"If Kamala wins, only death and destruction await because she is the candidate of endless wars,” declaimed Donald Trump at a rally in Michigan, on the Friday before the election. “I am the candidate of peace.” In a typically ridiculous rhetorical flourish, Trump added: “I am peace.” Nevertheless, despite the ridiculousness, the president-elect in recent weeks succeeded in connecting with plenty of of anti-war voters tired of the United States’ “forever wars”. He went to Dearborn, the “capital” of Arab America, attacked Kamala Harris for campaigning with the pro-war Cheneys, and came away with an endorsement from a local imam who called him the “peace” candidate. In fact, I have lost count of the number of leftists who have told me in recent months: “Trump didn’t start any new wars.” Sorry, what? Trump spent his four years in the White House escalating every single conflict that he inherited from Barack Obama. Many have forgotten that Trump bombed the Assad government in Syria twice; dropped the “mother of all bombs” on Afghanistan; illegally assassinated Iranian general Qasem Soleimani on Iraqi soil; armed Saudi Arabia’s genocide in Yemen; and made John Bolton his national security adviser. Few are even aware that Trump launched more drone strikes in his first two years in office than Obama, dubbed “the drone president”, did across eight years in office. But this time, we were told, it would be different. This time Trump meant it. No more war! No more neocons! Some took heart from Trump’s very public rejection of arch-hawks Mike Pompeo and Nikki Haley. Others signal-boosted efforts by RFK Jr, Don Jr and Tucker Carlson to block neoconservative figures from joining the new Trump-Vance administration. “I’m on it,” bragged Trump’s eldest failson. [...] But this is the Trump playbook: run as a dove, govern as a hawk. It’s what he did in 2016 and again this year. Attack neocons; get elected; hire neocons. So “Donald the dove”, as Maureen Dowd of the New York Times once put it? If only. Whether it is on domestic policy or foreign policy, Trump remains a conman. Don’t take my word for it. Take his new secretary of state’s.
Mehdi Hasan for The Guardian on Donald Trump's deceitful lie that he is "anti-war" (11.13.2024).
Mehdi Hasan wrote an opinion piece in The Guardian debunking the nonsensical “Donald The Dove” crap that falsely pitches Donald Trump as “anti-war”, when in reality, he is as pro-war as it gets.

Unfortuntaely tumblr is not letting me upload the video itself, but I ask that you watch this speech delivered in 2015 by the honorable martyr Qassem Soleimani, architect of the liberation of Iraq from the hand of US occupation, on the mafia tactics employed by the traitor Erdoğan, and the Saudi Royal family to threaten and punish the Syrian people with subversion and foreign invasion by salafi jihadist terrorists, for refusing to abandon the Resistance Axis in Lebanon and Palestine.

