What if mothers honoured themselves this Christmas Eve by doing absolutely nothing?
No last minute shopping. No festive food preparation. No present wrapping. No stuffing of stockings. No ringing round to coordinate family members or clarifying dietary requirements. Just putting our feet up with a mulled wine and watching It’s a Wonderful Life while someone else takes responsibility for the over-excited, sugar-hyped children. We baulk at the idea, because Christmas would fall apart. But isn’t that exactly the reason to do it? To show how much motherhood matters.

It’s not easy to swim 175 km (109 mi.) when you’re starving to death. It’s not easy either to try to survive when you’re shedding body weight at a rate of 1 kg (2.2 lbs.) a day.
And it might be hardest — or at least most tragic — of all if you’re a nursing mom and your calorie intake has dropped so low that you can no longer produce the milk you need to care for your young.
As a new paper in Nature Communications reveals, all of those challenges and more are facing the world’s polar bears, thanks to vanishing sea ice in our warming world, denying the animals a platform that they need to hunt for seals.
If the trend isn’t reversed soon, the estimated 26,000 polar bears in the wild could start to lose their hold on survival before the middle of this century.
The researchers were less interested in establishing the fact of the bears’ food plight; scientists are already aware of that problem.
What they were more focused on learning was both how gravely the nutritional loss is affecting the animals’ health and the alternative food sources they’re scrounging for on land.
To do their work, the scientists followed 20 different polar bears in Manitoba, Canada, from 2019 to 2022, fitting them with GPS trackers and video collars and periodically tranquilizing them and analyzing their blood, body mass, daily energy expenditure — basically a measure of calories coming in versus calories going out — and more.
“The polar bears in Hudson Bay [Canada] are probably at the edge of the range at which they can survive right now,” says Anthony Pagano, a research biologist with the U.S. Geological Survey and the lead author of the paper.
“Most of the modeling work suggests that around 2050, they are going to be on land and away from their primary habitat [on the ice].”
The contraction in range of the Hudson Bay community is likely to be reflected in the ranges of the 18 other polar bear subpopulations scattered throughout the Arctic as well.
Across the arc of the study, the data Pagano and his colleagues gathered was troubling.
Weight loss varied from bear to bear, with the daily loss of 1 kg representing just an average.
Some of the subject animals dropped up to 1.7 kg (3.75 lbs) every 24 hours.
That may not seem like much when an adult male polar bear can tip the scales at 550 kg (1,200 lbs) and a female at 320 kg (700 lbs), but it can add up fast.
And with less available to eat, the hungry bears have to travel farther and farther distances to find their next meal.
The individual that swam 175 km — a young female — set the record among the bears studied, but another, older female also covered 120 km (75 mi).
The endurance swims in search of food are energy-intensive and often fruitless for the bears.
They are efficient hunters when they’ve got the purchase of ice beneath them, Pagano and his colleagues explain, but they are clumsy when they are going after seals and trying to swim at the same time.
That leaves them scavenging on land for foods they would not ordinarily eat — and getting little payoff for their efforts.
“Polar bears are feeding on ducks and geese — catching them when they’re flightless and molting — as well as on their eggs,” Pagano says.
Other foods on the desperate bears’ menus included berries and other vegetation, bones, antlers and, in one case, a beluga whale carcass.
None of that fare is as calorie-rich as a steady diet of live, blubber-packed seals.
Some of the bears vigorously sought out these alternative sources of nutrition; others opted for a different strategy: resting and conserving the energy contained in their body mass.
The latter approach costs stored calories, but so does the former, as all of the plodding and searching burns through energy too.
“The amount of body tissue they were burning to try and find those terrestrial foods was basically the same as what they’d get from eating those terrestrial foods,” Pagano says. “So there’s no actual benefit.”
The researchers were surprised to find that the bears were going through not just fat stores to compensate for the poor rations but lean muscle tissue too.
Pagano is not certain why their metabolisms would adopt that strategy, but he has some ideas.
“There's some thought that burning lean body mass might be more energetically efficient in some respects relative to burning body fats,” he says.
“Also, conserving their body fat might provide them better thermal regulation once the winter and the ice return.”
