the lego gang playing uno!!! emmet has been interrupting the game nonstop to check the rules for half an hour

I have a soft spot for aus where Emmet is found before he gets out of Undar and goes on his whole villain arc.

But I do think that the way he reacts after being rescued will heavily depend on when during those 5 years he ends up being found.

Around 1 year, he's probably going to bounce back pretty quickly. Sure it still hurts to think about how long he was in Undar, and all the things he saw, but his friends still found him! They didn't abandon him! He just won't think about any of the horrifying discoveries he made there.

Year 2 is similar to 1, it's just that now, the knowledge of the world of the man upstairs will weigh more heavily on him.

So along with the longer sad and depressive episodes he has, he's also going to be spilling a lot of out-of-pocket facts about the real world that'll confuse everyone around him.

Year 3 is when he's starting to lose hope at being found, so when his doubts at being found are destroyed, he's going to start off ecstatic. Emmet is going to run around Syspocalypstar as soon as he can, trying to absorb all of the new information with the same enthusiasm the 'old' Emmet would have.

And then a week later all of his trauma from Undar is going to hit him out of nowhere, and because he's scared Lucy and the others will leave him because now he's 'damaged', Emmet is going to try and push all of it down.

Of course that doesn't end well, and then he just ends up spending a lot of the time quiet and miserable, fearing that one wrong move will leave him abandoned and isolated again.

Year 4- oh ho- yeah this is where the rage at how his friends treated him starts. He's had 4 years now to look back on his life, so all of the mistreatment is going to stand out very clearly.

Being saved after 4 years is going to feel like a dream to Emmet, so he will spend around a week to so getting used to just existing out of Undar.

Once he fully processes that the people who treated him like he was replaceable actually did come back for him,he's going to avoid the heck out of all of them.

The memories of how easily they seemed to move on with their lives is still fresh in his mind, so coming back to reality and seeing how easily they expect him to go back to 'normal' is... infuriating to say the least.

And then we have Year 5. Where he is a mix of angry and sad, and constantly about to have a meltdown of some kind. I think even after being saved, this is when he's going to resemble Rex the closest.

Emmet has now had 5 years to stew in all of the knowledge of how his world really works, and 2 years to let that anger take root. No one's gonna have a good time.

He's going to spend a lot of time just staring at everyone, more or less sizing them up and trying to figure out why it took 5 years to find him. Any attempts to make him feel better is just met with blank stares or calculating gazes.

Emmet is not used to all of the comfort his friends are giving him, he was the one that would provide the comfort, but having them do it feels wrong. So what does he do? He blocks them out and spends time by himself, trying to gain his footing after all that has happened.

Though- regardless of when he is saved, the boy is going to have so. much. trauma.

It's the later years where he clashes with his friend the most, because that's when the betrayal and results of his isolation really hit him like a train.

On one hand, you have a man who's been put through hell and back, and is expected to act the same way he was before his whole worldview crumbled.

On the other hand, you have a group of friends who really want their friend back and want to treat him better than they used to, because they had to experience life with him gone and found it awful.

It's not a good combonation.

Sonic AU Idea

Y’all remember the Metal Virus in IDW? Of course you do what am I talking about

Well lots of people were all “oh imagine the angst if sonic got fully corrupted!”

Has anyone considered the idea of a Zombot Sonic… not attacking innocents? And I don’t mean in the “oh but there’s still good in him 🥺” way. He’ll still attack anyone in his way, but imagine that unlike other Zombots, Sonic isn’t aiming for infection of just anyone.

No, imagine a Zombot Sonic whose biggest target is Dr. Eggman himself.

Let’s say this happens during Sunset City’s invasion. Sonic becomes completely corrupted much to his friends’ horror and yet- instead of attacking the survivors, he runs off. (Unlike Shadow, Sonic’s speed isn’t enabled by his shoes. His speed is a physical aspect, and it’s established than any physics capabilities of victims are carried over to Zombot form.)

