This one is probably my most popular item! I designed it myself! He cute right? 😉 Can you tell I’m inspired by Utapri 😂? But this Acrylic charm has chibi Ginga floating above my logo. It’s based on my 1st Idol outfit from Metrocon 2015! When I started my journey!🌌🥺💙💜✨🥰
For those who have been with me for so long and since the beginning … thank you so much .////. It makes me so happy!💕

A Kenshi Takahashi Playlist ♫
Featuring chill 80s, indie pop, and rock music. Heavy on the melancholic and wistful sound. Songs are linked below!
Tumblr media
Ginga Densetsu- Akina Nakamori
youtube
An 80s jpop song filled with all the right city pop elements with a mysterious and dramatic flair. A perfect song for Kenshi imo.
All Dead- L'arc-en-Ciel
youtube
A beautiful 90s jrock song reminiscent of both aching for and wanting to forget your past and what once was. Sounds like anger from a place of aching. Sounds like everything you once knew ending and still getting up the next morning.
Owner of a Lonely Heart- YES
youtube
This chill 80s rock song is both easy to dance to and has a touch of sadness and longing. It reminds me of Kenshi's character. I can picture Kenshi listening to this in a convertible with the roof down for some reason.
My Desire- Interpol
youtube
Possibly one of the most yearnful yearning songs to ever exist. My hc is Kenshi is a man who doesn't prioritize love in his life. But when he falls- he falls off a cliff. Love is like a kick to the stomach for him. He's not sure how to accept it, to express or show it, but he needs it. He's not sure how he went on without it for so long.
MY FUNNY VALENTINE- BUCK-TICK
youtube
90s jrock gold (Seriously such a good song!!) Sounds like enemies to lovers to me. Something about the beat just gives me Kenshi vibes, specifically his more humorous and playful side.
Strangelove- Depeche Mode
youtube
I am a firm believer that Kenshi would be a Depeche Mode fan. This reminds me of an ex-Yakuza FBI agent Kenshi trying to live his life away from his criminal past.
나쁜 남자 Bad Man- Rain
youtube
A sexy and iconic 1st generation kpop song. Kenshi is not Korean lol but as a Korean myself I have to throw one in there. I am a Korean Suchin truther though (she has a Korean name let me livee). Although this song sounds badass, the lyrics are filled with guilt. It really reminds me of Kenshi (and perhaps his past with Suchin... ?)
KISS ME GOOD-BYE- BUCK-TICK
youtube
Another 90s buck-tick song. It’s such a charming and sweet song. I think that Kenshi would like it. It gives me domestic vibes. The guitar solo is delicious.
Eyes Without A Face- Billy Idol
youtube
My hc is that Johnny Cage loves Billy Idol, and showed Kenshi this to cheer him up...? Because it was funny? I don't know. But Kenshi ended up genuinely loving it. This song is incredibly beautiful and melancholic!
(This is 100% just for fun and please feel free to add other songs!! I want to do Liu Kang or Ashrah next)

Super Robot Rollcall: The GEAR Fighters
Ginga Izumo
Tumblr media
"The universe doesn't need no 'king'!"
Source Material: GEAR Fighter Dendoh Age: 11 Birthday: May 5th Height: 145 cm Hobbies: Watching anime Voice Actress: Youko Mitsuoka Character Designer: Hirokazu Hisayuki
A little boy who enjoys practicing karate at his mother's dojo, playing sports, watching anime, and idol bands... until one day, through a series of convoluted events, he finds himself alongside a classmate he can't stand in the cockpit of a mysterious robot! A story as old a time.
As 11-yos often do, the two very quickly conciliate their differences and become friends.
His dad is often travelling around the world, but he doesn't really miss him, because he tends to bring the customs of wherever he last went along whenever he comes to visit, which tends to cause a lot of embarrassment for Ginga...
Tumblr media
Compared to Hokuto, Ginga has better Melee, Defense and Skill. All around, both of them have fairly good stats, but defensively they're not so impressive.
Hokuto Kusanagi
Tumblr media
"This isn't some sports match! We can't just say 'oh well, i lost!' and go home!!"
Source Material: GEAR Fighter Dendoh Age: 11 Birthday: July 7th Height: 147 cm Hobbies: Watching anime, playing billiards and football, building plastic models Voice Actress: Naomi Shindou Character Designer: Hirokazu Hisayuki
A timid boy who enjoys spending time with his parents, with his computer, with plastic models, and most of all, with his beloved dog. One day, the Galfa Empire attacks his town, and in the commotion, he ends up in the cockpit of the Dendoh alongside a classmate he can't stand!
As 11-yos often do, the two very quickly conciliate their differences and become friends.
Lately, his duties as a Dendoh pilot have been getting in the way of his personal life. He's no Peter Parker, but he finds himself having less time to spend with his dad, and his mom seems so distant recently...
Tumblr media
Compared to Ginga, Hokuto has better Ranged, Accuracy and Evasion. They're both fairly competent in terms of statline, but even though i like Hokuto more, it's kind of a fact that Ginga's a better pilot in a vaccuum. Still, you'll be shifting between them many times a stage if you're deploying them anyway.
GEAR Fighter Dendoh
Tumblr media
Source Material: Gear Fighter Dendoh Height: 24.5 meters Power Source: double a batteries 2 Hyper Dendoh Batteries Real World Designer: Jun'ichi Akutsu
A mysterious robot that can only be controlled when both Gear Commanders (in essence, control units) light up, which only happens when Dendoh itself judges the pilots to be worthy. The Gear Commanders allow the pilots to catch "Data Weapons", large bioelectrical cryptids who become weapons for the Dendoh, powering it up.
In other words, it's the closest SRW will ever have to a "summoner" type character, which (combined with how great the show is) really endears me to this thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We get the Dendoh with the Unicorn Drill already acquired, and shifting to it will swap the pilot to Hokuto. Unicorn Drill grants us Fire Wall, a decent barrier ability, and most importantly, having a Data Weapon grants the Dendoh the ability to use the Final Attack, a move that deals more damage the more EN the Dendoh has remaining, but that will always leave it with only 10 EN remaining. As of right now, we have no way of refilling Dendoh's EN without putting it back in the ship (which will RAPIDLY drain the pilots' Will, especially in R), and all of its moves spend at least a little bit of EN, and most spend quite a bit. As such, the Dendoh is a potentially VERY powerful unit, but it requires wise utilization, and i find it to be one of the most fun and rewarding units to use in the game.