That seasonal freeze-over is shorter than it used to be — though not by a lot.
In the 1980s, polar bears were on land for about 110 days out of the year, with no need to eat terrestrial foods since the fat deposits they’d accumulate thanks to wintertime seal-hunting was enough to carry them the rest of the year.
Now they're off the ice for 130 days on average.
It’s a measure of the nutritional knife’s-edge on which the bears operate that just 20 days can make the difference between whether they live and thrive or starve and die.
The individuals most likely to perish when food supplies are poor are young adults — due to their less-developed hunting skills — and cubs, whose principal source of nutrition, their mother’s milk, can vanish in lean times.
“If females are fasting for extended periods, they will actually stop lactating,” says Pagano.
Full-grown bears are by no means immune to danger, however.
The authors cite earlier research predicting that the adult male population could decrease by 24% if the ice-free summer season increases to 180 days.
This is especially so given the enormous energy intake — about 22,500 calories per day — that the big males need to maintain their body weight.
Polar bears aren’t the only species menaced by these findings. Humans are in harm’s way too.
The more time bears spend off the ice and on land, the greater the likelihood they will wander into cities and towns in search of something to eat — and residents could easily be hurt or attacked if they get in the way of the hungry animals.
People might also even be seen as sources of prey.
“When polar bears are on land, they act like other bears and become omnivores,” says Pagano. “It does raise the potential for human-bear interactions.”

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
April 23, 2024
HEATHER COX RICHARDSON
APR 24, 2024
In the past two days, the Biden-Harris administration has announced a wide range of new rules to protect ordinary Americans.
Yesterday, Vice President Kamala Harris announced that the administration has finalized two new rules affecting patients in nursing homes and receiving home care, as well as the workers who care for them. The first sets minimum staffing requirements for facilities funded by Medicare and Medicaid, and the second concerns how home healthcare companies account for Medicaid funding.
In a speech at the Hmong Cultural and Community Agency in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Harris noted the extraordinary value of healthcare workers. She also explained that about 1.2 million Americans live in federally funded nursing homes, which make up about four fifths of the nursing homes in the country. But the majority of those homes—about 75% of them—are understaffed. This is dangerous and isolating for patients and demoralizing for workers, who have high rates of burnout and turnover.
Now, nursing homes that receive federal funding will have to provide at least 3.48 hours of nursing care per resident every day, less than the 4.1 hours the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services advocate but enough to require the hiring of about 12,000 registered nurses and 77,000 aides, at an annual cost of almost $7 billion.
Consumer organizations and labor unions pushed for the new rule, but nursing home operators strongly oppose the new mandate, saying it will force facilities to close because of a shortage of nurses. In response, Health and Human Services secretary Xavier Becerra told Tami Luhby of CNN that no one should live in facilities that are unsafe or should receive inferior care. Luhby noted that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in September launched a $75 million campaign to increase the number of nurses in nursing homes.
The second rule the vice president announced had to do with home health aides. Medicaid currently pays about $125 billion a year to home healthcare companies, which employ hundreds of thousands of workers providing services for elderly and disabled Americans. These companies have never been required to report how that money was being spent. Now they will be required to spend 80% of the federal dollars they receive on workers’ salaries rather than administrative overhead.
Also yesterday, the Office for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced a final rule that strengthens the HIPAA medical privacy rule for people from states that ban abortions who seek reproductive health care in states that permit them. In response to threats by Republican state officials to charge women who cross state lines to obtain abortion, contraception, or fertility treatments, the new rule prohibits health care providers, health plans, and other entities from disclosing patients’ reproductive health care records to state officials when they are being sought to investigate or charge patients, doctors, or others.
Today, the Labor Department announced a new rule that would guarantee that salaried workers who make less than $59,000 a year are compensated fairly for overtime work. The Trump administration set the salary threshold for those who did not have overtime protections at $35,568. As of July 1, 2024, the threshold will be $43,888, and on January 1, 2025, it will rise to $58,656. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), former chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, said the change could affect 4 million workers.
“Too often, lower-paid salaried workers are doing the same job as their hourly counterparts but are spending more time away from their families for no additional pay,” acting secretary of the Department of Labor Julie Su said. “That is unacceptable. The Biden-Harris administration is following through on our promise to raise the bar for workers who help lay the foundation for our economic prosperity.”
