The Better Man movie has me thinking about the Rock DJ music Video in a new light

I always just assumed the video was a joke and/or deliberately controversial, but given the themes shown in Better Man about Robbie and his relationship to fame and performing around the time the video was made, I can't help but reframe it through the films lens

Starting with singing and dancing to get the crowd's attention, then stripping his shirt off, his pants, even the underwear until he is completely exposed and when that still doesn't work the only thing left to strip off is his very skin, and then literally tearing himself apart to get attention, to be entertaining and worth looking at...

Then they all want a piece of him (again literally depicting the metaphor) until there's nothing recognisably him left, the very end as the song fades out even has him stop dancing and looking down at his hand dejectedly

(I know it's a crowd of girls so it could be read more as what you're willing to do to get a girl, but a crowd is still a crowd)

I might be thinking too much about this but a) that video scarred me as a child and b) just because the song is a party song doesn't mean the video can't have artistic merit

God they deserve love. They are, in a way, just very scared (very violent) children that just want their mom. It's one of the most basic instincts because when you're scared, alone and confused ofc you just want your mom. Okay, but can you imagine greeting Andy for the first time in a couple weeks? Maybe one of you has been out of town for business, or taking care of a family emergency while the other has to stay home because it was last minute/didn’t require both of you. When you return home after the day, Andy is standing in the kitchen, wiping his hands with a towel as dinner is cooking. Fucking hot.

You drop everything just inside the front door and toe your shoes off, quickly shuffling over to him. He’s leaning against the counter now, arms bracing him on the granite, but he pushes himself off when he finally sees you, a smile growing on his face. He’s still in his work clothes, but the sleeves are rolled up on his dress shirt, giving you a delicious view of his forearms.

He sees the way you’re looking at him, and the smile morphs into more of a smirk, a twinkle of mischief in his eyes. As you saunter the last few steps to him, his hands gravitate to your hips and yours to his chest. He leans in for a kiss that starts slow and sweet, but quickly grows desperate. When you pull away, the two of you look deeply into each other’s eyes, panting lightly.

“Hi. I missed you.”

“I missed you more, Honey.”

Your hands on his chest run up and down his torso before they pull up on his shirt to untuck it. Your fingers are nimbly undoing the buttons as you slip a hand underneath to place flush against the cut of his hip. You just wanted to feel him, be close to him, skin to skin. Your hand doesn’t rest for long, though. There’s no time to simply savor. The two of you strip each other’s clothes off, letting them drop to the kitchen floor. Before you know it, your back is pressed up against the island and Andy is rucking one of your legs up around his hip as he lines up with your entrance. There’s no preparation, only desperation as he slides all the way home, the two of you calling out in a harmonized groan at the feeling of warmth and fullness that you haven’t had for weeks.

If he doesn’t get you to finish at least twice before dinner is ready, you’re cockwarming him through the meal. Well….that’ll probably happen anyway.

Started learning Hungarian for innocent reasons, now I’m slowly horrifying myself