Both forms are clearly meant to be Super Robots, but have fairly unimpressive HP and Armor. Unicorn Drill's Fire Wall will prove very useful to us in the future.
Vega
Tumblr media
"Rushing in blindly out of rage is the same as admitting defeat."
Source Material: GEAR Fighter Dendoh Age: ??? Birthday: ??? Voice Actress: Kotono Mitsuishi Character Designer: Hirokazu Hisayuki
The mysterious second in command at GEAR HQ. She finds herself tasked with taking care of the Dendoh's young pilots, and she's quite adept at her job. She's extensively trained in CQC, and can fight beyond the limits of a normal human, demonstrating superhuman abilities at multiple points.
For whatever reason, she sometimes finds herself uncomfortable around Hokuto.
Tumblr media
You would be excused if you thought she was a support unit, but make no mistake, Vega is a real robot pilot geared to be dealing damage through and through. Her stats are all quite decent, and her Spirit learnset does not disappoint either.
Valkyrie
Tumblr media
Source Material: Gear Fighter Dendoh Real World Designer: Jun'ichi Akutsu
Vega's specialized combat bike. It's loaded with missiles and various lightweight CQC weapons that make use of Vega's fantastical skillset. So long as they're on the ground, Vega can stand up even against Mobile Suits, Mechabeasts and the like.
It can also hover above water, although "hover" may be an incorrect way of putting it; rather, it's capable of driving atop water.
Tumblr media
It's no powerhouse, but this thing can actually put in some work. It's nigh impossible to hit (especially with upgrades to its Mobility), and while it'll never hit quite as hard as a dedicated combat unit, it can hit hard enough thanks to Vega's stats.
The true draw of this thing, however, is that it shares upgrades 1 to 1 with another unit we'll get much later, and that other unit can be piloted by other characters. If you really want to, you can pump upgrades into this machine and get two competent machines to decently upgraded levels for the cost of one.

Kikuchi Momoko Lyrics: Idol wo Sagase (アイドルを探せ; Find an Idol)
English translation and romanization below the cut.
ENGLISH
You’re looking with bated breath for a planet Without a name in some corner of the Milky Way The observatory that overlooks town Is the closest station there is to a dream... Your face beside me is dazzlingly bright
Mysteries swirl around the sky in the image of a revue I watch in fascination, almost as if praying to it Live your whole entire life Like the boy you were this summer day I’d let myself get hurt in your stead To keep those dreamy eyes of yours from clouding up
“I hope you’re the last person I ever meet,” I whispered to your back I’ll give you the smallest star there is Go on and find it It’s a card of miracles, turned over by our destiny
Why do I feel so wistful When I look at the sky as dawn breaks... ? Because my existence was lived within a day That’s already disappeared from my memory Who woke me from my long slumber? All so I’d meet you my dear, much like a gust of wind
“I hope you’re the last person I ever meet,” Laughs the person with warm eyes Find the smallest star... I’d like to keep breathing in your dreams Even if time fades away...

7/12/22
It's been a while! My new job has started to get a little more comfortable for me as I've been learning. There's still many moments where I don't know what to do and always need to ask for help, but it's getting much less frequent and im able to get through my day relatively smoothly despite that. I'm no where near as exhausted coming home like I was with target. I'm a LOT less stressed as well.
I've been preparing the last few months for Metrocon's Anime Idol. Which I will be doing by myself for the first time. I don't think I have ever sang on stage by myself before...so this will be a new experience for me. I know I will be very nervous. I had been doing my best to work out and eat healthier, and I made some small progress with it and was doing well for a couple months...but then of course... life happens and the world and it's politics have been a bit traumatizing. My emotions, depression and anxiety has been a constant roller coaster. I stopped working out and eating according to my diet for a while, and am basically back to where I started with no change or progress. The performance is in three days....I was feeling quite terrible, but then I bounced back with a newfound perspective. I don't need to change anything about who I am right now to be proud of myself and have a good time. These past few months I have been part of a youtube singing competition show which has been an amazing experience for me and a LOT of fun. I met two new friends who are amazingly kind and supportive people, and gotten more familiar with Ginga (a mentor) who also not only is a winner from Anime idol but won this singing competition as well.
We've talked quite a bit and she really gave some inspiring and motivating words. I've been able to have fun with singing for the first time in so, so, so long. And I want to hold onto that special feeling. I don't want to be constantly scared and miserable with what I love anymore. There's a lot of insecurities I have about myself and my dreams...but as long as I remember that I should be having fun and I can still make a difference no matter what, ill be okay. And getting these opportunities and being part of something like this is exciting and special and unique. Just like when i would act on stage. The only person making all of these things a huge deal is myself. I can control how I feel about a situation. I don't need to prove anything to anyone. I'm allowed to just put myself out there and try new things. To grow in the ways that is comfortable and valuable to me.
Now obviously, I really want to win this competition. That's just who I am. And I mean, who doesn't want to win? But what are the odds that my little performance would make a big enough show all by myself? I know it's not IMPOSSIBLE but...I also don't want to base my feelings about doing this on whether or not I win. But man at the same time it would SUCK not to get anything AT ALL. That would be a real kick in the stomach lol I should just try and approach it like i did with Auracle. Just hoping to get a judges award....
BUT AAA I want to get the Best In Show so much!! To just be able to say HA!! I DID THIS ALL BY MYSELF! I DONT NEED A GROUP BEHIND ME BECAUSE IM JUST THIS GOOD ON MY OWN!! It's like a physical and widely recognized symbol of that. And i want to show that off. Not just for me but to EVERYONE. And i knowww this kind of falls under me caring what people think and basing my worth and value based on others opinions but...cmon.... I can't help that I'm competitive.