Also today, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) voted 3–2 along party lines to ban the noncompete agreements that prevent workers from minimum-wage earners to top executives from changing jobs within the industry in which they work; senior executives can still be bound by such agreements. Initially used to protect trade secrets, noncompete clauses have expanded to cover what the FTC estimates to be 30 million people—one in five U.S. workers. They take away workers’ ability to improve their wages and conditions by quitting their jobs and moving to another company or starting their own. The FTC estimates that the end of such clauses could add almost $300 billion a year to workers’ wages.
“Robbing people of their economic liberty also robs them of all sorts of other freedoms,” FTC Chair Lina Khan said. Neil Bradley, head of strategic advocacy for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, countered: “If they can issue regulations with respect to unfair methods of competition, then there’s really no aspect of the U.S. economy they couldn’t regulate.” The U.S. Chamber of Commerce plans to sue over the rule.
A CBS News/YouGov poll released Monday found that, although Biden and Harris have made addressing climate change a centerpiece of their administration, only 10% of the people who say they think climate change is a very important issue had heard or read a lot about what the administration has accomplished, and 49% said they had read not much or nothing about it. When told some of the things the administration has done, a strong majority of those who care about addressing climate change support those policies.
“Even people who feel the administration has done too little on climate change support these policies,” reporters for CBS News note. They conclude that the disconnect “may be more about Mr. Biden needing to get his message out there than having to convince this ‘climate constituency’—those who call the climate issue very important—of the substance of his policies.”
Meanwhile, today is the fourth anniversary of the press conference in which former president Donald Trump suggested injecting disinfectant to get rid of Covid, prompting the maker of Lysol to warn people not to use their disinfectant cleaning products internally. Four years later, Trump spent the day in a Manhattan courtroom, where his former friend David Pecker, who ran the company that published the National Enquirer tabloid magazine, testified for the prosecution.
Legal analyst Lisa Rubin summarized Pecker’s testimony, noting that the big takeaways were that Trump and Pecker were transactional friends for decades and that “the agreement they struck in 2015 went way beyond the ‘catch and kill’ aspect of the scheme that has been known for years.” Together, they not only killed stories damaging to Trump, but also pushed fake stories about Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, and Marco Rubio, who were running against him for the 2016 Republican nomination, as well as Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.
As the trial grabs headlines, Trump’s power seems to be diminishing. He is demonstrably not in power in the courtroom, where he must do as the judge tells him and reporters say he has often fallen asleep, and none of his family members have shown up to support him.
Trump seems aware that his power is waning. Early yesterday, he called for supporters to “RALLY BEHIND MAGA,” but only a handful of people gathered outside the courthouse. Today he claimed that the turnout was low because police had “completely CLOSED DOWN” the streets around the courthouse. That was a lie: the streets, the sidewalk, even the courthouse have remained open to the public.
Pennsylvania’s primary election today revealed Trump’s real electoral weakness. He won about 83.5% of the Republican votes, but Nikki Haley, who dropped out of the race in early March and has not campaigned since, won 16.5%. In the suburbs of Philadelphia, the so-called “collar counties,” Haley won closer to 25% of the Republican vote.
Biden, meanwhile, took the fight against MAGA Republicans to Trump’s home state of Florida. There, an extreme abortion ban signed into law by Republican Governor Ron DeSantis will take effect on May 1, but in November, Florida voters will have the option to add protections for abortion before fetal viability to the state constitution, returning the state to the standards it had before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. That measure is expected to energize Democrats in the state.
And then, tonight, by a vote of 79–18, the Senate passed the $95 billion national security supplemental bill that provides funding, mostly for military supplies, to Ukraine, Israel, and the Indo-Pacific and humanitarian aid for war-torn countries; requires the sale of TikTok; and permits confiscating Russian assets. MAGA Republicans are still adamantly opposed to aid for Ukraine, but a strong bipartisan majority has finally gotten the chance to weigh in.
