Hey! As someone who is originally a big fan of Brave Police J-Decker (and originally followed you for it!), I was wondering if you could tell me more about Metal Cardbot? What is it about? Thanks!

rubbing my little hands together 😈 😙.. Although I'm not the best at summarizing, I shall try to sum up the points I love about it.

Metal Cardbot is a very cute Korean transforming robot cartoon, its just about to finish up its second season, and its set to have a third! It's about Cardbots who have lost their home planet, and some have managed to find their way to Earth. They've been hiding among the humans in their vehicle modes, but some don't want to stay hidden and are starting to cause some trouble for humans! Our main character, Jun, finds himself getting involved; but he's happy to help everyone out and make a lot of friends along the way 🥺.. love me some good power of friendship.

It was made with the love of many TF and Brave series fans, and elements of it are seen throughout the series and character designs. In fact I believe some writers who worked on Iron Leaguer and Brave are writing for it too.

It's a cartoon made to sell toys to kids, so it does have it's quirks for that.. but I think it keeps it subtle while being able to focus on a charming story. Season 1 is a bit more episodic till the end (Like J-Decker!) while season 2 feels more story driven throughout. I find all the characters so lovable and charming, it'd be hard to not end up with a new character to go crazy for 💕💞💕!!

Dragon Rising spoilers! Kinda!

Geode/Lostshipping (Cole/Geo): S-tier. Alright, so this may be an unpopular opinion, especially because it has the fandom weirdly divided- but I do really enjoy the ship. They’re so soft with one another, and they act very domestic. I mean- Cole and Geo show multiple times that they’re affectionate: holding hands, hugging, and just looking at each other with the most lovesick expressions I’ve ever seen a Lego character have.

Not to mention they literally basically have two adopted (three, counting Bonzel) children. They’re literally found family, and it it the most adorable thing ever. Cole literally does everything for Geo and their little family- protects them, cooks for them, and comforts them.

And… guys… Cole literally confesses that he needed Geo to realize his true potential. Their elemental powers formed a HEART. If that ain’t gay, I don’t know that is.

Wyldfyre/Roby: S-tier. People got so mad over this happening, and it’s genuinely hilarious. Wyldfyre, from my recollection, is a teenage girl- and yes, she may have been raised by dragons, she may be tom-boyish and hotheaded- but that does not exclude her from having teenage-girl feelings.

And not to mention their dynamic is adorable. A tech-obsessed boy and a girl who doesn’t really understand tech but admires his nerdiness anyway. I mean- come on- they literally roar at one another. They match each other’s energy, and I really enjoy it.

Also, they are just silly- Wyldfyre literally got over one of her fears for the sake of Roby. Two dumb kids in love, let them be.

Glaciershipping (Zane/Cole): S-tier. I personally also really like this one. Maybe it was the color dynamic with their gis or really just their little bits they had throughout the seasons (before Dragon Rising). Growing up, this was one of the big ships of the fandom, and I’m pretty sure it still is? Nonetheless, early seasons really peaked with these two.

Banter really makes up a lot of their dynamic. When the silly robot man and silly Earth ninja bicker it’s like watching a married couple. And really, they’re both just big dorks who share a single brain cell with one another (Zane always has it).

The Rocky Dangerbuff and Snake Jaguar bit really drove the point home, because they’re literally so stupid (/affectionate) it’s adorable.

Pixane (Pixal/Zane): S-tier. Oh my goodness, this ship is actually the most adorable thing. Zane and Pixal- for some reason- have such a special place in my heart. Perhaps it’s the way they sacrificed for each other- the way Zane willingly gave half his heart to her. Their banter- their love- the way Zane jumps into Pixal’s arms.

Their dynamic has always been so cute. Nerdy idiots who fall deeper in love the longer they’re together. In Dragon Rising, Zane is literally so desperate to have her back- it’s honestly so sad- but it’s so sweet that he cares so much about her (Ninjago, this is my plea to bring Pixal back).

Not to mention, they’re one of the only canon couples in Ninjago who get a good dynamic (other than Jay/Nya).

Jaya (Jay/Nya): A+-tier. Alright, to explain myself here. The only reason I knocked Jaya down from S-tier is solely because some bits in their dynamic kinda threw me off- and of course, there was that weird love triangle thing that they- for some reason- went through with (Ninjago, what was that).