But again, I need to just have the most fun I can. And...much like this singing competition, not go in it with the expectation or need to win. But with the excitement to see how far I can go. What can I accomplish all by myself? And this time, I won't have any excuse for not deserving it or...pushing the praise to something else that doesn't really have to do with me. I can fully accept the results of my efforts. I can accept any praise, compliments, awards...knowing it's because of ME and no one else. Now, I know even with Auracle, i kind of credit our win to the kind of competition we had that year, which wasnt very impressive. But there's definitely going to be a lot of people that are going to be worthy competitors this year. I just know it. Especially after witnessing last year. I know Mel is going to be performing. Possibly with some back up dancers...lol God i dont want her to win over me.. LOL Idk....is it possible? Can I win against groups of people? Can I stand out enough that I am enough on my own to make a good enough impact?
I've been doing my best to practice, but my stamina is no where near what it used to be, and singing an entire song (even if its shorter) by myself while moving around and dancing...is very difficult. It's hard to catch my breath. And Ginga said theres nothing that irks her more than someone out of breath while singing. BUT I WANT TO BE ENTERTAINING AS WELL TT
I'm doing what I can right now to balance it. Where I have movements, some choreo here and there, but im not going all crazy. And...hopefully...thats enough!! I mean..its valid to want a great result after all this prep and effort ive put in up to this point. The outfit, the wig, practicing, trial and error....But i know other people are putting in a lot of effort too. And whoever the trophy goes to...will surely be worthy of it. Especially because Ginga is judging this year. And I know they are very fair and have a great sense of performance and talent of all kinds. I always get so focused on the end result, rather than how I feel doing everything leading up to it. I should have fun up there. Yes, do my best to give as great of a performance as I can, but still have fun. And dont be....god its hard to tell myself not to be disappointed by not winning what i want to win. Is winning really the only pay off to working this hard? Will all this work, money and effort and stress I put in not be worth it if I can't get the exact result I want? But I mean a competition is a competition. It's about comparing yourself and trying to be the best. And i dont think theres any ranking for this competition other than Best In Show. The others are just categories and judge personal favorites. or in other words 'brownie points'. lol
BUT I also will be gaining a new perspective and experience on how I feel performing as a soloist. Will I like it? Will i not like it? I think theres a fair chance that I won't like live performing. It just seems like a whole lot of stress and nerves all for...what? idk. I may just like recording and perfecting and controlling the content I put out rather than just being on a stage getting one chance to make things right. I like the IDEA of performing at the sense of 'inclusion' it gives. Theres that slight bit of importance when you are given the stage that can be nice. I know I always looked at a stage longingly since I was a kid. There was always something so special and maybe even glamorous about it. Something that gave you a sense of importance. Being able to show yourself and earn your place there. I always liked being able to be good at something and for others to enjoy it. What makes acting different than singing for me? Why is acting more comfortable? Is it because my acting was more socially accepted? More recognized and praised? i always jumped at the chance to do it because i really had fun with it. I had fun with even the technical level of it. And i loved the praise i would receive. Singing tho....not so much. Because what makes a really good singer is...a lot harder and a LOT more technical and my family always just got annoyed with it. But it's just as vulnerable as acting in its own ways.
Theres always so much for me to think on and sort through...but to end this, i just want to do something for myself again. To get myself back on a stage. Where I felt the most special. Sure, I was always scared, nervous, anxious all of those things. But I wouldn't do it if it wasnt rewarding in its own way. Those plays i was a part of gave me no awards or public recognition. The reward was a happy audience. The reward was making connections and growing in the craft. It was having fun and learning from others.

This is my personal list. In this list you will find the anime I plan to watch for this Anime Season, and you will also find the anime that didn’t fall under my Otome Edition list. You guessed it: This list will give you an idea on what kind of content you can expect in My Sinful Otome Garden in the following months! As the season goes, I will start scratching off the ones I drop, too. I wonder which ones will come at the top? Curious on how I pick my anime? I have an explanation below!

Liesl’s Sinful Corner:
Oh my! This is a way longer list compared to last season’s lol Tbh I was worried that I wasn’t going to find many interesting ones, but somehow I ended with such a super long list. Even I’m a little scared of how long it is atm, but I will probably end up dropping most just like in every season! I think I’m a little ruthless(?) I WILL drop anime without hesitation, no matter how “good” others think it is. I’m super picky & end up with the underrated ones most of the time haha Compared to the disappointing Fall 2017, Winter 2018 was actually such a great season! I even nicknamed it the “Liesl Cries in Every Anime Season” because of how much tears I shed.
I’m kinda disappointed with the lack of otome game adaptations and idol anime for this season lol That’s not a problem though because I will get my dose of Ikemen from various anime!
For me, this season is going to be dominated by my favorite genres: Action, Supernatural, and Psychological. I’m so excited! Caligula, Dorei-ku The Animation, Mahou Shoujo Site, Mahou Shoujo Ore, QZGS OVA and Persona 5 are the ones I’m looking fwd to the most! I can already see a few competing for 1st place. Well, here’s to a great anime season!🥂
How I choose my anime:
Art+Story
I look at the art. I love pretty art! (Ikemen is a +) Once it catches my attention, I will watch a few eps. to see if I will continue it or drop it.
Continue or Drop?
Pretty art + great story. This is so my type! ♡ Continue. I am a sucker for pretty art, but pretty art + suckish story. Drop. In most cases, bad art + great story. Continue.
Genre?
Any genre is fine. Nowadays, I go for the Mature ones. Fantasy, Romance, Horror, Supernatural, Psychological and Mystery seem to be my main ones. I do tend to stay away from Yuri and Slice of Life because they’re not really my cup of tea. lol
Fanservice?
It doesn’t bother me, Hooray for Oppai, panties, and shirtless Ikemen, but it does need to have a great story or I will drop it.
Ships?
I have both straight ships and BL ships, but tbh I mostly ship all the Ikemen with myself lmfao

In the kaiju circles I usually run in, we tend to refer to the period between (and including) 2007 and 2012 as the “wilderness years”, i.e., a time when the output of new, original kaiju media reached a significant low. That’s not to say there wasn’t anything new – independent films like Deep Sea Monster Raiga and Geharha, the Dark and Long-Haired Monster gained attention in 2009, while the omnipresent Ultraman franchise quietly but steadily beat on against the popular current. Perhaps the perceived lack of output is not the reason we refer to these years the “wilderness” – there was almost at least one new production for each of the aforementioned years. Rather, the wildly varying quality of this period’s output is a more likely explanation. An even bigger contributing factor may be the lack of a big name franchise to anchor this period, with Godzilla having gone on self-imposed retirement in 2004, and a new Gamera franchise failing to take off after 2006’s Gamera the Brave.
