Hob is a superlative thief.

He sometimes breaks into museums or other high security places just because he can (breaking into the Geneva Freeport was very cool ~ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geneva_Freeport ~ he didn’t even steal anything!)

Anyway he heard through his favorite unsavory circles, that Roderick Burgess had acquired some awesome priceless "magical" thing a little while ago. Well Hob is nothing if not curious.

Besides, Roderick Burgess is an actively horrible person, stealing from him would be a distinct pleasure. Hob hadn't even decided he was going to steal whatever the thing was, but he was going to take a look,,,,,and if it was less magical and more "kill the world" then he would grab it and drop it off with the most trust worthy government type he knew. And Hob honestly expects it's a kill the world thing, since you know magic is not real.

Hob was NOT expecting a person, person-shaped thing, pissed elder god thing, enclosed in glass and iron. How a douchebag like Roderick Burgess was able to trap and contain an elemental force of the universe Hob did not care to find out, but he knew he couldn't leave it in Burgess's "care."

Should Hob be finding seething man-shaped thing beautiful; stealing things tends to get Hob hot, sure, but he doesn't think it's ever been quite like this. Hob hopes he gets out of this mostly still sane.

OOO this is a super fun idea!!! I just think it would be really fun if Hob is just doing crime for fun and because he finds it kinda... hot. He's absolutely not freeing Dream for altruistic reasons, no way... he's just got a reputation to maintain when it comes to thievery!

Dream is less than thrilled to see yet another human coming up to his cage, but this time... its different. There's a small tool which cuts a small circular hole in the glass and lets the air come rushing in. Hob also smudges the binding circle (in fact, he upends a bottle of water to wash away the paint completely). And with that, Dream can use the rushing return of his powers to explode out of the glass orb.

He's obviously glad to be out, but he realises immediately that his tools have been stolen and dispersed. Which is when Hob pipes up again, and offers his assistance in recovering them. Who better to track down stolen goods, than a thief? By the time Dream reluctantly accompanies Hob back to his car, leaving the mansion and its occupants behind in eternal sleep, Hob has already tracked down the bag of sand via ebay.

Dream is still skeptical, but when Hob accompanies him to hell and somehow manages to pinch the helm from right under the demon's nose... he starts to think that it might be worth keeping this annoying human around for a while longer. Even Matthew is impressed. Especially when they all make it out of hell in one piece, and nobody even has to play the oldest game.

The ruby is obviously problematic and Dream almost forbids Hob from coming with him at all. But Hob is adamant that he always finishes up his jobs. He heads to the diner with Dream, just about resists the urge to go crazy and rob everyone in the place. In the end Dream doesn't need his help, but it's kind of nice to be just hanging out anyway. Obviously there could be nicer circumstances for a date, but Hob is kind of feeling some kinda way about this particular elemental force...

And Dream is obviously struggling with the events of his imprisonment, but having Hob around is a nice distraction. Even if he keeps finding Hob’s hand rifling through his coat pocket ("how BIG is that pocket?! I got my whole arm inside!" "It contains a multitude of unknown universes. Keep your fingers to yourself.")

Hob settles for holding Dream’s hand instead. Which is even better, actually.

Dusk Belladonna is the daughter Blake and Jaune which means she is also the daughter of both human and Faunus. In her timeline Human and Faunus achieved true equality and mutual respect with one another. It was not easy and although Dusk herself does not know the sacrifice needed to achieve it, even she knows that it's something to be cherished and protected. Quiet, reserved and preferring the company of close associates. She is still expected to one day lead Menagerie and all of Faunuskind. A decision that she is also unaware of. But her parents are against it. Instead wanting her to enjoy her childhood for as long as she can before the fated day.

Scarlett like Ruby is both a powerful fighter and a genius weapon inventor. Her weapon is the Crescent Rose MK. 20. A Scythe, Voulge, grenade launcher, assault riffle and sniper rifle combination weapon. In practice such a weapon should not be able to work but she and Ruby managed to made it work. This essentially turns her into a one woman army. But even though she’s a formidable warrior she still not yet able to beat her older brother Vermillion in a fight. Something which annoys her.

Victor Arc (formerly a Schnee)

Age: 20.

Semblance: Glyph. (Has been shown able to summon a small army worth of Grimm.)