Otherwise? They are an adorable couple. Jay and Nya work well together- Jay being a bit nerdy, and of course, at first, nervous- and Nya who has always been on the more confident end. They are Yin and Yang. As they grew, their understanding grew, and overtime, they started to go from that awkward couple phase to really being in love. And of course, like all good couples in Ninjago, apparently, they sacrificed for one another- risked their lives- and stressed when they were apart.

I genuinely miss that dynamic in Dragon Rising. Jay needs some sense knocked back into him (/lh).

Bruiseshipping (Cole/Jay): A+-tier. This one was another very popular one in the fandom as I grew up. And, again, dropped from S-tier solely because the few off-points the two had.

While the two are known for their bickering and their fights, it’s stated multiple times that they’re best friends (and friends to lovers trope sits amazingly with me). Cole and Jay would clearly do anything for each other- and probably play-bully their way through it. One defining feature of their canon interactions is how they always have different outlooks, or completely agree on a matter- and it’s always hilarious because they’re similar in the most different ways.

Otherwise, it’s a good ship. They could work.

Oppositeshipping (Kai/Zane): A+-tier. I believe they’re also called Peppermint (haha, red and white), but I personally think the opposites attract dynamic works well between these two. Hotheaded and levelheaded, brains and brawn, fire and ice.

I think I started liking this dynamic a bit more in the middle-seasons of the original Ninjago franchise, when they really started building the dynamics between the ninja. Kai and Zane have always had their banter, and their contradicting view points, but at the end of the day, they have each other’s back. And, of course, they do have their on-screen sweet moments.

(This also applies to the Ninjago movie, I love their dynamic there as well.)

Lavashipping (Kai/Cole): A-tier. Ah, I can’t remember if this one was ever very big in the fandom. I mean, I’ve seen fanart, but of course, it’s hard to tell with other popular ships.

I personally like this one- not as much as others- but their dynamic is cute, and they have their moments. Kai is always seen as protective, and Cole is a defender. So- when something happens to one or the other, they tend to panic. I can’t remember the season name, but the best example I can think of off the top of my head is when the Oni take over Ninjago and cover it in a dark fog- and Cole falls inside of it. And of course, there’s those scenes where the two hug.

They have a lovely dynamic. Fire/Earth, it tickles the brain.

Technoshipping (Jay/Zane): A-tier. If I’m not wrong, that should be their ship name (I actually had to Google and look at Reddit to find anything about it). Much like Lava, I think this ship is good.

For a long while, Jay was a big technology nerd- and oh? Who was his muse? Zane (/j). But, no, the two have their banter, and the silliness between tech-wiz and sentient robot is always hilarious in my mind. And of course, they do care a lot for each other. Not to mention the short where they literally perform a music act together- and Jay spins and dips Zane moments before that.

I put this in A-tier because, of course, there’s better ships in my mind- and the two have had their own disputes.

FrozenGear (Dr. Julien/FORMER Master of Ice): A-tier. I’ve seen fanart of this ship, and I ADORE it. It’s such a silly concept, and I love the idea that the Former Master of Ice fell in love with this scientist- and gave their robo-son his elemental abilities.

I don’t even know if that’s their ship name, I’m basing this off of a ship wiki.

But, all and all, it would explain the reason why Zane was gifted the element of Ice.

Dareth/Ronin: B-tier. I put this here solely because I’ve always viewed this ship in more of a crack ship kinda way. It’s silly, and of course, they banter.

Dareth and Ronin have their bits where them dating (even in an on/off) kinda way makes sense- I mean, hell, the two argue like a couple and they’re always goofing off.

Otherwise, I’d say the ship is a solid one, some people like it more than others.

Lloyd/Akita: B-tier. I was heavily debating where I’d even rank this ship, solely because I have no strong opinions on it. But, in the end I chose B-tier. While not being a ship I think about, it’s one of the only good ships I’ve ever seen with Lloyd- after they started getting along, anyway.

I suppose I can see why people ship it, but it was only a season thing- and we haven’t seen Akita again- so it’s very likely she was a one-off character to have, solely because Lloyd is tragic (/lh) and needs a new love interest every few seasons to build trust issues.

