I have always been a fan of Kim Hyang Gi and when I stumbled across several clips on YouTube for Salon de Nabi aka Fly, Butterfly, I knew it was going to be my next assignment. We should really appreciate the variety in pupae more.

Like, here we have flies doing the absolute bare minimum. It's just a pod. Fly grows inside a pod, that's it.

Butterfly chrysalises seem to have the same minimalism...but then you look closely, and can see the future butterfly parts are all outlined.

And then you have beetles just making a whole balloon animal shape to grow into.

Had to get a Very Large Roach off the ceiling in my kitchen and shrieked when it started flying.

Now, for unrelated reasons, I am writing a ballad about a Very Grand and Brave Knight, slayer of Dragons and Fearsome Beasts, who disappeared after encountering a single bug.

An earwig that randomly appeared in my bathroom (deposited outside), a tiny 'ling that showed up at breakfast (placed on a chair out of harm's way), a slug and a not-quite-slug, all from the Lower Mainland region of BC, Canada. The last two pics were taken at a friend's place in nearby Eastgate. Thanks!

Excellent friends! In order they're an earwig in the genus Forficula, a yellow sac spider, a banana slug, a western eyed sphinx caterpillar, a comma butterfly but don't ask which one, and I think maybe a bee fly, but I'd need more photos to tell you which one. MAYBE Villa lateralis.