As soon as the measure passed, Biden issued a statement, saying: “Tonight, a bipartisan majority in the Senate joined the House to answer history’s call at this critical inflection point. Congress has passed my legislation to strengthen our national security and send a message to the world about the power of American leadership: we stand resolutely for democracy and freedom, and against tyranny and oppression.”

Ending Celibacy in the Catholic Church A Solution that Causes Problems and Solves None
Posted: July 13, 2023 by datechguy in catholic, Church doctrine Tags: catholic
The fact is while the motives for those pushing this might not be all that pure I find this issue interesting because unlike Gay Marriage or communion for the divorced this isn’t an issue that involves making mortal sin licit.
Many people forget that the imposition of celibacy on the priesthood was itself a reform to stop inherited parishes being passed down to sons as a family business rather than being about the worship of God, so if this reform was rolled back while it would be a big change from what we’re used to it would not be an assault on the doctrine of the church.
But there is a difference between this change being “licit” and it being wise. Let me give you a few reasons why this would be a rather foolish idea.
Time: If there is one thing that you will notice about your parish priest is that his time is at a premium. Between masses, hospital and nursing home visits, and various duties attending parishioners in need, a priest is very busy particularly give these duties are a 24/7 situation. Add to that the administrative duties and you leave very little time to take care of a wife and family.
Cost: Right now the cost of medical care for retired priests is a significant expense. Consider what costs you would be adding to the church in general and to parishes in particular if you added the cost of insuring a priest, his wife and children.
Housing: Once you are housing a priest his wife and his family you suddenly need bigger accommodations. While this might not be a disaster when you have a rectory that has a single priest when it was built to house several, if you have a parish with multiple priests suddenly housing one or more families becomes a real problem.
Scandal: What do you think will be the situation when a priest and his wife quarrel? Or a priest and his son? What happens when a priest’s son or daughter gets in trouble or if you run into a situation where a wife wants to leave? All of these things not only consume time to try to repair but have the potential for scandal within the church.
Jealousy: Anyone who has been in a parish for any amount of years will notice that there are a group of women who tend to pursue priests some more subtle than others. What do you think will happen when it is suddenly licit for a priest to get married? The pursuit of eligible priests in a parish will be a lot more brazen with results that will generate a lot of difficultly in for a man trying to fulfill his pastoral duties. And can you picture the type of trouble a woman whose advances are rejected by a priest can cause? Does the church really need that?
And of course none of this will solve the problem of predatory priests when you consider that four out of five cases involve homosexual behavior, in fact you might end up with the horrible situation where a priest uses a wife as a “beard” to cover such behavior. And these are just the problems that I’ve come up with today.
Share this:
My answer to all 5 supposed problem:
1.) Time? Seventy Five percent of male adults over 20 years old work 60 hours a week and manage it quite well.
2.) Cost? Ten percent of every dollar that goes into the collection plate on sunday goes to support the diocese and it's Bishop. Have you ever seen a Bishops Home? Trust me. They aren't roughing it.
3.) Housing? The last parish I was a member of had a 3000 square foot rectory, all housing for a single priest. Most parishes own blocks of land which would easily accommodate whatever expansion was required. Most of it tax free. San Antonio has 139 parishes. That's a lot of offerings.....weekly.
4.) Scandal? It couldn't be any worse than it is now. The optics of gay priests getting caught buggering teenage boys is far worse than most illicit heterosexual entanglements. The temptations a man would face in a parish are no greater than that of a man working in a corporate office filled with beautiful and intelligent women.
5.) Jealousy? The temptations associated with spiritually eager women (or men) trying to improve their place in the pecking order by sleeping with the boss is as old as work itself. It's found in every corporation and the secular world has managed to live with it. Why can't the Church. Protestant and evangelical churches have managed for centuries.
Protestant and evangelical churches have already found a way to face these challenges. We need only take their lead. The rectory of many allegedly celebrate priests has become a hot bed of control and sex based scandal. We couldn't do any worse than we do now. It is bizarre that anyone thinks these challenges are impossible to overcome. It simply show a lack of imagination when we decide we're not up to it.