Yemen’s Houthis Retaliate with Massive Attack on US Aircraft Carrier USS Harry Truman with 18 Ballistic Missiles and Drone — Vow to Target All U.S. Warships in Red Sea and Arabian Sea
Iran-backed Houthi terrorists launch a massive retaliation strike on the USS Harry S. Truman.
Just hours after President Trump authorized powerful military action to restore American deterrence in the region, the emboldened Houthis fired 18 ballistic and cruise missiles along with a drone attack, vowing to escalate against all U.S. warships in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea. On Saturday, President Trump, demonstrating his signature “peace through strength” doctrine, ordered a decisive and calculated military response against Houthi rebels in Yemen. Trump, donning his MAGA hat and signature golf attire, watched alongside top military officials as American forces obliterated Houthi terror positions.
Iran-backed Houthis claim second attack on US ships in 24 hours
Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels claim responsibility for a second attack on an American aircraft carrier group in 24 hours, calling it retaliation for US strikes.
A spokesperson for the group says that “for the second time in 24 hours,” Houthi fighters launched missiles and drones at the USS Harry S. Truman and several of its warships in the northern Red Sea. The statement also vows to keep targeting Israeli vessels until the “siege” on Gaza is lifted.
UN chief calls for restraint in Yemen, end to military activities
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Sunday called for "utmost restraint and a cessation of all military activities" in Yemen, his spokesperson said, after the United States launched deadly strikes in the country.
"Any additional escalation could exacerbate regional tensions, fuel cycles of retaliation that may further destabilize Yemen and the region, and pose grave risks to the already dire humanitarian situation in the country," UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in a statement.
Iran distances itself from Houthis as its terror proxy network falters – analysis
Tehran insists the Houthis act independently as US airstrikes intensify—what does this mean for Iran’s proxy network?
The US launched multiple strikes on the Iranian-backed Houthis overnight between March 15 and March 16. The strikes are not only extensive, but the Trump administration is vowing to keep up the pressure on the Houthis. Iran may now be distancing itself from the group. If Iran loses the Houthis as a major proxy, it will represent another setback to Tehran. It will also illustrate the overall weakness of the proxy alliance that former IRGC-Quds Force head Qasem Soleimani constructed over decades. Soleimani was killed by the US in January 2020. US President Donald Trump may now be kicking out another leg of Soleimani’s terror empire.
US says Iran must give up its nuclear program or else
The Trump administration wants Iran to abandon all aspects of its nuclear program, the US national security advisor said on Sunday, warning that all options are on the table should Tehran refuse.
"Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. All options are on the table to ensure it does not have one," Michael Waltz told ABC News on Sunday. "And that’s all aspects of Iran's program. That’s the missiles, the weaponization, the enrichment. They can either hand it over and give it up in a way that is verifiable, or they can face a whole series of other consequences," he warned. In 2015, Iran signed a nuclear deal with the United States and other world powers that imposed restrictions on its uranium enrichment capacity but effectively allowed it to maintain its nuclear program.
Air Force on high alert for resumption of Houthi missile, drone attacks on Israel
Israel checking whether missile from Yemen, which landed in Egypt, was aimed at Israel, as White House says heavy US strikes killed ‘multiple’ Houthi leaders
The Israeli Air Force was on heightened alert Sunday for potential missile and drone attacks by the Houthis in Yemen, as the White House said it targeted the group’s leaders in heavy strikes and vowed to continue to do so. The level of alert was already raised by the IAF last week, after the Iran-backed group threatened to resume attacks on Israel. The Houthis halted their attacks on Israel and global shipping routes when a ceasefire took effect in Gaza in January. But the rebel group announced last week that it would resume them until Israel lifted its blockade of aid to the Strip, which it enacted on March 2 after the end of phase 1 of the ceasefire-hostage release deal.
Dramatic decision: PM Netanyahu plans to fire Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar over 'lack of trust'
Dismissal could cause new wave of mass protests against government and prime minister
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his decision to fire Ronen Bar, the director of the domestic intelligence agency Shin Bet, on Sunday evening. The dramatic decision follows months of escalating public tensions between the leaders and could cause a fresh wave of mass protests against the government and the prime minister. “Due to ongoing distrust, I have decided to bring to the government a proposal for a resolution to terminate the position of the head of the Shin Bet,” Netanyahu announced in a video message.