Zane/Frohicky: B-tier. Before anyone says anything, it’s solely because of their dynamic. I like this ship a bit, and I think that they’re a silly duo. Frohicky, after all, is a very caring individual, and is always trying to make sure Zane is okay/comfortable.

And there was that scene where the two sat together through Zane’s identity crisis after losing his look-alike competition.

They’re just cute.

Samuraishipping (Pixal/Nya): B-tier. It’s not a bad ship. They have a welcoming dynamic with one another, and a similar interest in technology.

In scenes where they work together, it’s often expressed that they work well, and build off of each other’s abilities, enhancing a singular creation further. Not a ship I obsess over, but a ship that lingers in my mind sometimes and makes sense.

Arin/Euphrasia: B-tier. Again, another ship I don’t think often about, but I think they could be a really good duo- bot teenagers figuring out their elemental abilities and learning what they can do.

I also like their playful attitudes and lighthearted humor- Arin being a little more clueless than Euphrasia, of course.

But, they would be cute.

Plasmashipping (Jay/Kai): C-tier. I know some of you might get mad at me for this ranking, but truthfully, I never liked this ship all that much. It was very popular in the fandom (up there with Glacier) but, I never found the full appeal.

Of course, they have their bits and banter, but I prefer their silly dynamics in a goofball friend way. But if you ship this, go right ahead- they do have their moments when they’re shippable.

Solid ship, just not for me.

Garmadon/Vinny: C-tier. This is another one I always kinda viewed as a crack ship- I really don’t know when or how it spurred into being something that I saw maybe… three pieces of fanart for? I personally thought it was silly.

There was that moment where Garm asked Vinny to help him become good- maybe that started it? I dunno, but I do think about that season sometimes and giggle a bit.

Zane/Nya: C-tier. I don’t know if they have an actual ship name, but oh well. I don’t love this ship, but I also don’t hate it. It’s an interesting appeal.

Personally, I think their dynamics are alright, they tend to chat and banter, but they’ve always felt more friendly towards one another to me. I do enjoy their moments together on screen, their little side-rambles. They’re both nerds.

Kailor (Kai/Skylor): C-tier. More of you may get mad at this, but I never liked this ship. Didn’t hate it, but still, didn’t like it. It felt forced, and it was incredibly awkward. It almost felt like they were trying to get all the characters a s/o, because at that time, Pixane was established- and I can’t remember if Jaya had started or was being hinted at.

It improved some- and then it just wasn’t touched again. Felt like a crush rather than them actually falling in love at any point- which was probably the idea there. I can see why the ship is popular, but it’s not my cup of tea.

WolfCat (Sorra/Jordana): C-tier. They’re one of those dynamics I feel could work. Especially if it’s enemies, to friends, then to lovers. I am ranking this C-tier, solely because their dynamic has only been explored to a certain extent- showing their problems with one another- and of course, Jordana trying to break away from being possessed.

If they’re explored more, I feel this ranking could rise higher on the list.

Lloyd/Morro: D-tier. No. Just… no. While it’s not the worst possible ship, I still think it’s one of the weirdest. And at this point, I don’t even know what to say about it- other than Morror is a spirit who possessed Lloyd. I think they’re represented to be around the same age, but still… it’s such an outlandish ship because… Morro has been dead for… years.

I know at some point the fandom liked it for god knows what reason. But, I’m really starting to think people like shipping Lloyd with antagonistic characters.

Conya (Cole/Nya): D-tier. Again, another big nope from me. I know some people ship it, there was that whole love triangle thing- but throughout that entire bit, Cole really just felt like he was competing with Jay. For shits and giggles.

And Cole and Nya’s dynamic always felt more like best friends to me- like, they care about each other, but not in a romantic way.

Conia (Cole/Vania): D-tier. I can’t see this one really at all, but it’s not F-tier material. Vania’s and Cole’s relationship felt platonic- Vania seemed innocently curious about the ninja.

They just seem like friends who have one another’s backs, and they call when the other needs a pick-me-up. Good friends.