One of the greatest priests I ever knew spent a season in Rome. He came back the victim of enormous doubts. There is a saying in the Catholic community that says......."Go to Rome and lose your faith." It is difficult for anyone to balance such opulence and greed with the poor homeless carpenter who started it all. My friend eventually fell in love with his secretary and left the church to be married. I remember disappointed angry with him at the time but today I understand it. God did not intend for men to live without a companion. There is no sin produced by having one.

The last days of 2022 had some good news for women
The U.S. Senate passed two acts that help working moms who are pregnant or breastfeeding. The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act and the Providing Urgent Maternal Protections for Nursing Mothers Act (known as the PUMP Act) were added to the 2023 omnibus spending bill, which now passed the Senate and is headed for a House vote.
The PUMP Act
The PUMP Act for nursing mothers requires organizations to provide time and space for breastfeeding parents. The Affordable Care Act of 2010 already requires that employers provide reasonable time to express breast milk and provide a place for pumping, other than the bathroom, that is shielded from view and private.
But the previous pumping law excluded most salaried employees, and the PUMP Act will extend these rights to all breastfeeding employees for the first year of the baby’s life. In addition, the new bill states, “Further, time spent to express breast milk must be considered hours worked if the employee is also working.”
According to the Surgeon General, breastfeeding can help protect babies from illnesses like ear infections, diarrhea and pneumonia and longer-term conditions such as obesity and asthma. It also lowers mothers’ risk of breast and ovarian cancer. Three out of four mothers in the U.S. start breastfeeding at birth, but only 13% of babies are exclusively breastfed by the end of six months.
One study in the journal Pediatricsestimates that if 90% of U.S. families breastfed for six months, the U.S. would save $13 billion from reduced medical and other costs and prevent over 900 infant deaths. In addition, individual families would save up to $1500 per year in infant formula costs.
The complications involved with pumping at work may contribute to women’s decision to stop breastfeeding. Nearly half of moms have expressed concern that breastfeeding at work could impact their career growth, according to a survey by a breast pump maker. And almost half of these women have considered a job change because of their desire to pump at work. A whopping 62% said there is a stigma attached to moms who breastfeed at work, indicating that workplaces still have much room for improvement.
Even when an organization wants to help women pump, individual managers can make expressing milk at work challenging. In her book Bully Market, Jamie Fiore Higgins describes her experience working at Goldman Sachs after her children were born. “Goldman had a lactation center, an entire floor with hospital-grade pumps, private lockers, a full-size kitchen and lactation consultants available 24/7,” she writes. But when her boss noticed Fiore had signed up for the lactation rooms, he allegedly told her that she needed to be at her desk working, not pumping, if she wanted to be promoted to managing director.
The PUMP Act garnered bipartisan support with some pushback from the airline industry. Given the small space on board flights, airlines had legitimate concerns about finding private areas for breastfeeding employees. The current bill made accommodations for the airline and rail industry and was amended to include a hardship exemption for small businesses. The PUMP Act was approved in a 92-5 Senate vote, with Republican Senators Rand Paul, John Cornyn, Mike Lee, Ron Johnson and Patrick Toomey voting against it.
Pregnant Workers Fairness Act
The second bill which helps mothers is the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act which requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations for medical conditions related to pregnancy and childbirth. While this bill also had bilateral support, the Senate voted to include it in the spending bill with a vote of 73 to 24. The law states that employers can’t deny employment opportunities based on these pregnancy accommodations, and they can’t “require employees to take paid or unpaid leave if another reasonable accommodation can be provided.”
“If a woman requests a stool to sit on or bathroom breaks, or a water bottle, even accommodations that are that simple, that basic and the subject of so much consensus — employers don’t have to provide those right now,” Senator Bob Casey said in an interviewafter the vote.
Although the bill has widespread bipartisan support, not everyone was in favor. Some felt the bill could force employers to make accommodations for abortions. Senator Thom Tillis told the Senate, “the legislation would subject pro-life organizations to potentially crippling lawsuits if they refuse to facilitate abortions in direct violation of their religious beliefs and their moral convictions.”
Tillis’ comments came after the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) had endorsed the bill and after the law had been revised to clarify that no employer would have to subsidize “any particular item, procedure or treatment.”