In the 1960s, the presence of Toho and Daiei’s mega-franchises allowed competing studios to throw their hats into the kaiju ring – Nikkatsu offered up Gappa, the Triphibian Monster (1967), Toei introduced us to The Magic Serpent (1966), and crashing down to Earth came The X From Outer Space (1967), from Shochiku. With Godzilla and Gamera raking in mega-bucks at the box office, these alternative offerings were able to bask in reflected glory. However, between 2007 and 2012 no such big franchises existed, and while Ultraman persisted, his popularity and box office draw was the lowest it had been since the franchise was resurrected with Ultraman Tiga (1996). During Godzilla’s Millennium series (1999 to 2004), Japanese filmgoers became fatigued with the varying quality of each successive production, and eventually grew tired of giant monster action on the big screen. Gamera’s attempted resurrection in 2006 never stood a chance – the climate simply rendered it moot.
The “wilderness years” nonetheless represent something relatively unique in the history of the kaiju genre: a surprisingly high number of kaiju comedies were produced in this time. Much like the spaghetti-western in the ‘70s, perhaps kaiju filmmakers sought to keep the genre alive by introducing over-the-top comedic elements to the traditional genre structures in the search for something fresh and new. The first of the big kaiju comedies was Hitoshi Matsumoto’s Big Man Japan, released in 2007. Something of an absurdist deconstruction of the “giant hero” genre, the film features Matsumoto himself as a deadbeat loser with no friends, strained relationships with his few family members, and a lifestyle just above the poverty line – and who can transform into a giant to combat kaiju attacks. In a highly surrealistic ending – even by this film’s standards – Big Man Japan even manages to make a statement about Japan’s uneasy relationship with its superpowered ally, the United States. Acting as something not unlike a kaiju play on This is Spinal Tap!, Big Man Japan is perhaps not the most accessible kaiju comedy for Western viewers, but is certainly at least something entirely new for the genre during a time when it desperately needed exactly that.  However, for every This is Spinal Tap!, there’s sure to be a Superhero Movie, or Epic Movie, or…
Minoru Kawasaki’s Monster X Strikes Back! Attack the G-8 Summit – a satirically flaccid attempt to parody the leaders of the free world – could not have come at a worse time. Resurrecting the monster Guilala from The X From Outer Space after an absence of 41 years on the screen, the film makes two tardy fundamental errors: coming along after Godzilla and Gamera were both discharged from active duty, and reviving a one-shot monster that hadn’t been seen on the big screen (in any non-stock footage cameo capacity) for four decades – even then, that was during what was practically the complete opposite of the wilderness years: the “Kaiju Boom” of the 1960s. 2008 also saw the release of Great Decisive Battle! Superior Ultraman 8 Brothers, the 20th theatrically released Ultraman movie. Featuring return appearances from characters that spanned 40 years of the franchise, the film is a very fine one, but ultimately falls into the pitfall that so many Ultraman features do: overdependence on the audience’s familiarity with the franchise’s rich history. This problem is especially highlighted by the fact that the film largely takes place in an alternate universe with equally alternate versions of otherwise familiar characters.
2009 was somewhat kinder to the kaiju genre, with a generally more favourable slew of features seeing release. Shinpei Hayashiya, responsible for the legendary fan-film Gamera 4: Truth (2003), released the second film in his Reigo/Raiga series, Deep Sea Monster Raiga. A sequel to 2005’s Reigo: The Deep Sea Monster vs. the Battleship Yamato, the film – to put it lightly – is an uneven one, and suffers from a wildly irregular tone and some flat attempts at humour. Nonetheless, Hayashiya’s adoration of the genre shines through enough to make the film at least an enjoyable one. An even more affectionate tribute to the genre shines through in the 20-minute short Geharha: The Dark and Long-Haired Monster. Featuring direct homages to the likes of Invasion of Astro-Monster (1965) and The Mysterians (1957), Geharha benefits from a brisk running time and breakneck humour, all the while being careful not to mock the genre itself, but just affectionately have fun with it. Director Kiyotaka Taguchi would – very deservedly - go on to anchor the Ultra series’ return to glory, working on the television productions Ultraman Ginga (2013), Ultraman X (2015), Ultraman Orb (2016), and their movie counterparts.
The same cannot be said for Tomoo Haraguchi’s Death Kappa (2010). Produced with noble intentions – to film a new, original kaiju film created entirely through the use of traditional tokusatsu effects techniques – Death Kappa is nothing short of a trainwreck of a movie. Much of the humour is detrimentally absurd, and some jokes commit the cardinal sin of actually making fun of the genre and techniques it claims to be paying homage to. Haraguchi’s intentions were certainly commendable, but the finished product ranks among the very worst of the kaiju genre and – somewhat dishearteningly – is a film that betrays its own modus operandi. Haraguchi’s efforts (or lack thereof) are doubly disappointing considering he previously worked on the outstanding special effects of Gamera: Guardian of the Universe (1995), and Gamera 2: Advent of Legion (1996). Aside from cameos from future Shin Godzilla directors Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi, Death Kappa is ultimately a film best left forgotten about, and most likely will be.
The “wilderness years” saw the release of two further Ultraman films: 2009’s Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends! The Movie, and its direct sequel Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial in 2010. Both films are among the very best of the theatrical Ultra series, and thrust the franchise’s visuals lightyears forward by heavily combining traditional tokusatsu effects with substantial helpings of green-screen and CGI. While gratuitous green-screen photography can look ugly when used in excess, the vast space opera-esque lsndscapes richly brought to life in these two Ultra-films are a testament to Tsuburaya Productions’ willingness to try new things to ensure their most iconic franchise remains relevant, fresh, and most importantly, fun, without ever betraying or abandoning the core dynamics and conceits of the franchise.
