Sketch dump!

Quick update: I changed the way I draw the characters' faces*. I hope you don't mind the change

First time doing proper ref sheet-type things of them. Thought that it would come in handy later

*If you haven't been keeping up with the lore:

I always have trouble with drawing faces, so I decided to try creating a hybrid art style, where the face is cartoony/more show-like and the body in my regular semi-realistic style. I call this the "sanity art style" because it keeps me sane

Now does it look a bit uncanny? Perhaps, but that just makes me like it even more teehee

Anyway, *throws the rest of the sketches of varying quality at you*

Notes:

First time succesfully drawing Dev, Cosmo and Wanda! (Hazel still has to stay in the oven for a while) It usually takes a few tries for me to nail the way I draw the characters (that's why I usually draw their canon designs first), so they might still change a bit

Btw the notes next to the sketches aren't important. I sometimes just write them for my own sake

My "sketchbook" was actively falling apart while I was scanning the drawings. It's actually just some 30-year-old notebook with easily removable pages, so I had to glue the pages back together after the session. I'm honestly surprised how nice the texture of the paper is though! Much better than many of my other sketchbooks

Also all my red pens that I've used are starting to approach their end. Probably a good time to go look for a new one from my drawer soon

Well won't you look at that. Peri finally put some clothes on

Also hey, look at that! The year changed. Happy New Year guys!! I'm so glad it's 2015 now

Okay so I MIGHT have made a few tweaks to his design again, so here's a list of them (I'm not talking about the clothes. They are just a tool so that those working with humans can conform to their social norms)

I made the "hair flame" look fluffier and closed the awkward gap created by the swirl

The gradient in his wings switched from "light to dark" to "dark to light" (dark at the top, lighter at the edges)

The position of the back wings changed. The larger wings are now at the top and the smaller ones underneath them

The eyes on his wings can close (though the eye on the long back feather(s) (the tail-looking thing which is actually attached to the lower back wings) is almost always open)

I have also started to redesign other characters to fit in the AU, but since I want to go to sleep now, you'll have to wait until next time

I almost didn't feel like peeling my skin off when making this! We're making progress! (Context: I've had a lot of difficulties when it comes to drawing digitally. I talked more about it in a previous post)

I was very close to going back to painting traditionally again (which I still do from time to time) until I opened Krita again and realized that it just works far better for me compared to Procreate (many of my previous artworks were made with that program). So yeah, I'll probably just fully switch to Krita now. Bye bye, Nikko Rull. You will be missed </3

Not even Sweden, arguably the most popular of the 5 countries, didn't get their flag shown in the season 2, episode 1: "Christmas Every Day"-episode of the Fairly OddParents GGRRAAAAAAH

I would like to note, however, that I'm a bit sad that they chose to locate Santa Claus in the fictional "Nort Pole" instead of Rovaniemi, Finland, where he actually resides (this is true, look it up), smh /hj. At least the reindeer looked kinda good. They're still brown which isn't accurate, but at least they don't look like regular deer which I always hated

Sorry if this week’s post was a bit too freaky, something possessed me again

So, context to what’s happening: uhh Peri and Dale are ummm doing something and err they don’t want to get caught and stuff… or, well at least Dale doesn’t want to. Poor dude always has that terrified and tired look in his eyes when I draw him

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but like my vision of their relationship is the COMPLETE OPPOSITE to what I've seen most people imagine. Like I have not seen ANYBODY make them be like "I will fix him and it's actually working +it's kinda wholesome" (okay, well actually it's a bit more complicated than that, but still). Though that could probably be because I'm the only one with a lethal amount of microplastics in their body /j

Still, I hope that at least some of you can fw it (considering my follower count has risen from 30 to 50 in a matter of a few months, maybe you do care. Or then you're just here for the art/AU/something else and the ship is just something you'll have to deal with lmao, that would be hella funny)

I’m having trouble with my art style again! I mean the current style looks nice. It’s got the roughness and the edge I’m looking for, but it still lacks a certain softness. All the artists I’ve gotten inspiration from paint traditionally, so trying to recreate the same vibe is difficult when all the digital brushes feel too… digital, and fake

I’m currently in a weird transition phase where my art, especially my rendering style, isn’t consistent. Maybe I’ll figure something out. We’ll see. In the meantime, don't be surprised if my style changes a bit with each post lol

MOE (Missionarirs of Eden) AU Peri and Irep in a nutshell

I know I said I would draw more ship art BUT the AU just got a HUGE update* and I had to make something silly related to it

Peri is giving big Steven Universe energy in this one. Peace and love on the planet Earth, am I right

Also hey, look at that! First look at what my AU Irep looks like! (If we don't count the outdated drawings I made)

*So, what's the update?