Iran mobilises missiles after Trump’s “unprecedented bombing” ultimatum
Iran activated its missile arsenal and placed forces on high alert following US President Donald Trump’s threat of “unprecedented bombing” if Tehran refused to negotiate a new nuclear deal, according to The Business Standard.
The escalation marks a dangerous tipping point in years of fraught relations, with both sides hardening positions and regional stability hanging in the balance. In a televised interview with NBC News on 30 March, Trump warned:
If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing. It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before.
He also threatened secondary tariffs on Iran and its trade partners, mirroring his 2018–2021 “maximum pressure” campaign.
Iran responded by readying missiles in underground facilities designed to withstand airstrikes, as reported by local media. These include precision-guided systems like the Kheibar Shekan and Ghadr-H ballistic missiles, capable of targeting US-linked assets globally. A senior Iranian military official warned that aggression would trigger a “severe response”, with missiles “loaded onto launchers in all underground cities.”
Collapse of nuclear deal, military buildup
The crisis stems from Trump’s 2018 withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which had curtailed Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief. Since then, Iran has enriched uranium to near-weapons-grade levels, according to UN monitors.
Trump’s demands for a new deal now include dismantling Iran’s nuclear programme, severing ties with regional proxies, and limiting missile capabilities, terms Tehran dismisses as “unfaithful” and non-negotiable under coercion.
The US has bolstered its military posture, deploying B-2 Spirit stealth bombers to Diego Garcia–a strategic Indian Ocean base–and dispatching the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier to the Red Sea. The B-2s can carry bunker-busting GBU-57 bombs, designed to penetrate Iran’s fortified nuclear sites.
However, military experts believe that the danger of US GBU-57 bunker buster bombs to Iranian weaponry is exaggerated, as the US Air Force recently failed to destroy an underground Houthi missile complex in Yemen.
Diplomatic deadlock, regional flashpoints
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian ruled out direct talks, insisting any negotiations must occur through Omani mediators.
The supreme leader has also emphasised that indirect negotiations can continue. We do not avoid negotiations. Rather, it is their unfaithfulness that has caused problems for us so far. They must prove that they can establish trust regarding decisions, and I hope this will materialise.
However, Ali Larijani, a senior adviser to Supreme Leader Khamenei, warned that an attack would push Iran to pursue nuclear weapons, a red line it has long publicly avoided.
Regional tensions are further inflamed by ongoing US strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen and Iranian-backed attacks on Israeli targets. Brig. Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps threatened retaliation against US bases in the Gulf.
When one sits in a glass house, one does not throw stones at others.
The standoff risks destabilising the Middle East, with analysts warning that a miscalculation could ignite a broader conflict. Trump’s rhetoric echoes his 2020 order to assassinate Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, which nearly triggered war. Meanwhile, European allies have expressed alarm over Iran’s uranium stockpiles and the potential for a nuclear arms race.

Who you voted for and why
Trump! I had my vote for JFK JR but since he dropped out of the race & endorsed Trump... he got my vote. I don't think JFK JR wasn't going win anyway... without a doubt Trump is the popular candidate. He's got my vote for other reasons as well, he's for the American people, the deep state have tried to destroy his character but we the people are not stupid, they clearly have full control on the mainstream media, weaponizing the news to go after Trump & paint a bad narrative on him. Once they realized they couldn't destroy his character they moved on to plan B & tried to assassinate him but that also failed lol. At that point you just made Donald Trump more popular. The whole situation with Stormy Daniels is complete BS if they wanted to put Trump in prison how about you charge him with the death of Iran's military general Qasem Soleimani, he was fully responsible for that drone strike but of course the deep state loves this action from Trump
I can forgive Trump but maybe not the people of Iran lol. He had no clue how much corruption is going on when he took office, he wasn't sure who to surround himself at his first term but he sure does now. He's got a squad behind hime like Tulsi gabbard, Vivek ramaswamy, Elon Musk, JFK JR and much more on his team. He knows what he's up against this time around. He's not perfect by any means but I can honestly say he's the best President we ever had or since Our 35th president John F Kennedy. Some people would say since Ronald Reagan but in my eyes he bend over for the establishment (Deep State) too much.

The FBI in Miami has warned of an Iranian assassin that is wanted in connection to assassination targets against former and current public officials, such as those involved in former President Donald Trump's administration.
The FBI field office in Miami shared a wanted notice for Majid Dastjani Farahani on Friday.
"Majid Dastjani Farahani, an Iranian intelligence officer, is wanted for questioning in connection with the recruitment of individuals for various operations in the United States, to include lethal targeting of current and former United States Government officials as revenge for the killing of IRGC-QF Commander Qasem Soleimani," the FBI stated.
"Farahani also reportedly recruited individuals for surveillance activities focused on religious sites, businesses, and other facilities in the United States," the FBI said. "Farahani acted or purported to act for or on behalf of, directly or indirectly, Iran's Ministry of Intelligence and Security."
The announcement by the FBI comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the U.S. Earlier this year, three U.S. Service members were killed at a military base in Jordan. President Joe Biden announced that "radical, Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq," were responsible, prompting speculation on Iran's role in the incident.
According to the BBC, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaan denied Tehran was behind the attacks, saying that Iran is "not involved in the decision-making of resistance groups."
However, in 2022, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi made a speech in which he blamed Trump and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for the killing of Soleimani.
"If Trump and Pompeo are not tried in a fair court for the criminal act of assassinating General Soleimani, Muslims will take our martyr's revenge," Raisi said, according to Reuters. "The aggressor, murderer and main culprit—the then-President of the United States—must be tried and judged under the (Islamic) law of retribution, and God's ruling must be carried out against him."
In December 2023, the U.S. Treasury Department announced sanctions against Farahani and another Iranian intelligence officer Mohammad Mahdi Khanpour Ardestani.
"Both Farahani and Ardestani have recruited individuals for various operations in the United States, to include lethal targeting of current and former U.S. Government officials as revenge for the death of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force Commander Qasem Soleimani," the Treasury Department said. "Farahani and Ardestani also recruited individuals for surveillance activities focused on religious sites, businesses, and other facilities in the United States,"