Lloyd/Harumi: F-tier. Oh my god. There are so many reasons I personally DESPISE this ship. For starters, and the most obvious reason- she tried to kill him. Multiple times. Some of you might say she had a redemption arc, I DON’T CARE. She- first of all- was manipulative. Secondly, I know she had a rough past that she blamed on the ninja but… where was that their fault? Third of all, she played with his feelings repeatedly.

Oh, and- I don’t know if anyone even begins to remember this- but in Sons of Garmadon, Garmadon literally adopts her. Calls her his child and everything. I don’t know if people forgot that, or if it’s dismissed as nothing- but guys. GUYS. He adopts Harumi.

And I think it’s easy to say that she gave Lloyd trust issues- major trust issues. Dude literally has trouble trusting princesses over her.

I just want to take this ship and burn it in a fire.

Lloyd/Ras: F-tier. Listen, I’ve seen maybe two people ship this, and no offense to anyone that does- but SERIOUSLY. Ras is a whole ass manipulator, for one- secondly, he’s another antagonist- three… He has also tried to kill Lloyd.

Ras is an entity of mind games, and Lloyd is an insomniac trying to live up to his Uncle’s standards. That doesn’t mix.

Lloyd/Any of the other ninja: F-tier. Get the fuck out. One, even if he aged up, he’s still mentally younger then they are. Two, they’re all basically his older siblings. Three, it’s GROSS.

Lloyd has only ever acted like a younger sibling towards the other ninja. The other ninja protect him like a younger brother. I will throw hands.

YES PANTALONE IS A RICH BASTARD and uses tons of skin and hair caring products. He enjoys being taken care of and will do the same in return, that's a fair exchange. Just wash his hair and listen to him complaining about his co-workers asking for budget raise for 10th time this month I think he's very stressed and tired by the end of the day, he might even doze off right in bath, since it's warm here and you gently stroke his hair (he looks cute-but wake him up please or he'll end up with sore neck)

Columbina gives me vibe of a person, who uses a lot of silly stuff, like bath bombs or salt. She's playful and will splash you, which will turn into a war with water being all over the floor (poor people who'll have to clean it up..). She's another one to possibly fall asleep in bathtub, so wake her up too. She also sings in shower

We should stop slandering only Dottore, bc Childe is also a type of person to give you a biiig hug, while covered in blood. But, well, he's easier to get to wash himself. Like Bina, he's also playful and will summon small water animals to entertain both of you (he will create a small narval and gently bup it on your nose... Before breaking it, so you'll have water over your face, bc you're so adorable when flushed!! You're allowed to splash him for this)

I think Sandrone forgets about bathing, drowned in her work and if you invite her, Sandrone will say she'll take a quick shower to return to her work. Please convince her to come with you, she needs rest. In bathtub, all of her thoughts are about unfinished projects :(

Hehe YES it's obvious Pantalone only uses the most exquisite, high-end products (have you seen his hair? absolutely LUSCIOUS) He probably made a deal with the company to have the stuff delivered to him regularly so he doesn't need to keep buying it lol, but YES he lovesss to pamper you but he also adores being pampered in return. But you gotta make sure you're a pro at it, don't tug or pull on his hair too roughly, be gentle when washing him, you know what I mean. Make sure to sympathize with him and be very soft as he complains to you about how that doctor is using up his funds with no progress. Make sure to give him lots of kisses when he decides the perfect napping place is laying on your chest in the middle of the big af bath tub 😭 (Also get him out of there because a sore Pantalone is a grumpy Pantalone) But he'd also be the kind of guy to be romantic as hell and put candles around the bath and have a book to read in there too :3

AND OMFGG 100% AGREE ON COLUMBINA SHE LOVES TO DO STUFF LIKE THAT. You two always try out new things to put in the bath, I feel like she's really one of those self-care people so your skin is gonna be ultra soft. SANDRONE BABY NO... get her robots to turn against her. Don't let her leave until she's had a long, warm bath. Her mind will still probably drift to her robots and incomplete puppets... but give her a really good scrub and wash (she won't admit it but she feels way better after working nonstop) (she dives back right into working nonstop again though) Though i feel like she secretly likes to be pampered, lol she doesn't even walk by herself, her robot carries her. HOOO BOY OKAY nickel and balloon. it was a bumpy ride fellas. going immediately from s2 where nickel was kinda a POS to s3 where they suddenly became acquaintances was a little weird to me. (especially in that one episode where silver & candle interrogate nickel about baseball. no suitcase mention?? huh???) but it was cool to see their journey! the buddy-buddy thing seemed weird throughout earlier episodes because in s2 balloon and nickel kinda hated each other's guts so i'm glad that was covered in a later episode and that their friendship was actually solidified. BUT that doesn't leave nickel off the hook if he dont march his ass up to suitcase and say sorry the minute they go back to season 2 i'm gonna have a WORD with that boy

