This is going to sound preposterous but I really hope that the One Piece live action series will mark the beginning of a new era. I hope it will make big numbers and be acclaimed by fans, because it will teach hollywood and entertainment monopolies that when one takes time and involves the right people to make a live adaptation of a huge franchise, it always pays off.

I'm wishing for the moon here but I want stupid marketers to get it. I may not be a fan of One Piece at all, it'd be an honor in 20 years from now to say that they walked so many other good adaptations could run.

And look, they couldn’t have chosen a worse demon to send a sacrifice to because Bruce? He’s a protector of children.

Because there’s something that so many story and demonology books get wrong.

Hell is for the bad people to be punished for all eternity.

And Bruce? And all the other demons populating hell? Well, they exist solely for one reason:

To punish sinners for the crimes they committed in life.

It’s a jail. Bruce and his fellow demons are the jailers. They don’t guard the doors of hell because they don’t want anybody to get in, they’re guarding them so nobody gets out.

But children, children have no business being in this place of torture and agony. Not ever. There’s a whole ass system in place to keep the good souls from accidentally wandering where they shouldn’t be.

So Bruce sees this tiny, starved child crying and screaming and— fuck. This is a Dick situation, isn’t it? He needs to go to earth. Again. And drag some people down to damnation all early and piss off death again. But you know what? Tough shit. They want a demon? They’re gonna get one.

(Jason is soon introduced to another strange human after he mysteriously pops back up on earth. His name is Richard “Dick” Grayson, and his teeth are too sharp and his pupils look almost reptilian in the right light, but he takes Jason to a big ass house with a real strange butler and lots of food.

Jason thinks he’s seen the weird Brucie guy who introduces himself as Dick’s dad somewhere before… but Jason is cool with not looking a gift horse in the mouth. After all, what are the chances he’ll fall into another cult’s hands so soon after the last?)

watching people discover the fucked up science guy part of viktor's lore and then being like "we need to acknowledge that he's a fucked up science guy 😔" is so funny. like yeah, he is a fucked up science guy who thinks ethics committees are bullshit because in his mind having rights temporarily violated is perfectly fine if it means saving lives—especially when the ones condemning his beliefs don't offer what they consider to be an ethical alternative to fix the problem and simply let it continue to exist.

and yeah, he's a fucked up science guy who experimented on himself following a, quote: traumatic period of introspection. he had a mental breakdown, fell into a major depressive episode, and spending this horrible time of his life "alone in the depths" reinforced and radicalized his previous beliefs, and to showcase his beliefs (and to try and get rid of his emotions because of how overwhelming they were) he turned himself into a cyborg (and did in fact make himself worse in certain ways but ehh who cares /j).

and yeah, he's a fucked up science guy who gave a kid back alley anti anxiety meds so he could face down his bullies, but he did so after making him a cozy beverage, teaching him about the dangers of propaganda and baseless rumors, and having him scream into a megaphone to freak out said bullies because it was funny (not that he'd admit to finding it funny because then he'd have to admit to having emotions, and well he can't do that, no sir).

so yes, viktor is a fucked up science guy, but that's half his charm! he cares so much about helping people, but he's a weirdo and freak about it! though to be fair, in the city that also has a chemically enhanced werewolf (warwick), a sentient blob of goo (zac), a wind and water goddess (janna), and a literal war criminal who invented chemical warfare (singed), among many other wacky individuals, he's pretty normal all things considered! fucked up science is just a part of life in zaun, my dudes!

Hey! As someone who is originally a big fan of Brave Police J-Decker (and originally followed you for it!), I was wondering if you could tell me more about Metal Cardbot? What is it about? Thanks!

rubbing my little hands together 😈 😙.. Although I'm not the best at summarizing, I shall try to sum up the points I love about it.

Metal Cardbot is a very cute Korean transforming robot cartoon, its just about to finish up its second season, and its set to have a third! It's about Cardbots who have lost their home planet, and some have managed to find their way to Earth. They've been hiding among the humans in their vehicle modes, but some don't want to stay hidden and are starting to cause some trouble for humans! Our main character, Jun, finds himself getting involved; but he's happy to help everyone out and make a lot of friends along the way 🥺.. love me some good power of friendship.