"Historically illiterate", huh?
I mean, there are plenty of people on this site who are old enough to have actual memories of the Bush Administration, many of which were extremely negative, but sure!
As for "Trump is less evil than Cheney", lol. The Trump administration assassinated the Iranian general, Qasem Soleimani, in January 2020 and almost provoked a war with Iran, but it ended after Iran shot down Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752, killing all of those on board.
Things did not escalate, not because of anything the Trump administration did, but because cooler heads amongst Iran's leadership and the US Congress prevailed.
In other words, Trump was super eager to start another Middle Eastern war that would probably would have gone even worse than Iraq or Afghanistan (because Iran is twice as big and has twice the population and because it has allies, whereas Iraq and Afghanistan were pariah states) you can bet there would be a shitload of war crimes.
However, looking through the archives of slothattorney's blog, he seems to have been blissfully unaware all throughout January 2020 of how close the US came to war with Iran. Which figures.
Someone else pointed this out to him, but of course, he failed to get the point they were trying to get across: that Trump wanted to be a warmonger like Cheney, but failed at it.

On Today’s Episode of World War III
“On Tuesday, the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed our worst suspicions concerning the pace of Iran’s nuclear weaponization program. “Iran,” it concluded, “has increased the rate at which it is producing near weapons grade uranium in recent weeks, reversing a previous slowdown that started in the middle of this year.”
According to the IAEA, Iranian enrichment of Uranium-235 to near weapons-grade level had increased to an estimated 9 kilograms per month by the end of November. It takes just five times that amount of uranium, enriched to 90 percent, to sustain a nuclear chain reaction for one nuclear bomb.
Presently, it is believed that Iran has enriched at least 128.3 kilograms of Uranium-235 to 60 percent, and 567.1 kilograms to 20 percent. Do the math based on Iran Watch’s estimates of its current centrifuge capacity, and Iran is now capable of enriching sufficient mass to 90 percent for three nuclear bombs in less than one week. Tehran could have a fourth bomb in one to two weeks more, and a fifth within roughly one month’s time.
(…)
We are in a very different world now than when that deal was first made. Moscow and Beijing are actively engaged in the equivalent of an ideological World War III against the U.S. that is increasingly turning kinetic. Iran has repeatedly demonstrated a willingness to undermine U.S. diplomacy and national security interests throughout the Middle East.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was behind the funding and planning of Hamas’s Oct. 7 terrorist attacks in Israel. Tehran’s plunging of Gaza into war undermined U.S. efforts to normalize relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel, and Iran-sponsored militias including Hezbollah and the Houthis are actively attacking U.S. military and naval forces in Iraq, Syria, Red Sea, and Gulf of Aden.
As his country nears a nuclear breakout, Khamenei is only becoming bolder. On Dec. 23, the Pentagon reported that the Chem Pluto, a chemical tanker sailing from Saudi Arabia to India, was struck in the Indian Ocean “by a drone launched from Iran.” Iranian threats against the West and Europe are also starting to come fast and furious. On Christmas Eve, Tehran threatened to close the Straits of Gibraltar and the Mediterranean Sea.
Iran will become bolder still if allowed to achieve nuclear status. We are on borrowed time now, rapidly approaching the point wherein a kinetic response will be the only option remaining.
(…)
On the Doomsday Clock, it is already five minutes and counting past midnight in Armageddon. Unless the White House acts now, Iran’s status as a nuclear power will be a fait accompli.”
Tumblr media
“More than 100 people were killed and scores injured Wednesday in two blasts that struck the central Iranian city of Kerman, emergency services said. Thousands of mourners had gathered there to commemorate Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleimani on the fourth anniversary of his assassination in a U.S. drone strike in Iraq in 2020.
A spokesman for the country’s emergency department was quoted by Iran’s state-run news agency as saying 103 people were killed and 188 were injured.