James Rogers, a spokesperson for the USCCB said the bill “helps advance USCCB’s goal of ensuring that no woman ever feels forced to choose between her future and the life of her child.”
This vital act comes at a time when one in five mothers is afraid to tell their employer about their pregnancy. And nearly one in four mothers (23%) have considered leaving their jobs due to a lack of reasonable pregnancy accommodations or fear of discrimination, according to a Morning Consult survey conducted in February 2022.
Working women should be able to choose to procreate and take steps to raise healthy children without jeopardizing their jobs. The PUMP Act and the pregnancy bill are steps in the right direction.

How To Finding Right Emergency Respite Care In Sydney
In Sydney, respite care plays a crucial role in providing caregivers with temporary relief while ensuring that their loved ones continue to receive the care and attention they need. Whether you're managing the care of an elderly parent, a loved one with a disability, or someone with a chronic illness, finding the right emergency respite care can be a challenge. But with the right resources and a bit of research, you can navigate this process smoothly and ensure that your loved one is in good hands during your time away.
This article will guide you through the process of finding the right emergency respite care in Sydney, with a focus on understanding what respite care is, how to identify your needs, and the steps you can take to secure a reliable provider.
What is Respite Care?
Respite care provides temporary relief for those who are caring for individuals with various needs, such as elderly relatives, people with disabilities, or those living with chronic conditions. Respite care services can be provided in-home or in a residential facility and typically range from a few hours to several days, depending on the level of care required.
Emergency respite care, in particular, refers to short-notice services that can be arranged quickly to provide immediate relief for caregivers. This could be needed in situations where the primary caregiver falls ill, has an urgent matter to attend to, or needs a break for personal reasons. Emergency respite care allows caregivers to manage unexpected situations without worrying about their loved one’s well-being.
Why is Respite Care Important?
For many primary caregivers, the stress of looking after a loved one 24/7 can be overwhelming. Respite care not only provides relief but also promotes the well-being of the caregiver. Taking a break helps prevent burnout, reduces stress, and improves the quality of care that the primary caregiver can provide once they return to their duties.
In addition to offering caregivers a break, respite care provides recipients with the opportunity to experience different social settings, interact with new people, and engage in activities that promote their well-being. This can be beneficial for both physical and emotional health, improving overall quality of life.
How to Identify Your Respite Care Needs
Before you begin your search for emergency respite care Sydney, it’s essential to assess your specific needs. The right care depends on several factors, including:
Level of Care Required Does your loved one require assistance with daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating, or are they more independent? If they have complex medical needs, you may require a service with registered nurses or specialist care.
Duration of Care How long will the respite care be required? Short-term respite care might involve a few hours or days, while longer-term care could be weeks.
Location Consider whether you prefer in-home care or care in a residential facility. Some people are more comfortable staying at home, while others may benefit from the social interaction available in a care facility.
Budget Respite care services can vary in cost depending on the type of care required, the provider, and the location. Understanding your budget will help narrow down your options.
Emergency Situation If you need emergency respite care, your options may be limited, so it’s crucial to act quickly and look for providers who can accommodate last-minute requests.
How to Find the Right Emergency Respite Care in Sydney
Research Local Providers
Start by researching respite care providers in Sydney. Many organisations offer both emergency and planned respite care, and some specialise in providing last-minute services. Websites like True Help and local services can be valuable resources for understanding your options.
Look for providers that are well-established in the Sydney area, have positive reviews, and offer the type of care that meets your needs. It's helpful to read testimonials or ask for recommendations from friends or other caregivers who have used respite care services.
Check for Accreditation and Licensing
When looking for respite care services, it’s important to verify that the provider is accredited by relevant Australian bodies. Providers must meet strict standards to ensure the safety and well-being of the individuals they care for. For example, look for accreditation by the Australian Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission or other industry-recognised agencies.
Consider Your Loved One's Preferences and Comfort
In addition to finding a provider that meets your logistical needs, consider what will make your loved one feel comfortable. If they are more comfortable in a familiar environment, in-home care might be the best choice. Alternatively, some people prefer the social interaction offered by a residential facility.
Emergency respite care providers should be flexible and willing to adjust their services to meet the needs of your loved one. This may include accommodating dietary preferences, allowing personal belongings, or arranging specific activities that your loved one enjoys.