Among these uneven times, however, emerges a diamond in the rough: 2009’s Demeking, the Sea Monster, a theatrical adaptation of a popular 1991 manga by Takashi Imashiro. Despite what could be argued a misleading title, Kotaro Terauchi’s film is a quietly beautiful meditation on the importance and inevitability of accepting the responsibilities that come with growing up. The sea (in actuality, space) monster of the title only appears in a magnificently shot dream sequence – something the film has received frustratingly undeserved scorn for from the wider Western kaiju community – and this is absolutely to the film’s benefit. Demeking becomes a coming-of-age subversion of the genre itself: a kaiju movie without a kaiju, or at least the literal physical appearance of one within the film’s internal world. While certainly not for the average viewer who is simply looking to enjoy a traditional kaiju romp, Demeking is a woefully underrepresented movie that stands out as the crowning jewel of a difficult period in the genre’s history.
It’s worth mentioning that these “wilderness years” also saw Heisei Godzilla special effects director Koichi Kawakita release his short film The God of Clay, while in 2009 the independent feature Daikaiju Eiga “G” saw release. All was not quiet on the Western front with the highly-secretive release of Cloverfield, while on Japanese television, Tsuburaya Productions released Ultraseven X, two seasons of Ultra Galaxy: Mega Monster Battle, and the compilation clip-show Ultraman Retsuden. 2010’s Daimajin Kanon reintroduced Daiei’s stone idol in a serialised television format, with mixed degrees of success.
The wilderness ended in 2013, which saw the seeds of the current kaiju renaissance being planted. Guillermo Del Toro’s mechs-against-monsters epic Pacific Rim paved the way for Legendary’s MonsterVerse, the Ultra franchise returned to television and begun its current successful streak with Ultraman Ginga and Neo Ultra Q, with each subsequent series proving more successful than the last. Minoru Kawasaki also released his second kaiju feature, Earth Defence Widow – but the least said about that, the better. As previously posited, these “wilderness years” can be defined not by their lack of kaiju productions, but perhaps instead by the absence of a steady ongoing franchise to anchor the period, and the inconsistent quality of the content these years did produce. However, regardless of the value of the period as a whole, the ragtag group of productions that formed the “wilderness years” kept the flame of the kaiju genre burning long enough for it to be rekindled with the widespread genre resurgence enjoyed today.

Kirby!
i’m guessing you want all of ‘em for Kirby? OKEY DOKEY!
(some of them aren’t fandom specific though i noticed because this meme’s format is a lil funky. I cut those out instead.)
1. Name one of your favourite characters
let’s put a bit of variety in and I’ll say Bandana Dee. He’s everyone’s idol, and a cutie pie to boot! When he first became playable in RTDL I was all over that because!!! Waddle Friend!!!
2. Name one of your favourite villains
Customer Service. Ha you think I can make an ask meme about Kirby WITHOUT MENTIONING HIM?!
3. One actor that you look up to and why
Banjo Ginga, perhaps expectedly~ How that man managed to voice both CS and Nightmare in the anime when they’re at least 50 octaves apart in vocal range is a miraculous thing
4. One actress that you look up to and why
Makiko Ohmoto. She’s a lowkey woman of a thousand voices in the series, and the mini-drama with Susie and Sectonia proves she could seriously do a full blown voice OVA with just her playing all those personalities spot on. Not sure if Kirby should go fully voiced in the future, but hell if he hasn’t proved it can be done!
5. Favourite episode from any show you watch? (Or just an episode you love)
Favourite ep of the anime probably still hands down the quiz episode. Troll on, based salesguy
8. Name 3 OTPs
none really stand out to me in Kirby, aside from friendships. Does the Susie/CS FoeTP count?
9. One character you have a crush on
none
10. One of your favourite fandoms to be in and why?
Even though this be a general one, Kirby has legit been the best for me all these years. You just can’t go wrong with Kirby, and pretty much everyone who loves Kirby is chill and friendly.
11. Describe (insert show here) in three words
Kirby = Eat the nightmares
15. If you were a fictional character in (insert universe here) what would you probably be doing and what life do you think you would have?
lol, if I lived in Kirby’s world, I’d be chillaxin for the rest of my life in Dream Land, enjoying the food and the sights. Sure, place gets frequently attacked and invaded by Eldritch Abominations but Kirby always pulls through doesn’t he?
16. Who do you think is a misunderstood character?
Hmm… I think ‘misunderstood’ in terms of ‘people tend to not portray them right’ (rather than ‘poor misunderstood baby’) would have to be… eh, maybe Dark Matter? I’m not against it but sometimes people seem to be quick to assume Dark Matter is like the ultimate source of evil in the Kirby universe, whereas I believe it’s just one of many evil beings that exist - albeit a powerful one. Maybe it’s just because Dark Matter has appeared more than once in the series, giving it an edge over most of the other bosses. I mean there’s a point where people going “X must be Dark Matter/Zero’s reincarnation because look!!! EYEBALL!!!1!” is basically becoming a bit of a meme.
17. Which character do you wish you were siblings/best friends/dating with?
I wish I could adopt Kirby as a sibling/friend. How could you not want that?!
19. What are three things you’ve learned from one of the shows you watch?
damn this is a little deep… But it’s true Kirby has really been an influence on my life in general since I first encountered it. If I have to say something, I’ll probably say:
[1] Being kind and gentle with others goes a long way (Kirby’s ‘All-Loving Hero’ status inspired this)[2] Cute, innocent and simple things should never be equated with weakness and childishness (The Kirby franchise in a nutshell)[3] There’s always going to be bad in the world as well as good, but we can always choose to punch it in the eye
20. If you could be a writer for any show you wish, how might you develop the plot/characters?
If I was a writer on Kirby, especially the anime, y’all know what the hell I’d be up to - BRING BACK CS/KEEP HIM ALIVE GOD FFUCKING DAMMINT!!!
Though the show had a good run, I wouldn’t mind a reboot or a comeback season. Can’t quite decide which would be nicer:
On the one hand, it would be cool seeing a sort of ‘X years later’ after the original ending with all the familiar anime cast back at it and a little older, a chance to introduce other game characters and elements in and maybe even play with adapting in a few of the game’s plots and devices.
On the other hand, reworking the original anime by expanding more into the GSA/Nightmare war and fleshing out some of the characters (like Silica & Knuckle Joe, the vets of the war, hell even those epic one-offs like Rona) as well as still having the chance to introduce game elements/characters into the anime universe.
I’m honestly easy either way, i would love to make either take happen.