The deputy governor of Kerman, the slain general’s hometown, said the incident was a “terrorist attack,” according to Iran’s official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA). The explosions occurred about a half-mile from Soleimani’s burial place, on a road to the graveyard, the agency reported.
(…)
The blasts Wednesday came amid intensifying involvement by Iranian-backed militant groups in a confrontation with Israel and its principal backer, the United States, during Israel’s war in Gaza.”
“Hamas on Tuesday accused Israel of killing Saleh al-Arouri, a top leader of the group, along with two commanders from its armed wing, the Qassam Brigades. Mr. al-Arouri is the senior-most Hamas figure to be killed since Israel vowed to destroy the organization and eliminate its leadership after a deadly Hamas-led attack on Oct. 7.
Mr. al-Arouri was assassinated in an explosion in a suburb of Beirut, Lebanon’s capital, marking the first such assassination of a top Hamas official outside the West Bank and Gaza in recent years. It comes as officials across the region are worried about the war in Gaza igniting a wider conflagration.
(…)
“No one is safe if they had any hand in planning, raising money for or carrying out these attacks,” said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive internal discussions. Citing Israel’s vow to hunt down the perpetrators of the Oct. 7 attack wherever they are, the official added, “This is just the beginning, and it’ll go on for years.”
(…)
Mr. al-Arouri played a key role in Hamas’s relationships with its regional allies and in increasing Hamas’s military capabilities, according to regional and Western officials. A longtime Hamas operative, he was one of the founders of the group’s armed wing and was linked to a number of attacks on Israeli civilians, including the kidnapping and killing of three teenagers in the West Bank in 2014, which he called a “heroic operation.”
(…)
Mr. al-Arouri worked with Yahya Sinwar, Hamas’s chief in Gaza, in recent years to link the group’s military wing more closely to Iran, which, regional security officials say, most likely helped the group develop some of the capabilities it used in the Oct. 7 attack. Israel has accused Mr. Sinwar of helping to plot the assault, which officials say killed about 1,200 people and saw 240 others abducted to Gaza.
(…)
Israel for decades has made assassinations of its enemies in other countries a key part of its defense strategy. In the past two weeks, Iran has accused Israel of assassinating two Iranian generals in Iraq and Syria who liaised with the regional militant groups backed by Iran. Israel has also carried out high-profile assassinations of senior Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists in Iran and Syria, including Iran’s top nuclear scientist, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, and Col. Sayad Khodayee, a commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps.”

ISRAEL REALTIME — "Connecting the World to Israel in Realtime"
⚠️ Israel remains on heightened alert as it awaits Iran's response to the recent elimination of Brigadier General Mousavi, a senior IRGC officer. Mousavi, responsible for overseeing arms shipments to terrorists in Syria and Lebanon, marks the highest-ranking Iranian official to be killed since Qasem Soleimani. The IDF is actively preparing for potential missile threats from Syria and Lebanon, anticipating possible retaliation following the elimination of the senior Iranian commander. Israeli intelligence suggests that Iran had increased its efforts to supply arms to terrorist forces in the days leading up to Mousavi's demise, which occurred as a result of three missiles.

They also affect countries that aren't likely to follow US right-wing policy. After all, the US also has a history of directly interfering into the affairs of other countries, and Democratic administrations are, as a general trend, less likely to do so/far less aggressive about it than Republican administrations.
Democrats are also less bellicose. Yes, if you look at the Obama administration, there was a vile increase in drone warfare, plus the whole Libya matter, but it also involved attempts at reproachment with Cuba and Iran.
Trump escalated drone warfare even further, plus he was a key backer of Juan Guaidó during the Venezuelan presidential crisis of 2019 and he nearly got the US into a war with Iran when he ordered the assassination of Qasem Soleimani in January 2020.
Harris/Walz is far more likely to not escalate further with China than Trump (or Biden), potentially ending the trade war that Trump began, based on Walz's positions and statements.