Look for Flexibility in Emergency Situations
Since you are seeking emergency respite care, it’s crucial to choose a provider that can accommodate last-minute requests. Call ahead and ask about their process for handling emergency placements, their availability, and how quickly they can offer a service.
Make sure to discuss any urgent medical needs or other specific requirements your loved one may have. Providers with a strong track record in emergency situations will be able to respond promptly and professionally.
Ask About Insurance and Payment Options
Respite care can be expensive, and costs can vary significantly depending on the provider and the level of care required. Inquire about the pricing structure and whether the service accepts Medicare or private health insurance. You may also want to check if you’re eligible for funding or subsidies through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) or aged care packages.
Conduct an In-Person Visit
If possible, schedule an in-person visit to the respite care facility or a meeting with the in-home care provider. This will give you an opportunity to meet the staff, see the facilities, and get a better sense of the environment your loved one will be in. Pay attention to cleanliness, the professionalism of the staff, and the general atmosphere of the facility.
Popular Respite Care Providers in Sydney
Here are some leading providers of respite care in Sydney:
True Help
Including respite care. True Help can help you connect with approved providers in your area. Offering both residential and in-home respite care services. They are known for their compassionate approach to respite care.
Providing high-quality respite care with a focus on comfort and emotional support for both the caregiver and the person receiving care.
Conclusion
Finding the right emergency respite care in Sydney requires careful planning, research, and consideration of your loved one’s unique needs. By assessing the level of care required, checking for accreditation, and ensuring the provider can accommodate emergency situations, you can ensure a smooth experience during an otherwise stressful time.
Whether you choose in-home care or a residential care facility, Sydney offers a wide range of services to help ease the burden on caregivers. With the right support, you can take the necessary break to recharge, knowing that your loved one is in safe hands.

Advancements in Medical Technology: Technological advancements have improved treatment and rehabilitation, which increases the requirement for post-acute care services. Value-Based Care Models: The transition into value-based care models, which focus on quality over quantity, has motivated providers to invest in post-acute care to reduce readmissions and improve patient outcomes.
Market Challenges and Opportunities
The post-acute care market offers ample growth opportunities, but there are also several challenges in this market:
Complexity of Regulations: The healthcare industry faces a very complex regulatory environment that inhibits innovation and increases operational costs.
Staffing Shortages: Skilled healthcare professionals, such as nurses and therapists, might not be available in sufficient numbers for post-acute care providers to meet demand.
Payment Reform: Changes in payment structures like value-based reimbursement impact the financial viability of post-acute care providers.
However, amidst these obstacles, the post-acute care market presents significant opportunities:
Telehealth: It improves access to care, lowers costs, and enhances outcomes.

However, with various types of retirement homes available—from independent living communities to assisted living and skilled nursing facilities—the cost can be significant and varied. Understanding the true financial commitment can be essential for both individuals and families. In this post, we’ll take an in-depth look at the factors that influence retirement home costs, future cost projections, and strategies to plan for these expenses.
1. Types of Retirement Homes and Associated Costs
Retirement homes come in many forms, each catering to different levels of care and lifestyle preferences. Here’s a breakdown of the main categories:
a. Independent Living Communities
Independent living communities are designed for older adults who can live independently but prefer a maintenance-free lifestyle with added amenities like fitness centers, meal plans, and social activities. Monthly costs can vary widely depending on location, amenities, and level of luxury.
Average Cost: $1,500 - $4,000 per month.
Key Influencing Factors: Location, community type (e.g., age-restricted apartments vs. resort-style living), and available services.
b. Assisted Living Facilities
Assisted living facilities cater to individuals who may need help with daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, and medication management. This level of care involves higher costs due to the added medical and personal support.
Average Cost: $3,500 - $6,500 per month.
Key Influencing Factors: Care requirements, location, and additional services (like specialized memory care for residents with Alzheimer’s or dementia).
c. Skilled Nursing Facilities (Nursing Homes)
Nursing homes are best suited for those who require 24-hour medical care and monitoring. These facilities are the most expensive due to the high level of medical care provided.