Just as long as Customer Service also makes it back in, of course.
21. What’s one of your favourite quotes from a show you watch?
I rather like Sectonia’s establishing monologue during her first appearance. It’s just so… fitting. It’s cold and grand and tells you all about her and her motivation - particularly when she goes “My beauty rivals the divine… And my power shall crush all you hold dear!”
22. Favourite type of AU?
*crawls up slowly and leans very close to your ear* AN AU WHERE CUSTOMER SERVICE LIVES.
23. Write a brief headcanon for one of your OTPs
For the Susie/CS enemy ‘ship’: Both of them love finding ways to get the other’s personal emails/numbers and spamming passive aggressive messages or taunts. No matter how much encryption or changes of details either of them employs, the other always finds their way in.
25. Why do you love the shows you watch/books you read/fandoms you’re in?
What’s not to love about Kirby? Everything Kirby touches turns gold, and honestly the franchise can do just about anything and pull it off to a good level (even the slight duds still had their perks).
I particularly I love how the Kirby games are making this rich fantasy/sci-fi universe of their own - You can have the cute and fluffy and whimsical existing next to some pretty horrific shit, magic and tech working together like nbd, and in the recent games they’ve been hiding some really deep lore and feels under all the adorableness.
As for the anime, it’s still one of my favourite things to watch whenever. It’s like a favourite treasured childhood snack you can keep going back to and smile over, even despite its little hiccups and dated elements. It’s just innocent fun, and actually had a decent plot at times and even interesting characters, all which left room for expansion and the imagination while being enough as it was.

Spring 2018 Preview
I can’t believe a new season starts in a week already... heres the shows.
1. Comic Girls: KIRARA ANIME BOIS. Do I even need to say more than that? The girls look absolutely adorable, the animation looks on point, and although the director is a debutante he's being backed up by an impressive quartet of writers including Takahashi Natsuko, Yokote Michiko, Hanada Jukki and Machida Touko. Oh yeah, it's also got a bunch of hot channees in addition to the cute schoolgirls. You can't go wrong with this one.
2. Amanchu! ~Advance~: Satojun is back at it again with the silly hiragana subtitles for sequels. The masters of healing are back again for a sequel to what was one of my favorite shows of 2016. More Teko, more of that sexy Itou Shizuka-voiced teacher, and more relaxing feels. This is exactly what we need to fill the Yurucamp-shaped holes in our hearts.
3. Alice or Alice: There are a lot of things that make me excited about this show. Obviously the cast is one: Ayaneru plays the main character, and we got Natsunee and Oonishi in there too. The director is Kobayashi Kousuke, an alumnus of the Pretty Rhythm series who was very heavily involved in Pripara, which you may know is the best anime ever made. And then there's the aesthetic: everything from the character designs to the title logo make this look and feel like a harem anime from 15 or so years ago, which is absolutely my jam. Pretty hyped for this one.
4. Sword Art Online Alternative Gungale Online: One of the weirder things to happen over the past year-ish is that I've become an unabashed SAO fanboy. The shows are just good, y'all. So you can imagine how I feel about a new show set in the SAO universe written by the author of Kino no Tabi, a show I just put in my top five of the last year, and with characters by Kuroboshi Kouhaku (also of Kino) who is the utmost hotness right now. Hopefully this will be more than enough to tide us over while we wait for SAO3 to arrive.
5. Waka-Okami wa Shougakusei: This looks like a kids anime at first glance, and, well, it is. It's based on a series of popular children's books, but they've really gone all out with the production values based on the PVs (Madhouse producing) and it looks immensely charming. Some of the best anime are childrens' stories, so I'm quietly excited about this one.
6. Hinamatsuri: This is shaping up to be one of the weirder shows of the coming season, and it looks great. From the look of the PVs, feel. are going even more all-out than they usually do with the visuals, and it also looks genuinely funny. Plus it's got a cute loli. Should be good.
7. Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu Die Neue These: It's finally here. Obviously I've heard nothing but good things about the original series, but I'm never going to have the motivation to go back and watch something so old, long and difficult, so hopefully this new anime has got me covered. I'm sure there will be plenty of discourse about it; I just hope it's decent.
8. Tada-kun wa Koi wo Shinai: Somehow, we've still never gotten a sequel to the wonderful Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, but this show brings together the chief staff of that show for a new romantic comedy anime at Douga Koubou. With that pedigree (they even got the same guy who did the OP song for Nozaki) there's definitely reason to be optimistic about this one. Not to mention it's got cute gaijin girls and an imouto voiced by Inosuke.
9. PERSONA5 the Animation: I think I'm going to give up any ridiculous illusions I have of actually playing the game any time soon and just watch this. It's the only realistic way I'll get to see dat Kawakami-sensei and Takemi-sensei. You know I'm all about the channees right now, and man, does P5 have some good ass channees. The anime is actually being directed by Ishihama Masashi, the man who did Shinsekai Yori and literally hasn't done another TV anime since, so that's pretty exciting. Obviously, a lot Shinsekai Yori's success is because of the material adapted, but if you can make a masterpiece like that you've got to have some kind of talent.
10. Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii: CUTE CHANNEE ALERT WEEWOO WEEWOO WEEWOO. I'm all up ons this. Is there anything better than cute OLs? ...Man, things sure have changed around here. Also, that title is just mean when it's literally an anime about otaku having romances. SOME OF US OUT HERE ARE LONELY
11. Last Period -Owarinaki Rasen no Monogatari-: Has there been a good social game anime yet? I guess Schoolgirl Strikers was alright, in that I actually managed to finish that one, but most of these turn out to be bad. I hope Last Period can be the one to buck the trend and be truly good, because I love the silly light-fantasy tone that it looks like it's going for. Wisemen for best girls. There's tons of cute girls with great designs (the one thing you can always count on social games for) and it'd be a shame for them to go to waste like so many before them.
12. Hisone to Masotan: I got really excited when I saw this because it looked like a cute anime about fighter planes. Instead it looks like it's a cute anime about fighter... dragons. What a ripoff. I wanted the planes. My aviation-nerd pouting aside I'm sure it will still be adorable JSDF propaganda. I just really wanted the planes.
