i know its not the point of the post but holy shit i've been wondering for so long why i can never relate to other lesbians talking about being terrified and disgusted when they found out they were gay and it taking many years for them to accept it
it took this post for me to realise that its probably because i'm not american
Being raised culturally christian protestant atheist is funny, actually. I was never taught that Hell is literally real or that I should believe in it, or that you go there for being gay. I was told that I'm free to do whatever I want with my life, for as long as I'm doing something constructive and working hard to achieve it. Wanting to suck dick isn't a sin, but wanting to do fuck all sure is one.
I never had to cope with some traumatic realisation that homosexuality is an inherent part of who I am that no amount of repression, prayer or conversion therapy could make it go away. I'm just sitting here contemplating the idea that maybe I never have been and never will be a hardworking, career-driven, passionate and ambituous Dedicated To Their Life's Work kind of a person.
I don't believe in Hell but I'm still convinced I'll go there if all I want to do with my life is to stare at walls.

Epämääräsiä suunnitelmii Venyviä seteleitä Ja usein kolikoita Eteisessä kolikoita Jossain on lentokone ja se on täynnä ihmisiä Meil on lemmikkejä Sun ristimiä Mitä jos tää on meiän lopullinen asunto Ja mitä jos tää onki meiän lopullinen asento Sä mietit ääneen juhlapäiviä tai jotakin Mä mietin tosi usein ihan tosi tosi hiljaa
Kai ny muutaman elämän verran Kai ny muutaman elämän voi odottaa
Hirvittävä onnellinen lapsuus En oo ajatellut sitäkään sen jälkeen ku se päätty Lapsi sylissäni niinku se ois nukke Jonka silmät vois vaan sulkee Mitä kukakin nyt tuntee Mul on silmät silmät silmät täynnä railoja Mä kaipaan taitoja joita varten ei tarvi taitoja Ja kaiken tasasen maton alle ku lakasen Ni voi vaan ihastella miten nopeesti se kasvaa Se toimii silleen et on vaikeit ajanjaksoja Helppoja hetkiä, lisää jaksoja Basilikan lehtiä Repeäviä basilikan lehtiä
Kai ny muutaman elämän verran Kai ny muutaman elämän voi odottaa Kai ny muutaman elämän verran Kai ny muutaman elämän voi odottaa
Se toimii silleen et on vaikeit ajanjaksoja Helppoja hetkiä Lisää jaksoja Basilikanlehtiä Repeäviä basilikanlehtiä Mikään ei oota niinku avaamaton ikkuna Sul on kahvi mul on kaikki tippumas Sä oot kokoelma hiuksii Mä oon kokoelma hiuksii Yhes tehään lisää hiuksii
Kai ny muutaman elämän verran Kai ny muutaman elämän voi odottaa Kai ny muutaman elämän verran Kai ny muutaman elämän voi odottaa Kai nyt muutaman elämän verran Kai ny muutaman elämän voi odottaa
Basil leaves
Vague dreams, stretching bills And often coins, coins in the hallway There’s a plane somewhere and it’s full of people We have pets named by you What if is this our final apartment And what if this is our final position You think out loud about holidays or something I think really often really really quietly
I guess for a few lives I guess we can wait for a few lives
Horribly happy childhood Haven’t thought about that either since it ended A child in my lap like it’s a doll whose eyes you could just close What does anyone feel anyway I got eyes eyes eyes full of chasms I long for skills you don’t need skills for And when I sweep everything that’s stable under the rug You can just admire how fast it’s growing The way it works is there are tough times Easy moments, more times Basil leaves Tearing basil leaves
I guess for a few lives I guess we can wait for a few lives I guess for a few lives I guess we can wait for a few lives
The way it works is there are tough times Easy moments, more times Basil leaves Tearing basil leaves Nothing waits like an unopened window You have a coffee dripping, I have everything falling (dripping/falling are the same word here) You’re a collection of hair I’m a collection of hair Together we make more hair
I guess for a few lives I guess we can wait for a few lives I guess for a few lives I guess we can wait for a few lives I guess for a few lives I guess we can wait for a few lives

This is going to be such a nothing post to anyone who doesn't live in Finland, but I was just reading about Pekka Puupää, a Finnish comic strip character from the early 20th century who was spun off into an improbable amount of comedy movies in a very short span of time (13 movies in the space of 7 years holy shit), and okay first of all the films apparently share very little continuity with the comic strip and also the comic strips were originally basically propaganda for the nascent retail co-operative movement in Finland. And I genuinely don't know what to do with this information.

Regina Linnanheimo (Kaivopuiston kaunis Regina, Katariina ja Munkkiniemen kreivi, Levoton veri)— Nicknamed the Garbo of Finland for her beautiful and expressive eyes, Linnanheimo was a huge movie star in the 40s and 50s. She's especially known for her leading roles in historical romance movies but she also acted in grittier movies where she got to explore new kind of female roles in Finnish cinema.
Jane Wyman (All that Heaven Allows, Larceny, Inc., Magnificent Obsession)— I dare everyone to watch All that Heaven Allows and not MELT at Jane Wyman's gorgeous smile ("a silver-tipped spruce?" ugh, what a moment). And also just enjoy her literally playing a MILF opposite Rock Hudson, and in beautiful a Douglas Sirk Technicolor flick, what more could you want?
This is round 1 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.