It was made with the love of many TF and Brave series fans, and elements of it are seen throughout the series and character designs. In fact I believe some writers who worked on Iron Leaguer and Brave are writing for it too.

It's a cartoon made to sell toys to kids, so it does have it's quirks for that.. but I think it keeps it subtle while being able to focus on a charming story. Season 1 is a bit more episodic till the end (Like J-Decker!) while season 2 feels more story driven throughout. I find all the characters so lovable and charming, it'd be hard to not end up with a new character to go crazy for 💕💞💕!!

Cabalex put together the super awesome subtitle website that overlays subs on the official yt videos, and we try to get the season 2 subs for the new episodes out each week too! As much as I like the reveal that the ancient elves were spirits forging themselves bodies out of lyrium in-universe...

It's certainly a choice to bake pretty overt parallels between a species that for all intents and purposes should never have existed - whose existence is in fact the catalyst for almost every known misfortune plaguing Thedas - and certain real life peoples right into the worldbuilding.

But it’s an even more "interesting" choice to then retroactively whitewash all the horrific oppression their descendants have suffered for eons in order to justify the suggestion that modern elves may just deserve any "future" mistreatment and distrust coming their way.

Rykard’s wonderful toys

(I had originally posted this to Reddit but Reddit wasn’t really doing it for me as far as fandom stuff so I’m putting it here now. If you saw this on Reddit which… I doubt because it was a very small post, hey! Hi!)

Rykard is really the only demigod/being besides Miquella that’s established as a tinkerer. He and his company of inquisitors worked to create instruments of torture, torment, and fear, whether weapons like the Inquisitor’s Girandole or Ghiza’s wheel, or actual machines like the Abductor Virgins. This makes me think maybe Rykard, flame-and-torture-obsessed that he is, is also responsible for the design of the Flame Chariots and Furnace Golems.

Curiously, the flame chariots are found in locations with the flame guardians but also the Carian royals, such as outside Raya Lucaria (maybe captured and commandeered by the Cuckoos?) and throughout Caelid in/around Radahn’s Strongholds (who was, notably, also gifted many many abductor virgins.)

As for the Furnace Golems, we find Abductors outside of Messmer’s “Fort of Reprimand,” and the fact that Gaius’ Remembrance mentions that both he and Messmer “were as older brothers to the Lion” seems to imply that the Carian Siblings were at once maybe friendly with Messmer and the realm of shadow?

As head royal torturer, it wouldn’t surprise me if the methods he applied to making big scary symbolically relevant Abductor Virgins were carried onto other contraptions, and if maybe not the flame chariots I definitely think he at least had a hand in making the Furnace Golems. He seems quite keen on using the faces or icons of reviled beings to psychologically torment potential victims on top of the machine’s actual prowess, seeing as the Abductors are adorned with many snakes and a motherly figure, so it doesn’t seem outlandish to me that he would make enormous, Fire-Giant-and-Fell-God-adorned terror mechs to decimate the Hornsent if asked.

Originally when I had written this, it was really a fun headcanon and of no actual consequence. However, I do think now some months later that Rykard’s being in the land of shadow with the Carian Family is of some significance to some snake symbology that I’ll get to in a later post so if you cared at all about this, look forward to that.

Rhea’s home island; Brinerift

Located somewhere around original Marineford, Brinerift is home to backup Navy dispatch troops. The island is divided into an inland town, and a seaside town, which wraps all the way around the coast.

Brinerift used to be a unified Island, however, it was hit by a tsunami and it wiped out everything except the inland town. Brinerift’s surrounding waters are extremely toxic and volatile, making the island highly susceptible to tsunami occurrences. The government seized this opportunity to invade and occupy the shore to establish a Navy base under the declaration that they’d guard the citizens from any more natural disasters.

The sea in the area is toxic due to the extreme salt concentration. The salinity makes travel with a ship without motors or paddles, like Navy warships, incredibly difficult to navigate the waters around Brinerift. The sea will quickly eat away at the quality of wood and metal and makes it nearly impossible to sail out to the next nearest Island.

