One of the funniest things about TLM to me is that Finn, a ten year old kid, managed to create a well-structured movie plot with interesting characters by sitting in his basement in secret playing with Legos.

On the JCF, they are currently discussing the forthcoming Rey film...90% of them are huge Finn fans but some of them make interesting points. And when several insisted that Rey’s film will be a hit ‘if ST fans rally around’....this is what one fan said:

This website is frequented by Star Wars fans, most of which are generally positively predisposed to new Star Wars content. None of us really want to actually see bad Star Wars content, we all want to see good stuff being made. Outside of these forums, I generally see more negativity towards the ST and towards a new Rey movie to be honest. And while the internet is not the real world, and while I believe this new Rey movie could do generally well, I find it hard to believe that it will do great. I think I'd rather see ORIGINAL films with black actors being cast in the lead role. But of course, HW is too chicken to do anything original these days. 🙄 Just about everything is based on a book, a former film, a sequel, or a "reboot" now days cuz they know or will bring automatic revenue 😭

Warning! Long ramble about Rex ahead!

I've been doing a lot of thinking about this scene. I'll try my best to organize my thoughts!

(heads up: This is operating under the assumption that (basically) everything that happens in the movies is real.)

To begin with, we gotta address the irony of this line... Like, Rex, you do realize that you're just a piece of plastic too, right? And so is Emmet?

But before I look at that, I wanna touch on the line he says right after that,

"You still wanna go back to the Matrix when you know the truth???"

Now, I haven't seen The Matrix, I'll admit to that. But because it's ingrained in pop culture, I know the gist of it.

But anyway, one obvious truth from it is that once you're aware the world is a simulation, you can never really go back completely, not without sacrifice, because you know it's not real.

Now, call me captain obvious, but by his line there, he clearly can't be referring to his time on Undar--because Emmet hadn't experienced that, nor had he understood when Rex told him about it. I'm convinced he has to be referring to the first movie, and their experience in the Realm of the Man Upstairs.

While he was there in the first movie Emmet saw his world for what it was. He saw Finn playing with Benny's spaceship, hinting at the kind of control Finn had over his world. but Emmet himself interacts with Finn himself.

As far as Emmet knows... He's different. He's not under Finn's control. All of his friends? Things made up by a giant unknown creature. But not him.

He knows the nature of his world, but is still happy to rejoin it, so long as he has a place in it...

But then came Undar.

On Undar he sees, yet again, the absolute lack of control his world has. The moment Finn leaves the picture and Bianca takes over, it's as if he never existed in the first place. He doesn't recognize his friends, because the personalities he'd come to know, literally, the people he knew, were completely gone.

It's there that he realizes that they truly are pieces of plastic.

I can't imagine how fucking lonely that must have felt. To see how little your life truly mattered in the universe, that you could be warped and changed without recognition and be none the wiser, to know who you were was as inconsequential as a thought.

As far as Rex knows, he and Emmet are the only Real ones in existence. The only ones that can retain who they are.

Rather ironic, again, when we see how much Rex changes himself.

So when he says "You still wanna go back to The Matrix?" it's more so incredulity that he, as Emmet, ever wanted to go back, that he ever put any value into the world that was nothing but an illusion.

This could also explain why Rex was so quick to turn on Emmet in Undar. Once he saw Emmet wasn't going to change, was never going to give up on his fantasy world, he had no problem seeking to destroy him. In the Realm of the Man Upstairs, knew he would live on, since he's Real. He could get rid of this failure, further cementing himself as Rex, and move on to the next timeline to try again.

It's when Lucy enters the picture and brings back Imagination that things go to shit for Rex. Outside of the Realm of the Man Upstairs they're under the giant beings' control again. What happens here is out of Rex's ability to change.

And, sure enough, Finn has him disappear.

It's just... So, so fucking sad. Can you just imagine how many nights Emmet must have lain awake during those five years, bearing the weight of his knowledge of the entire world on his shoulders? Knowing everything was an illusion?? His home, his friends, Lucy, all just the product of a child's imagination???

No wonder Emmet was able to move on so easily once Rex disappeared.

It really was easier for him to forget the nature of The Matrix and just rejoin it and be happy. Having to deal with the weight of it would crush and mangle him, the way it had Rex.

