So Elon has decided to skip the imminent disaster of global climate change and just move on to a calamity 5 billion years in the future.

If you ever need to understand Elon's motivations, it's all this.

Okay and a little bit the woke mind virus.

But mostly this.

He wants to get to Mars more than anything. It's why the only thing he can speak intelligently about is his rockets. He has put in the time and effort to learn about them because this is his singular passion.

A lovely Youtube physicist did a video about SpaceX and she said half of the rockets blow up and Elon just wants more money. And it was disappointing to hear her say that because she is a scientist and both things are inaccurate.

SpaceX would be an amazing company without Elon. His leadership is the only thing really holding it back. They have put lots of cool shit into space. Their Falcon program is the most productive and cheapest rocket program in history. They put more stuff into space than everyone else combined.

They had to blow up part of the graph just so you could see the competition. Half of the SpaceX rockets are *not* blowing up.

Starship is a specific prototype. It has nothing to do with their main rocket business. Starship is Elon wanting to go to Mars. It is basically him trying to send a 3 story building into space. And he keeps blowing it up because that is the fastest way to develop a rocket. He's wasting a lot of money by trying to speedrun a trip to Mars in his lifetime. And these tests are bit more like crash test data than expecting the rocket and Starship to actually function properly. It's a process and they have goals for each launch, and for the most part, they reach those goals. Any success after those goals is gravy to them. But they are pretty certain it is going to end in fireworks at this stage of development.

I don't know if they will get it to work. It would be nice because a functional spaceship that size could do a lot of cool science. But Elon's goals and NASA's goals are going to conflict in a major way at some point in the future. And I'm worried that may damage space exploration.

Starship is very different than their Falcon program. It's a science experiment. Falcons rarely blow up. They get shit to space like the James Webb telescope.

And as far as Elon just wanting more money... sort of.

His personal wealth has not been a huge concern of his for a while. Otherwise he wouldn't have let Tesla fall apart like it has. The wealth he is actually concerned about is not his own. Going to Mars is a trillion-dollar-plus endeavor. Even the richest man in the world cannot raise that much money.

Only a government could fund that.

Elon knows this. He figured it out a while ago. And when he saw an opportunity to get his hands on the government purse strings, he jumped at the chance.

He jumped in the shape of an X like a giant loser.

I'm *positive* Elon thought, "If I could save the government a trillion dollars, they'll give it to me so I can go to Mars."

But it is probably breaking his brain right now after learning he isn't this super genius who can figure out government bureaucracy in a weekend with a bunch of coding dorks.

He got depressed and realized his cool plan to get to Mars was falling apart.

Whoops.

Elon will say anything to get to Mars. He will lie about anything to get to Mars. He will consort with anyone to get to Mars. If you are ever unsure why Elon is doing something, it's to get to Mars. His moral calculus is based on this. In his delusional mind, everything is justifiable to save the human race.

He does have side quests. He wants to repopulate the Earth with his seed. And he uses IVF because you can drastically increase the odds of getting a boy if you pay extra. And he is angry at his trans daughter because he wants boys to continue his mission to spread Musk seed. He spends $50,000 extra to make sure he gets boys and she is messing with the plan.

Oh, and he really really wants people to think he is good at video games. And he wants people to like him. And he wants to kill the woke mind virus because he didn't get the boy he paid for.

But Mars is *almost* all he cares about.

Elon thinks Earth is doomed and he wants immortality from being the man who saved human civilization. He truly believes our existence is dependent on being "multiplanetary." It might be the only thing he believes.

Saving the human race is supposed to be his legacy.

"In a historic move Friday [November 8, 2024], Sacramento State announced its new Native American College, a first of its kind in the California State university system. 

The college, a co-curricular institution housed at Sacramento State, will support Native-based education with a focus on leadership and career building. It will offer a diverse range of programs that integrate "tribal values, traditions and community engagement," according to a press release. 

This marks Sacramento State's second ethnic-based institution. The university launched the the nation's first Black Honors college earlier this year. 

The announcement was made at the California State Capitol by President Luke Wood and Dr. Annette Reed, an enrolled member and citizen of the Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation, who will be the first dean of the Native American College. 

Reed said students will have access to faculty mentors, advisors, outreach coordinators and more who have the expertise to work closely with Native American students and can support them holistically. 

She hopes this historic initiative will address low enrollment of Native students pursuing higher education across the state and in the country. Native American students face significant barriers to enrolling in higher education, such as financial constraints, feelings of isolation, historical trauma and lack of culturally relevant curriculum. 

"And so I'm hoping this impacts the students where they go through as a cohort. They can create networks, they can be able to have more of a support system going through and beginning together and hopefully graduating at the end together," Reed said.

Reed recalled taking her first class on Native American studies in 1980. She would later on serve as the director of Native American studies at Sacramento State and chair of the Department of Ethnic Studies. For her, advocating for Native American education was a natural top priority. 

