I have to assume that nobody is reading between earth and sky because it has no fandom and there is absolutely no world in which people are reading these books and then just. Being Normal about them. These books have Making Me Feral juice in them and I cannot comprehend reading them and not Getting On Tumblr about it.

when you see those videos of the ocean waves being absolutely.... horrifyingly HUGE? and you think of the apostles and Jesus on that tiny boat and Jesus was sleeping and the apostles in absolute panic start waking Him desperately, "save us or else we die!" the acknowledgment that only Jesus can save them and the desperation that must have overtaken them knowing if He didn't, they absolutely would die under the relentless and merciless waves.

and Jesus rebuked them, not for waking Him, but for their lack of faith. "why are you so fearful, O ye of little faith?" imagine hearing Him say this as the tumultuous winds and waves roared in the background, the winds and the waves that could very well sink their tiny boat into the deep oceans and into their deaths. and yet He says: why are you scared? do you have no faith?

after rebuking them, He then rebukes the winds and the waves. and the merciless waves calm, the winds cease at the command of its Maker. imagine the sudden stillness. the boat that was once rocked violently by the waves is now still and quiet. the apostles marveled: "what sort of Man is this? even the winds and the waves obey Him!"

Matthew Henry notes so beautifully:

Well I succumbed and watched the Pilot and first ep of Due South last night.

Really struck me how central the theme of Fraser's estrangement from his father is in the Pilot. Fraser mentioning that the last time they spoke was Christmas, essentially saying that the only times they speak are presumably brief calls at holidays. Gerard responding with a platitude - "I guess the more you know someone, the less needs to be said" - but it becomes quite clear that Fraser feels he doesn't know Bob at all, and has to learn about him through his journals.

And yet they're cut from the same cloth: "I always thought your father was the last of a kind. I was wrong - you are." And this is tied to the mountie stereotype lol.

Bob and Fraser both repeat the lines, "You're going to shoot a mountie? They'll hunt you to the ends of the earth," and they're both wrong. No one wants to pursue Bob Fraser's death except Fraser, and no one's happy with Fraser for solving the case because it uncovered corruption. He gets exiled for it. Bob and Fraser are the only mounties who "always get their man," lol, and it's because of Bob's neglect in the course of duty that Fraser follows in his footsteps and becomes so similar to Bob. He idealizes his father and wanted to grow up to be just like him - we can see that admiration in the drawing of him he finds in Bob's things that he made when he was a child eg, or in the song Superman that plays while Fraser reads his journal in the diner. But he doesn't know him. And he pursues duty above all else because he has nothing else of his father.

And then you have Ray, who seems to exist as the opposite of Bob. If there's one thing Ray is, it's there. He is there for Fraser to hunt down suspects, to invite him to a loud family dinner, to save him from an explosion, he tracks him down to apologize for being dismissive, to invite him to dinner, and he flies to the Yukon when he can't reach him by phone. In the diner scene in particular he's directly positioned as a contrast to Bob's absence both in life and death. Fraser is alone trying to understand his father through his journals (looking for something "he missed" ie his dad), and Ray joins him, ending the thematically significant song montage, and eases his solitude. Fraser says he doesn't have family, and Ray shares his own with him.

And after the pilot case, there's nothing drawing them together except friendship. They're not a mismatched pair of cops assigned together who have to learn to get along, they work together unofficially because they can't help but spend every waking moment together.

Bob represents absence and Ray represents presence, distant admiration vs actually knowing someone.

And I'll probably have more to say on that as like, poles Fraser is caught between, if/as I rewatch more of the show. Ray's position is a little muddy especially because pre VS he buys into Fraser's image to an extent, as pointedly examined in Heaven and Earth. But again, more on that another time.

Bad Wolf / The Parting of the Ways

5/10. Bad Wolf is a cool name! For cool ppl! It’s the season’s mystery! It slays! But The Parting of the Ways? That could be used for like, half of the finales in this show. That’s a generic name. Not a fan. It even has one more “the” than it ought to. That’s a tryhard name. (Rose and The Doc don’t even part ways for another season! It’s a LIE!)

Army of Ghosts / Doomsday

6/10. Army of Ghosts! That’s freaky! It catches my attention! I’m interested, Mr. Davies, tell me more about that! Doomsday is also a generic name though. Like it could be used anywhere. It gets more points than S1 however because Doomsday is a very cool word and I like it a lot.

Utopia / The Sound of Drums / Last of the Time Lords

8/10. YES. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THESE TITLES. Utopia? That’s a word that can’t be applied to many other episodes! That’s a memorable word! That’s a fun word! The Sound of Drums? What the hell is so significant about drums?? In a FINALE episode?! There must be something SCANDALOUS about the drums, tell me everything! (And they did! But this isn’t about what happens in the episode this is just how hard the titles fuck.) Last of the Time Lords??? Holy shit! That means we’re delving into that aspect of him specifically, and you can’t duplicate that easily! But more importantly, that sounds cool! Cool names, absolutely W from whoever named RTD’s stuff.

The Stolen Earth / Journey’s End

5.5/10. Same boat as S1, tbh. The Stolen Earth? Excellent, no notes. Journey’s End sounds generic af though. But I gave it a half point lead because Journey’s End has the Vibes more than The Parting of the Ways, lol.

