Lesson 10, Ukrainian: Family members
Let's learn some vocabulary associated with family!
Сім`я /seemya/ - family
Батьки /batkee/ - parents
Мати, мама /matee, mama/ - mother, mom
Батько, тато /ba-tko, tato/ - father, dad
Дитина /dytyna // deeteena / - child
Діти / deety / deetee/ - children
Донька /donka/ - daughter
Син /syn/ seen/ - son
Брат /brat/ - brother
Сестра /sestra/ - sister
Бабуся /baboosia/ - grandmother
Дідусь /deedoos/ - grandfather
Тітка /teetka/ - aunt
Дядько /diadko/ - uncle
______
NOTES:
The word 'sibling' doesn't exist in Ukrainian. We normally use words 'brother'/ 'sister' / 'brother and sister' instead of it, depending on the context. There is a corresponding neologism суродженець (m)/суроджениця (f), however, it is still binary (aka has both male and female forms in singular form) and is not used in daily life (either not used at all or used extremely rarely), hence people might not understand you if you decide to use it.
2. Situation with the word 'grandparents' is similar to the situation with the word 'sibling', we normally simply say 'grandmother and granfather' instad of 'grandparents'.

This is so funny.
When the westerners see a post complaining of russophobia they imagine a young queer intellectual stuck in russia, hating the regime to the core and being all bleeding heart for the suffering Ukrainians.
Meanwhile, the same very person complaining of russophobia in one post boasts about literal war trophies brought from the occupied Ukrainian territories by their war criminal father in another, fills their artworks with modern russian military symbols, and tags the posts about their relatives participating in invasion with 'lol memes'.
It is honestly funny how much goodwill russians are still given for absolutely nothing while Ukrainians have to constantly prove that we deserve, well, to at least not be massacred.

"1.6 million Ukrainians have been forcibly deported to Russia by the Russian Army. They go through “filtration camps” where families are often separated and then sent as far as Siberia. Those found disloyal to Russia are imprisoned, tortured, and often summarily executed. Over 5 million Ukrainians have also voluntarily fled into Europe, and 7 million are internally displaced in Ukraine."

Being Ukrainian, born in Russia, with family friends in both countries is an insane experience. A literal distillation of convos from the last few months:
Ukrainians: We haven’t had a full night of sleep since February. No running water for months now, and now the electricity goes out. They’re bombing us non-stop. They aim for the houses at night, and the city center and offices and schools during the day, to kill as many civilians as possible. I sent my daughter to relative safety in Kyiv, but I don’t want to leave my mother, who had a stroke due to war-induced stress and is paralyzed. The hospitals wouldn’t take her because they were full of war casualties. She lies in bed and we hope that a missile doesn’t strike our building, because she can’t go to the bomb shelter. I’ll try to call you next time we get electricity.
Russians: Ugh its so expensive to travel to Turkey right now, we decided to take a two week holiday in Sochi instead. It’s not as nice but we have to persevere. Oh, what’s that? The news? I try not too pay too much attention to it when I’m using my VPN to access instagram and twitter, it just makes me soo sad. You know I’m not political. Hopefully this little war-sy is over soon, because I have to redecorate my house and Ikea is still closed.
Westerners whose entire political philosophy is “vibes” and who think cyrillic is a type of salad: yeah, yeah. bombing, missiles, blah BLAH yawn. Frankly the real war crime is being mean to Russians on the internet.

Russians are robbing Ukrainian people's previous life
Today the world celebrates Family Day. Many Ukrainian parents need to find navigation and senses in life because russians take that away.

Begging folks not to group former soviet and eastern european people's perspective on communism as a single monolithic opinion on the matter. You'll get a range of replies even within a single family if you ask about the USSR!! It's fucking complicated