Seaside residents have access to outside trade, Navy lead education, and free access to inland travel.

In order to qualify as a seaside resident, at least one person in the family must be enrolled in the Navy. If that person dies in action, the rest of the family’s rights to settle at the shore are retracted. Dissented soldier’s rights are stripped, and only their offspring may regain their Navy status. Many of the Brinerift citizens have multiple children for this reason, to have multiple sources of “security.” The benefits of the seaside makes the inland life seem unworthy in comparison.

Inland residents are heavily restricted and must sustain themselves on local agriculture, with no access to foreign resources.

Only if granted limited-time clearance may inland citizens enter the Seaside town. Students from inland are allowed and encouraged to go to school in the seaside town; A subtle way to brainwash the children to convince them and their families to join the Navy and relocate. Many inland residents consist of elderly people who still care deeply and tend to their natural fauna. The island’s oldest belief is to cherish and respect their nature.

The Brinerift people regard the sea as a vengeful god; Believing that if you aren’t obedient, it will send tsunamis as punishment. Over time, the people came to regard their local ecosystem with intense respect and love.

Tension points

Where the rivers come too close to the ocean shore, the BR residents worry that one more tsunami encounter will eliminate their only source of fresh water

Where the marines settle at the edge of the North forest, they argue that they need more space to establish buildings in order to complete the breakwall on this side of the island

Building off of a previous post, I've decided what nation the Mushroom Kingdom is parallel to in my 'verse: Slovakia. (The fact that my girlfriend is Slovak and I feel very passionately about promoting the nation to atone for the fact that I didn't know it even existed before I met her has only informed about 90% of this decision.)

Okay, but jokes aside, the Mushroom Kingdom is an idyllic, green little kingdom, with lots of rolling pastures and forests and hills/mountains. Most towns are quite small, and even larger towns, like the capital city of Toad Town, have that small-town feel to them. Lots of open-air markets and little shops and small businesses. Toad Town itself is located in the southern-central area of the kingdom, adjacent to the Banská Bystrica region.

As far as traditional dress goes, Central Slovak kroje tend to be extremely colorful, which you see reflected in the varied vests most Toads wear. They're often embroidered with simple patterns, but extravagant embroideries aren't unheard of. Peach's ceremonial traditional outfit is no different: big, puffy sleeves, bright pinks and blues and reds woven into her outfit, and plenty of mushroom reliefs as stand-in for the flower reliefs you see more IRL.

(In place of the ribbons of unmarried women and headdresses of married women, she wears a mushroom cap, which matches her kroj and the natural Toad caps. Larger headwear seems to be more common in Czech kroje than Slovak, buuuuuut this is Fantasy Slovakia, we can make exceptions.)

I like to think Peach gifts Mario with a folk-style belt or vest or something that he starts wearing to official events, and then when they get married, he gets his own full kroj. Now, kroje varies drastically from village to village, but some of the most well-known of Central Slovak kroje come from Detva, whose men's kroj looks like... this.

I'm caught firmly between "Let's draw inspiration from some other Central region like Liptov for the MK's traditional menswear" and "Sun's out, tum's out, Mario would fucking SLAY in this".

genuine answer: do absolutely deranged roleplaying with your friends and it will all spawn naturally over time (trust me i have like. a decade of experience with this exact phenomenon. all rp inevitably evolves into kingdom hearts and/or homestuck levels of complicated interwoven plot if you give it enough time and blorboing)

equally genuine answer: be absolutely shameless and do whatever you think is coolest. hype yourself up. be your own biggest fan. kill the part of you that cringes. if you make (to use a completely hypothetical example) a semi-immortal homunculus who's made in the image of a man that died years ago and from his perspective has been resurrected against his will you have to Own That Shit. you can't turn around and mock yourself/put yourself down about it. you gotta be earnest and shameless and confident. eventually you'll fool everyone else into thinking you actually are all of those things. i don't know how else to express that besides It Really Just Works