Character Desc:

Victor Schnee or now known as Victor Arc was once a former Scion of the Schnee Household. Is the son of Jaune Arc and although he hates to admit it, he is also the son of Weiss Schnee. In his timeline the world is broken in every sense of the word. In his world. War has engulfed Remnant. And the scale of destruction is beyond comprehension. Continents shattered, sea boiled over, even the very air turned against you, All courtesy of the Superweapon created by the SDC. Of course many tried to stop the war from happening and all failed, Even Jaune Schnee died trying to stop it. His dead however is proven to be the catalyst for the tragedy. After his death something broke inside of Weiss. Despaired and Enraged by her husband’s death. Weiss reorganized the Kingdom of Atlas into the Atlesian Empire and declared war on everyone. With Victor serving as her right hand man. Working under her Victor is responsible for many of the Empire’s victory and her atrocity. He himself is directly responsible for numerous warcrimes and even genocide against the Faunus. Victor is also credited for killing Ruby Rose and for capturing Blake. Back home in Atlas he was hailed as hero for this feats. It’s only until much later that he regretted his action. And came to hate his own mother so far as to wanting her dead. While she's the one that broke the world, he still blame himself for helping her doing it.

Aurum Arc

Age: 30-40.

Semblance: Ignite. (He is able to heat up the surface of any object he touch. If you seen the hot knife video on YouTube it’s pretty much like that.)

Weapon: Prominence Flame. (A Greatsword of the big-ass variety.)

Favorite foods: Homecooked meal. (he ain’t picky.)

Likes: Justice, protecting innocents, helping people.

Dislikes: Injustice, Villain, Laziness.

Character Desc:

As the oldest of the 12 sibling, Aurum is also born the weakest among his siblings. Born prematurely many did not expect him to survive childhood. But he refused to give up. Motivated by stories of warriors of old and the story of his father. He continues pushing his limit. And to the surprise of everyone he not only survive past childhood but he actually starts growing taller and stronger compared to other children his age. So strong in fact that in the age of 15 he managed to kill a Dragon Grimm. By the age of 17 he joined the Arc Knights. And in the age 20 rose through the rank and become the youngest captain of the group. A rank that he still hold to this day. Despite his achievement however he still found himself lacking behind his father and he made a promise that he will surpass the Grandmaster, Jaune Arc himself.

Day 24: Ruby Dandridge (1900 - 1987)

Ruby Dandridge was an African American actress best known for her roles on the radio shows Amos 'n' Andy and Judy Canova Show. She is recognizable for her performance in the films Dead Reckoning (1947) and A Hole in the Head (1959).

She was the mother of actresses Vivian Dandridge and Dorothy Dandridge, the latter of whom was an Academy Award nominee.

Dandridge was a bisexual woman. After her divorce from her daughters' father, she entered a relationship with a female companion, Geneva Williams. Dorothy Dandridge later revealed that Williams was a harsh disciplinarian and rather abusive towards the children.

Okay! Thoughts on The Legend of Ruby Sunday!

Note to self: some time this week, watch Pyramids of Mars.

Since it's a penultimate season finale, let's do this as some questions:

The anagrams. The Doctor says it was an anagram, just not the right one, ie. Sue Tech = Sutekh. Except that's not an actual anagram - there's no K in 'Susan Triad Technology', and 'S Triad' is still an anagram of TARDIS. So yes, Susan was a symbol of Sutekh's return, but could she be something else as well? Maybe not necessarily Susan, the Doctor's granddaughter, but someone trying to warn the Doctor about what's happening, maybe? Or is she Sutekh messing with the Doctor by seeding a Mystery Woman all through time and space, like a living Bad Wolf message, just to lure him back to UNIT?

What's going on with Mrs Flood? All we get is her being menacing towards poor Cherry and warning about a storm! Clearly something, yes, but what?

What's going on with Carla? She's the one who names the distortion as 'the Beast' before anyone else.

What's going on with Ruby's mother? She just… faded away from the recording. Is the figure Ruby's mother? We know she took baby Ruby to the church, but does that necessarily mean she's the one who gave birth to her or has anything to do with Ruby's origins? Was she pointing at the Doctor, or was she pointing at Sutekh manifesting behind him? Who actually is Ruby? Is she connected with Sutekh in some way, or another part of the Pantheon? Maybe a child or grandchild of Sutekh? Does she have something to do with the distortion?