13. Golden Kamuy: It's some kind of weird serendipity that I'm studying the Ainu for school this semester and now we get an anime explicitly about the Ainu. Period anime are pretty cool (the Russo-Japanese War isn't a setting explored in much visual media at all), the premise sounds cool, and I really like the look of the Ainu girl. Plus, how often do we get Ainu culture actually presented in anime? Remains to be seen how well it's done, but it's pretty neat.
14. Uma Musume Pretty Derby: Aw yeah. If only Jug was around to see the horse girls. I have no reason to doubt that this will be great fun, especially since it has the financial backing of Cygames, who have more money than God. Just hopefully we don’t have to see any of the cute girls get put down after breaking a leg.
15. Lostorage conflated WIXOSS: Somehow the WIXOSS anime series is still going. selector is still one of my favorite shows in recent memory, but Lostorage was complete spaghetti compared to it, so there's nowhere to go from here but up, right? This new series promises to bring back the characters from selector, which gives me mixed feelings. I don't want them to just play off nostalgia for the old show, but I'm also kinda excited to see Yuzuki and Tama again. I guess we'll see what happens. Maybe a new director will shake things up for the better.
16. 3D Kanojo Real Girl: Man, who wants a 3D girlfriend? Can your real life girlfriend be considered 3D if you're living in a 2D world? This stuff always leaves me conflicted. I'm down for some Serizawa Yuu-voiced heroine, and the always-capable Akao Deko is writing the screen adaptation, so it might be good.
17. Mahou Shoujo Ore: Oh god. I'm pretty sure I saw clippings from the manga of this a while back. It's a mahou shoujo where the girls transform into buff dudes in magical girl outfits for some reason. It can't be a coincidence that the protagonist is named "Uno" and is voiced by Oohashi Ayaka. If this show is even half as amazing as Fantasista Doll it'll be a great success.
18. A.I.C.O. Incarnation: There are a few Netflix-funded series this season but most of them don't look especially interesting. This one looks alright, but it's using the stupid Netflix bulk release model so I guess I'm waiting until April to start it despite all the episodes being out already. It looks like it could be a cool science fiction show, and I like the Naruko Hanaharu character designs.
19. LOST SONG: So this is that Suzuki Konomi promotional vehicle... From the PV, it doesn't look great, but I am a big fan of Konomin's singing so I guess I'll have to check out at least an episode. I just doubt her ability to act as well as she can sing.
20. Caligula: Strangely, this show does not seem to be about the son of Germanicus and Agrippina the Elder who ruled as Roman emperor from 37 to 41. I actually have no idea what it's about. Something about idols. But some of the character designs look pretty good, especially that blonde channee, so it's a maybe from me.
21. High School DxD HERO: It's baaaack. The show I watched three seasons of for Ayaneru that gave me almost no Ayaneru is back to continue to refuse to give me Ayaneru, probably. But hey, I like channees now anyway, so I may as well keep watching out of tradition if nothing else. I just hope Gaspar is like, actually in it this time...
22. Omae wa Mada Gunma wo Shiranai: This is an anime to promote Gunma... I guess? It definitely doesn't look like your typical local promotion anime... Apparently Gunma is a totalitarian state in this world. The green-haired girl played by Ucchii looks pretty good so I'll check it out.
23. Akkun to Kanojo: SUPER tsundere love comedy? Even regular tsundere is good. Unfortunately it's the dude who is tsundere in this one which isn't the thing I want. But the girls still look pretty cute so I'll definitely be giving it a look.
24. Mahou Shoujo Site: Uh oh, it's dark magical girls. There's nothing wrong with the concept per se but works like this often end up being grimdark for grimdark's sake (see: Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku) so it makes me worried. This one looks like someone tried to mix Madoka and Jigoku Shoujo. It should be good for a laugh if nothing else.
25. Kiratto Puri Chan: Well, here we are. This is what they killed Pripara for. So who did they get to succeed the comedic savant Moriwaki Makoto? Well, it's a guy without a whole lot of directorial experience: Hiroshi Ikehata. What he has directed have been some incredibly charming shows, including the underrated Akiba's Trip anime and Sore ga Seiyuu. The main writing credit goes to Hyoudou Kazuho, who has worked with Hiroshi on all of his directorial projects but doesn't have any especially interesting work to his name. The biggest chance this has to be even marginally worthy as a successor to Pripara is if they continue to draw on the extended family of Pretty series creators, like Pripara did to a large extent. With Moriwaki's steady hand removed, I don't have high hopes, but if they killed Pripara for a show that's not even decent I am going to be upset.
26. Aikatsu Friends!: So Stars is ending and a new generation of Aikatsu is here as well. I can't let this pass unnoticed because Kido-chan is pegged to be one of the new Aikatsu leads and I'm always thirsty for new Kido-chan anime. I didn't really like Stars, so I hope this new one is more on the silly side, like joji anime really should be.
27. Cutie Honey Universe: Rember Cutie Honey? I mean, I don't, but a lot of people do. Apparently it's the 50th anniversary of Nagai Gou's venerable battle girl series, so they're doing a revival of it. I really dig the neo-retro art style going on here, and the cast is absolutely star-studded (our current darling, Kurosawa Tomoyo, is included among the likes of Hanazawa Kana, Tamura Yukari, Horie Yui and Kugimiya Rie) so I just might check it out.
28. Steins;Gate Zero: I really don't know if I want to watch this. Steins;Gate wasn't the worst of the semicolon anime; in fact, the first half of the series was greatly enjoyable, but I don't think I need to retread the infamous "shooting of the moeblob" that led to the godawful second half. It's got Christina, I guess. I just really don't know if I can subject myself to Okabe again.
29. Megalobox: This looks technically amazing, I just don't know if I'm interested in it. Will probably wait to hear other people's opinions before I check it out, if I ever do.
30. Gegege no Kitarou: I don't think I'll actually watch this, but the latest version of the classic children's anime has been getting some attention because the character designs for the female characters are, how you say, Extremely Good. They're definitely good enough that I'm tempted to check it out. Dat Nekomusume...
31. Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory: It really happened. I'm including this as the highest-profile show I definitely won't be watching. I haven't seen any of the other FMP anime, so it would be stupid to try and jump in here. The subtitle being abbreviated "IV" (for season 4) is very cute though.
