no bc paul matthew’s is such an enigma to me. he’s literally just a normal guy. he’s destined to meet the love of his life in every universe. he called her “the latte hottay”. he’s destined to lose her just before they can finally be together. he doesn’t know what he wants. he’s consistently the first to notice or point out the activities of the eldritch beings that toy with his world. he knows it’s inevitable and he’s still trying to tell people. he hates musicals

I took a survey when I left the Country Music Hall of Fame that asked me about "artifacts" in the collection, which isn't wrong but did crack me up as a term to use, so here are two of my favorite weird artifacts:
The photo of the front seat of the car is just so unhinged. I'm going to do the description of it here because I want to make sure you guys notice that this is a white open-top car with front hybrid bench-bucket seats upholstered in leather, but that is where the normalcy ends. The door handles on both outside and inside are made of SIX SHOOTERS with mother-of-pearl grips, the sun shades are embossed leather flaps like cowboy boots might look if you flattened them, and between the two front seats where the gearshift normally goes is a large saddle covered in silver dollars. The horn of the western-style saddle might be the gearshift, it's tough to say. According to a placard nearby, this is the Nudie Mobile, so called because it was customized by "Nudie's Rodeo Tailors" which did a lot of early costume design for country performers.

This image looks more normal but I promise you it is not.

This is a Gibson F-5 mandolin, billed in the placard as the most famous mandolin in American music history, which seems like a low bar to clear, but I'm not a mandolin aficionado. Again, for an image ID, it is an extremely worn-looking eight-string instrument, a fairly standard modern mandolin. It has a number of bare patches and scratches on the soundboard. Wanna know why?
It's because this famous mandolin belonged to Bill Monroe, who bought it from a barbershop (how a Gibson made by Lloyd Loar got into a barbershop is a mystery) in the 40s. He played it for decades until 1985, when an intruder broke in and beat the mandolin to pieces with a fireplace poker. So what you're seeing in that image is the original Gibson -- reassembled from about 150 splintered pieces by Gibson company. Monroe kept playing it, including in recordings, until he died in 1996.
I have to say, I spent maybe five, ten minutes standing in front of it, leaning this way and that, looking like an idiot I'm sure as I tried to detect seams and cracks where it was reassembled, and whoever at Gibson put this back together did a spectacular job. For all it looks kicked to shit in this picture, it looks fantastic in person.

❝ Has the industry's pop princess reign finally come to an end?
She nestled herself deep within everyone’s hearts with the release of her radio-hit single Honey Drip off of her sophomore album Eternally Yours. Dominating the charts at just eighteen years old, and credited by critics for bringing "real" pop back into mainstream music.
It's been two years since the double crossover world tour of her albums Malibu Daydreams and Clueless, released during a break between the North and South American leg of the Dreams Come True tour with the rest of the scheduled shows in the Eastern hemisphere. The pop artist deserves the rest, but it's been three years since her last project and the people are getting restless, especially with the rumors from insiders that new music may be coming soon.
But, the rumor raises a few questions. Will we be seeing the exploration of new genres? Or will she stick with her signature sound, albeit it works for her and the image she’s curated around herself? It’s getting rather tired for the fans to predict, and be correct about their suspicions about the continuous sound of the bubbling pop star. And if this persists will the loyal day-one’s exit with their support in hopes for something that’ll spark that excitement the pop princess was able to achieve when she was first entering the scene? ❞
꒰ Dialogue provided by a TMZ news reporter on the popstar's lackluster factor ︎— via For the Fame's track one : sold your soul for . . . this? ꒱

The Better Man movie has me thinking about the Rock DJ music Video in a new light
I always just assumed the video was a joke and/or deliberately controversial, but given the themes shown in Better Man about Robbie and his relationship to fame and performing around the time the video was made, I can't help but reframe it through the films lens
Starting with singing and dancing to get the crowd's attention, then stripping his shirt off, his pants, even the underwear until he is completely exposed and when that still doesn't work the only thing left to strip off is his very skin, and then literally tearing himself apart to get attention, to be entertaining and worth looking at...
Then they all want a piece of him (again literally depicting the metaphor) until there's nothing recognisably him left, the very end as the song fades out even has him stop dancing and looking down at his hand dejectedly
(I know it's a crowd of girls so it could be read more as what you're willing to do to get a girl, but a crowd is still a crowd)
I might be thinking too much about this but a) that video scarred me as a child and b) just because the song is a party song doesn't mean the video can't have artistic merit

No One Should Idolize Celebrities.
No one realizes it, but celebrities are among the most insecure people out there. Most celebrities are in need of constant validation and have to continuously morph themselves into what others want them to be, just to stay relevant. Aside from their glamorous image, behind the scenes their lives consist of constantly having to ‘put on’ and create fake drama in order to harness a temporary reaction from their audience.
It’s normal to seek inspiration from successful people who influence fashion, art, music or a more successful, desired lifestyle, but to idolize or model yourself after a total stranger just because they’re aesthetically pleasing, rich or popular, is a big no no. Not only are you wasting time warped in an illusion, you’re literally getting scammed by being over-invested in their fake drama and lives (the illusion they show you on social media).
Remember with fame, not all that glitters is gold. These people are not always how they present themselves to be. Take celebrities off the pedestal and instead of obsessing over them, invest your time and energy into your own life.