I like to imagine this takes place when Shadow arrives. The change here is that Sonic picks up that Shadow isn’t taking his warnings seriously and—instead of running like intended—spins around to try and impress upon him the severity. Sonic argues, exhaustion and frustration clouding his mind. But Shadow still won’t listen.

Shadow turned back to the imminent threat, ignoring the garbled frustrations of his rival.

He heard Sonic growl, his voice talking on an electric warble. “Why won’t you just listen to m-“

Silence. Then, a gasp and screams from the survivors. Shadow glanced over his shoulder… and his eyes widened in surprise.

“He’s one of them!”

“He failed! Sonic’s failed!”

“I-If Sonic couldn’t fight ‘em, what hope do we have?”

“Who’s gonna save us!”

“We’re all gonna die!”

“Everyone! Please calm down and get inside the truck!” Rouge yelled from somewhere within.

But Shadow could only stare. Sonic had become a Zombot and gazed at the other hedgehog with a coldness he’d never seen grace the hero’s face.

The situation just got much, much worse.

Shadow readied his battle stance.

Yet- Yet Sonic didn’t move. Not at first. He snarled but, instead of leaping at Shadow, he turned his head toward the west… and took off.

Shadow continues fighting, this time being far more cautious, and helps the transport truck escape. Shadow is then the one tasked with stopping Sonic, as the only one who can match his speed. (Since Sonic is high level threat, it’s doesn’t take much to convince). Using Sonic’s communicator, they’re able to track his coordinates, but there’s no rhyme or reason to his path… at first.

“Its almost like he’s… searching for something.” Tails pondered.

Shadow gets there and Eggman tries placing the agent between himself and Sonic. Sonic charges at Shadow… but then completely runs around him and at the doctor. Shadow tried fighting, but quickly realizes that Sonic’s ignoring him in favor of trying to infect Eggman.

See, Sonic has been fighting Eggman practically his whole life—it’s second nature at this point—and, let’s be honest, Sonic was wracking up quite the anger directed at the doctor. Because this is fanfiction, let’s say that this instinct somewhat influences Zombot Sonic.

Zombot Sonic is the biggest threat at this point. Not just because of his physical prowess, but also because his version of the virus is so mutated, it infects at a higher rate than its sister-mutation. The one solace that Sonic’s friends have?

That Zombot Sonic’s sole target is Eggman.

On one hand, no one would feel any pity for Eggman to fall at the hands of his own virus. On the other hand… If Eggman’s infected, who would Zombot Sonic target next?

So it kinda becomes into this weird thing of both keeping Eggman uninfected while also using him as bait.

I think the idea of Zombot Sonic being able to track down Eggman could be potentially terrifying. Constantly on the move. Nothing stopping him. No matter where Eggman runs, no matter where Eggman hides; Zombot Sonic can and will find him.

gotta give it to emmet for lasting 5 WHOLE YEARS in Undar with that state. I mean, not snapping for 5 years while being paralyzed under a giant washing machine and at the same time being fully aware of what your friends are doing is quite impressive

Emmet is just painfully used to being ignored by the people around him. He spent most of his adult life before the events of the second movie being ignored by everyone around him, what's five more years?

Especially since he had friends that wanted to be around him.

Emmet is not someone who has a lot of experience with friends, I mean- his first friend we ever see is a houseplant. Named planty. That says a lot about him.

Being unknowingly ignored by who you think are your closest friends can do a lot to someone's psyche, so in Emmet's eyes, as long as he has friends who want to spend time with him? Then he's perfectly content with rolling with whatever they throw at him.

He believes in his friends, he knows how strong they all are, and this belief in them and their abilities is what carries him through most of the years in Undar.

But let's be honest. No matter how loyal Emmet was to his friends, it would still hurt terribly from watching how happy they all seemed to be without him.

I think it's around the 3 year mark where the grounds of his belief in them starts to crack, and a few months later it crumbles away until the only thing left is rage.