I don’t know how to rank shorts so heres those:
Tachibanakan To Lie Anguru: It's time for another Yuri Hime anime! All you need to know about how hype I am for this show is the tagline: 'The harem manga protagonist is a girl!?' Tsuda Minami is once again going to have to be hard gay, this time with five different girls apparently. I'm especially looking forward to the Mikakoshi-voiced blonde. Unfortunately, being a Creators in Pack anime, it's a short...
Fumikiri Jikan: This is a five minute anime but I absolutely love the premise: girls wait at a train crossing. That's it. You gotta love manga and anime sometimes.

Sentai Filmworks Licenses Huge List of Anime

HOUSTON, TX, September 25, 2017 – Sentai Filmworks is proud to announce its newest addition to the Fall 2017 anime simulcast season: UQ HOLDER!, a shonen action series based on the manga by Ken Akamatsu (Love Hina, Negima!). The series will be available on Anime Strike with Amazon Channels—a service that gives Prime members the ability to watch over 100 on-demand channels—no cable required, cancel anytime, and no additional apps to download.

Though his wounds should have been fatal, Tōta not only survives, he learns the reason behind his limited memories – Yukihime is actually a sorceress and 700-year-old vampire who saved his life two years ago by making him a vampire as well. With his powers awakened, Tōta’s life will only get more interesting when he joins a secret society for outcasts and fellow immortals: UQ Holder.

Dare to tread into Hell for a second time with Sentai Filmworks’ newest addition to the Fall 2017 simulcast lineup: Hozuki’s Coolheadedness 2.
The second season of the supernatural comedy Hozuki’s Coolheadedness thrusts viewers back into Eternal Hell! Just as in this life, the afterlife needs a calm troubleshooter to deal with the bureaucratic headaches that come from keeping things in order. After all, Lord Enma is a very busy (and kind of incompetent) overlord, and he needs the help of his most charismatic shadow hero to keep Hell from calling into chaos. Enter Hozuki: a cool and collected demon who’s badly in need of a vacation.
Kazuhiro Yoneda (Kabukibu!, Yona of the Dawn, Hozuki’s Coolheadedness OAV 2) acts as director for the second season. Midori Gotou (Clean Freak! Aoyama-kun), who was in charge of script writing for the first season, returns for the same role. Studio DEEN (Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto, Rurouni Kenshin) will handle animation production for the second season.
Hozuki’s Coolheadness 2 is scheduled for an October 2017 broadcast in Japan. It will soon be available to stream on select digital outlets for the Fall 2017 simulcast season, with a home video release to follow.
Sentai Filmworks is proud to welcome back Motz, Beet-san, Cho-chan, and the rest of our favorite musical masters in ClassicaLoid 2!
The second season of the slapstick comedy ClassicaLoid reunites normal high school girl Kanae with her least favorite house guests. There’s Beet-san (otherwise known as Ludwig van Beethoven) and free-spirited Motz (WolfgangAmadeus Mozart), as well as fellow squatters Chopin, Liszt, and Schubert. These maestros have already proven they have the skill to save the world with their explosive melodies called “Musik,” but with the addition of two new Classicaloids  – Richard Wagner and Antonin Dvorak – Kanae is sure to be at her wits’ end. What new realities will these Classicaloids compose with their Musik?
Kei Umabiki takes over as director for the second season ClassicaLoid. First season director Yoichi Fujita will act as story supervisor, with Michihiro Tsuchiya returning for series composition. The show was created by NHK & BN Pictures..
The person involved with the music for works like Final Fantasy X and more, Masashi Hamauzu, is in charge of BGM creation, with “mujik” contributions by Japanese electronic producers and rock musicians, including Tomoyasu Hotei (Transformers Live Action), Daisuke Asakura (producer of T.M. Revolution), Tsunku (composer and lyricist for Morning Musume), and MTV Video Music Award nominee tofubeats. ClassicaLoid 2 proudly adds two additions to the musical staff: Chisato (from rock band, Penicillin) and Kouchi Tsutaya (music producer of groups like Ikimono-gakari and more).
ClassicaLoid 2 is scheduled for an October 2017 broadcast in Japan. It will soon be available to stream on select digital outlets for the Fall 2017 simulcast season, with a home video release to follow.
Sentai Filmworks’ announced its newest acquisition for the Fall 2017 season: My Girlfriend is Shobitch. The series will soon be available to stream in the U.S. on Anime Strike, the curated on-demand anime subscription from Amazon Channels.
When high school student Haruka Shinozaki confesses his feelings to the beautiful and aloof class representative, Akiho Kosaka, the last thing he expected was for her to say “yes.” Like everything else in her diligent life, Kosaka takes dating quite seriously. In an effort to be a good girlfriend, Kosaka decides to meticulously study (and bluntly suggest) all manner of ways to keep Shinozaki sexually satisfied… in the theoretical sense, that is. This innocently lewd relationship is only just beginning!
Animation production for the series will be helmed by diomedea (Aho-Girl, Girlish Number, Squid Girl) and Studio Blanc. Nobuyoshi Nagayama directs the series, with Hideki Shirane (Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?) in charge of series composition.
My Girlfriend is Shobitch is scheduled for an October 2017 release in Japan. It will soon be available to stream on Anime Strike for $4.99 per month after a 7-day free trial, and available in non-US territories through select digital outlets for the Fall 2017 simulcast season, with a home video release to follow.

Eita Izumi has come back to his hometown after four years and encounters some unlikely acquaintances: Haruto Soma, Eita’s childhood friend; Ena Komiya, the photography student who witnesses Eita and Haruto’s reunion; Mio Natsume, whose feelings for her middle school crush still linger; and Hazuki Morikawa, a girl who seems uninterested in romantic relationships. When the paths of these five cross, their fates turn in a way none of them could have seen coming.
The series will be helmed by Atsushi Kobayashi in his directorial debut, with scripts by Hajime Kamoshida and original character design by Kiseki Himura. Animation production will be handled by PINE JAM (GAMERS!, Mahou Shoujo Nante Mouiidesukara).
Just Because! will soon be available to stream on Anime Strike for $4.99 per month after a 7-day free trial, and available to non-US territories through select digital outlets for the October 2017 simulcast season, with a home video release to follow.
