A special talk by Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia | Plaksha University

Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia addressed graduates at Plaksha University’s Mohali campus. He delivered a special talk on ‘Challenges Facing the Indian Economy’.

Dr. Montek Singh is an Indian economist and civil servant known for his significant role in economic policy reforms in India. He has held key positions in the Finance Ministry, including being the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission of India (2004-2014). He has been part of the senior leadership at the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. After his return to India in 1979 he took up the position of Economic Adviser in the Ministry of Finance. He held several senior positions as a civil servant, including Special Secretary to the Prime Minister, Commerce secretary, Secretary Department of Economic Affairs in the Finance Ministry and Finance Secretary. As Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, he supervised the preparation of both the Eleventh Plan (2007–08 to 2011–12) titled "Towards Faster and More Inclusive Growth" and subsequently also the Twelfth Plan (2012–13 to 2016–17) titled "Faster, More Inclusive and Sustainable Growth".

In 2011, Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian honour for public service