24 years? Not long enough.
A California man was sentenced [27feb25] to 24 years and four months in prison for his role in operating four websites dedicated to sharing images of child sexual abuse. According to court documents, Louis Donald Mendonsa, 62, of Sacramento, assisted with managing and maintaining four different websites that operated on the dark web from at least December 2021 until his arrest November 2022. Each of these websites were dedicated to advertising, distributing, and exchanging images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children. One of the websites allowed members to post images and videos of children as young as infants and toddlers. While using the internet at a local coffee shop, Mendonsa advertised and distributed child sexual abuse images over these websites and assisted others with running the websites. When searched by law enforcement, his electronic devices were found to contain images of child sexual abuse, approximately 6,500 of which depicted identified victims of his conduct. Mendonsa pleaded guilty in April 2024 to seven counts of distribution of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.***

A drug cartel kingpin, known as the US Drug Enforcement Administration’s top target for his role in the killing of a DEA agent, was moved from Mexico to New York City on Thursday and is expected to face a judge on Friday, according to officials and sources. Rafael Caro Quintero was among 29 cartel members the Mexican government released into US custody as President Trump has threatened to slap imports from Mexico with a 25% tariff on March 4 if the country doesn’t do more to crackdown on illegal immigration drug smuggling. “Obviously, this is one of the biggest days in decades for DEA agents,” Ray Donovan, the former head of New York’s DEA office, told The Post. “This is very near and dear to every DEA agent.”*** The cartel kingpin is expected to arraigned on Friday in Brooklyn Federal Court on drug-trafficking charges, sources said. Quintero was convicted in Mexico for being the mastermind of the 1985 killing of US DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena and for the last two years has been sitting in a Guadalajara prison, sources said. Dear, 66, has admitted to killing three people and wounding nine others during a mass shooting at a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs in 2015, but the criminal proceedings against him have been on hold for years as he has been consistently found to be too mentally ill to stand trial. He faces both state and federal criminal charges in separate cases. Dear has for years refused medication for his diagnosed mental illnesses, which prompted federal prosecutors in 2022 to seek a court order that he be medicated against his will. At the time, they said such medication was likely to improve Dear’s mental health to a point where the criminal cases against him could go forward.

Weird that it's a federal case

Federal prosecutors have charged a woman in connection with a string of vandalism against a Colorado Tesla dealership, which included Molotov cocktails being thrown at vehicles and the words “Nazi cars” spray painted on the building, along with a message that appeared directed at company co-founder Elon Musk. Lucy Grace Nelson appeared in federal court in Denver briefly Thursday after being arrested on a single federal charge of malicious destruction of property. Her ankles and wrists were shackled. She wore a purple tie-dye shirt and red-and-black checked pants, as she sat in the jury box with other defendants waiting for their cases to be called. Nelson rocked back and forth slightly as Magistrate Judge N. Reid Neureiter informed of her rights and Nelson’s mother watched from the front row of the gallery. When Neureiter questioned lawyers about why federal charges were brought, Nelson began to speak but her attorney, public defender Jennifer Beck, rushed across the room to stop her. Cassie Wiemken of the U.S. Attorney’s Office said the federal government had a compelling interest to prosecute the case because of the danger posed by the “incendiary devices” allegedly used. After Neureiter noted that Nelson did not report any income or expenses in her application for an attorney, Beck told him that she receives support from her family.***

All I can guess is that Nelson is charged with 18 U.S.C. §2332a. Use of weapons of mass destruction. 18 U.S.C. §921 says incendiary devices are weapons of mass destruction.

Teenagers are God's way of testing the patience of adults
Denver Post says
Broken bones, excessive force and drug overdoses: Inside Colorado’s juvenile detention facilities The staff member walked calmly up the stairs at the Phoenix Youth Services Center — a facility in Lakewood housing young people convicted of crimes — and headed toward a 15-year-old who had just thrown a chair at him. In an interview, Amani Ince described the youth services specialist grabbing him and slamming him into the wall, the impact so forceful it broke a hole in the drywall. The staffer, probably around 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds, turned Ince around and slammed him into the opposite wall. Then he took the teen to the ground, Ince said, bashing his head on the floor. The Denver Post obtained a year’s worth of internal Colorado Division of Youth Services critical incident reports, which show rampant allegations of excessive force by staff members at the state’s youth detention and commitment facilities, serious injuries sustained by teens while being physically restrained, a litany of illicit drugs entering secure facilities, and several allegations of staff members engaging in sexual relationships with youth in their care, Sam Tabachnik reports.