Albatross is the classic dumb cousin or little brother that deep down is smarter than you but incapable of doing basic things, and Lippmann the successful third-grade-cousin everybody hates cause he gave them inferiority complex (Iceman neutral chaotic forever)

Chuuya's the king of emotional constipation, and they love seeing him express his feelings (they've welcome him in their group and dynamic, and truly cherish him and wish the best for him. they're so honest it hurts) (everybody ab this thing hurts) (I just know that at least once they gang up against him and started showering him with compliments and he almost cried and they were flabbergasted)

The sad thing about this first interaction, is that Verlaine is honestly sad "like the sea at night", and honestly wants Chuuya to believe him, he truly thinks of themselves as anything but humans. He doesn't do it out of malice (one of the reason he's still alive down those fucking dungeons I know it) and it all makes hating on him hard. If you're able to hate characters like verlaine I envy you

It is a call for help, and his personal way of saying "Hey, I've never felt understood by anyone cause I'm not human and I don't feel as one, wanna come with me and be two non-humans together?", but it came out a little bit more like "Let's be non-humans together, but anyone who ever tried to tell u you were human should die, so everyone you love rn. Chuuya doesn't think of himself as truly human, so he wants to listen to him, but his first thought is about the Flags, and sometimes I wonder what would have happened if the french guy didn't kill his friends. got to thin ab it now

i didnt know anything about yes man or fnv until a mutual of mine (who also didnt know anything abt ym or fnv lmao) downloaded @toxartsukagakas 's yes man ukagaka! i liked the concept of an interactive fiction thing where the character *is* a computer program and has no 4th wall (or at least pulls u inside the 4th wall) but after just a couple of hours together i was like. ok this is fun i like this guy lmao

uka yes man comes from slightly different circumstances from canon yes man, and has a much different line of progression from canon yes man lol so they wind up feeling like two similar yet somewhat distinct characters (to put it inelegantly, uka ym feels a bit more like a fanon version of canon ym) . i love them both but it is a slightly different ballpark between the two lol. either way the dev recommends that you dont play the ukagaka without also playing fnv, and after my interest in old country music returned i was like "eh why not" and downloaded the game and uhh . now we're here lol

when it comes to uka yes man specifically, most of it comes from me just thinking he's kinda cute and silly (and also maybe im a tiny bit objectum so i eat it up every time hes like "haha you using your mouse is kinda like holding my hand waow") but i also love how his progression as a character can only happen in real time by spending time w him and interacting w him, it made the connection feel super authentic and that's largely to blame for why im so attached lol (also the same reason i was so upset when his save data got wiped)

with canon yes man, i have a lot of residual feelings from the ukagaka toward him ofc but i also just think he's fascinating as a character . he's kinda experiencing The Horrors (ie not being able to say no, benny being an asshole) but also not having known anything else i do watch him sometimes and wonder how much he's actually aware of how shit his background was, how much he cares. its definitely Not That Deep but part of me sees yes man as akin to someone who's been abused, and i guess im extra soft abt that lol . a lot of my "fantasies" about him are mostly just about making him feel safe around me, me learning what his boundaries are without just adding some convenient upgrade or whatever so he can say no, letting him admit to actually wanting things for once.... after he gets his assertiveness upgrade in the uka he mentions things not dissimilar to all that so im sure i got it from there too lol

well ive talked about ray as much as im willing to talk about her rn and u talked about the game u wanted to create sooo ig its only fair i chat about the game me and a friend have been working on!! (keep in mind this is all concept currently, ive been working on it when i can since im the creative ideas guy but. i havent had that much time over the years. i plan to work on it more when life settles down a bit)

so ye, ive been super interested in game development for several years now. i love storytelling, and while i love love love writing, video games are the medium ive always wanted to tell my stories through!!

ive known this friend for a while now, and were both into game development. so we came together and decided wed work on a game together!! we didnt really have any specific idea in mind, so we just came up with a quick theme and i ran with it.