Relatedly, why was the image of the TARDIS surrounded by the distortion in the recording? Time is all weird at the church, does the Doctor end up having to go back (or hell, Sutekh hijacking the TARDIS for its own purposes) and, I don't know, breaking time, thus allowing Sutekh into the world? Is Ruby's whole mystery also linked with the Bad Wolf-style luring the Doctor back, maybe by trying to get him to open the Time Window?

Why did the TARDIS grumble when Rogue came in? Was it just that she was already in the process of being possessed and it was an ongoing thing, or is he tied to it too?

Staffing changes at UNIT: where did Shirley go? :( (Oh, apparently she's currently stationed in Geneva, okay.) Who dressed that poor kid? Glad that Donna is confirmed to work at UNIT, but isn't Rose (hi sweetie! You're doing great!) only sixteen? OTOH, Morris is only thirteen… and who the hell let someone named H Arbringer into a UNIT control room, seriously? XD;;

No, seriously, how did they instantaneously catch 'S TRIAD' = 'TARDIS' but didn't get warning signs from literally H Arbringer?

The Trickster was explicitly described as the God of Traps, and Morris kept mentioning the possibility of it being a trap rising. Any connection?

But really, the whole Susan Triad thing? "There's always a twist in the end!" But legit if Susan Triad isn't related to Susan the Doctor's granddaughter, that's goddamn hilarious. Maserati 5000 GT Frua  

Each of the 34 examples of the Maserati 5000 GT is a storybook in its own right. The first of these exotic beasts was commissioned by the Shah of Persia (now Iran), who pined for a 450S (nine made, terminated when Maserati left racing). The road-going 3500 GT was too common to satisfy his highness but held promise if properly modified. The Shah paid Maserati to strengthen the chassis and suspension of a 3500 to accept a 4.9 liter V8 derived from the 450S. The body was built by Carrozzeria Touring, the car was painted dark blue, and the final result was shipped to the Shah. A second car was sent to South African millionaire Basil Read. Once the Shah purchased his car, other royals clamored for their own copies. Maserati increased the 5000’s engine displacement slightly, added fuel injection, and upgraded to a five-speed ZF transmission, sending several more cars to various coachbuilders (eight in all) at the behest of their celebrity buyers. These included Karim Aga Khan, Briggs Cunningham, and Gianni Agnelli. Here at Kidston is the first of three Frua-bodied Maserati 5000 GTs, a 1962 example. Initially painted gold, and swanned around to shows in Geneva, Paris, and Italy by the factory, it was finally repainted a deep metallic red in 1963, assigned a fresh chassis number, and sold as a new car.

Eventually, this example was given to King Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud during his exile in Egypt – a gift from his son. King Saud was exiled from his exile (to Athens this time), and the car was impounded by the Egyptian government for decades. Sold a few times around the year 2000, the car was refurbished during a four-year period and shown in its original gold livery. Its most recent owner, preferring the ruby shade of its former life, had it repainted yet again, enjoyed it for ten years.

Ok here's a big question: which theme is the real Core of the series? like if you had to ignore everything else what do you think onk is About

OHH ANON THIS ONE IS THE JUICY STUFF!!!!!

I think the combo of OnK being ongoing and having so many intersecting Things keeps me from confidently nailing down One Singular Thing it wants to say, but I also think that if you really boil down all the set dressing to its Deepest Flavor Profile (i am fined by the geneva convention for torturing metaphors), Oshi no Ko is ultimately about trauma and abandonment.

That's a pretty broad topic but any other way I tried to specify it left too many things I think are essential to the series by the wayside. The entertainment industry commentary is extremely important in terms of unifying everyone's stories and providing context to them, but the most intense, long lasting and prominent trauma we see characters deal with are not directly a result of the entertainment industry but are because of parental abuse and abandonment – Ai, Ruby and Kana are all daughters of toxic mothers who inflicted varying degrees of emotional abuse (and in Ai's case, severe physical abuse) on their children before abandoning them and the lasting damage runs through all of them like fault lines.

Also under the umbrella of abandonment, I think, is the trauma of being failed and neglected by systems that should have protected you. Ai's entire tragedy as a character is the degree to which she was failed at every step of the way by every system that should have protected her. She was spat out of the care system half formed at age fifteen, catastrophically underprepared to such a degree that her exploitation at the ends of the idol industry is not even in the top ten of the worst things that could have happened to her as a result.