"People always ask me, 'What is Native American studies?' It is history. It is looking at culture. It's looking at teaching sovereignty, federal Indian law. It's teaching social work, art. It's teaching about Native cultural expression, it can be literature," Reed said. 

The Native American College will introduce two new courses, according to Reed, which will be focused on Native American leadership. 

"It means that maybe some of the ones that start in Fall 2025 will end up here at the Capitol. Maybe they'll end up being the future senators or assembly people or the future of people in business. They might be leading our nation as tribal chairs, they might be going into the medical field," Reed said. "But whatever field they go into, leadership is really key." 

Students who want to be in the Native American College can apply after being accepted into the university's general application process. All students will be required to minor in Native American Studies, with an emphasis on Native American leadership."

Summary:

Evan Buckley gets a meeting request from Captain Deluca after he's already withdrawn his transfer request, and his curiosity gets the better of him. It seems Captain Deluca has a future opportunity for him if he wants it.

Buck can't turn the meeting down. He withdrew his transfer request weeks ago, and yet, Captain Deluca from Station 122 sent him a meeting request for that afternoon. He can't say no, his curiosity stronger than anything close to being shaped like self-preservation. So, he tells Chimney that he has a meeting with someone at HQ and ducks out before driving from the 118 to the 122.

He isn't sure what the expect, honestly, since he's never been called to another station for a meeting. He's covered before, sure, when flu or food poisoning wiped out a whole shift, but he's never done anything like this before. So he parks out of the way of the bay doors, and heads inside. There's a probie whistling a Chappell Roan song as he's wiping down the station's engine, and Buck approaches.

"Hey, sorry to interrupt, I'm looking for Captain Deluca?"

"Evan Buckley," a voice says, and Buck turns towards it. The face he's greeted with startles him because he knows this man, but from photos, from framed moments frozen in time and set on side tables and lining entryways. He's never met Sal Deluca in person, and until this moment, he's never registered that "my buddy Sal" and Captain Deluca from the 122 could be the same person. "Glad to see you made it."

"Thank you for the invitation," Buck says, and Deluca gestures him from the open bay towards his office in the back. It's a small space, unimportant and cramped, but somehow it's comfortable at the same time as Buck takes a seat in the open chair across from Deluca. There's a photo frame tilted just enough that Buck can see Deluca and his wife with three beautiful daughters who all have Deluca's full grin, and Buck knows that all three of those girls call Tommy their uncle and their godfather. "It was a bit unexpected, if I'm honest. I already withdrew my transfer paperwork, I'm not looking to change stations anymore."

"I was curious about that change of heart myself, but that doesn't matter much to me right now. I'm here to offer you not a transfer into your same position, but a promotion of sorts."

"Okay," Buck says, and he understands the hierarchy of the stations. He could become a driver engineer or operator, and in fact he should before looking for the captain rank, but he isn't sure why Deluca would want to hand that to him. "And, uh, wh-what, what would that look like?"

"See, I'm a part of a program, it's a leadership training program, a mentorship between senior and probationary firefighters designed to help create camaraderie and help the probies be able to find a spot of their own in their houses."

Buck isn't sure what to say to that, and isn't sure how Deluca has landed on him to talk to about this. If you asked Ravi, he'd been a terrible mentor at the beginning.

KENT, Wash. —

The Western States Regional Council of Carpenters union (WSRCC) has launched a new program at the Kent training center focused on recruiting more women into the trade. 

The Bridging Outstanding Opportunities with Tradeswoman Skills (BOOTS) program originated in Los Angeles then expanded to Portland in 2024. It’s a four-week pre-apprenticeship class exclusively for women that lays the framework for entering the carpentry trade. 

Dani Ferris has been a carpenter for ten years and teaches the new all-women class in Kent. She said she’s witnessed firsthand the lack of women and female role models in the trades. 

“Now, we’re being able to set these women up so that the future generations, they will be able to come in and they’ll see somebody who looks like them, they’ll see somebody in roles of success and leadership. Then they’ll know hey, I can do this, I got this,” said Ferris. 

A WSRCC spokesperson said in the union, women make up 3.23% of the membership. In Washington state, women make up about 7% of the carpentry workforce. 

Ferris said it’s a hard but rewarding job. She’s proud to have a hands-on job that has high impact. 

“I love being able to wake up every morning, go in, put in an honest days work, see the progress of what I’m doing every day. Then be able to leave and come back and drive down the street, look at all the things I touched, and be like ‘I did that,’” she said. 

New apprentices in Washington start at $37 an hour, then increase to $61.54 an hour when they become journeymen. 

The first cohort of women in the BOOTS program is started in March, but Ferris said this will be a regular, ongoing program for women moving forward.