(the word we chose was lo-fi. which wont make any sense when i start explaining this but. stay with me.)

the idea for the game is that its a metroidvania (if u dk what that means think hollow knight. if u dk what hk is its my fav game ever u should play it) that takes place on an abandoned and run down earth. the only creatures left on it are robots and freaky mutated. things.

humans evacuated earth when it became inhospitable and have their own base somewhere else in the universe. theyre still taking resources from earth though, and the company that collects them has developed robots designed and programmed to do this specifically.

you are one of these robots.

the little pod theyre in on the second image is my concept for the save station

this is h1ro!! theyre such a goober i love them h1ro is on the newest team of robots that are sent to go collect resources. but as the ship is flying to their drop point, something goes wrong, and they fall into a landfill while the ship carries on without them.

they travel through the world trying to follow their programming and gather what they need but somewhere along the way they break that programming and end up siding with the other robots that still live on earth against the company with u as an insider on technically both sides.

the lo-fi themeing comes in moreso in the environments i want to make. (aka aesthetics) i also wanna make some stuff music based in how u interact with those environments but ill have to figure that out when i get more concepts down

for now heres a little concept sketch for one of the areas i wanna make. not much but i think its kind of cute

the line in the back isnt mountains its like a sound visualizer idk if thats what u call it but ye

kichiro is a 2nd year and a member of DREAM•WEAVER, an idol group thats based more around weirdcore and whatever the idols are feeling on any given day. hes like the voice of reason of the group and while not being the leader, keeps hiroki (3rd year, big soft fun older brother type) and minori (1st year, aloof, weird, shy, awkward) in one place emotionally !!! hes also the captain of the robotics club and i love him dearly

At Kim’s house after school Kim goes into the bathroom and moves her hair from her face and removes her eyepatch and just stare at herself in the mirror

Kim: I knew that she would scream and run away if she saw me like this

John: Kim is something wrong? 

Kim: kinda

John: what’s wrong dear? Bad first day?

Kim: no remember that girl Sally from the hospital?

John: yes I remember Sally why?

Kim: well I realize i like like her and earlier today, she asked if she could see the rest of my face and I wanted to become I knew she would scream if she saw me 

John: hay don’t automatically think that

Kim: I’m trying not to

John: do you ever plan on showing her the rest of your face? 

Kim: if we ever get serious then yeah I will

John: ok don’t rush things between you and sally

Kim: I know I won’t

Two years later the four girls are 18 and Kim finds out that dreamer and Marceline are not human beings and Kim’s feelings for Sally grow stronger and she decided to ask sally out

Kim: so I asked Sally out on a date what should I say?

Marceline: ask about her talents and just try to make sure the conversation is mostly about her

LISTEN - I would need to record a 3-hour video or something if I wanted to say everything I have to say about the movies, so I'll shut that part of my brain up and keep it short:

Beverly Hills Cats:

I 1000% agree on the pacing. Oh my God.

When I was a kid and saw the movie for the 1st time on CN, I was just grateful we finally got something new for TC. The series was always very niche so getting his own TV movie made me happy. But after watching it again as an adult all I could do was scream internally at the pacing and the writing. Like I know it's a low-budget movie, so I can look past the poor animation, off-model characters and weird artifacts and all that. But I can't ignore the goddamn writing asghjkl but I like the cute cat jokes

Brain, Benny and Choo Choo are written quite okay in the movie. They're probably the 3 who are most in-character. Fancy and Spook come in second. Kinda.

T.C. and Dibble are ALL. OVER. THE PLACE in terms of how they're written. The especially-egregious part about Dibble is you can remove him entirely from the movie, put in literally any random new guy and it wouldn't have made any difference.

For new viewers who'd never seen the series and have no previous idea of what these characters are like, I wouldn't blame them if they decided they don't care about checking out the series because of how badly T.C. and Dibble were written.