Ik your poll for Emmetstyle fics are over but here are a few more ideas!! Idk they've just been rotating in my brain for so long I just NEED to share em with someone

–Emmet having a family tradition that he misses doing and Lucy (and maybe even Watevra) does it with him

–In a rlly specific au where Rex was found before he became Rex, he sees the rain again for the first time and not realizing how much he missed it, convinces Lucy to go out and dance in the rain with him.

–Emmet invites Lucy on a date only to find that the place they wanted to go to was closed. Lucy suggests breaking in.

–Emmet and Lucy find a lost child who looks scarily like them. While they try to find the parents of the kid, their minds can't help but keep going back to the idea of their own child

OOooooooooo, I love these ideas.

Yeah these are great! I would love to get round to writing these ideas once I'm done with my current fic (and other fandom WIPs).

Hold up lemme do a little something.

#1: Okay so when I think family traditions, the first thing that comes to mind for Emmet in particular is some kind of holiday tradition.

I'm not sure what in particular, but a summer retreat is what I think he would do. Like a lake cabin where he and the others can relax and have fun.

For the past few weeks, Lucy noticed the way Emmet would spend more time to himself. It wasn't... bad per say, but it was strange to see him sneak around like he was hiding something. Emmet was not a naturally secretive person. Honestly the man couldn't lie to save his life. But for some reason, whenever she would walk into a room, he would rush to hide away whatever was in front of him. A blush dusted his cheeks while he stammered out excuses. This was not normal. Lucy didn't like this sudden change in behavior. So, she was going to find out what he was hiding.

#2: Ah the In between, the place where Emmet is right at the edge of falling into the darkness and loneliness that begins the creation of Rex. Fun.

I want to say that he was losing faith in his friends at this point in time, so the moment they find him again, he will be glad to be out of Undar.

But going off my headcanons, he's still going to find out about how little effort they put into the search, and that'll just put him in a constant state of depression.

Emmet stared at the rain hitting the window, eyes following the rain droplets making their way down the glass with a strange intensity that Lucy hadn't seen since they had found him. There was a spark of wonder in his eyes that made something in Lucy's chest ache with guilt. Ever since they accidentally came across that dust planet and found him lying on the ground, lifeless. They noticed how Emmet never smiled as much as he used to, spending more time staring out into space. Sitting on the sofa, she continued to watch him discreetly, seeing how he reached out with one finger to follow a trail of water one of the droplets left on the window.

#3: YOU WANT THEM TO WHAT???? Well dang, Emmet has got to be pretty bummed out for Lucy to go straight to breaking into somewhere to make him feel better.

I guess now it's just a matter of convincing Emmet to go somewhere they're obviously not allowed. Doubt he would ever willingly break into somewhere without a good reason.

Emmet had spent the past week excitedly bouncing around their apartment, looking forward to going out on an official date in who knows how long. They'd both been so busy after armageddon and helping with all the rebuilding efforts, that they could never find any time to themselves. It was only now, when everything has more or less been running smoothly by itself that they managed to plan out a little date night for the two of them. Only, the park was fucking closed. Who closes a park?????

#4: Make them parents. That is all.

Okay I'm just fucking with you, BUT. Emmetstyle as parents does things to my brain chemistry, so that would be a fun little thing to get going.

"Emmet," Lucy said, staring at the child he was holding. "Yeahhhhh?" He replied, smiling awkwardly. The kids grip tightened onto the front of his vest at the scrutinizing gaze Lucy was giving them. "What are you holding?" "...A smoothie?" He gestured to the cup in his other hand, a strained smile stretching across his cheeks. ... Yeah, Lucy wasn't impressed with his answer.

Imagine an au where Emmet was found in Undar before turning to Rex.

Ofc, he'd be all depressed and sad and stuff. It seemed like no matter how much his friends would try, Emmet would just never smile or laugh again.

And then one day, when they were all just hanging out in Emmet's and Lucy's house, making sure to keep Emmet company out of guilt, they suddenly heard it:

Emmet's laugh.

Flabbergasted, they all turned to look at what made him laugh and-
