The scenes of Luke training Percy were so expertly written. He wasn’t just training Percy, he was actively recruiting Percy. He fuels Percy’s anger and mistrust of the gods. He didn’t even need to alter how Percy saw the gods because he could already see the resentment Percy had of his dad, mirroring his own. He was absolutely sure he had Percy on his side but he didn’t account for one thing, Percy’s fatal flaw. Percy’s loyalty to his family and friends supersedes all else. Luke can’t betray Annabeth, almost kill him, Grover and Annabeth, put his mother in a dangerous position, and then expect him to be on his side. That is where he fails.

So there are usually 2 different "hiding da body" culprits in Omari AUs, Aubrey & Hero.
I understand why people would use Hero (I've noticed that it isn't as common anymore), but it usually has to be written well for me to really.. get it? If you understand.
Like, I KNOW it's because he cares a lot about Mari (it's the whole reason he stayed inside for a whole year when she died), but.. it feels like.. super ooc for Hero.
I understand that it's a stressful situation and that he could be not thinking straight, but Hero seems like the kind of guy, no matter the situation, if he sees somebody hurt, to try to help them.. like calling an ambulance in extreme cases like this. He doesn't seem like he would go, "lol let's cover up his death"
Plus, Hero is like.. older than the younger kids, he's said to be 15 in a dialog line in Last Resort, iirc, so he would be more mature, as the younger kids would be 12-13, and there is a BIG mental difference between that.
Plus, Hero would have more common sense? I mean, he just doesn't seem like he would do it.
HOWEVER, I think Aubrey could be more plausible.
Even though Aubrey cares about Sunny, she also cares a lot about Mari. She literally transformed herself completely BECAUSE of Mari's death, and she was willing to basically say, "We aren't friends anymore, Sunny."
People tend to overlook Aubrey when it comes to AUs (especially Omari AUs)/in general. She went through so much, and they only really tend to look at Aubrey to ship her, but Aubrey has problems. She was literally growing up in an abusive household for gods sake, so I doubt she really has a completely sound mind, and due to growing up in a household, she hates. she views Sunny and Maris household as her second home and views Mari basically like a sister. -so yeah. She cares, a lot.
People forget sometimes that Basil did it because he cared for Sunny so much that he got tunnel vision and was only worried for him. He didn't want him to get in trouble (simplified), BUT he still cared for Mari, so it's not a problem of "but she cares for Sunny!!" It's a thing of Aubrey caring so much about Mari, basically her non-biological sister, that when she sees her in distress, ESPECIALLY while she herself is stressed, she wouldn't be thinking correctly. She would act irrationally just like Basil because she wouldn't know, she is too young and she hasn't grown up and might be too scared to pick up a phone and ask for help.
It's scary and traumatic for Basil in the OG game because he cared for Mari and that Sunny basically abandoned him for YEARS, and it could EASILY happen to Aubrey under the worst kinds of points, she COULD act irrationally when she is stressed and sees Mari basically having a mental breakdown. She COULD see SUNNY in pain, but in her brain, she thinks he's long gone. She COULD be too scared to pick up a phone, maybe due to stress or maybe because she doesn't want Mari to get in trouble (i.e., like Basil did).
For Aubrey, she was basically the closeest to Mari (and maybe also Sunny as well, but we only really see the past mostly through Sunnys eyes, so its unsure, and Sunny is very unreliable at times in Headspace), people sometimes forget this fact that Aubrey is close to Mari, so she could make more sense as a "hide a body simulator" culprit. Also, it's really fun exploring Aubrey in this way, lol :]
Basically:
Hero is unlikely because;
He is more mature (still young, yes, but 15 is way different than 12-13).
He would probably call for help and then help Mari calm down.
He seems like the kind of guy to have hope that he's alive instead of instantly thinking to hide a body
Why I think Aubrey would maybe make more sense;
Once again, very young and likely wouldn't know what to do as she isn't very developed mentally, and she wouldn't be used to able to handle this kind of stress.
Likely would jump to the conclusion that Sunny is dead and that she needs to help Mari be fine (she'd likely get a sort of tunnel vision like Basil)
She would act VERY irrationally. We have seen her do that even when she is about 16 or so years old.
She would try in any way she could to help Mari and could possibly think, "If she gets in trouble, she'll get more sad/it would be extremely bad."
She just wouldn't want anything worse to happen to the group, thus why she would hide the body so Mari wouldn't get in trouble and make things worse aswell
She could have a very hard time thinking about picking up a phone in these kinds of situations, note: because of age and/or mentality.
Overall, Hero can work if written well, and the characters can still bounce off each other properly, but usually Aubrey makes more sense.
(if this makes no sense I made this without taking my meds right after school and waiting 1 hour for a bus.)
#anyways im done yapping#Btw note: be careful about just roleswapping without having any care put into it#you gotta think about who and whatll happen#Im not a expert writer and writings for funny so do whatever tho#omori#omori mari#omori aubrey#omori hero#omari au#omari#au#alternate universe#certified yapper#😼