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — A Highlands Ranch minister has been found guilty of sexually assaulting his own underage daughter, prosecutors with the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office said Friday. A jury on Thursday found 42-year-old Richard Merskin guilty of sexual assault on a child under the age of 15 by one in a position of trust, DA spokesman Tom Mustin said in a news release. The victim is Merskin’s daughter, he said, adding prosecutors showed the assaults were part of a pattern of abuse.*** Sentencing is scheduled for May 16. Merskin faces a minimum of years in prison and a maximum of 48 years to life.

Some killer legal advice
Casey Anthony, a Florida woman who was controversially  acquitted of child murder  in 2011, recently announced that she will be  offering legal advice  on Substack. Anthony said she felt it was her duty to defend people who were attacked, and called herself an advocate for women and LGBT people. (Girl, we’ve suffered enough, please keep us out of this.) Seriously, welcome to the Substack family, Casey. And if you need a motto for your new publication, this one’s on me:  Casey Anthony: Legal tips so good, you can get away with murder.

Who knew benefit of clergy was still a thing?
CV NEWS FEED // Former Jesuit priest Father Marko Rupnik, credibly accused of sexually abusing numerous women and nuns, has reportedly moved into a convent outside Rome, forcing the resident Benedictine Sisters of Priscilla to vacate. The Montefiolo convent, located in the Sabina Hills in the province of Rieti, has now become the headquarters for Fr. Rupnik and a group of former Jesuits associated with the Aletti Center, his previous artistic and theological community, according to a March 3 report from the Daily Compass.  Fr. Rupnik was excommunicated in 2020 after using confession to absolve one of the victims of his abuse, being later readmitted after repenting, CatholicVote reported. In June 2023, he was expelled from the Jesuits for refusing to comply with restrictions following abuse allegations.  His continued status as a priest in good standing within a diocese in his native Slovenia sparked public outrage that forced Pope Francis to reopen Fr. Rupnik’s investigation in October 2023. According to the Daily Compass, visitors attempting to access the Montefiolo convent were denied entry, and local sources indicate the nuns are in the process of leaving. A priest identified as Father Milan Žust, formerly Fr. Rupnik’s superior at the Aletti Center, was seen at the property and confirmed that the convent was being renovated and that the nuns were moving out.***

Unions are good, right?
At least seven prisoners in New York State have died since a statewide prison guard strike began on February 17. More than 14,000 corrections officers are striking to oppose a 2021 law that limits the use of solitary confinement, a move that the guards’ union said created unsafe working conditions. One prisoner named Jose Colon told The New York Times that a prison uprising like the violent Attica riot in 1971, which killed 43, could occur if the strike doesn’t end soon: “I don’t want to be here for the next Attica riot, because it’s going to come,” Colon said. The circumstances prisoners have seen over the past few weeks “can mobilize a population,” he said.
South Carolina  plans to execute  a man via firing squad on March 7, the first execution of its kind in the state and the first in the country in 15 years. They plan to do this indoors, for some reason, and experts are questioning whether or not the setup is safe for onlookers. All these advances in modern technology and we’re still killing people like it’s 1776. For Christ’s sake, just dust off the CIA’s  heart attack gun  and get it over with!