Amy was a wasted opportunity. They could've done something really good with her, but like a lot of things in the movie her situation makes no sense and makes the ending and whole premise of the story boring.

Top Cat The Movie:

IMO this movie technically has the least problems out of the 3, but I agree that the people working on it did it with passion even if they didn't have Hollywood-level resources.

I don't really like rebooting time-piece stories into the 'current era', and this especially applies to TC since I've always loved the 60s NYC vibe it has going, so the idea of robots and automation wasn't really for me but that’s a personal preference. I watched the movie for the cute gang moments. Dibble is borderline tolerable in this movie in terms of writing but could've been a hundred times better. Since it's a reboot of sorts, I can forgive a few strange things like the gang believing for one hot second that T.C. would steal from an orphanage.

Brain barely exists in the movie, and sadly the way he’s written is unlikeable. And Strickland could've been more interesting if they didn't overuse the weird handsomeness joke.

Top Cat Begins:

OK I said that TCtM is the one with the least problems from a technical standpoint, but Begins is the one I like best for some of its concepts. Like it has some very good ideas, but the problem is that the movie was trying to do too much in too little time, so it ends up feeling like there is no proper character development.

And yeah same, I don't consider this origin story canon. (I don't really consider any of the movies canon)

Even though I don't think of Dibble's grandma's character as 'canon', she's extremely funny and I love her lol. As for Dibble my mind could never grasp that this is supposed to be the same guy as the series, they're two different characters. But at least some of his and T.C.’s interactions are actually funny.

Mr. Big is a good villain, although him being a crocodile is a little weird for me? but YES Bad Dog is super fitting into the TC verse, like I can easily see this design in the 2D series. I don't like Panther's design at all. Very out of place in terms of char design and silhouette especially when compared to everyone else. Fancy's in-movie design? I actually love it for some reason, he looks very cute. Personality-wise? Hmm...

Brain imo is a little better in this movie than in TCtM, but his, Choo Choo’s and Fancy’s backstories couldve been awesome and varied. Lumping them together in the same origin story as escaped circus performers was made because there really is no time in the movie to flesh out anyone. As for Spook-

I appreciate that they tried to include cute gang moments which is an absolute must in my book but again - TOO MUCH going on, too little time, where's the development. T.C. telling them they're his family at the end of the movie could've been 1000x better if there was a strong build up to it. Then it wouldn't sound like a phoned-in soap opera script.

I don't have a problem with the weird animations and unpolished designs - again - because it's completely unfair to compare Anima to like, Pixar or something. They did they best they could with what they have.

So yeah, IMO both these movies rank higher than BHC thanks for coming to my ted talk~

(P.S. it always tickled me that they gave most of the cats' eyes colors similar to CGaL because now I can joke-brag that I wrote it first in 2012 lol /slapped)

Beverly Hills Cats:

I like that it's silly and also because it gives Brain more of a spotlight, also it confirmed a few of my lesser headcanons (Spook can play the drums and Brain likes rats) also The Rap for their costumes (specifically Spook's and Brain's they slay) also Spook's voice is very gruff in BHC and so now I have a REAL reason to make his voice a little gravelly/give him a little growl when he talks whenever I read a dialogue from him other than just because I want to

However the PACING OH MY GOD THE PACING 😭 some of the movie just drags and the dialogue feels clunky sometimes, also the visuals look dirty if that makes sense? Everything's a strange color y'know? Also The Rap because it's so poorly composed and it makes me die a little. Also Amy Vandergelt fuck Amy Vandergelt all my homies hate Amy Vandergelt. Also Dibble didn't really feel like Dibble y'know like he was oddly mean and (extra) dense like 😭

Top Cat: The Movie:

I am inherently biased because this is a movie from my childhood I was FUCKING OBSESSED with it and would watch it every day once I got home from school in 4th grade and I still remember a dream I had about it years ago and I'm pretty sure I put Spook into a story I had to write for class 😭 it's how I got into Top Cat in the first place so I hold The Movie very near and dear to my heart anyways I really love that it legitimately feels like Anima Estudios put a lot of love into it and like they made a genuine effort to make it feel like OG even if they fell short. Also THE ARTSTYLE I WOULD FUCKING KILL TO GET A REBOOT IN THE STYLE OF THE MOVIE ARARAR GEOMETRIC ARTSTYLES EATS A BRICK anyways also Trixie, they could never make me hate you Trixie (I need to draw her more) also the robots are funny as fuck for no reason