I think Emmet's characterization in the beginning of the movie and his involvement in the resistance and touching the piece reflects Finn's perception of how his dad wants him to behave and making Emmet a construction worker already gives him a little leeway into the creativity of construction which could provide Finn catharsis of creativity but still rigid enough to follow the orders of his higher ups aka his dad

I hope I'm wrong but I suspect one of the many reasons TROS destroyed reylo is because Daisy wanted it. The #metoo movement came out either shortly after TLJ or at the same time, and I believe they have links to DLF - they even acted as 'consultants' with their live action TLM and were responsible for watering down Prince Eric's character and also the romance between him and Ariel.

Daisy went from liking reylo art post TFA and describing Kylo as the one 'nurturing' Rey in TLJ to suddenly announcing that 'Rey doesn't need a boyfriend' and 'I can't personally get behind the relationship' shortly before TROS was released. At the time I was convinced she'd been 'got at'. The amount of flak I got from posters on the JCF because I'm a reylo, culminating in my perma ban for mentioning Ben in a Finn thread, plus seeing an article on Medium news describing reylo as a 'white supremacist ship', has convinced me that reylo was just too controversial in this current climate. Daisy had to protect her career.

Which is why I am positively seething at the hints of an 'enemy to lovers' storyline in The Acolyte. DLF aren't just being unkind - they are being cruel, to reylos. The last straw for me is the way some are speculating that Qimir's backstory 'can be explored' more in a tv series than that of Ben Solo in the films. Ben's story could easily have been 'explored'; unfortunately Disney were too busy pushing Saint Rey and her own acolyte, Finn, down our throats.

Maybe they were the characters that could have featured in a tv series - and the final chapters of the Skywalker Saga could have been about the last actual Skywalker.

The Acolyte ship is an evil/evil dynamic, so I would argue it's not meaningfully the same thing as Reylo. But I think they are trying to pander to it a little bit, yes, completely missing the point of what made the ship attractive. He's very violent with her in a way Kylo Ren never was with Rey which I just find really sad. That was never the draw for me personally (and strangulation is a hard line for me, which is why I don't really like Anidala, even if I ship it cosmically).

But the fact that they cast someone very conventionally attractive as the bad guy is really funny. Like we're all shallow airheads who only liked Kylo Ren because he was hot.

Really?? So is it pure visuals or do people think the characters will actually push each other in a positive direction?

I do get a little disgruntled at people's 'that's all reylo is' shitposts about finding the villain hot or finding threatening/strangulation hot or whatever. I realise these are jokes mocking antis for getting so up in arms about very standard bodice ripper tropes which have been hugely popular forever and it's fine, but that's not at all what reylo is to me.

I talked a long time ago about how I'm not really a villain fucker and don't generally like that many etl pairings. Pretty much for the same reasons I don't like rival-shipping and because, like you, I'm not into the violence. It's not a deal breaker for me if there's violence between the ship before they develop a connection, obviously, but I don't find it titillating and don't want to see the violence itself portrayed as sexual. I can't stand hate as sexual tension and etl ships are very prone to that.

I'm here for the B&tB of it all, personally. To me reylo is about hope, healing, and compassion. About two lost and lonely souls truly seeing and recognising each other when no one else did and helping one another become their best, most authentic selves. They free each other from bondage and pain.

If Ben were actually a Sexy Bad Boy or DFP, I wouldn't ship it. Him not being that is the entire reason it appeals to me. If he'd seen her as a rival or resented her in the way people often write in fics, I wouldn't ship it. He never hated her and she stops hating him as soon as she realises he's not a monster, their attraction comes from a place of sympathy and curiosity on both sides not from jealousy or covetousness--that's why they're OTP. This is among the many things tros fucked up.

Some tlm headcannons because i was inspired by some other posts (some of them are rather lgbt+ or angsty because YES)

1. Emmet still has nightmares about what he did to the Systar system. He's afraid that he might eventually snap and become just like Rex; Betrayed, vengeful and genocidal. (He nearly killed everyone in the entire galaxy after all)

2. At the same time however, Emmet still misses Rex terribly. It felt good to have someone like him around, despite what his true personality and motives were. Emmet still wishes he could have found a way to save Rex, and help his alternate self redeem himself.

3. Emmet and Lucy occasionally binge-watch movies and shows on the double-decker couch at night together, mostly really bad ones that they love to laugh at. Occasionally they fall asleep mid-binge, so Unikitty gently props them on her back and takes them to their room to place them in their bed.

4. Unikitty is a loud and proud lesbian that doesn't care at all what bigoted people think about her.

5. Meanwhile Sweet Mayhem is a closeted lesbian. She isn't too sure how to tell anyone yet, as she fears she might get rejected by the people that are close to her.