Note: fairies are called angels and anti-fairies are called demons, if you still didn't know. Both of them are called "children of God"

As you could probably guess from the image, the updated lore has to do with the children of God (angels and demons) wanting to cleanse the Earth from what they qualify as sin**. They just have different ideas about how it should be done.

The angels believe that life should be preserved, but that they have a right to intervene so that sin that comes from it can be minimized. Especially difficult are humans, who not only destroy others and their environment greatly, but also themselves (among many other things), giving them the highest sin rate of any species. To combat this, the godparenting programme was initiated***.

The demons have a more neutral reception towards life, but since the angels have power over the universe and them, they have mutually agreed on following their command. This means that their mission is also to purify the Earth from as much sin as possible, though they are not as devoted as the angels are and instead they want to kill and eat those causing the most harm. This is due to the fact that the demons can't get energy from their God**** and they have to rely on external sources, like suns, planets and living beings (whose flesh many have come to love).

To create balance between the two sides, the scribes (a.k.a. the pixies. Yes, they're back and I renamed them again) were created to keep track of the amount of sin on Earth, more specifically the amount each species create. As long as the total is under a certain limit, the demons are not allowed to kill any of the members of that species (though they do hunt creatures, including humans, from time to time).

Explanations:

** There is no definite answer to what counts as sin, and the angels' criteria comes purely from what they think their God deems bad (demons follow the same guidelines). These include things such as change and disruption of the natural order, greed, for social species: engaging in antisocial behaviour, etc. Children of God can also sin by breaking their law or forming a relationship with a child of Eden (a.k.a. any biological being, *cough cough*... I'm looking at you, Peri) including other things.

Note: some actiong may cause more sin than others

*** The godparenting programme includes taking care of children ages 4 to 18. They target those who have a medium to a high risk of creating sin as an adult, but who also have a high chance of not sinning if they're helped. This results in the overall sin rate to hopefully shrink with each generation.

**** The angels' God works like a giant battery that provides the angels with a constant flow of energy, while the demons' God works the opposite. In essence, the angels and demons work as gateways for energy to pass through from one side to the other.

Once the angels' God has used up all its energy, the angels will die and when all the energy (including matter) from the universe gets consumed by the demons, they die too. Once all the energy has been collected to the other God, it will create a new universe for the energy to pass through again. This cycle will go on forever, though that isn't too relevant to the plot of the AU, since the children of God are not even aware of this cycle.

TLDR:

The angels (fairies) want to get rid of sin by helping, while the demons (anti-fairies) want to get rid of it by killing and eating them. Since they don't want to fight, they created the scribes (pixies) to keep count of the amount of sin on Earth. They agreed that as long as there isn't too much sin, the demons are not allowed to kill anybody.

Some quick things / more headcanons I guess:

I know I don't draw Dale wearing his usual outfit, but there's a reason! I decided that whenever he wants to show off he'll sport his usual style, but when he's at home and doesn't feel like socializing, he'll change to that. Maybe you'll get to see his uglyass boots one day

I also changed Dale's appearance a bit by giving him freckles that he hides anyway because he thinks it makes him look childish (same with the curly hair)

Peri received a middle part (semi-accidentally). I was struggling for the longest time to make his hair look believable, so this is what I came up with. You might even see from my previous artworks how his hair changes over time lol

I'm actually tweaking again

You know the AU I've been working on for the past few months? I realized that I have to rewrite like EVERYTHING that happened in the original series because of all the small changes in my version. To be honest it shouldn't technically matter what happens exactly before season 1 (of FOP:NW) since the AU mostly revolves around after those events, but having the past figured out could help a lot

So yeah, more "coming up with seemingly random plotlines that have nothing to do with the source material, diverging it more and more with each passing moment" for me <3 (the AU is filled with those)

Hhhh what is with me never being satisfied with the original media and insisting on creating these overly complicated alternative versions of it. It's like an endless circle of unintentionally torturing myself because I like to be creative lmao. LIKE THIS IS A CHILDREN'S SHOW WE'RE TALKING ABOUT. WHY AM I TRYING TO MAKE IT SERIOUS 😭😭 I'm sobbing

Though, I suppose I wouldn't be making them if I didn't enjoy it

After deciding to change the angels' (fairies) designs for what I hope is the last time (I've redesigned them like 6 times now HELP), allow me to introduce you:

Biblically accurate (Missionaries of Eden AU) Peri

So yeah! He got a new look (though his human form still stays the same)

Since I somehow managed to make my Peri look even less like his original counterpart, allow me to explain some of my design choices:

Probably the most notable thing about all my depictions of angel Peri and gang is that they're often quite unclothed. This is due to their belief that God (yes, they exist in the AU) had given their bodies as a gift, and thus it would be disrespectful to cover it. At the same time though, since they've concentrated their aid towards humans, they understand that they can't be completely naked

The head is their soul*, which resembles a flame (flames are sometimes used symbolically to represent souls)