Aqua, too, is failed by the system - he was so deeply traumatized as a child that this singular trauma is threatening to be the thing that kills him fifteen years later and nobody has stepped in to intervene and give him the care he needs and the entertainment industry is a perfect boiling pot for him to comfortably sit and allow himself to be cooked to death in.

Finally and perhaps most importantly: Hikaru Kamiki is also a victim. In fact, I would say Hikaru Kamiki's victimization is the singular foundational point on which the story's entire ongoing tragedy sits. This is not the post for me to talk in detail about what was done to him, but the undeniable fact is that he was horrendously victimized in a way I don't have words strong enough to condemn and not only did nobody ever help him, but the person who abused him faced no punishment and happily went about her life.

Nobody gets out of life undamaged.

That said, while the series is at its core about things that break you, I think it also has an extremely hopeful and ultimately uplifting perspective on what it means to carry trauma. I said as much in the previous ask but it bears repeating because I think it serves as the foundation for much of what OnK is saying about trauma: everyone has damage. nobody gets out of life clean and pure. but because everyone has damage, you are not alone or uniquely broken. you can be healed. but you can't do it alone.

Again and again in Oshi no Ko, we see characters who are at absolute rock bottom because of trauma able to pull themselves out of the hole thanks to the love and support given to them by the people around them. Oshi no Ko posits connection, community and companionship as the ultimate path to salvation for anyone who feels broken beyond repair and it promises them that even if it's a lie now, if they reach out and try, if they let themselves open their hearts and let other people surprise them, then that lie of love might be able to make itself true. But if you never try, then you'll never know.

The Rouge Rogue Riot

Rudy’s short, baby faced, and looks (and acts) like he wandered off the set of a shonen manga. He’s hyperactive, exuberant, and friendly. He’s the only person who takes Violet’s ideas completely seriously, is his brother J.’s main protector, and is just an all around sweetheart.

Unless he’s not.

As easy as Rudy is to get along with, he’s just as easy to piss off. The little guy’s sporting a literal hair-trigger temper, and just because he’s short doesn’t mean he can’t or won’t tear you to ribbons if you cross him. He’s deceptively smart, too, and a crack shot. Ever been stabbed by a stray anime hair? Luckily, his keyboard of berserk buttons are easily avoided. Honestly, you’d have to be actively trying to set him off at this point, but you wouldn’t do that, right?

But turning trees to wood chips isn’t the only thing that mane of his is good for. Rudy takes exceptionally great pride in his appearance. Something of a dandy, he spends hours at a time maintaining his looks. After all, a cartoon’s always being watched. Why not look your best?

Fun Facts

Rudy’s name is a portmanteau of “red”, “ruby”, and “ruddy”.

Rudy’s surname “Razbry” is derived from “raspberry”, fitting his and J.’s color schemes.

Rudy, as seen above, differs the least in his first prototype design of the Primary Characters, and his personality is largely unchanged, aside from being more childish. His earliest designs after the one pictured gave him pinkish skin and eyes that didn’t protrude from his face. His second design was straight-up bubblegum pink, even though his clothes were still red.

Rudy is the unofficial mascot of It’s Color Theory, befitting of the red guy.

Rudy’s tooth gap and freckles appear in every prototype of his design.

Rudy, despite not being the shortest person in Dullsville, ICT, or even the Primary Characters (Olaf the mouse, Sylvester the alien, and Chloe respectively), is often singled out for his short height.

Rudy and Peony (formerly Rosie) were initially envisioned as twins. J. effectively took her place.

Rudy is the older Razbry brother.

Rudy has no relation to Ruby, the guitarist of the Gem Tones, aside from them both being red, spiky, cute, and angry. Many a dyslexic mailperson has made this mistake.

Rudy is the only Primary Character to use the default sphere eyes. Angie has orange sclerae and only partial outlines. Gordon has black bead eyes. Chloe has square pupils. J’s eyes, on the rare occasions they are visible, are solid white. Violet’s pupils are vertical. 

Rudy is the only male red type Drewman of Season One, the other three being Peony, Geneva, and Crimson.

Rudy is very affectionate and touchy-feely, and despite his usual indignation towards being patronized for his stature, he appreciates being patted on the head. Unfortunately, he really doesn’t appreciate his hair being messed up. You see his dilemma?