6. Back in his youth, President Business had a fiance, but she dumped him because he became too hungry for power.

7. Unikitty forgave Bad Cop for destroying her home, acknowledging that he was simply a puppet being manipulated by his boss. She still hasn't forgiven Business, though.

8. Bruce introduced Robin to Watevera, to which both immediately grew attached to one another, becoming a makeshift mother-son duo

9. Sweet Mayhem and Benny are best friends and love to stargaze together.

10. Lucy is a male-leaning Bisexual.

11. Balthazar is a gay, transgender man.

12. Lucy has had difficulties in the past with relationships, not just romantic ones.

13. Finn does subconsciously believe that the characters are alive, seeing how he saw Emmet move of his own free will, and heard the others singing from the storage box. He denies he does, though.

Okay now that that's out of the way, let's talk The Apocalypse.

I recently posted some concept art that had some rather dark implications. Of course, this was gonna lead to some theories and speculation. @strawberri-doggo and my friend @lilacs-stash pointed out that this could mean that the reason the Batfam from The Lego Batman Movie were not in the Lego Movie 2 was because they died during the Apocalypse. Because I refuse to let anything bad happen to them, allow me to propose a theory of my own!

Gotham is in a separate location in The Man Upstairs's house/basement that was not included in the 5-year Apocalypse between the first and second Lego Movies

Allow me to explain.

Evidence 1, which is actually a refute of evidence that could prove me wrong: So we see Harley Quinn twice in the Lego movies. We got our girlboss from the Lego Batman Movie and we got the DCCU Harley in The Lego Movie 2. This could be used to argue that Harley is one of the sole Gotham survivors alongside Batman and Alfred.

However, I firmly believe that these are two different Harley Quinns. It's already been confirmed that the Upstairs family (yes I'm treating "Upstairs" like it's their last name) own duplicates of characters:

So, considering the fact that the two Harleys look different, are from different properties, have different personalities, and are voiced by different people, it's not out of the question to believe that they're completely different Harleys.

Evidence 2: The Finn-pocalypse

So, the reason the 5-year Apocalypse happens is because Finn wants to make his own builds that are cooler and grittier than the things his dad made. One thing that often gets overlooked (by myself as well until I started researching this) is that Finn straight up nuked EVERYTHING that his dad made.

This is a pretty good look at the downstairs table in the first Lego movie.

And here's that same table in the second movie

It's all GONE.

Where did it all go??

Well, I believe that, in order to create the bada$$ apocalypse world Finn pictured in his head, he just mashed everything together.

Using the map Lord Business used in the first Lego movie and the screenshot of Finn with the storage bin, we can kind of see where we are in the basement. On the back wall we can see a space diorama of sorts. This *could* be Cape Space on the map below.

And as we know, Apocalypseburg was mainly based on Bricksburg (I don't know if the Bricksburg ruins in the movie are literal or not so I'm not gonna think about them too much), so the circled Bricksburg section is likely the table that became Apocalypseburg's setting. Everything around it sounds rife for creating an edgy desert wasteland. Pharaoh's Quest has plenty of sand and desert colored blocks, Middle Zealand has stone buildings and armor that can be repurposed, and the Old West is, yep, more desert pieces.

So anything that was in the area around Bricksburg, Finn nuked and conglomerated into his Apocalypseburg design. However, as the classic space on the back wall appears to be untouched, it's likely Finn saw no need to mess with any properties that weren't in the space he wanted to work with.

In the first movie, Finn's dad is startled that Batman is among the Fellowship of Strangers.

The Man Upstairs: What am I holding here?

Finn: It's a battleship.

The Man Upstairs: No, it's a hodgepodge that's what it is. What's Batman doing on it?

I believe that this line implies that Gotham, which is not pictured on Business's map (although there are a few unlabeled areas, I feel like Gotham would rival Bricksburg's size and would be acknowledged) is far enough away from Bricksburg that The Man Upstairs doesn't understand why he'd be in the city.

I think that Gotham was not added to the Apocalypseburg conglomerate, as it didn't take up space that Finn wanted to use for Apocalypseburg and it didn't have pieces he needed. The only reason Finn grabbed Batman from Gotham for The Lego Movie 2's game plotline is simply because Batman was important to the plot he made when he was a kid that he now wants to wrap up. He grabbed Alfred as well because, let's admit it, apocalypse Alfred is a funny concept. And the way Finn plays him, Batman needs someone to order around!

So, Gotham is just fine guys. Dick is waiting for his dad to come back from visiting his old stomping grounds with his guardian Barbara Gordon, and the Joker makes sure to send Batsy plenty of hate mail. They're okay.