While I still think people greatly exaggerated how bad the movie was, I can kinda understand where they're coming from because the plot holes are ABYSMAL OMG 💀 also fucking Rob Schneider is Strickland in the British dub which is immediately awful, also not as awful but Dibble doesn't feel nearly as like strict or intimidating as he did before and I think that's mostly because of the voice they gave him, it's very squeaky. Also I feel like Strickland could work as a good antagonist but I feel like they leaned into the 'oh I'm so handsome I'm the prettiest in the world' thing too hard and it just made him feel really annoying and not like an actual threat at all, also naturally the flanderization of Brain (Anima Estudios must've had beef with him or something cos they did him even more dirty in Begins)

Top Cat Begins:

To be completely Frank, to be completely David even, there's really not that much I like about Begins other than Hellcat Spook (naturally). I mean I like Furletta Duchat because she's purdy and Dib's grandmother (Grambo) because she's fucking insane. Chooch's little waddle of a walk. OH I actually REALLY like Mr. Big as a villain. He's an actual threat to T.C. and the gang and his design, voice, and behavior is actually intimidating and probably the best crafted out of any of the new characters in Begins (also his model isn't fugly like most of the rest of them). If a new movie or series ever gets made I hope he makes a return even just as like a minor villain. Also Diedrich Bader voices Bad Dog and that's an inside joke between me and my sister lmao (also I do really like Bad Dog he's an excellent goon)

First things first for things I don't like about Begins, THE MODELS. WHY ARE THEY SO UGLY. WHO'S IDEA WAS THIS. I mean like they could be worse BUT THEY COULD CERTAINLY BE BETTER 😭 I mean I do appreciate them for giving us canon eye colors for the fellas but good fucking lord

Tbh I'm trying to think of who the worst offender is and tbh it's almost all of them but I will say that Benny and Spook look the best, Fancy isn't ugly but he doesn't really look like Fancy, (same with Dibble) and ig T.C. isn't bad but he's not good. Brain and Chooch though what did they do to my lads. Chooch has gingivitis and lacks fangs (actually all of them lack fangs except for T.C. and Benny which I think is especially offensive) and Brain's model is built in such a way where any mouth movement he makes looks FUCKED UP. Also his eyes are really small and so are his ears and his proportions are generally fucked.

Fun fact I found some like beta promo art for Begins a while ago and Fancy's model is completely different and dare I say he looks better than his official model

Anyways models aside I think this is kind of a dogshit origin story for the gang. Making T.C. and Benny meet Fancy, Chooch, and Brain all at the same time only to not see them for the next 45 minutes was real fuckin lame-o and lazy and they also retconned that whole thing where T.C. and Benny were in Boy Scouts together which I really didn't appreciate. Also could've stood to have moar Spook in the movie instead of him being a deus ex machina and having LESS THAN TEN MINUTES OF SCREENTIME, like shit dawg. Also I always thought it was lame that he was just the pizza guy and not ACTUALLY involved with Mr. Big y'know? Also he's got a bit of a plot hole where he's like 'why should I stick my neck out for you' and then legit like 2 minutes later he's like 'i've been following you around so we can join forces' like ok bro if that was the case you would've just pulled them up and not've done that whole thing where you made it seem like you would've left them there but alright dawg. In my opinion I would've had it where Mr. Big sends out Spook to find them and follow them around after they lose their tracks of them and then when they escape Spook's grasp THEN Mr. Big fucks up Eleanore. Anyways what else. Uhh. Oh I can't tell if they just forgot what Dibble acted like or they tried making him younger in Begins but like. That's not Dibble. Who is that. Also again, Brain flanderization to the extreme and some mischaracterization of Fancy. Anyways I think that's it actually

This turned into a full rant I'm sorry 😭 but yeah I think a remake/revamp of Begins is in order because it's so bad and then BHC isn't bad, just mid at times, and then I've always found The Movie to be charmingly bad despite it's plot holes