How do I write a character that's an expert in astrophysical instrumentation?
Oh.
I guess I have to become an expert in astrophysical instrumentation.
Update: a mutual reached out and was like "here let me explain cosmic microwave background to you" and guys, we have the best fandom. Just, the best. I am crying.

against my better judgement im watching a reupload of the lily dunmeshi vid and seeing how she starts off her vid ranting abt how much she hates her own fanbase again really reminded me how like. ngl i feel like watching her vids contributed a lot to my mental health issues as a teen lmao
#like rn i know shes full of shit but damn sometimes watching her back in the day was downright anxiety inducing#ive never seen a youtuber so angry that she has a fanbase. nice or not. one wrong move and she pitched a fit#and in most vids shes jsut ranting abt how her fans are stupid idiots or annoying or not giving her enough comments on her shitty comic#ofc i dont doubt it was frustrating to be recommended things she didnt want but she acts like shes forced at gunpoint to watch anime#shoutout to that time she literally went off abt how her fans are all shitty writers and thays why they need her bc shes a writing expert#like rn. i can look at that and scoff and move on bc shes full of shit. but as a teen thats harrowing yknow?#echoed voice#she also starts off by calling anime fans racist maga ppl presumably to deflect from how xenophobic shes abt to be#its so crazy seeing her say with her full chest that anime fans are perverted racists#and then go on to say all japanese animation is disgusting perverted garbage. unlike western media or herself of course

After reading the tags on your latest post I was wondering if it would be possible for you to make a brief overview of the iffy tropes/details your sensitivity reader helped you pick up on? Of course it wouldn't replace doing research ourselves, but I'd love to hear about it regardless!
Have not run it by them yet because it is in no fit state for human consumption at this point; the tropes are just from reading their blog + others on Tumblr + general Internet research including the excellent "blind people walk you through normal activities from their perspective" videos on YouTube. But off the top of my head:
Face touching. Where the blind person gropes someone's face to see? Sighted people made that up. I rewrote a chapter in Towards the Sun when I realized that one. Which makes sense, because why would a blind person be any more inclined to run their hands all up in your facial juices. Eww.
Negating blindness with magic and pretty much ignoring the blindness henceforth. Which is why Zuko isn't going to learn to see with firebending. There are very interesting discussions on how Toph herself fits and doesn't fit into this trope; finding them is left as an exercise for the reader.
Token blind character, AKA only having one blind person in the narrative who represents All Blind People. Going to have a few blind NPCs running around, with various levels of sight and accommodations, to thoroughly negate this one.
Being Depressed and/or Overly Inspirational about the blindness. AKA character devotes a large chunk of the story to bemoaning their blindness, with bonus inspirational "overcoming" at the end. Think about how it would feel if the majority of characters like you spent vast word counts hating the thing that makes them like you. And then solving it, in a way you can't, so they don't have to have the tragic fate of Being Like You. ...So Zuko is not getting cured, and he's also not wasting much time wallowing in an angst puddle.
Etc.
Basically, I want this to be a story that low vision folks can read and go "that was fun and less offensive than 70% of actual media representations", and sighted people can go "that was fun and hopefully I internalized some positive things that will make me less likely to grab a blind person's arm and forcibly Help Them Cross The Road, Try To Pet Their Dog (and Get Huffy When Asked to Please Not), or Call People Out On Not Being Blind Because They Don't Fit The Stereotypes".
#I am never going to claim to be an expert on this topic#but I'm pretty sure I can do it better than 70% of writers actually getting paid to write a blind character#which says less about my research skills and more about how media favors sighted-friendly interpretations of blindness#worst story I've come across is the blind actor who didn't get a role playing a blind person#because they came off as too competent at navigating the set#surely no sighted person would believe that this actor was actually blind!#...yep#avatar the last airbender#atla#blind Zuko#no specification necessary Toph#actual low vision folks please feel free to correct anything in this post#or my stories in general#it was reader feedback that got me to fix that Towards the Sun chapter#and it is a far better chapter for it