Average Cost: $7,500 - $10,000 per month, depending on whether the care is semi-private or private.
Key Influencing Factors: Medical needs, room type, and geographic location.
2. Geographic Factors and Their Impact on Cost
The cost of retirement homes varies significantly depending on geographic location. Typically, urban areas and regions with a higher cost of living have more expensive retirement home fees. Here’s how location can impact costs:
Northeastern U.S. (e.g., New York, Massachusetts): $5,000 - $9,000 per month for assisted living.
Midwest U.S. (e.g., Indiana, Ohio): $3,500 - $5,500 per month for assisted living.
West Coast U.S. (e.g., California, Oregon): $4,500 - $8,000 per month for assisted living.
In rural or suburban areas, retirement home costs tend to be lower than in urban centers, often by as much as 15-30%. However, some high-end retirement communities located in scenic rural areas may still carry a premium.
3. Cost Projections: What Will Retirement Homes Cost in 2030 and Beyond?
Retirement home costs are expected to rise due to inflation, increased demand for services, and the need for specialized care options. Here’s a forecast based on recent trends:
2024-2030: Experts predict an average increase of 4-5% annually in retirement home costs. This would mean that a $4,000/month assisted living facility could cost nearly $5,000/month by 2030.
Beyond 2030: With the Baby Boomer population expected to reach advanced ages, demand for specialized care facilities (e.g., memory care units) is expected to surge, likely pushing costs even higher.
4. Additional Fees and Costs to Consider
a. Entrance Fees
Some retirement communities, particularly Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), require a one-time entrance fee in addition to monthly charges. Entrance fees can range from $50,000 to $300,000 or more, depending on the level of care and location.
b. Amenities and Additional Services
Many facilities offer optional services like housekeeping, laundry, meal delivery, and transportation. These added amenities may come with extra fees ranging from $100 to $1,000 per month, depending on the package and service level.
c. Health Care and Medical Services
Medical costs are generally not fully included in the base price of a retirement home. For assisted living and nursing facilities, medical services such as physical therapy, medication administration, and specialized treatments may incur additional charges.
5. How to Plan for Retirement Home Costs
Given the costs involved, planning for retirement home expenses can be daunting. Here are some financial strategies that can help:
a. Long-Term Care Insurance
Long-term care insurance can cover some or all of the costs associated with assisted living and skilled nursing care. Premiums can be substantial, but purchasing a policy in advance (typically by age 50 or 60) can result in savings in the long run.
b. Personal Savings and Investments
Building a retirement fund that accounts for potential retirement home costs is essential. Consider using tax-advantaged retirement accounts like IRAs and 401(k)s, and aim to allocate a portion specifically for long-term care.
c. Medicare and Medicaid
Medicare may cover short-term nursing home stays, but it generally does not cover long-term care in retirement homes. Medicaid, however, can help cover costs for those with limited financial resources, especially for nursing homes. Medicaid requirements and benefits vary by state, so it’s important to consult with a financial advisor to understand eligibility.
d. Home Equity Conversion
For homeowners, using home equity through options like a reverse mortgage can be a viable way to fund retirement home expenses. However, this decision should be made carefully, ideally with guidance from a financial planner.
6. Exploring Affordable Alternatives
If the costs of traditional retirement homes are prohibitive, other affordable alternatives include:
Aging in Place with Home Health Aides: Many seniors prefer to stay in their homes and hire help as needed. This option can be more affordable, especially when only partial assistance is required.
Shared Housing Options: Some seniors find roommates or opt for co-living arrangements, reducing individual costs while providing companionship.
Nonprofit and Government-Assisted Communities: Some nonprofit and government-supported retirement communities offer lower-cost housing and care options, though there may be a waiting list or specific eligibility requirements.
7. Final Thoughts on the True Cost of Retirement Homes
Planning for retirement home costs is critical for financial stability in later years. The key to effective planning is understanding both the current and projected costs of various options and exploring financial strategies that suit individual needs. While the costs may seem high, with careful planning, individuals and families can prepare for a comfortable and secure transition to retirement living. Whether through personal savings, insurance, or exploring affordable alternatives, a proactive approach to managing these costs can make all the difference.