The large feathers on the back ("tail") are meant to resemble a peacock's tail when closed (I had originally planned the angels to have more features that resemble real life birds)

The six wings and eyes on them indicate that he's a cherubim (seraphims have eight wings and thrones don't have eyes on theirs)

I will most likely make a separate post where I go more into detail about everything I've come up with for these little critters (trust me, there's a LOT of stuff)

Instead of wands, angels have their stars floating on top of them. Peri's star is inside a bubble similar to what he has in the show

The feet are a bit of a mystery to me still. I kind of like the look of them just having those stumps (there is no deeper meaning to it)

*in this context the soul of an angel/demon is the part where they're connected physically to God in the higher dimension (it might be a bit hard to understand, so I probably need to explain it in further detail later)

I was originally supposed to show Cosmo and Wanda's redesigns aswell, but since I'm currently a bit busy with irl stuff, I wasn't able to finish the sketches for this post (they're coming later, I promise). The demons (anti-fairies) were also redesigned!

Also I found out there's a Finnish dub on Netflix and I'm kinda scared lmao. Finnish is a language that is hard to make sound natural, and from what I heard from my friend, the dub is not great (not like I expected it to be)

GUYS. I JUST THOUGHT OF THE CRAZIEST THING EVER (again). WHAT IF IN AN ALTERNATIVE UNIVERSE VICKY WAS DEV'S BIOLOGICAL MOM!

(I don't know if this is something worth warning about, but I superficially talk about domestic abuse in my ramblings. So just a heads up if you don't like reading about fictitious violence)

OKAY OKAY OKAY, HEAR ME OUT ON THIS ONE!!! So I've had a headcanon that Dale is a victim of domestic abuse and that's why he's hesitant to get close to anybody +other things that are also a result of it (I've said this multiple times now: there is NO way he's mentally stable in the canon). We also don't know who Dale had a child with, so I just always imagined it was just some random psychopathic woman, maybe a previous manager or something. But then, like a week ago, I realized how well Vicky would fit into the role of the abuser.

I mean think about it. After Dale "quit" from making lemonade, Vicky was probably pretty mad to see someone she saw inferior to her get all the fame and fortune (this is what we also see in the show). So what if she somehow, after many years of being incredibly salty, got in contact with him, gaslit him into thinking she wasn't as bad as he remembered, manipulated him into getting married (to make sure she gets to inherit his estate when he dies (spoilers! Kinda)) and without his full will had a child (for whatever benefits she might get from that). And then after that she would attempt to murder him to finish her scheme, only for him to survive. After that she probably either gets imprisoned or manages to make herself look like a victim too or something. Considering her track record of never getting punished for her actions, it's probably the latter.

(I know she doesn't HAVE to try to kill him at the end, but it fits the narrative I've built. Also sorry if this got a bit dark, you'll just have to get used to it)

I know all of this wouldn't be possible in the canon, but I still kinda like the idea. It integrates Vicky into the story quite well while also giving her some more depth. This is absolutely going into my AU btw. I'm not sure if somebody has thought of this before me. Maybe one has, who knows.

So, funny story: I had a dream last night where I was pregnant for some unknown reason (kinda weird), and it made me think, what if Dale and Peri had a child together along with already having Dev. Pretty cute imo. One problem though, Peri (according to my headcanon) is trans (FTM. Fairy biology still implies) and Dale is a cis man, so neither of them could give birth.

Then I remembered the existence of magic, so perhaps with the help of that, Peri could get pregnant and then have the child and all would be great. Yippee! But then, from the deep crevices of my mind, a much crazier idea crept up…

What if Dale was the one carrying the child?

This lead, unsurprisingly, to a mini war in my head. On one hand it's unexpected and I think it would be interesting to imagine how the characters would react (also imaging Dale voulnerable is one of my favorite things). But then on the other hand I'm incredibly self-aware of how diabolical this sounds and it's making me cringe.

Here's a visual depiction of my mind rn:

I've let these characters marinate in my head for far too long. They’ve become soft and severely Agerfied*. I have to keep reminding myself of what they're like canonically

*Agerfication is the process where a character starts to morph to my liking, a common occurrence

Omg! Ager drew something other than Peri or Dale! Let's take a look, shall we

Wow! It's Irep 😍 what a cutiepie (I finally discovered the beauty of scanning. The images are so high quality I'm crying)

You wanna hear something funny though: the design on the right is OUTDATED (typical me-thing). 5 minutes after I drew it I decided that he will not have bat wings. I was thinking I would replace them with either "chicken wing daggers" or "bird feet w/sharp claws" (I made a poll on my story on Instagram and I think people like the chicken wings more). Also I might give him regular hands like what I did on the left

There's also some updates to the AU I've made, but I don't have time to explain today. I really need to make a synopsis post on everything I've planned for the AU, but you'll have to wait at least a week probably (exam week is aproaching❤️)
