I was rewatching Gods and Generals (I know, burn me at the stake) the movie is so stupid. Here’s some things that stuck out to me the most and some complaints.
Confederate Propaganda (obviously)
General Lee isn’t played by Martin Sheen, I have trust issues now
Whenever the Union Army was close by, a lot of slaves would follow them to the north or work for the Union. (Enemy contraband.) So, in the movie, the enslaved woman and her children were left to defend their masters home. The home was turned into a field hospital, and when the Union Army left Fredricksburg, she didn’t go with them. She even said she “wanted to die free”. Why wouldn’t you get you and your children out of slavery and go with the Union? Wait because the propaganda states that being in slavery wasn’t bad after all? (It was bad after all.)
When Dr. McGurie (Jackson’s surgeon) tells Anna Jackson that her husband’s arm had to be amputated, she didn’t even flinch. Not a gasp, not a look of disgust, no crying, nothing. Like damn, Anna, is this a common occurrence?
The “Fightin’ for my rats” guy was in this movie as well, but he says nothing about his rats and he dies during the Battle of Chancellorsville.
Fanny Chamberlain’s hot. That’s not really a complaint but it’s a statement.
It didn’t show JEB Stuart and Stonewall Jackson laying together 😡😡
There’s probably more that I’m forgetting.

“There’s a whole segment of the audience who know me as Ike Clanton from Tombstone. They don’t care about Avatar! There’s people who love me for my Civil War films, then occasionally some guy will come up to me and say, ‘I loved Band of the Hand!’
“You know, when I meet someone like that, I know they were 14 when they saw it. They’re not necessarily great films, but we saw them at the absolute right time in our life, and it’ll be with us forever. You never really know where it’s gonna be. I hope I do many more films over the next 20 years that other people will know me from or whatever. It’s what I do! It’s what you wanna do as an actor, keep making films.” Stephen Lang, 2022

i have a billion other criticisms about star trek aos but the one thing i'll never forgive them for is taking away uhura's whimsy. tos uhura has such a bright & joyful presence she is kind and funny and artistic and cares about her looks WHILE ALSO being smart and badass and not afraid to speak her mind (especially in the movies. i love her). aos uhura is reduced to a one-dimensional #girlboss who takes no shit from anyone yet somehow lacks enough self-respect to stay in a boring & unsatisfying relationship with a man who is so obviously not attracted to women

Bro, I don't even really like Gods and Generals (the movie), and I was forced to watch it during my Civil War class.
But I honestly love the fact that J.E.B. Stuart was the most fruity man when meeting Jackson at the beginning of the movie.

you know what i think is really cool about dungeon meshi? the fact that it really handles the whole 'how our food is made' so gracefully. in this day and age, we've become so disconnected from how our food is produced and distributed that the thought of how our food is obtained brings disgust to many people (and for the big industry farms, it honestly should! but im referring to our existence as omnivores in the food chain). marcille acted ridiculous whenever the thought of killing a monster for food is brought up, but honestly, she's a great model for how many people nowadays react whenever they have to truly think about what they are consuming/are brought to a meat farm.
senshi shows the characters (and us, the audience) about the process of making food in a respectful, genuine way to the creatures he has used to produce nourishing meals. by explaining the nutrition and benefits of each creature, he creates and healthy relationship between the consumers and the meal they have. the show really brings a new dimension of respect for each of our meals. truly the bob ross/marie kondo of cooking.
