This, and a lot of ranges size up their clothes STUPID badly. They just drag and drop the corner on the computer pattern pieces, which ain't going to fit anyone - you've gotta move the arm hole both in and up (sort of. It makes sense when you see three sizes drawn on a sewing pattern, ok?) when you widen the torso. The nipple and waist lines don't stay in the same place on fat bodies compared with thin ones. Fat people aren't taller!

This supreme laziness of only drafting the pattern properly for a few sizes (and they're almost never the large ones) means that what looks great at a size eight looks like garbage at a size eighteen because there is no living human it will actually fit.

It's not difficult to fix, you've just got to pay somebody to finish out the design process. They don't even need to be an expert. I've been sewing as a very indifferent amateur for ten years, I know how to do it. Suck less, clothing companies (for this among SO MANY reasons).

Sewing Class Support

New year, new sewing classes!

As some of you may know, last year I started teaching a sewing class at a local community centre. It has been an amazing experience for me. And it's been a great way for people in the community with low- or no-income to learn.

However, over the past year, our stash of donated fabric has started to dwindle, and our thread is down to like one spool of mustard yellow basting thread from the 80s. Which is why I do this little outreach every new term.

With the support of viewers like you*, I've been able to purchase fabrics for my students who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford it. And because of that, they were able to make garments that they would be proud to show off.

I'm hoping to collect at least $100, to have 10 for each student. If I reach that goal, I'll post one of the detailed tutorials for one of the group projects we work on!

Alterations on my peasant bodice hath been completed! Styled it with my jeans and the skirt I originally made it for. I think ive decided that I will add boning and a lining to it eventually but even just the few tweaks I've already done have made a huge difference.