Florida police have arrested a career criminal with 48 outstanding warrants in Colorado alone after he swallowed  two pairs of earrings  stolen from Tiffany & Co. in Orlando. Jaythan Gilder, 32, reportedly gained access to the jewels, worth over $700,000, after posing as a representative of an NBA player. So many questions here, like:  Do they really want the earrings back? Will they resell them? What’s the cleaning process? Also, wait, there’s a Tiffany’s in Orlando?
https://www.thefp.com
"As he was being taken into custody, Gilder swallowed several items," the affidavit said. A scan of the suspect, taken at the Washington County Jail, found "foreign objects in his stomach," Goss wrote. "These foreign objects are suspected to be the Tiffany & Co. earrings taken in the robbery but will need to be collected ... after they pass through Gilder's system," the affidavit said. In jail, Gilder "spontaneously asked staff 'Am I going to be charged with what's in my stomach?'" Goss wrote. As Gilder was sitting in the patrol car, an arresting trooper heard him say, "I should have thrown them out the window," according to police. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/florida-jewelry-thief-swallows-770k-tiffany-earrings-just-arrest-polic-rcna194879
Why Gilder thought he could get away with a 700k robbery was not explained.

Be glad we have a 1st Amendment
A student midwife who was put on special leave from a placement with NHS Fife after posting her anti-abortion views on social media says she was worried her career was over before it had even begun. Sara Spencer, 30, underwent a fitness to practice investigation and was cleared of expressing her personal beliefs inappropriately. The mother-of-three, who is a US citizen, wants health boards to be more aware of freedom of speech rights. NHS Fife said the matter had been handled by Edinburgh Napier University, where Ms Spencer is studying. The 30-year-old joined a private social media group for midwives and trainees which has thousands of members and responded to a question about whether midwives might opt out of providing terminations. She shared the official guidance on conscientious objection and that she was anti-abortion.*** Her university put her on special leave from a community placement with NHS Fife and she was subject to a fitness to practice investigation. "I felt like it brought back memories of being bullied and ostracised in grammar school," she said. "Just three months into my training I felt like I was being told you're not welcome." It was found that the 30-year-old had no case to answer and she was allowed to return to her studies in July.***

A former Navy sailor has pleaded guilty in federal court in Chicago to plotting to attack Naval Station Great Lakes in North Chicago, Illinois, purportedly on behalf of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Xuanyu Harry Pang, 38, of North Chicago, Illinois, pleaded guilty to conspiring to and attempting to willfully injure and destroy national defense material, national defense premises, and national defense utilities, with the intent to injure, interfere with, and obstruct the national defense of the United States. The guilty plea was entered on Nov. 5, 2024, in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and ordered unsealed today.
According to court records filed in the case, in the summer of 2021, Pang communicated with an individual in Colombia about potentially assisting with a plan involving Iranian actors to conduct an attack against the United States to avenge the death of Qasem Soleimani, a general of the IRGC Quds Force who was killed by the U.S. military in 2020. The Quds Force is a branch of the IRGC that conducts unconventional warfare and intelligence activities outside of Iran

In President Donald Trump’s first term, he ran a less aggressive foreign policy than he seems to be doing now, with one major exception being his assassination of Iran’s top general and national hero, Qasem Soleimani. Trump, in his second term, has pivoted to a much more menacing policy toward friendly neighbors—not ruling out force to grab Greenland or retake possession of the Panama Canal, conducting economic warfare against Canada while threatening to make it the 51st state, and contemplating the use of military force against Mexican drug cartels without Mexico’s permission. The Trump administration has also taken a hard line against Europe, with the president declaring that the European Union “was formed in order to screw the United States.”
At the same time, the president is trying to ease tensions with Russia. He has revived diplomatic channels and dispatched top envoys to meet with Russian officials including President Vladimir Putin himself. Trump’s efforts to resolve the Russia–Ukraine War are part of this push for better relations with Moscow, with Washington making it clear that its military support for Kiev won’t last much longer. Moreover, Trump seems eager to cut some sort of deal with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, as the White House is in discussions with Beijing about a summit between the two leaders this June. Trump may have grand expectations for such a deal. In December, a month before returning to the White House, Trump said that Washington and Beijing could work together “to solve all of the problems of the world.”
Trump’s bluster and threats against weaker neighbors and allies seem counterproductive, but his approach to the world’s other great powers—China and Russia—is refreshing and cause for cautious optimism. Although Trump has been much too willing to pull the rug out from under Ukraine—as he did last month by pausing military assistance to the beleaguered country—he is right to treat the U.S. relationship with Moscow as more important than the one with Kiev. As for China, the world’s second most powerful nation and America’s only peer competitor, Trump’s professed willingness to pursue cooperation should reassure analysts who fear a devastating superpower conflict.