About five years ago there used to be some dude in my hometown who consistently kept putting up nazi propaganda stickers, so I made it my job to take them down. It was a hobby for a while, I'd take long walks, with a scraper in my backpack, and kept an eye on every trash can, streetlamp, and wall that accumulated stickers, learning to spot these specific stickers. I even went to their website (which is still up, apparently, but I'm not guiding traffic their way) to see if they had any logos that I would have missed.
This one time I was scraping one sticker off a lamp post - one of their big standard ones, with a fist punching a star of david and the text "against zionism!" - this white guy who wasn't finnish actually walked up to me, and asked in awkward english what exactly I'm doing. And I explained I'm removing these fucking stickers that some other guy keeps putting up. I've never seen the guy but I hate seeing his shit, and I've heard it through the grapevine that he's sworn to kill the guy who keeps taking his stickers down.
He asked me if I knew what zionism is, and to be entirely perfectly honest, no I did not. So he started telling me about all the things that are wrong in the state of Israel, and how being against zionism isn't automatically antisemitism, and I can't just assume that anyone criticising Israel or zionism is a nazi. The semantics of propaganda are insidious and it's easy to be led astray.
I let him talk for long enough to understand what he wanted to say and to believe that he really meant what he was saying. Once we had established that, I told him that while he may know more about the situation in Israel than I do, I know more about my own people than he does. And the finnish national socialists who use this logo right here do not give a shit about the people of Palestine. I'm not taking these things down because I'd think Israel should be an ethnostate. I'm taking them down because I think Finland should not be one.

"Transparency should be our key weapon against individuals on the fringes who promote Kremlin propaganda... Highlighting and discussing these issues openly can help. Raising awareness about individuals spreading Kremlin propaganda, especially those in positions of power, is vital...
Most countries, even those strongly opposed to the Kremlin, will have one or two such pro-Kremlin voices. It's important to acknowledge that in a democracy, everyone has a voice, even if it's frustrating to hear Kremlin propaganda.
This underscores the importance of education. If people are equipped with cognitive resilience against such misinformation, it loses its impact on society as a whole. Building cognitive resilience through education is crucial. It’s a long-term investment, but it’s an essential competence also for our children's future well-being and security."
—Pekka Kallioniemi, Finnish counter-disinformation scientist and activist

i wasn’t even joking about the thomas speer princess treatment btw. btw. i know the sharks have a Reputation for goalie breaking but to give you all some counter propaganda… he did good work with kahkonen and blackwood and i expect given the chance he’ll do the same for georgiev
Published October 17 2023, How a coach’s visit in Toronto helped Mackenzie Blackwood get comfortable with the San Jose Sharks - by Curtis Pashelka (link)
SAN JOSE – Mackenzie Blackwood was about a week away from leaving Toronto and heading to the Bay Area last month for the start of training camp when he got a visit from San Jose Sharks goalie coach Thomas Speer.
The two had previously only talked on the phone, and that was after Blackwood had been acquired by the Sharks last June and subsequently signed to a two-year contract extension. So Speer’s visit gave the two a chance to get to know each other a bit better and get on the same page prior to camp.
It was also a personal gesture that Blackwood appreciated.
“That shows a lot,” Blackwood said Monday. “To come and spend some time and go out of your way to come work with me. Yeah, I was appreciative.”
Speer, now in his second season with the Sharks, is tasked with helping the team solve its goaltending woes after years of being well below average. The Sharks haven’t had a team save percentage over .901 since the 2017-2018 season and last year, that number sunk to an NHL low of .881.
So far, the Sharks are off to a better start, with Blackwood stopping 51 of 52 shots in the Sharks’ 2-1 shootout loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday. After the game, Blackwood was quick to credit his teammates for keeping most shot attempts to the perimeter, but also Speer for the work they’ve done together over the last several weeks.
“He’s been good. Lots of help for me, working on keeping my game tight, not overplaying stuff, and keeping my feet underneath me a little bit more,” Blackwood said. “If you get stuck, re-adjust, and keep moving. Staying square. So just a lot of little stuff that we’ve kind of chipped away at, but it all adds up to something big.”
Not surprisingly, Blackwood will get the start again on Tuesday when the Sharks face Brent Burns and the Carolina Hurricanes at SAP Center. But with the way the Sharks’ schedule unfolds this month, with seven games over the next 13 days, both Blackwood and Kaapo Kahkonen figure to get a fair amount of work.
Speer worked with Kahkonen last season, helping to change his game and improve his confidence. Kahkonen had a .895 save percentage in his final 18 games last season compared to a .869 mark over the first 19 games.
Kahkonen played well in the preseason and aside from one goal late in the second period, Quinn felt the Finnish-born netminder had a positive outing in the Sharks’ 4-1 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights last Thursday.
“The one thing about (Speer), he cares so much about the guys he coaches,” Quinn said. “Great tactician, but he has the ability to connect with the people he’s coaching and that’s what makes him a great coach.
“He doesn’t coach everybody the same. He knows every guy’s a little bit different. … But the connection he creates with his goalies is pretty special.”
Quinn said that after Saturday’s game, no one was happier for Blackwood than Kahkonen.
“Big hug, big smile,” Quinn said. “To me, you can’t win (on the ice) until you win in (the locker room). We think we got two guys that could do that, which would make it difficult for the coach. But those are great problems to have.”
Certainly, that’s where the Sharks want to get to under Speer. who is in his 11th year as a goalie coach, working with both amateurs and professionals at a variety of levels. Before he came to the Sharks, Speer spent three seasons with the Stockton Heat, the former AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames.
“I’ve had coaches that I’ve gotten along with, but it’s nice to have a guy here that you get to spend every day with that knows the game, knows my game, and knows what I need to do. Very detailed,” Blackwood said. “And you get to know him, he’s a great guy. So far, everything has been great.”