The Pandorica Opens / The Big Bang

8/10. Yea I see the vision Mr. Moffat, I see you. Love what you’ve done with the place btw. Like, neither title is generic! And both are super interesting! Look honestly I forget how to do commentary I’m just one sleep deprived fan who likes Vibes they just slap OK

The Wedding of River Song

9/10. Oh. Oh yes. Oh I am LOVING this. Nothing gets me going like seeing a wedding that is somehow the culmination of a high stakes season. Like, how is there a wedding there?! And. River Song is there? Do you promise? 🥺

The Name of the Doctor / The Day of the Doctor / The Time of the Doctor

6/10. OK I’m honestly not sure which ones are finales or not, but y’know what? The name matching is fun. I like that. That is good. But besides the first one, these are p generic episode names. Sorry.

Dark Water / Death in Heaven

8/10. Dark Water is a p good episode name. It’s not the most interesting, but I like it. BUT ***DEATH IN HEAVEN***?! Now THAT is a finale title! I have never SEEN such a title! THAT is an IMMACULATE title! SPLENDID!

Heaven Sent / Hell Bent

10/10. The matching names? The rhyming? The low-key religious theming? The ominous nature? EXCELLENT. No notes Mr. Moffat. Great vibes.

World Enough and Time / The Doctor Falls

9/10. I would give this striaght up 10/10 if I could figure out what “World Enough and Time” meant. The vibes are perfect but like. What does it mean 😭 And The Doctor Falls??? OH MY ATTENTION HAS BEEN GRABBED BY THE THROAT DO GO ON PLS—

The Battle of Ranskoor av Kolos

4/10. Kolos? What is this, Pokémon XY? Anyways, I feel like this is just dialogue that would be said in passing in a sci-fi novel that everyone forgets. Sorry 😞

Ascension of the Cybermen / The Timeless Children

7/10. Cybermen are OK. It’s a fine title, I have nothing against it. The Timeless Children??? The vibes are just SPLENDID here. Especially because it’s a Bad Wolf situation where it’s like “hey wait a fucking minute I’ve heard that somewhere else—” Good stuff! W for Chris.

Chapter Six: The Vanquishers

6.5/10. Adding chapter to the title does make it automatically cooler, so that’s a bonus half point right there. Otherwise, it’s neat. Like it’s good. The vibes are fine and I like them, but not THAT fine, y’know?

The Legend of Ruby Sunday / Empire of Death

7/10. Look, even if it’s not generic, anything with “death” in the title *feels* generic. The Legend of Ruby Sunday still saves this tho, because I am INTERESTED, girl. TELL ME EVERYTHING

I'm writing a fanfiction about Sun's death and everything Sun and the family go through. I have an idea for what I want to do and I will still do it

BUT...Now, I have two ideas, and I'm curious about which one you guys would like to see more?

Option 1 - Sun dies and is finally at peace, he'sexploring the world of the dead, and he's happy for the first time in a long time... he's happy. Yes, he misses his family, and he always will but now he'sat peace, but then Moon shows up and says he's come to rescue him from the world of the dead, but Sun says he doesn't want to come back. Him and Moon get into a bit of an argument, and Moon drags Sun back to the land of the living forcefully, and when Sun wakes up back in the world of the living, he goes and clocks Moon and his mad at him wishing he stayed dead. And now Sun and Moon have to act like everything is fine and normal while dealing with the repercussions. Sun wants to be dead, but he knows if he leaves or tells anyone he wanted to stay dead, he's afraid of how they'll react and Moon is struggling with the fact his brother wants to die and currently hates him and wants to talk about it with someone but he doesn't want to reveal that Sun didn't want to come back to everyone. <- I like this idea a lot!

Option 2. The same thing happens. Sun dies, enjoys is time in the world of the dead, but this time when Moon comes to rescue him and when him and Moon get into an argument, Moon relents and says he'll let Sun go let him rest. He'll just tell the others he couldn't find Sun or something. Sun agrees. The two brothers say their goodbyes, and Moon and Sun go their separate ways, and the rest of the fanfiction would be about how the family deals with Sun's death and how Sun is doing during his time in the world of the dead. <- I like this one too but also like the top one.

So, which one would you like to read?

I’m tired of empathy only being within our power to help the inhumanity going on in the world. Bringing awareness to genocide & slavery isn’t stopping it. It’s getting more eyes to witness the atrocities but it is infuriating that all we can do is be heartbroken about what’s happening.

The tears we cry have not formed into an ocean with divided waters that Moses walked through to free the Israelites from slavery. We need to do more than quote verses from the Bible..writing poetry is thought provoking but not saving lives. We need to do more than virtually care…images spread the message but we need impact with actual salvation. Not just to awaken global empathy. Who is suffering is already crying, they don’t need anymore of our tears, they need actual protection from their oppressors.

Prayer is power but is more powerful with solidarity in boycotting everyone and any organization funding wars against the innocent. You’re so lucky to be in the safety of your room..just scrolling. You can log out but the monstrosity you’re witnessing through a screen is a reality for millions. Stop individualizing your life…you’re not in separation..we share the same Earth..you’re being impacted too. No one should have the power to obliterate anyone’s existence because they don’t agree with their belief system. forced myself to finish this book even though by the last hundred pages or so all i was doing was picking apart the post-catholicism of it all. bc i feel like it's important to read shit you don't gel with . just because. even though the whole way through i was like they HAVE to prove it's not real. they HAVE to. so not the point of any of it but i was desperate for them to Find The Body etc. and of course instead they have mystical time travel experiences and all that because that is the kind of book the actual star is but i was desperate for them to realize that the star you see is the actual star. and then it wasn't