Do I have enough concrete evidence to claim Lindsay has prosopagnosia. All I’ve got right now is it’s the only reason that makes sense to me why Lindsay can’t remember Tyler’s Tyler in world tour. What if she literally can’t remember his face
#prosopagnosia is a disorder that makes it near impossible for someone to remember faces#I don’t remember island or action well enough to say she has it for sure#(obviously the real reason she doesn’t remember Tyler is because she’s a ditzy blonde joke and the show writers thought it would be funny)#but listen to me for a second!!#what if she knows heathers Heather cause her bossy voice is stuck in her head#what if she knows Beth’s Beth because she never takes off her side pony#what if she only remembers Tyler’s Tyler because she recognized the little T patch on his tracksuit#and I KNOW in island she likes him cause he’s cute or whatever but I don’t think that’s enough to disuade me from the concept#what if she found his hair cute?? his headband?? the way he walks and runs?? the hit on her when Duncan killed the roach in the first-#-episode??#and if she did find his face cute I don’t think that’s enough to just cure your prosopagnosia for a person#she thinks he’s cute looks away looks back and remembers all over again#I’m no expert on prosopagnosia I’ve just read a couple articles so I don’t know if that’s accurate but. do you get me do you see what I see#food for thought#total drama#total drama lindsay#td lindsay#Starry speaks

BFTC isn’t really a case of terrible characterization for Jason so much as it was a terrible case of victim blaming. Like yeah, some of the things Jason did were a bit extreme compared to his “better” appearances, but that’s nothing new and pretty much true of many stories that aren’t utrh or lost days. The bad parts are are also definitely exaggerated by fans.
The story isn’t centered on Jason. Of course every other character’s description of Jason would be knee-jerk dismissive and misunderstanding, since (again) the intention was to make Jason out to be the cartoony bad guy villain. But if you look past the layers of grime they added, the bare bones of his characterization are not entirely incorrect. It’s a biased story in which their intended criticisms of Jason’s morals often fell short, so to compensate they deliberately cranked up his motivations to be more extreme and unrealistic (but one which, nonetheless got Jason’s overall thoughts and goals relatively consistent with stories that portrayed him accurately).
Yes, him shooting Damian was out of character, but granted we’re all in agreement that it was a true case of “bad writing decision”, I don’t think it’s hard to look past. The only other bit people probably complain about (which felt iffy at worst) was him being “a bit enthusiastic” at times in trying to convince Dick to become another lethal Batman (you can just as easily say Jason wouldn’t have been personally invested enough to have acted in the way he did). I don’t care though because he was probably doing it for shits and giggles, and it was funny watching him push their buttons on his spare time while being excellent at his job. Same old ‘none of them deny that he’s effective, they just can’t get behind the killing’ conflict.
Looking past the fact that Jason still had a valid point, the “he’s the bad guy” plot falls apart for other obvious reasons, which happen in the 3rd issue. It’s kind of hard to focus on how much of a bitch Jason’s being when the other characters are written in an infinitely more problematic way (which ends up happening in most “hate Jason” stories). Not only did they heavily imply Jason is a victim of SA, but the way Dick/the batfamily treats Jason about this is … horrible. Arguing that this was a case of character assassination for Bruce and Dick would be more realistic than using this story to claim Jason is a Bad Person™.
Even though Bruce does have a bad track record with his perspective on victims of SA.
Hey. Maybe listen to the living person begging you to turn it off.
Geez. I wonder why he never felt safe enough to confide in Bruce or any of the rest of them. Implying that enduring what he did made him “broken beyond repair”, that he needs to be “fixed”, and saying verbatim, “you are my greatest failure”, not “I failed you greatly”. Then deciding on behalf of Jason that a bunch of people who weren’t involved in what happened to him should all know about this so they can decide what should be done. And everyone agrees with this garbage. Unbelievable.
Aka, any sort of healing he may have tried to accomplish was ruined by you lot. When exactly am I supposed to see that Jason was evil all along.
The story collapses in on itself in the third issue because where Dick is supposed to be at his prime within the arc, he just sort of rambles about how Jason was a shitty victim and then awkwardly shifts to talking about personal growth and coming to accept his own heroic destiny.
I do resent this, but not because “Jason sucks here”. Jason’s “bad portrayal” pales in comparison to the problematic mindsets given to the other characters (namely Dick) which were framed as good-natured intentions and “tough love”. As for people who describe this as “vilifying Jason to prop up Dick” … I don’t really know what to make of that.
#my post#the way they constantly go out of their way to praise Jason’s marksmanship and overall combat skills#and how everyone he killed died because he meant for them to#and Tim and Damian weren’t critically injured. he didn’t attack them with the intention to kill and it’s obvious#not only that it’s made clear they were both wearing heavy duty kevlar#and considering Jason’s an expert on this stuff himself he knew it wouldn’t really do long term damage.#he also knows how to attack people to do any specific kind of damage. if you claim that about Bruce smashing a dude’s skull#against a brick wall and not killing him then you can claim the same thing for Jason#but of course people will always dwell on inconsequential bullshit and try to make a grand point out of it if it’s about Jason#even as they point out that it was a dumb decision made by the writers#‘Jason was violent towards children' do you want me to never shut up again about who is consistently violent with his own children?#not only was this pretty tame compared to the things Bruce has done to Jason and the other batkids#in the majority of his appearances Jason has always been deeply sympathetic and caring towards kids#hence why people always point out how this is a shitty outlier
